1. 1

   וַיָּבֹאוּAnd they came overאֶל־עֵבֶרunto the other side ofהַיָּםthe sea,אֶל־אֶרֶץinto the country ofהַגַּדְרִיִּם׃the Gadarenes.

   And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes.

2. 2

   הוּאAnd when heיָצָאwas comeמִן־הׇאֳנִיָּהout of the ship,וְהִנֵּה־אִישׁand behold a manאֲשֶׁר־רוּחַwho had a spiritטֻמְאָהuncleanבּוֹin himבָּאcameלִקְרָאתוֹto meet him,מִבֵּיןout ofהַקְּבָרִים׃the tombs

   And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,

3. 3

   וּמוֹשָׁבוֹWho had his dwellingבַּקְּבָרִיםamong the tombs;וְגַםandבַּעֲבֹתִיםwith chainsלֹא־יָכֹלcould notאִישׁno manלְאָסְרוֹ׃bind him:

   Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains:

4. 4

   כִּי־פְעָמִיםBecause manyהַרְבֵּהtimes,אֲסָרוּהוּhe had been boundבִּכְבָלִיםwith fettersוּבַעֲבֹתִיםand chains,וַיְנַתֵּקand had been plucked asunder by himאֶת־הָעֲבֹתִיםthe chains,וַיְשַׁבֵּרand broken in pieces:אֶת־הַכְּבָלִיםthe fettersוְאִישׁand no manלֹאnotעָצַרretainedכֹּחַstrength,לְכָבְשׁוֹ׃to tame him.

   Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him.

5. 5

   וְהוּאAndתָמִידalways,לַיְלָהnightוְיוֹמָםand day,בֶּהָרִיםhe was in the mountains,וּבַקְּבָרִיםand in the tombs,צֹעֵקcrying,וּפֹצֵעַand cuttingאֶת־עַצְמוֹhimselfבָּאֲבָנִים׃with stones.

   And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.

6. 6

   וַיְהִיBut whenכִּרְאֹתוֹhe sawאֶת־יֵשׁוּעַJesusמֵרָחוֹקafar off,וַיָּרׇץhe ranוַיִּשְׁתַּחוּand worshipedלוֹ׃him,

   But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him,

7. 7

   וַיִּזְעַקAnd criedקוֹלwith a voice,גָּדוֹלloudוַיֹּאמֶרand said,מַה־לִיWhat have I to doוָלָךְwith you,יֵשׁוּעַJesus,בֶּן־אֵלyou Son ofעֶלְיוֹןthe most high God?הִנְנִיI adjureמַשְׁבִּיעֲךָyouבֵּאלֹהִיםby God,אֲשֶׁרthatלֹאnot.תְעַנֵּנִי׃you torment me

   And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.

8. 8

   כִּיForהוּאheאָמַרsaidאֵלָיוunto him,צֵאCome outרוּחַyou spiritהַטֻּמְאָהunclean,מִן־הָאָדָםout of the manהַזֶּה׃this,

   For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.

9. 9

   וַיִּשְׁאַלAnd he askedאֹתוֹhim,מַה־שְּׁמֶךָWhat is your name?וַיַּעַןAnd he answered,וַיֹּאמֶרsaying,לִגְיוֹןLegion:שְׁמִיMy name isכִּי־רַבִּיםfor many.אֲנָחְנוּ׃we are

   And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.

10. 10

    וַיִּתְחַנֵּןAnd he besoughtאֵלָיוhimמְאֹדmuchלְבִלְתִּיthat he would notשַׁלְּחָםsend them awayאֶל־מִחוּץout ofלָאָרֶץ׃the country.

    And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country.

11. 11

    וְעֵדֶרNow a herdחֲזִירִיםof swineרַבִּיםgreatהָיָהwasשָׁםthereרֹעֶהfeedingבְּמוֹרַדnigh untoהֶהָרִים׃the mountains.

    Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding.

12. 12

    וַיִּתְחַנֲנוּ־לוֹAnd besought him,כׇל־הַשֵּׁדִיםall the devilsלֵאמֹרsaying,שַׁלְּחֵנוּSend usאֶל־הַחֲזִירִיםinto the swine,וְנָבֹאָהthat we may enterאֶל־תּוֹכָם׃into them.

    And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.

13. 13

    וַיַּנַּחAnd forthwith Jesus gave leaveלָהֶםthem.וַיֵּצְאוּAnd went out,רוּחוֹתspiritsהַטֻּמְאָהthe uncleanוַיָּבֹאוּand enteredבַּחֲזִירִיםinto the swine:וַיִּשְׂתָּעֵרand ran violentlyהָעֵדֶרthe herdמִן־הַמּוֹרָדdown a steep placeאֶל־הַיָּםinto the sea,וְהֵם(they wereכְּאַלְפַּיִםabout two thousandבְּמִסְפָּרin number;)וַיְטֻבְּעוּand were chokedבַּיָּם׃in the sea.

    And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea.

14. 14

    וַיָּנוּסוּAnd fled,רֹעֵיthey that fedהַחֲזִירִיםthe swineוַיַּגִּידוּand toldאֶת־הַדָּבָרitבָּעִירin the city,וּבַשָׂדוֹתand in the country.וַיֵּצְאוּAnd they went outלִרְאוֹתto seeאֶת־אֲשֶׁר־נִהְיָתָה׃what it was that was done.

    And they that fed the swine fled, and told it in the city, and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that was done.

15. 15

    וַיָּבֹאוּAnd they comeאֶל־יֵשׁוּעַto Jesus,וַיִּרְאוּand seeאֶת־אֲחוּזhim that was possessed withהַשֵּׁדִיםthe devil,אֲשֶׁרand hadהַלִּגְיוֹןthe legion,בּוֹin him,וְהוּאand heיוֹשֵׁבsitting,מְלֻבָּשׁand clothedבְּגָדִיםwith garments,וְטוֹב־שֵׁכֶלand in his right mind:וַיִּירָאוּ׃and they were afraid.

    And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.

16. 16

    וַיַּגִּידוּAnd toldלָהֶםthemהָרֹאִיםthey that saw itאֶת־אֲשֶׁרhowנַעֲשָׂהit befellלַאֲחוּזto him that was possessed withהַשֵּׁדִיםthe devil,וְאֶת־דְּבַרand also concerningהַחֲזִירִים׃the swine.

    And they that saw it told them how it befell to him that was possessed with the devil, and also concerning the swine.

17. 17

    וַיִּתְחַנֲנוּAnd they began to prayלוֹhimלָסוּרto departמִגְּבוּלֵיהֶם׃out of their coasts.

    And they began to pray him to depart out of their coasts.

18. 18

    וַיְהִיAnd whenבְּרִדְתּוֹhe was comeאֶל־הׇאֳנִיָּהinto the ship,וַיִּתְחַנֵּןbesoughtאֵלָיוhimהָאִישׁthe manאֲשֶׁרwhoהָיָהhad beenאֲחוּזpossessed withשֵׁדִיםthe devilלְתִתּוֹthat he mightלָשֶׁבֶתbeעִמּוֹ׃with him.

    And when he was come into the ship, he that had been possessed with the devil prayed him that he might be with him.

19. 19

    וְלֹאButהִנִּיחַhe suffered notלוֹhim,וַיֹּאמֶרbut saithאֵלָיוunto him,שׁוּבGoלְבֵיתְךָhomeאֶל־מִשְׁפַּחְתֶּךָto your friends,וְהַגֵּדand tellלָהֶםthemאֶת־הַגְּדֹלוֹתhow great thingsאֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂהhath doneלְךָfor you,הָאָדוֹןthe Lordוַיְחֻנֶּךָּ׃and hath had compassion on you.

    Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.

20. 20

    וַיֵּלֶךְAnd he departed,וַיִּקְרָאand began to publishבְּעֶשֶׂרin the tenהֶעָרִיםcities (Decapolis),אֶת־הַגְּדוֹלוֹתhow great thingsאֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂהhad doneלוֹfor him:יֵשׁוּעַJesusוַיִּתְמְהוּand did marvel.כֻּלָּם׃all men

    And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men did marvel.

21. 21

    וַיָּשׇׁבAnd when was passed overיֵשׁוּעַJesusלַעֲבֹרagainבׇּאֳנִיָּהby shipאֶל־עֵבֶרunto the other sideהַיָּםof the sea,וַיִּקָּהֵלgatheredאֵלָיוunto him:הָמוֹןpeopleרָבmuchוְהוּאand he wasעַל־שְׂפַתnigh untoהַיָּם׃the sea.

    And when Jesus was passed over again by ship unto the other side, much people gathered unto him: and he was nigh unto the sea.

22. 22

    וְהִנֵּה־בָאAnd, behold, there comethאֶחָדoneמֵרָאשֵׁיof the rulers ofהַכְּנֵסֶתthe synagogue,וּשְׁמוֹby name;יָאִירJairusוַיַּרְאand when he sawאֹתוֹhim,וַיִּפֹּלhe fellלְרַגְלָיו׃at his feet,

    And, behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet,

23. 23

    וַיִּתְחַנֵּןAnd besoughtאֵלָיוhimמְאֹדgreatly,לֵאמֹרsaying,בִּתִּיMy daughterהַקְּטַנָּהlittleחָלְתָהlieth at the point ofעַד־לָמוּתdeath:אָנָּאI pray you,בוֹא־נָאcomeוְשִׂיםand layיָדֶיךָyour handsעָלֶיהָon her,לְמַעַןthatתִּוָּשַׁעshe may be healed;וְתִחְיֶה׃and she shall live.

    And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live.

24. 24

    וַיֵּלֶךְAnd wentאִתּוֹwith him;וַיֵּלְכוּand followedאַחֲרָיוhim,הָמוֹןpeopleרָבmuchוַיִּדְחָקֻהוּ׃and thronged him.

    And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him.

25. 25

    וְאִשָּׁהAnd a certain woman,הָיְתָהwhich hadבְּזוֹבan issue ofדָּמֶיהָbloodשְׁתֵּים־עֶשְׂרֵהtwelveשָׁנָה׃years,

    And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,

26. 26

    וְהִיאAndנַעֲנָהhad sufferedהַרְבֵּהmany thingsתַּחַתatיְדֵיthe hands ofרֹפְאִיםphysiciansרַבִּיםmany,וְהוֹצִיאָהand had spentאֶת־כֹּלallאֲשֶׁר־לָהּthat she had,וְלֹאandלְהוֹעִילwas nothing bettered,כִּיbutאִםratherכָּבְדָהgrewמַחֲלָתָהּworse,מְאֹד׃exceedingly.

    And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse,

27. 27

    וַיְהִיWhenכְּשָׁמְעָהּshe had heardאֶת־שֵׁמַעofיֵשׁוּעַJesus,וַתָּבוֹאcameבְּתוֹךְin the pressהֲמוֹןof the multitudeהָעָםof the people,מֵאַחֲרָיוbehind,וַתִּגַּעand touchedבְּבִגְדוֹ׃his garment.

    When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.

28. 28

    כִּיForאָמְרָהshe said,אַךְIf butאֶגַּעI may touchבִּבְגָדָיוhis clothes,וְאִוָּשֵׁעָה׃I shall be whole.

    For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.

29. 29

    וַיִּיבַשׁAnd was dried upמְקוֹרthe fountain ofדָּמֶיהָher bloodפִּתְאֹםstraightway;וַתָּבֶןand she feltבִּבְשָׂרָהin her bodyכִּיthatנִרְפָּאshe was healedנִגְעָהּ׃of that plague.

    And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.

30. 30

    וּבְרֶגַעAnd immediatelyיָדַעknewיֵשׁוּעַJesus,בְּנַפְשׁוֹin himselfכִּיthatגְּבוּרָהvirtueיָצְאָהhad gone outמִמֶּנּוּof him,וַיִּפֶןturned him aboutבְּתוֹךְin the midst ofהָעָםthe people,וַיֹּאמֶרand said,מִיWhoנָגַעtouchedבִּבְגָדָי׃my clothes?

    And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?

31. 31

    וַיֹּאמְרוּAnd saidאֵלָיוunto him,תַּלְמִידָיוhis disciplesהִנְּךָYouרֹאֶהseestאֶת־הֶהָמוֹןthe multitudeדּוֹחֵקthrongingאֹתְךָyou,וְאָמַרְתָּand say you,מִי־נָגַעWho touchedבִּי׃me?

    And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?

32. 32

    וַיַּבֵּטAnd he lookedסָבִיבround aboutלִרְאוֹתto seeאֶת־אֲשֶׁרher thatעָשְׂתָהhad doneזֹּאת׃this thing.

    And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing.

33. 33

    וְהָאִשָּׁהBut the womanיָרְאָהfearingוְחָרְדָהand trembling,כִּיforיָדְעָהknowingאֶת־אֲשֶׁרwhatנַעֲשָׂהwas doneלָהּin her,וַתָּבֹאcameוַתִּפֹּלand fell downלְפָנָיוbefore him,וַתַּגֶּד־לוֹand told himאֵת־כׇּלallהָאֱמֶת׃the truth.

    But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.

34. 34

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saidאֵלֶיהָunto her,בִּתִּיDaughter,אֱמוּנָתֵךְyour faithהוֹשִׁיעָהhath savedלָּךְyou;לְכִיgoלְשָׁלוֹםin peace,וְחָיִיתand be wholeמִנִּגְעֵךְ׃of your plague.

    And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.

35. 35

    עוֹדֶנּוּWhile he yetמְדַבֵּרspake,וְהִנֵּהbehold there cameאֲנָשִׁיםcertain menבָּאִיםcomingמִבֵּית־רֹאשׁfrom the house of the ruler ofהַכְּנֵסֶתthe synagogue,וַיֹּאמְרוּwhich said,בִּתְּךָYour daughterמֵתָהis dead:לָמָּהwhyתַטְרִיחַ־עוֹדtroublest you any further?אֶת־הַמּוֹרֶה׃the Master

    While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue's house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further?

36. 36

    וְכִשְׁמֹעַAs soon as heardיֵשׁוּעַJesusאֶת־הַדָּבָרthe wordאֲשֶׁרthatדִּבֵּרוּwas spoken,וַיֹּאמֶרhe saithאֶל־רֹאשׁto the ruler ofהַכְּנֵסֶתthe synagogue,אַל־תִּירָאBe not afraid,רַקonlyהַאֲמִינָה׃believe.

    As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.

37. 37

    וְלֹאAnd notנָתַןhe sufferedאִישׁany manלָלֶכֶתto goאִתּוֹwith him,זוּלָתִיsaveפֶטְרוֹסPeter,וְיַעֲקֹבand James,וְיוֹחָנָןand Johnאֲחִיthe brother ofיַעֲקֹב׃James.

    And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.

38. 38

    וַיָּבֹאAnd he comethבֵּית־רֹאשׁto the house of the ruler ofהַכְּנֵסֶתthe synagogue,וַיַּרְאand seethמְהוּמַתthe tumult,הַבֹּכִיםand them that weptוְהַמְיַלֲלִיםand wailedבְּקוֹלwith a voiceגָּדוֹל׃loud.

    And he cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly.

39. 39

    וַיָּבֹאAnd when he was come in,וַיֹּאמֶרhe saithאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,מַה־תֶּהֱמוּWhy make you this ado,וְתִבְכּוּand weep?הַנַּעֲרָהthe damselלֹאis notמֵתָהdead,אַךְ־יְשֵׁנָהbut sleepethהִיא׃she.

    And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth.

40. 40

    וַיִּשְׂחֲקוּAnd they laughedלוֹhim to scorn.וְהוּאBut when heהוֹצִיאhad put outאֶת־כֻּלָּםthem all,וַיִּקַּחhe takethאֶת־אֲבִיthe fatherהַנַּעֲרָהof the damselוְאֶת־אִמָּהּand the mother,וְהָאֲנָשִׁיםand themאֲשֶׁרthat wereאִתּוֹwith him,וַיָּבֹאand entereth inאֶל־הַחֶדֶרinto the chamberאֲשֶׁר־שָׁםwhereשֹׁכֶבֶתwas lying.הַנַּעֲרָה׃the damsel

    And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying.

41. 41

    וַיֹּאחֶזAnd he tookבְּיַדby the hand,הַנַּעֲרָהthe damselוַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֵלֶיהָunto her,טַלְיְתָאTalithaקוּמִיcumi;פֵּרוּשׁוֹwhich is, being interpreted,יַלְדָּהDamsel,אֲנִיIאֹמֵרsayלָךְunto you,קוּמִיariseנָא׃now.

    And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise.

42. 42

    וּמִיָּדAnd straightwayקָמָהarose,הַיַּלְדָּהthe damselוַתִּתְהַלֵּךְand walked;וְהִיאfor she wasבַּת־שְׁתֵּים־עֶשְׂרֵהof the age of twelveשָׁנָהyears.וַיָּשֹׁמּוּAnd they were astonished withשַׁמָּהastonishmentגְדוֹלָה׃great.

    And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment.

43. 43

    וַיַּזְהֵרAnd he chargedאוֹתָםthemמְאֹדstraitlyלֵאמֹרsaying,אַל־יִוָּדַעthat should not be knownהַדָּבָרthe matterלְאִישׁto any man;וַיְצַוand commandedלָתֵתthat something should be givenלָהּherלֶאֱכוֹל׃to eat.

    And he charged them straitly that no man should know it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat.
