1. 1

   וַיְהִיAnd it came to pass,כְּכַלּוֹתwhen had finishedיֵשׁוּעַJesusלְדַבֵּרto speakאֵת־כׇּל־הַדְּבָרִיםall sayings,הָאֵלֶּהtheseוַיֹּאמֶרhe saidאֶל־תַּלְמִידָיו׃unto his disciples,

   And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said unto his disciples,

2. 2

   אַתֶּםYouיְדַעְתֶּםknowכִּיthatעוֹדafterיוֹמַיִםtwo daysוְהַפֶּסַחthe passoverבָּאcometh,וּבֶן־הָאָדָםand the Son of manיִמָּסֵרis betrayedלְהִצָּלֵב׃to be crucified.

   Ye know that after two days is the feast of the passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified.

   וַיִּקָּהֲלוּThen assembled togetherרָאשֵׁיthe chiefהַכֹּהֲנִיםpriests,וְהַסּוֹפְרִיםand the scribes,וְזִקְנֵיand the elders ofהָעָםthe people,אֶל־חֲצַרunto the palace ofהַכֹּהֵןthe priest,הַגָּדוֹלhighוּשְׁמוֹwho was calledקַיָּפָא׃Caiaphas,

   Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, unto the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas,

   וַיִּוָּעֲצוּAnd consultedיַחְדָּוtogetherלִתְפֹּשׂthat they might takeאֶת־יֵשׁוּעַJesusבְּעׇרְמָהby subtilty,וְלַהֲמִיתוֹ׃and kill him.

   And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtilty, and kill him.

   וַיֹּאמְרוּBut they said,אַךְ־לֹאNotבֶחָגon the feast day,פֶּן־תִּהְיֶהlest there beמְהוּמָהan uproarבָּעָם׃among the people.

   But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar among the people.

6. 6

   וַיְהִיNow whenבִּהְיוֹתwas inיֵשׁוּעַJesusבֵּית־הִינִיBethany,בְּבֵיתin the house ofשִׁמְעוֹןSimonהַמְּצֹרָע׃the leper,

   Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,

   וַתִּקְרַבThere cameאֵלָיוunto himאִשָּׁהa womanוּבְיָדָהּhavingפַּךְan alabaster box ofמִרְקַחַתointmentיְקָרָהpreciousמְאֹדvery,וַתִּצֹּקand poured itעַל־רֹאשׁוֹon his head,בַּהֲסִיבּוֹas he satלֶאֱכֹל׃at meat.

   There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat.

8. 8

   וַיִּרְאוּBut when saw it,הַתַּלְמִידִיםhis disciplesוַיִכְעֲסוּthey had indignation,וַיֹּאמְרוּsaying,עַל־מָהTo what purposeהָאִבּוּדis waste?הַזֶּה׃this

   But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste?

   כִּיForהַמִּרְקַחַתointmentהַזֹּאתthisהָיְתָהmightרְאוּיָהhave beenלְהִמָּכֵרsoldבִּמְחִירforרָבmuch,וְלָתֵתand givenלָעֲנִיִּים׃to the poor.

   For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor.

    וַיֵּדַעWhen understood it,יֵשׁוּעַJesusוַיֹּאמֶרhe saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,לָמָּהWhyתַּלְאוּtrouble youאֶת־הָאִשָּׁהthe woman?הֲלֹאforמַעֲשֶׂהa workטוֹבgoodעָשְׂתָהshe hath wroughtעִמָּדִי׃upon me.

    When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me.

11. 11

    כִּיForהָעֲנִיִּיםthe poorבְּכׇל־עֵתalwaysאִתְּכֶםyou have with you;וְאָנֹכִיbut meאֵינֶנִּיam notבְּקִרְבְּכֶםamong youבְּכׇל־עֵת׃always.

    For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always.

12. 12

    כִּיForאֲשֶׁרin thatשׇׁפְכָהshe hath pouredאֶת־הַמִּרְקַחַתointmentהַזֹּאתthisעַל־גּוּפִיon my body,לַחֲנֹטto embalmאוֹתִיme,עָשְׂתָהshe didזֹּאת׃this.

    For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial.

13. 13

    אָמֵןVerilyאֹמֵרsayאֲנִיIלָכֶםunto you,בְּכׇל־מָקוֹםWheresoeverאֲשֶׁרwhereתִּקָּרֵאshall be preachedהַבְּשׂוֹרָהgospelהַזֹּאתthisבְּכׇל־הָעוֹלָםin the whole world,גַּםthere shall alsoאֶת־אֲשֶׁרthat whichעָשְׂתָהhath doneהִיאthis womanיְסֻפַּרbe toldלְזִכָּרוֹןfor a memorialלָהּ׃of her.

    Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her.

14. 14

    וַיֵּלֶךְThen wentאֶחָדone ofמִשְּׁנֵים־הֶעָשָׂרthe twelve,וּשְׁמוֹcalledיְהוּדָהJudasאִישׁ־קְרִיּוֹתIscariot,אֶל־רָאשֵׁיunto the chiefהַכֹּהֲנִים׃priests,

    Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests,

15. 15

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd said unto them,מָה־תִּתְּנוּWhat will you giveלִיme,וְאֶמְסְרֶנּוּand I will deliver himבְיֶדְכֶםunto you?וַיִּשְׁקְלוּ־לוֹAnd they weighed unto himשְׁלֹשִׁיםthirtyכָּסֶף׃pieces of silver.

    And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.

16. 16

    וּמִן־הָעֵתAnd from timeהַהִיאthatבִּקֵּשׁhe soughtתֹּאֲנָהopportunityלִמְסֹרto betrayאוֹתוֹ׃him.

    And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.

17. 17

    וַיְהִיNowבָרִאשׁוֹןthe first dayלְחַגof the feast ofהַמַּצּוֹתunleavened breadוַיִּגְּשׁוּcameהַתַּלְמִידִיםthe disciplesאֶל־יֵשׁוּעַto Jesus,לֵאמֹרsaying unto him,אֵיפֹהWhereנָכִיןwill you that we prepareלְךָfor youלֶאֱכֹלto eatאֶת־הַפָּסַח׃the passover?

    Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover?

18. 18

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he said,לְכוּGoהָעִירָהinto the cityאֶל־פְּלֹנִיto suchאַלְמֹנִיa man,וַאֲמַרְתֶּםand sayאֵלָיוunto him,כֹּהThusאָמַרsaith,רַבֵּנוּThe MasterעִתִּיMy timeקְרוֹבָהis at hand;וּבְבֵיתְךָat your houseאֶעֱשֶׂהI will keepאֶת־הַפֶּסַחthe passoverעִם־תַּלְמִידָי׃with my disciples.

    And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples.

19. 19

    וַיַּעֲשׂוּAnd didהַתַּלְמִידִיםthe disciplesכַּאֲשֶׁרasצִוָּםhad appointed them;יֵשׁוּעַJesusוַיָּכִינוּand they made readyאֶת־הַפָּסַח׃the passover.

    And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the passover.

20. 20

    וַיְהִיNow whenבָעֶרֶבthe even was come,וַיַּסֵּבhe sat downעִם־שְׁנֵים־הֶעָשָׂר׃with the twelve.

    Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve.

21. 21

    וּבְאׇכְלָםAnd as they did eat,וַיֹּאמַרhe said,אָמֵןVerilyאֹמֵרsayאֲנִיIלָכֶםunto you,אֶחָדthat oneמִכֶּםof youיִמְסְרֵנִי׃shall betray me.

    And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.

22. 22

    וַיִּתְעַצְּבוּAnd they were sorrowfulמְאֹדexceeding,וַיָּחֵלּוּand beganאִישׁevery oneאִישׁof them,לֵאמֹרto sayלוֹunto him,הֶאָנֹכִיIs itהוּאI,אֲדֹנִי׃Lord?

    And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I?

23. 23

    וַיַּעַןAnd he answeredוַיֹּאמֶרand said,הָאִישׁHeאֲשֶׁרthatטָבַלdippethעִמִּיwith meאֶת־יָדוֹhis handבַּקְּעָרָהin the dish,הוּאthe sameיִמְסְרֵנִי׃shall betray me.

    And he answered and said, He that dippeth his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me.

24. 24

    הֵןBehold,בֶּן־הָאָדָםThe Son of manהַלוֹךְsurelyיֵלֵךְgoethכַּכָּתוּבas it is writtenעָלָיוof him:וְאוֹיbut woeלָאִישׁunto manאֲשֶׁרthatעַל־יָדוֹby whomיִמָּסֵרis betrayed!בֶּן־הָאָדָםthe Son of manטוֹבit had been goodלָאִישׁfor manהַהוּאthatשֶׁלּאif notנוֹלָד׃he had been born.

    The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born.

25. 25

    וַיַּעַןThen answeredיְהוּדָהJudas,הַמֹּסֵרwhich betrayedאוֹתוֹhim,וַיֹּאמַרand said,רַבִּיMaster,הַאֲנִיIs itהוּאI?וַיֹּאמֶרHe saidאֵלָיוunto him,אַתָּהYouאָמָרְתָּ׃hast said.

    Then Judas, which betrayed him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said.

26. 26

    וַיְהִיAndבְּאׇכְלָםas they were eating,וַיִּקַּחtookיֵשׁוּעַJesusאֶת־הַלֶּחֶםbread,וַיְבָרֶךְand blessed it,וַיִּפְרֹסand brake it,וַיִּתֵּןand gave itלַתַּלְמִידִיםto the disciples,וַיֹּאמַרand said,קְחוּTake,וְאִכְלוּeat;זֶהthisהוּאisגּוּפִי׃my body.

    And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.

27. 27

    וַיִּקַּחAnd he tookאֶת־הַכּוֹסthe cup,וַיְבָרֶךְand gave thanks,וַיִּתֵּןand gave itלָהֶםto them,וַיֹּאמַרsaying,שְׁתוּDrinkמִמֶּנָּהof itכֻּלְּכֶם׃you all;

    And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;

28. 28

    כִּיForזֶהthisהוּאisדָּמִיmy bloodדַּם־הַבְּרִיתof the testament,הַחֲדָשָׁהnewהַנִּשְׁפָּךְwhich is shedבְּעַדforרַבִּיםmanyלִסְלִיחַתfor the remission ofחֲטָאִים׃sins.

    For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

29. 29

    וַאֲנִיBut Iאֹמֵרsayלָכֶםunto you,לֹאnotאֶשְׁתֶּהI will drinkמֵעַתָּהhenceforthמִפְּרִיof fruit ofהַגֶּפֶןthe vine,הַזֶּהthisעַדuntilהַיּוֹםdayהַהוּאthatאֲשֶׁרwhenאֶשְׁתֶּהI drinkאֹתוֹitעִמָּכֶםwith youוְהוּאand itחָדָשׁnewבְּמַלְכוּתin the kingdom ofאָבִי׃my Father.

    But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.

30. 30

    וַיְהִיAnd whenאַחֲרֵיafterקׇרְאָםthey had sungאֶת־הַהַלֵּלan hymn,וַיֵּצְאוּthey went outאֶל־הַרinto the mount ofהַזֵּיתִים׃Olives.

    And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.

31. 31

    אָזThenאָמַרsaithאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,יֵשׁוּעַJesusאַתֶּםyouכֻּלְּכֶםAllתִּכָּשְׁלוּshall be offendedבִיbecause of meהַלָּיְלָהthis night:כִּיforכָתוּבit is written,אַכֶּהI will smiteאֶת־הָרֹעֶהthe shepherd,וּתְפוּצֶיןָand shall be scattered abroad.הַצֹּאן׃the sheep of the flock

    Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.

32. 32

    וְאַחֲרֵיBut afterקוּמִיI am risen again,אֵלֵךְI will goלִפְנֵיכֶםbefore youהַגָּלִילָה׃into Galilee.

    But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee.

33. 33

    וַיַּעַןAnsweredפֶּטְרוֹסPeterוַיֹּאמֶרand saidלוֹunto him,גַּםEvenכִּי־יִכָּשְׁלוּthough shall be offendedבְךָbecause of you,כֻּלָּםall menאֲנִיyet Iלֹאneverאֶכָּשֵׁלwill be offendedלְעוֹלָם׃for ever.

    Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended.

34. 34

    וַיֹּאמֶרSaidאֵלָיוunto him,יֵשׁוּעַJesusאָמֵןVerilyאֹמֵרsayאֲנִיIלְךָunto you,כִּיThatבַלַּיְלָהnight,הַזֶּהthisבְּטֶרֶםbeforeיִקְרָאcrow,הַתַּרְנְגוֹלthe cockתְּכַחֵשׁyou shall denyבִּיmeשָׁלֹשׁthreeפְּעָמִים׃times.

    Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.

35. 35

    וַיֹּאמֶרSaidאֵלָיוunto him,פֶּטְרוֹסPeterגַּםalsoאִםThoughעָלַיI shouldלָמוּתdieאִתְּךָwith you,לֹאnotאֲכַחֵשׁyet will I denyבָּךְyou.וְכֵןLikewise alsoאָמְרוּsaidגַּםalsoכׇּל־הַתַּלְמִידִים׃all the disciples.

    Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.

36. 36

    אַחֲרֵי־כֵןThenבָּאcomethאִתָּםwith themיֵשׁוּעַJesusאֶל־חָצֵרunto a placeהַנִּקְרָאcalledגַּת־שְׁמָנֵיGethsemane,וַיֹּאמֶרand saithאֶל־הַתַּלְמִידִיםunto the disciples,שְׁבוּSit youלָכֶםyourselvesפֹּהhere,עַד־אֲשֶׁרwhileאֵלֵךְI goשָׁמָּהyonderוְהִתְפַּלָּלְתִּי׃and pray.

    Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.

37. 37

    וַיִּקַּחAnd he tookאִתּוֹwith himאֶת־פֶּטְרוֹסPeterוְאֶת־שְׁנֵיand the twoבְּנֵיsons ofזַבְדָּיZebedee,וַיָּחֶלand beganלְהֵעָצֵבto be sorrowfulוְלָמוּג׃and very heavy.

    And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.

38. 38

    וַיֹּאמֶרThen saith heלָהֶםunto them,נַפְשִׁיMy soulמָרָה־לִיis exceeding sorrowful,עַד־מָוֶתeven unto death:עִמְדוּtarry youפֹהhere,וְשִׁקְדוּand watchעִמִּי׃with me.

    Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.

39. 39

    וַיֵּלֶךְAnd he wentמְעַטa littleמֵאִתָּםfrom them,וַיִּפֹּלand fellעַל־פָּנָיוon his face,וַיִּתְפַּלֵּלand prayed,לֵאמֹרsaying,אָבִיO my Father,אִם־יוּכַלif it mayלִהְיוֹתbe,תַּעֲבָר־נָאlet passמֵעָלַיfrom meהַכּוֹסcup:הַזֹּאתthisאַךְneverthelessלֹאnotכִרְצוֹנִיas I will,כִּיbutאִםratherכִּרְצוֹנֶךָ׃as you will.

    And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.

40. 40

    וַיָּבֹאAnd he comethאֶל־הַתַּלְמִידִיםunto the disciples,וַיִּמְצָאֵםand findeth themיְשֵׁנִיםasleep,וַיֹּאמֶרand saithאֶל־פֶּטְרוֹסunto Peter,הִנֵּהWhat,לֹא־הָיָהwas it notבִיכָלְתְּכֶםin your powerלִשְׁקֹדto watchעִמִּיwith meשָׁעָהhour?אֶחָת׃one

    And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?

41. 41

    שִׁקְדוּWatchוְהִתְפַּלְּלוּand pray,פֶּן־תָּבֹאוּthat you enter notלִידֵיintoנִסָּיוֹןtemptation:הֵןBehold,הָרוּחַthe spiritחֲפֵצָהindeed is willing,וְהַבָּשָׂרbut the fleshרָפֶה׃is weak.

    Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

42. 42

    וַיּוֹסֶףHe went awayלָלֶכֶת־לוֹagainשֵׁנִיתthe second time,וַיִּתְפַּלֵּלand prayed,לֵאמֹרsaying,אָבִיO my Father,אִם־לֹאif notתוּכַלmayהַכּוֹסcupהַזֹּאתthisלַעֲבֹרpass awayמֵעָלַיfrom me,בִּלְתִּיexceptאִםthatאֶשְׁתֶּהI drinkאֹתָהּit,יְהִיbe done.כִּרְצוֹנֶךָ׃your will

    He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.

43. 43

    וַיָּבֹאAnd he cameוַיִּמְצָאֵםand found themגַּםagainבַּפַּעַםthisהַזֹּאתtime,יְשֵׁנִיםasleepכִּיforעֵינֵיהֶםtheir eyesכְּבֵדוֹת׃were heavy.

    And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy.

44. 44

    וַיַּנִּיחֵםAnd he left them,וַיּוֹסֶףand went awayלָלֶכֶתagain,וַיִּתְפַּלֵּלand prayedשְׁלִישִׁיתthe third time,בְּאׇמְרוֹsayingעוֹד־הַפַּעַםagainכַּדָּבָרthe sameהַזֶּה׃words.

    And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.

45. 45

    וַיָּבֹאThen cometh heאֶל־הַתַּלְמִידִיםto his disciples,וַיֹּאמֶרand saithאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,נוּמוּSleep onעוֹדnow,וְנוּחוּand take your rest:הִנֵּהbehold,הַשָּׁעָהthe hourקְרוֹבָהis at hand,וּבֶן־הָאָדָםand the Son of manנִמְסָרis betrayedבִּידֵיinto the hands ofחַטָּאִים׃sinners.

    Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

46. 46

    קוּמוּRise,וְנֵלֵכָהlet us be going:הִנֵּהbehold,הַמֹּסֵרhe that betrayethאוֹתִיmeהֹלֵךְis at handוְקָרֵב׃and draweth near.

    Rise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand that doth betray me.

47. 47

    עוֹדֶנּוּAnd while he yetמְדַבֵּרspake,וְהִנֵּהlo,יְהוּדָהJudas,אֶחָדoneמִשְּׁנֵים־הֶעָשָׂרof the twelve,בָּאcame,וְעִמּוֹand with himהָמוֹןa multitudeרָבgreatבַּחֲרָבוֹתwith swordsוּבְמַקְלוֹתand staves,מֵאֵתfromרָאשֵׁיthe chiefהַכֹּהֲנִיםpriestsוְזִקְנֵיand elders ofהָעָם׃the people.

    And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people.

48. 48

    וְהַמֹּסֵרNow he that betrayedאֹתוֹhimנָתַןgaveלָהֶםthemאוֹתa sign,לֵאמֹרsaying,הָאִישׁWhomsoeverאֲשֶׁרwhomאֶשָׁקֵהוּI shall kiss,זֶהthat sameהוּאis he:תִּפְשׂוּהוּ׃hold him fast.

    Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he: hold him fast.

49. 49

    וּמִיָּדAnd forthwithנִגַּשׁhe cameאֶל־יֵשׁוּעַto Jesus,וַיֹּאמֶרand said,שָׁלוֹםHail,לְךָto you,רַבִּיmaster;וַיְנַשֶׁק־לוֹ׃and kissed him.

    And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, master; and kissed him.

50. 50

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd saidאֵלָיוunto him,יֵשׁוּעַJesusרֵעִיFriend,עַל־מֶהwhereforeבָאתָare you come?וַיִּגְּשׁוּThen came they,וַיִּשְׁלְחוּand laidאֶת־יְדֵיהֶםhandsבְּיֵשׁוּעַon Jesus,וַיִּתְפְּשׂוּand tookאֹתוֹ׃him.

    And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come? Then came they, and laid hands on Jesus, and took him.

51. 51

    וְהִנֵּהAnd, behold,אֶחָדoneמִן־הָאֲנָשִׁיםof themאֲשֶׁרwhich wereעִם־יֵשׁוּעַwith Jesusשָׁלַחstretched outיָדוֹhis hand,וַיִּשְׁלֹףand drewחַרְבּוֹhis sword,וַיַּךְand struckאֶת־עֶבֶדa servant ofהַכֹּהֵןthe priest's,הַגָּדוֹלhighוַיְקַצֵּץand smote offאֶת־אׇזְנוֹ׃his ear.

    And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest's, and smote off his ear.

52. 52

    וַיֹּאמֶרThen saidאֵלָיוunto him,יֵשׁוּעַJesusהָשֵׁבPut up againאֶת־חַרְבְּךָyour swordאֶל־תַּעְרָהּinto his place:כִּיforכׇּל־אֹחֲזֵיall they that takeחֶרֶבthe swordבַּחֶרֶבwith the sword.יֹאבֵדוּ׃shall perish

    Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.

53. 53

    הֲתֹאמַרThink youבְּלִבְּךָin your heartכִּיthatלֹאnotיָכֹלְתִּיI cannotלִשְׁאֹלprayעַתָּהnowמֵאֵתtoאָבִיmy Father,וִיצַוֶּה־לִיand he shall presently give meיוֹתֵרmore thanמִשְּׁנֵים־עָשָׂרtwelveלִגְיוֹנוֹתlegionsשֶׁל־מַלְאָכִים׃of angels?

    Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?

54. 54

    וְאֵיכָכָהBut howאֵפוֹאthenיִמָּלְאוּshall be fulfilled,הַכְּתוּבִיםthe scripturesכִּי־כֵןthat thusהָיֹהsurelyתִהְיֶה׃it must be?

    But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?

55. 55

    בַּשָּׁעָהIn hourהַהִיאthat sameאָמַרsaidיֵשׁוּעַJesusאֶל־הֲמוֹןto the multitudeהָעָםof the people,כְּצֵאתasעַל־פָּרִיץagainst a thiefיְצָאתֶםare you come outבַּחֲרָבוֹתwith swordsוּבְמַקְלוֹתand stavesלְתָפְשֵׂנִיfor to take me?וַאֲנִיIהָיִיתִיI wasיֹשֵׁבsittingוּמְלַמֵּדteachingבַּמִּקְדָּשׁin the temple,יוֹםdayיוֹםby day,וְלֹאandהֶחֱזַקְתֶּםyou laid no holdבִּי׃on me.

    In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me.

56. 56

    וְכׇל־זֹאתBut all thisהָיְתָהwas done,לְמַלֹּאתthat might be fulfilled.כִּתְבֵיthe scriptures ofהַנְּבִיאִיםthe prophetsאָזThenעֲזָבוּהוּforsook himהַתַּלְמִידִיםthe disciplesכֻּלָּםallוַיָּנוּסוּ׃and fled.

    But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.

57. 57

    וְהָאֲנָשִׁיםAnd theyאֲשֶׁרthatתָּפְשׂוּhad laid hold onאֶת־יֵשׁוּעַJesusהוֹלִיכֻהוּled him awayאֶל־קַיָּפָאto Caiaphasהַכֹּהֵןthe priest,הַגָּדוֹלhighאֲשֶׁרwhereנִקְהֲלוּwere assembledבְּבֵיתוֹin his house,הַסּוֹפְרִיםthe scribesוְהַזְּקֵנִים׃and the elders

    And they that had laid hold on Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled.

58. 58

    וּפֶטְרוֹסBut Peterהֹלֵךְfollowedאַחֲרָיוhimמֵרָחוֹקafar offעַדuntoלַחֲצַרthe palace ofהַכֹּהֵןthe priest,הַגָּדוֹלhighוַיָּבֹאand wentפְנִימָהwithin,וַיֵּשֶׁבand satאֵצֶלwithהַמְשָׁרֲתִיםthe servants,לִרְאוֹתto seeמַה־יִּהְיֶהwhat would beאַחֲרִיתthe end ofהַדָּבָר׃the matter.

    But Peter followed him afar off unto the high priest's palace, and went in, and sat with the servants, to see the end.

59. 59

    וְרָאשֵׁיNow the chiefהַכֹּהֲנִיםpriests,וְהַזְּקֵנִיםand elders,וְכׇל־הַסַּנְהֶדְרִיןand all the council,בִּקְשׁוּsoughtעֵדוּתwitnessשֶׁקֶרfalseבְּיֵשׁוּעַagainst Jesus,לַהֲמִיתוֹ׃to put him to death;

    Now the chief priests, and elders, and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death;

60. 60

    וְלֹאBut notמָצָאוּfound they any:וְאַףyea,כִּיthoughבָאוּcame,שָׁמָּהthereעֵדֵיwitnessesשֶׁקֶרfalseרַבִּיםmanyלֹאyetמָצָאוּfound they none.וּבָאַחֲרוֹנָהAt the lastנִגְּשׁוּcameשְׁנֵיtwoעֵדֵיwitnesses,שֶׁקֶר׃false

    But found none: yea, though many false witnesses came, yet found they none. At the last came two false witnesses,

61. 61

    וַיֹּאמְרוּAnd said,זֶהThis fellowאָמַרsaid,יֵשׁthere is powerלְאֵלinיָדִיmy handלַהֲרֹסto destroyאֶת־הֵיכַלthe temple ofהָאֱלֹהִיםGod,וְלִבְנוֹתוֹand to build itבִּשְׁלֹשֶׁתin threeיָמִים׃days.

    And said, This fellow said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.

62. 62

    וַיָּקׇםAnd arose,הַכֹּהֵןthe priestהַגָּדוֹלhighוַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֵלָיוunto him,הֲלֹאDo you notתַעֲנֶהanswerדָּבָרnothing?מַה־זֶּהwhat is it whichיָעִידוּ־בְךָwitness against you,הָאֲנָשִׁיםthe menהָאֵלֶּה׃these?

    And the high priest arose, and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?

63. 63

    וְיֵשׁוּעַBut Jesusהֶחֱרִישׁheld his peace.וַיַּעַןAnd answeredהַכֹּהֵןthe priestהַגָּדוֹלhighוַיֹּאמֶרand saidלוֹunto him,מַשְׁבִּיעֲךָI adjure youאֲנִיmyself,בֵּאלֹהִיםby God,חַיִּיםthe livingשֶׁתֹּאמַרthat you tellלָנוּusאִם־אַתָּהwhether you beהַמָּשִׁיחַthe Christ,בֶּן־הָאֱלֹהִים׃the Son of God.

    But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God.

64. 64

    וַיֹּאמֶרSaithאֵלָיוunto him,יֵשׁוּעַJesusאַתָּהYouאָמָרְתָּhast said:וַאֲנִיneverthelessאֹמֵרI sayלָכֶםunto you,מֵעַתָּהHereafterתִּרְאוּshall you seeאֶת־בֶּן־הָאָדָםthe Son of manיֹשֵׁבsittingלִימִיןon the right hand ofהַגְּבוּרָהpower,וּבָאand comingעִם־עַנְנֵיin the clouds ofהַשָּׁמָיִם׃heaven.

    Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

65. 65

    וַיִּקְרַעThen rentהַכֹּהֵןthe priestהַגָּדוֹלhighאֶת־בְּגָדָיוhis clothes,וַיֹּאמַרsaying,מְגַדֵּףblasphemethהוּאhe;וּמַה־לָּנוּwhat need have weעוֹדyet moreלְבַקֵּשׁto seekעֵדִיםwitnesses?הֲלֹאbehold,עַתָּהnowשְׁמַעְתֶּםyou have heardאֶת־גִּדּוּפוֹ׃his blasphemy.

    Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy.

66. 66

    מַה־דַּעְתְּכֶםWhat think you?וַיַּעֲנוּThey answeredוַיֹּאמְרוּand said,אִישׁ־מָוֶתguilty of deathהוּא׃is he.

    What think ye? They answered and said, He is guilty of death.

67. 67

    וַיָּרֹקּוּThen did they spitבְּפָנָיוin his face,וַיַּכֻּהוּand buffeted himבְאֶגְרוֹףwith fists;וַאֲחֵרִיםand othersהִכֻּהוּsmote himעַל־הַלֶּחִי׃with the palms of their hands,

    Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands,

68. 68

    וַיֹּאמְרוּSaying,הִנָּבֵאProphesyלָנוּunto us,הַמָּשִׁיחַyou Christ,מִיWhoהוּאisהַמַּכֶּהhe that smoteאוֹתְךָ׃you?

    Saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, Who is he that smote thee?

69. 69

    וּפֶטְרוֹסNow Peterיָשַׁבsatמִחוּץwithoutלַבַּיִתthe houseבֶּחָצֵרin the palace:וַתִּגַּשׁand cameאֵלָיוunto himשִׁפְחָהa damselאַחַתa certain,לֵאמֹרsaying,גַּם־אַתָּהYou alsoהָיִיתָwastעִם־יֵשׁוּעַwith Jesusהַגָּלִילִי׃of Galilee.

    Now Peter sat without in the palace: and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee.

70. 70

    וַיְכַחֵשׁBut he deniedבִּפְנֵיbeforeכֻלָּםthem all,לֵאמֹרsaying,לֹאnotיָדַעְתִּיI knowמָה־אַתְּwhat youאֹמָרֶת׃sayest.

    But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest.

71. 71

    וַיַּעֲבֹרAnd when he was gone outאֶל־פֶּתַחinto the entrance ofהַשַׁעַרthe gate,וַתֵּרֶאsawאוֹתוֹhim,אַחֶרֶתanother maidוַתֹּאמֶרand saidלָאֲנָשִׁיםunto themאֲשֶׁר־שָׁםthat were there,גַּם־זֶהThis fellowהָיָהwasעִם־יֵשׁוּעַalso with Jesusהַנָּצְרִי׃of Nazareth.

    And when he was gone out into the porch, another maid saw him, and said unto them that were there, This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth.

72. 72

    וַיּוֹסֶףAnd againלְכַחֵשׁhe deniedוַיִּשָּׁבַעwith an oath,לֵאמֹרsaying,לֹאnotיָדַעְתִּיI do knowאֶת־הָאִישׁ׃the man.

    And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man.

73. 73

    וּמְעַטAnd afterאַחֲרֵי־כֵןa whileוַיִּגְּשׁוּcame unto himהָעֹמְדִיםthey that stoodשָׁםthere,וַיֹּאמְרוּand saidאֶל־פֶּטְרוֹסto Peter,אֲבָלSurelyגַּם־אַתָּהyou alsoמֵהֶםart one of them;כִּיforגַם־לְשׁוֹנְךָyour speechמְגַלָּהbewrayethאוֹתְךָ׃you.

    And after a while came unto him they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee.

74. 74

    וַיָּחֶלThen began heלְהַחֲרִיםto curseאֶת־נַפְשׁוֹhimselfוּלְהִשָׁבֵעand to swear,לֵאמֹרsaying,לֹאnotיָדַעְתִּיI knowאֶת־הָאִישׁthe man.וּמִיָּדAnd immediatelyקָרָאcrew.הַתַּרְנְגוֹל׃the cock

    Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew.

75. 75

    וַיִּזְכֹּרAnd rememberedפֶּטְרוֹסPeterאֶת־דְּבַרthe word ofיֵשׁוּעַJesus,אֲשֶׁרwhichדִּבֶּרsaidאֵלָיוunto him,לֵאמֹרsaying,בְּטֶרֶםBeforeיִקְרָאcrow,הַתַּרְנְגוֹלthe cockתְּכַחֵשׁyou shall denyבִּיmeשָׁלֹשׁthreeפְּעָמִיםtimes.וַיֵּצֵאAnd he wentהַחוּצָהout,וַיְמָרֵרand weptבַּבֶּכִי׃bitterly.

    And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.
