   הֲלֹאha/LOdo notיְדַעְתֶּםye/da/TEMyou knowאֶחָיe/CHAYmy brothersכִּיkiforלְיֹדְעֵיle/yod/Eto those who knowהַתּוֹרָהhat/to/RAthe lawאֲנִיa/NIIמְדַבֵּרme/dab/BERspeakכִּיkithatהַתּוֹרָהhat/to/RAthe lawתִּשְׁלַטtish/LATrulesעַל־הָאָדָםal-ha/a/DAMover the manכׇּל־יְמֵיkol-ye/MEall the days ofחַיָּיו׃chay/YAYVhis life

   Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth?

2. 2

   כִּיkiforאֵשֶׁתE/shetthe wife ofאִישׁisha manעַל־פִּיal-pibyהַתּוֹרָהhat/to/RAthe lawאֲסוּרָהa/su/RAis boundלְבַעְלָהּle/va/LAto her husbandבְּחַיָּיוbe/chay/YAYVin his lifeוּבְמוֹתu/ve/MOTand in the death ofבַּעְלָהּba/LAher husbandפְּטוּרָהpe/tu/RAreleasedהִיאhishe isמִתּוֹרַתmit/to/RATfrom the law ofבַּעְלָהּ׃ba/LAher husband

   For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.

   וְעַל־כֵּןve/AL-kenand thereforeאִם־תִּהְיֶהim-tih/YEif she becomesלְאִישׁle/ISHto a manאַחֵרa/CHERanotherבְּחַיֵּיbe/chay/YEin the life ofבַעְלָהּva/LAher husbandנֹאֶפֶתno/E/fetan adulteressיִקָּרֵאyik/ka/REshall be calledוּבְמוֹתu/ve/MOTand in the death ofבַּעְלָהּba/LAher husbandחׇפְשִׁיתchof/SHITfreeהִיאhishe isמִן־הַתּוֹרָהmin-hat/to/RAfrom the lawוְאֵינֶנָּהve/e/NEN/naand she is notנֹאֶפֶתno/E/fetan adulteressבִּהְיוֹתָהּbih/yo/TAwhen she becomesלְאִישׁle/ISHto a manאַחֵר׃a/CHERanother

   So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.

   Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

   כִּיkiforבְּעֵתbe/ETat the timeהֱיוֹתֵנוּhe/yo/TE/nuwe wereבַבָּשָׂרvab/ba/SARin the fleshתְּשׁוּקוֹתte/shu/KOTthe desires ofהַחֲטָאִיםha/cha/ta/IMsinsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatעַל־יְדֵיal-ye/DEbyהַתּוֹרָהhat/to/RAthe lawהָיוּha/YUwereפֹעֲלוֹתfo/a/LOTworkingבְּאֵבָרֵינוּbe/e/va/re/NUin our membersלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTto bearפְּרִיpe/RIfruitלַמָּוֶת׃lam/MA/vetfor death

   For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.

   אֲבָלa/VALbutעַתָּהat/TAnowפְּטוּרִיםpe/tu/RIMreleasedאֲנַחְנוּa/NACH/nuare weמִן־הַתּוֹרָהmin-hat/to/RAfrom the lawכִּיkiforמֵתmetthat being deadאֲשֶׁרa/SHERin whichנֶאֱחַזְנוּne/e/chaz/NUwe were heldבּוֹboin itלְמַעַןle/MA/anso thatנַעֲבֹדna/a/VODwe should serveבְּרוּחַbe/RU/achin spiritחֲדָשָׁהcha/da/SHAnewוְלֹאve/LOand notבִּכְתָבbikh/TAVin the writing ofיָשָׁן׃ya/SHANold

   But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

   מַה־נֹּאמַרma-NO/marwhat shall we sayאֵפוֹאe/FOthenהֲחֵטְאha/CHETis sinהַתּוֹרָהhat/to/RAthe lawחָלִילָהcha/LI/lafar be itאַךְakhbutלֹאlonotיָדַעְתִּיya/DA/tiwould I have knownאֶת־הַחֵטְאet-ha/CHETsinבִּלְתִּיbil/TIexceptעַל־יְדֵיal-ye/DEbyהַתּוֹרָהhat/to/RAthe lawכִּיkiforלֹא־הָיִיתִיlo-ha/YI/tiI would not have beenיוֹדֵעַyo/DE/aknowingאֶת־הַתַּאֲוָהet-hat/ta/a/VAlustלוּלֵיlu/LEunlessאָמְרָהa/me/RAsaidהַתּוֹרָהhat/to/RAthe lawלֹאlonotתַחְמֹד׃tach/MODyou shall covet

   What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.

   וְהַחֵטְאve/ha/CHETand sinמָצָאma/TSAfoundלוֹlofor itselfסִבָּהsib/BAan occasionבַמִּצְוָהvam/mits/VAby the commandmentוַיִּפְעַלvay/yif/ALand workedבְּקִרְבִּיbe/kir/BIwithin meכׇּל־תַּאֲוָהkol-ta/a/VAall desireכִּיkiforמִבַּלְעֲדֵיmib/bal/a/DEapart fromהַתּוֹרָהhat/to/RAthe lawהַחֵטְאha/CHETsinמֵת׃metdead

   But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead.

   וַאֲנִיva/a/NIand Iהָיִיתִיha/YI/tiwasחַיchayaliveמִלְּפָנִיםmil/le/fa/NIMformerlyבְּלֹאbe/LOwithoutתוֹרָהto/RAlawוּבְבוֹאu/ve/VOand when comesהַמִּצְוָהham/mits/VAthe commandmentוַיְחִיvay/CHIcame to lifeהַחֵטְאha/CHETsinוַאֲנִיva/a/NIand Iמַתִּי׃mat/TIdied

   For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.

    וָאֶמְצָאva/em/TSAand I foundכִּיkithatהַמִּצְוָהham/mits/VAthe commandmentאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichנִתְּנָהnit/te/NAwas givenלַחַיִּיםla/chay/YIMfor lifeהָיְתָהha/ye/TAwasלִּיlito meלַמָּוֶת׃lam/MA/vetfor death

    And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death.

11. 11

    כִּי־מָצָאki-MA/tsafor foundהַחֵטְאha/CHETsinסִבָּהsib/BAan occasionבַמִּצְוָהvam/mits/VAby the commandmentוַיַּשִּׁיאֵנִיvay/yash/shi/e/NIdeceived meוַיְמִיתֵנִיvay/mi/te/NIand killed meעַל־יָדָהּ׃al-ya/DAby it

    For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me.

12. 12

    וּבְכֵןu/ve/KHENand soהַתּוֹרָהhat/to/RAthe lawהִיאhiisקְדוֹשָׁהke/do/SHAholyוְהַמִּצְוָהve/ham/mits/VAand the commandmentקְדוֹשָׁהke/do/SHAholyוְצַדִּיקָהve/tsad/di/KAand justוְטוֹבָה׃ve/to/VAand good

    Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.

13. 13

    הֲכִיha/KHIdid thenהַטּוֹבָהhat/to/VAthe goodהָיְתָה־לִּיha/ye/TA-libecome to meלַמָּוֶתlam/MA/vetdeathחָלִילָהcha/LI/lafar be itאַךְakhbutהַחֵטְאha/CHETsinלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatיֵרָאֶהye/ra/Eit might appearהַחֵטְאha/CHETsinבַּהֲבִיאוֹba/ha/vi/Oin its bringingלִיlito meהַמָּוֶתham/MA/vetdeathמִן־הַטּוֹבָהmin-hat/to/VAthrough the goodלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatיִהְיֶהyih/YEmight becomeהַחֵטְאha/CHETsinחַטָּאchat/TAsinfulמְאֹדme/ODexceedinglyעַל־יְדֵיal-ye/DEbyהַמִּצְוָה׃ham/mits/VAthe commandment

    Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful.

14. 14

    כִּיkiforיֹדְעִיםyod/IMknowאֲנַחְנוּa/NACH/nuweכִּיkithatהַתּוֹרָהhat/to/RAthe lawרוּחַRU/achspiritualהִיאhiisוַאֲנִיva/a/NIand Iבָשָׂרva/SARam fleshוְנִמְכָּרve/nim/KARand soldבְּיַד־הַחֵטְא׃be/YAD-ha/CHETinto the hand of sin

    For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.

15. 15

    כִּיkiforאֶת־אֲשֶׁרet-a/SHERwhatאֲנִיa/NIIפֹעֵלfo/ELdoלֹאlonotיָדַעְתִּיya/DA/tiI knowכִּיkiforאֵינֶנִּיe/NEN/niI do notעֹשֶׂהo/SEdoאֶת־אֲשֶׁר־אֲנִיet-a/SHER-a/NIwhat Iרֹצֶהro/TSEwantבּוֹboin itכִּיkibutאִם־אֲשֶׁרim-a/SHERrather whatשָׂנֵאתִיsa/NE/tiI hateאֹתוֹo/TOitאֲנִיa/NIIעֹשֶׂה׃o/SEdo

    For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.

16. 16

    וּבַעֲשׂוֹתִיu/va/a/so/TIand when I doאֶת־אֲשֶׁרet-a/SHERthat whichלֹא־רָצִיתִיlo-ra/tsi/TII did not wantהִנְנִיhin/NIbehold Iמוֹדֶהmo/DEacknowledgeכִּיkithatהַתּוֹרָהhat/to/RAthe lawטוֹבָהto/VAis goodהִיא׃hiit

    If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good.

17. 17

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowלֹא־אֲנִיlo-a/NInot Iעוֹדodanymoreהַפֹּעֵלhap/po/ELthe one who doesאֹתוֹo/TOitכִּיkibutאִם־הַחֵטְאim-ha/CHETrather the sinהַשֹּׁכֵןhash/sho/KHENthat dwellsבְּקִרְבִּי׃be/kir/BIwithin me

    Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

18. 18

    כִּיkiforיָדַעְתִּיya/DA/tiI knowאֲשֶׁר־בִּיa/SHER-bithat in meבִּבְשָׂרִיbiv/sa/RIin my fleshלֹאlonotיִשְׁכֹּןyish/KONdoes dwellטוֹבtovgoodכִּיkiforלִרְצוֹתlir/TSOTto desireיֶשׁ־לִיyesh-liI haveאַךְakhbutלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTto doהַטּוֹבhat/TOVthe goodלֹאlonotאֶמְצָא׃em/TSAdo I find

    For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.

19. 19

    כִּיkiforאֵינֶנִּיe/NEN/niI do notעֹשֶׂהo/SEdoהַטּוֹבhat/TOVthe goodאֲשֶׁר־אֲנִיa/SHER-a/NIthat Iרֹצֶהro/TSEwantכִּיkibutאִם־הָרַעim-ha/RArather the evilאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichאֵינֶנִּיe/NEN/niI do notרֹצֶהro/TSEwantאוֹתוֹo/TOitאֲנִיa/NIIעֹשֶׂה׃o/SEdo

    For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.

20. 20

    וְאִםve/IMand ifאֶת־אֲשֶׁרet-a/SHERwhatלֹא־רָצִיתִיlo-ra/tsi/TII did not wantאֲנִיa/NIIעֹשֶׂהo/SEdoלֹא־עוֹדlo-odno longerאֲנִיa/NIIהַפֹּעֵלhap/po/ELthe one who doesכִּיkibutאִם־הַחֵטְאim-ha/CHETrather the sinהַשֹּׁכֵןhash/sho/KHENthat dwellsבְּקִרְבִּי׃be/kir/BIwithin me

    Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

21. 21

    מֹצֵא־אֲנִיmo/TSE-a/NII findאֵפוֹאe/FOthenחֹקchoka lawכִּיkithatבִּרְצוֹתִיbir/tso/TIwhen I desireלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTdoהַטּוֹבhat/TOVgoodנִמְצָאnim/TSAis foundעִמִּיim/MIwith meהָרָע׃ha/RAevil

    I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.

22. 22

    כִּיkiforלְפִיle/FIaccording toהָאָדָםha/a/DAMthe manהַפְּנִימִיhap/pe/ni/MIinnerחָפַצְתִּיcha/FATS/tiI delightבְּתוֹרַתbe/to/RATin the law ofאֱלֹהִים׃e/lo/HIMGod

    For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:

23. 23

    אֲבָלa/VALbutרֹאֶה־אֲנִיro/E-a/NII seeבְאֵבָרַיve/e/va/RAYin my membersחֹקchoka statuteאַחֵרa/CHERanotherהַלֹּחֵםhal/lo/CHEMwarringבְּחׇק־שִׂכְלִיbe/CHOK-sikh/LIagainst the law of my mindוְיוֹלִיכֵנִיve/yo/li/khe/NIand leading meשְׁבִיshe/VIcaptiveלְתוֹרַתle/to/RATto the law ofהַחֵטְאha/CHETsinאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthat isבְּאֵבָרָי׃be/e/va/RAYin my members

    But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

24. 24

    אוֹי־לִיoy-liwoe to meהָאָדָםha/a/DAMthe manהֶעָנִיhe/a/NIthe wretchedמִיmiwhoיַצִּילֵנִיyats/tsi/LE/niwill deliver meמִגּוּףmig/GUFfrom the body ofהַמָּוֶתham/MA/vetdeathהַזֶּה׃haz/ZEthis

    O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?

25. 25

    אוֹדֶהo/DEI thankאֶת־הָאֱלֹהִיםet-ha/e/lo/HIMGodבְּיֵשׁוּעַbe/Ye/SHU/athrough Jesusהַמָּשִׁיחַham/Ma/SHI/achthe Messiahאֲדֹנֵינוּa/do/NE/nuour Lordלָכֵןla/KHENthereforeבְּשִׂכְלִיbe/sikh/LIwith my mindעֹבֵדo/VEDserveאָנֹכִיa/no/KHIIאֶת־תּוֹרַתet-to/RATthe law ofהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodוּבִבְשָׂרִיu/viv/sa/RIand with my fleshאֶת־תּוֹרַתet-to/RATthe law ofהַחֵטְא׃ha/CHETsin

    I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.
