   Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples,

   הַסּוֹפְרִיםhas/sof/RIMthe scribesוְהַפְּרוּשִׁיםve/hap/Pe/ru/SHIMand the Phariseesיֹשְׁבִיםyosh/VIMsitעַל־כִּסֵּאal-kis/SEon the seat ofמֹשֶׁה׃Mo/SHEMoses

   Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat:

   לָכֵןla/KHENthereforeכֹּלkolallאֲשֶׁר־יֹאמְרוּa/SHER-yo/me/RUthat they sayלָכֶםla/KHEMto youשִׁמְרוּshim/RUkeepוַעֲשׂוּva/a/SUand doרַקrakonlyהִשָּׁמְרוּhish/sha/me/RUbewareמֵעֲשׂוֹתme/a/SOTof doingכְמַעֲשֵׂיהֶםkhe/ma/a/se/HEMaccording to their deedsכִּיkiforאֹמְרִיםom/RIMsayהֵםhemtheyוְאֵינָםve/e/NAMand they do notעֹשִׂים׃o/SIMdo

   All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.

   כִּיkiforאֹסְרִיםos/RIMthey bindמַשָּׂאוֹתmas/sa/OTburdensכְּבֵדִיםke/ve/DIMheavyוְקָשִׁיםve/ka/SHIMand hardלָשֵׂאתla/SETto bearוְעֹמְסִיםve/om/SIMand load themעַל־שְׁכֶםal-she/KHEMon the shoulder ofהָאֲנָשִׁיםha/a/na/SHIMthe menוְהֵםve/HEMbut theyאֵינָםe/NAMare notרוֹצִיםro/TSIMwillingלַהֲנִיעָםla/ha/ni/AMto move themאַףafevenבְּאֶצְבָּעָם׃be/ets/ba/AMwith their finger

   For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.

   But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,

   וְאֹהֲבִיםve/o/ha/VIMand they loveלְהָסֵבle/ha/SEVto reclineרִאשֹׁנִיםri/sho/NIMfirstבַּסְּעוּדוֹתbas/se/u/DOTat the mealsוְלָשֶׁבֶתve/la/SHE/vetand to sitרִאשֹׁנִיםri/sho/NIMfirstבְּבָתֵּיbe/vat/TEin the houses ofכְנֵסֶת׃khe/NE/setassembly

   And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,

   וְשֶׁיִּשְׁאֲלוּve/shey/yish/a/LUand that askבִשְׁלוֹמָםvish/lo/MAMof their peaceבַּשְּׁוָקִיםbash/she/va/KIMin the marketsוְשֶׁיִּקְרְאוּve/shey/yik/re/Uand that callלָהֶםla/HEMthemבְּנֵיbe/NEthe sons ofהָאָדָםha/a/DAMmenרַבִּיrab/BIrabbiרַבִּי׃rab/BIrabbi

   And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.

   וְאַתֶּםve/at/TEMbut youאַל־יִקָּרֵאal-yik/ka/RElet not be calledלָכֶםla/KHEMyouרַבִּיrab/BIrabbiכִּיkiforאֶחָדe/CHADoneהוּאhuisמוֹרֵיכֶםmo/re/KHEMyour teacherהַמָּשִׁיחַham/Ma/SHI/achthe Messiahוְאַתֶּםve/at/TEMand youאַחִיםa/CHIMare brothersכֻּלְּכֶם׃kul/le/KHEMall of you

   But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.

   וְאַל־תִּקְרְאוּve/AL-tik/re/Uand do not callאָבavfatherלְאִישׁle/ISHany manמִכֶּםmik/KEMof youבָּאָרֶץba/A/retson the earthכִּיkiforאֶחָדe/CHADoneהוּאhuisאֲבִיכֶםA/vi/KHEMyour Fatherאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwho isבַּשָּׁמָיִם׃bash/sha/MA/yimin heaven

   And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.

    גַּםgamalsoאַל־יִקָּרֵאal-yik/ka/RElet not be calledלָכֶםla/KHEMyouמוֹרֶהmo/REteacherכִּיkiforמוֹרֶהmo/REteacherאֶחָדe/CHADoneלָכֶםla/KHEMyou haveהַמָּשִׁיחַ׃ham/Ma/SHI/achthe Messiah

    Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ.

11. 11

    וְהַגָּדוֹלve/hag/ga/DOLand the greatestבָּכֶםba/KHEMamong youיְהִיye/HIlet him beלָכֶםla/KHEMyourלִמְשָׁרֵת׃lim/sha/RETa minister

    But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.

12. 12

    כׇּל־הַמְרוֹמֵםkol-ham/ro/MEMwhoever exaltsאֶת־עַצְמוֹet-ats/MOhimselfיִשָּׁפֵלyish/sha/FELwill be brought lowוְהַמַּשְׁפִּילve/ham/mash/PILand whoever humblesאֶת־עַצְמוֹet-ats/MOhimselfיְרוֹמָם׃ye/ro/MAMwill be exalted

    And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.

    But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.

    Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.

    אוֹיoywoeלָכֶםla/KHEMto youהַסּוֹפְרִיםhas/sof/RIMscribesוְהַפְּרוּשִׁיםve/hap/Pe/ru/SHIMand Phariseesהַחֲנֵפִיםha/cha/ne/FIMhypocritesכִּי־סוֹבֲבִיםki-so/va/VIMfor go aroundאַתֶּםat/TEMyouבַּיָּםbay/YAMthe seaוּבַיַּבָּשָׁהu/vay/yab/ba/SHAand the dry landלְמַעַןle/MA/anin orderגַּיֵּרgay/YERto make a proselyteאִישׁisha manאֶחָדe/CHADoneוְכִיve/KHIand whenיִתְגַּיַּרyit/gay/YARhe becomes a proselyteתַּעֲשׂוּta/a/SUyou makeאוֹתוֹo/TOhimלְבֶן־גֵּיהִנֹּםle/VEN-ge/hin/NOMa son of Gehennaכִּפְלַיִםkif/LA/yimdoubleכָּכֶם׃ka/KHEMmore than you

    Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.

    אוֹיoywoeלָכֶםla/KHEMto youמַנְהִיגִיםman/hi/GIMguidesעִוְרִיםiv/RIMblindהָאֹמְרִיםha/om/RIMwho sayהַנִּשְׁבָּעhan/nish/BAwhoever swearsבַּהֵיכָלba/he/KHALby the templeאֵין־זֹאתen-zotthis is notמְאוּמָהme/U/maanythingוְהַנִּשְׁבָּעve/han/nish/BAbut whoever swearsבִּזְהַבbiz/HAVby the gold ofהַהֵיכָלha/he/KHALthe templeחַיָּב׃chay/YAVis obligated

    Woe unto you, ye blind guides, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor!

    כְּסִילִיםke/si/LIMfoolsוְעִוְרִיםve/iv/RIMand blindכִּיkiforמַה־הוּאma-huwhich isהַגָּדוֹלhag/ga/DOLgreaterאִם־הַזָּהָבim-haz/za/HAVthe goldאוֹoorהַהֵיכָלha/he/KHALthe templeהַמְקַדֵּשׁham/kad/DESHthat sanctifiesאֶת־הַזָּהָב׃et-haz/za/HAVthe gold

    Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold?

18. 18

    וַאֲמַרְתֶּםva/a/mar/TEMand you sayהַנִּשְׁבָּעhan/nish/BAwhoever swearsבַּמִּזְבֵּחַbam/miz/BE/achby the altarאֵיןenit is notמְאוּמָהme/U/maanythingוְהַנִּשְׁבָּעve/han/nish/BAbut whoever swearsבַּקָּרְבָּןbak/kar/BANby the offeringאֲשֶׁר־עָלָיוa/SHER-a/LAYVthat is on itחַיָּב׃chay/YAVis obligated

    And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty.

19. 19

    כְּסִילִיםke/si/LIMfoolsוְעִוְרִיםve/iv/RIMand blindכִּיkiforמַה־הוּאma-huwhich isהַגָּדוֹלhag/ga/DOLgreaterאִם־הַקָּרְבָּןim-hak/kor/BANthe offeringאוֹoorהַמִּזְבֵּחַham/miz/BE/achthe altarהַמְקַדֵּשׁham/kad/DESHthat sanctifiesאֶת־הַקָּרְבָּן׃et-hak/kor/BANthe offering

    Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift?

20. 20

    לָכֵןla/KHENthereforeהַנִּשְׁבָּעhan/nish/BAwhoever swearsבַּמִּזְבֵּחַbam/miz/BE/achby the altarנִשְׁבַּעnish/BAswearsבּוֹboby itוּבְכֹלu/ve/KHOLand by allאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthat isעָלָיו׃a/LAYVon it

    Whoso therefore shall swear by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon.

21. 21

    וְהַנִּשְׁבָּעve/han/nish/BAand whoever swearsבַּהֵיכָלba/he/KHALby the templeנִשְׁבַּעnish/BAswearsבּוֹboby itוּבַשּׁוֹכֵןu/vash/sho/KHENand by him who dwellsבּוֹ׃boin it

    And whoso shall swear by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein.

22. 22

    וְהַנִּשְׁבָּעve/han/nish/BAand whoever swearsבַּשָּׁמָיִםbash/sha/MA/yimby heavenנִשְׁבַּעnish/BAswearsבְּכִסֵּאbe/khis/SEby the throne ofאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodוּבַיֹּשֵׁבu/vay/yo/SHEVand by Him who sitsעָלָיו׃a/LAYVon it

    And he that shall swear by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon.

23. 23

    אוֹיoywoeלָכֶםla/KHEMfor youהַסּוֹפְרִיםhas/sof/RIMscribesוְהַפְּרוּשִׁיםve/hap/Pe/ru/SHIMand Phariseesהַחֲנֵפִיםha/cha/ne/FIMhypocritesכִּיkiforמְעַשְּׂרִיםme/as/se/RIMtitheאַתֶּםat/TEMyouאֶת־הַמִּנְתָּאet-ham/min/TAthe mintוְאֶת־הַשֶּׁבֶתve/ET-hash/SHE/vetand the dillוְאֶת־הַכַּמֹּןve/ET-hak/kam/MONand the cumminוַתַּנִּיחוּvat/tan/ni/CHUand you have leftאֵת־הַחֲמוּרוֹתet-ha/cha/mu/ROTthe weightier mattersבַּתּוֹרָהbat/to/RAof the lawאֶת־הַמִּשְׁפָּטet-ham/mish/PATjusticeוְאֶת־הַחֶסֶדve/ET-ha/CHE/sedand mercyוְאֶת־הָאֱמוּנָהve/ET-ha/e/mu/NAand faithוְהָיָהve/ha/YAand it wasלָכֶםla/KHEMyouלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTto doאֶת־אֵלֶּהet-EL/letheseוְלֹאve/LOand notלְהַנִּיחַle/han/NI/achto leaveגַּם־אֶת־אֵלֶּה׃gam-et-EL/lethese also

    Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

    מַנְהִיגִיםman/hi/GIMguidesעִוְרִיםiv/RIMblindהַמְסַנֲנִיםham/sa/na/NIMwho strain outאֵת־הַיַּתּוּשׁet-hay/yat/TUSHa gnatוּבֹלְעִיםu/vol/IMand swallowאֵת־הַגָּמָל׃et-hag/ga/MALa camel

    Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.

25. 25

    אוֹיoywoeלָכֶםla/KHEMto youהַסּוֹפְרִיםhas/sof/RIMscribesוְהַפְּרוּשִׁיםve/hap/Pe/ru/SHIMand Phariseesהַחֲנֵפִיםha/cha/ne/FIMhypocritesכִּיkiforמְטַהֲרִיםme/ta/ha/RIMcleanseאַתֶּםat/TEMyouאֶת־הַכּוֹסet-hak/KOSthe cupוְאֶת־הַקְּעָרָהve/ET-hak/ke/a/RAand the platterמִחוּץmi/CHUTSoutsideוְתוֹכָןve/to/KHANand their insideמָלֵאma/LEis full ofגָּזֵלga/ZELrobberyוְגַרְגְּרָנוּת׃ve/gar/ge/ra/NUTand gluttony

    Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.

    פָּרוּשׁPa/RUSHPhariseeעִוֵּרiv/VERblindטַהֵרta/HERcleanseבָּרִאשׁוֹנָהba/ri/sho/NAfirstאֶת־תּוֹךְet-tokhthe inside ofהַכּוֹסhak/KOSthe cupוְהַקְּעָרָהve/hak/ke/a/RAand the platterלְמַעַןle/MA/anso thatתִּטָּהֵרtit/ta/HERit may be cleanגַּם־מִחוּץ׃gam-mi/CHUTSalso outside

    Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.

    אוֹיoywoeלָכֶםla/KHEMto youהַסּוֹפְרִיםhas/sof/RIMscribesוְהַפְּרוּשִׁיםve/hap/Pe/ru/SHIMand Phariseesהַחֲנֵפִיםha/cha/ne/FIMhypocritesכִּי־דֹמִיםki-do/MIMfor are likeאַתֶּםat/TEMyouלַקְּבָרִיםlak/ke/va/RIMto gravesהַמְסֻיָּדִיםham/suy/ya/DIMwhitewashedהַנִּרְאִיםhan/nir/IMwhich appearנָאִיםna/IMbeautifulמִחוּץmi/CHUTSoutsideוְתוֹכָםve/to/KHAMand their insideמָלֵאma/LEis full ofעַצְמוֹתats/MOTthe bones ofמֵתִיםme/TIMthe deadוְכׇל־טֻמְאָה׃ve/KHOL-tum/Aand of all uncleanness

    Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.

    כָּכָהKA/khathusצַדִּיקִיםtsad/di/KIMrighteousאַתֶּםat/TEMare youלְמַרְאֵהle/mar/Eto the sight ofעֵינֵיe/NEthe eyes ofבְנֵיve/NEthe sons ofאָדָםa/DAMmenוְתוֹכֲכֶםve/to/kha/KHEMbut your insideמָלֵאma/LEis full ofחֲנֻפָּהcha/nup/PAhypocrisyוָאָוֶן׃va/A/venand iniquity

    Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

    אוֹיoywoeלָכֶםla/KHEMto youהַסּוֹפְרִיםhas/sof/RIMscribesוְהַפְּרוּשִׁיםve/hap/Pe/ru/SHIMand Phariseesהַחֲנֵפִיםha/cha/ne/FIMhypocritesכִּיkiforבּוֹנִיםbo/NIMbuildאַתֶּםat/TEMyouקִבְרֵיkiv/REthe tombs ofהַנְּבִיאִיםhan/ne/vi/IMthe prophetsוַתְּיַפּוּvat/te/yap/PUand adornאֶת־צִיּוּנֵיet-tsiy/yu/NEthe monuments ofקִבְרוֹתkiv/ROTthe graves ofהַצַּדִּיקִים׃hats/tsad/di/KIMthe righteous

    Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,

30. 30

    וַאֲמַרְתֶּםva/a/mar/TEMand you sayאִם־הָיִינוּim-ha/YI/nuif we had beenבִּימֵיbi/MEin the days ofאֲבוֹתֵינוּa/vo/TE/nuour fathersלֹא־הָיְתָהlo-ha/ye/TAwould not have beenיָדֵנוּya/DE/nuour handעִמָּהֶםim/ma/HEMwith themלִשְׁפֹּךְlish/POKHto shedדַּםdamthe blood ofהַנְּבִיאִים׃han/ne/vi/IMthe prophets

    And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.

31. 31

    וְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdאַתֶּםat/TEMyouמְעִידִיםme/i/DIMtestifyבְּעַצְמְכֶםbe/ats/me/KHEMagainst yourselvesשֶׁבָּנִיםsheb/ba/NIMthat sonsאַתֶּםat/TEMare youלְרוֹצְחֵיle/rots/CHEof the murderers ofהַנְּבִיאִים׃han/ne/vi/IMthe prophets

    Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets.

32. 32

    וּבְכֵןu/ve/KHENand soמַלְּאוּmal/le/Ufillאַתֶּםat/TEMyouסְאַתse/ATthe measure ofאֲבוֹתֵיכֶם׃a/vo/te/KHEMyour fathers

    Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.

    נְחָשִׁיםne/cha/SHIMserpentsיַלְדֵיyal/DEoffspring ofצִפְעוֹנִיםtsif/o/NIMvipersאֵיךְekhhowתִּמָּלְטוּtim/ma/le/TUwill you escapeמִדִּיןmid/DINthe judgment ofגֵּיהִנֹּם׃Ge/hin/NOMGehenna

    Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?

    Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city:

    That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.

    אָמֵןa/MENamenאֹמֵרo/MERsayאֲנִיa/NIIלָכֶםla/KHEMto youבֹּאbocomeיָבֹאya/VOwill comeכׇּל־אֵלֶּהkol-EL/leall these thingsעַל־הַדּוֹרal-had/DORon the generationהַזֶּה׃haz/ZEthis

    Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.

    יְרוּשָׁלַיִםYe/ru/sha/LA/yimO JerusalemיְרוּשָׁלַיִםYe/ru/sha/LA/yimJerusalemהַהֹרֶגֶתha/ho/RE/getwho killsאֶת־הַנְּבִיאִיםet-han/ne/vi/IMthe prophetsוְהַסֹּקֶלֶתve/has/so/KE/letand stonesאֶת־הַשְּׁלוּחִיםet-hash/she/lu/CHIMthose sentאֵלֶיהָe/LE/hato herכַּמָּהkam/MAhow manyפְּעָמִיםpe/a/MIMtimesחָפַצְתִּיcha/FATS/tiI desiredלְקַבֵּץle/kab/BETSto gatherאֶת־בָּנַיִךְet-ba/NA/yikhyour childrenכַּתַּרְנְגֹלֶתkat/tar/ne/GO/letas a henהַמְּקַבֶּצֶתham/me/kab/BE/tsetgathersאֶת־אֶפְרֹחֶיהָet-ef/ro/CHE/haher chicksתַּחַתTA/chatunderכְּנָפֶיהָke/na/fe/HAher wingsוְלֹאve/LOand notאֲבִיתֶם׃a/vi/TEMyou were willing

    O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

    הִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdבֵיתְכֶםve/te/KHEMyour houseיֵעָזֵבye/a/ZEVis leftלָכֶםla/KHEMto youשָׁמֵם׃sha/MEMdesolate

    Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.

39. 39

    כִּיkiforאֲנִיa/NIIאֹמֵרo/MERsayלָכֶםla/KHEMto youמֵעַתָּהme/at/TAfrom now onלֹאlonotתִרְאוּנִיtir/u/NIwill you see meעַדaduntilאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatתֹּאמְרוּto/me/RUyou sayבָּרוּךְba/RUKHblessed isהַבָּאhab/BAhe who comesבְּשֵׁם־יְהוָֹה׃be/SHEM-Adonaiin the name of the LORD

    For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
