   בַּיָּמִיםbay/ya/MIMin the daysהָהֵםha/HEMthoseקָםkamaroseיוֹחָנָןYo/cha/NANJohnהַמַּטְבִּילham/Mat/BILthe Baptistוַיְהִיvay/HIand he wasקֹרֵאko/REcallingבְמִדְבַּרve/mid/BARin the wilderness ofיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudaeaלֵאמֹר׃le/MORsaying

   In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judæa,

2. 2

   שׁוּבוּSHU/vurepentכִּיkiforמַלְכוּתmal/KHUTthe kingdom ofהַשָּׁמַיִםhash/sha/MA/yimheavenקׇרְבָהkor/VAhas drawn nearלָבוֹא׃la/VOto come

   And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

   For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

   וְיוֹחָנָןve/Yo/cha/NANand Johnלְבוּשׁוֹle/vu/SHOhis clothing wasשְׂעַרse/ARhair ofגְּמַלִּיםge/mal/LIMcamelsוְאֵזוֹרve/e/ZORand a belt ofעוֹרorleatherבְּמׇתְנָיוbe/mot/NAYVon his loinsוּמַאֲכָלוֹu/ma/a/kha/LOand his food wasחֲגָבִיםcha/ga/VIMlocustsוּדְבַשׁu/de/VASHand honey ofהַיָּעַר׃hay/YA/arthe forest

   And the same John had his raiment of camel's hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey.

   וַתֵּצֵאvat/te/TSEand went outאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himיְרוּשָׁלַיִםYe/ru/sha/LA/yimJerusalemוְכׇל־יְהוּדָהve/KHOL-ye/hu/DAand all Judaeaוְכׇל־כִּכַּרve/KHOL-kik/KARand all the plain ofהַיַּרְדֵּן׃hay/Yar/DENthe Jordan

   Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judæa, and all the region round about Jordan,

   וַיִּטָּבְלוּvay/yit/ta/ve/LUand were baptizedעַל־יָדוֹal-ya/DOby his handבַּיַּרְדֵּןbay/Yar/DENin the Jordanוַיִּתְוַדּוּvay/yit/vad/DUand confessedאֶת־חַטֹּאתָם׃et-chat/to/TAMtheir sins

   And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכִּרְאוֹתוֹkir/o/TOwhen he sawרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyמִן־הַפְּרוּשִׁיםmin-Hap/pe/ru/SHIMof the Phariseesוְהַצַּדּוּקִיםve/hats/Tsad/du/KIMand the Sadduceesנִגָּשִׁיםnig/ga/SHIMcomingאֶל־טְבִילָתוֹel-te/vi/la/TOto his baptismוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merhe saidלָהֶםla/HEMto themיַלְדֵיyal/DEO offspring ofצִפְעוֹנִיםtsif/o/NIMvipersמִיmiwhoהִזְהִירhiz/HIRwarnedאֶתְכֶםet/KHEMyouלָנוּסla/NUSto fleeמִן־הַקֶּצֶףmin-hak/KE/tseffrom the wrathהֶעָתִידhe/a/TIDthat is goingלָבֹא׃la/VOto come

   But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

   לָכֵןla/KHENthereforeעֲשׂוּa/SUmakeפְרִיfe/RIfruitרָאוּיra/UYworthy ofלַתְּשׁוּבָה׃lat/te/shu/VArepentance

   Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:

   וְאַל־תַּחְשְׁבוּve/AL-tach/she/VUand do not thinkבִלְבַבְכֶםvil/vav/KHEMin your heartsלֵאמֹרle/MORto sayאַבְרָהָםAv/ra/HAMAbrahamהוּאhuisאָבִינוּa/VI/nuour fatherכִּיkiforאֲנִיa/NIIאֹמֵרo/MERsayלָכֶםla/KHEMto youכִּיkithatמִן־הָאֲבָנִיםmin-ha/a/va/NIMfrom the stonesהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseיָכוֹלya/KHOLis ableהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodלְהָקִיםle/ha/KIMto raise upבָּנִיםba/NIMsonsלְאַבְרָהָם׃le/Av/ra/HAMto Abraham

   And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

10. 10

    וּכְבָרu/khe/VARand alreadyהוּשַׂםhu/SAMhas been laidהַגַּרְזֶןhag/gar/ZENthe axeעַל־שֹׁרֶשׁal-SHO/reshat the root ofהָעֵצִיםha/e/TSIMthe treesוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdכׇל־עֵץkhol-etsevery treeאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichאֵינֶנּוּe/NEN/nudoes notעֹשֶׂהo/SEmakeפְּרִיpe/RIfruitטוֹבtovgoodיִכָּרֵתyik/ka/RETwill be cut downוְיֻשְׁלַךְve/yush/LAKHand thrownבָּאֵשׁ׃ba/ESHinto the fire

    And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

    הֵןhenbeholdאָנֹכִיa/no/KHIIטוֹבֵלto/VELbaptizeאֶתְכֶםet/KHEMyouבַּמַּיִםbam/MA/yimwith waterלַתְּשׁוּבָהlat/te/shu/VAfor repentanceוְהַבָּאve/hab/BAbut he who comesאַחֲרַיa/cha/RAYafter meחָזָקcha/ZAKis strongerמִמֶּנִּיmim/MEN/nithan Iאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoseקָטֹנְתִּיka/TON/tiI am too smallמִשְּׂאֵתmis/se/ETto carryנְעָלָיוne/a/LAYVhis sandalsוְהוּאve/HUheיִטְבֹּלyit/BOLwill baptizeאֶתְכֶםet/KHEMyouבְּרוּחַ־הַקֹּדֶשׁbe/RU/ach-hak/KO/deshwith the Holy Spiritוּבָאֵשׁ׃u/va/ESHand with fire

    I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:

    וּבְיָדוֹu/ve/ya/DOand in his handהַמִּזְרֶהham/miz/REis the winnowing forkוְזָרָהve/za/RAand he will winnowאֶת־גָּרְנוֹet-ga/re/NOhis threshing floorוְאָסַףve/a/SAFand gatherאֶת־דְּגָנוֹet-de/ga/NOhis grainאֶל־אוֹצָרוֹel-o/tsa/ROinto his storehouseוְאֶת־הַמֹּץve/ET-ham/MOTSbut the chaffיִשְׂרְפֶנּוּyis/re/fen/NUhe will burnבָאֵשׁva/ESHwith fireאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatלֹאlonotתִכְבֶּה׃tikh/BEwill be quenched

    Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.

    וַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusמִן־הַגָּלִילmin-Hag/ga/LILfrom Galileeהַיַּרְדֵּנָהhay/Yar/DE/nato the Jordanאֶל־יוֹחָנָןel-Yo/cha/NANto Johnלְהִטָּבֵלle/hit/ta/VELto be baptizedעַל־יָדוֹ׃al-ya/DOby him

    Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.

    וְיוֹחָנָןve/Yo/cha/NANbut Johnחָשַׂךְcha/SAKHrestrainedאוֹתוֹo/TOhimלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingאָנֹכִיa/no/KHIIצָרִיךְtsa/RIKHneedלְהִטָּבֵלle/hit/ta/VELto be baptizedעַל־יָדֶךָal-ya/DE/khaby youוְאַתָּהve/at/TAand youבָּאbacomeאֵלַי׃e/LAYto me

    But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?

15. 15

    וַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand answeredיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himהַנִּיחָהhan/NI/chaallowלִּיlimeעַתָּהat/TAnowכִּיkiforכֵןkhensoנָאֲוָהna/a/VAit is fittingלִשְׁנֵינוּlish/NE/nufor both of usלְמַלֵּאle/mal/LEto fulfillכׇּל־הַצְּדָקָהkol-hats/tse/da/KAall righteousnessוַיַּנַּחvay/yan/NACHand he allowedלוֹ׃lohim

    And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.

16. 16

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenנִטְבַּלnit/BALwas baptizedיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusוַיְמַהֵרvay/ma/HERand immediatelyוַיַּעַלvay/YA/alwent upמִן־הַמָּיִםmin-ham/MA/yimout of the waterוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdהַשָּׁמַיִםhash/sha/MA/yimthe heavensנִפְתְּחוּ־לוֹnif/te/CHU-lowere opened to himוַיַּרְאvay/YARand he sawאֶת־רוּחַet-RU/achthe Spirit ofאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodיוֹרֵדyo/REDdescendingכְּיוֹנָהke/yo/NAlike a doveוְנָחve/NACHand restingעָלָיו׃a/LAYVon him

    And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

17. 17

    וְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdקוֹלkola voiceמִן־הַשָּׁמַיִםmin-hash/sha/MA/yimfrom heavenאוֹמֵרo/MERsayingזֶהzethisבְּנִיbe/NIMy Sonיְדִידִיye/di/DIMy belovedאֲשֶׁר־רָצִיתִיa/SHER-ra/tsi/TIwhom I delightבּוֹ׃boin him

    And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
