   וַיִּקָּהֲלוּvay/yik/ka/ha/LUand gatheredאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himהַפְּרוּשִׁיםhap/Pe/ru/SHIMthe Phariseesוַאֲנָשִׁיםva/a/na/SHIMand menמִן־הַסּוֹפְרִיםmin-has/sof/RIMof the scribesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoבָּאוּBA/ucameמִירוּשָׁלָיִם׃mI/ru/sha/LA/yimfrom Jerusalem

   Then came together unto him the Pharisees, and certain of the scribes, which came from Jerusalem.

   And when they saw some of his disciples eat bread with defiled, that is to say, with unwashen, hands, they found fault.

   For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they wash their hands oft, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders.

   And when they come from the market, except they wash, they eat not. And many other things there be, which they have received to hold, as the washing of cups, and pots, brasen vessels, and of tables.

   Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands?

   וַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand he answeredוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themהֵיטֵבhe/TEVwellנִבָּאnib/BAprophesiedיְשַׁעְיָהוּYe/sha/YA/huEsaiasעֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMabout youהַחֲנֵפִיםha/cha/ne/FIMhypocritesכַּכָּתוּבkak/ka/TUVas it is writtenהָעָםha/AMthe peopleהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisבִּשְׂפָתָיוbis/fa/TAYVwith its lipsכִּבְּדוּנִיkib/be/DU/nihonor Meוְלִבּוֹve/lib/BObut its heartרִחַקri/CHAKis farמִמֶּנִּי׃mim/MEN/nifrom Me

   He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.

   וְתֹהוּve/TO/huand in vainיִרְאָתָםyir/a/TAMis their fearאֹתִיo/TIof Meמִצְוֹתmits/VOTthe commandments ofאֲנָשִׁיםa/na/SHIMmenמְלַמְּדִים׃me/lam/me/DIMteaching

   Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

8. 8

   כִּיkiforעֲזַבְתֶּםa/zav/TEMyou have leftאֶת־מִצְוַתet-mits/VATthe commandment ofאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodלְהַחֲזִיקle/ha/cha/ZIKto holdבְּמַסֹּרֶתbe/mas/SO/retthe tradition ofבְּנֵי־אָדָםbe/NE-a/DAMthe sons of menטְבִילוֹתte/vi/LOTimmersions ofכַּדִּיםkad/DIMjugsוְכֹסוֹתve/kho/SOTand cupsוְכָאֵלֶּהve/kha/EL/leand like theseרַבּוֹתrab/BOTmanyאַתֶּםat/TEMyouעֹשִׂים׃o/SIMdo

   For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themיָפֶהya/FEwellבִטַּלְתֶּםvit/tal/TEMyou have annulledאֶת־מִצְוַתet-mits/VATthe commandment ofהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodכְּדֵיke/DEsoשֶׁתִּשְׁמְרוּshet/tish/me/RUthat you keepאֶת־קַבָּלַתְכֶם׃et-kab/ba/lat/KHEMyour tradition

   And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.

10. 10

    כִּי־מֹשֶׁהki-Mo/SHEfor Mosesאָמַרa/MARsaidכַּבֵּדkab/BEDhonorאֶת־אָבִיךָet-a/VI/khayour fatherוְאֶת־אִמֶּךָve/ET-im/ME/khaand your motherוּמְקַלֵּלu/me/kal/LELand he who cursesאָבִיוa/VIVhis fatherוְאִמּוֹve/im/MOor his motherמוֹתmotdieיוּמָת׃yu/MAThe shall be put to death

    For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death:

11. 11

    וְאַתֶּםve/at/TEMbut youאֹמְרִיםom/RIMsayאִישׁisha manכִּי־יֹאמַרki-yo/MARif saysלְאָבִיוle/a/VIVto his fatherוּלְאִמּוֹu/le/im/MOor to his motherקׇרְבָּןkor/BANan offeringפֵּרוּשׁוֹpe/ru/SHOits meaningמַתָּנָהmat/ta/NAa giftמַה־שֶּׁאַתָּהma-she/at/TAwhatever youנֶהֱנֶהne/he/NEmight benefitלִיlifrom meפָּטוּרpa/TURexemptהוּא׃huhe is

    But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free.

12. 12

    וְלֹאve/LOand notתַנִּיחוּtan/ni/CHUyou letלוֹlohimלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTto doעוֹדodanymoreמְאוּמָהme/U/maanythingלְאָבִיוle/a/VIVfor his fatherוּלְאִמּוֹ׃u/le/im/MOor his mother

    And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother;

13. 13

    וַתָּפֵרוּvat/ta/FE/ruand you annulאֶת־דְּבַרet-de/VARthe word ofהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodעַל־יְדֵיal-ye/DEbyקַבָּלַתְכֶםkab/ba/lat/KHEMyour traditionאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatמְסַרְתֶּםme/sar/TEMyou have deliveredוְהַרְבֵּהve/har/BEand manyכָאֵלֶּהkha/EL/lelike theseאַתֶּםat/TEMyouעֹשִׂים׃o/SIMdo

    Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.

14. 14

    וַיִּקְרָאvay/yik/RAand he calledאֶל־כׇּל־הָעָםel-kol-ha/AMto all the peopleוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themשִׁמְעוּshim/Uhearאֵלַיe/LAYto meכֻּלְּכֶםkul/le/KHEMall of youוְהָבִינוּ׃ve/ha/VI/nuand understand

    And when he had called all the people unto him, he said unto them, Hearken unto me every one of you, and understand:

15. 15

    אֵיןenthere is notדָּבָרda/VARa thingמִחוּץmi/CHUTSoutsideלְאָדָםle/a/DAMa manאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatיוּכַלyu/KHALcanלְטַמֵּאle/tam/MEdefileאוֹתוֹo/TOhimבְּבֹאוּbe/VO/uby enteringאֶל־קִרְבּוֹel-kir/BOinto himכִּיkibutאִם־הַדְּבָרִיםim-had/de/va/RIMrather the thingsהַיּוֹצְאִיםhay/yots/IMthat come outמִמֶּנּוּmim/MEN/nufrom himהֵמָּהHEM/matheyיְטַמְּאוּye/tam/me/Udefileאֶת־הָאָדָם׃et-ha/a/DAMthe man

    There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man.

16. 16

    כׇּל־אֲשֶׁרkol-a/SHERwhoeverאׇזְנַיִםoz/NA/yimearsלוֹlohasלִשְׁמֹעַlish/MO/ato hearיִשְׁמָע׃yish/MAlet him hear

    If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.

17. 17

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenשָׁבshavhe returnedהַבַּיְתָהhab/BAY/tato the houseמִן־הֶהָמוֹןmin-he/ha/MONfrom the crowdוַיִּשְׁאָלֻהוּvay/yish/a/lu/HUasked himתַלְמִידָיוtal/mi/DAYVhis disciplesעַל־דְּבַרal-de/VARaboutהַמָּשָׁל׃ham/ma/SHALthe parable

    And when he was entered into the house from the people, his disciples asked him concerning the parable.

18. 18

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themהַאַף־אַתֶּםha/AF-at/TEMare even youחַסְרֵיchas/RElackingבִינָהvi/NAunderstandingהֲלֹאha/LOdo notתַשְׂכִּילוּtas/ki/LUyou understandכִּיkithatכׇל־הַבָּאkhol-hab/BAeverything that entersאֶל־תּוֹךְel-tokhintoהָאָדָםha/a/DAMthe manמִחוּצָהmi/CHU/tsafrom outsideלוֹlohimלֹאlonotיְטַמְּאֶנּוּ׃ye/tam/me/EN/nuwill defile him

    And he saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, it cannot defile him;

19. 19

    כִּיkibecauseלֹא־יָבוֹאlo-ya/VOit does not enterבְלִבּוֹve/lib/BOinto his heartכִּיkibutאִם־בִּכְרֵשׂוֹim-bikh/re/SOrather into his bellyוְיֵצֵאve/ye/TSEand goes outאֶל־בֵּיתel-betto the house ofהַכִּסֵּאhak/kis/SEthe seatהַמְנַקֶּהham/nak/KEcleansingכׇל־הַנֶּאֱכָל׃khol-han/ne/e/KHALall that is eaten

    Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats?

20. 20

    וַיֹּאמַרvay/yo/MARand he saidהַיֹּצֵאhay/yo/TSEwhat comes outמִן־הָאָדָםmin-ha/a/DAMof the manהוּאhuitמְטַמֵּאme/tam/MEdefilesאֶת־הָאָדָם׃et-ha/a/DAMthe man

    And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man.

21. 21

    כִּיkiforמִקֶּרֶבmik/KE/revfrom withinהָאָדָםha/a/DAMthe manמִלִּבּוֹmil/lib/BOout of his heartיֹצְאוֹתyots/OTproceedהַמַּחֲשָׁבוֹתham/ma/cha/sha/VOTthe thoughtsהָרָעוֹתha/ra/OTevilנָאֹףna/OFadulteryוְזָנֹהve/za/NOand fornicationוְרָצוֹחַ׃ve/ra/TSO/achand murder

    For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,

22. 22

    וְגָנוֹבve/ga/NOVand theftוְאַהֲבַתve/a/ha/VATand love ofבֶּצַעBE/tsagainוְרִשְׁעָהve/rish/Awickednessוּרְמִיָּהu/re/miy/YAdeceitוְזוֹלֲלוּתve/zo/la/LUTand licentiousnessוְעַיִןve/A/yinand an eyeרָעָהra/Aevilוְגִדּוּףve/gid/DUFblasphemyוְזָדוֹןve/za/DONand arroganceוְסִכְלוּת׃ve/sikh/LUTfoolishness

    Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:

23. 23

    כׇּל־הָרָעוֹתkol-ha/ra/OTall the evilsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseמִקֶּרֶבmik/KE/revfrom withinהָאָדָםha/a/DAMthe manהֵןhentheyיוֹצְאוֹתyots/OTcome outוּמְטַמְּאוֹתu/me/tam/me/OTand defileאֹתוֹ׃o/TOhim

    All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.

24. 24

    וַיָּקׇםvay/YA/komand he aroseמִשָּׁםmish/SHAMfrom thereוַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand wentלוֹlohis wayאֶל־גְּבוּלוֹתel-ge/vu/LOTinto the borders ofצוֹרTsorTyreוְצִידוֹןve/Tsi/DONand Sidonוּבְבוֹאוֹu/ve/vo/Oand when he enteredהַבַּיְתָהhab/BAY/tathe houseלֹאlonotאָבָהa/VAhe was willingשֶׁיִּוָּדַעshey/yiv/va/DAthat it be knownלְאִישׁle/ISHto any manוְלֹאve/LOand notיָכֹלya/KHOLhe couldלְהִסָּתֵר׃le/his/sa/TERbe hid

    And from thence he arose, and went into the borders of Tyre and Sidon, and entered into an house, and would have no man know it: but he could not be hid.

    כִּיkiforאִשָּׁהish/SHAa womanאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoseרוּחַRU/acha spirit ofטֻמְאָהtum/Auncleannessנִכְנְסָהnikh/ne/SAhad enteredבְּבִתָּהּbe/vit/TAinto her daughterהַקְּטַנָּהhak/ke/tan/NAlittleשָׁמְעָהsha/me/Aheardאֶת־שִׁמְעוֹet-shim/Ohis reportוַתָּבֹאvat/ta/VOand cameוַתִּפֹּלvat/tip/POLand fellלְרַגְלָיו׃le/rag/LAYVat his feet

    For a certain woman, whose young daughter had an unclean spirit, heard of him, and came and fell at his feet:

26. 26

    וְהָאִשָּׁהve/ha/ish/SHAand the woman wasיְוָנִיתYe/va/NITa Greekוְאֶרֶץve/E/retsand the land ofמוֹלַדְתָּהּmo/lad/TAher birthפְנִיקְיָאFe/ni/ke/YAPheniciaאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthat isלְסוּרְיָאle/Sur/YAof Syriaוַתְּבַקֵּשׁvat/te/vak/KESHand she askedמִמֶּנּוּmim/MEN/nuof himלְגָרֵשׁle/ga/RESHto cast outאֶת־הַשֵּׁדet-hash/SHEDthe demonמִבִּתָּהּ׃mib/bit/TAout of her daughter

    The woman was a Greek, a Syrophenician by nation; and she besought him that he would cast forth the devil out of her daughter.

27. 27

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵלֶיהָe/LE/hato herיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusהַנִּיחִיhan/ni/CHIletלַבָּנִיםlab/ba/NIMthe sonsלִשְׂבֹּעַlis/BO/abe satisfiedבָּרִאשׁוֹנָהba/ri/sho/NAfirstכִּיkiforלֹא־טוֹבlo-tovit is not goodלָקַחַתla/KA/chatto takeלֶחֶםLE/chemthe bread ofהַבָּנִיםhab/ba/NIMthe sonsוּלְהַשְׁלִיכוֹu/le/hash/li/KHOand to throw itלִצְעִירֵיlits/i/REto the young ofהַכְּלָבִים׃hak/ke/la/VIMthe dogs

    But Jesus said unto her, Let the children first be filled: for it is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it unto the dogs.

28. 28

    וַתַּעַןvat/TA/anand she answeredוַתֹּאמֶרvat/TO/merand saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himכֵּןkenyesאֲדֹנִיa/do/NImy Lordאֲבָלa/VALbutגַּם־צְעִירֵיgam-tse/i/REeven the young ofהַכְּלָבִיםhak/ke/la/VIMthe dogsיֹאכְלוּyo/khe/LUeatתַּחַתTA/chatunderהַשֻּׁלְחָןhash/shul/CHANthe tableמִפֵּרוּרֵיmip/pe/ru/REfrom the crumbs ofלֶחֶםLE/chemthe bread ofהַבָּנִים׃hab/ba/NIMthe sons

    And she answered and said unto him, Yes, Lord: yet the dogs under the table eat of the children's crumbs.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵלֶיהָe/LE/hato herבִּגְלַלbig/LALbecause ofדְּבָרֵךְde/va/REKHyour wordזֶהzethisלְכִי־לָךְle/KHI-lakhgoיָצָאya/TSAhas gone outהַשֵּׁדhash/SHEDthe demonמִבִּתֵּךְ׃mib/bit/TEKHfrom your daughter

    And he said unto her, For this saying go thy way; the devil is gone out of thy daughter.

30. 30

    וַתָּבֹאvat/ta/VOand she cameאֶל־בֵּיתָהּel-be/TAto her houseוַתִּמְצָאvat/tim/TSAand foundאֶת־הַיַּלְדָּהet-hay/yal/DAthe girlמֻשְׁכֶּבֶתmush/KE/vetlyingעַל־הַמִּטָּהal-ham/mit/TAupon the bedוְהַשֵּׁדve/hash/SHEDand the demonיָצָאya/TSAhad gone outמִמֶּנָּה׃mim/MEN/nafrom her

    And when she was come to her house, she found the devil gone out, and her daughter laid upon the bed.

31. 31

    וַיָּשׇׁבvay/YA/shovand he returnedוַיֵּצֵאvay/ye/TSEand went outמִגְּבוּלmig/ge/VULfrom the border ofצוֹרTsorTyreוְצִידוֹןve/Tsi/DONand Sidonוַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameאֶל־יָםel-yamto the sea ofהַגָּלִילHag/ga/LILGalileeבְּתוֹךְbe/TOKHthrough the midst ofגְּבוּלge/VULthe border ofעֶשֶׂרE/serthe tenהֶעָרִים׃he/a/RIMcities

    And again, departing from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon, he came unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis.

32. 32

    וַיָּבִיאוּvay/ya/VI/uand they broughtאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himאִישׁisha manאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatהָיָהha/YAwasחֵרֵשׁche/RESHdeafוּכְבַד־פֶּהu/khe/VAD-peand heavy of mouthוַיִּתְחַנֲנוּvay/yit/cha/na/NUand they pleadedלוֹlowith himלָשׂוּםla/SUMto putעָלָיוa/LAYVupon himאֶת־יָדוֹ׃et-ya/DOhis hand

    And they bring unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech; and they beseech him to put his hand upon him.

33. 33

    וַיִּקַּחvay/yik/KACHand he tookאֹתוֹo/TOhimלְבַדּוֹle/vad/DOaloneמִקֶּרֶבmik/KE/revfrom the midst ofהֶהָמוֹןhe/ha/MONthe crowdוַיָּשֶׂםvay/YA/semand putאֶת־אֶצְבְּעוֹתָיוet-ets/be/o/TAYVhis fingersבְּאׇזְנָיוbe/oz/NAYVinto his earsוַיָּרָקvay/ya/RAKand he spatוַיַּגַּעvay/yag/GAand touchedעַל־לְשֹׁנוֹ׃al-le/sho/NOhis tongue

    And he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue;

34. 34

    וַיַּבֵּטvay/yab/BETand he lookedהַשָּׁמַיְמָהhash/sha/MAY/matoward heavenוַיֵּאָנַחvay/ye/A/nachand sighedוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himאִפַּתַּחIp/pat/TACHEphphathaוּפֵרוּשׁוֹu/fe/ru/SHOand its meaningהִתְפַּתֵּחַ׃hit/pat/TE/achbe opened

    And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened.

35. 35

    וּבְרֶגַעu/ve/RE/gaand in a momentנִפְתְּחוּnif/te/CHUwere openedאׇזְנָיוoz/NAYVhis earsוַיֻּתַּרvay/yut/TARand was loosedאֵסוּרe/SURthe binding ofלְשׁוֹנוֹle/sho/NOhis tongueוַיְדַבֵּרvay/dab/BERand he spokeבְּשָׂפָהbe/sa/FAwith a lipבְרוּרָה׃ve/ru/RAclear

    And straightway his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain.

36. 36

    וַיְצַוvay/TSAVand he commandedעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMthemשֶׁלֹּא־יַגִּידוּshel/LO-yag/GI/duthat they not tellלְאִישׁle/ISHany manוְכַאֲשֶׁרve/kha/a/SHERand asיַזְהִירֵםyaz/hi/REMhe warned themכֵּןkensoיַרְבּוּyar/BUthey increasedלְהַשְׁמִיעַ׃le/hash/MI/ato make it heard

    And he charged them that they should tell no man: but the more he charged them, so much the more a great deal they published it;

37. 37

    And were beyond measure astonished, saying, He hath done all things well: he maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.
