Titus 1 טִיטוֹס פרק א׳

1. 1

   פּוֹלוֹסPaulעֶבֶדthe-servant-ofאֱלֹהִיםGodוּשְׁלִיחַand-apostle-ofיֵשׁוּעַJesusהַמָּשִׁיחַthe-Messiahלְפִיaccording-toאֱמוּנַתthe-faith-ofבְּחִירֵיof-the-elect-ofאֱלֹהִיםGodוְדַעַתand-the-knowledge-ofהָאֱמֶתthe-truthאֲשֶׁרwhichלַחֲסִידוּת׃after-godliness

   Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness;

   עֲלֵי־תִקְוַתin-hope-ofחַיֵּיthe-life-ofעוֹלָםeternalאֲשֶׁרwhichלִפְנֵיbeforeיְמוֹתthe-worldעוֹלָםbeganהִבְטִיחַpromisedהָאֵלGodאֲשֶׁרthatלֹאcannotיְכַזֵּב׃lie

   In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;

   וְגִלָּהbut-hath-manifestedאֶת־דְּבָרוֹhis-wordבְּמוֹעֲדוֹin-due-timesעַל־יְדֵיthroughהַקְּרִיאָהpreachingהַמֻּפְקָדָהwhich-is-committedבְּיָדִיby-my-handבְּמִצְוַתby-the-commandment-ofהָאֱלֹהִיםthe-Godמוֹשִׁיעֵנוּ׃our-Savior

   But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour;

   אֶל־טִיטוֹסto-Titusבְּנִיmy-sonהָאֲמִתִּיownבֶּאֱמוּנָהafter-the-commonאֶחָתfaithחֶסֶדgraceוְרַחֲמִיםand-compassionוְשָׁלוֹםand-peaceמֵאֵתfromהָאֱלֹהִיםthe-Godאָבִינוּour-fatherוַאֲדֹנֵינוּand-lord-ourיֵשׁוּעַJesusהַמָּשִׁיחַthe-Messiahמוֹשִׁיעֵנוּ׃our-Savior

   To Titus, mine own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour.

   בַּעֲבוּרbecause-ofזֹאתthisהִנַּחְתִּיךָI-left-youבִקְרֵיטִיin-Creteבַּעֲבוּרbecause-ofאֲשֶׁרwhichתַּשְׁלִיםyou-shouldest-set-in-orderאֶת־הֶחָסֵרthe-things-wantingוּתְמַנֶּהand-ordainזְקֵנִיםeldersבְּכׇל־עִירwith-all-city-ofוָעִירand-a cityכַּאֲשֶׁרasצִוִּיתִיךָ׃I-had-appointed-you

   For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee:

   אִם־יִמָּצֵאif-foundאִישׁa-manתָּםblamelessוּבַעַל־אִשָּׁהand-husband-of-a-wifeאֶחָתoneוְיֶשׁ־לוֹand-there-was-himבָּנִיםchildrenמַאֲמִינִיםbelievingוְאֵיןand-has-noעֲלֵיהֶםupon-themטַעֲנַתaccused-ofפְּרִיצוּתriotוְאֵינָםorסוֹרֲרִים׃unruly

   If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.

7. 7

   כִּי־הֶגְמוֹןfor-a-bishopהָעֵדָהof-the-churchצָרִיךְmustלִהְיוֹתbeאִישׁa-manתָּםblamelessכְּסֹכֵןas-stewardלֵאלֹהִיםGodלֹאnotעֹמֵדnotעַל־דַּעְתּוֹselfwilledוְלֹאnotרַגְזָןsoon-angryוְלֹאand-notאֹהֵבlovesיַיִןwineוְלֹא־בַעַלand-not-is a master ofאֶגְרֹףa fistוְלֹאand-notבֹצֵעַone greedy for unjust gainבֶּצַעfilthy-lucre;רָע׃evil

   For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;

8. 8

   כִּיbecauseאִם־יְהִיif-let-this-beמַכְנִיסa-lover-of-hospitalityאֹרְחִיםstrangersוְאֹהֵבa-lover-ofטוֹבgood-menוְצָנוּעַsoberוְצַדִּיקand-righteousוְקָדוֹשׁand-holyוְכֹבֵשׁtemperateאֶת־יִצְרוֹ׃himself

   But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;

   וּמַחֲזִיקholding-fastבַּדָּבָרthe-wordהַנֶּאֱמָןfaithfulכְּפִיaccording-toהַהוֹרָאָהthe-instructionלְמַעַןin-order-thatיִהְיֶה־בּוֹhe-may-beכֹחַableלְהַזְהִירto-exhortבַּלֶּקַחby-doctrineהַבָּרִיאsoundוּלְהוֹכִיחַand-to-convinceאֶת־הַמְּרִיבִים׃the-gainsayers

   Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.

10. 10

    כִּי־יֵשׁthat-there-isהַרְבֵּהmuchמֹרְדִיםunrulyדֹּבְרֵיvainהֶבֶלtalkersוּמַתְעֵיand-deceiversנָפֶשׁspeciallyוְרֻבָּםtheyמִן־הַנִּמּוֹלִים׃from-the-circumcised(pl)

    For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision:

11. 11

    אֲשֶׁרwhichסָכוֹרwhoseיִסָּכֵרmust-be-stoppedפִּיהֶםmouthsהַהֹפְכִיםwho-subvertבָּתִּיםhousesכֻּלָּםwholeבְּהוֹרוֹתָםby-their-teachingדְּבָרִיםthingsאֲשֶׁרwhichלֹא־כֵןthey-ought-notעֵקֶבforבָּצַע׃filthy-lucres-sake

    Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake.

12. 12

    וּכְבָרand-alreadyאָמַרsaidאֶחָדoneמֵהֶםof-themנְבִיאָםa-prophet-of-their-ownמִקִּרְבָּםsaidבְּנֵיthe-sons-ofקְרֵיטִיCreteמְשַׁקְּרִיםare-alway-liarsמֵעוֹלָםeverוְחַיּוֹתevilרָעוֹתbeastsהֵמָּהtheyוְגַםand-alsoכְּרֵשִׂיםslowעֲצֵלִים׃bellies

    One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, The Cretians are alway liars, evil beasts, slow bellies.

13. 13

    וְהָעֵדוּתthis-witnessהַזֹּאתthisאֱמֶתis-trueוּבַעֲבוּר־כֵּןwhereforeתּוֹכִיחֵםrebuke-themתּוֹכֵחָהsharplyקָשָׁהhardלְמַעַןin-order-thatיִהְיוּthey-may-beבְרִיאִיםsoundבָּאֱמוּנָה׃in-the-faith

    This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;

14. 14

    וְלֹאand-notיָשִׂימוּgivingלֵבheedאֶל־הַגָּדוֹתto-fablesהַיְּהוּדִיםJewishוְאֶל־מִצְוֹתand-commandments-ofהָאֲנָשִׁיםthe-menהַסָּרִיםthat-turnמִן־הָאֱמֶת׃from-the-truth

    Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.

15. 15

    הַכֹּלall-thingsטָהוֹרpureלַטְּהוֹרִיםto-the-pureאֲבָלbutלַנִּטְמְאִיםto-the-defiledוּלְחַסְרֵיand-unbelievingאֱמוּנָהfaithאֵין־דָּבָרis-nothingטָהוֹרpureכִּיbecauseנִטְמְאָהis-defiledדַּעְתָּםtheir-mindוְרוּחָם׃and-their-conscience

    Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.

16. 16

    אֹמְרִיםthey-professהֵמָּהthat-theyיָדַעְנוּknowאֶת־הָאֱלֹהִיםGodוּבְמַעֲשֵׂיהֶםbut-in-worksכּוֹפְרִיםthey-denyבּוֹin-himכִּיbecauseמְתֹעָבִיםabominableוּמַמְרִיםand-disobedientהֵםtheyוְלֹא־יִצְלְחוּand-reprobateלְכׇל־מַעֲשֶׂהto-all-a-workטוֹב׃good

    They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
