   Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judæa in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,

   וַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidאַיֵּהay/YEwhere isמֶלֶךְME/lekhthe king ofהַיְּהוּדִיםhay/Ye/hu/DIMthe Jewsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoיֻלַּדyul/LADhas been bornכִּיkiforרָאִינוּra/I/nuwe sawאֶת־כּוֹכָבוֹet-ko/kha/VOhis starבַּמִּזְרָחbam/miz/RACHin the eastוַנָּבֹאvan/na/VOand we have comeלְהִשְׁתַּחֲוֹתle/hish/ta/cha/VOTto worshipלוֹ׃lohim

   Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכִּשְׁמֹעַkish/MO/awhen heardהוֹרְדוֹסHor/DOSHerodהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingאֶת־דִּבְרֵיהֶםet-div/re/HEMtheir wordsוַיֶּחֱרַדvay/ye/che/RADand was troubledהוּאhuheוְכׇל־יְרוּשָׁלַיִםve/KHOL-ye/ru/sha/LA/yimand all Jerusalemעִמּוֹ׃im/MOwith him

   When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.

   וַיַּקְהֵלvay/yak/HELand he gatheredאֶת־כׇּל־רָאשֵׁיet-kol-ra/SHEall the chiefs ofהַכֹּהֲנִיםhak/ko/ha/NIMthe priestsוְסוֹפְרֵיve/sof/REand scribes ofהָעָםha/AMthe peopleוַיִּשְׁאַלvay/yish/ALand he askedאֹתָםo/TAMthemלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingאֵיפֹהe/FOwhereיִוָּלֵדyiv/va/LEDwould be bornהַמָּשִׁיחַ׃ham/Ma/SHI/achthe Messiah

   And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.

   וַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidלוֹloto himבְּבֵית־לֶחֶםbe/VET-LE/chemin Bethlehem ofיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudaeaכִּי־כֵןki-khenfor thusכָּתוּבka/TUVit is writtenבְּיַדbe/YADby the hand ofהַנָּבִיא׃han/na/VIthe prophet

   And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judæa: for thus it is written by the prophet,

   וְאַתָּהve/at/TAand youבֵּית־לֶחֶםBet-LE/chemBethlehemאֶרֶץE/retsland ofיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahאֵינְךָe/ne/KHAyou are notצָעִירtsa/IRleastבְּאַלֻּפֵיbe/al/lu/FEamong the chiefs ofיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahכִּיkiforמִמְּךָmim/me/KHAout of youיֵצֵאye/TSEwill come outמוֹשֵׁלmo/SHELa rulerאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoיִרְעֶהyir/Ewill shepherdאֶת־עַמִּיet-am/MImy peopleיִשְׂרָאֵל׃Yis/ra/ELIsrael

   And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.

   אָזazthenקָרָאka/RAcalledהוֹרְדוֹסHor/DOSHerodלַמְּגוּשִׁיםlam/me/gu/SHIMthe magiבַּסֵּתֶרbas/SE/tersecretlyוַיַּחְקֹרvay/yach/KORand inquiredלָדַעַתla/DA/atto knowאֶת־הָעֵתet-ha/ETthe timeאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatנִרְאָהnir/Aappearedהַכּוֹכָב׃hak/ko/KHAVthe star

   Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, inquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.

8. 8

   וַיִּשְׁלָחֵםvay/yish/la/CHEMand he sent themבֵּית־לֶחֶםbet-LE/chemto Bethlehemוַיֹּאמַרvay/yo/MARand saidלְכוּle/KHUgoחִקְרוּchik/RUsearchהֵיטֵבhe/TEVdiligentlyעַל־דְּבַרal-de/VARconcerningהַנָּעַרhan/NA/arthe childוְהָיָהve/ha/YAand it shall beכִּי־תִמְצְאוּןki-tim/tse/UNwhen you findאֹתוֹo/TOhimוְהִגַּדְתֶּםve/hig/gad/TEMand tellלִיlimeוְאָבֹאָהve/a/VO/athat I may comeלְהִשְׁתַּחֲוֹת־לוֹle/hish/ta/cha/VOT-loto worship himגַּם־אָנִי׃gam-A/niI also

   And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכְּשׇׁמְעָםke/shom/AMwhen they heardאֶת־דִּבְרֵיet-div/REthe words ofהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוַיֵּלֵכוּvay/ye/LE/khuand they wentוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdהַכּוֹכָבhak/ko/KHAVthe starאֲשֶׁר־רָאוּa/SHER-ra/Uwhich they sawבַמִּזְרָחvam/miz/RACHin the eastהָלַךְha/LAKHwentלִפְנֵיהֶםlif/ne/HEMbefore themעַדaduntilאֲשֶׁר־בָּאa/SHER-bait cameוַיַּעֲמֹדvay/ya/a/MODand stoodמִמַּעַלmim/MA/alaboveלַאֲשֶׁר־הָיָהla/a/SHER-ha/YAthe place where wasשָׁםshamthereהַיָּלֶד׃hay/YA/ledthe child

   When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.

    וַיִּרְאוּvay/yir/Uand they sawאֶת־הַכּוֹכָבet-hak/ko/KHAVthe starוַיִּשְׂמְחוּvay/yis/me/CHUand they rejoicedשִׂמְחָהsim/CHAa joyגְדוֹלָהge/do/LAgreatעַד־מְאֹד׃ad-me/ODexceedingly

    When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.

11. 11

    וַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uand they cameהַבַּיְתָהhab/BAY/tainto the houseוַיִּמְצְאוּvay/yim/tse/Uand foundאֶת־הַיֶּלֶדet-hay/YE/ledthe childעִם־מִרְיָםim-Mir/YAMwith Maryאִמּוֹim/MOhis motherוַיִּפְּלוּvay/yip/pe/LUand fell downעַל־פְּנֵיהֶםal-pe/ne/HEMon their facesוַיִּשְׁתַּחֲווּ־לוֹvay/yish/ta/cha/VU-loand worshiped himוַיִּפְתְּחוּvay/yif/te/CHUand they openedאֶת־אוֹצְרוֹתָםet-ots/ro/TAMtheir treasuresוַיַּקְרִיבוּvay/yak/RI/vuand offeredלוֹloto himמַתָּנוֹתmat/ta/NOTgiftsזָהָבza/HAVgoldוּלְבוֹנָהu/le/vo/NAand frankincenseוָמֹר׃va/MORand myrrh

    And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.

    וַיִּזָּהֲרוּvay/yiz/za/ha/RUand being warnedמֵאֵתme/ETbyהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodבַחֲלוֹםva/cha/LOMin a dreamלְבִלְתִּיle/vil/TInotשׁוּבshuvto returnאֶל־הוֹרְדוֹסel-Hor/DOSto Herodוַיֵּלְכוּvay/yel/KHUand they wentבְּדֶרֶךְbe/DE/rekhby a wayאַחֵרa/CHERanotherאֶל־אַרְצָם׃el-ar/TSAMto their land

    And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.

    הֵםhemtheyהָלְכוּha/le/KHUhaving goneמִשָּׁםmish/SHAMfrom thereוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEbeholdמַלְאַךְmal/AKHthe angel ofיְהוָֹהAdonaithe LORDנִרְאָהnir/Aappearsאֶל־יוֹסֵףel-Yo/SEFto Josephבַּחֲלוֹםba/cha/LOMin a dreamלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingקוּםkumariseקַחkachand takeאֶת־הַיֶּלֶדet-hay/YE/ledthe childוְאֶת־אִמּוֹve/ET-im/MOand his motherוּבְרַח־לְךָu/ve/RACH-le/KHAand fleeמִצְרַיְמָהMits/RAY/mainto Egyptוֶהְיֵה־שָׁםveh/YE-shamand be thereעַד־אִםad-imuntilאָמַרְתִּיa/MAR/tiI tellאֵלֶיךָe/LE/khato youכִּיkiforהוֹרְדוֹסHor/DOSHerodמְבַקֵּשׁme/vak/KESHis seekingאֶת־נֶפֶשׁet-NE/feshthe life ofהַנַּעַרhan/NA/arthe childלְקַחְתָּהּ׃le/kach/TAto take it

    And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.

    וַיָּקׇםvay/YA/komand he aroseוַיִּקַּחvay/yik/KACHand tookאֶת־הַיֶּלֶדet-hay/YE/ledthe childוְאֶת־אִמּוֹve/ET-im/MOand his motherלָיְלָהLAY/laby nightוַיִּבְרַחvay/yiv/RACHand fledמִצְרָיְמָה׃Mits/RAY/mainto Egypt

    When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:

15. 15

    וַיְהִי־שָׁםvay/HI-shamand he was thereעַדaduntilמוֹתmotthe death ofהוֹרְדוֹסHor/DOSHerodלְמַלֹּאתle/mal/LOTto fulfillאֶת־דְּבַרet-de/VARthe word ofיְהוָֹהAdonaithe LORDבְּיַדbe/YADby the hand ofהַנָּבִיאhan/na/VIthe prophetלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingמִמִּצְרַיִםmim/Mits/RA/yimout of Egyptקָרָאתִיka/RA/tiI calledלִבְנִי׃liv/NIMy son

    And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.

16. 16

    וַיַּרְאvay/YARand sawהוֹרְדוֹסHor/DOSHerodכִּיkithatהֵתֵלּוּhe/tel/LUhad mockedבוֹvohimהַמְּגוּשִׁיםham/me/gu/SHIMthe magiוַיִּקְצֹףvay/yik/TSOFand was furiousמְאֹדme/ODveryוַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand sentוַיַּהֲרֹגvay/ya/ha/ROGand killedאֶת־כׇּל־הַיְלָדִיםet-kol-hay/la/DIMall the childrenאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthat wereבְּבֵית־לֶחֶםbe/VET-LE/chemin Bethlehemוּבְכׇל־גְּבוּלֶיהָu/ve/KHOL-ge/vu/LE/haand in all its bordersלְמִבֶּן־שְׁנָתַיִםle/mib/BEN-she/na/TA/yimfrom two years oldוּלְמָטָּהu/le/MAT/taand underלְפִיle/FIaccording toהָעֵתha/ETthe timeאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichחָקַרcha/KARhe had inquiredמִפִּיmip/PIfrom the mouth ofהַמְּגוּשִׁים׃ham/me/gu/SHIMthe magi

    Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men.

17. 17

    אָזazthenהוּקַםhu/KAMwas fulfilledהַנֶּאֱמָרhan/ne/e/MARwhat was spokenבְּפִיbe/FIby the mouth ofיִרְמְיָהוּYir/me/YA/huJeremiahהַנָּבִיאhan/na/VIthe prophetלֵאמֹר׃le/MORsaying

    Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying,

18. 18

    קוֹלkola voiceבְּרָמָהbe/Ra/MAin Ramaנִשְׁמָעnish/MAis heardנְהִיne/HIlamentationוּבְכִיu/ve/KHIand weepingוּמִסְפֵּדu/mis/PEDand mourningגָּדוֹלga/DOLgreatרָחֵלRa/CHELRachelמְבַכָּהme/vak/KAweepingעַל־בָּנֶיהָal-ba/NE/hafor her childrenוּמֵאֲנָהu/me/a/NAand refusedלְהִנָּחֵםle/hin/na/CHEMbe comfortedכִּיkibecauseאֵינֶנּוּ׃e/NEN/nuthey are not

    In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not.

19. 19

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterמוֹתmotthe death ofהוֹרְדוֹסHor/DOSHerodוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEbeholdמַלְאַךְmal/AKHan angel ofיְהוָֹהAdonaithe LORDנִרְאָהnir/Aappearsבַחֲלוֹםva/cha/LOMin a dreamאֶל־יוֹסֵףel-Yo/SEFto Josephבְּאֶרֶץbe/E/retsin the land ofמִצְרָיִם׃Mits/RA/yimEgypt

    But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,

20. 20

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himקוּםkumariseקַחkachand takeאֶת־הַיֶּלֶדet-hay/YE/ledthe young childוְאֶת־אִמּוֹve/ET-im/MOand his motherוְלֵךְve/LEKHand goאֶל־אֶרֶץel-E/retsinto the land ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelכִּיkiforמֵתוּME/tuhave diedהַמְבַקְּשִׁיםham/vak/ke/SHIMwho soughtאֶת־נֶפֶשׁet-NE/feshthe life ofהַיָּלֶד׃hay/YA/ledthe child

    Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child's life.

21. 21

    וַיָּקׇםvay/YA/komand he aroseוַיִּקַּחvay/yik/KACHand tookאֶת־הַיֶּלֶדet-hay/YE/ledthe childוְאֶת־אִמּוֹve/ET-im/MOand his motherוַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameאַרְצָהAR/tsainto the land ofיִשְׂרָאֵל׃Yis/ra/ELIsrael

    And he arose, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.

22. 22

    וּכְשׇׁמְעוֹu/khe/shom/Oand when he heardכִּיkithatאַרְכְלוֹסAr/khe/LOSArchelausמָלַךְma/LAKHreignedבִּיהוּדָהbI/hu/DAin JudaeaתַּחַתTA/chatin place ofהוֹרְדוֹסHor/DOSHerodאָבִיוa/VIVhis fatherוַיִּירָאvay/yi/RAhe was afraidלָלֶכֶתla/LE/khetto goשָׁמָּהSHAM/mathereוַיִּזָּהֵרvay/yiz/za/HERand being warnedמֵאֵתme/ETbyהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodבַחֲלוֹםva/cha/LOMin a dreamוַיָּסַרvay/YA/sarhe turned asideאֶל־אַרְצוֹתel-ar/TSOTinto the regions ofהַגָּלִיל׃Hag/ga/LILGalilee

    But when he heard that Archelaus did reign in Judæa in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into the parts of Galilee:

23. 23

    וַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand he cameוַיֵּשֶׁבvay/YE/shevand dweltבְּעִירbe/IRin a cityהַנִּקְרֵאתhan/nik/RETcalledנְצָרֶתNe/TSA/retNazarethלְמַלֹּאתle/mal/LOTto fulfillהַדָּבָרhad/da/VARthe wordהַנֶּאֱמָרhan/ne/e/MARspokenעַל־פִּיal-piby the mouth ofהַנְּבִיאִיםhan/ne/vi/IMthe prophetsכִּיkithatנָצְרִיNa/tse/RIa Nazareneיִקָּרֵאyik/ka/REshall be calledלוֹ׃lohe

    And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene.
