1. 1

   וַיִּגְּשׁוּalso came,הַפְּרוּשִׁיםThe Phariseesוְהַצַּדּוּקִיםwith the Sadduceesלְנַסּוֹתוֹand temptingוַיִּשְׁאֲלוּdesiredמֵאִתּוֹhimלְהַרְאוֹתָםthat he would shew themאוֹתa signמִן־הַשָׁמָיִם׃from heaven.

   The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven.

2. 2

   וַיַּעַןHe answeredוַיֹּאמֶרand saidלָהֶםunto them,בָּעֶרֶבWhen it is evening,תֹּאמְרוּyou say,יוֹם־צַחFair weatherיִהְיֶהit will be:כִּיforאָדְמוּis red.הַשָׁמָיִם׃the sky

   He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red.

   וּבַבֹּקֶרAnd in the morning,תֹּאמְרוּyou say,הַיּוֹםTo dayסַעַרfoul weather:כִּי־אָדְמוּfor redוְהִתְקַדְּרוּand lowring isהַשָׁמָיִםthe sky.חֲנֵפִיםO you hypocrites,אַתֶּםyouמַכִּירִיםcan discernאֶת־פְּנֵיthe face ofהַשָּׁמַיִםthe sky;וְאֹתוֹתbut the signs ofהָעִתִּיםthe timesלֹאnot?תַכִּירוּ׃can you discern

   And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?

4. 4

   דּוֹרA generationרַעwickedוּמְנָאֵףand adulterousמְבַקֶּשׁ־לוֹseeketh afterאוֹתa sign;וְאוֹתand signלֹאnoיִנָּתֶן־לוֹthere shall be given unto it,בִּלְתִּיbutאִם־אוֹתthe sign ofיוֹנָהJonahהַנָּבִיאthe prophet.וַיַּעַזְבֵםAnd he left them,וַיֵּלֶךְand departedלוֹ׃his way.

   A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed.

   וַיָּבֹאוּAnd when were comeהַתַּלְמִידִיםhis disciplesאֶל־עֵבֶרto the other sideהַיָּםof the sea,וְהֵםtheyשָׁכְחוּhad forgottenלָקַחַתto takeאִתָּםwith themלָחֶם׃bread.

   And when his disciples were come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread.

   וַיֹּאמֶרThen saidיֵשׁוּעַJesusאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,רְאוּTake heedוְהִשָׁמְרוּand bewareלָכֶםyourselvesמִשְּׂאֹרof the leaven ofהַפְּרוּשִׁיםthe Phariseesוְהַצַּדּוּקִים׃and of the Sadducees.

   Then Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.

7. 7

   וַיַּחְשְׁבוּAnd they reasonedכֹהthisוָכֹהand that,בְּקִרְבָּםamong themselves,וַיֹּאמְרוּsaying,עַל־דְּבַרIt is becauseשֶׁלּא־לָקַחְנוּwe have takenאִתָּנוּnoלָחֶם׃bread.

   And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have taken no bread.

8. 8

   וַיֵּדַעWhich when perceived,יֵשׁוּעַJesusוַיֹּאמֶרhe saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,קְטַנֵּיO you of littleאֱמוּנָהfaith,מָה־תַּחְשְׁבוּwhy reason youבִּלְבַבְכֶםamong yourselves,אֲשֶׁרbecauseלֹא־לְקַחְתֶּםyou have broughtאִתְּכֶםnoלָחֶם׃bread?

   Which when Jesus perceived, he said unto them, O ye of little faith, why reason ye among yourselves, because ye have brought no bread?

9. 9

   הַעוֹדyetלֹאDo you notתַשְׂכִּילוּunderstand,וְלֹאneitherתִּזְכְּרוּrememberאֶת־חֲמֵשֶׁתthe fiveכִּכְּרוֹת־הַלֶּחֶםloavesלַחֲמֵשֶׁתof the fiveאֲלָפִיםthousand,אִישׁmen,וְכַמָּהand how manyסַלִּיםbasketsנְשָׂאתֶם׃you took up?

   Do ye not yet understand, neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?

10. 10

    וְאֶת־שֶׁבַעNeither the sevenכִּכְּרוֹתloavesהַלֶּחֶםof breadלְאַרְבַּעַתof the fourאֲלָפִיםthousand,אִישׁmen,וְכַמָּהand how manyדוּדִיםbasketsנְשָׂאתֶם׃you took up?

    Neither the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?

11. 11

    אֵיךְHow is it thatלֹאnotתָבִינוּyou do understandכִּיthatלֹאnotעַל־הַלֶּחֶםconcerning bread,אָמַרְתִּיI spake itאֲלֵיהֶםto youהִשָּׁמְרוּthat you should bewareלָכֶםyourselvesמִשְּׂאֹרof the leaven ofהַפְּרוּשִׁיםthe Phariseesוְהַצַּדּוּקִים׃and of the Sadducees?

    How is it that ye do not understand that I spake it not to you concerning bread, that ye should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees?

12. 12

    אָזThenהֵבִינוּunderstood theyכִּיhow thatלֹאnotאָמַרhe badeלָהֶםthemלְהִשָׁמֵרbewareמִשְּׂאֹרof the leavenהַלֶּחֶםof bread,כִּיbutאִםratherמִלִּמוּדof the doctrine ofהַפְּרוּשִׁיםthe Phariseesוְהַצַּדּוּקִים׃and of the Sadducees.

    Then understood they how that he bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.

13. 13

    וַיְהִיAnd it came to pass,כְּבוֹאwhen cameיֵשׁוּעַJesusאֶל־גְּלִילוֹתinto the coasts ofקֵיסַרְיָהCaesareaשֶׁל־פִילִפּוֹסPhilippi,וַיִּשְׁאַלhe askedאֶת־תַּלְמִידָיוhis disciples,לֵאמֹרsaying,מָה־אֹמְרִיםWhom do sayלִיof me,בְנֵיthe sons ofאָדָםmenמִיwhoהוּאhe is,בֵּן־הָאָדָם׃the Son of man?

    When Jesus came into the coasts of Cæsarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?

14. 14

    וַיֹּאמְרוּAnd they said,יֵשׁSomeאֹמְרִיםsayיוֹחָנָןthat you are Johnהַמַּטְבִּילthe Baptist:הוּאhe;וְיֵשׁsome,אֹמְרִיםsayאֵלִיָּסElias;וַאֲחֵרִיםand others,אֹמְרִיםsayיִרְמְיָהוּJeremiah,אוֹorאֶחָדoneמִן־הַנְּבִיאִים׃of the prophets.

    And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.

15. 15

    וַיֹּאמֶרHe saithאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,וְאַתֶּםButמַה־תֹּאמְרוּwhom say youלִיof me,מִיthatאָנִי׃I am?

    He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?

16. 16

    וַיַּעַןAnd answeredשִׁמְעוֹןSimonפֶּטְרוֹסPeterוַיֹּאמַרand said,אַתָּהYouהוּאartהַמָּשִׁיחַthe Christ,בֶּן־אֱלֹהִיםthe Son of God.חַיִּים׃the living

    And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

17. 17

    וַיַּעַןAnd answeredיֵשׁוּעַJesusוַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֵלָיוunto him,אַשְׁרֶיךָBlessed are you,שִׁמְעוֹןSimonבַּר־יוֹנָהBar-jona:כִּי־בָשָׂרfor fleshוָדָםand bloodלֹאhath notגִלָּה־לְךָrevealed unto youאֶת־זֹאתthis,כִּיbutאִםratherאָבִיmy Fatherשֶׁבַּשָׁמָיִם׃which is in heaven.

    And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.

18. 18

    וְגַם־אֲנִיAnd Iאֹמֵרsayלְךָalso unto you,כִּיThatאַתָּהyou areפֶּטְרוֹסPeter,וְעַל־הַצּוּרand upon rockהַזֶּהthisאֶבְנֶהI will buildאֶת־קְהִלָּתִיmy church;וְשַׁעֲרֵיand the gates ofשְׁאוֹלhellלֹאnotיִגְבְּרוּshall prevailעָלֶיהָ׃against it.

    And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

19. 19

    וְאֶתֵּןAnd I will giveלְךָunto youאֶת־מַפְתְּחוֹתthe keys ofמַלְכוּתthe kingdom ofהַשָׁמָיִםheaven:וְכׇל־אֲשֶׁרand whatsoeverתֶּאֱסֹרyou shall bindעַל־הָאָרֶץon earthאָסוּרboundיִהְיֶהshall beבַּשָּׁמַיִםin heaven:וְכׇל־אֲשֶׁרand whatsoeverתַּתִּירyou shall looseעַל־הָאָרֶץon earthמֻתָּרloosedיִהְיֶהshall beבַּשָׁמָיִם׃in heaven.

    And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

20. 20

    אָזThenצִוָּהcharged heעַל־תַּלְמִידָיוhis disciplesאֲשֶׁרthatלֹאnoיְסַפְּרוּthey should tellלְאִישׁmanכִּיthatהוּאhe was Jesusהַמָּשִׁיחַ׃the Christ.

    Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.

21. 21

    מִן־הָעֵתFrom time forthהַהִיאthatהֵחֵלbeganיֵשׁוּעַJesusלְהַגִּידto shewלְתַלְמִידָיוunto his disciples,כִּיhow thatצָרִיךְmustהוּאheלָלֶכֶתgoיְרוּשָׁלָיִםunto Jerusalem,וִיעֻנֶּהand sufferהַרְבֵּהmany thingsמִידֵיofהַזְּקֵנִיםthe eldersוְרָאשֵׁיand chiefהַכֹּהֲנִיםpriestsוְהַסּוֹפְרִיםand scribes,וְיֵהָרֵגand be killed,וּבַיּוֹםand day.הַשְּׁלִישִׁיthe thirdקוֹםhe shall surelyיָקוּם׃rise again.

    From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.

22. 22

    וַיִּקָּחֵהוּThen took himפֶטְרוֹסPeter,וַיָּחֶלand beganלִגְעָר־בּוֹto rebuke him,לֵאמֹרsaying,חָסBe it farלְךָfrom you,אֲדֹנִיLord:אַל־יְהִי־לְךָbe it not unto youכָּזֹאת׃such a thing.

    Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee.

23. 23

    וַיִּפֶןBut he turned,וַיֹּאמֶרand saidלְפֶטְרוֹסunto Peter,סוּרGet youמֵעָלַיbehind me,הַשָּׂטָןSatan:מִכְשׁוֹלan offenseאַתָּהyou areלִיunto me:כִּיforלִבְּךָyour heart isלְדִבְרֵיto the things ofבְנֵי־אָדָםmen,וְלֹאand notלְדִבְרֵיto the things ofאֱלֹהִים׃God.

    But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.

24. 24

    וַיֹּאמֶרThen saidיֵשׁוּעַJesusאֶל־תַּלְמִידָיוunto his disciples,אִישׁIf any manכִּי־יַחְפֹּץwillלָלֶכֶתcomeאַחֲרַיafter me,יְכַחֵשׁlet him denyבְּעַצְמוֹhimself,וְנָשָׂאand take upאֶת־צְלוּבוֹhis cross,וְהָלַךְand followאַחֲרָי׃me.

    Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

25. 25

    כִּיForהֶחָפֵץwhosoever willלְהַצִּילsaveאֶת־נַפְשׁוֹhis lifeתֹּאבַדshall loseנַפְשׁוֹitמִמֶּנּוּof himוְהַמְאַבֵּדand whosoever will loseנַפְשׁוֹhis lifeלְמַעֲנִיfor my sakeהוּאheיִמְצָאֶנָּה׃shall find it.

    For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.

26. 26

    כִּיForמַה־יּוֹעִילwhat is profited,הָאָדָםa manשֶׁיִּקְנֶהif he shall gainאֶת־כׇּל־הָעוֹלָםthe whole world,וְהִשְׁחִיתand loseאֶת־נַפְשׁוֹhis own soul?אוֹorמַה־יִּתֵּןwhat shall giveהָאָדָםa manפִּדְיוֹןin exchange forנַפְשׁוֹ׃his soul?

    For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

27. 27

    כִּיForבֶּן־הָאָדָםthe Son of manעָתִידis aboutלָבוֹאto comeבִּכְבוֹדin the glory ofאָבִיוhis Fatherעִם־מַלְאָכָיוwith his angels;וְאָזand thenיְשַׁלֵּםhe shall rewardלְכׇל־אִישׁevery manכְּמַעֲשֵׂהוּ׃according to his works.

    For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.

28. 28

    אָמֵןVerilyאֹמֵרsayאֲנִיIלָכֶםunto you,כִּיthatיֵשׁThere be someבָּעֹמְדִיםstandingפֹּהhere,אֲשֶׁרwhichלֹא־יִטְעֲמוּshall not tasteטַעַםofמִיתָהdeath,עַדtillכִּי־יִרְאוּthey seeאֶת־בֶּן־הָאָדָםthe Son of manבָּאcomingבְּמַלְכוּתוֹ׃in his kingdom.

    Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.
