1. 1

   וַיֹּסֶףAnd againיֵשׁוּעַJesusדַּבֵּרspakeאֲלֵיהֶםunto themבִּמְשָׁלִיםby parables,וַיַּעַןansweredוַיֹּאמַר׃and said,

   And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said,

2. 2

   דּוֹמָהis likeמַלְכוּתThe kingdom ofהַשָּׁמַיִםheavenלְמֶלֶךְunto a kingבָּשָׂרof fleshוָדָםand blood,אֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂהwhich madeחֲתֻנָּהa marriageלִבְנוֹ׃for his son,

   The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son,

   וַיִּשְׁלַחAnd sent forthאֶת־עֲבָדָיוhis servantsלִקְרֹאto callהַקְּרוּאִיםthem that were biddenאֶל־הַחֲתֻנָּהto the wedding:וְלֹאandאָבוּthey would notלָבוֹא׃come.

   And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come.

   וַיֹּסֶףAgainשְׁלֹחַhe sent forthעֲבָדִיםservants,אֲחֵרִיםotherלֵאמֹרsaying,אִמְרוּTellאֶל־הַקְּרוּאִיםthem which are bidden,הִנֵּהBehold,עָרַכְתִּיI have preparedאֶת־סְעוּדָתִיmy dinner:שְׁוָרַיmy oxenוּמְרִיאַיand fatlingsטְבוּחִיםare killed,וְהַכֹּלand all thingsמוּכָןare ready:בֹּאוֹcomeאֶל־הַחֲתֻנָּה׃unto the marriage.

   Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage.

   וְהֵםBut theyלֹא־שָׁתוּset notלִבָּםtheir heartלָזֹאתthereto,וַיֵּלְכוּand wentלָהֶםtheir ways,זֶהoneאֶל־שָׂדֵהוּto his farm,וְזֶהanotherאֶל־מִסְחָרוֹ׃to his merchandise:

   But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise:

   וְהַנִּשְׁאָרִיםAnd the remnantתָּפְשׂוּtookאֶת־עֲבָדָיוhis servants,וַיִּתְעַלְּלוּand entreated spitefullyבָםthem,וַיַּהַרְגוּם׃and slew them.

   And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them.

   וַיִּקְצֹףBut when heard thereof, he was wroth:הַמֶּלֶךְthe kingוַיִּשְׁלַחand he sent forthצִבְאוֹתָיוhis armies,וַיְאַבֵּדand destroyedאֶת־הַמְרַצְּחִיםmurderers,הָהֵםthoseוְאֶת־עִירָםand their cityשָׂרַףburned upבָּאֵשׁ׃with fire.

   But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.

8. 8

   אָזThenאָמַרsaith heאֶל־עֲבָדָיוto his servants,הֵןBehold,הַחֲתֻנָּהThe weddingמוּכָנָהis ready,וְהַקְּרוּאִיםbut they which were biddenלֹאnotהָיוּwereרְאוּיִםworthyלָהּ׃of it.

   Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy.

   לָכֵןthereforeלְכוּ־נָאGo youלְרָאשֵׁיunto the partings ofהַדְּרָכִיםthe ways,וְכׇל־אִישׁand as manyאֲשֶׁרasתִּמְצְאוּyou shall find,קִרְאוּbidאֶל־הַחֲתֻנָּה׃to the marriage.

   Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage.

    וַיֵּצְאוּSo went outהָעֲבָדִיםservantsהָהֵםthoseאֶל־הַדְּרָכִיםinto the highways,וַיַּאַסְפוּand gathered togetherאֶת־כֹּלallאֲשֶׁרas many asמָצְאוּthey found,גַּם־רָעִיםboth badגַּם־טוֹבִיםand good:וַיִּמָּלֵאand was furnishedבֵית־הַחֲתֻנָּהthe weddingמְסֻבִּים׃with guests.

    So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests.

    וַיְהִיAnd whenכְּבוֹאcame inהַמֶּלֶךְthe kingלִרְאוֹתto seeאֶת־הַמְסֻבִּיםthe guests,וַיַּרְאhe sawבָּהֶםthereאִישׁa manאֲשֶׁרwhichאֵינֶנּוּwho was notלָבוּשׁclothed inבִּגְדֵיa garment ofחֲתֻנָּה׃wedding:

    And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment:

12. 12

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saithאֵלָיוunto him,רֵעִיFriend,אֵיךְhowבָּאתָcame you inהֵנָּהhitherוְאֵיןnot havingעָלֶיךָon youבִּגְדֵיa garment ofחֲתֻנָּהwedding?וַיֵּאָלַם׃And he was speechless.

    And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.

13. 13

    וַיֹּאמֶרThen saidהַמֶּלֶךְthe kingלַמְשָׁרֲתִיםto the servants,אִסְרוּBindיָדָיוhandוְרַגְלָיוand foot,וּנְשָׂאתֶםand take him away,וְהִשְׁלַכְתֶּםand castאוֹתוֹhimאֶל־הַחֹשֶׁךְinto darkness;הַחִיצוֹןouterשָׁםthereתִּהְיֶהshall beהַיְלָלָהweepingוַחֲרֹקand gnashing ofהַשִׁנָּיִם׃teeth.

    Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

14. 14

    כִּיForרַבִּיםmanyהֵםareהַקְּרוּאִיםcalled,וּמְעַטִּיםbut fewהַנִּבְחָרִים׃are chosen.

    For many are called, but few are chosen.

15. 15

    וַיֵּלְכוּThen wentהַפְּרוּשִׁיםthe Pharisees,וַיִּתְיָעֲצוּand took counselאֵיךְhowיַכְשִׁילֻהוּthey might entangle himבִּדְבַרinפִּיו׃his talk.

    Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his talk.

16. 16

    וַיִּשְׁלְחוּAnd they sent outאֵלָיוunto himאֶת־תַּלְמִידֵיהֶםtheir disciplesוְעִמָּהֶםwithאַנְשֵׁיthe men ofהוֹרְדוֹסHerod,לֵאמֹרsaying,רַבִּיMaster,יָדַעְנוּwe knowכִּי־אִישׁthatאֱמֶתtrue,אַתָּהyou areוְאֶת־דֶּרֶךְand the way ofאֱלֹהִיםGodתּוֹרֶהteach youבֶאֱמֶתin truth,וְלֹאneitherתָגוּרcarest youמִפְּנֵיforאִישׁany man:כִּיforאֵינְךָyou do notמַכִּירregardפְּנֵיthe person ofאָדָם׃men.

    And they sent out unto him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men.

17. 17

    לָכֵןthereforeהַגִּידָה־נָּאTellלָנוּusמַה־דַּעְתֶּךָwhat think you?הֲמֻתָּרIs it lawfulלָתֵת־מַסto give tributeלְקֵיסַרunto Caesar,אִם־לֹא׃or not?

    Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Cæsar, or not?

18. 18

    וְיֵשׁוּעַBut Jesusיָדַעperceivedאֶת־רָעָתָםtheir wickedness,וַיֹּאמַרand said,הַחֲנֵפִיםyou hypocrites?מַה־תְּנַסּוּנִי׃Why tempt you me,

    But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites?

19. 19

    הַרְאוּנִיShew meאֶת־מַטְבֵּעַthe tributeהַמָּסmoney.וַיָּבִיאוּAnd they broughtלוֹunto himדִּינָר׃a penny.

    Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny.

20. 20

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saithאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,הַצּוּרָהimageהַזֹּאתthisוְהַמִּכְתָּבand superscriptionאֲשֶׁרwhichעָלָיוare upon it,שֶׁל־מִיwhoseהֵם׃are they?

    And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription?

21. 21

    וַיֹּאמְרוּThey sayאֵלָיוunto him,שֶׁל־קֵיסַרCaesar's.וַיֹּאמֶרThen saith heאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,לָכֵןthereforeתְּנוּRenderלְקֵיסַרunto Caesarאֵת־אֲשֶׁרthe things which areלְקֵיסַרCaesar's;וְלֵאלֹהִיםand unto Godאֵת־אֲשֶׁרthe things that areלֵאלֹהִים׃God's.

    They say unto him, Cæsar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Cæsar the things which are Cæsar's; and unto God the things that are God's.

22. 22

    וַיִּשְׁמְעוּWhen they had heard these words,וַיִּתְמָהוּthey marvelled,וַיַּנִּיחֻהוּand left him,וַיֵּלֵכוּ׃and went their way.

    When they had heard these words, they marvelled, and left him, and went their way.

23. 23

    בַּיּוֹםdayהַהוּאThe sameנִגְּשׁוּcameאֵלָיוto himצַדּוּקִיםthe Sadducees,וְהֵםwhichהָאֹמְרִיםsayאֵיןthat there is noתְּחִיַּתresurrection ofהַמֵּתִיםthe dead,וַיִּשְׁאֲלוּand askedאֹתוֹhim,לֵאמֹר׃saying,

    The same day came to him the Sadducees, which say that there is no resurrection, and asked him,

    רַבִּיMaster,הֵןBehold,מֹשֶׁהMosesאָמַרsaid,אִישׁIf a manכִּי־יָמוּתdie,וּבָנִיםhaving noאֵין־לוֹchildren,וְיִבֵּםshall marryאָחִיוhis brotherאֶת־אִשְׁתּוֹhis wife,וְהֵקִיםand raise upזֶרַעseedלְאָחִיו׃unto his brother.

    Saying, Master, Moses said, If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.

25. 25

    וְאִתָּנוּNow with usהָיוּthere wereשִׁבְעָהsevenאַחִיםbrethren:וְהָרִאשׁוֹןand the first,נָשָׂאwhen he had marriedאִשָּׁהa wife,וַיָּמׇתdeceased,וְזֶרַעand seedאֵיןthere was notלוֹto him,וַיַּעֲזֹבleftאֶת־אִשְׁתּוֹhis wifeלְאָחִיו׃unto his brother:

    Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no issue, left his wife unto his brother:

26. 26

    וּכְמוֹ־כֵןLikewiseגַּםalsoהַשֵּׁנִיthe second,וְכֵןandגַּםalsoהַשְּׁלִישִׁיthe third,עַדuntoהַשִׁבְעָה׃the seventh.

    Likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh.

27. 27

    וְאַחֲרֵיAnd last ofכֻלָּםallמֵתָהdiedגַּם־הָאִשָּׁה׃the woman also.

    And last of all the woman died also.

28. 28

    וְעַתָּהThereforeבִּתְחִיַּתin the resurrection ofהַמֵּתִיםthe dead,לְמִיwhoseמִן־הַשִׁבְעָהof the sevenתִּהְיֶהshall she beלְאִשָּׁהwife?כִּיforלְכֻלָּםthey allהָיָתָה׃had her.

    Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her.

29. 29

    וַיַּעַןAnsweredיֵשׁוּעַJesusוַיֹּאמֶרand saidלָהֶםunto them,טֹעִיםYou do err,אַתֶּםyou,בַּאֲשֶׁרin thatאֵינְכֶםyou are notיוֹדְעִיםknowingאֶת־הַכְּתוּבִיםthe scriptures,וְלֹאnorאֶת־גְּבוּרַתthe power ofהָאֱלֹהִים׃God.

    Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.

30. 30

    כִּיForבִּתְחִיַּתin the resurrection ofהַמֵּתִיםthe dead,לֹא־יִשְׂאוּthey neither takeנָשִׁיםwives,וְלֹאnorתִנָּשֶׂאנָהare given in marriage,כִּיbutיִהְיוּareכְּמַלְאֲכֵיas the angels ofאֱלֹהִיםGodבַּשָׁמָיִם׃in heaven.

    For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.

31. 31

    וְעַל־דְּבַרBut as touchingתְּחִיַּתthe resurrection ofהַמֵּתִיםthe dead,הֲלֹאhave you notקְרָאתֶםreadאֶת־הַנֶּאֱמָרthat which was spokenלָכֶםunto youמִפִּיbyהָאֱלֹהִיםGod,לֵאמֹר׃saying,

    But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying,

32. 32

    אָנֹכִיI amאֱלֹהֵיthe God ofאַבְרָהָםAbraham,וֵאלֹהֵיand the God ofיִצְחָקIsaac,וֵאלֹהֵיand the God ofיַעֲקֹבJacob?וְהוּאGodאֵינֶנּוּis notאֱלֹהֵיthe God ofהַמֵּתִיםthe dead,כִּיbutאִם־אֱלֹהֵיrather the God ofהָחַיִּים׃the living.

    I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.

33. 33

    וַיִּשְׁמַעAnd when had heard,הֲמוֹןthe multitude ofהָעָםthe peopleוַיִּשְׁתּוֹמֲמוּthey were astonishedעַל־תּוֹרָתוֹ׃at his doctrine.

    And when the multitude heard this, they were astonished at his doctrine.

34. 34

    וְהַפְּרוּשִׁיםBut when the Phariseesכְּשׇׁמְעָםhad heardכִּיthatסָכַרhe had stoppedפִּיthe mouth ofהַצַּדּוּקִיםthe Sadducees,וַיִּוָּעֲדוּthey were gatheredיַחְדָּו׃together.

    But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together.

35. 35

    וַיִּשְׁאָלֵהוּThen askedחָכָםa lawyer,אֶחָדoneמֵהֶםof them,לְנַסּוֹתוֹtempting him,לֵאמֹר׃saying,

    Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying,

36. 36

    רַבִּיMaster,אֵי־זוֹwhichהִיאisמִצְוָהthe commandmentגְּדוֹלָהgreatבַּתּוֹרָה׃in the law?

    Master, which is the great commandment in the law?

37. 37

    וַיֹּאמֶרSaidיֵשׁוּעַJesusאֵלָיוunto him,וְאָהַבְתָּYou shall loveאֵת־הָאָדוֹןthe Lordאֱלֹהֶיךָyour Godבְּכׇל־לְבָבְךָwith all your heart,וּבְכׇל־נַפְשְׁךָand with all your soul,וּבְכׇל־מַדָּעֶךָ׃and with all your mind.

    Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

38. 38

    זֹאתThisהִיאisהַמִּצְוָהthe commandmentהַגְּדוֹלָהgreatוְהָרִאשׁוֹנָה׃and first.

    This is the first and great commandment.

39. 39

    וְהַשֵׁנִיתAnd the second isדּוֹמָהlikeלָהּunto it,וְאָהַבְתָּYou shall loveלְרֵעֲךָyour neighborכָּמוֹךָ׃as thyself.

    And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

40. 40

    בִּשְׁתֵּיOn twoהַמִּצְוֹתcommandmentsהָאֵלֶּהtheseתְּלוּיָהhangכׇּל־הַתּוֹרָהall the lawוְהַנְּבִיאִים׃and the prophets.

    On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

41. 41

    וַיְהִיWhileבְּהִקָּהֵלwere gathered together,הַפְּרוּשִׁיםthe Phariseesוַיִּשְׁאָלֵםasked them,יֵשׁוּעַJesusלֵאמֹר׃saying,

    While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,

42. 42

    מַה־תֹּאמְרוּWhat think youלַמָּשִׁיחַof Christ?בֶּן־מִיwhose sonהוּאis he?וַיֹּאמְרוּThey sayאֵלָיוunto him,בֶּן־דָּוִד׃The son of David.

    Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The Son of David.

43. 43

    וַיֹּאמֶרHe saithאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,וְאֵיךְHowקָרָא־לוֹthen doth call himדָוִדDavidבָּרוּחַin the SpiritאָדוֹןLord,בְּאׇמְרוֹ׃saying,

    He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying,

44. 44

    נְאֻםSaidיְהוָֹהthe LORDלַאדֹנִיunto my Lord,שֵׁבSit youלִימִינִיon my right hand,עַד־אָשִׁיתtill I makeאֹיְבֶיךָyour enemiesהֲדֹםa stool forלְרַגְלֶיךָ׃your feet?

    The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool?

45. 45

    וְעַתָּהIfאִם־דָּוִדDavidקֹרֵאthen callלוֹhimאָדוֹןLord,אֵיךְhowהוּאis heבְּנוֹ׃his son?

    If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?

46. 46

    וְלֹא־יָכֹלAnd not ableאִישׁwas any manלַעֲנוֹתto answerאֹתוֹhimדָּבָרa word,וְלֹא־עָרַבneither durstעוֹדany moreאִישׁany manאֶת־לִבּוֹin his heartמִן־הַיּוֹםfrom the dayהַהוּאthat,לִשְׁאֹלto askאוֹתוֹ׃him any more questions.

    And no man was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.
