1. 1

   וַיְהִיAnd it came to pass,כְּכַלּוֹתthat when had finishedיֵשׁוּעַJesusלְדַבֵּרto speakאֵת־הַדְּבָרִיםsayings,הָאֵלֶּהtheseוַיִּסַּעhe departedמִן־הַגָּלִילfrom Galilee,וַיָּבֹאand cameאֶל־גְּבוּלinto the coasts ofיְהוּדָהJudaeaבְּעֵבֶרbeyondהַיַּרְדֵּן׃Jordan;

   And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these sayings, he departed from Galilee, and came into the coasts of Judæa beyond Jordan;

2. 2

   וַיֵּלְכוּAnd followedאַחֲרָיוhim;הֲמוֹןmultitudesעַם־רָבgreatוַיִּרְפָּאֵםand he healed themשָׁם׃there.

   And great multitudes followed him; and he healed them there.

3. 3

   וַיִּגְּשׁוּalso cameאֵלָיוunto him,הַפְּרוּשִׁיםThe Phariseesלְנַסּוֹתוֹtempting him,וַיֹּאמְרוּand saying unto him,הֲיוּכַלIs it lawfulאִישׁfor a manלְשַׁלַּחto put awayאֶת־אִשְׁתּוֹhis wifeעַל־כׇּל־דָּבָר׃for every cause?

   The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?

4. 4

   וַיַּעַןAnd he answeredוַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,הֲלֹאHave you notקְרָאתֶםread,כִּיthatמֵרֹאשׁat the beginningהַיֹּצֵרhe which made themזָכָרmaleוּנְקֵבָהand female,בָּרָאmadeאֹתָם׃them

   And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,

5. 5

   וְאֹמֵרAnd said,עַל־כֵּןFor this causeיַעֲזׇב־אִישׁshall a man leaveאֶת־אָבִיוfatherוְאֶת־אִמּוֹand mother,וְדָבַקand shall cleaveבְּאִשְׁתּוֹto his wife:וְהָיוּand shall beשְׁנֵיהֶםthe two of themלְבָשָׂרfleshאֶחָד׃one.

   And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?

6. 6

   אִם־כֵּןWhereforeאֵינָםthey areעוֹדno moreשְׁנַיִםtwain,כִּיbutאִם־בָּשָׂרflesh.אֶחָדoneלָכֵןthereforeאֵת־אֲשֶׁרwhatחִבֵּרhath joined together,הָאֱלֹהִיםGodאַל־יַפְרֵדlet not put asunder.הָאָדָם׃man

   Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

7. 7

   וַיֹּאמְרוּThey sayאֵלָיוunto him,וְלָמָּהWhyזֶּהthenצִוָּהdid commandמֹשֶׁהMosesלָתֶת־לָהּto giveסֵפֶרa writingכְּרִיתֻתof divorcement,וּלְשַׁלְּחָהּ׃and to put her away?

   They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away?

8. 8

   וַיֹּאמֶרHe saithאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,מִפְּנֵיbecause ofקְשִׁיthe hardness ofלְבַבְכֶםyour heartsהִנִּיחַsufferedלָכֶםyouמֹשֶׁהMosesלְשַׁלַּחto put awayאֶת־נְשֵׁיכֶםyour wives:וּמֵרֹאשׁbut from the beginningלֹאnotהָיָהit wasהַדָּבָרthe matterכֵּן׃so.

   He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so.

9. 9

   וַאֲנִיAnd Iאֹמֵרsayלָכֶםunto you,הַמְשַׁלֵּחַWhosoever shall put awayאֶת־אִשְׁתּוֹhis wife,שֶׁלּאexcept it beעַל־דְּבַרforזְנוּתfornication,וְנֹשֵׂאand shall marryאַחֶרֶתanother,נֹאֵףcommitteth adultery:הוּאhe.וְהַנֹּשֵׂאand whoso marriethאֶת־הַגְּרוּשָׁהher which is put awayנֹאֵףdoth commit adultery.הוּא׃he.

   And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.

10. 10

    וַיֹּאמְרוּsayאֵלָיוunto him,הַתַּלְמִידִיםHis disciplesאִם־זֶהIfמִשְׁפַּטthe case ofהָאִישׁthe manאֶת־אִשְׁתּוֹbe so with his wife,לֹאnotטוֹבit is goodלָקַחַתto takeאִשָּׁה׃a wife.

    His disciples say unto him, If the case of the man be so with his wife, it is not good to marry.

11. 11

    וַיֹּאמֶרBut he saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,לֹאnotיוּכַלcanכׇּל־אָדָםAll menקַבֵּלreceiveאֶת־הַדָּבָרsaying,הַזֶּהthisכִּי־אִםsaveאֵלֶּהtheyאֲשֶׁר־נִתַּןto whom it is givenלָהֶם׃unto them.

    But he said unto them, All men cannot receive this saying, save they to whom it is given.

12. 12

    יֵשׁFor there are someסָרִיסִיםeunuchs,אֲשֶׁרwhichנוֹלְדוּwere bornכֵןsoמִבֶּטֶןfrom the wombאִמָּםtheir mother'sוְיֵשׁand there are someסָרִיסִיםeunuchs,הַמְסֹרָסִיםwhich were made eunuchsעַל־יְדֵיofאָדָםmen:וְיֵשׁand there beסָרִיסִיםeunuchs,אֲשֶׁרwhichסֵרְסוּhave made eunuchsעַצְמָםof themselvesלְמַעַןfor the sake ofמַלְכוּתthe kingdom ofהַשָׁמָיִםheaven'sמִיHe thatשֶׁיּוּכַלis ableלְקַבֵּלto receive it,יְקַבֵּל׃let him receive it.

    For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother's womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.

13. 13

    אָזThenיָבִיאוּwere there broughtאֵלָיוunto himיְלָדִיםlittle children,לְמַעַןthatיָשִׂיםhe should putעֲלֵיהֶםon themאֶת־יָדָיוhis handsוְיִתְפַּלָּלand pray:וַיִּגְעֲרוּ־בָםand rebuked them.הַתַּלְמִידִים׃the disciples

    Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them.

14. 14

    וְיֵשׁוּעַBut Jesusאָמַרsaid,הַנִּיחוּSufferלַיְלָדִיםlittle children,וְאַל־תִּמְנָעוּםand forbid them not,מִבּוֹאto comeאֵלָיunto me:כִּיforלְאֵלֶּהof such isמַלְכוּתthe kingdom ofהַשָׁמָיִם׃heaven.

    But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.

15. 15

    וַיָּשֶׂםAnd he laidאֶת־יָדָיוhis handsעֲלֵיהֶםon them,וַיַּעֲבֹרand departedמִשָּׁם׃thence.

    And he laid his hands on them, and departed thence.

16. 16

    וְהִנֵּה־אִישׁAnd, behold, oneנִגָּשׁcameאֵלָיוto himוַיֹּאמַרand said,רַבִּיMaster,הַטּוֹבGoodמַהwhatהַטּוֹבgood thingאֲשֶׁרwhichאֶעֱשֶׂהshall I do,וְאֶקְנֶהthat I may haveחַיֵּיlifeעוֹלָם׃eternal?

    And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?

17. 17

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saidאֵלָיוunto him,מָה־זֶּהWhyתִּקְרָאֵנִיcall you meטוֹבgood?אֵין־טוֹבthere is none goodכִּיsaveאִם־אֶחָדone,וְהוּאthat is,הָאֱלֹהִיםGod:וְאִם־חֶפְצְךָbut if you willלָבוֹאenterלַחַיִּיםinto life,שְׁמֹרkeepאֶת־הַמִּצְוֹת׃the commandments.

    And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

18. 18

    וַיֹּאמֶרHe saithאֵלָיוunto him,מָהWhichהֵנָּהare they?וַיֹּאמֶרsaid,יֵשׁוּעַJesusאֵלֶּהTheseהֵןare they:לֹאnoתִרְצָחYou shall do murder,לֹאnotתִנְאָףYou shall commit adultery,לֹאnotתִגְנֹבYou shall steal,לֹאnotתַעֲנֶהYou shall bearעֵדwitness,שָׁקֶר׃false

    He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,

19. 19

    כַּבֵּדHonorאֶת־אָבִיךָyour fatherוְאֶת־אִמֶּךָand your mother:וְאָהַבְתָּand, You shall loveלְרֵעֲךָyour neighborכָּמוֹךָ׃as thyself.

    Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

20. 20

    וַיֹּאמֶרsaithאֵלָיוunto him,הַבָּחוּרThe young manאֶת־כׇּל־אֵלֶּהAll these thingsשָׁמַרְתִּיhave I keptמִנְּעוּרָיfrom my youth up:וּמֶהwhatחָסַרְתִּיlack Iעוֹד׃yet?

    The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?

21. 21

    וַיֹּאמֶרsaidיֵשׁוּעַJesusאֵלָיוunto him,אִם־חֶפְצְךָIf you willלִהְיוֹתbeשָׁלֵםperfect,לֵךְgoמְכֹרand sellאֶת־רְכֻשְׁךָthat you have,וְנָתַתָּand giveלָעֲנִיִּיםto the poor,וְהָיָהand there shall beלְךָunto youאוֹצָרtreasureבַּשָׁמָיִםin heaven:וְשׁוּבand returnהֲלֹםhither,וְהָלַכְתָּand followאַחֲרָי׃me.

    Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.

22. 22

    וַיְהִיBut whenכִּשְׁמֹעַheardהַבָּחוּרthe young manאֶת־הַדָּבָרsaying,הַזֶּהthatוַיִּתְעַצֵּבhe went awayוַיֵּלַךְsorrowful:כִּיforנְכָסִיםpossessionsרַבִּיםgreatהָיוּhe hadלוֹ׃to him.

    But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.

23. 23

    וַיֹּאמֶרThen saidיֵשׁוּעַJesusאֶל־תַּלְמִידָיוunto his disciples,אָמֵןVerilyאֹמֵרsayאֲנִיIלָכֶםunto you,קָשֶׁהThat hardlyלֶעָשִׁירa rich manלָבוֹאshall enterאֶל־מַלְכוּתinto the kingdom ofהַשָׁמָיִם׃heaven.

    Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.

24. 24

    וְעוֹדAnd againאֲנִיIאֹמֵרsayלָכֶםunto you,נָקֵלIt is easierלַגָּמָלfor a camelלַעֲבֹרto go throughבְּנֶקֶבthe eye ofהַמַּחַטa needle,מִבֹּאthan for to enterעָשִׁירa rich manאֶל־מַלְכוּתinto the kingdom ofהָאֱלֹהִים׃God.

    And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

25. 25

    וְהַתַּלְמִידִיםWhen his disciplesכְּשׇׁמְעָםheardזֹאתthis,הִשְׁתּוֹמֲמוּthey were amazedמְאֹדexceedingly,וַיֹּאמְרוּsaying,מִיWhoאֵפוֹאthenיוּכַלcanלְהִוָּשֵׁעַ׃be saved?

    When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved?

26. 26

    וַיַּבֶּט־בָּםBut beheld them,יֵשׁוּעַJesusוַיֹּאמֶרand saidלָהֶםunto them,מִבְּנֵיWithאָדָםmenיִפָּלֵאis impossibleהַדָּבָרthis thing;וּמֵהָאֱלֹהִיםbut with Godלֹאnotיִפָּלֵאimpossible:כׇל־דָּבָר׃all things are

    But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

27. 27

    וַיַּעַןThen answeredפֶּטְרוֹסPeterוַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֵלָיוunto him,הֵןBehold,אֲנַחְנוּweעָזַבְנוּhave forsakenאֶת־הַכֹּלall,וַנֵּלֶךְand followedאַחֲרֶיךָyou;וּמַה־יִּהְיֶהwhat shallחֶלְקֵנוּ׃we have therefore?

    Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore?

28. 28

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd saidיֵשׁוּעַJesusאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,אָמֵןVerilyאֹמֵרsayאֲנִיIלָכֶםunto you,אַתֶּםThat youהַהֹלְכִיםwhich have followedאַחֲרָיme,בְּהִתְחַדֵּשׁin the renewingהַבְּרִיאָהof the creation,כַּאֲשֶׁרwhenיֵשֵׁבshall sitבֶּן־הָאָדָםthe Son of manעַל־כִּסֵּאin the throne ofכְבוֹדוֹhis glory,גַּם־אַתֶּםyou alsoתֵּשְׁבוּshall sitעַל־שְׁנֵים־עָשָׂרupon twelveכִּסְאוֹתthrones,לִשְׁפֹּטjudgingאֶת־שְׁנֵים־עָשָׂרthe twelveשִׁבְטֵיtribes ofיִשְׂרָאֵל׃Israel.

    And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

29. 29

    וְכׇל־אִישׁAnd every oneאֲשֶׁרthatעָזַבhath forsakenבָּתִּיםhouses,וְאַחִיםor brethren,וַאֲחָיוֹתor sisters,וְאָבor father,וָאֵםor mother,וְאֵשֶׁתor wife,וּבָנִיםor children,וְשָׂדוֹתor lands,לְמַעַןforשְׁמִיmy name's sake,הוּאheיִקַּחshall receiveמֵאָהan hundredשְׁעָרִיםfold,וְחַיֵּיand lifeעוֹלָםeverlastingיִירָשׁ׃shall inherit.

    And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.

30. 30

    וְאוּלָםButרַבִּיםmanyמִן־הָרִאשׁוֹנִיםthat are firstיִהְיוּshall beאַחֲרוֹנִיםlast;וּמִן־הָאַחֲרוֹנִיםand the lastרִאשׁוֹנִים׃shall be first.

    But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.
