    אָזThenבָּאוּcameאֶל־יֵשׁוּעַto Jesusהַסּוֹפְרִיםscribesוְהַפְּרוּשִׁיםand Pharisees,אֲשֶׁרwhich wereמִירוּשָׁלָיִם׃of Jerusalem,

    Then came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem, saying,

    וַיֹּאמְרוּsaying,מַדּוּעַWhyתַּלְמִידֶיךָdo your disciplesעֹבְרִיםtransgressאֵת־קַבָּלַתthe tradition ofהַזְּקֵנִיםthe elders?כִּיforאֵינָםthey notנֹטְלִיםwashיְדֵיהֶםtheir handsלַסְּעוּדָה׃when they eat bread.

    Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread.

    וַיַּעַןBut he answeredוַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,מַדּוּעַWhyגַּם־אַתֶּםdo you alsoעֹבְרִיםtransgressאֶת־מִצְוַתthe commandment ofאֱלֹהִיםGodלְמַעַןbyקַבָּלַתְכֶם׃your tradition?

    But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?

    כִּיForהָאֱלֹהִיםGodצִוָּהcommanded,לֵאמֹרsaying,כַּבֵּדHonorאֶת־אָבִיךָyour fatherוְאֶת־אִמֶּךָand mother:וּמְקַלֵּלand, He that cursethאָבִיוfatherוְאִמּוֹor mother,מוֹתlet him dieיוּמָת׃the death.

    For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.

    וְאַתֶּםBut youאֹמְרִיםsay,הָאֹמֵרWhosoever shall sayלְאָבִיוto his fatherוּלְאִמּוֹor his mother,קׇרְבָּןIt is a gift,מַה־שָּׁאַתָּהby whatsoeverנֶהֱנֶהyou might be profitedלִי׃by me;

    But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me;

    אֵינוֹhe is notחַיָּבboundבְּכִבּוּדto honorאָבִיוhis fatherוְאִמּוֹor his mother.וַתָּפֵרוּThus have you made of none effectאֶת־דְּבַרthe commandment ofהָאֱלֹהִיםGodלְמַעַןbyקַבָּלַתְכֶם׃your tradition.

    And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.

    חֲנֵפִיםYou hypocrites,הֵיטֵבwellנִבָּאdid prophesyעֲלֵיכֶםof you,יְשַׁעְיָהוּEsaiasלֵאמֹר׃saying,

    Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying,

    נִגַּשׁdraweth nigh unto meהָעָםpeopleהַזֶּהThisבְּפִיוwith their mouth,וּבִשְׂפָתָיוand with their lipsכִּבְּדוּנִיhonoreth me;וְלִבָּםbut their heartרָחַקis farמִמֶּנִּי׃from me.

    This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.

    וְתֹהוּBut in vainיִרְאָתָםthey do worshipאֹתִיme,מִצְוַתthe commandments ofאֲנָשִׁיםmen.מְלַמְּדִים׃teaching for doctrines

    But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

    וַיִּקְּרָאAnd he calledאֶל־הָעָםthe multitude,וַיֹּאמֶרand saidלָהֶםunto them,שִׁמְעוּHear,וְהָבִינוּ׃and understand:

    And he called the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand:

    לֹאNotהַנִּכְנָסthat which goeth intoאֶל־הַפֶּהthe mouthיְטַמֵּאdefilethאֶת־הָאָדָםa man;כִּיbutאִםratherהַיּוֹצֵאthat which cometh outמִן־הַפֶּהof the mouth,הוּאthisמְטַמֵּאdefilethאֶת־הָאָדָם׃a man.

    Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.

    וַיִּגְּשׁוּThen cameאֵלָיוunto himתַּלְמִידָיוhis disciples,וַיֹּאמְרוּand said unto him,הֲיָדַעְתָּKnow youכִּיthatהַפְּרוּשִׁיםthe Phariseesשָׁמְעוּafter they heardאֶת־הַדָּבָרsaying?הַזֶּהthisוַיִּכָּשְׁלוּ־בוֹ׃were offended at it?

    Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying?

    וַיַּעַןBut he answeredוַיֹּאמַרand said,כׇּל־מַטָּעEvery plant,אֲשֶׁרwhichלֹאnotנָטַעhath planted,אָבִיmyשֶׁבַּשָׁמַיִםheavenly Fatherעָקוֹרsurelyיֵעָקֵר׃shall be rooted up.

    But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up.

  14. 14

    הַנִּיחוּLet alone:אוֹתָםthemמַדְרִיכִיםleadersעִוְרִיםblindהֵמָּהthey beלַעִוְרִיםof the blind.וְכִי־יַדְרִיךְAnd if leadעִוֵּרthe blindאֶת־הָעִוֵּרthe blind,וְנָפְלוּshall fallשְׁנֵיהֶםbothאֶל־הַשָׁחַת׃into the ditch.

    Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.

  15. 15

    וַיַּעַןThen answeredפֶּטְרוֹסPeterוַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֵלָיוunto him,בָּאֵרDeclareלָנוּunto usאֶת־הַמָּשָׁלparable.הַזֶּה׃this

    Then answered Peter and said unto him, Declare unto us this parable.

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd said,יֵשׁוּעַJesusעֲדֶנָהyetגַם־אַתֶּםAre you alsoלֹאnotתַשְׂכִּילוּ׃understand?

    And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding?

  17. 17

    הַעוֹדyetלֹאDo notתֵדְעוּyou understand,כִּיthatכׇל־הַבָּאwhatsoever entereth inאֶל־הַפֶּהat the mouthיוֹרֵדgoethאֶל־הַכֶּרֶשׂinto the belly,וְיִשָׁפֵךְand is cast outמִשָּׁםfrom thenceלְמוֹצָאוֹת׃into the draught?

    Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?

  18. 18

    אֲבָלButהַיּוֹצֵאthose things which proceedמִן־הַפֶּהout of the mouthיוֹצֵאcome forthמִן־הַלֵּבfrom the heart;וְהוּאand theyמְטַמֵּאdefileאֶת־הָאָדָם׃the man.

    But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.

    כִּיForמִן־הַלֵּבout of the heartיוֹצְאוֹתproceedמַחְשְׁבוֹתthoughts,רָעevilרְצִיחוֹתmurders,נִאוּפִיםadulteries,זְנוּנִיםfornications,גְּנֵבוֹתthefts,עֵדוּתwitness,שֶׁקֶרfalseוְגִדּוּפִים׃blasphemies:

    For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:

    אֵלֶּהTheseהֵםareהַמְטַמְּאִיםthe things which defileאֶת־הָאָדָםa man:אֲבָלbutאֲכִילָהto eatבְּלֹאwithנְטִילַתunwashenיָדַיִםhandsלֹאnotתְּטַמֵּאdefilethאֶת־הָאָדָם׃a man.

    These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.

  21. 21

    וַיֵּצֵאThen wentיֵשׁוּעַJesusמִשָּׁםthence,וַיָּסַרand departedאֶל־גְּלִילוֹתinto the coasts ofצוֹרTyreוְצִידוֹן׃and Sidon.

    Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon.

  22. 22

    וְהִנֵּהAnd, behold,אִשָּׁהa womanכְנַעֲנִיתof Canaanיֹצֵאתcame outמִן־הַגְּבוּלוֹתof coasts,הָהֵםthe sameוַתִּצְעַקand criedאֵלָיוunto him,לֵאמֹרsaying,חׇנֵּנִיHave mercy on me,אֲדֹנִיO Lord,בֶן־דָּוִדyou Son of David;כִּיforבִתִּיmy daughterמְעֻנָּהis vexedמְאֹדexceedinglyעַל־יְדֵיwithשֵׁד׃a devil.

    And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.

    וְלֹא־עָנָהBut he answeredאֹתָהּherדָּבָרnot a word.וַיִּגְּשׁוּAnd cameתַלְמִידָיוhis disciplesוַיְבַקְשׁוּand besoughtמִמֶּנּוּhim,לֵאמֹרsaying,שַׁלְּחֶהָSend her away;כִּי־צֹעֶקֶתfor criethהִיאsheאַחֲרֵינוּ׃after us.

    But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.

  24. 24

    וַיַּעַןBut he answeredוַיֹּאמַרand said,לֹאnotשֻׁלַּחְתִּיI am sentבִּלְתִּיbutאֶל־הַצֹּאןunto the sheepהָאֹבְדוֹתlostאֲשֶׁרwhich areלְבֵיתof the house ofיִשְׂרָאֵל׃Israel.

    But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

  25. 25

    וְהִיאThen sheבָאָהcame,וַתִּשְׁתַּחוּand worshipedלוֹhim,וַתֹּאמַרsaying,אֲדֹנִיLord,עׇזְרֵנִי׃help me.

    Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.

  26. 26

    וַיַּעַןBut he answeredוַיֹּאמַרand said,לֹא־טוֹבIt is not meetלָקַחַתto takeאֶת־לֶחֶםbread,הַבָּנִיםthe children'sוּלְהַשְׁלִיכוֹand to cast itלִפְנֵיtoצְעִירֵיthe littleהַכְּלָבִים׃dogs.

    But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs.

  27. 27

    וַתֹּאמַרAnd she said,כֵּןTruth,אֲדֹנִיLord:אֶפֶסyetכִּי־גַם־צְעִירֵיfor even the littleהַכְּלָבִיםthe dogsיֹאכְלוּeatמִן־הַפֵּרוּרִיםof the crumbsהַנֹּפְלִיםwhich fallמֵעַל־שֻׁלְחַןfrom table.אֲדֹנֵיהֶם׃their masters'

    And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table.

  28. 28

    וַיַּעַןThen answeredיֵשׁוּעַJesusוַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֵלֶיהָunto her,אִשָּׁהO woman,רַבָּהgreat isאֱמוּנָתֵךְyour faith:יְהִי־לָךְbe it unto youכִּרְצוֹנֵךְeven as you will.וַתֵּרָפֵאAnd was made wholeבִתָּהּher daughterמִן־הַשָּׁעָהfrom very hour.הַהִיא׃that

    Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.

  29. 29

    וַיַּעֲבֹרAnd departedיֵשׁוּעַJesusמִשָּׁםfrom thence,וַיָּבֹאand came nighאֶל־יָםunto the sea ofהַגָּלִילGalilee;וַיַּעַלand went upהָהָרָהinto a mountain,וַיֵּשֶׁבand sat downשָׁם׃there.

    And Jesus departed from thence, and came nigh unto the sea of Galilee; and went up into a mountain, and sat down there.

  30. 30

    וַיָּבֹאוּAnd cameאֵלָיוunto him,הֲמוֹןa multitudeעַםof peopleרָבgreatוְעִמָּהֶםhaving with themפִּסְחִיםthose that were lame,עִוְרִיםblind,אִלְּמִיםdumb,קִטְּעִיםmaimed,וְרַבִּיםand manyכָּהֵמָּהothers,וַיַּפִּילוּםand cast them downלְרַגְלֵיat feet;יֵשׁוּעַJesus'וַיִּרְפָּאֵם׃and he healed them:

    And great multitudes came unto him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus' feet; and he healed them:

  31. 31

    וַיִּתְמְהוּInsomuch that wondered,הָעָםthe multitudeבִּרְאוֹתָםwhen they sawאֶת־הָאִלְּמִיםthe dumbמְדַבְּרִיםto speak,וְהַקִּטְּעִיםthe maimedבְּרִיאִיםto be whole,וְהַפִּסְחִיםthe lameמְהַלְּכִיםto walk,וְהַעִוְרִיםand the blindרֹאִיםto see:וַיְשַׁבְּחוּand they glorifiedאֶת־אֱלֹהֵיthe God ofיִשְׂרָאֵל׃Israel.

    Insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel.

  32. 32

    וַיִּקְרָאThen calledיֵשׁוּעַJesusאֶל־תַּלְמִידָיוhis disciples unto him,וַיֹּאמַרand said,נִכְמְרוּI haveרַחֲמַיcompassionעַל־הָעָםon the multitude,כִּי־זֶהbecause theyעָמְדָםcontinueעִמָּדִיwith meשְׁלֹשֶׁתthreeיָמִיםdays now,וְאֵיןandלָהֶםhaveמַה־לֶּאֱכֹלnothing to eat:וְאֵינֶנִּיand I am notחָפֵץwillingלְשַׁלְּחָםsend them awayרְעֵבִיםfasting,פֶּן־יִתְעַלְּפוּlest they faintבַּדָּרֶךְ׃in the way.

    Then Jesus called his disciples unto him, and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way.

  33. 33

    וַיֹּאמְרוּAnd sayאֵלָיוunto him,הַתַּלְמִידִיםhis disciplesמֵאַיִןWhenceלָנוּshould we haveבַּמִּדְבָּרin the wilderness,דֵּי־לֶחֶםso much breadלְהַשְׂבִּיעַas to fillאֶת־הָמוֹןa multitude?רַבgreatכָּזֶה׃so

    And his disciples say unto him, Whence should we have so much bread in the wilderness, as to fill so great a multitude?

  34. 34

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd saithיֵשׁוּעַJesusאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,כַּמָּהHow manyכִכְּרוֹתloavesלֶחֶםof breadלָכֶםhave you?וַיֹּאמְרוּAnd they said,שֶׁבַעSeven,וּמְעַטand a fewדָּגִיםfishes.קְטַנִּים׃little

    And Jesus saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven, and a few little fishes.

  35. 35

    וַיְצַוAnd he commandedאֶת־הֲמוֹןthe multitudeהָעָםof the peopleוַיֵּשְׁבוּto sit downלָאָרֶץ׃on the ground.

    And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground.

  36. 36

    וַיִּקַּחAnd he tookאֶת־שֶׁבַעthe sevenכִּכְּרוֹתloavesהַלֶּחֶםof bread,וְאֵתandהַדָּגִיםthe fishes,וַיְבָרֶךְand gave thanks,וַיִּפְרֹסand brake them,וַיִּתֵּןand gaveאֶל־הַתַּלְמִידִיםto his disciples,וְהַתַּלְמִידִיםand the disciplesנָתְנוּgaveלָעָם׃to the multitude.

    And he took the seven loaves and the fishes, and gave thanks, and brake them, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.

  37. 37

    וַיֹּאכְלוּAnd they did eatכֻלָּםall,וַיִּשְׂבָּעוּand were filled:וַיִּשְׂאוּand they took upמִן־הַפְּתוֹתִיםof the broken meatהַנּוֹתָרִיםthat was leftשִׁבְעָהsevenדוּדִיםbasketsמְלֵאִים׃full.

    And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets full.

  38. 38

    וְהָאֹכְלִיםAnd they that did eatאַרְבַּעַתwere fourאֲלָפִיםthousandאִישׁmen,מִלְּבַדbesideהַנָּשִׁיםwomenוְהַטָּף׃and children.

    And they that did eat were four thousand men, beside women and children.

  39. 39

    וַיְשַׁלַּחAnd he sent awayאֶת־הָעָםthe multitude,וַיֵּרֶדand tookבׇּאֳנִיָּהship,וַיָּבֹאand cameאֶל־גְּבוּלinto the coasts ofמַגְדָּלָא׃Magdala.

    And he sent away the multitude, and took ship, and came into the coasts of Magdala.
