1. 1

   וַיָשָׁבAnd againוַיָּחֶלhe beganלְלַמֵּדto teachעַלbyשְׁפַתthe shore ofהַיָּםthe sea:וַיִּקָּהֲלוּand there was gatheredאֵלָיוunto himהֲמוֹןa multitude,עַם־רָבgreatוַיֵּרֶדso that he enteredוַיֵּשֶׁבand satבׇּאֳנִיָּהinto a ship,בַּיָּםin the sea;וְכׇל־הָעָםand the whole multitudeעוֹמֵדstoodעַל־יַדbyהַיָּםthe seaבַּיַּבָּשָׁה׃on the land.

   And he began again to teach by the sea side: and there was gathered unto him a great multitude, so that he entered into a ship, and sat in the sea; and the whole multitude was by the sea on the land.

2. 2

   וַיְלַמְּדֵםAnd he taught themהַרְבֵּהmany thingsבִּמְשָׁלִיםby parables,וַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto themבְּלַמְּדוֹin his teachingאוֹתָם׃them,

   And he taught them many things by parables, and said unto them in his doctrine,

3. 3

   שִׁמְעוּHearkenשָׁמוֹעַand hear;הִנֵּהBehold,יָצָאthere went outהַזֹּרֵעa sowerלִזְרֹעַ׃to sow:

   Hearken; Behold, there went out a sower to sow:

4. 4

   וַיְהִיAnd it came to pass,בְזָרְעוֹas he sowed,וַיִּפֹּלfellמִן־הַזֶּרַעsome of the seedעַל־יַדbyהַדָּרֶךְthe way side,וַיָּבֹאוּand cameעוֹףthe fowls ofהַשָּׁמַיִםthe airוַיֹּאכְלֻהוּ׃and devoured it up.

   And it came to pass, as he sowed, some fell by the way side, and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up.

5. 5

   וְיֵשׁAnd someאֲשֶׁרwhichנָפַלfellעַל־מְקוֹםonהַסֶּלַעstony ground,אֲשֶׁרwhereאֵין־לוֹit had notשָׁםthereאֲדָמָהearth;הַרְבֵּהmuchוַיְמַהֵרand immediatelyלִצְמֹחַit sprang up,כִּיbecauseלֹא־הָיָהit had noלוֹto itעֹמֶקdepthאֲדָמָה׃of earth:

   And some fell on stony ground, where it had not much earth; and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth:

6. 6

   וַיְהִיButכִּזְרֹחַwhen was up,הַשֶּׁמֶשׁthe sunוַיִּצָרֵבit was scorched;וַיִּיבָשׁand it withered away,כִּיbecauseאֵין־לוֹit had noשֹׁרֶשׁ׃root.

   But when the sun was up, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away.

7. 7

   וְיֵשׁAnd someאֲשֶׁרwhichנָפַלfellבֵּיןamongהַקֹּצִיםthorns,וַיַּעֲלוּand grew up,הַקֹּצִיםthe thornsוַיְמָעֲכֻהוּand choked it,וְלֹאandנָתַןit yieldedפְּרִי׃no fruit.

   And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit.

8. 8

   וְיֵשׁAnd otherאֲשֶׁרwhichנָפַלfellעַלonהָאֲדָמָהground,הַטּוֹבָהgoodוַיִּתֵּןand did yieldפְּרִיfruitעֹלֶהthat sprang upוְגָדֵלand increased;וַיַּעַשׂand brought forth,זֶהsomeשְׁלֹשִׁיםthirtyשְׁעָרִיםfold,וְזֶהand someשִׁשִּׁיםsixty,וְזֶהand someמֵאָה׃an hundred.

   And other fell on good ground, and did yield fruit that sprang up and increased; and brought forth, some thirty, and some sixty, and some an hundred.

9. 9

   וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,מִיHeאֲשֶׁרthatאׇזְנַיִםearsלוֹhath,לִשְׁמֹעַto hear,יִשְׁמָע׃let him hear.

   And he said unto them, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

10. 10

    וַיְהִיAnd whenבִּהְיוֹתוֹhe wasלְבַדּוֹalone,וַיִּגְּשׁוּcameהָאֲנָשִׁיםthe menאֲשֶׁרwho wereאִתּוֹwith himעִם־שְׁנֵים־הֶעָשָׂרwith the twelve,וַיִּשְׁאָלוּהוּasked of himעַל־הַמָּשָׁל׃the parable.

    And when he was alone, they that were about him with the twelve asked of him the parable.

11. 11

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,לָכֶםUnto youנִתַּןit is givenלָדַעַתto knowסוֹדthe mystery ofמַלְכוּתthe kingdom ofהָאֱלֹהִיםGod:וַאֲשֶׁרbut unto themמִבַּחוּץthat are without,לָהֶםunto themהַכֹּלall thingsבִּמְשָׁלִים׃are done in parables:

    And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:

12. 12

    לְמַעַןThatיִרְאוּseeingרָאוֹthey may see,וְלֹאand notיֵדְעוּperceive;וְשָׁמְעוּand hearingשָׁמוֹעַthey may hear,וְלֹאand notיָבִינוּunderstand;פֶּן־יָשׁוּבוּlest at any time they should be converted,וְנִסְלַחand should be forgivenלְחַטֹּאתָם׃their sins.

    That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.

13. 13

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saidלָהֶםunto them,לֹאnotיְדַעְתֶּםKnow youאֶת־הַמָּשָׁלparable?הַזֶּהthisוְאֵיךְand howתָּבִינוּthen will you knowאֶת־הַמְּשָׁלִיםparables?כֻּלָּם׃all

    And he said unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how then will ye know all parables?

14. 14

    הַזֹּרֵעThe sowerהוּאheזֹרֵעַsowethאֶת־הַדָּבָר׃the word.

    The sower soweth the word.

15. 15

    וְעַל־יַדAnd byהַדֶּרֶךְthe way side,אֵלֶּהtheseהֵםare theyאֲשֶׁרwhereיִזָּרַע־בָּםis sown;הַדָּבָרthe wordוּכְשָּׁמְעָםbut when they have heard,אוֹתוֹit,מִיָּדimmediatelyבָּאcomethהַשָּׂטָןSatanוַיִּשָּׂאand taketh awayאֶת־הַדָּבָרthe wordהַזָּרוּעthat was sownבִּלְבָבָם׃in their hearts.

    And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.

16. 16

    וְכֵןAnd these are they likewiseהַנִּזְרָעִיםwhich are sownעַל־מְקֹמוֹתonהַסֶּלַעstony ground;הֵםthey;הַשֹּׁמְעִיםwho, when they have heardאֶת־הַדָּבָרthe word,וּמַהֵרimmediatelyבְּשִׂמְחָהwith gladness;יִקָּחֻהוּ׃receive it

    And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness;

17. 17

    אַךְAndאֵין־לָהֶםhave noשֹׁרֶשׁrootבְּקִרְבָּםin themselves,וְרַקand onlyלְשָׁעָהfor a timeיַעֲמֹדוּthey endure:וְאַחַר־כֵּןafterward,בְּבֹאwhen arisethצָרָהafflictionוּרְדִיפָהor persecutionבִּגְלַלforהַדָּבָרthe word's sake,מְהֵרָהimmediatelyיִכָּשֵׁלוּ׃they are offended.

    And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake, immediately they are offended.

18. 18

    וְאֵלֶּהAnd these are theyהַנִּזְרָעִיםwhich are sownבֵּיןamongהַקֹּצִיםthorns;הֵםthey;הַשֹּׁמְעִיםsuch as hearאֶת־הַדָּבָר׃the word,

    And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word,

19. 19

    וְדַאֲגוֹתAnd the cares ofהָעוֹלָםworld,הַזֶּהthisוּמִרְמַתand the deceitfulness ofהָעשֶׁרriches,וְתַאֲוֹתand the lusts ofאֲחֵרוֹתother thingsבָּאוֹתentering in,וּמְמָעֲכוֹתchokeאֶת־הַדָּבָרthe word,וּפְרִיand fruitלֹאnotיִהְיֶה־לּוֹ׃it shall have.

    And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.

20. 20

    וְאֵלֶּהAnd these are theyהַזְּרוּעִיםwhich are sownעַל־הָאֲדָמָהon ground;הַטּוֹבָהgoodהֵםthey;הַשֹּׁמְעִיםsuch as hearאֶת־הַדָּבָרthe word,וּמְקַבְּלִיםand receiveאֹתוֹit,וְעֹשִׂיםand bring forthפְּרִיfruit,זֶהsomeשְׁלֹשִׁיםthirtyשְׁעָרִיםfold,וְזֶהsomeשִׁשִּׁיםsixty,וְזֶהand someמֵאָה׃an hundred.

    And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred.

21. 21

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,הֲיָבִיאוּIs broughtהַנֵּרa candleלָשׂוּםto be putתַּחַתunderהָאֵיפָהa bushel,וְתַחַתor underהַמִּטָּהa bed?וְלֹאand notלְהַעֲלוֹתוֹto be setעַל־הַמְּנוֹרָה׃on a candlestick?

    And he said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick?

22. 22

    כִּיForאֵין־דָּבָרthere is nothingסָתוּםhid,אֲשֶׁרwhichלֹא־יִגָּלֶהshall not be manifested;וְלֹאneitherנִגְנַזwas kept secretדָּבָרany thing,כִּיbutאִם־לְמַעַןthatיֵצֵאit should comeלָאוֹר׃abroad.

    For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad.

23. 23

    כׇּל־אֲשֶׁרIf any manאׇזְנַיםearsלוֹhath,לִשְׁמֹעַto hear,יִשְׁמָע׃let him hear.

    If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.

24. 24

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,רְאוּTake heedמָהwhatאַתֶּםyouשֹׁמְעִיםhear:בַּמִדָּהwith what measureאֲשֶׁרwhichאַתֶּםyouמוֹדְדִיםmete,בָּהּtherewith,יִמַּדit shall be measuredלָכֶםto you:וְעוֹדand moreיוּסַףshall be givenלָכֶםunto youהַשֹּׁמְעִים׃that hear.

    And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.

25. 25

    כִּיForמִיhe thatשֶׁיֶּשׁ־לוֹhath,נָתוֹןsurelyיִנָּתֵןshall be givenלוֹto him:וּמִיand heשֶׁאֵין־לוֹthat hath not,יֻקַּחshall be takenמִמֶּנּוּfrom himגַםevenאֶת־אֲשֶׁרthat whichלוֹ׃he hath.

    For he that hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he hath.

26. 26

    וַיֹּאמַרAnd he said,מַלְכוּתthe kingdom ofהָאֱלֹהִיםGod,הִיאSo isכְאָדָםas if a manמַשְׁלִיךְshould castזֶרַעseedבָּאֲדָמָה׃into the ground;

    And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground;

27. 27

    וְשָׁכַבAnd should sleep,וְקָםand riseלַיְלָהnightוָיוֹםand day,וְהַזֶּרַעand the seedיִצְמַחshould springוְגָדֵלand grow up,וְהוּאheלֹאnotיָדָע׃knoweth how.

    And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how.

28. 28

    כִּיForהָאָרֶץthe earthמֵאֵלֶיהָof herself;מוֹצִיאָהbringeth forthפִרְיָהּfruitאֶת־הַדֶּשֶׁאthe blade,רִאשׂוֹנָהfirstוְאַחֲרָיוthenאֶת־הַשִּׁבֹּלֶתthe ear,וְאַחֲרֵי־כֵןafter thatאֶת־הַחִטָּהthe cornהַמְּלֵאָהfullבַּשִּׁבֹּלֶת׃in the ear.

    For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear.

29. 29

    וְכַאֲשֶׁרBut whenגָּמַלis brought forth,הַפְּרִיthe fruitיְמַהֵרimmediatelyלִשְׁלֹחַhe putteth inמַגָּלthe sickle,כִּיbecauseבָשַׁלis come.קָצִיר׃the harvest

    But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come.

30. 30

    וַיֹּאמַרAnd he said,אֶל־מַהWhereuntoנְדַמֶּהshall we likenאֶת־מַלְכוּתthe kingdom ofהָאֱלֹהִיםGod?וּבְאֵי־זֶהor with whatמָשָׁלcomparisonנַמְשִׁילֶנָּה׃shall we compare it?

    And he said, Whereunto shall we liken the kingdom of God? or with what comparison shall we compare it?

31. 31

    כְּגַרְגַּרIt is like a grain ofשֶׁל־חַרְדָּלmustard seed,אֲשֶׁרwhich,יִזָּרַעwhen it is sownבָּאֲדָמָהin the earth,וְהוּאisקָטֹןless thanמִכׇּל־הַזֵּרֹעִיםall the seedsאֲשֶׁרthat beעַל־הָאָרֶץ׃in the earth:

    It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that be in the earth:

32. 32

    וְאַחֲרֵיBut whenהִזָּרְעוֹit is sown,יַעֲלֶהit groweth up,וְיִגְדַּלand becometh greater thanעַל־כׇּל־הַיְרָקוֹתall herbs,וְעָשָׂהand shooteth outעֲנָפִיםbranchesגְּדוֹלִיםgreat;עַד־אֲשֶׁרso thatיְקַנְּנוּmay lodgeעוֹףthe fowls ofהַשָּׁמַיִםthe airבְּצִלוֹ׃under the shadow of it.

    But when it is sown, it groweth up, and becometh greater than all herbs, and shooteth out great branches; so that the fowls of the air may lodge under the shadow of it.

33. 33

    וּבִמְשָׁלִיםAnd with parablesרַבִּיםmanyכָּאֵלֶּהsuchדִּבֶּרspake heאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,אֶת־הַדָּבָרthe wordכְּפִי־אֲשֶׁרasיָכְלוּthey were ableלִשְׁמֹעַ׃to hear it.

    And with many such parables spake he the word unto them, as they were able to hear it.

34. 34

    וּבִבְלִיBut withoutמָשָׁלa parableלֹאnotדִבֶּרspake heאֲלֵיהֶםunto them:וְהָיָהand whenבִהְיוֹתthey were alone,תַּלְמִידָיוhis disciplesעִמּוֹwith him,וְאֵיןand noאִישׁmanאִתָּםwith them,יְבָאֵרhe expoundedלָהֶםto themאֶת־הַכֹּל׃all things.

    But without a parable spake he not unto them: and when they were alone, he expounded all things to his disciples.

35. 35

    וַיְהִיAndבַּיּוֹםthe same dayהַהוּאthat,לִפְנוֹתwhenעָרֶבthe even was come,וַיֹּאמֶרhe saithאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,נַעְבְּרָהLet us pass overאֶל־עֵבֶרunto the other sideהַיָּם׃of the sea.

    And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.

36. 36

    וַיַּנִּיחוּAnd when they had sent awayאֶת־הֲמוֹןthe multitude,הָעָםof the people,וַיִּקְחוּthey tookאֹתוֹhimבׇּאֳנִיָּהin the shipאֲשֶׁרwhichהָיָהhe wasבָּהּtherein,וׇאֳנִיּוֹתand shipsאֲחֵרוֹתotherהָלְכוּwentאַחֲרָיו׃with him.

    And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.

37. 37

    וַתָּקׇםAnd there aroseרוּחַ־סְעָרָהa storm of wind,גְדוֹלָהgreatוַיִּשְׁטְפוּand beatהַגַּלִּיםthe wavesאֶל־תּוֹךְintoהׇאֳנִיָּהthe ship,עַדso thatאֲשֶׁר־כִּמְעַטit was nowמָלֵאָה׃full.

    And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.

38. 38

    וְהוּאAnd he wasיָשֵׁןasleepעַל־הַכֶּסֶתon a pillow:בַּאֲחֹרֵיin the hinder part ofהׇאֳנִיָּהthe ship,וַיָּעִירוּand they awakeאוֹתוֹhim,וַיֹּאמְרוּand sayאֵלָיוunto him,רַבִּיMaster,הֲלֹאDo you notתִדְאַגcareלָנוּfor us,וַאֲנַחְנוּthat weאֹבְדִים׃perish?

    And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?

39. 39

    וַיֵּעוֹרAnd he arose,וַיִּגְעַרand rebukedבָּרוּחַthe wind,וַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֶל־הַיָּםunto the sea,הַסPeace,וָדֹםbe still.וַתָּשָׁךְAnd ceased,הָרוּחַthe windוַתְּהִיand there wasדְמָמָהa calm.רַבָּה׃great

    And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

40. 40

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,לָמָּהWhyחֲרֵדִיםso fearfulאַתֶּםare you?אֵיךְhow is it thatחֲסַרְתֶּםyou have noאֱמוּנָה׃faith?

    And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?

41. 41

    וַיִּירְאוּAnd they fearedיִרְאָהa fearגְדוֹלָהexceedingly,וַיֹּאמְרוּand saidאִישׁoneאֶל־רֵעֵהוּto another,מִיWhoאֵפוֹאthenהוּאis he,אֲשֶׁרthatגַּםevenהָרוּחַthe windוְגַםandהַיָּםthe seaשֹׁמְעִיםobeyלוֹ׃him?

    And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?
