1. 1

   וַיְהִיAnd it came to pass,כְּכַלּוֹתwhen had made an end ofיֵשׁוּעַJesusלְצַוֹּתcommandingאֶת־שְׁנֵים־עָשָׂרhis twelveתַּלְמִידָיוdisciples,וַיֵּלֶךְhe departedמִשָּׁםthenceלְלַמֵּדto teachוְלִקְרֹאand to preachבְּעָרֵיהֶם׃in their cities.

   And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities.

2. 2

   וְיוֹחָנָןNow when Johnשָׁמַעhad heardבְּבֵיתinהַסֹּהַרthe prisonאֶת־מַעֲשֵׂיthe works ofהַמָּשִׁיחַChrist,וַיִּשְׁלַחhe sentשְׁנַיִםtwoמִתַּלְמִידָיו׃of his disciples,

   Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples,

   וַיֹּאמֶרAnd saidאֵלָיוunto him,הַאַתָּהAre youהוּאheהַבָּאthat should come,אִם־נְחַכֶּהor do we lookלְאַחֵר׃for another?

   And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?

4. 4

   וַיַּעַןansweredיֵשׁוּעַJesusוַיֹּאמֶרand saidלָהֶםunto them,לְכוּGoהַגִּידוּand shewלְיוֹחָנָןJohn againאֶת־אֲשֶׁרthose things whichשְׁמַעְתֶּםyou do hearוְאֶת־אֲשֶׁרand those whichרְאִיתֶם׃you see:

   Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see:

   עִוְרִיםThe blindרֹאִיםreceive their sight,וּפִסְחִיםand the lameמְהַלְּכִיםwalk,מְצֹרָעִיםthe lepersמְטֹהָרִיםare cleansed,וְחֵרְשִׁיםand the deafשׁוֹמְעִיםhear,וּמֵתִיםthe deadקָמִיםare raised up,וַעֲנִיִּיםand the poorמִתְבַּשְׁרִים׃have the gospel preached to them.

   The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

6. 6

   וְאַשְׁרֵיAnd blessed isהָאִישׁhe,אֲשֶׁרwhosoeverלֹא־יִכָּשֵׁלshall not be offendedבִּי׃in me.

   And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.

7. 7

   הֵמָּהAnd as theyהָלְכוּdeparted,וְיֵשׁוּעַJesusהֵחֵלbeganלְדַבֵּרto sayאֶל־הֲמוֹןunto the multitudeהָעָםof the peopleעַל־אֹדוֹתconcerningיוֹחָנָןJohn,וַיֹּאמַרsaying,מַה־זֶּהWhatיְצָאתֶםwent you outהַמִּדְבָּרָהinto the wildernessלִרְאוֹתto see?הֲקָנֶהA reedאֲשֶׁרwhich isיִנּוֹעshakenבָּרוּחַ׃with the wind?

   And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind?

8. 8

   אוֹButמַה־זֶּהwhatיְצָאתֶםwent you outלִרְאוֹתfor to see?הַאִישׁA manלָבוּשׁclothed inבִּגְדֵיgarments ofעֲדָנִיםsoftness?הִנֵּהbehold,הַלֹּבְשִׁיםthey that wearעֲדָנִיםsoft clothingבְּבָתֵּיinהַמְּלָכִיםkings' houses.הֵמָּה׃are

   But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings' houses.

9. 9

   וְעַתָּהButמַה־זֶּהwhatיְצָאתֶםwent you outלִרְאוֹתfor to see?אִםwas itלִרְאוֹתto seeאִישׁa man,נָבִיאa prophet?אָכֵןyea,אֹמֵרsayאֲנִיIלָכֶםunto you,אַף־גָּדוֹלand greaterהוּאis heמִנָּבִיא׃than a prophet.

   But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet.

10. 10

    כִּיForזֶּהthisהוּאis he,אֲשֶׁרof whomכָּתוּבit is writtenעָלָיוconcerning him,הִנְנִיBehold,שֹׁלֵחַI sendמַלְאָכִיmy messengerלְפָנֶיךָbefore your face,וּפִנָּהwhich shall prepareדַּרְכְּךָyour wayלְפָנֶיךָ׃before you.

    For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.

11. 11

    אָמֵןVerilyאֹמֵרsayאֲנִיIלָכֶםunto you,לֹאnotקָםthere hath risenבִּילוּדֵיAmong them that are born ofאִשָּׁהwomenגָּדוֹלa greaterמִיּוֹחָנָןthan Johnהַמַּטְבִּילthe Baptist:וְהַקָּטֹןnotwithstanding he that is leastבְּמַלְכוּתin the kingdom ofהַשָּׁמַיִםheavenיִגְדַּלis greaterמִמֶּנּוּ׃than he.

    Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

12. 12

    וּמִימֵיAnd from the days ofיוֹחָנָןJohnהַמַּטְבִּילthe Baptistוְעַד־הֵנָּהuntil nowמַלְכוּתthe kingdom ofהַשָּׁמַיִםheavenנִתְפְּשָׂהsuffereth violence,בְיָדby a handחֲזָקָהmighty,וְהַמִּתְחַזְּקִיםand the violentיַחְטְפוּהָ׃take it by force.

    And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.

13. 13

    כִּיForכׇל־הַנְּבִיאִיםall the prophetsוְהַתּוֹרָהand the lawעַד־יוֹחָנָןuntil John.נִבָּאוּ׃prophesied

    For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.

14. 14

    וְאִם־תִּרְצוּAnd if you willלְקַבֵּלreceive it,הִנֵּהbehold,הוּאthis isאֵלִיָּסElias,הֶעָתִידwhich wasלָבוֹא׃for to come.

    And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.

15. 15

    מִיHeאֲשֶׁרthatאׇזְנַיִםearsלוֹhath,לִשְׁמֹעַto hear,יִשְׁמָע׃let him hear.

    He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

16. 16

    וְאֶל־מִיBut whereuntoאֲדַמֶּהshall I likenאֶת־הַדּוֹרgeneration?הַזֶּהthisדּוֹמֶהlikeהוּאit isלַיְלָדִיםunto childrenהַיֹּשְׁבִיםsittingבַּשְׁוָקִיםin the markets,וְקֹרְאִיםand callingלְחַבְרֵיהֶםunto their fellows,לֵאמֹר׃saying,

    But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the markets, and calling unto their fellows,

17. 17

    חִלַּלְנוּWe have pipedלָכֶםunto you,בַּחֲלִילִיםwith flutes,וְלֹאand you have notרִקַּדְתֶּםdanced;קוֹנַנּוּwe have mournedלָכֶםunto you,קִינָהa dirge,וְלֹאand you have notסְפַדְתֶּם׃lamented.

    And saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented.

18. 18

    כִּי־בָא־יוֹחָנָןFor John cameוְהוּאand heלֹאneitherאֹכֵלeatingוְלֹאnorשֹׁתֶהdrinking,וַיֹּאמְרוּand they say,שֵׁדa devil isבּוֹ׃in him.

    For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil.

19. 19

    וַיָּבֹאcameבֶן־הָאָדָםThe Son of manאֹכֵלeatingוְשֹׁתֶהand drinking,וְהֵםand theyאֹמְרִיםsay,הִנֵּהBeholdאִישׁa manזוֹלֵלgluttonous,וְסֹבֵאand a winebibber,וְאֹהֵבa friend ofמוֹכְסִיםpublicansוְחַטָּאִיםand sinners.וְנִצְדְּקָהBut is justifiedהַחׇכְמָהwisdomבְּבָנֶיהָ׃of her children.

    The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.

20. 20

    אָזThenהֵחֵלbegan heלְהוֹכִיחַto upbraidהֶעָרִיםthe citiesאֲשֶׁר־רֹבwherein mostגְּבוּרוֹתָיוof his mighty worksנַעֲשׂוּwere doneבְתוֹכָןin them,וְלֹאbecause not:שָׁבוּ׃they repented

    Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not:

21. 21

    אוֹיWoeלָךְunto you,כּוֹרָזִיןChorazin!אוֹיwoeלָךְunto you,בֵּית־צַיְדָהBethsaida!כִּיforהַגְּבוּרוֹתthe mighty works,אֲשֶׁרwhichנַעֲשׂוּwere doneבְקִרְבְּכֶןin you,לוּifבְּצוֹרin Tyreוּבְצִידוֹןand Sidon,נַעֲשׂוּhad been doneהֲלֹא־כְבָרthey would have long agoשָׁבוּrepentedבְּשַׂקin sackclothוָאֵפֶר׃and ashes.

    Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.

22. 22

    אֲבָלButאֲנִיIאֹמֵרsayלָכֶםunto you,כִּיthatבְּיוֹםat the day ofהַדִּיןjudgment,יֵקַלIt shall be more tolerableלְצוֹרfor Tyreוְצִידוֹןand Sidonמִכֶּם׃than for you.

    But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you.

23. 23

    וְאַתְּAnd you,כְּפַר־נַחוּםCapernaum,הַמְרוֹמָמָהwhich art exaltedעַד־הַשָּׁמַיִםunto heaven,עַד־שְׁאוֹלto hell:תּוּרָדִיshalt be brought downכִּיforהַגְּבוּרוֹתthe mighty works,אֲשֶׁרwhichנַעֲשׂוּhave been doneבְתוֹכֵךְin you,לוּifבִסְדוֹםin Sodom,נַעֲשׂוּhad been doneכִּיsurelyעַתָּהnowעָמְדָהit would have remainedעַל־תִּלָּהּin its place,עַד־הַיּוֹםuntil day.הַזֶּה׃this

    And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.

24. 24

    אֲבָלButאֲנִיIאֹמֵרsayלָכֶםunto you,כִּיThatבְּיוֹםin the day ofהַדִּיןjudgment,יֵקַלit shall be more tolerableלְאַדְמַתfor the land ofסְדוֹםSodomמִמֵּךְ׃than for you.

    But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.

25. 25

    בָּעֵתAt timeהַהִיאthatעָנָהansweredיֵשׁוּעַJesusוְאָמַרand said,אוֹדְךָI thank you,אָבִיO Father,אֲדוֹןLord ofהַשָּׁמַיִםheavenוְהָאָרֶץand earth,כִּיbecauseהִסְתַּרְתָּyou have hidאֶת־אֵלֶּהthese thingsמִן־הַחֲכָמִיםfrom the wiseוְהַנְּבוֹנִיםand prudent,וְגִלִּיתָםand hast revealed themלָעוֹלֲלִים׃unto babes.

    At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.

26. 26

    הֵןEven so,אָבִיFather:כִּיforכֵןsoהָיָהitרָצוֹןseemed goodלְפָנֶיךָ׃in your sight.

    Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight.

27. 27

    הַכֹּלAll thingsנִמְסַר־לִיare delivered unto meמֵאֵתofאָבִיmy Father:וְאֵיןand no manמַכִּירknowethאֶת־הַבֵּןthe Son,בִּלְתִּיbutהָאָבthe Father;וְאֵיןneitherמַכִּירknoweth any manאֶת־הָאָבthe Father,בִּלְתִּיsaveהַבֵּןthe Son,וַאֲשֶׁרand he to whomsoeverיַחְפֹּץwillהַבֵּןthe Sonלְגַלּוֹתrevealלוֹ׃him.

    All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.

28. 28

    פְּנוּComeאֵלַיunto me,כׇּל־הָעֲמֵלִיםall you that laborוְהַטְּעוּנִיםand are heavy laden,וַאֲנִיand Iאָנִיחַwill give rest.לָכֶם׃you

    Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

29. 29

    קַבְּלוּTakeעֲלֵיכֶםupon you,אֶת־עֻלִיmy yokeוְלִמְדוּand learnמִמֶּנִּיof me;כִּי־עָנָוfor meekוּשְׁפַלand lowly ofרוּחַspiritאָנֹכִיam I:וּמִצְאוּand you shall findמַרְגּוֹעַrestלְנַפְשֹׁתֵיכֶם׃unto your souls.

    Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

30. 30

    כִּיForעֻלִּיmy yokeנָעִיםis easy,וְקַלand is light.מַשָּׂאִי׃my burden

    For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
