    וַיֵּרֶדAnd he enteredבׇּאֳנִיָּהinto a ship,וַיַּעֲבֹרand passed over,וַיָּבֹאand cameאֶל־עִירוֹ׃into his own city.

    And he entered into a ship, and passed over, and came into his own city.

  2. 2

    וְהִנֵּהAnd, behold,הֵםtheyמְבִיאִיםbroughtאֵלָיוto himאִישׁa manנְכֵהsick ofאֵבָרִיםthe palsy,וְהוּאand heמֻשְׁכָּבlyingעַל־הַמִּטָּהon a bed:וַיְהִיandכִּרְאוֹתseeingיֵשׁוּעַJesusאֶת־אֱמוּנָתָםtheir faithוַיֹּאמֶרsaidאֶל־נְכֵהunto the sick ofהָאֵבָרִיםthe palsy;חֲזַקbe of good cheer,בְּנִיmy son;נִסְלְחוּ־לְךָbe forgiven you.חַטֹּאתֶיךָ׃your sins

    And, behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy; Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee.

    וְהִנֵּהAnd, behold,אֲנָשִׁיםcertainמִן־הַסּוֹפְרִיםof the scribesאָמְרוּsaidבִלְבָבָםwithin themselves,מְגַדֵּףblasphemeth.הוּא׃This man

    And, behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemeth.

    וְיֵשׁוּעַAnd Jesusרָאָהknowingאֶת־מַחְשְׁבֹתָםtheir thoughtsוַיֹּאמַרsaid,לָמָּהWhereforeתַחְשְׁבוּthink youרָעָהevilבִּלְבַבְכֶם׃in your hearts?

    And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts?

    כִּיForמָהwhetherהַנָּקֵלis easier,הֶאָמֹרto say,נִסְלְחוּ־לְךָbe forgiven you;חַטֹּאתֶיךָYour sinsאִם־אָמֹרor to say,קוּםArise,הִתְהַלֵּךְ׃and walk?

    For whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and walk?

    אַךְButלְמַעַןthatתֵּדְעוּןyou may knowכִּיthatבֶן־הָאָדָםthe Son of manיֶשׁ־לוֹhathהַשָּׁלְטָןpowerבָּאָרֶץon earthלִסְלֹחַto forgiveלַחֲטָאִיםsins,וַיֹּאמֶר(then saith heאֶל־נְכֵהto the sick ofהָאֵבָרִיםthe palsy,)קוּםArise,שָׂאtake upאֶת־מִטָּתְךָyour bed,וְלֶךְ־לְךָand goאֶל־בֵּיתֶך׃unto your house.

    But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house.

    וַיָּקׇםAnd he arose,וַיֵּלֶךְand departedלְבֵיתוֹ׃to his house.

    And he arose, and departed to his house.

  8. 8

    וַהֲמוֹןBut when the multitudeהָעָםof the peopleרָאוּsaw it,וַיִּשְׁתּוֹמֲמוּthey marvelled,וַיְשַׁבְּחוּand glorifiedאֶת־הָאֱלֹהִיםGod,אֲשֶׁרwhichנָתַןhad givenשׇׁלְטָןpowerכָּזֶהsuchלִבְנֵיunto the sons ofאָדָם׃men.

    But when the multitudes saw it, they marvelled, and glorified God, which had given such power unto men.

    וַיְהִיAndבַּעֲבֹרas passed forthיֵשׁוּעַJesusמִשָּׁםfrom thence,וַיַּרְאhe sawאִישׁa man,יֹשֵׁבsittingבְּבֵית־הַמֶּכֶסat the receipt of custom:וּשְׁמוֹnamedמַתָּיMatthew,וַיֹּאמֶרand he saithאֵלָיוunto him,לְכָהFollowאַחֲרָיme.וַיָּקׇםAnd he arose,וַיֵּלֶךְand followedאַחֲרָיו׃him.

    And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he saith unto him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him.

    וַיְהִיAnd it came to pass,בַּהֲסִבּוֹas Jesus sat at meatבְּבֵיתוֹin the house,וְהִנֵּהbehold,מוֹכְסִיםpublicansוְחַטָּאִיםand sinnersרַבִּיםmanyבָּאוּcameוַיָּסֵבּוּand sat downעִם־יֵשׁוּעַwith himוְתַלְמִידָיו׃and his disciples.

    And it came to pass, as Jesus sat at meat in the house, behold, many publicans and sinners came and sat down with him and his disciples.

  11. 11

    וַיִּרְאוּAnd when saw it,הַפְּרוּשִׁיםthe Phariseesוַיֹּאמְרוּthey saidאֶל־תַּלְמִידָיוunto his disciples,מַדּוּעַWhyיֹאכַלeatethרַבְּכֶםyour Masterעִם־הַמּוֹכְסִיםwith publicansוְהַחַטָּאִים׃and sinners?

    And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners?

  12. 12

    וַיִּשְׁמַעBut when heard that,יֵשׁוּעַJesusוַיֹּאמֶרhe saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,הַחֲזָקִיםThey that be wholeאֵינָםare notצְרִיכִיםin need ofלְרֹפֵאa physician,כִּיbutאִם־הַחוֹלִים׃they that are sick.

    But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.

  13. 13

    וְאַתֶּםButצְאוּgo youוְלִמְדוּand learnמָהwhatהוּאit isשֶׁנֶּאֱמַרthat meaneth,חֶסֶדmercy,חָפַצְתִּיI will haveוְלֹאand notזָבַחsacrifice:כִּיforלֹא־בָאתִיI am not comeלִקְרֹאto callאֶת־הַצַּדִּיקִיםthe righteous,כִּיbutאִם־אֶת־הַחַטָּאִיםsinnersלִתְשׁוּבָה׃to repentance.

    But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

    וַיִּגְּשׁוּThen cameאֵלָיוto himתַּלְמִידֵיthe disciples ofיוֹחָנָןJohn,וַיֹּאמְרוּsaying,מַדּוּעַWhyאֲנַחְנוּdo weוְהַפְּרוּשִׁיםand the Phariseesצָמִיםfastהַרְבֵּהoft,וְתַלְמִידֶיךָbut your disciplesאֵינָםnot?צָמִים׃fast

    Then came to him the disciples of John, saying, Why do we and the Pharisees fast oft, but thy disciples fast not?

  15. 15

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,יֵשׁוּעַJesusאֵיךְHowיוּכְלוּcanבְּנֵיthe children ofהַחֻפָּהthe bridechamberלְהִתְאַבֵּלmourn,בְּעוֹדas long asהֶחָתָןthe bridegroomעִמָּהֶםis with them?הִנֵּהbutיָמִיםthe daysבָּאִיםwill come,וְלֻקַּחwhen shall be takenמֵאִתָּםfrom them,הֶחָתָןthe bridegroomוְאָזand thenיָצוּמוּ׃shall they fast.

    And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? but the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then shall they fast.

    אֵיןNoאָדָםmanמֵשִׂיםputtethטְלַאיa piece ofחָדָשׁnew clothעַל־שִׁמְלָהunto garment,בָלָהan oldכִּיforיִנָּתֵקtakethהַטְּלַאיthat which is put in to fill it upמִן־הַשִּׂמְלָהfrom the garment,וְיִתְרַחֵבand is made worse.הַקֶּרַע׃the rent

    No man putteth a piece of new cloth unto an old garment, for that which is put in to fill it up taketh from the garment, and the rent is made worse.

    וְאֵיןNeitherנוֹתְנִיםdo men putיַיִןwineחָדָשׁnewבְּנֹאדוֹתinto bottles:בָּלִיםoldפֶּן־יִבָּקְעוּelse break,הַנֹּאדוֹתthe bottlesוְהַיַּיִןand the wineיִשָׁפֵךְrunneth out,וְהַנֹּאדוֹתand the bottlesיֹאבֵדוּperish:אֲבָלbutנוֹתְנִיםthey putאֶת־הַיַּיִןwineהֶחָדָשׁnewבְּנֹאדוֹתinto bottles,חֲדָשִׁיםnewוּשְׁנֵיהֶםand bothיַחְדָּוtogetherיִשָׁמֵרוּ׃are preserved.

    Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved.

  18. 18

    וַיְהִיWhileהוּאheמְדַבֵּרspakeאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,אֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםthe thingsהָאֵלֶּהthese,וְהִנֵּהbehold,אַחַדa certainהַשָּׂרִיםrulerבָּאcame,וַיִּשְׁתַּחוּ־לוֹand worshiped him,וַיֹּאמַרsaying,עַתָּהnowזֶהthis momentמֵתָהis dead:בִתִּיMy daughterבֹּא־נָאbut comeוְשִׂיםand layאֶת־יָדְךָyour handעָלֶיהָupon her,וְתִחְיֶה׃and she shall live.

    While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.

  19. 19

    וַיָּקׇםAnd arose,יֵשׁוּעַJesusוַיֵּלֶךְand followedאַחֲרָיוhim,הוּאand so didוְתַלְמִידָיו׃his disciples.

    And Jesus arose, and followed him, and so did his disciples.

  20. 20

    וְהִנֵּהAnd, behold,אִשָּׁהa woman,זָבַתwhich was diseased with an issue ofדָּםbloodשְׁתֵּים־עֶשְׂרֵהtwelveשָׁנָהyears,נִגְּשָׁהcameמֵאַחֲרָיוbehind him,וַתִּגַּעand touchedבִּכְנַףthe hem ofבִּגְדוֹ׃his garment:

    And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment:

  21. 21

    כִּיForאָמְרָהshe saidבְּלִבָּהּwithin herself,רַקbutאִם־אֶגַּעIf I may touchבְּבִגְדוֹhis garment,אִוָּשֵׁעַ׃I shall be whole.

    For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole.

  22. 22

    וַיִּפֶןBut turned him about,יֵשׁוּעַJesusוַיַּרְאand when he sawאוֹתָהּher,וַיֹּאמַרhe said,חִזְקִיbe of good comfort;בִתִּיDaughter,אֱמוּנָתֵךְyour faithהוֹשִׁיעָהhath made youלָּךְwhole.וַתִּוָּשַׁעAnd was made wholeהָאִשָּׁהthe womanמִן־הַשָּׁעָהfrom hour.הַהִיא׃that

    But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.

  23. 23

    וַיָּבֹאAnd when cameיֵשׁוּעַJesusאֶל־בֵּיתinto house,הַשָּׂרthe ruler'sוַיַּרְאand sawאֶת־הַמְחַלֲלִיםthe minstrelsבַּחֲלִילִיםwith flutes,וְאֶת־הָעָםand the peopleהַהוֹמֶה׃making a noise,

    And when Jesus came into the ruler's house, and saw the minstrels and the people making a noise,

  24. 24

    וַיֹּאמַרHe said unto them,סוּרוּGive placeמִפֹּהfrom hence:כִּיforלֹאis notמֵתָהdead,הַיַּלְדָּהthe maidאַךְbutיְשֵׁנָהsleepethהִיאshe.וַיִּשְׂחֲקוּAnd they laughedלוֹ׃him to scorn.

    He said unto them, Give place: for the maid is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn.

  25. 25

    וַיְהִיButכַּאֲשֶׁרwhenהוֹצִיאוּwere put forth,אֶת־הָעָםthe peopleמִשָּׁםfrom thence,וַיָּבֹאhe wentהַבַּיְתָהinto the house,וַיֹּאחֶזand tookבְּיָדָהּher by the hand,וַתָּקׇםand arose.הַנַּעֲרָה׃the maid

    But when the people were put forth, he went in, and took her by the hand, and the maid arose.

  26. 26

    וַתֵּצֵאAnd went abroadהַשְׁמוּעָהthe fameהַזֹּאתhereofבְּכׇל־הָאָרֶץinto all land.הַהִיא׃that

    And the fame hereof went abroad into all that land.

  27. 27

    וַיַּעֲבֹרAnd when departedיֵשׁוּעַJesusמִשָּׁםthence,וַיֵּלְכוּfollowedאַחֲרָיוhim,שְׁנֵיtwoאֲנָשִׁיםmenעִוְרִיםblind,וְהֵמָּהand they wereצֹעֲקִיםcrying,וְאֹמְרִיםand saying,חׇנֵּנוּhave mercy on us.בֶּן־דָּוִד׃You Son of David,

    And when Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed him, crying, and saying, Thou Son of David, have mercy on us.

  28. 28

    וּכְבוֹאוֹAnd when he was comeהַבַּיְתָהinto the house,נִגְּשׁוּcameאֵלָיוto him:הַעִוְרִיםthe blind menוַיֹּאמֶרand saithאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,יֵשׁוּעַJesusהֲמַאֲמִינִיםBelieveאַתֶּםyouכִּיthatיֵשׁ־לְאֵלthere is power inיָדִיmy handלַעֲשׂוֹתto doזֹאתthis?וַיֹּאמְרוּThey saidאֵלָיוunto him,הֵןYea,אֲדֹנֵינוּ׃Lord.

    And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yea, Lord.

  29. 29

    וַיִּגַּעThen touched heבְּעֵינֵיהֶםtheir eyes,וַיֹּאמַרsaying,יְהִיbe itלָכֶםunto you.כֶּאֱמוּנַתְכֶם׃According to your faith

    Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you.

  30. 30

    וַתִּפָּקַחְנָהAnd were opened;עֵינֵיהֶםtheir eyesוַיִּגְעַר־בָּםand straitly charged them,יֵשׁוּעַJesusוַיֹּאמַרsaying,רְאוּSee thatפֶּן־יִוָּדַעknow it.לְאִישׁ׃no man

    And their eyes were opened; and Jesus straitly charged them, saying, See that no man know it.

  31. 31

    וְהֵמָּהBut they,בְּצֵאתָםwhen they were departed,הִשְׁמִיעוּspread abroadאֶת־שׇׁמְעוֹhis fameבְּכׇל־הָאָרֶץin all country.הַהִיא׃that

    But they, when they were departed, spread abroad his fame in all that country.

  32. 32

    הֵמָּהAs theyיָצָאוּwent out,וְהִנֵּהbehold,הֵבִיאוּthey broughtאֵלָיוto himאִישׁa manאִלֵּםdumbאֲחוּזpossessed withשֵׁד׃a devil.

    As they went out, behold, they brought to him a dumb man possessed with a devil.

  33. 33

    וַיְגָרֶשׁAnd when was cast out,אֶת־הַשֵׁדthe devilוְהָאִלֵּםthe dumbהֵחֵלbeganלְדַבֵּרto speak:וַיִּתְמַהּand marvelled,הֲמוֹןthe multitudeהָאֲנָשִׁיםof men,וַיֹּאמְרוּsaying,מֵעוֹלָםNeverלֹא־נִרְאֲתָהwas it seenכָזֹאתlike this,בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל׃in Israel.

    And when the devil was cast out, the dumb spake: and the multitudes marvelled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel.

  34. 34

    וְהַפְּרוּשִׁיםBut the Phariseesאָמְרוּsaid,עַל־יְדֵיthroughשַׂרthe prince ofהַשֵּׁדִיםthe devils.מְגָרֵשׁcasteth outהוּאheאֵת־הַשֵּׁדִים׃devils

    But the Pharisees said, He casteth out devils through the prince of the devils.

  35. 35

    וַיָּסׇבAnd went aboutיֵשׁוּעַJesusבְּכׇל־הֶעָרִיםall the citiesוְהַכְּפָרִיםand villages,וַיְלַמֵּדteachingבִּכְנֵסִיּוֹתֵיהֶםin their synagogues,וַיְבַשֵּׂרand preachingבְּשׂוֹרַתthe gospel ofהַמַּלְכוּתthe kingdom,וַיְרַפֵּאand healingכׇּל־מַחֲלָהevery sicknessוְכׇל־מַדְוֶהand every diseaseבָּעָם׃among the people.

    And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.

  36. 36

    וּבִרְאוֹתוֹBut when he sawאֶת־הַהֲמֹנִיםthe multitudes,נִכְמְרוּhe was moved withרַחֲמָיוcompassionעֲלֵיהֶםon them,כִּיbecauseהֵםtheyמִתְעַלְּפִיםfainted,וְנִדָּחִיםand were scattered abroad,כַּצֹּאןas sheepאֲשֶׁרwhichאֵין־לָהֶםhaving noרֹעֶה׃shepherd.

    But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.

  37. 37

    אָזThenיְדַבֵּרspakeלְתַלְמִידָיוunto his disciples,וַיֹּאמַרsaying,רַבtruly is plenteous,הַקָּצִירThe harvestוְהַפֹּעֲלִיםbut the laborersמְעַטִּים׃are few;

    Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;

  38. 38

    לָכֵןthereforeהִתְחַנֲנוּPray youאֶל־בַּעַלthe Lord ofהַקָּצִירthe harvest,לִשְׁלֹחַthat he will send forthפֹּעֲלִיםlaborersלִקְצִירוֹ׃into his harvest.

    Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.
