   I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.

   God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel, saying,

   הָאָדוֹןha/a/DONO Lordאֶת־נְבִיאֶיךָet-ne/vi/E/khaYour prophetsהָרְגוּha/re/GUthey have killedוְאֶת־מִזְבְּחֹתֶיךָve/ET-miz/be/cho/TE/khaand Your altarsהָרָסוּha/RA/suthey have torn downוָאִוָּתֵרva/iv/va/TERand I am leftאֲנִיa/NIIלְבַדִּיle/vad/DIaloneוַיְבַקְשׁוּvay/vak/SHUand they seekאֶת־נַפְשִׁי׃et-naf/SHImy soul

   Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life.

   וּמֶה־עָנָהu/ME-a/NAand what answeredאֹתוֹo/TOhimדְּבַרde/VARthe word ofאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodהִשְׁאַרְתִּיhish/ar/TII have reservedלִיlifor Myselfשִׁבְעַתshiv/ATsevenאֲלָפִיםa/la/FIMthousandאִישׁishmenאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoלֹא־כָרְעוּlo-kha/re/Uhave not kneltבֶרֶךְVE/rekhthe kneeלַבָּעַל׃lab/BA/alto Baal

   But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal.

   וְכֵןve/KHENand soגַּםgamalsoבָּעֵתba/ETat the timeהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisנִשְׁאֲרָהnish/a/RAremainsשְׁאֵרִיתshe/e/RITa remnantכִּבְחִירַתkiv/chi/RATaccording to the choosing ofהֶחָסֶד׃he/CHA/sedgrace

   Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.

   וְאִםve/IMand ifעַל־יְדֵיal-ye/DEbyהַחֶסֶדha/CHE/sedgraceאֵינֶנָּהe/NEN/nais notעוֹדodno moreמִן־הַמַּעֲשִׂיםmin-ham/ma/a/SIMfrom the worksכִּיkiforאִםimifכֵּןkensoהַחֶסֶדha/CHE/sedgraceאֵינֶנּוּ־עוֹדe/NEN/nu-odis no longerחָסֶדCHA/sedgraceוְאִם־הָיְתָהve/IM-ha/ye/TAand if it isמִן־הַמַּעֲשִׂיםmin-ham/ma/a/SIMfrom the worksאֵינֶנּוּ־עוֹדe/NEN/nu-odit is no longerחֶסֶדCHE/sedgraceכִּיkiforאִםimifכֵּןkensoהַמַּעֲשֶׂהham/ma/a/SEthe workיֶחְדַּלyech/DALceasesלִהְיוֹתlih/YOTto beמַעֲשֶׂה׃ma/a/SEwork

   And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.

   מָהmawhatאֵפוֹאe/FOthenאֶת־אֲשֶׁר־בִּקֵּשׁet-a/SHER-bik/KESHwhat it soughtיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelלֹאlonotהִשִּׂיגhis/SIGhas obtainedאַךְakhbutהַבְּחִירָהhab/be/chi/RAthe chosenהִשִּׂיגָהhis/SI/gaattainedוְהַנִּשְׁאָרִיםve/han/nish/a/RIMand the restהֻכּוּhuk/KUwere struckבַעִוָּרוֹן׃va/iv/va/RONwith blindness

   What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded

   כַּכָּתוּבkak/ka/TUVas it is writtenנָתַןna/TANgaveלָהֶםla/HEMthemהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodרוּחַRU/acha spirit ofתַּרְדֵּמָהtar/de/MAdeep sleepעֵינַיִםe/NA/yimeyesלֹאlonotלִרְאוֹתlir/OTto seeוְאׇזְנַיִםve/oz/NA/yimand earsלֹאlonotלִשְׁמֹעַlish/MO/ato hearעַד־הַיּוֹםad-hay/YOMuntil the dayהַזֶּה׃haz/ZEthis

   (According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear;) unto this day.

   וְדָוִדve/Da/VIDand Davidאֹמֵרo/MERsaysיְהִיye/HIlet becomeשֻׁלְחָנָםshul/cha/NAMtheir tableלְפַחle/FACHa snareוּלְרֶשֶׁתu/le/RE/shetand a netוּלְמוֹקֵשׁu/le/mo/KESHand a trapוּלְשִׁלּוּמִיםu/le/shil/lu/MIMand a repaymentלָהֶם׃la/HEMto them

   And David saith, Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, and a stumblingblock, and a recompence unto them:

    תֶּחְשַׁכְנָהtech/SHAKH/nalet be darkenedעֵינֵיהֶםe/ne/HEMtheir eyesמֵרְאוֹתmer/OTfrom seeingוְגַבָּםve/gab/BAMand their backתָּמִידta/MIDalwaysכֹּף׃kofbow down

    Let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see, and bow down their back alway.

    אֲנִיa/NIIאֹמֵרo/MERsayאֵפוֹאe/FOthenהֲנִכְשְׁלוּha/nikh/she/LUdid they stumbleלְמַעַןle/MA/anso thatיִפֹּלוּyip/PO/luthey would fallחָלִילָהcha/LI/lafar be itכִּיkibutבְמַפַּלְתָּםve/map/pal/TAMthrough their fallבָּאָהba/Ahas comeהַיְשׁוּעָהhay/shu/Asalvationלַגּוֹיִםlag/Go/YIMto the Gentilesלְמַעַןle/MA/anso asהַקְנִיאָם׃hak/ni/AMto make them jealous

    I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy.

    וְאִם־מַפַּלְתָּםve/IM-map/pal/TAMnow if the fall of themהָיְתָהha/ye/TAbeלְעֹשֶׁרle/O/sherriches forהָעוֹלָםha/o/LAMthe worldוְחֶסְרוֹנָםve/ches/ro/NAMand their lackלְעֹשֶׁרle/O/sherriches forהַגּוֹיִםhag/Go/YIMthe Gentilesאַףafmuchכִּיkimoreמְלֹאָם׃me/lo/AMtheir fullness

    Now if the fall of them be the riches of the world, and the diminishing of them the riches of the Gentiles; how much more their fulness?

13. 13

    וַאֲלֵיכֶםva/a/le/KHEMand to youהַגּוֹיִםhag/Go/YIMthe Gentilesאֲנִיa/NIIמְדַבֵּרme/dab/BERspeakוּכְפִיu/khe/FIand according asהֱיוֹתִיhe/yo/TII amשָׁלִיחַsha/LI/achan apostleלַגּוֹיִםlag/Go/YIMto the Gentilesאֶת־שֵׁרוּתִיet-she/ru/TImy serviceאֲכַבֵּד׃a/khab/BEDI honor

    For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office:

14. 14

    אוּלַיu/LAYperhapsאוּכַלu/KHALI may be ableלְהַקְנִיאle/hak/NIto make jealousאֶת־בְּשָׂרִיet-be/sa/RImy fleshוּלְהוֹשִׁיעַu/le/ho/SHI/aand to saveמִקְצָתָם׃mik/tsa/TAMsome of them

    If by any means I may provoke to emulation them which are my flesh, and might save some of them.

15. 15

    כִּיkiforאִם־בִּזְנֹחַim-biz/NO/achif the casting away ofאֹתָםo/TAMthemהִתְרַצָּהhit/rats/TSAbe the reconciling ofהָעוֹלָםha/o/LAMthe worldמָה־אֵפוֹאma-e/FOwhat thenתִּהְיֶהtih/YEshall beאֲסֵפָתָםa/se/fa/TAMtheir gatheringהֲלֹאha/LOif notחַיִּיםchay/YIMlifeמִן־הַמֵּתִים׃min-ham/me/TIMfrom the dead

    For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead?

16. 16

    וְאִם־הָרֵאשִׁיתve/IM-ha/re/SHITfor if the firstfruitקֹדֶשׁKO/deshis holyהָעֲרִסָהha/a/ri/SAthe lumpקֹדֶשׁKO/deshis holyכָּמוֹהָka/MO/halike itוְאִם־הַשֹּׁרֶשׁve/IM-hash/SHO/reshand if the rootקֹדֶשׁKO/deshis holyהָעֲנָפִיםha/a/na/FIMthe branchesקֹדֶשׁKO/deshare holyכָּמוֹהוּ׃ka/mo/HUlike it

    For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches.

17. 17

    וְאִםve/IMand ifנִשְׁבְּרוּnish/be/RUwere brokenמִקְצָתmik/TSATsome ofהָעֲנָפִיםha/a/na/FIMthe branchesוְאַתָּהve/at/TAand youזַיִתZA/yitbeing an olive treeבָּרbarwildהֻרְכַּבְתָּhur/kav/TAwere graftedבְּתוֹכָםbe/to/KHAMamong themוְנִתְחַבַּרְתָּve/nit/chab/bar/TAand you were joinedעִמָּהֶםim/ma/HEMwith themלְשֹׁרֶשׁle/SHO/reshof the root ofהַזַּיִתhaz/ZA/yitthe olive treeוּלְדִשְׁנוֹ׃u/le/dish/NOand its fatness

    And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert grafted in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree;

18. 18

    אַל־תִּתְפָּאֵרal-tit/pa/ERdo not boastעַל־הָעֲנָפִיםal-ha/a/na/FIMagainst the branchesוְאִם־תִּתְפָּאֵרve/IM-tit/pa/ERand if you boastאַתָּהat/TAyouלֹאlonotנֹשֵׂאno/SEbearאֶת־הַשֹּׁרֶשׁet-hash/SHO/reshthe rootכִּיkibutאִםimratherהַשֹּׁרֶשׁhash/SHO/reshthe rootנֹשֵׂאno/SEbearsאוֹתְךָ׃ot/KHAyou

    Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee.

19. 19

    וְאַתָּהve/at/TAand youתֹאמַרto/MARyou sayנִשְׁבְּרוּnish/be/RUwere brokenהָעֲנָפִיםha/a/na/FIMthe branchesלְמַעַןle/MA/anso thatאֻרְכַּבur/KAVmight be graftedאָנִי׃A/niI

    Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be grafted in.

20. 20

    כֵּןkensoהַדָּבָרhad/da/VARis the matterבְּחֶסְרוֹןbe/ches/RONbecause of the lack ofאֱמוּנָהe/mu/NAfaithנִשְׁבְּרוּnish/be/RUwere brokenוְאַתָּהve/at/TAand youעֹמֵדo/MEDstandבָּאֱמוּנָהba/e/mu/NAby faithאַל־יִגְבַּהּal-yig/BAbe not highלִבְּךָlib/be/KHAyour heartכִּיkibutאִם־יְרָא׃im-ye/RArather fear

    Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:

21. 21

    כִּיkiforאִםimifהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodלֹא־חָשַׂךְlo-cha/SAKHHe spared notאֶת־הָעֲנָפִיםet-ha/a/na/FIMthe branchesהָרִאשׁוֹנִיםha/ri/sho/NIMthe firstהִשָּׁמֵרhish/sha/MERtake heedכִּיkithatגַּם־אֹתְךָgam-ot/KHAyou alsoלֹא־יַחְשֹׂךְ׃lo-yach/SOKHhe spare not

    For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.

22. 22

    לָכֵןla/KHENthereforeרְאֵה־נָאre/E-nasee nowטוֹבַתto/VATthe goodness ofאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodוְזַעְמוֹve/za/MOand His indignationזַעְמוֹza/MOHis indignationעַל־הַנֹּפְלִיםal-han/nof/LIMon those who fellוְעָלֶיךָve/a/LE/khaand on youטוֹבָתוֹto/va/TOHis goodnessאִם־תַּעֲמֹדim-ta/a/MODif you remainבְּטוֹבָתוֹbe/to/va/TOin His goodnessוְאִם־אַיִןve/IM-A/yinand if notגַּם־אַתָּהgam-at/TAyou alsoתִכָּרֵת׃tik/ka/RETwill be cut off

    Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.

23. 23

    וְגַם־הֵמָּהve/GAM-HEM/maand they alsoאִם־לֹאim-loif notיַעַמְדוּya/am/DUthey remainבְּחֶסְרוֹןbe/ches/RONin the lack ofאֱמוּנָתָםe/mu/na/TAMtheir faithיֻרְכְּבוּyur/ke/VUwill be graftedכִּי־יָכֹלki-ya/KHOLfor is ableהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodלָשׁוּבla/SHUVagainלְהַרְכִּיבָם׃le/har/ki/VAMto graft them

    And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be grafted in: for God is able to graft them in again.

24. 24

    כִּיkiforאִםimifאַתָּהat/TAyouנִכְרַתָּnikh/rat/TAwere cut outמִן־הַזַּיִתmin-haz/ZA/yitof the olive treeאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatבָּרbarwildהוּאhuisלְמִינוֹle/mi/NOafter its kindוְהֻרְכַּבְתָּve/hur/kav/TAand were graftedלֹאlonotלְמִינְךָle/mi/ne/KHAafter your kindבְּזַיִתbe/ZA/yitinto an olive treeטוֹבtovgoodאַףafmuchכִּיkimoreיֻרְכְּבוּyur/ke/VUwill be graftedאֵלֶּהEL/letheseהָעֲנָפִיםha/a/na/FIMthe branchesהָרִאשׁוֹנִיםha/ri/sho/NIMthe firstבְּזֵיתָם׃be/ze/TAMinto their own olive tree

    For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert grafted contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree?

25. 25

    כִּיkiforלֹא־אֲכַחֵדlo-a/kha/CHEDI will not hideמִכֶּםmik/KEMfrom youאַחַיa/CHAYmy brothersאֶת־הַסּוֹדet-has/SODthe secretהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisפֶּן־תִּהְיוּpen-tih/YUlest you beחֲכָמִיםcha/kha/MIMwiseבְּעֵינֵיכֶםbe/e/ne/KHEMin your eyesכִּיkithatעִוָּרוֹןiv/va/RONblindnessלְמִקְצָתle/mik/TSATin partקָרָהka/RAis happenedאֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵלet-Yis/ra/ELIsraelעַדaduntilכִּי־יָבוֹאki-ya/VObe come inמְלֹאme/LOthe fullness ofהַגּוֹיִם׃hag/Go/YIMthe Gentiles

    For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.

26. 26

    וְכֵןve/KHENand soכׇּל־יִשְׂרָאֵלkol-Yis/ra/ELall Israelיִוָּשֵׁעַyiv/va/SHE/awill be savedכַּכָּתוּבkak/ka/TUVas it is writtenוּבָאu/VAand will comeמִצִּיּוֹןmits/Tsiy/YONfrom Zionהַגּוֹאֵלhag/Go/ELthe Redeemerוְיָשִׁיבve/ya/SHIVand will turn awayפֶּשַׁעPE/shatransgressionמִיַּעֲקֹב׃miy/Ya/a/KOVfrom Jacob

    And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:

27. 27

    וְזֹאתve/ZOTand thisבְּרִיתִיbe/ri/TIMy covenantאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatאֶכְרֹתekh/ROTI will makeאִתָּםit/TAMwith themכִּיkiwhenאָסִירa/SIRI will take awayאֶת־חַטֹּאתָם׃et-chat/to/TAMtheir sins

    For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.

28. 28

    הֵןhenbeholdבִּדְבַרbid/VARin the matter ofהַבְּשׂוֹרָהhab/be/so/RAthe gospelאֹיְבִיםoy/VIMenemiesהֵםhemthey areבִּגְלַלְכֶםbig/lal/KHEMbecause of youוּבִדְבַרu/vid/VARand in the matter ofהַבְּחִירָהhab/be/chi/RAthe choosingאֲהוּבִיםa/hu/VIMbelovedהֵםhemthey areבִּגְלַלbig/LALbecause ofהָאָבוֹת׃ha/a/VOTthe fathers

    As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers' sakes.

29. 29

    כִּיkiforלֹא־יִנָּחֵםlo-yin/na/CHEMdoes not relentהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodעַל־מַתְּנוֹתָיוal-mat/te/no/TAYVof His giftsוְלֹאve/LOand notעַל־קְרִיאָתוֹ׃al-ke/ri/a/TOof His calling

    For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

30. 30

    כִּיkiforכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasאַתֶּםat/TEMyouמִלְּפָנִיםmil/le/fa/NIMformerlyלֹאlonotהֶאֱמַנְתֶּםhe/e/man/TEMyou believedבֵּאלֹהִיםbe/lo/HIMGodוְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowהוּחַנְתֶּםhu/chan/TEMyou have been shown graceבְּחֶסְרוֹןbe/ches/RONthrough the lack ofאֱמוּנָתָם׃e/mu/na/TAMtheir faith

    For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief:

31. 31

    כֵּןkensoגַּם־אֵלֶּהgam-EL/lethese alsoעַתָּהat/TAnowלֹאlonotהֶאֱמִינוּhe/e/MI/nuhave believedלְמַעַןle/MA/anso thatיֻחַנּוּyu/chan/NUthey may be shown graceגַם־הֵםgam-hemthey alsoעַל־יְדֵיal-ye/DEthroughחֲנִינַתְכֶם׃cha/ni/nat/KHEMthe grace shown you

    Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy.

32. 32

    כִּי־הָאֱלֹהִיםki-ha/e/lo/HIMfor Godהִסְגִּירhis/GIRhas shut upאֶת־כֻּלָּםet-kul/LAMall of themלְחֶסְרוֹןle/ches/RONin the lack ofאֱמוּנָהe/mu/NAfaithלְמַעַןle/MA/anso thatיָחֹןya/CHONHe may be gracious toאֶת־כֻּלָּם׃et-kul/LAMall of them

    For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.

33. 33

    מֶה־עָמֹקme-a/MOKhow deep isעֹשֶׁרO/sherthe wealth ofחׇכְמַתchokh/MATthe wisdom ofאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodוְדַעְתּוֹve/da/TOand knowledge ofמִשְׁפָּטָיוmish/pa/TAYVHis judgmentsמִיmiwhoיַחְקֹרyach/KORcan searchוּדְרָכָיוu/de/ra/KHAYVand His waysמִיmiwhoיִמְצָא׃yim/TSAcan find

    O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!

34. 34

    כִּיkiforמִי־יָדַעmi-ya/DAwho has knownאֶת־רוּחַet-RU/achthe spirit ofיְהוָֹהAdonaithe LORDוּמִיu/MIand whoהָיָהha/YAhas beenאִישׁishthe man ofעֲצָתוֹ׃a/tsa/TOHis counsel

    For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor?

35. 35

    אוֹoorמִיmiwhoהִקְדִּיםhik/DIMhas first givenאֹתוֹo/TOHimבְדָבָרve/da/VARa thingוִישֻׁלַּםvi/shul/LAMand it will be repaidלוֹ׃loto him

    Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again?

36. 36

    כִּיkiforמִמֶּנּוּmim/MEN/nufrom Himוְעַל־יָדוֹve/AL-ya/DOand through Himוְאֵלָיוve/e/LAYVand to Himהַכֹּלhak/KOLallוְלוֹve/LOand to Himהַכָּבוֹדhak/ka/VODgloryלְעוֹלָמִיםle/o/la/MIMforeverאָמֵן׃a/MENamen

    For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.
