1. 1

   וַיֵּצֵאAnd he went outמִשָּׁםfrom thence,וַיָּבֹאand cameאֶל־אַרְצוֹinto his own country;וַיֵּלְכוּand followאַחֲרָיוhim.תַּלְמִידָיו׃his disciples

   And he went out from thence, and came into his own country; and his disciples follow him.

2. 2

   וַיְהִיAnd whenבְּיוֹםon the dayהַשַּׁבָּתof the sabbath was come,וַיָּחֶלhe beganלְלַמֵּדto teachבְּבֵיתinהַכְּנֵסֶתthe synagogue:וַיִּשְׁמְעוּand hearing himרַבִּיםmanyוַיִּשְׁתּוֹמֲמוּwere astonished,וַיֹּאמְרוּsaying,מֵאַיִןFrom whenceלָאִישׁhath thisהַזֶּהmanכָּאֵלֶּהthese things?וּמַהand whatהַחׇכְמָהwisdomהַנְּתוּנָהis this which is givenלוֹunto him,עַד־אֲשֶׁרthatנַעֲשׂוּare wroughtגְּבוּרוֹתmighty worksכָּאֵלֶּהeven suchעַל־יָדָיו׃by his hands?

   And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands?

   הֲלֹאIs notהוּאthisהֶחָרָשׁthe carpenter,בֶּן־מִרְיָםthe son of Mary,וַאֲחִיthe brother ofיַעֲקֹבJames,וְיוֹסֵיand Joses,וִיהוּדָהand of Juda,וְשִׁמְעוֹןand Simon?וַהֲלֹאand are notאַחְיוֹתָיוhis sistersאִתָּנוּwith usפֹהhere?וַיְהִיAnd he becameלָהֶםunto themלְמִכְשׁוֹל׃an offense.

   Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.

4. 4

   וַיֹּאמֶרBut saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,יֵשׁוּעַJesusאֵיןis notהַנָּבִיאA prophetנִקְלֶהwithout honor,כִּיbutאִם־בְּאַרְצוֹin his own country,וּבֵיןand amongקְרוֹבָיוhis own kin,וּבְבֵיתוֹ׃and in his own house.

   But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.

   וְלֹאAnd notיָכֹלcould heלַעֲשׂוֹתdoשָׁםthereכׇּל־גְּבוּרָהno mighty work,רַקsave thatחַלָּשִׁיםupon sick folkמְעַטִּיםa few,שָׂםhe laidיָדָיוhis handsעֲלֵיהֶםupon them,וַיִּרְפָּאֵם׃and healed them.

   And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them.

   וַיִּתְמַהּAnd he marvelledעַל־חֶסְרוֹןbecause ofאֱמוּנָתָםtheir unbelief.וַיַּעֲבֹרAnd he wentבַּכְּפָרִיםthrough the villagesמִסָּבִיבround about,וַיְלַמֵּד׃teaching.

   And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching.

7. 7

   וַיִּקְרָאAnd he called unto himאֶל־שְׁנֵים־הֶעָשָׂרthe twelve,וַיָּחֶלand beganלִשְׁלֹחַto send forthאוֹתָםthemשְׁנַיִםby twoשְׁנָיִםand two;וַיִּתֵּןand gaveלָהֶםthemשׇׁלְטָןpowerעַל־רוּחוֹתover spirits;הַטֻּמְאָה׃unclean

   And he called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits;

8. 8

   וַיְצַוAnd commandedעֲלֵיהֶםthemאֲשֶׁרthatלֹא־יִקְחוּthey should takeמְאוּמָהnothingלַדֶּרֶךְfor their journey,זוּלָתִיsaveמַקֵּלa staffלְבַדּוֹonly;לֹאnoתַרְמִילscrip,וְלֹאnoלֶחֶםbread,וְלֹאnoמָעוֹתmoneyבַּחֲגוֹרָה׃in their purse:

   And commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, save a staff only; no scrip, no bread, no money in their purse:

9. 9

   וְלִהְיוֹתBut beנְעוּלֵיshodסַנְדָּלwith sandals;וּשְׁתֵּיand twoכֻתָּנוֹתcoats.לֹאnotיִלְבָּשׁוּ׃put on

   But be shod with sandals; and not put on two coats.

10. 10

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,כִּיIn what place soeverתָבֹאוּyou enterבֵּית־אִישׁinto an houseבְּאַחַדin one ofהַמְּקוֹמוֹתthe places,שְׁבוּ־בוֹthere abideעַדtillכִּי־תֵצְאוּyou departמִשָּׁם׃from that place.

    And he said unto them, In what place soever ye enter into an house, there abide till ye depart from that place.

11. 11

    וְכׇל־אֲשֶׁרAnd whosoeverלֹא־יַאַסְפוּshall not receiveאֶתְכֶםyou,וְלֹאnorיִשְׁמְעוּhearאֲלֵיכֶםyou,צְאוּwhen you departמִשָּׁםthence,וְנַעֲרוּshake offאֶת־עֲפַרthe dustכַּפּוֹתunderרַגְלֵיכֶםyour feetלְעֵדוּתfor a testimonyלָהֶםagainst them.אָמֵןVerilyאֲנִיIאֹמֵרsayלָכֶםunto you,לִסְדֹםfor Sodomוְלַעֲמֹרָהand GomorrhaיֵקַלIt shall be more tolerableבְּיוֹםin the day ofהַדִּיןjudgment,מִן־הָעִירthan for city.הַהִיא׃that

    And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.

12. 12

    וַיֵּצְאוּAnd they went out,וַיִּקְרְאוּand preachedלָשׁוּבthat men should returnבִּתְשׁוּבָה׃in repentance.

    And they went out, and preached that men should repent.

13. 13

    וַיְגָרְשׁוּAnd they cast outשֵׁדִיםdevilsרַבִּיםmanyוַיָּסוּכוּand anointedבַשֶּׁמֶןwith oilחַלָּשִׁיםthat were sickרַבִּיםmany,וַיִּרְפָּאוּם׃and healed them.

    And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them.

14. 14

    וַיִּשְׁמַעAnd heard of him;הַמֶּלֶךְkingהוֹרְדוֹסHerodשִׁמְעוֹhis fame,כִּי(forנוֹדַעwas spread abroadשְׁמוֹhis name:)וַיֹּאמַרand he said,יוֹחָנָןThat Johnהַמַּטְבִּילthe Baptistנֵעוֹרwas risenמִן־הַמֵּתִיםfrom the dead,וְעַל־כֵּןand thereforeפֹּעֲלִיםdo shew forth themselvesבּוֹin him.הַכֹּחוֹת׃mighty works

    And king Herod heard of him; (for his name was spread abroad:) and he said, That John the Baptist was risen from the dead, and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.

15. 15

    וְיֵשׁOthersאֹמְרִיםsaid,כִּיThatאֵלִיָּסEliasהוּאhe is.וַאֲחֵרִיםAnd othersאָמְרוּsaid,כִּי־נָבִיאThat a prophetהוּאhe is,אוֹorכְּאַחַדas oneהַנְּבִיאִים׃of the prophets.

    Others said, That it is Elias. And others said, That it is a prophet, or as one of the prophets.

16. 16

    וַיִּשְׁמַעBut when heard thereof,הוֹרְדוֹסHerodוַיֹּאמֶרhe said,יוֹחָנָןIt is John,אֲשֶׁרwhomאָנֹכִיIנָשָׂאתִיtook offאֶת־רֹאשׁוֹhis headמֵעָלָיוfrom him,הוּאheקָםis risenמִן־הַמֵּתִים׃from the dead.

    But when Herod heard thereof, he said, It is John, whom I beheaded: he is risen from the dead.

17. 17

    כִּיForהוּאhimselfהוֹרְדוֹסHerodשָׁלַחhad sent forthוַיִּתְפֹּשׂand laid holdאֶת־יוֹחָנָןupon John,וַיַּאַסְרֵהוּand bound himבְּבֵיתinהַסֹּהַרprisonבִּגְלַלforהוֹרוֹדְיָהHerodias' sake,אֵשֶׁתwife:פִילִפּוֹסPhilip'sאָחִיוhis brotherאֲשֶׁרforלְקָחָהּhe had taken herלוֹto himלְאִשָּׁה׃to wife.

    For Herod himself had sent forth and laid hold upon John, and bound him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife: for he had married her.

18. 18

    כִּיForיוֹחָנָןJohnאָמַרhad saidאֶל־הוֹרְדוֹסunto Herod,אֵשֶׁתwife.אָחִיךָyour brother'sאֵינֶנָּהIt is notמֻתֶּרֶתlawfulלָךְ׃for you to have

    For John had said unto Herod, It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother's wife.

19. 19

    וַתִּשְׂטֹםTherefore had a quarrel againstאוֹתוֹhim,הוֹרוֹדְיָהHerodiasוַתְּבַקֵּשׁand would haveהֲמִיתוֹkilled him;וְלֹאbutמָצָאָה׃she could not:

    Therefore Herodias had a quarrel against him, and would have killed him; but she could not:

20. 20

    כִּיForהוֹרְדוֹסHerodיָרֵאfearedאֶת־יוֹחָנָןJohn,בַּאֲשֶׁרin thatיָדַעhe knewכִּי־אִישׁthat he was aצַדִּיקjust manוְקָדוֹשׁand an holy,הוּאhe was,וַיִּשְׁמֹרand observedעָלָיוhim;וְהַרְבֵּהand many thingsעָשָׂהhe did,וַיֶּעֱרַבand it pleasedלוֹhimלִשְׁמֹעַto hearאֹתוֹ׃him gladly.

    For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just man and an holy, and observed him; and when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly.

21. 21

    וַיְהִיAnd whenהַיּוֹםa dayהַמֻּכְשָׁרconvenient was come,כַּאֲשֶׁרthatעָשָׂהmadeהוֹרְדוֹסHerodמִשְׁתֶּהa supperבְּיוֹםonהֻלֶּדֶתthe birth ofאֹתוֹhimself,לִגְדוֹלָיוto his lords,וּלְשָׂרֵיand to the captains ofהָאֲלָפִיםthousands,וּלְרָאשֵׁיand chief estates ofהַגָּלִיל׃Galilee;

    And when a convenient day was come, that Herod on his birthday made a supper to his lords, high captains, and chief estates of Galilee;

22. 22

    וַתָּבֹאAnd when came inבַת־הוֹרוֹדְיָהthe daughter of the said Herodias,וַתְּרַקֵּדand danced,וַתִּיטַבand pleasedבְּעֵינֵיin the eyes ofהוֹרְדוֹסHerodוּבְעֵינֵיand themהַמְסֻבִּיםthat satעִמּוֹwith him,וַיֹּאמֶרsaidהַמֶּלֶךְthe kingאֶל־הַנַּעֲרָהunto the damsel,שַׁאֲלִיAskמִמֶּנִּיof meאֶת־אֲשֶׁרwhatsoeverתַּחְפְּצִיyou will,וְאֶתֵּןand I will give itלָךְ׃you.

    And when the daughter of the said Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and them that sat with him, the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I will give it thee.

23. 23

    וַיִּשָּׁבַעAnd he swareלָהּunto her,לֵאמֹרsaying,כׇּל־אֲשֶׁרWhatsoeverתִּשְׁאֲלִיyou shall askמִמֶּנִּיof me,אֶתֶּן־לָךְI will give it you,עַד־חֲצִיunto the half ofהַמַּלְכוּת׃my kingdom.

    And he sware unto her, Whatsoever thou shalt ask of me, I will give it thee, unto the half of my kingdom.

24. 24

    וַתֵּצֵאAnd she went forth,וַתֹּאמֶרand saidלְאִמָּהּunto her mother,מָהWhatאֶשְׁאָלshall I ask?וַתֹּאמֶרAnd she said,אֶת־רֹאשׁThe head ofיוֹחָנָןJohnהַמַּטְבִּיל׃the Baptist.

    And she went forth, and said unto her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist.

25. 25

    וַתְּמַהֵרAnd she came inמְאֹדstraightwayלָבוֹאwith hasteאֶל־הַמֶּלֶךְunto the king,וַתִּשְׁאַלand asked,לֵאמֹרsaying,רְצוֹנִיI willשֶׁתִּתֵּןthat you giveלִיmeעַתָּהby and byבַקְּעָרָהin a chargerאֶת־רֹאשׁthe head ofיוֹחָנָןJohnהַמַּטְבִּיל׃the Baptist.

    And she came in straightway with haste unto the king, and asked, saying, I will that thou give me by and by in a charger the head of John the Baptist.

26. 26

    וַיִּתְעַצֵּבAnd was sorryהַמֶּלֶךְthe kingמְאֹדexceedingly;אַךְyetבַּעֲבוּרforהַשְּׁבוּעָהhis oath's sake,וּבַעֲבוּרand for their sakes whichהַמְסֻבִּיםsatעִמּוֹwith him,לֹאnotרָצָהhe wouldלְהָשִׁיבrejectפָּנֶיהָ׃her.

    And the king was exceeding sorry; yet for his oath's sake, and for their sakes which sat with him, he would not reject her.

27. 27

    וּמִיָּדAnd immediatelyשָׁלַחsentהַמֶּלֶךְthe kingאַחַדanהַטַּבָּחִיםexecutioner,וַיְצַוֵּהוּand commandedלְהָבִיאto be brought:אֶת־רֹאשׁוֹhis headוַיֵּלֶךְand he wentוַיִּכְרֹתand cut offאֶת־רֹאשׁוֹhis headבְּבֵיתinהַסֹּהַר׃the prison,

    And immediately the king sent an executioner, and commanded his head to be brought: and he went and beheaded him in the prison,

28. 28

    וַיְבִיאֵהוּAnd brought his headבַּקְּעָרָהin a charger,וַיִּתְּנֵהוּand gave itלַנַּעֲרָהto the damsel:וְהַנַּעֲרָהand the damselנָתְנָהgave itאֶל־אִמָּהּ׃to her mother.

    And brought his head in a charger, and gave it to the damsel: and the damsel gave it to her mother.

29. 29

    וַיִּשְׁמְעוּAnd when had heard of it,תַּלְמִידָיוhis disciplesוַיָּבֹאוּthey cameוַיִּשְׂאוּand took upאֶת־גְּוִיָּתוֹhis corpse,וַיְשִׂימוּהָand laid itבַּקָּבֶר׃in a tomb.

    And when his disciples heard of it, they came and took up his corpse, and laid it in a tomb.

30. 30

    וַיִּקָּהֲלוּAnd gathered themselves togetherהַשְּׁלִיחִיםthe apostlesאֶל־יֵשׁוּעַunto Jesus,וַיַּגִּידוּand toldלוֹhimאֶת־כׇּל־אֲשֶׁרall things, both whatעָשׂוּthey had done,וְאֶת־כׇּל־אֲשֶׁרand whatלִמֵּדוּ׃they had taught.

    And the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus, and told him all things, both what they had done, and what they had taught.

31. 31

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,בֹּאוּCome youאַתֶּםyourselvesלְבַדְּכֶםapartאֶל־מְקוֹםinto a place,חׇרְבָּהdesertוְנוּחוּand restמְעָטa while:כִּיforרַבִּיםmanyהָיוּthere wereהַבָּאִיםcomingוְהַיֹּצְאִיםand going,עַד־לְאֵין־עֵתfor they had no leisureלָהֶםso much as,לֶאֱכוֹל׃to eat.

    And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.

32. 32

    וַיֵּלְכוּAnd they departedמִשָּׁםfrom thenceבׇּאֳנִיָּהby shipאֶל־אַחַתinto a placeהֶחֳרָבוֹתdesertלְבָדָד׃privately.

    And they departed into a desert place by ship privately.

33. 33

    וְהֶהָמוֹןAnd the peopleרָאָהsawאוֹתָםthemיֹצְאִיםdeparting,וַיַּכִּירֻהוּand knew him,רַבִּיםmany,וַיָּרוּצוּand ranשָׁמָּהthitherבְּרַגְלֵיהֶםon foot,מִכׇּלout of allהֶעָרִיםcities,וַיַּעַבְרוּand outwentאוֹתָםthem,וַיֵּאָסְפוּand came togetherאֵלָיו׃unto him.

    And the people saw them departing, and many knew him, and ran afoot thither out of all cities, and outwent them, and came together unto him.

34. 34

    וַיֵּצֵאAnd when he came out,יֵשׁוּעַJesusוַיַּרְאsawהֲמוֹןa multitudeעַםof peopleרָבgreat,וַיֶּהֱמוּand yearnedמֵעָיוhis bowelsלָהֶםtoward them,כִּיbecauseהָיוּthey wereכַּצֹּאןas sheepאֲשֶׁרwhichאֵין־לָהֶםnot havingרֹעֶהa shepherd:וַיָּחֶלand he beganלְלַמֵּדto teachאוֹתָםthemדְּבָרִיםthingsהַרְבֵּה׃many.

    And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.

35. 35

    וַיְהִיAnd whenכַּאֲשֶׁרwhenרָפָהwas now far spent,הַיּוֹםthe dayלַעֲרוֹבtoward evening,וַיִּגְּשׁוּcameאֵלָיוunto him,תַּלְמִידָיוhis disciplesוַיֹּאמְרוּand said,הִנֵּהThis isהַמָּקוֹםa place,חָרֵבdesertוְהַיּוֹםand now the dayרַדis far passedמְאֹד׃exceedingly:

    And when the day was now far spent, his disciples came unto him, and said, This is a desert place, and now the time is far passed:

36. 36

    שַׁלַּחSendאוֹתָםthem away,וְיֵלְכוּthat they may goאֶל־הַחֲצֵרִיםinto the country round about,וְהַכְּפָרִיםand the villagesמִסָּבִיבround about,לִקְנוֹתand buyלָהֶםthemselvesלָחֶםbread:כִּיforאֵין־לָהֶםthey have nothingמַה־שֶּׁיֹּאכֵלוּ׃to eat.

    Send them away, that they may go into the country round about, and into the villages, and buy themselves bread: for they have nothing to eat.

37. 37

    וַיַּעַןHe answeredוַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,תְּנוּGiveאַתֶּםyouלָהֶםthemלֶאֱכֹלto eat.וַיֹּאמְרוּAnd they sayאֵלָיוunto him,הֲנֵלֵךְShall we goלִקְנוֹתand buyלֶחֶםbread,בְּמָאתַיִםtwo hundredדִּינָרpennyworth ofלָתֵתand giveלָהֶםthemלֶאֱכֹל׃to eat?

    He answered and said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they say unto him, Shall we go and buy two hundred pennyworth of bread, and give them to eat?

38. 38

    וַיֹּאמֶרHe saithאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,כַּמָּהHow manyכִכְּרוֹת־לֶחֶםloavesיֵשׁhaveלָכֶםyou?לְכוּgoוּרְאוּand see.וַיֵּדְעוּAnd when they knew,וַיֹּאמְרוּthey say,חָמֵשׁFive,וּשְׁנֵיand twoדָגִים׃fishes.

    He saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? go and see. And when they knew, they say, Five, and two fishes.

39. 39

    וַיְצַוAnd he commandedאוֹתָםthemלָשֶׁבֶתto make sit downכֻּלָּםallחֲבֻרָהby companiesחֲבֻרָהcompany by company,לְבַדapart,עַל־יְרַקupon the greenהַדֶּשֶׁא׃grass.

    And he commanded them to make all sit down by companies upon the green grass.

40. 40

    וַיֵּשְׁבוּAnd they sat downשׁוּרוֹתin ranks,שׁוּרוֹתrank by rank,לְמֵאוֹתby hundreds,וְלַחֲמִשִּׁים׃and by fifties.

    And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds, and by fifties.

41. 41

    וַיִּקַּחAnd when he had takenאֶת־חֲמֵשֶׁתthe fiveכִּכְּרוֹתloavesהַלֶּחֶםof breadוְאֶת־שְׁנֵיand the twoהַדָּגִיםfishes,וַיִּשָּׂאhe lifted upעֵינָיוhis eyesהַשָּׁמַיְמָהto heaven,וַיְבָרֶךְand blessed,וַיִּפְרֹסand brakeאֶת־הַלֶּחֶםthe loaves,וַיִּתֵּןand gave themלְתַלְמִידָיוto his disciplesלָשׂוּםto setלִפְנֵיהֶםbefore them;וְאֶת־שְׁנֵיand the twoהַדָּגִיםfishesחִלֵּקdivided heלְכֻלָּם׃among them all.

    And when he had taken the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and brake the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before them; and the two fishes divided he among them all.

42. 42

    וַיֹּאכְלוּAnd they did eatכֻלָּםall,וַיִּשְׂבָּעוּ׃and were filled.

    And they did all eat, and were filled.

43. 43

    וַיִּשְׂאוּAnd they took upמִן־הַפְּתוֹתִיםof the fragments,מְלוֹאfullסַלִּיםbasketsשְׁנֵים־עָשָׂרtwelveוְגַםandמִן־הַדָּגִים׃of the fishes.

    And they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments, and of the fishes.

44. 44

    וְהָאֹכְלִיםAnd they that did eatמִן־הַלֶּחֶםof the loavesהָיוּwereכַּחֲמֵשֶׁתabout fiveאַלְפֵיthousandאִישׁ׃men.

    And they that did eat of the loaves were about five thousand men.

45. 45

    וְאַחֲרֵי־כֵןAnd straightwayהֵאִיץhe constrainedבְּתַלְמִידָיוhis disciplesלָרֶדֶתto getבׇּאֳנִיָּהinto the ship,וְלַעֲבוֹרand to goלְפָנָיוbeforeאֶל־עֵבֶרto the other sideהַיָּםof the sea,אֶל־בֵּית־צָיְדָהunto Bethsaida,עַד־שַׁלְּחוֹwhile he sent awayאֶת־הָעָם׃the people.

    And straightway he constrained his disciples to get into the ship, and to go to the other side before unto Bethsaida, while he sent away the people.

46. 46

    וַיְהִיAnd whenאַחַרhe hadשַׁלְּחוֹsentאֹתָםthem away,וַיַּעַלhe departedהָהָרָהinto a mountainלְהִתְפַּלֵּל׃to pray.

    And when he had sent them away, he departed into a mountain to pray.

47. 47

    וַיְהִי־עֶרֶבAnd when even was come,וְהׇאֳנִיָּהthe shipבָאָהwasבְּתוֹךְin the midst ofהַיָּםthe sea,וְהוּאand heלְבַדּוֹaloneבַּיַּבָּשָׁה׃on the land.

    And when even was come, the ship was in the midst of the sea, and he alone on the land.

    וַיַּרְאAnd he sawאוֹתָםthemמִתְיַגְּעִיםtoilingבְּשׁוּטָםin rowing;כִּיforהָרוּחַthe windלְנֶגְדָּםwas contrary unto them:וַיְהִיandכְּעֵתaboutהָאַשְׁמֹרֶתthe watchהָרְבִיעִיתfourthוַיָּבֹאof the night he comethאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,מִתְהַלֵּךְwalkingעַל־פְּנֵיuponהַיָּםthe sea,וַיּוֹאֶלand would haveלַעֲבוֹרpassed byלִפְנֵיהֶם׃them.

    And he saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them: and about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them.

49. 49

    וַיִּרְאוּBut when they sawאֹתוֹhimמִתְהַלֵּךְwalkingעַל־פְּנֵיuponהַיָּםthe sea,וַיֹּאמְרוּthey supposedמַרְאֵה־רוּחַa spiritהוּאit was,וַיִּצְעָקוּ׃and cried out:

    But when they saw him walking upon the sea, they supposed it had been a spirit, and cried out:

50. 50

    כִּי־כֻלָּםFor they allרָאוּהוּsaw him,וַיִּבָּהֵלוּand were troubled.אָזAnd immediatelyדִבֶּרhe talkedאִתָּםwith them,וַיֹּאמֶרand saithאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,חִזְקוּBe of good cheer:כִּי־אֲנִיfor Iהוּאam he;אַל־תִּירָאוּ׃be not afraid.

    For they all saw him, and were troubled. And immediately he talked with them, and saith unto them, Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid.

51. 51

    וַיֵּרֶדAnd he went upאֲלֵיהֶםunto themבׇּאֳנִיָּהinto the ship;וְהָרוּחַand the windשָׁכָכָהceased:וַיִּשְׁתּוֹמֵםand they were sore amazedלִבָּםin themselvesעוֹד־יוֹתֵרbeyond measure,וַיִּתְמָהוּ׃and wondered.

    And he went up unto them into the ship; and the wind ceased: and they were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure, and wondered.

52. 52

    כִּיForלֹאnotהִשְׂכִּילוּthey consideredבִּדְבַר־כִּכְּרוֹתthe miracle ofהַלָּחֶםthe loaves:מִפְּנֵיforקְשִׁיwas hardened.לְבָבָם׃their heart

    For they considered not the miracle of the loaves: for their heart was hardened.

53. 53

    וַיַּעַבְרוּAnd when they had passed overאֶת־הַיָּםthe sea,וַיָּבֹאוּthey cameאַרְצָהinto the land ofגִּנֵּיסַרGennesaret,וַיִּקְרְבוּand drewאֶל־הַיַּבָּשָׁה׃to the shore.

    And when they had passed over, they came into the land of Gennesaret, and drew to the shore.

54. 54

    וַיְהִיAndכְּצֵאתָםwhen they were come outמִן־הׇאֳנִיָּהof the ship,וַיַּכִּירֻהוּ׃straightway they knew him,

    And when they were come out of the ship, straightway they knew him,

55. 55

    וַיָּרוּצוּAnd ran throughבְּכׇל־הַכִּכָּרall the regionהַהוּאthat,מִסָּבִיבround about,וַיָּחֵלּוּand beganלָשֵׂאתto carry aboutאֶת־הַחֹלִיםthose that were sickבְּמִשְׁכָּבוֹתin bedsאֶל־כׇּל־מָקוֹםinto every placeאֲשֶׁרwhereשָׁמְעוּthey heardכִּיthatהוּאheשָׁם׃was.

    And ran through that whole region round about, and began to carry about in beds those that were sick, where they heard he was.

56. 56

    וּבְכׇל־מָקוֹםAnd in every placeאֲשֶׁרwhitherיָבֹאhe entered,אֶל־הַכְּפָרִיםinto villages,אוֹorאֶל־הֶעָרִיםcities,וְאֶל־הַשָׂדוֹתor country,שָׁםthereשָׂמוּthey laidאֶת־הַחוֹלִיםthe sickבַּחוּצוֹתin the streets,וַיִּתְחַנְּנוּand besoughtלוֹhimשֶׁיִּגְּעוּthat they might touchרַקif it were butבִּכְנַףthe border ofבִּגְדוֹhis garment:וְהָיָהand as manyכֹּלasאֲשֶׁרthatנָגְעוּ־בוֹtouched himוְנוֹשָׁעוּ׃were made whole.

    And whithersoever he entered, into villages, or cities, or country, they laid the sick in the streets, and besought him that they might touch if it were but the border of his garment: and as many as touched him were made whole.
