   וּבְכֵןthenאֹמֵרsayאֲנִיIהֲזָנַחhath-cast-awayהָאֱלֹהִיםGodאֶת־עַמּוֹhis-peopleחָלִילָהGod-forbidכִּיforגַם־אָנֹכִיI-alsoיִשְׂרְאֵלִיam-an-Israeliteמִזֶּרַעof-the-seed-ofאַבְרָהָםAbrahamלְמַטֵּהof-the-tribe-ofבִנְיָמִין׃Benjamin

   I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.

   לֹא־זָנַחhath-not-cast-awayהָאֱלֹהִיםGodאֶת־עַמּוֹhis-peopleאֲשֶׁרwhichיְדָעוֹhe-foreknewמִקֶּדֶםbeforehandהֲלֹאknow-youתֵדְעוּnotאֶת־אֲשֶׁרwhatהַכָּתוּבthe-scriptureאֹמֵרsaithבְּאֵלִיָּסof-Eliasוְהוּאhow-heצֹעֵקmaketh-intercessionאֶל־הָאֱלֹהִיםto-Godעַל־יִשְׂרָאֵלagainst-Israelלֵאמֹר׃saying

   God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel, saying,

   הָאָדוֹןLordאֶת־נְבִיאֶיךָyour-prophetsהָרְגוּthey-have-killedוְאֶת־מִזְבְּחֹתֶיךָand-yours-altarsהָרָסוּthey-have-digged-downוָאִוָּתֵרand-am-leftאֲנִיIלְבַדִּיaloneוַיְבַקְשׁוּand-they-seekאֶת־נַפְשִׁי׃my-life

   Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life.

   וּמֶה־עָנָהand-what-answeredאֹתוֹhimדְּבַרthe-word-ofאֱלֹהִיםGodהִשְׁאַרְתִּיI-have-reservedלִיto-myselfשִׁבְעַתsevenאֲלָפִיםthousandאִישׁmenאֲשֶׁרwhoלֹא־כָרְעוּhave-not-bowed-the-kneeלַבָּעַל׃to-Baal

   But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal.

   וְכֵןeven-soגַּם־בְּיָמֵינוּat-this-present-time-alsoנִשְׁאֲרָהthere-isשְׁאֵרִיתa-remnantכִּבְחִירַתaccording-to-the-election-ofהֶחָסֶד׃grace

   Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.

   וְאִםand-ifעַל־יְדֵיbyהַחֶסֶדgraceלֹאnotהָיְתָהit-isמִתּוֹךְofהַמַּעֲשִׂיםworksכִּיforאִםotherwiseכֵּןsoהַחֶסֶדgraceאֵינֶנּוּ־עוֹדis-no-moreחָסֶדgraceוְאִם־הָיְתָהbut-if-it-beמִתּוֹךְofהַמַּעֲשִׂיםworksאֵינֶנּוּ־עוֹדthen-is-it-no-moreחֶסֶדgraceכִּיforאִםotherwiseכֵּןsoהַמַּעֲשֶׂהworkיֶחְדַּלceasethלִהְיוֹתto-beמַעֲשֶׂה׃work

   And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.

   וְעַתָּהwhatמַה־הוּאthenאֵת־אֲשֶׁר־בִּקֵּשׁthat-which-seekethיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelלֹאnotהִשִׂיגhath-obtainedרַקbutהַנִּבְחָרִיםthe-electionהֵםtheyהִשִׂיגוּhath-obtainedוְהָאֲחֵרִיםand-the-restהִשְׁמִינוּwere-blindedלְבָבָם׃in-heart

   What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded

   כַּכָּתוּבas-it-is-writtenנָתַןhath-givenלָהֶםthemהָאֱלֹהִיםGodרוּחַthe-spirit-ofתַּרְדֵּמָהslumberעֵינַיִםeyesלֹאnotלִרְאוֹתthat-they-should-seeוְאׇזְנַיִםand-earsלֹאnotלִשְׁמֹעַthat-they-should-hearעַד־הַיּוֹםunto...dayהַזֶּה׃this

   (According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear;) unto this day.

   וְדָוִדand-Davidאֹמֵרsaithיְהִיlet-beשֻׁלְחָנָםtheir-tableלְפַחa-snareוּלְרֶשֶׁתand-a-trapוּלְמוֹקֵשׁand-a-stumblingblockוּלְשִׁלּוּמִיםand-a-recompenceלָהֶם׃unto-them

   And David saith, Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, and a stumblingblock, and a recompence unto them:

10. 10

    תֶּחְשַׁכְנָהlet-be-darkenedעֵינֵיהֶםtheir-eyesמֵרְאוֹתthat-they-may-not-seeוּמׇתְנֵיהֶםand-their-backתָּמִידalwayהַמְעַד׃bow-down

    Let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see, and bow down their back alway.

11. 11

    וְעַתָּהthenאֲנִיIאֹמֵרsayהֲנִכְשְׁלוּhave-they-stumbledלְמַעַןthatיִפֹּלוּthey-should-fallחָלִילָהGod-forbidכִּיbut-ratherבְפִשְׁעָםthrough-their-fallבָּאָהis-comeהַיְשׁוּעָהsalvationלַגּוֹיִםunto-the-Gentilesלְמַעַןforהַקְנִיאָם׃to-provoke-them-to-jealousy

    I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy.

    וְאִם־פִּשְׁעָםnow-if-their-fallהָיָהbeלְעשֶׁרthe-riches-ofהָעוֹלָםthe-worldוְנִזְקָםand-their-lossלְעשֶׁרthe-riches-ofהַגּוֹיִםthe-Gentilesמְלֹאָםtheir-fulnessעַל־אַחַתhowכַּמָּהmuchוְכַמָּה׃more

    Now if the fall of them be the riches of the world, and the diminishing of them the riches of the Gentiles; how much more their fulness?

13. 13

    וַאֲלֵיכֶםfor-to-youהַגּוֹיִםGentilesאֲנִיIמְדַבֵּרspeakוּכְפִיinasmuch-asהֱיוֹתִיI-amשָׁלִיחַthe-apostleלַגּוֹיִםof-the-Gentilesאֶת־שֵׁרוּתִיmine-officeאֲכַבֵּד׃I-magnify

    For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office:

14. 14

    אוּלַיif-by-any-meansאוּכַלI-mayלְהַקְנִיאprovoke-to-emulationאֶת־בְּנֵי־עַמִּיthem-which-are-my-fleshוּלְהוֹשִׁיעַand-might-saveמִקְצָתָם׃some-of-them

    If by any means I may provoke to emulation them which are my flesh, and might save some of them.

15. 15

    כִּיforאִם־דְּחִיָּתָםif-the-casting-away-of-themרִצּוּיbe-the-reconciling-ofלָעוֹלָםthe-worldמָה־אֵפוֹאwhat-thenתִּהְיֶהshall-beאֲסֵפָתָםthe-receiving-of-themהֲלֹאbutחַיִּיםlifeמִן־הַמֵּתִים׃from-the-dead

    For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead?

16. 16

    וְאִם־הַתְּרוּמָהfor-if-the-firstfruitקֹדֶשׁbe-holyהָעִסָּהthe-lumpקֹדֶשׁis-holyכָּמוֹהָalsoוְאִם־הַשֹּׁרֶשׁand-if-the-rootקֹדֶשׁbe-holyהָעֲנָפִיםthe-branchesקֹדֶשׁare-holyכָּמוֹהוּ׃also

    For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches.

17. 17

    וְכִיand-ifנִקְּפוּbe-broken-offמִקְצָתsome-ofהָעֲנָפִיםthe-branchesוְאַתָּהand-youזֵיתan-olive-tree-ofהַיַּעַרthe-wildהֻרְכַּבְתָּwert-graffed-inתַחְתֵּיהֶםamong-themוְנִתְחַבַּרְתָּand-partakestלְשֹׁרֶשׁof-the-root-ofהַזַּיִתthe-olive-treeוּלְדִשְׁנוֹ׃and-its-fatness

    And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert grafted in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree;

18. 18

    אַל־תִּתְפָּאֵרboast-notעַל־הָעֲנָפִיםagainst-the-branchesוְאִם־תִּתְפָּאֵרbut-if-you-boastדַּעknowשָׁאַתָּהthat-youלֹאnotתִשָׂאbearestאֶת־הַשֹּׁרֶשׁthe-rootכִּיbutאִםratherהַשֹּׁרֶשׁthe-rootנֹשֵׂאbearethאוֹתְךָ׃you

    Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee.

19. 19

    וְכִיthenתֹאמַרyou-will-sayהֲלֹאsurelyנִקְּפוּwere-broken-offהָעֲנָפִיםthe-branchesלְמַעַןthatאֻרְכַּבmight-be-graffed-inאָנִי׃I

    Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be grafted in.

20. 20

    כֵּןwellהַדָּבָרso-it-isהֵמָּהtheyנִקְּפוּwere-broken-offעַל־אֲשֶׁרbecauseלֹאnotהֶאֱמִינוּthey-believedוְאַתָּהand-youהִנְּךָyouקַיָּםstandestעַל־יְדֵיbyהָאֱמוּנָהfaithאַל־תִּתְגָּאֶהbe-not-highmindedכִּיbutאִם־יְרָא׃fear

    Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:

21. 21

    כִּיforהִנֵּהifהָאֱלֹהִיםGodלֹא־חָסspared-notעַל־הָעֲנָפִיםthe-branchesהַנּוֹלָדִיםthat-grew-naturallyמִן־הָעֵץon-the-treeוְאוּלַיtake-heed-lestלֹא־יָחוּסhe-spare-notגַּם־עָלֶיךָ׃also-you

    For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.

22. 22

    לָכֵןthereforeרְאֵה־נָאbeholdטוֹבַתthe-goodness-ofאֱלֹהִיםGodוְזַעְמוֹand-his-severityזַעְמוֹseverityעַל־הַנֹּפְלִיםon-them-which-fellוְעָלֶיךָbut-toward-youטוֹבָתוֹgoodnessאִם־תַּעֲמֹדif-you-continueבְּטוֹבָתוֹin-his-goodnessוְאִם־אַיִןotherwiseגַּם־אַתָּהyou-alsoתִכָּרֵת׃shalt-be-cut-off

    Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.

23. 23

    וְגַם־הֵמָּהand-they-alsoאִם־לֹאif-notיַעַמְדוּthey-abideבְּמִרְיָםin-unbeliefיֻרְכָּבוּshall-be-graffed-inכִּי־יָכֹלfor-is-ableהָאֱלֹהִיםGodלָשׁוּבagainלְהַרְכִּיבָם׃to-graff-them-in

    And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be grafted in: for God is able to graft them in again.

24. 24

    הֵןforאַתָּהyouנִגְזַרְתָּwert-cutמֵעֵץout-of-the-treeאֲשֶׁרwhichבְּטִבְעוֹby-natureזֵיתolive-treeיָעַרwildוְהֻרְכַּבְתָּand-wert-graffedשֶׁלּאcontrary-toכְטֶבַעnatureבְּזַיִתinto-an-olive-treeטוֹבgoodעַל־אַחַתhowכַּמָּהmuchוְכַמָּהmoreשֶׁיֻּרְכְּבוּshall-be-graffedאֵלֶּהtheseכְטִבְעָםwhich-are-naturalבַּזַּיִתinto-the-olive-treeאֲשֶׁרwhichיָצְאוּthey-cameמִמֶּנּוּ׃of-it

    For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert grafted contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree?

25. 25

    כִּיforלֹא־אֲכַחֵדI-would-not-hideמִכֶּםfrom-youאַחַיbrethrenאֶת־הַסּוֹדthe-mysteryהַזֶּהthisפֶּן־תִּהְיוּlest-you-should-beחֲכָמִיםwiseבְּעֵינֵיכֶםin-your-own-conceitsשֶׁיִּשְׂרָאֵלthat-Israelבָּאis-happenedלִידֵיuntoטִמְטוּםblindness-ofהַלֵּבheartלְמִקְצָתוֹin-partעַדuntilכִּי־יִכָּנֵסbe-come-inמְלֹאthe-fulness-ofהַגּוֹיִם׃the-Gentiles

    For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.

26. 26

    וְכֵןand-soכׇּל־יִשְׂרָאֵלall-Israelיִוָּשֵׁעַshall-be-savedכַּכָּתוּבas-it-is-writtenוּבָאthere-shall-comeמִצִּיּוֹןout-of-Sionגּוֹאֵלthe-Delivererוְיָשִׁיבand-shall-turn-awayפֶּשַׁעungodlinessמִיַּעֲקֹב׃from-Jacob

    And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:

27. 27

    וְזֹאתand-this-isבְּרִיתִיmy-covenantאֲשֶׁרwhichאֶכְרֹתI-shall-makeאִתָּםwith-themכִּיwhenאֶסְלַחI-shall-forgiveלַעֲוֹנָם׃their-sins

    For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.

28. 28

    הֵןasבִּדְבַרconcerning-the-word-ofהַבְּשׂוֹרָהthe-gospelאֹיְבִיםenemiesהֵםthey-areבִּגְלַלְכֶםfor-your-sakesוּבִדְבַרbut-as-touchingהַבְּחִירָהthe-electionחֲבִיבִיםbelovedהֵםthey-areבִּגְלַלfor-the-sake-ofהָאָבוֹת׃the-fathers

    As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers' sakes.

29. 29

    כִּיforלֹא־יִנָּחֵםrepenteth-notהָאֱלֹהִיםGodעַל־מַתְּנוֹתָיוof-his-giftsוְלֹאand-notעַל־קְרִיאָתוֹ׃of-his-calling

    For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

30. 30

    כִּיforכַּאֲשֶׁרasגַּם־אַתֶּםyou-alsoמִלְּפָנִיםin-times-pastמַמְרִיםdisobedientהֱיִיתֶםyou-wereאֶת־פִּיtoאֱלֹהִיםGodוְעַתָּהyet-nowהוּחַנְתֶּםhave-obtained-mercyבְּמִרְיָםthrough-the-unbeliefשֶׁל־אֵלֶּה׃of-these

    For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief:

31. 31

    כֵּןeven-soגַּם־אֵלֶּהthese-alsoעַתָּהnowמַמְרִיםhave-not-believedלְמַעַןthatיֻחַנּוּmay-obtain-mercyגַם־הֵםthey-alsoעַל־יְדֵיthroughחֲנִינַתְכֶם׃your-mercy

    Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy.

32. 32

    כִּי־הָאֱלֹהִיםfor-Godהִסְגִּירhath-concludedאֶת־כֻּלָּםthem-allלַמֶּרִיin-unbeliefלְמַעַןthatיָחֹןhe-might-have-mercyאֶת־כֻּלָּם׃upon-all

    For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.

33. 33

    מֶה־עָמֹקO-the-depth-ofעשֶׁרthe-riches-ofחׇכְמַתthe-wisdom-ofאֱלֹהִיםGodוְעשֶׁרand-the-riches-ofדַּעְתּוֹhis-knowledgeמִשְׁפָּטָיוhis-judgmentsמִיwhoיַחְקֹרcan-search-outוּדְרָכָיוand-his-waysמִיwhoיִמְצָא׃can-find-out

    O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!

34. 34

    כִּיforמִי־יָדַעwho-hath-knownאֶת־רוּחַthe-mind-ofיְהוָֹהthe-Lordוּמִיor-whoהָיָהhath-beenאִישׁthe-man-ofעֲצָתוֹ׃his-counsel?

    For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor?

35. 35

    אוֹorמִיwhoהִקְדִּיםhath-first-givenאֹתוֹto-himבְדָבָרanythingוִישֻׁלַּםand-it-shall-be-recompensedלוֹ׃unto-him

    Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again?

36. 36

    הֲלֹאforמִמֶּנּוּof-himהַכֹּלare-all-thingsוְעַל־יָדוֹand-through-himהַכֹּלall-thingsוְאֵלָיוand-to-himהַכֹּלall-thingsוְלוֹto-whom-beהַכָּבוֹדgloryלְעוֹלָמִיםfor-everאָמֵן׃Amen

    For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.
