1. 1

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passמִיָּמִיםmiy/ya/MIMafter daysוַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand he cameשֵׁנִיתshe/NITa second timeאֶל־כְּפַר־נַחוּםel-Ke/FAR-na/CHUMinto Capernaumוַיִּשְׁמְעוּvay/yish/me/Uand they heardכִּי־הוּאki-huthat he wasבַבָּיִת׃vab/BA/yitin the house

   And again he entered into Capernaum after some days; and it was noised that he was in the house.

2. 2

   וַיֵּאָסְפוּvay/ye/a/se/FUand were gatheredרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyמְהֵרָהme/he/RAquicklyעַד־אֶפֶסad-E/fesuntil there was noמָקוֹםma/KOMplaceלַעֲמֹדla/a/MODto standאַף־לִפְנֵיaf-lif/NEnot even beforeהַפָּתַחhap/PA/tachthe doorוַיְדַבֵּרvay/dab/BERand he spokeאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themאֶת־הַדָּבָר׃et-had/da/VARthe word

   And straightway many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door: and he preached the word unto them.

   וַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uand cameאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himאֲנָשִׁיםa/na/SHIMmenנֹשְׂאִיםnos/IMcarryingאִישׁisha manנְכֵהne/KHEstricken ofאֵבָרִיםe/va/RIMlimbsוַיִּשָּׂאֻהוּvay/yis/sa/U/huand they carried himבְּאַרְבָּעָה׃be/ar/ba/Aby four

   And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne of four.

   And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכִּרְאוֹתkir/OTwhen sawיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusאֶת־אֱמוּנָתָםet-e/mu/na/TAMtheir faithוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֶל־נְכֵהel-ne/KHEto the man stricken ofהָאֵבָרִיםha/e/va/RIMthe limbsבְּנִיbe/NImy sonנִסְלְחוּ־לְךָnis/le/CHU-le/KHAare forgiven youחַטֹּאתֶיךָ׃chat/to/te/KHAyour sins

   When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.

6. 6

   וְשָׁםve/SHAMand there wereאֲנָשִׁיםa/na/SHIMmenמִן־הַסּוֹפְרִיםmin-has/sof/RIMof the scribesיֹשְׁבִיםyosh/VIMsittingוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidבְּלִבָּם׃be/lib/BAMin their hearts

   But there were certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,

   מַה־לָּזֶהma-la/ZEwhat is with this manכִּיkithatיְדַבֵּרye/dab/BERhe speaksגִּדּוּפִיםgid/du/FIMblasphemiesכָּאֵלֶּהka/EL/lelike theseמִיmiwhoיָכֹלya/KHOLcanלִסְלֹחַlis/LO/achforgiveלַחֲטָאִיםla/cha/ta/IMsinsכִּיkibutאִםimratherהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodלְבַדּוֹ׃le/vad/DOalone

   Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only?

8. 8

   וַיֵּדַעvay/YE/daand knewיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusבְּרוּחוֹbe/ru/CHOin his spiritכִּי־כֵןki-khenthat soחֹשְׁבִיםchosh/VIMthey were reasoningבִּלְבָבָםbil/va/VAMin their heartוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themמַדּוּעַmad/DU/awhyתַּחְשְׁבוּtach/she/VUdo you reasonכָאֵלֶּהkha/EL/lelike theseבִּלְבַבְכֶם׃bil/vav/KHEMin your heart

   And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts?

9. 9

   מָהmawhichהַנָּקֵלhan/na/KELis easierהֶאָמֹרhe/a/MORto sayאֶל־נְכֵהel-ne/KHEto the man stricken ofהָאֵבָרִיםha/e/va/RIMthe limbsנִסְלְחוּ־לְךָnis/le/CHU-le/KHAare forgiven youחַטֹּאתֶיךָchat/to/te/KHAyour sinsאִם־אָמוֹרim-a/MORor to sayקוּםkumariseשָׂאsatake upאֶת־מִשְׁכָּבְךָet-mish/ka/ve/KHAyour bedוְהִתְהַלֵּךְ׃ve/hit/hal/LEKHand walk

   Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk?

    וּלְמַעַןu/le/MA/anand so thatתֵּדְעוּןted/UNyou may knowכִּיkithatבֶן־הָאָדָםven-Ha/a/DAMthe Son of manיֶשׁ־לוֹyesh-lohasהַשָּׁלְטָןhash/sha/le/TANthe authorityלִסְלֹחַlis/LO/achto forgiveלַחֲטָאִיםla/cha/ta/IMsinsבָּאָרֶץba/A/retson the earthוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֶל־נְכֵהel-ne/KHEto the man stricken ofהָאֵבָרִים׃ha/e/va/RIMthe limbs

    But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,)

11. 11

    לְךָle/KHAto youאֲנִיa/NIIאֹמֵרo/MERsayקוּםkumariseשָׂאsatake upאֶת־מִשְׁכָּבְךָet-mish/ka/ve/KHAyour bedוְלֵךְve/LEKHand goאֶל־בֵּיתֶךָ׃el-be/TE/khato your house

    I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house.

12. 12

    וַיָּקׇםvay/YA/komand he aroseפִּתְאֹםpit/OMsuddenlyוַיִּשָּׂאvay/yis/SAand took upאֶת־מִשְׁכָּבוֹet-mish/ka/VOhis bedוַיֵּצֵאvay/ye/TSEand went outלְעֵינֵיle/e/NEbefore the eyes ofכֻלָּםkhul/LAMall of themעַדaduntilכִּי־תָמְהוּki-ta/me/HUthat marveledכֻלָּםkhul/LAMall of themוַיְשַׁבְּחוּvay/shab/be/CHUand praisedאֶת־הָאֱלֹהִיםet-ha/e/lo/HIMGodלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingמֵעוֹלָםme/o/LAMeverלֹא־רָאִינוּlo-ra/I/nuwe have not seenכָזֹאת׃kha/ZOTlike this

    And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.

13. 13

    וַיָּשׇׁבvay/YA/shovand he returnedוַיֵּצֵאvay/ye/TSEand went outאֶל־יַדel-yadto the side ofהַיָּםhay/YAMthe seaוַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uand cameאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himכׇּל־הָעָםkol-ha/AMall the peopleוַיְלַמְּדֵם׃vay/lam/me/DEMand he taught them

    And he went forth again by the sea side; and all the multitude resorted unto him, and he taught them.

14. 14

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passבְעָבְרוֹve/a/ve/ROas he passedוַיַּרְאvay/YARand he sawאֶת־לֵוִיet-Le/VILeviבֶּן־חַלְפַיben-Chal/FAYthe son of Alphaeusיֹשֵׁבyo/SHEVsittingבְּבֵיתbe/VETin the house ofהַמֶּכֶסham/ME/khesthe tollוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himלְכָהle/KHAcomeאַחֲרָיa/cha/RAYafter meוַיָּקׇםvay/YA/komand he aroseוַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand wentאַחֲרָיו׃a/cha/RAYVafter him

    And as he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphæus sitting at the receipt of custom, and said unto him, Follow me. And he arose and followed him.

15. 15

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasהֵסֵבhe/SEVhe reclinedבְּבֵיתוֹbe/ve/TOin his houseוַיַּסֵּבּוּvay/yas/SEB/buand reclinedמוֹכְסִיםmokh/SIMtax collectorsוְחַטָּאִיםve/chat/ta/IMand sinnersרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyעִם־יֵשׁוּעַim-Ye/SHU/awith Jesusוְעִם־תַּלְמִידָיוve/IM-tal/mi/DAYVand with his disciplesכִּיkiforרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyהָיוּha/YUthere wereהַהֹלְכִיםha/hol/KHIMwho wentאַחֲרָיו׃a/cha/RAYVafter him

    And it came to pass, that, as Jesus sat at meat in his house, many publicans and sinners sat also together with Jesus and his disciples: for there were many, and they followed him.

16. 16

    וְהַסּוֹפְרִיםve/has/sof/RIMand the scribesוְהַפְּרוּשִׁיםve/hap/Pe/ru/SHIMand the Phariseesרָאוּra/Usawאֹתוֹo/TOhimאֹכֵלo/KHELeatingעִם־הַמּוֹכְסִיםim-ham/mokh/SIMwith the tax collectorsוְהַחַטָּאִיםve/ha/chat/ta/IMand the sinnersוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidאֶל־תַּלְמִידָיוel-tal/mi/DAYVto his disciplesמַה־לְּרַבְּכֶםma-le/rab/be/KHEMwhat is with your masterכִּיkithatאֹכֵלo/KHELeatsוְשֹׁתֶהve/sho/TEand drinksהוּאhuheעִם־הַמּוֹכְסִיםim-ham/mokh/SIMwith the tax collectorsוְהַחַטָּאִים׃ve/ha/chat/ta/IMand the sinners

    And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and sinners, they said unto his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners?

17. 17

    וַיִּשְׁמַעvay/yish/MAand heardיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהַחֲזָקִיםha/cha/za/KIMthe strongאֵינָםe/NAMdo notצְרִיכִיםtse/ri/KHIMneedלְרֹפֵאle/ro/FEa physicianכִּיkibutאִם־הַחֹלִיםim-ha/cho/LIMrather the sickלֹאlonotבָאתִיVA/tiI cameלִקְרֹאlik/ROto callהַצַּדִּיקִיםhats/tsad/di/KIMthe righteousכִּיkibutאִםimratherהַחַטָּאִיםha/chat/ta/IMthe sinnersלִתְשׁוּבָה׃lit/shu/VAto repentance

    When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

18. 18

    וְתַלְמִידֵיve/tal/mi/DEand the disciples ofיוֹחָנָןYo/cha/NANJohnוְתַלְמִידֵיve/tal/mi/DEand the disciples ofהַפְּרוּשִׁיםhap/Pe/ru/SHIMthe Phariseesהָיוּha/YUwereמַרְבִּיםmar/BIMoftenלָצוּםla/TSUMto fastוַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uand they cameוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himמַדּוּעַmad/DU/awhyתַּלְמִידֵיtal/mi/DEthe disciples ofיוֹחָנָןYo/cha/NANJohnוְתַלְמִידֵיve/tal/mi/DEand the disciples ofהַפְּרוּשִׁיםhap/Pe/ru/SHIMthe Phariseesצָמִיםtsa/MIMfastוְתַלְמִידֶיךָve/tal/mi/de/KHAand your disciplesאֵינָםe/NAMdo notצָמִים׃tsa/MIMfast

    And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees used to fast: and they come and say unto him, Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not?

19. 19

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusאֵיךְekhhowיוּכְלוּyukh/LUcanבְּנֵיbe/NEthe sons ofהַחֻפָּהha/chup/PAthe canopyלָצוּםla/TSUMfastבְּעוֹדbe/ODwhileהֶחָתָןhe/cha/TANthe bridegroomעִמָּהֶםim/ma/HEMis with themכׇּל־יְמֵיkol-ye/MEall the days ofהֱיוֹתhe/YOTbeingהֶחָתָןhe/cha/TANthe bridegroomעִמָּהֶםim/ma/HEMwith themלֹאlonotיוּכְלוּyukh/LUthey canלָצוּם׃la/TSUMfast

    And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them? as long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.

20. 20

    הִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdיָמִיםya/MIMthe daysבָּאִיםba/IMare comingוְלֻקַּחve/luk/KACHand will be takenמֵאִתָּםme/it/TAMfrom themהֶחָתָןhe/cha/TANthe bridegroomוְאָזve/AZand thenיָצוּמוּya/tsu/MUthey will fastבַּיָּמִיםbay/ya/MIMin the daysהָהֵם׃ha/HEMthose

    But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.

21. 21

    אֵין־אָדָםen-a/DAMno manתֹּפֵרto/FERsewsטְלַאיte/LAYa patch ofבַדvadclothחָדָשׁcha/DASHnewעַל־שִׂמְלָהal-sim/LAon a garmentבָלָהva/LAoldכִּיkiforאִםimifכֵּןkensoיִנָּתֵקyin/na/TEKwill tear awayמִלוּיוֹmi/lu/YOits fillingהֶחָדָשׁhe/cha/DASHthe newמִן־הַבָּלָהmin-hab/ba/LAfrom the oldוְיִתְרַחֵבve/yit/ra/CHEVand will widenהַקֶּרַע׃hak/KE/rathe tear

    No man also seweth a piece of new cloth on an old garment: else the new piece that filled it up taketh away from the old, and the rent is made worse.

22. 22

    וְאֵיןve/ENand notאָדָםa/DAMa manנֹתֵןno/TENputsיַיִןYA/yinwineחָדָשׁcha/DASHnewבְּנֹאדוֹתbe/no/DOTinto skinsבָּלִיםba/LIMoldכִּיkiforאִםimifכֵּןkensoיְבַקַּעye/vak/KAwill burstהַיַּיִןhay/YA/yinthe wineהֶחָדָשׁhe/cha/DASHnewאֶת־הַנֹּאדוֹתet-han/no/DOTthe skinsוְהַיַּיִןve/hay/YA/yinand the wineיִשָּׁפֵךְyish/sha/FEKHwill be spilledוְהַנֹּאדוֹתve/han/no/DOTand the skinsיֹאבֵדוּyo/VE/duwill perishאֲבָלa/VALbutיַיִןYA/yinwineחָדָשׁcha/DASHnewיִנָּתֵןyin/na/TENis putבְּנֹאדוֹתbe/no/DOTinto skinsחֲדָשִׁים׃cha/da/SHIMnew

    And no man putteth new wine into old bottles: else the new wine doth burst the bottles, and the wine is spilled, and the bottles will be marred: but new wine must be put into new bottles.

23. 23

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכְעָבְרוֹkhe/a/ve/ROas he passedבַּשַּׁבָּתbash/shab/BATon the sabbathבֵּיןbenamongהַשָּׂדוֹתhas/sa/DOTthe fieldsוַיָּחֵלּוּvay/ya/CHEL/luand beganתַלְמִידָיוtal/mi/DAYVhis disciplesלִקְטֹףlik/TOFto pluckמְלִילֹתme/li/LOTheads of grainבְּלֶכְתָּם׃be/lekh/TAMas they went

    And it came to pass, that he went through the corn fields on the sabbath day; and his disciples began, as they went, to pluck the ears of corn.

24. 24

    וַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himהַפְּרוּשִׁיםhap/Pe/ru/SHIMthe Phariseesרְאֵהre/Eseeמָה־הֵמָּהma-HEM/mawhat are theyעֹשִׂיםo/SIMdoingבַּשַּׁבָּתbash/shab/BATon the sabbathאֵת־אֲשֶׁר־לֹאet-a/SHER-lowhat notיֵעָשֶׂה׃ye/a/SEmay be done

    And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful?

25. 25

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themהֲכִיha/KHIdidלֹאlonotקְרָאתֶםke/ra/TEMreadאֶת־אֲשֶׁרet-a/SHERwhatעָשָׂהa/SAdidדָוִדDa/VIDDavidבִּהְיֹתוֹbih/yo/TOwhen he wasחָסֵרcha/SERin needוְרָעֵבve/ra/EVand hungryהוּאhuheוַאֲנָשָׁיו׃va/a/na/SHAYVand his men

    And he said unto them, Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was an hungred, he, and they that were with him?

26. 26

    אֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatבָּאbahe wentאֶל־בֵּיתel-betinto the house ofאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodבִּימֵיbi/MEin the days ofאֶבְיָתָרEv/ya/TARAbiatharהַכֹּהֵןhak/ko/HENthe priestהַגָּדוֹלhag/ga/DOLhighוַיֹּאכַלvay/YO/khaland ateאֶת־לֶחֶםet-LE/chemthe bread ofהַפָּנִיםhap/pa/NIMthe presenceאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichלֹאlonotנִתַּןnit/TANis permittedלְאׇכְלָהle/okh/LAto eat itכִּיkibutאִםimonlyלַכֹּהֲנִיםlak/ko/ha/NIMto the priestsוַיִּתֵּןvay/yit/TENand gaveגַּם־לָאֲנָשִׁיםgam-la/a/na/SHIMalso to the menאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoאִתּוֹ׃it/TOwere with him

    How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the shewbread, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were with him?

27. 27

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themהַשַּׁבָּתhash/shab/BATthe sabbathנִתְּנָהnit/te/NAwas givenבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURfor the sake ofהָאָדָםha/a/DAMmanוְלֹאve/LOand notהָאָדָםha/a/DAMmanבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURfor the sake ofהַשַּׁבָּת׃hash/shab/BATthe sabbath

    And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:

28. 28

    לָכֵןla/KHENthereforeאָדוֹןa/DONis Lordבֶּן־הָאָדָםben-Ha/a/DAMthe Son of manגַּםgamalsoלַשַּׁבָּת׃lash/shab/BATof the sabbath

    Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
