1. 1

   וַיְהִיAnd it came to passכַּאֲשֶׁרwhenקָרְבוּthey drew nighלִירוּשָׁלַיִםunto Jerusalem,וַיָּבֹאוּand were comeבֵית־פַּגֵיto Bethphage,אֶל־הַרunto the mount ofהַזֵּיתִיםOlives,וַיִּשְׁלַחthen sentיֵשׁוּעַJesusשְׁנַיִםtwoמִן־הַתַּלְמִידִים׃of the disciples,

   And when they drew nigh unto Jerusalem, and were come to Bethphage, unto the mount of Olives, then sent Jesus two disciples,

   וַיֹּאמֶרSayingאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,לְכוּGoאֶל־הַכְּפָרinto the villageאֲשֶׁרthat isמִמוּלְכֶםover against you,שָׁםand thereתִּמְצְאוּyou shall findאָתוֹןan assאֲסוּרָהtied,וְעַיִרand a coltעִמָּהּwith her:הַתִּירוּlooseאֹתָםthem,וַהָבִיאוּand bring themאֵלָי׃unto me.

   Saying unto them, Go into the village over against you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto me.

   וְכִי־יֹאמַרAnd if sayאִישׁany manאֲלֵיכֶםunto youדָּבָרought,וַאֲמַרְתֶּםyou shall say,הָאָדוֹןThe Lordצָרִיךְhath need ofלָהֶםthem;וּמִיָּדand straightwayיְשַׁלְּחֵם׃he will send them.

   And if any man say ought unto you, ye shall say, The Lord hath need of them; and straightway he will send them.

   וְכׇל־זֹאתAll thisהָיָתָהwas done,לְמַלֹּאתthat it might be fulfilledמַה־שֶׁנֶּאֱמַרwhich was spokenבְּיַדbyהַנָּבִיאthe prophet,לֵאמֹר׃saying,

   All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying,

   אִמְרוּTell youלְבַת־צִיּוֹןthe daughter of Sion,הִנֵּהBehold,מַלְכֵּךְyour Kingיָבוֹאcomethלָךְunto you,עָנִיmeek,וְרֹכֵבand sittingעַל־חֲמוֹרupon an ass,וְעַל־עַיִרand a coltבֶּן־אֲתֹנוֹת׃the foal of an ass.

   Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass.

   וַיֵּלְכוּAnd went,הַתַּלְמִידִיםthe disciplesוַיַּעֲשׂוּand didכַּאֲשֶׁרasצִוָּהcommandedאֹתָםthem,יֵשׁוּעַ׃Jesus

   And the disciples went, and did as Jesus commanded them,

   וַיָּבִיאוּAnd broughtאֶת־הָאָתוֹןthe ass,וְאֶת־הָעַיִרand the colt,וַיָּשִׂימוּand putעֲלֵיהֶםon themאֶת־בִּגְדֵיהֶםtheir clothes,וַיּוֹשִׁיבֻהוּand they set himעֲלֵיהֶם׃thereon.

   And brought the ass, and the colt, and put on them their clothes, and they set him thereon.

   וְרֹבAnd a very greatהֶהָמוֹןmultitudeפָּרְשׂוּspreadאֶת־בִּגְדֵיהֶםtheir garmentsעַל־הַדָּרֶךְin the way;וַאֲחֵרִיםothersכָּרְתוּcut downסְעִיפֵיbranchesעֵצִיםfrom the trees,וַיִּשְׁטָחוּםand strawed themעַל־הַדָּרֶךְ׃in the way.

   And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them in the way.

   וַהֲמוֹןAnd the multitudesהָעָםof the peopleהָהֹלְכִיםthat wentלְפָנָיוbefore him,וְאַחֲרָיוand that followed,קָרְאוּcried,לֵאמֹרsaying,הוֹשַׁע־נָאHosannaלְבֶן־דָּוִדto the Son of David:בָּרוּךְBlessed isהַבָּאhe that comethבְּשֵׁםin the name ofיְהוָֹהthe Lord;הוֹשַׁע־נָאHosannaבַּמְּרוֹמִים׃in the highest.

   And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.

    וַיְהִיAnd whenבְּבֹאוֹhe was comeיְרוּשָׁלָיִםinto Jerusalem,וַתֵּהֹםwas moved,כׇּל־הָעִירall the cityוַיֹּאמְרוּsaying,מִיWho isזֶה׃this?

    And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this?

11. 11

    וַיֹּאמְרוּAnd said,הֲמֹןthe multitude ofהָעָםthe peopleזֶהThisהוּאisהַנָּבִיאthe prophetיֵשׁוּעַJesusמִנְּצֶרֶתof Nazarethאֲשֶׁרwhich isבַּגָּלִיל׃in Galilee.

    And the multitude said, This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee.

    וַיָּבֹאAnd wentיֵשׁוּעַJesusאֶל־מִקְדַּשׁinto the temple ofהָאֱלֹהִיםGod,וַיְגָרֶשׁand cast outמִשָּׁםthenceאֵת־כׇּל־הַמּוֹכְרִיםall them that soldוְהַקּוֹנִיםand boughtבַּמִּקְדָּשׁin the temple,וַיַּהֲפֹךְand overthrewאֶת־שֻׁלְחֲנוֹתthe tables ofהַשֻׁלְחָנִיםthe moneychangers,וְאֶת־מֹשְׁבוֹתand the seats ofמֹכְרֵיthem that soldהַיּוֹנִים׃doves,

    And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves,

13. 13

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,הֵןIt isכָּתוּבwritten,כִּיthatבֵיתִיMy houseבֵּיתthe house ofתְּפִלָּהprayerיִקָּרֵאshall be called;וְאַתֶּםbut youשַׂמְתֶּםhave madeאֹתוֹitלִמְעָרַתa den ofפָּרִיצִים׃thieves.

    And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.

14. 14

    וַיִּגְּשׁוּAnd cameאֵלָיוto himעִוְרִיםthe blindוּפִסְחִיםand the lameבַּמִּקְדָּשׁin the temple;וַיִּרְפָּאֵם׃and he healed them.

    And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them.

15. 15

    וַיְהִיAnd whenכִּרְאוֹתsawרָאשֵׁיthe chiefהַכֹּהֲנִיםpriestsוְהַסּוֹפְרִיםand scribesאֵת־הַנִּפְלָאוֹתthe wonderful thingsאֲשֶׁרthatעָשָׂהhe did,וְאֵת־הַיְלָדִיםand the childrenהַצֹּעֲקִיםcryingבַּמִּקְדָּשׁin the temple,וְאֹמְרִיםand saying,הוֹשַׁע־נָאHosannaלְבֶן־דָּוִדto the Son of David;וַיִּחַרsore displeasedלָהֶם׃were they,

    And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the Son of David; they were sore displeased,

16. 16

    וַיֹּאמְרוּAnd saidאֵלָיוunto him,הֲשֹׁמֵעַHearestאַתָּהyouאֶת־אֲשֶׁרwhatאֹמְרִיםsayאֵלֶּהthese?וַיֹּאמֶרAnd saidיֵשׁוּעַJesusאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,שֹׁמֵעַYea; hearאָנֹכִיI.הֲכִיHave youלֹאneverקְרָאתֶםread,מִפִּיOut of the mouth ofעוֹלֲלִיםbabesוְיוֹנְקִיםand sucklingsכּוֹנַנְתָּyou have perfectedתְּהִלָּה׃praise?

    And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?

17. 17

    וַיַּעַזְבֵםAnd he left them,וַיֵּצֵאand went outאֶל־מִחוּץofלָעִירthe cityאֶל־בֵּית־הִינִיinto Bethany;וַיָּלֶןand he lodgedשָׁם׃there.

    And he left them, and went out of the city into Bethany; and he lodged there.

18. 18

    וּבַבֹּקֶרNow in the morningשָׁבas he returnedאֶל־הָעִירinto the city,וְהוּאheרָעֵב׃hungered.

    Now in the morning as he returned into the city, he hungered.

19. 19

    וַיַּרְאAnd when he sawתְּאֵנָהa fig treeאַחַתa certainעַל־הַדָּרֶךְin the way,וַיִּקְרַבhe cameאֵלֶיהָto it,וְלֹא־מָצָאand foundבָהּthereonמְאוּמָהnothing,בִּלְתִּיbutהֶעָלִיםleaves only,וַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֵלֶיהָunto it,מֵעַתָּהhenceforwardלֹא־יִהְיֶהlet noמִמֵּךְgrow on youפְּרִיfruitעַד־עוֹלָםfor ever.וַתִּיבַשׁAnd withered awayהַתְּאֵנָהthe fig treeפִּתְאֹם׃presently.

    And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away.

20. 20

    וַיִּרְאוּAnd when saw it,הַתַּלְמִידִיםthe disciplesוַיִּתְמְהוּthey marvelled,וַיֹּאמְרוּsaying,אֵיךְHowיָבְשָׁהis withered away!הַתְּאֵנָהthe fig treeפִּתְאֹם׃so soon!

    And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How soon is the fig tree withered away!

21. 21

    וַיַּעַןAnsweredיֵשׁוּעַJesusוַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,אָמֵןVerilyאֹמֵרsayאֲנִיIלָכֶםunto you,אִם־תִּהְיֶהIf you haveבָכֶםin youאֱמוּנָהfaith,וְלֹאandחָלַקdoubtלִבְּכֶםnot,כְּמַעֲשֵׂהyou shall not only do this which is doneהַתְּאֵנָהto the fig tree,הַזֹּאתthis,תַּעֲשׂוּshall you do,וְאַףbut alsoתֹּאמְרוּif you shall sayאֶל־הָהָרunto mountain,הַזֶּהthisהִנָּשֵׂאBe you removed,וְנֶעְתַּקְתָּand be you castאֶל־תּוֹךְintoהַיָּםthe sea;וְהָיָהit shall beכֵן׃done.

    Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.

22. 22

    וְכֹלAnd all things,אֲשֶׁרwhatsoeverתִּשְׁאֲלוּyou shall askבַּתְּפִלָּהin prayer,וְאַתֶּםyouמַאֲמִינִיםbelieving,יָבֹאit shall comeלָכֶם׃unto you.

    And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

23. 23

    וַיָּבֹאAnd when he was comeאֶל־הַמִּקְדָּשׁinto the temple,וַיְלַמֵּדas he was teachingשָׁםthere,וְרָאשֵׁיthe chiefהַכֹּהֲנִיםpriestsוְזִקְנֵיand the elders ofהָעָםthe peopleנִגְּשׁוּcameאֵלָיוunto him,וַיֹּאמְרוּand said,בְּאֵי־זוֹBy whatרְשׁוּתauthorityאַתָּהyouעֹשֶׂהdoestאֵלֶּהthese things?וּמִיand whoנָתַןgaveלְךָyouהָרְשׁוּתauthorityהַזֹּאת׃this?

    And when he was come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came unto him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority?

24. 24

    וַיַּעַןAnd answeredיֵשׁוּעַJesusוַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,גַּם־אֲנִיI alsoאֶשְׁאֲלָהwill askאֶתְכֶםyouדָּבָרthing,אֶחָדoneאֲשֶׁרwhichאִם־תַּגִּידוּif you tellאֹתוֹitלִיme,גַּם־אֲנִיI in like wiseאַגִּידwill tellלָכֶםyouבְּאֵי־זוֹby whatרְשׁוּתauthorityאֲנִיIעֹשֶׂהdoאֵלֶּה׃these things.

    And Jesus answered and said unto them, I also will ask you one thing, which if ye tell me, I in like wise will tell you by what authority I do these things.

25. 25

    טְבִילַתThe baptism ofיוֹחָנָןJohn,מֵאַיִןwhenceהָיְתָהwas it?הֲמִן־הַשָּׁמַיִםfrom heaven,אִם־מִבְּנֵיor ofאָדָםmen?וַיַּחְשְׁבוּAnd they reasonedבִלְבָבָםwith themselves,לֵאמֹרsaying,אִם־נֹאמַרIf we shall say,מִשָׁמַיִםFrom heaven;וְאָמַרhe will sayאֵלֵינוּunto us,מַדּוּעַWhyאֵפוֹאthenלֹאnotהֶאֱמַנְתֶּםdid you believeבּוֹ׃him?

    The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven, or of men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say unto us, Why did ye not then believe him?

26. 26

    וְאִם־נֹאמַרBut if we shall say,מִבְּנֵיOfאָדָםmen;יְרֵאִיםfearאֲנַחְנוּweאֶת־הֲמוֹןthe multitude ofהָעָםthe people;כִּי־כֻלָּםfor allחֹשְׁבִיםholdאֶת־יוֹחָנָןJohnלְנָבִיא׃as a prophet.

    But if we shall say, Of men; we fear the people; for all hold John as a prophet.

27. 27

    וַיַּעֲנוּAnd they answeredאֶת־יֵשׁוּעַJesus,וַיֹּאמְרוּand said,לֹאnot.יָדָעְנוּWe can tellוַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,גַּם־אֲנִיNeitherלֹאdo Iאֹמַרtellלָכֶםyouמָהby whatרְשׁוּתִיauthorityכִּיthatאֶעֱשֶׂהI doאֵלֶּה׃these things.

    And they answered Jesus, and said, We cannot tell. And he said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.

28. 28

    אֲבָלButמַה־דַּעְתְּכֶםwhat think you?אִישׁA certain manהָיָהthere wasוְלוֹand he hadשְׁנֵיtwoבָנִיםsons;וַיִּגַּשׁand he cameאֶל־הָרִאשׁוֹןto the first,וַיֹּאמֶרand said,בְּנִיSon,לֵךְgoהַיּוֹםto dayוַעֲבֹדworkבְּכַרְמִי׃in my vineyard.

    But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard.

29. 29

    וַיַּעַןHe answeredוַיֹּאמֶרand said,לֹאnotחָפַצְתִּיI will:וְאַחֲרֵי־כֵןbut afterwardנִחַםhe repented,וַיֵּלַךְ׃and went.

    He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went.

30. 30

    וַיִּגַּשׁAnd he cameאֶל־הַשֵּׁנִיto the second,וַיְדַבֵּרand saidכָּזֹאתlikewiseגַּם־אֵלָיוalso.וַיַּעַןAnd he answeredוַיֹּאמֶרand said,הִנְנִיI go,אֲדֹנִיsir:וְלֹאandהָלָךְ׃went not.

    And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not.

31. 31

    מִיWhetherמִשְׁנֵיהֶםof them twainעָשָׂהdidאֶת־רְצוֹןthe will ofאָבִיוhis father?וַיֹּאמְרוּThey sayאֵלָיוunto him,הָרִאשׁוֹןThe first.וַיֹּאמֶרSaithלָהֶםunto them,יֵשׁוּעַJesusאָמֵןVerilyאֹמֵרsayאֲנִיIלָכֶםunto you,הַמּוֹכְסִיםThat the publicansוְהַזּוֹנוֹתand the harlotsיְקַדְּמוּgo beforeאֶתְכֶםyouלָבוֹאin enteringאֶל־מַלְכוּתinto the kingdom ofהָאֱלֹהִים׃God.

    Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.

32. 32

    כִּיForיוֹחָנָןJohnבָּאcameאֲלֵיכֶםunto youבְּדֶרֶךin the way ofצְדָקָהrighteousness,וְלֹאandהֶאֱמַנְתֶּםyou believedלוֹhim not:וְהַמּוֹכְסִיםbut the publicansוְהַזּוֹנוֹתand the harlotsהֵםtheyהֶאֱמִינוּbelievedלוֹhim:וְאַתֶּםand you,רְאִיתֶםwhen you had seen it,וְלֹאandנִחַמְתֶּםrepented notאַחֲרֵי־כֵןafterward,לְהַאֲמִיןthat you might believeלוֹ׃him.

    For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.

33. 33

    שִׁמְעוּHearמָשָׁלparable:אַחֵרanotherאִישׁa certain manבַּעַל־בַּיִתhouseholder,הָיָהThere wasאֲשֶׁרwhichנָטַעplantedכֶּרֶםa vineyard,וַיַּעַשׂand madeגָּדֵרa hedgeסָבִיבround aboutלוֹit,וַיַּחְצֹבand diggedיֶקֶבa winepressוַיִּבֶןand builtמִגְדָּלa towerבְּתוֹכוֹtherein,וַיִּתְּנֵהוּand let it outאֶל־כֹּרְמִיםto husbandmen,וַיֵּלֶךְand wentבְּדֶרֶךְintoמֵרָחוֹק׃a far country:

    Hear another parable: There was a certain householder, which planted a vineyard, and hedged it round about, and digged a winepress in it, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country:

34. 34

    וַיְהִיAnd whenבְּהַגִּיעַdrew near,עֵתthe time ofהַבָּצִירthe fruitוַיִּשְׁלַחhe sentעֲבָדָיוhis servantsאֶל־הַכֹּרְמִיםto the husbandmen,לָקַחַתthat they might receiveאֶת־פִּרְיוֹ׃the fruits of it.

    And when the time of the fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, that they might receive the fruits of it.

35. 35

    וַיַּחֲזִיקוּAnd tookהַכֹּרְמִיםthe husbandmenבַּעֲבָדָיוhis servants,אֶת־זֶהone,הִכּוּand beatוְאֶת־זֶהanother,הָרְגוּand killedוְאֶת־זֶהanother,סָקָלוּ׃and stoned.

    And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another.

36. 36

    וַיּוֹסֶףAgainשְׁלֹחַhe sentעֲבָדִיםservantsאֲחֵרִיםotherרַבִּיםmoreמִן־הָרִאשׁוֹנִיםthan the first:וְגַם־לָהֶםand unto themעֲשׂוּthey didכֵן׃likewise.

    Again, he sent other servants more than the first: and they did unto them likewise.

37. 37

    וּבָאַחֲרוֹנָהBut last of allשָׁלַחhe sentאֲלֵיהֶםunto themאֶת־בְּנוֹhis son,כִּיforאָמַרhe said,מִפְּנֵיbeforeבְנִיmy sonיָגוּרוּ׃they will reverence.

    But last of all he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son.

38. 38

    וַיְהִיBut whenכִּרְאוֹתsawהַכֹּרְמִיםthe husbandmenאֶת־הַבֵּןthe son,וַיֹּאמְרוּthey saidאִישׁoneאֶל־אָחִיוto another,זֶהThisהוּאisהַיּוֹרֵשׁthe heir;לְכוּcome,וְנַהַרְגֵהוּlet us kill him,וְנֹאחֲזָהand let us seizeבְּנַחֲלָתוֹ׃on his inheritance.

    But when the husbandmen saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance.

39. 39

    וַיַּחֲזִיקוּAnd they caughtבוֹhim,וַיִּדְחָפוּהוּand castאֶל־מִחוּץoutלַכָּרֶםof the vineyard,וַיַּהַרְגוּand slewאֹתוֹ׃him.

    And they caught him, and cast him out of the vineyard, and slew him.

40. 40

    וְעַתָּהthereforeכִּי־יָבוֹאWhen comethבַּעַלthe lord ofהַכָּרֶםthe vineyard,מַה־יַּעֲשֶׂהwhat will he doלַכֹּרְמִיםunto husbandmen?הָהֵם׃those

    When the lord therefore of the vineyard cometh, what will he do unto those husbandmen?

41. 41

    וַיֹּאמְרוּThey sayאֵלָיוunto him,יָרַעHe will miserablyלָרָעִיםthose wicked men,וִיאַבְּדֵםand destroy them,וְאֶת־הַכֶּרֶםand his vineyardיִתֵּןwill let outלְכֹרְמִיםunto husbandmen,אֲחֵרִיםotherאֲשֶׁרwhichיָשִׁיבוּshall renderלוֹhimאֶת־פִּרְיוֹthe fruitsבְּעִתּוֹ׃in its season.

    They say unto him, He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and will let out his vineyard unto other husbandmen, which shall render him the fruits in their seasons.

42. 42

    וַיֹּאמֶרSaithאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,יֵשׁוּעַJesusהֲכִיDid youלֹא־קְרָאתֶםnever readבַּכְּתוּבִיםin the scriptures,אֶבֶןThe stoneמָאֲסוּrejected,הַבּוֹנִיםwhich the buildersהָיְתָהthe same is becomeלְרֹאשׁthe head ofפִּנָּהthe corner:מֵאֵתfromהָאָדוֹןthe Lordהָיְתָהisזֹּאתthis,הִיאand itנִפְלָאתis marvelousבְּעֵינֵינוּ׃in our eyes?

    Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?

43. 43

    עַל־כֵּןThereforeאֲנִיIאֹמֵרsayלָכֶםunto you,כִּי־תֻקַּחshall be takenמִכֶּםfrom you,מַלְכוּתThe kingdom ofהָאֱלֹהִיםGodוְתִסֹּבand givenלְגוֹיto a nationאֲשֶׁרwhichיַעֲשֶׂהbringing forthאֶת־פִּרְיָהּ׃the fruits thereof.

    Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.

44. 44

    וְהַנֹּפֵלAnd whosoever shall fallעַל־הָאֶבֶןon stoneהַהִיאthisיִשָׁבֵרshall be broken:וַאֲשֶׁרbut on whomsoeverתִּפֹּלit shall fallעָלָיוupon him,תִּשְׁחָקֵהוּ׃it will grind him to powder.

    And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.

45. 45

    וַיְהִיAnd whenכִּשְׁמֹעַhad heardרָאשֵׁיthe chiefהַכֹּהֲנִיםpriestsוְהַפְּרוּשִׁיםand Phariseesאֶת־מְשָׁלָיוhis parables,וַיָּבִינוּthey perceivedכִּיthatעֲלֵיהֶםof themדִּבֵּר׃he spake.

    And when the chief priests and Pharisees had heard his parables, they perceived that he spake of them.

    וַיְבַקְשׁוּBut when they soughtלְתָפְשׂוֹto lay hands on him,וַיִּירְאוּthey fearedמִפְּנֵיbecause ofרָב־הָעָםthe multitude,כִּיbecauseלְנָבִיאfor a prophet.חֲשָׁבֻהוּ׃they took him

    But when they sought to lay hands on him, they feared the multitude, because they took him for a prophet.
