1. 1

   אָזThenתִּדְמֶהshall be likenedמַלְכוּתthe kingdom ofהַשָּׁמַיִםheavenלְעֶשֶׂרunto tenעֲלָמוֹתvirgins,אֲשֶׁרwhichלָקְחוּtookאֶת־נֵרוֹתֵיהֶןtheir lamps,וַתֵּצֶאנָהand went forthלִקְרַאתto meetהֶחָתָן׃the bridegroom.

   Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.

2. 2

   חָמֵשׁAnd fiveמֵהֶןof themחֲכָמוֹתwere wise,וְחָמֵשׁand fiveכְּסִילוֹת׃were foolish.

   And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.

3. 3

   וַתִּקַּחְנָהThey tookהַכְּסִילוֹתthat were foolishאֶת־הַנֵּרוֹתtheir lamps,וְלֹא־לָקְחוּand took noעִמָּהֶןwith themשָׁמֶן׃oil:

   They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:

4. 4

   וְהַחֲכָמוֹתBut the wiseלָקְחוּtookשֶׁמֶןoilבִּכְלֵיהֶןin their vesselsוְאֵתwithנֵרוֹתֵיהֶן׃their lamps.

   But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.

5. 5

   וְכַאֲשֶׁרWhileאֵחַרtarriedהֶחָתָןthe bridegroomלָבוֹאto come,וַתָּנֹמְנָהthey slumberedכֻלָּןall,וַתֵּרָדַמְנָה׃and slept.

   While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.

6. 6

   וַיְהִיAndבַּחֲצוֹתat the midst ofהַלַּיְלָהthe nightוַיִּשָׁמַעthere was made,קוֹלa cryתְּרוּעָהof alarm,הִנֵּהBehold,הֶחָתָןthe bridegroomבָּאcometh;צְאֶינָהgo you outלִקְרָאתוֹ׃to meet him.

   And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.

   אָזThenהִתְעוֹרֲרוּarose,כׇּל־הָעֲלָמוֹתall virgins,הָהֵןthoseוַתֵּיטַבְנָהand trimmedאֶת־נֵרוֹתֵיהֶן׃their lamps.

   Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.

8. 8

   וַתֹּאמַרְנָהAnd saidהַכְּסִילוֹתthe foolishאֶל־הַחֲכָמוֹתunto the wise,תֵּנָּהGiveלָּנוּusמִשַׁמְנְכֶןof your oil;כִּיforיִכְבּוּare gone out.נֵרוֹתֵינוּ׃our lamps

   And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.

9. 9

   וַתַּעֲנֶינָהBut answered,הַחֲכָמוֹתthe wiseלֵאמֹרsaying,לֹאNotכֵןso;פֶּן־לֹאlest there be notיַסְפִּיקenoughלָנוּfor usוְלָכֶןand you:כִּיbutאִםratherלֵכְנָהgo youאֶל־הַמּוֹכְרִיםto them that sell,וּקְנֶינָהand buyלָכֶן׃for yourselves.

   But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.

10. 10

    וַיְהִיAnd whileהֵנָּהtheyהֹלְכוֹתwentלִקְנוֹתto buy,וְהֶחָתָןthe bridegroomבָּאcame;וַתָּבֹאנָהand went inהַנְּכֹנוֹתthey that were readyעִמּוֹwith himאֶל־הַחֲתֻנָּהto the marriage:וַתִּסָּגֵרand was shut.הַדָּלֶת׃the door

    And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.

11. 11

    וְאַחַרAfterwardבָּאוּcameגַּם־יֶתֶרalso the otherהָעֲלָמוֹתvirgins,וַתֹּאמַרְנָהsaying,אֲדֹנֵינוּLord,אֲדֹנֵינוּLord,פְּתַח־לָנוּ׃open to us.

    Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.

12. 12

    וַיַּעַןBut he answeredוַיֹּאמַרand said,אָמֵןVerilyאֹמֵרsayאֲנִיIלָכֶןunto you,לֹאnot.יָדַעְתִּיI knowאֶתְכֶן׃you

    But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.

13. 13

    לָכֵןtherefore,שְׁקֹדוּWatchכִּיforאֵינְכֶםyou are notיוֹדְעִיםknowingאֶת־הַיּוֹםneither the dayוְאֶת־הַשָּׁעָהnor the hourאֲשֶׁרwhereinיָבֹאcomethבָהּthereinבֶּן־הָאָדָם׃the Son of man

    Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.

14. 14

    כִּיForהַדָּבָרthe kingdom of heavenדֹּמֶהis asלְאִישׁa manנֹסֵעַtravelingלְמֵרָחוֹקinto a far country,אֲשֶׁרwhoקָרָאcalledאֶל־עֲבָדָיוhis own servants,וַיַּפְקֵדand deliveredבְּיָדָםunto themאֶת־רְכוּשׁוֹ׃his goods.

    For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.

15. 15

    וַיִּתֵּןAnd he gaveלָזֶהto oneחָמֵשׁfiveכִּכָּרִיםtalents,וְלָזֶהto anotherשְׁתַּיםtwo,וְלָזֶהand to anotherאֶחָתone;לְכׇל־אִישׁto every manלְפִיaccording toיְכׇלְתּוֹhis several ability;וַיְמַהֵרand straightwayוַיִּסַּעtook his journeyמִשָּׁם׃from thence.

    And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.

16. 16

    וַיֵּלֶךְThen wentהָאִישׁheהַלֹּקֵחַthat had receivedחָמֵשׁthe fiveכִּכָּרִיםtalentsוַיִּסְחַרand tradedבָּהֶןwith the same,וַיַּעַשׂand madeחָמֵשׁthem fiveכִּכָּרִיםtalentsאֲחֵרוֹת׃other.

    Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents.

17. 17

    וְכֵןAnd likewiseהַלֹּקֵחַhe that had receivedשְׁתַּיִםtwo,גַּם־הוּאhe alsoהִרְוִיחַgainedשְׁתַּיִםtwoאֲחֵרוֹת׃other.

    And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two.

18. 18

    וְלֹקֵחBut he that had receivedהָאַחַתoneהָלַךְwentוַיַּחְפֹּרand diggedבָּאֲדָמָהin the earth,וַיִּטְמֹןand hidאֶת־כֶּסֶףmoney.אֲדֹנָיו׃his lord's

    But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord's money.

19. 19

    וְאַחֲרֵיAfterיָמִיםa timeרַבִּיםlongבָּאcomethאֲדוֹנֵיthe lord ofהָעֲבָדִיםservants,הָהֵםthoseוַיַּעַשׂand makethחֶשְׁבּוֹןreckoningעִמָּהֶם׃with them.

    After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them.

20. 20

    וַיִּגַּשׁAnd so cameהַלֹּקֵחַhe that had receivedחֲמֵשׁfiveהַכִּכָּרִיםtalentsוַיָּבֵאand broughtחָמֵשׁfiveכִּכָּרִיםtalentsאֲחֵרוֹתother,וַיֹּאמַרsaying,אֲדֹנִיLord,חָמֵשׁfiveכִּכָּרִיםtalents:הִפְקַדְתָּyou deliveredבְּיָדִיunto meהִנֵּהbehold,חָמֵשׁfiveכִּכָּרִיםtalentsאֲחֵרוֹתmoreהִרְוַחְתִּיI have gainedבָהֵן׃beside them.

    And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more.

21. 21

    וַיֹּאמֶרSaidאֵלָיוunto himאֲדֹנָיוhis lord,הֱטִיבֹתָWellלַעֲשׂוֹתdone,עֶבֶדservant:טוֹבyou goodוְנֶאֱמָןand faithfulכִּיforבִמְעַטover a few things,נֶאֱמָןfaithfulהָיִיתָyou have been,וְעַל־הַרְבֵּהover many things:אַפְקִידֶךָI will make you rulerבּוֹאenter youלְשִׂמְחַתinto the joy ofאֲדֹנֶיךָ׃your lord.

    His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

22. 22

    וַיִּגַּשׁCameגַּם־לֹקֵחַalso he that had receivedהַכִּכָּרַיִםtwo talentsוַיֹּאמַרand said,אֲדֹנִיLord,כִּכָּרַיִםtwo talents:הִפְקַדְתָּyou deliveredבְיָדִיunto meהִנֵּהbehold,כִּכָּרַיִםtwo talentsאֲחֵרוֹתotherהִרְוַחְתִּיI have gainedבָהֵן׃beside them.

    He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them.

23. 23

    וַיֹּאמֶרSaidאֵלָיוunto himאֲדֹנָיוhis lord,הֱטִיבֹתָWellלַעֲשׂוֹתdone,עֶבֶדservant;טוֹבgoodוְנֶאֱמָןand faithfulבַּמִּזְעָרover a few things,נֶאֱמַןfaithfulהָיִיתָyou have been,וְעַל־הַרְבֵּהover many things:אַפְקִידֶךָI will make you rulerבּוֹאenter youלְשִׂמְחַתinto the joy ofאֲדֹנֶיךָ׃your lord.

    His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

24. 24

    וַיִּגַּשׁThen cameגַּם־הַלֹּקֵחַhe which had receivedאֶת־הַכִּכָּרtalentהָאַחַתthe oneוַיֹּאמַרand said,אֲדֹנִיLord,יְדַעְתִּיךָI knew youכִּי־אִישׁthat manקָשֶׁהan hardאַתָּהyou are,קֹצֵרreapingבַּאֲשֶׁרwhereלֹאnotזָרַעְתָּyou have sown,וְכֹנֵסand gatheringמֵאֲשֶׁרwhereלֹאnotפִזָּרְתָּ׃you have strawed:

    Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed:

25. 25

    וָאִירָאAnd I was afraid,וָאֵלֵךְand wentוָאֶטְמֹןand hidאֶת־כִּכָּרְךָyour talentבָּאֲדָמָהin the earth:וְעַתָּהlo,הֵא־לְךָthere you haveאֲשֶׁר־לָךְ׃that is yours.

    And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine.

26. 26

    וַיַּעַןAnsweredאֲדֹנָיוhis lordוַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֵלָיוunto him,הָעֶבֶדYouהָרַעwickedוְהֶעָצֵלand slothful servant,אַתָּהare you,יָדַעְתָּyou knewכִּי־קֹצֵרthat reapingאָנֹכִיam Iבַּאֲשֶׁרwhereלֹאnot,זָרַעְתִּיI sowedוְכֹנֵסand gatherמֵאֲשֶׁרwhereלֹאnotפִזָּרְתִּי׃I have strawed:

    His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed:

27. 27

    לָכֵןThereforeהָיָהit behovedעָלֶיךָyou,לָתֵתto have putאֶת־כַּסְפִּיmy moneyלַשֻׁלְחָנִיםto the exchangers,וַאֲנִיand Iבְּבוֹאִיat my comingהָיִיתִיshould haveלֹקֵחַreceivedאֵת־אֲשֶׁר־לִיmine ownוְתַרְבִּיתוֹ׃with usury.

    Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.

28. 28

    עַל־כֵּןThereforeשְׂאוּtakeמִמֶּנּוּfrom him,אֵת־הַכִּכָּרthe talentוּתְנוּand giveאֶל־הָאִישׁit unto himאֲשֶׁר־לוֹwhich hathעֶשֶׂרtenהַכִּכָּר׃talents.

    Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents.

29. 29

    כִּיForמִיunto every oneאֲשֶׁרwhichיֶשׁ־לוֹthat hathיִנָּתֶןshall be givenלוֹto him,וְיַעְדִּיףand he shall have abundance:וּמִיbut from himאֲשֶׁרthatאֵין־לוֹhath notיֻקַּחshall be taken awayמִמֶּנּוּof himגַּםevenאֵת־אֲשֶׁר־לוֹ׃that which he hath.

    For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.

30. 30

    וְאֶת־עֶבֶדAnd servantהַבְּלִיַּעַלthe unprofitableהַשְׁלִיכוּcast youאֶל־הַחֹשֶׁךְinto darkness:הַחִיצוֹןouterשָׁםthereתִּהְיֶהshall beהַיְלָלָהweepingוַחֲרֹקand gnashing ofהַשִׁנָּיִם׃teeth.

    And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

31. 31

    וְהָיָהAnd it shall beכִּיWhenיָבוֹאshall comeבֶּן־הָאָדָםthe Son of manבִּכְבוֹדוֹin his glory,וְכׇל־הַמַּלְאָכִיםand all the angelsהַקְּדֹשִׁיםholyעִמּוֹwith him,וְיָשַׁבthen shall he sitעַל־כִּסֵּאupon the throne ofכְבוֹדוֹ׃his glory:

    When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:

32. 32

    וְנֶאֶסְפוּAnd shall be gatheredלְפָנָיוbefore himכׇּל־הַגּוֹיִםall nations:וְהִפְרִידand he shall separate themבֵּינֵיהֶםone from another,כַּאֲשֶׁרasיַפְרִידdividethהָרֹעֶהa shepherdבֵּיןbetweenהַכְּבָשִׂיםthe sheepוּבֵיןandהָעַתּוּדִים׃the goats:

    And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:

33. 33

    וְהִצִּיבAnd he shall setאֶת־הַכְּבָשִׂיםthe sheepלִימִינוֹon his right hand,וְאֵתbutהָעַתּוּדִיםthe goatsלִשְׂמֹאלוֹ׃on the left.

    And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.

34. 34

    אָזThenיֹאמַרshall sayהַמֶּלֶךְthe Kingאֶל־הַנִּצָּבִיםunto themלִימִינוֹon his right hand,בֹּאוּCome,בְּרוּכֵיyou blessed ofאָבִיmy Father,וּרְשׁוּinheritאֶת־הַמַּלְכוּתthe kingdomהַמּוּכָנָהpreparedלָכֶםfor youלְמִן־הִוָּסֵדfrom the foundation ofהָעוֹלָם׃the world:

    Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

35. 35

    כִּיForרָעֵבan hungred,הָיִיתִיI wasוַתַּאֲכִילֻנִיand you gave me meat:צָמֵאthirsty,הָיִיתִיI wasוַתַּשְׁקוּנִיand you gave me drink:אֹרֵחַa stranger,הָיִיתִיI wasוַתַּאַסְפוּנִי׃and you took me in:

    For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

36. 36

    עָרוֹםNaked,וַתְּכַסּוּנִיand you clothed me:חוֹלֶהsick,וַתְּבַקְּרוּנִיand you visited me:בַּמִּשְׁמָרin prison,הָיִיתִיI wasוַתָּבֹאוּand you cameאֵלָי׃unto me.

    Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

37. 37

    וְעָנוּThen shall answer him,הַצַּדִּיקִיםthe righteousוְאָמְרוּsaying,אֲדֹנֵינוּLord,מָתַיwhenרְאִינוּךָsaw we youרָעֵבan hungred,וַנְּכַלְכְּלֶךָand fed you?אוֹorצָמֵאthirsty,וַנַּשְׁקֶהand gave drink?אוֹתְךָ׃you

    Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?

38. 38

    וּמָתַיWhenרְאִינוּךָsaw we youאֹרֵחַa stranger,וַנַּאַסְפֶךָand took you in?אוֹorעָרֹםnaked,וַנְּכַסֶּךָּ׃and clothed you?

    When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?

39. 39

    וּמָתַיOr whenרְאִינוּךָsaw we youחוֹלֶהsick,אוֹorבַּמִּשְׁמָרin prison,וַנָּבֹאand cameאֵלֶיךָ׃unto you?

    Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?

40. 40

    וְהַמֶּלֶךְAnd the Kingיַעֲנֶהshall answerוַיֹאמַרand sayאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,אָמֵןVerilyאֹמֵרsayאֲנִיIלָכֶםunto you,מַה־שֶׁעֲשִׂיתֶםInasmuch as you have done itלְאֶחָדunto oneמֵאַחַיof my brethrenהַצְּעִירִיםthe least,הָאֵלֶּהeven these,לִיunto me.עֲשִׂיתֶם׃you have done it

    And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

41. 41

    וְאָזThenיֹאמַרshall he sayגַּםalsoאֶל־הַנִּצָּבִיםunto themלִשְׂמֹאלוֹon the left hand,לְכוּDepartמֵעָלַיfrom me,אֲרוּרִיםyou cursed,אֶל־אֵשׁinto fire,עוֹלָםeverlastingהַמּוּכָנָהpreparedלַשָּׂטָןfor the devilוּלְמַלְאָכָיו׃and his angels:

    Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

42. 42

    כִּיForרָעֵבan hungred,הָיִיתִיI wasוְלֹאandהֶאֱכַלְתֶּםyou fedאוֹתִיme not:צָמֵאthirsty,הָיִיתִיI wasוְלֹאandהִשְׁקִיתֶםyou gave drinkאוֹתִי׃me not:

    For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:

43. 43

    אֹרֵחַa stranger,הָיִיתִיI wasוְלֹאandאֲסַפְתֶּםyou took inאוֹתִיme not:עָרוֹםnaked,וְלֹאandכִסִּיתֶםyou clothedאוֹתִיme not:חוֹלֶהsick,וּבַמִּשְׁמָרand in prison,וְלֹאandבִקַּרְתֶּםyou visitedאוֹתִי׃me not.

    I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.

44. 44

    וְעָנוּThen shall answer him,גַם־הֵםthey alsoוְאָמְרוּsaying,אֲדֹנֵינוּLord,מָתַיwhenרְאִינוּךָsaw we youרָעֵבan hungred,אוֹorצָמֵאathirst,אוֹorאֹרֵחַa stranger,אוֹorעָרוֹםnaked,אוֹorחוֹלֶהsick,אוֹorבַמִּשְׁמָרin prison,וְלֹאand did notשֵׁרַתְנוּךָ׃minister unto you?

    Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?

45. 45

    אָזThenיַעֲנֶהshall he answerאֹתָםthem,לֵאמֹרsaying,אָמֵןVerilyאֹמֵרsayאֲנִיIלָכֶםunto you,מַה־שֶׁלּאInasmuch asעֲשִׂיתֶםyou did it not,לְאֶחָדto oneמִן־הַצְּעִירִיםof the least ofהָאֵלֶּהthese,גַּם־לִיalso to meלֹאnotעֲשִׂיתֶם׃you did it.

    Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.

46. 46

    וְהָלְכוּAnd shall go awayאֵלֶּהtheseלְמַעֲצֵבַתinto punishment:עוֹלָםeverlastingוְהַצַּדִּיקִיםbut the righteousלְחַיֵּיinto lifeעוֹלָם׃eternal.

    And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
