1. 1

   הִשָּׁמְרוּTake heedלָכֶםthat youמֵעֲשׂוֹתdo notצִדְקַתְכֶםyour almsלִפְנֵיbeforeבְּנֵיthe sons ofאָדָםmen,לְהֵרָאוֹתto be seenלָהֶםof them:כִּיforאִםifכֵּןso,אֵין־לָכֶםyou have noשָׂכָרrewardמֵאֵתofאֲבִיכֶםyour Fatherשֶׁבַּשָׁמָיִם׃which is in heaven.

   Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.

   לָכֵןThereforeבַּעֲשׂוֹתְךָwhen you doצְדָקָהyour alms,אַל־תָּרִיעַdo not soundלְפָנֶיךָbefore you,בַּשׂוֹפָרa trumpetכַּאֲשֶׁרasיַעֲשׂוּdoהַחֲנֵפִיםthe hypocritesבְּבָתֵּיinכְנֵסִיּוֹתthe synagoguesוּבָרְחֹבוֹתand in the streets,לְמַעַןthatיְהַלֲלוּmay praiseאוֹתָםthem,הָאֲנָשִׁיםthe men.אָמֵןVerilyאֹמֵרsayאֲנִיIלָכֶםunto you,הֵמָּהTheyנָשְׂאוּhaveאֶת־שְׂכָרָם׃their reward.

   Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

   וְאַתָּהButבַּעֲשׂוֹתְךָwhen you doצְדָקָהalms,אַל־תֵּדַעlet not knowשְׂמֹאלְךָyour left handאֵת־אֲשֶׁרwhatעֹשָׂהdoeth:יְמִינֶךָ׃your right hand

   But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:

   לְמַעַןThatתִּהְיֶהmay beצִדְקָתְךָyour almsבַּסָּתֶרin secret:וְאָבִיךָand your Fatherהָרֹאֶהwhich seethבַּמִּסְתָּרִיםin secretהוּאhimselfבַּגָּלוּיopenly.יִגְמְלֶךָ׃shall reward you

   That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.

   וְכִיAnd whenתִתְפַּלֵּלyou pray,אַל־תְּהִיyou shall not beכַּחֲנֵפִיםas the hypocritesהָאֹהֲבִיםare: for they loveלְהִתְפַּלֵּלto prayבְּעׇמְדָםstandingבְּבָתֵּיinכְנֵסִיּוֹתthe synagoguesוּבְפִנּוֹתand in the corners ofהַשְׁוָקִיםthe streets,לְמַעַןthatיֵרָאוּthey may be seenלִבְנֵיofאָדָםmen.אָמֵןVerilyאֹמֵרsayאֲנִיIלָכֶםunto you,הֵמָּהTheyנָשְׂאוּhaveאֶת־שְׂכָרָם׃their reward.

   And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

   וְאַתָּהBut you,כִּיwhenתִתְפַּלֵּלyou pray,בּוֹאenterבְחֶדְרְךָinto your closet,וּסְגֹרand when you have shutדְּלָתְךָyour door,בַּעַדְךָabout you,וְהִתְפַּלֵּלprayאֶל־אָבִיךָto your Fatherאֲשֶׁרwhich isבַּסָּתֶרin secret;וְאָבִיךָand your Fatherהָרֹאֶהwhich seethבַּמִּסְתָּרִיםin secretהוּאhimselfבַּגָּלוּיopenly.יִגְמְלֶךָ׃shall reward you

   But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

   וּבְהִתְפַּלֶּלְכֶםBut when you pray,אַל־תְּפַטְפְּטוּuse not vain repetitions,כַּגּוֹיִםas the heathenהָאֹמְרִיםwho thinkבִּלְבָבָםin their hearts,בְּרֹבfor their muchדְּבָרֵינוּspeakingנִשָׁמֵעַ׃that they shall be heard.

   But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

8. 8

   וְאַתֶּםBe not you thereforeאַל־תִּדַּמּוּlikeלָהֶםunto them:כִּיforיוֹדֵעַknowethאֲבִיכֶםyour Fatherכׇּל־צׇרְכְּכֶםwhat things you have need of,בְּטֶרֶםbeforeתִּשְׁאֲלוּyou askמִמֶּנּוּ׃him.

   Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

9. 9

   לָכֵןthereforeכֹּהAfter this mannerתִתְפַּלָּלוּpray you:אָבִינוּOur Fatherשֶׁבַּשָׁמַיִםwhich art in heaven,יִתְקַדַּשׁHallowed beשְׁמֶךָ׃your name.

   After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

10. 10

    תָּבֹּאcomeמַלְכוּתֶךָYour kingdom.יֵעָשֶׂהbe doneרְצוֹנְךָYour will,כַּאֲשֶׁרasבַּשָּׁמַיִםin heaven,גַּםsoבָּאָרֶץ׃in earth.

    Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

11. 11

    אֶת־לֶחֶםthe breadחֻקֵּנוּour daily,תֵּן־לָנוּgive usהַיּוֹם׃this day.

    Give us this day our daily bread.

12. 12

    וּמְחַל־לָנוּAnd forgive usעַל־חֹבוֹתֵינוּour debts,כַּאֲשֶׁרasמָחַלְנוּforgiveגַּם־אֲנַחְנוּwe alsoלְחַיָּבֵינוּ׃our debtors.

    And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

13. 13

    וְאַל־תְּבִיאֵנוּAnd lead us notלִידֵיintoנִסָּיוֹןtemptation,כִּיbutאִםratherתְּחַלְּצֵנוּdeliver usמִן־הָרָעfrom evil:כִּיForלְךָyour isהַמַּמְלָכָהthe kingdom,וְהַגְּבוּרָהand the power,וְהַתִּפְאֶרֶתand the glory,לְעוֹלְמֵיfor everעוֹלָמִיםand ever.אָמֵן׃Amen.

    And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

14. 14

    כִּיForאִםifתִּמְחֲלוּyou forgiveלִבְנֵי־אָדָםmenעַל־חַטֹּאתָםtheir trespasses,יִמְחַלwill also forgiveגַּם־לָכֶםyou:אֲבִיכֶםyourשֶׁבַּשָׁמָיִם׃heavenly Father

    For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:

15. 15

    וְאִםBut ifלֹאnotתִמְחֲלוּyou forgiveלִבְנֵיthe sons ofאָדָםmen their trespasses,גַּם־אֲבִיכֶםneither will your Fatherלֹא־יִמְחַלforgiveלְחַטֹּאתֵיכֶם׃your trespasses.

    But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

16. 16

    וְכִיMoreover whenתָצוּמוּyou fast,אַל־תִּהְיוּbe not,זֹעֲפִיםof a sad countenance:כַּחֲנֵפִיםas the hypocrites,הַמְשַׁנִּיםfor they disfigureאֶת־פְּנֵיהֶםtheir faces,לְהֵרָאוֹתthat they may appearצָמִיםto fastלִבְנֵיuntoאָדָםmen.אָמֵןVerilyאֹמֵרsayאֲנִיIלָכֶםunto you,הֵמָּהTheyנָשְׂאוּhaveאֶת־שְׂכָרָם׃their reward.

    Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

17. 17

    וְאַתָּהBut you,כִּיwhenתָצוּםyou fast,סוּךְanointאֶת־רֹאשְׁךָyour head,וּרְחַץand washאֶת־פָּנֶיךָ׃your face;

    But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face;

18. 18

    אֲשֶׁרThatלֹא־תֵרָאֶהyou appear notצָםto fastלִבְנֵיuntoאָדָםmen,כִּיbutאִםratherלְאָבִיךָunto your Fatherבַּסָּתֶרwhich is in secret:וְאָבִיךָand your Father,הָרֹאֶהwhich seethבַּמִּסְתָּרִיםin secret,הוּאhimselfבַּגָּלוּיopenly.יִגְמְלֶךָ׃shall reward you

    That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.

19. 19

    אַלnotתַּאַצְרוּLay upלָכֶםfor yourselvesאוֹצָרוֹתtreasuresבָּאָרֶץupon earth,אֲשֶׁרwhereיֹאכְלוּםdoth corrupt,שָׁםthere,סָסmothוְרָקָבand rustוְגַנָּבִיםand where thievesיַחְתְּרוּbreak throughוְגָנָבוּ׃and steal:

    Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:

20. 20

    אֲבָלButתַּאַצְרוּlay upלָכֶםfor yourselvesאוֹצָרוֹתtreasuresבַּשָׁמָיִםin heaven,אֲשֶׁרwhereסָסneither mothוְרָקָבnor rustלֹא־יֹאכְלוּםdoth corrupt,שָׁםthere,וְגַנָּבִיםand where thievesלֹאdo notיַחְתְּרוּbreak throughוְלֹאnorיִגְנֹבוּ׃steal:

    But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

21. 21

    כִּיForבִמְקוֹםwhereאֲשֶׁר־אוֹצַרְכֶםyour treasureבּוֹis,שָׁםthereיִהְיֶהwill beגַם־לְבַבְכֶם׃your heart also.

    For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

22. 22

    נרThe light ofהַגּוּףthe bodyהָעָיִןis the eye:וְאִם־עֵינְךָif therefore your eyeתְמִימָהbe single,כׇּל־גּוּפְךָyour whole bodyיֵאוֹר׃shall be full of light.

    The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.

23. 23

    וְאִם־עֵינְךָBut if your eyeרָעָהbe evil,כׇּל־גּוּפְךָyour whole bodyיֶחְשָׁךְshall be full of darkness.וְאִםIf thereforeיֶחְשַׁךְbe darkness,הָאוֹרthe lightאֲשֶׁרthat isבְּקִרְבְּךָin youמָה־רַבhow great isהַחֹשֶׁךְ׃that darkness!

    But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!

24. 24

    לֹאNoיוּכַלcanאִישׁmanלַעֲבֹדserveשְׁנֵיtwoאֲדֹנִיםmasters:כִּיfor eitherיִשְׂנָאhe will hateאֶת־הָאֶחָדthe one,וְיֶאֱהַבand loveאֶת־הָאַחֵרthe other;אוֹor elseיִדְבַּקhe will holdבְּאֶחָדto the one,וְיִבְזֶהand despiseאֶת־הָאַחֵרthe other.לֹאnotתּוּכְלוּYou canעֲבוֹדserveאֶת־הָאֱלֹהִיםGodוְאֶת־הַמָּמוֹן׃and mammon.

    No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

25. 25

    עַל־כֵּןThereforeאֹמֵרsayאֲנִיIלָכֶםunto you,אַלnoתִּדְאֲגוּTake thoughtלְנַפְשְׁכֶםfor your life,לֵאמֹרsaying,מַה־נֹּאכֵלwhat you shall eat,וּמַה־נִּשְׁתֶּהor what you shall drink;וּלְגוּפְכֶםnor yet for your body,לֵאמֹרsaying,מַה־נִּלְבָּשׁwhat you shall put on.הֲלֹאIs notהַנֶּפֶשׁthe lifeהִיאisיְקָרָהmoreמִן־הַמָּזוֹןthan meat,וְהַגּוּףand the bodyיָקָרmore,מִן־הַמַּלְבּוּשׁ׃than raiment?

    Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

26. 26

    הַבִּיטוּBeholdאֶל־עוֹףthe fowls ofהַשָּׁמַיִםthe air:וּרְאוּand behold,הֵןforלֹאnot,יִזְרְעוּthey sowוְלֹאneitherיִקְצְרוּdo they reap,וְלֹאnorיַאַסְפוּgatherלַאֲסָמִיםinto barns;וַאֲבִיכֶםyet yourשֶׁבַּשָׁמַיִםheavenly Fatherמְכַלְכֵּלfeedethאֹתָםthem.הֲלֹאAre notאַתֶּםyouנַעֲלֵיתֶםmuch betterעֲלֵיהֶםthan theyמְאֹד׃exceedingly?

    Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

27. 27

    וּמִיWhichבָכֶםof youבְּדַאֲגָתוֹby taking thoughtיוּכַלcanלְהוֹסִיףaddעַל־קוֹמָתוֹunto his statureאַמָּהּcubitאֶחָת׃one?

    Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?

28. 28

    וְלִלְבוּשׁfor raiment?לָמָּהAnd whyתִדְאָגוּtake you thoughtהִתְבּוֹנְנוּ־נָאConsiderאֶל־שׁוֹשַׁנֵּיthe lilies ofהַשָּׂדֶהthe field,הַצֹּמְחוֹתhow they grow;לֹאnot,יַעַמְלוּthey toilוְלֹאneitherיִטְווּ׃do they spin:

    And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:

29. 29

    וַאֲנִיAnd yet Iאֹמֵרsayלָכֶםunto you,כִּיThatגַם־שְׁלֹמֹהeven Solomonבְּכׇל־הֲדָרוֹin all his gloryלֹא־הָיָהwas notלָבוּשׁarrayedכְּאַחַתlike oneמֵהֵנָּה׃of these.

    And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

30. 30

    וְאִם־כָּכָהWherefore, if soמַלְבִּישׁclotheהָאֱלֹהִיםGodאֶת־חֲצִירthe grass ofהַשָּׂדֶהthe field,אֲשֶׁרwhichהַיּוֹםto dayצֹמֵחַis,וּמָחָרand to morrowיֻשְׁלַךְis castלְתוֹךְintoהַתַּנּוּרthe oven,אַףshall he not much more clotheכִּי־אֶתְכֶםyou,קְטַנֵּיO you of littleאֱמוּנָה׃faith?

    Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?

31. 31

    לָכֵןThereforeאַל־תִּדְאֲגוּtake no thought,לֵאמֹרsaying,מַה־נֹּאכַלWhat shall we eat?וּמַה־נִּשְׁתֶּהor, What shall we drink?וּמַה־נִּלְבָּשׁ׃or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?

    Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?

32. 32

    כִּיForאֶת־כׇּל־אֵלֶּהafter all these thingsמְבַקְשִׁיםdo seek:הַגּוֹיִםthe Gentilesהֲלֹאforיֹדֵעַknowethאֲבִיכֶםyour Fatherאֲשֶׁרwho isבַּשָּׁמַיִםin heavenכִּיthatצְרִיכִיםhave needאַתֶּםyouלְכׇל־אֵלֶּה׃of all these things.

    (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

33. 33

    אַךְButדִּרְשׂוּseek youבָרִאשׁוֹנָהfirstאֶת־מַלְכוּתthe kingdom ofאֱלֹהִיםGod,וְאֶת־צִדְקָתוֹand his righteousness;וְנוֹסַףand shall be addedלָכֶםunto you.כׇּל־אֵלֶּה׃all these things

    But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

34. 34

    לָכֵןthereforeאַל־תִּדְאֲגוּTake no thoughtלְיוֹםforמָחָרthe morrow:כִּיforיוֹםthe day ofמָחָרthe morrowהוּאitselfיִדְאַגshall take thoughtלוֹfor the things of itself.וְדַיָּהּSufficientלַצָּרָהunto the day is the evilבְּשַׁעְתָּה׃thereof.

    Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
