    וּמִקֵּץAnd afterשֵׁשֶׁתsixיָמִיםdaysלָקַחtakethלוֹunto himselfיֵשׁוּעַJesusאֶת־פֶּטְרוֹסPeter,וְאֶת־יַעֲקֹבJames,וְאֶת־יוֹחָנָןand Johnאָחִיוhis brother,וַיַּעֲלֵםand bringeth them upבָּדָדapart,עַל־הַרinto a mountainגָּבוֹהַּ׃high

    And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart,

    וַיֵּהָפֵךְAnd was transfiguredלְעֵינֵיהֶםbefore them:וַיַּזְהִירוּand did shineפָנָיוhis faceכַּשֶׁמֶשׁas the sun,וּבְגָדָיוand his raimentכָּאוֹרas the light.הִלְבִּינוּ׃was white

    And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.

    וְהִנֵּהAnd, behold,נִרְאוּthere appearedאֲלֵיהֶםunto themמֹשֶׁהMosesוְאֵלִיָּסand Eliasוְהֵםand they wereמִדַּבְּרִיםtalkingאִתּוֹ׃with him.

    And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.

    וַיַּעַןThen answeredפֶּטְרוֹסPeter,וַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֶל־יֵשׁוּעַunto Jesus,אֲדֹנִיLord,טוֹבit is goodלָנוּfor usלִהְיוֹתto beפֹּהhere:אִם־טוֹבif it be goodבְּעֵינֶיךָin your eyes,נַעֲשֶׂהlet us makeפֹּהhereשָׁלשֹׁthreeסֻכּוֹתtabernacles;לְךָfor you,אַחַתoneוּלְמֹשֶׁהand for Mosesאַחַתone,וּלְאֵלִיָּסand for Eliasאֶחָת׃one.

    Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.

    עוֹדֶנּוּWhile he yetמְדַבֵּרspake,וְהִנֵּהbehold,עֲנַן־אוֹרa bright cloudהֵצַלovershadowedעֲלֵיהֶםthem:וְהִנֵּהand beholdקוֹלa voiceמִתּוֹךְout ofהֶעָנָןthe cloud,אֹמֵרwhich said,זֶה־בְּנִיThis is my Son,יְדִידִיbelovedאֲשֶׁרwhomרָצִיתִיI am well pleased withבוֹhim;אֵלָיוunto himתִּשְׁמָעוּן׃hear you.

    While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.

    וַיְהִיAndכִּשְׁמֹעַwhen heard it,הַתַּלְמִידִיםthe disciplesוַיִּפְּלוּthey fellעַל־פְּנֵיהֶםon their face,וַיִּירְאוּand were afraidמְאֹד׃sore.

    And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid.

    וַיִּגַּשׁAnd cameיֵשׁוּעַJesusוַיִּגַּע־בָּםand touched them,וַיֹּאמַרand said,קוּמוּArise,אַל־תִּירָאוּ׃and be not afraid.

    And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid.

    וַיִּשְׂאוּAnd when they had lifted upעֵינֵיהֶםtheir eyes,וְלֹאnoרָאוּthey sawאִישׁman,בִּלְתִּיsaveיֵשׁוּעַJesusלְבַדּוֹ׃only.

    And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only.

    וּבְרִדְתָּםAnd as they came downמִן־הָהָרfrom the mountain,צִוָּהchargedעֲלֵיהֶםthem,יֵשׁוּעַJesusלֵאמֹרsaying,לֹאnotתַגִּידוּTellלְאִישׁto no man,אֶת־דְּבַרthe matter ofהַמַּרְאֶהthe visionעַדuntilאִם־קָםbe risen againבֶּן־הָאָדָםthe Son of manמֵעִםfromהַמֵּתִים׃the dead.

    And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead.

    וַיִּשְׁאָלֻהוּAnd asked him,תַלְמִידָיוhis disciplesלֵאמֹרsaying,מַה־זֶּהWhy thenאֹמְרִיםsayהַסּוֹפְרִיםthe scribesאֵלִיָּסthat Eliasבּוֹאsurelyיָבוֹאmust come?בָּרִאשׁוֹנָה׃first

    And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come?

    וַיַּעַןAnd answeredיֵשׁוּעַJesusוַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,אָכֵןtrulyאֵלִיָּסEliasיָבֹאshall come,בָרִאשׁוֹנָהfirstוְהֵשִׁיבand restoreאֶת־הַכֹּל׃all things.

    And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things.

    אֲבָלButאֹמֵרsayאֲנִיIלָכֶםunto you,אֵלִיָּסThat Eliasכְּבָרis already,בָּאcomeוְלֹאandהִכִּירֻהוּthey knew him not,וַיַּעֲשׂוּ־בוֹbut have done unto himכִּרְצוֹנָםwhatsoever they listed.וְכֵןLikewiseגַּם־בֶּן־הָאָדָםshall also the Son of manיְעֻנֶּהsufferעַל־יָדָם׃of them.

    But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them.

    אָזThenהֵבִינוּunderstoodהַתַּלְמִידִיםthe disciplesכִּיthatעַל־יוֹחָנָןof Johnהַמַּטְבִּילthe Baptist.דִּבֶּרhe spakeאֲלֵיהֶם׃unto them

    Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.

    וַיְהִיAndכְּבוֹאָםwhen they were comeאֶל־הֲמוֹןto the multitudeהָעָםof the people,וַיִּגַּשׁthere cameאֵלָיוto himאִישׁa certain man,וַיִּכְרַעkneeling downעַל־בִּרְכָּיוon his kneesלְנֶגְדּוֹ׃before him,

    And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying,

    וַיֹּאמַרand saying,אֲדֹנִיLord,רַחֵם־נָאhave mercyעַל־בְּנִיon my son:כִּי־מֻכֵּהfor smitten ofיָרֵחַthe moonהוּאis he,וְחׇלְיוֹand his sicknessרָעis grievous:כִּי־פְעָמִיםfor timesרַבּוֹתmanyהוּאheנֹפֵלfallethבָּאֵשׁinto the fire,וּפְעָמִיםand timesרַבּוֹתmany,אֶל־תּוֹךְintoהַמָּיִם׃the water.

    Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatic, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.

  16. 16

    וָאָבִיאAnd I broughtאֹתוֹhimאֶל־תַּלְמִידֶיךָto your disciples,וְלֹאandיָכְלוּthey could notלִרְפֹּאcureלוֹ׃him.

    And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.

  17. 17

    וַיַּעַןThen answeredיֵשׁוּעַJesusוַיֹּאמֶרand said,הוֹיOדּוֹרgeneration,חֲסַרlackingאֱמוּנָהfaith,וּפְתַלְתֹּלand perverseעַד־מָתַיhow longאֶהְיֶהshall I beעִמָּכֶםwith you?עַד־מָתַיhow longאֶשָּׂאshall I sufferאֶתְכֶםyou?הָבִיאוּbringאוֹתוֹhimאֵלַיto meהֵנָּה׃hither.

    Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.

  18. 18

    וַיִּגְעַר־בּוֹAnd rebukedיֵשׁוּעַJesusוַיֵּצֵאand went outהַשֵׁדthe devilמִמֶּנּוּfrom him:וַיֵּרָפֵאand was curedהַנַּעַרthe childמִן־הַשָּׁעָהfrom very hour.הַהִיא׃that

    And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.

    וַיִּגְּשׁוּThen cameהַתַּלְמִידִיםthe disciplesאֶל־יֵשׁוּעַto Jesusוְהוּאwhen he wasלְבַדּוֹalone,וַיֹּאמְרוּand said,מַדּוּעַWhyאֲנַחְנוּweלֹאnotיָכֹלְנוּcouldלְגָרֲשׁוֹ׃cast him out?

    Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?

  20. 20

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd saidיֵשׁוּעַJesusאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,מִפְּנֵיBecause ofחֹסֶרthe lack ofאֱמוּנַתְכֶםyour faith:כִּיforאָמֵןverilyאֹמֵרsayאֲנִיIלָכֶםunto you,אִם־יֵשׁIf you haveבָּכֶםin youאֱמוּנָהfaithכְּגַרְגַּרas a grain ofהַחַרְדָּלmustard seed,וַאֲמַרְתֶּםyou shall sayאֶל־הָהָרunto mountain,הַזֶּהthisהֵעָתֵקRemoveמִזֶּהhenceשָׁמָּהto yonder place;וְנֶעְתַּקand it shall removeמִמְּקוֹמוֹfrom its place;וְאֵיןand notדָּבָרa thingאֲשֶׁרwhichיִבָּצֵרshall be impossibleמִכֶּם׃unto you.

    And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

    וְהַמִּיןHowbeit kindהַזֶּהthisלֹאnotיֵצֵאgoeth outכִּיbutאִםratherבִּתְפִלָּהby prayerוּבְצוֹם׃and fasting.

    Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

  22. 22

    וַיְהִיAndבְּעׇבְרָםwhile they abodeבְּאֶרֶץinהַגָּלִילGalilee,וַיֹּאמֶרsaidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,יֵשׁוּעַJesusעָתִידis aboutבֶּן־הָאָדָםThe Son of manלְהִמָּסֵרshall be betrayedבִּידֵיinto the hands ofאֲנָשִׁים׃men:

    And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, The Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of men:

  23. 23

    וַיַהַרְגֻהוּAnd they shall kill him,וּבַיּוֹםand dayהַשְּׁלִישִׁיthe thirdקוֹםhe shall surelyיָקוּםbe raised again.וַיִּתְעַצְּבוּAnd they were sorryמְאֹד׃exceedingly.

    And they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised again. And they were exceeding sorry.

  24. 24

    וַיְהִיAndכְּבוֹאָםwhen they were comeאֶל־כְּפַר־נַחוּםto Capernaum,וַיִּגְּשׁוּcameאֶל־פֶּטְרוֹסto Peter,גַּבָּאֵיthey that receivedמַחֲצִיתthe half ofהַשָׁקֶלthe shekelוַיֹּאמְרוּand said,הֲלֹאDoth notיִתֵּןpayרַבְּכֶםyour masterאֶת־מַחֲצִיתthe half ofהַשָׁקֶל׃the shekel?

    And when they were come to Capernaum, they that received tribute money came to Peter, and said, Doth not your master pay tribute?

  25. 25

    וַיֹּאמֶרHe saith,יִתֵּןYes.וּבְבוֹאוֹAnd when he was comeהַבַּיְתָהinto the house,קִדֵּםpreventedאֹתוֹhim,יֵשׁוּעַJesusלִשְׁאֹלto ask,וַיֹּאמַרsaying,מַה־דַּעְתְּךָWhat think you,שִׁמְעוֹןSimon?מַלְכֵיthe kings ofהָאָרֶץthe earthמִמִּיof whomיִקְחוּdo takeמֶכֶסcustomוּמַסor tribute?מֵאֵתofבְּנֵיהֶםtheir own children,אוֹorמֵאֵתofהַזָּרִים׃strangers?

    He saith, Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own children, or of strangers?

    וַיֹּאמֶרsaithפֶּטְרוֹסPeterאֵלָיוunto him,מֵאֵתOfהַזָּרִיםstrangers.וַיֹּאמֶרsaithלוֹunto him,יֵשׁוּעַJesusאִם־כֵּןIf so,אֵפוֹאthenהַבָּנִיםare the childrenפְּטוּרִיםfreeהֵמָּה׃are they.

    Peter saith unto him, Of strangers. Jesus saith unto him, Then are the children free.

  27. 27

    וְאוּלָםNotwithstanding,לְמַעַןto the end thatאֲשֶׁר־לֹא־נִהְיֶהwe be notלָהֶםunto themלְמִכְשׁוֹלan offense,לֵךְgo youאֶל־הַיָּםto the sea,וְהִשְׁלַכְתָּand castחַכָּהan hookאֶל־תּוֹכוֹtherein,וְאֶת־הַדָּגand the fishהָרִאשׁוֹןthat firstאֲשֶׁרwhichיַעֲלֶהcometh up;שָׂאֵהוּtake it up;וְכַאֲשֶׁרand whenתִּפְתַּחyou have openedאֶת־פִּיוhis mouth,תִּמְצָאyou shall findבוֹthereinמַטְבֵּעַa piece of money:אוֹתוֹthatקַחtake,וְשָׁקַלְתָּand give unto themעַלforיָדִיmeוְעַלand forיָדֶךָ׃you.

    Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee.
