Privacy
Sefer Mormon collects nothing about you as you read. There are no accounts, no sign-in, no analytics and no advertising. This applies to the website at sefermormon.com and to the iOS and Android apps, which are the same site in an app shell. There are two exceptions, both described below: a message you choose to send from the Contact page, and the website's In Print page, which uses Meta's pixel to measure our Facebook ads. The apps have neither.
What is stored, and where
The reader remembers a few things so that it is usable: which volume and chapter you were last reading, your reading theme, your text size, and any words you have highlighted. All of it is written to your own device's browser storage. It is never transmitted anywhere, it is not visible to anyone else, and no copy of it exists outside your device. Clearing the site's data in your browser, or deleting the app, removes it permanently.
What is not collected
- No name, email address, or any other personal detail, unless you write a message on the Contact page
- No account, because there is nothing to sign in to
- No location
- No contacts, photos, files, or microphone access
- No analytics, usage statistics, or behavioural profiling
- No advertising identifiers, and no advertising
- No cookies used for tracking, except Meta's on the website's In Print page (below)
Messages you send
The Contact page on the website lets you write to Chris. When you press Send, your name, your email address and your message are passed to Web3Forms, a form service that delivers them to Chris by email, along with the page of this site you came from, so a correction arrives with its chapter named. They are used only to read and answer your message. Nothing is sent unless you press Send. The apps do not have this form; their Write to Chris opens your own email app.
The In Print page on the website
The In Print page at sefermormon.com, where the printed editions are sold, uses the Meta Pixel, a script from Meta (Facebook), to measure how many people our Facebook ads bring to that page and how many go on to a store. When you open the page on the website, your browser sends Meta the page's address and the fact that you visited, and, if you press a Buy button, which edition and which store. Meta may connect this to a Facebook or Instagram account you are signed in to, under Meta's own privacy policy, and it sets a cookie for that purpose.
It runs on that one page of the website only: never in the reader, and never in the iOS or Android apps. If your device is set to a European time zone, the page asks before it loads, and your answer stays on your device. Your browser's tracking protection or an ad blocker will also stop it, and nothing on the site depends on it.
Reading aloud
The read-aloud feature uses the speech voice built into your own device, through your browser. The text is spoken locally. On some platforms the operating system's speech service may process the text to produce the audio; that is the device's own service and is governed by the privacy policy of your device's maker, not by this site.
Hosting
The site is served as static files by GitHub Pages. Like any web host, GitHub's servers receive the ordinary requests your browser makes, including your IP address, as a technical necessity of delivering the page. Sefer Mormon does not receive, retain, or have access to those logs.
Children
The apps collect no data from anyone, of any age. It is a scripture reader, and nothing in it is directed at children specifically.
Changes
If this changes, the change will be described on this page before it takes effect. The last change, on October 30, 2026, added the Meta Pixel to the website's In Print page.
