1. 1

   And straightway in the morning the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council, and bound Jesus, and carried him away, and delivered him to Pilate.

   וַיִּשְׁאַלvay/yish/ALand askedאוֹתוֹo/TOhimפִּילָטוֹסPi/la/TOSPilateהַאַתָּהha/at/TAare youמֶלֶךְME/lekhthe king ofהַיְּהוּדִיםhay/Ye/hu/DIMthe Jewsוַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand he answeredוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himאַתָּהat/TAyouאָמָרְתָּ׃a/mar/TAhave said

   And Pilate asked him, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answering said unto him, Thou sayest it.

   וְרָאשֵׁיve/ra/SHEand the chiefs ofהַכֹּהֲנִיםhak/ko/ha/NIMthe priestsהִרְבּוּhir/BUincreasedלְשִׂטְנוֹle/sit/NOto accuse himוְהוּאve/HUand heלֹא־עָנָהlo-a/NAdid not answerדָבָר׃da/VARa word

   And the chief priests accused him of many things: but he answered nothing.

   וַיּוֹסֶףvay/YO/sefand againפִּילָטוֹסPi/la/TOSPilateוַיִּשְׁאָלֵהוּvay/yish/a/LE/huasked himלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingהָאֵינְךָha/e/ne/KHAdo you notמֵשִׁיבme/SHIVanswerדָּבָרda/VARa wordרְאֵהre/Eseeכַּמָּהkam/MAhow muchהֵםhemtheyעָנוּa/NUtestifyבָךְ׃vakhagainst you

   And Pilate asked him again, saying, Answerest thou nothing? behold how many things they witness against thee.

   וְיֵשׁוּעַve/Ye/SHU/abut Jesusלֹא־הֵשִׁיבlo-he/SHIVdid not answerעוֹדodagainאַף־דָּבָרaf-da/VAReven a wordאֶחָדe/CHADoneוַיִּתְמַהּvay/yit/MAand marveledפִּילָטוֹס׃Pi/la/TOSPilate

   But Jesus yet answered nothing; so that Pilate marvelled.

   וּמִדֵּיu/mid/DEand as often asחַגchaga feastבְּחַגּוֹbe/chag/GOat its feastהָיָהha/YAhe wasפּוֹטֵרPO/terreleasingלָהֶםla/HEMto themאָסִירa/SIRa prisonerאֶחָדe/CHADoneאֵת־אֲשֶׁרet-a/SHERwhomיְבַקֵּשׁוּ׃ye/vak/KE/shuthey asked

   Now at that feast he released unto them one prisoner, whomsoever they desired.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand there wasאִישׁisha manהַנִּקְרָאhan/nik/RAcalledבְשֵׁםve/SHEMby the nameבַּר־אַבָּאBar-ab/BABarabbasאָסוּרa/SURboundעִם־הַמּוֹרְדִיםim-ham/mor/DIMwith the rebelsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoרָצְחוּra/tse/CHUhad murderedרֶצַחRE/tsachmurderבְּעֵתbe/ETat the time ofהַמָּרֶד׃ham/MA/redthe rebellion

   And there was one named Barabbas, which lay bound with them that had made insurrection with him, who had committed murder in the insurrection.

   וַיִּצְעַקvay/yits/AKand cried aloudהֶהָמוֹןhe/ha/MONthe crowdוַיָּחֵלּוּvay/ya/CHEL/luand beganלְבַקֵּשׁle/vak/KESHto askשֶׁיַּעֲשֶׂהshey/ya/a/SEthat he doלָהֶםla/HEMfor themכְּפַעַםke/FA/amas at other timesבְּפָעַם׃be/FA/ambefore

   And the multitude crying aloud began to desire him to do as he had ever done unto them.

   וַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand answeredאֹתָםo/TAMthemפִּילָטוֹסPi/la/TOSPilateוַיֹּאמַרvay/yo/MARand saidרְצוֹנְכֶםre/tson/KHEMis your willשֶׁאַתִּירshe/at/TIRthat I releaseלָכֶםla/KHEMto youאֶת־מֶלֶךְet-ME/lekhthe king ofהַיְּהוּדִים׃hay/Ye/hu/DIMthe Jews

   But Pilate answered them, saying, Will ye that I release unto you the King of the Jews?

    כִּיkiforיָדַעya/DAhe knewאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatמִקִּנְאָהmik/kin/Afor envyמְסָרוּהוּme/sa/ru/HUhad delivered himרָאשֵׁיra/SHEthe chiefs ofהַכֹּהֲנִים׃hak/ko/ha/NIMthe priests

    For he knew that the chief priests had delivered him for envy.

11. 11

    וְרָאשֵׁיve/ra/SHEand the chiefs ofהַכֹּהֲנִיםhak/ko/ha/NIMthe priestsהֵסִיתוּhe/si/TUincitedאֶת־הֶהָמוֹןet-he/ha/MONthe crowdלְבִלְתִּיle/vil/TInot toהַתִּירhat/TIRreleaseלָהֶםla/HEMto themכִּיkibutאִם־בַּר־אַבָּא׃im-bar-Ab/BArather Barabbas

    But the chief priests moved the people, that he should rather release Barabbas unto them.

12. 12

    וַיֹּסֶףvay/YO/sefand againפִּילָטוֹסPi/la/TOSPilateוַיַּעַןvay/YA/anansweredוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלָהֶםla/HEMto themוּמָה־אֵפוֹאu/MA-e/FOand what thenרְצוֹנְכֶםre/tson/KHEMis your willשֶׁאֶעֱשֶׂהshe/e/e/SEthat I doלַאֲשֶׁרla/a/SHERto him whomאַתֶּםat/TEMyouקֹרְאִיםkor/IMcallמֶלֶךְME/lekhthe king ofהַיְּהוּדִים׃hay/Ye/hu/DIMthe Jews

    And Pilate answered and said again unto them, What will ye then that I shall do unto him whom ye call the King of the Jews?

13. 13

    וַיִּקְרְאוּvay/yik/re/Uand they called outעוֹדodagainהַצְלֵבhats/LEVcrucifyאֹתוֹ׃o/TOhim

    And they cried out again, Crucify him.

14. 14

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themפִּילָטוֹסPi/la/TOSPilateמָה־אֵפוֹאma-e/FOwhat thenרָעָהra/Aevilעָשָׂהa/SAhas he doneוְהֵםve/HEMand theyהִרְבּוּ־עוֹדhir/BU-odincreased moreלִקְרֹאlik/ROto call outהַצְלֵבhats/LEVcrucifyאֹתוֹ׃o/TOhim

    Then Pilate said unto them, Why, what evil hath he done? And they cried out the more exceedingly, Crucify him.

15. 15

    וַיּוֹאֶלvay/YO/eland wantedפִּילָטוֹסPi/la/TOSPilateלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTto doכִּרְצוֹןkir/TSONaccording to the will ofהָעָםha/AMthe peopleוַיַּתֵּרvay/yat/TERand releasedלָהֶםla/HEMto themאֵת־בַּר־אַבָּאet-Bar-ab/BABarabbasוְאֵתve/ETandיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusהִכָּהhik/KAhe struckבַשּׁוֹטִיםvash/sho/TIMwith whipsוַיִּמְסֹרvay/yim/SORand deliveredאוֹתוֹo/TOhimלְהִצָּלֵב׃le/hits/tsa/LEVto be crucified

    And so Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them, and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him, to be crucified.

16. 16

    וַיּוֹלִיכֻהוּvay/yo/li/KHU/huand led himאַנְשֵׁיan/SHEthe men ofהַצָּבָאhats/tsa/VAthe armyאֶל־תּוֹךְel-tokhintoהֶחָצֵרhe/cha/TSERthe courtהוּאhuthat isבֵּיתbetthe house ofהַמִּשְׁפָּטham/mish/PATjudgmentוַיַּזְעִיקוּvay/yaz/I/kuand they called togetherאֶת־כׇּל־הַגְּדוּד׃et-kol-hag/ge/DUDthe whole troop

    And the soldiers led him away into the hall, called Prætorium; and they call together the whole band.

17. 17

    וַיַּלְבִּישֻׁהוּvay/yal/bi/shu/HUand they clothed himאַרְגָּמָןar/ga/MANpurpleוַיְשָׂרֲגוּvay/sa/ra/GUand they woveעֲטֶרֶתa/TE/reta crown ofקֹצִיםko/TSIMthornsוַיְעַטְּרֻהוּ׃vay/at/te/ru/HUand crowned him

    And they clothed him with purple, and plaited a crown of thorns, and put it about his head,

18. 18

    וַיָּחֵלּוּvay/ya/CHEL/luand beganלְבָרֲכוֹle/va/ra/KHOto greet himלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingשָׁלוֹםsha/LOMpeaceלְךָle/KHAto youמֶלֶךְME/lekhking ofהַיְּהוּדִים׃hay/Ye/hu/DIMthe Jews

    And began to salute him, Hail, King of the Jews!

19. 19

    וַיַּכּוּvay/yak/KUand they struckעַל־רֹאשׁוֹal-ro/SHOon his headבְּקָנֶהbe/ka/NEwith a reedוַיָּרֹקּוּvay/ya/rok/KUand spatבוֹvoon himוַיִּכְרְעוּvay/yikh/re/Uand kneltעַל־בִּרְכֵיהֶםal-bir/khe/HEMon their kneesוַיִּשְׁתַּחֲווּvay/yish/ta/cha/VUand bowed downלוֹ׃loto him

    And they smote him on the head with a reed, and did spit upon him, and bowing their knees worshipped him.

20. 20

    וְאַחֲרֵיve/a/cha/REand whenהִתְלוֹצֲצָםhit/lo/tsa/TSAMthey mockedבּוֹbohimהִפְשִׁיטוּhif/SHI/tuthey strippedאוֹתוֹo/TOhimאֶת־הָאַרְגָּמָןet-ha/ar/ga/MANthe purpleוַיַּלְבִּישֻׁהוּvay/yal/bi/shu/HUand clothed himאֶת־בְּגָדָיוet-be/ga/DAYVhis garmentsוַיּוֹצִיאֻהוּvay/yo/tsi/U/huand led him outלִצְלֹבlits/LOVto crucifyאֹתוֹ׃o/TOhim

    And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple from him, and put his own clothes on him, and led him out to crucify him.

21. 21

    וְאִישׁve/ISHand a manאֶחָדe/CHADoneעָבַרa/VARpassed byוְהוּאve/HUand he wasבָאvacomingמִן־הַשָּׂדֶהmin-has/sa/DEfrom the fieldוּשְׁמוֹu/she/MOand his nameשִׁמְעוֹןShim/ONSimonהַקּוּרִינִיhak/Ku/ri/NIthe Cyrenianאֲבִיa/VIthe father ofאֲלֶכְסַנְדְּרוֹסA/lekh/san/de/ROSAlexanderוְרוּפוֹסve/Ru/FOSand Rufusוַיֶּאֶנְסוּvay/ye/en/SUand they forcedאֹתוֹo/TOhimלָשֵׂאתla/SETto carryאֶת־צְלוּבוֹ׃et-tse/lu/VOhis cross

    And they compel one Simon a Cyrenian, who passed by, coming out of the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to bear his cross.

22. 22

    וַיְבִיאֻהוּvay/vi/U/huand they brought himאֶל־הַמָּקוֹםel-ham/ma/KOMto the placeגָּלְגָּלְתָּאGal/gal/TAGolgothaהוּאhuthat isמְקוֹםme/KOMthe place ofהַגֻּלְגֹּלֶת׃hag/gul/GO/letthe skull

    And they bring him unto the place Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, The place of a skull.

23. 23

    וַיִּתְּנוּ־לוֹvay/yit/te/NU-loand they gave himלִשְׁתּוֹתlish/TOTto drinkיַיִןYA/yinwineמָסוּךְma/SUKHmixedבְּמֹרbe/MORwith myrrhוְהוּאve/HUbut heלֹאlonotלָקָח׃la/KACHhe took

    And they gave him to drink wine mingled with myrrh: but he received it not.

24. 24

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenצָלְבוּtsa/le/VUthey crucifiedאוֹתוֹo/TOhimוַיְחַלְּקוּvay/chal/le/KUand they dividedבְגָדָיוve/ga/DAYVhis garmentsלָהֶםla/HEMamong themוַיַּפִּילוּvay/yap/PI/luand castעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMfor themגּוֹרָלgo/RALlotsמַה־יִּקַּחma-yik/KACHwhat would takeאִישׁisheachאִישׁ׃ishman

    And when they had crucified him, they parted his garments, casting lots upon them, what every man should take.

25. 25

    וַתְּהִיvat/te/HIand it wasהַשָּׁעָהhash/sha/Athe hourהַשְּׁלִישִׁיתhash/she/li/SHITthirdוַיִּצְלְבֻהוּ׃vay/yits/le/vu/HUand they crucified him

    And it was the third hour, and they crucified him.

26. 26

    וּמִכְתַּבu/mikh/TAVand the writing ofדְּבַר־אַשְׁמָתוֹde/VAR-ash/ma/TOthe matter of his guiltכָּתוּבka/TUVwas writtenלְמַעְלָהle/MA/laaboveמֶלֶךְME/lekhthe king ofהַיְּהוּדִים׃hay/Ye/hu/DIMthe Jews

    And the superscription of his accusation was written over, THE KING OF THE JEWS.

27. 27

    וַיִּצְלְבוּvay/yits/le/VUand they crucifiedאִתּוֹit/TOwith himשְׁנֵיshe/NEtwoפָרִיצִיםfa/ri/TSIMrobbersאֶחָדe/CHADoneלִימִינוֹli/mi/NOat his rightוְאֶחָדve/e/CHADand oneלִשְׂמֹאלוֹ׃lis/mo/LOat his left

    And with him they crucify two thieves; the one on his right hand, and the other on his left.

28. 28

    וַיִּמָּלֵאvay/yim/ma/LEand was fulfilledהַכָּתוּבhak/ka/TUVthe scriptureהָאֹמֵרha/o/MERthat saysוְאֶת־פֹּשְׁעִיםve/ET-posh/IMand with transgressorsנִמְנָה׃nim/NAhe was numbered

    And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was numbered with the transgressors.

29. 29

    וְהָעֹבְרִיםve/ha/ov/RIMand those passing byגִּדְּפוּgid/de/FUblasphemedאוֹתוֹo/TOhimוַיָּנִיעוּvay/ya/NI/uand shookרֹאשָׁםro/SHAMtheir headsוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand sayingהֶאָחhe/ACHahaאַתָּהat/TAyouהַהוֹרֵסha/ho/RESwho tears downאֶת־הַהֵיכָלet-ha/he/KHALthe templeוּבוֹנֶהu/vo/NEand buildsאוֹתוֹo/TOitבִּשְׁלֹשֶׁתbish/LO/shetin threeיָמִים׃ya/MIMdays

    And they that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads, and saying, Ah, thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days,

30. 30

    הוֹשַׁעho/SHAsaveאֶת־עַצְמֶךָet-ats/me/KHAyourselfוּרְדָהu/re/DAand come downמִן־הַצְּלוּב׃min-hats/tse/LUVfrom the cross

    Save thyself, and come down from the cross.

31. 31

    וְכֵןve/KHENand soגַּם־רָאשֵׁיgam-ra/SHEalso the chiefs ofהַכֹּהֲנִיםhak/ko/ha/NIMthe priestsעִם־הַסּוֹפְרִיםim-has/sof/RIMwith the scribesהִתְלוֹצְצוּhit/lots/TSUmockedאִישׁisha manאֶל־רֵעֵהוּel-re/E/huto his neighborוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidאֶת־אֲחֵרִיםet-a/che/RIMothersהוֹשִׁיעַho/SHI/ahe savedוְאֶת־עַצְמוֹve/ET-ats/MOand himselfלֹאlonotיוּכַלyu/KHALcan heלְהוֹשִׁיעַ׃le/ho/SHI/ato save

    Likewise also the chief priests mocking said among themselves with the scribes, He saved others; himself he cannot save.

32. 32

    הַמָּשִׁיחַham/Ma/SHI/achthe MessiahמֶלֶךְME/lekhthe king ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelיֵרֵדye/REDlet come downעַתָּהat/TAnowמִן־הַצְּלוּבmin-hats/tse/LUVfrom the crossלְמַעַןle/MA/anso thatנִרְאֶהnir/Ewe may seeוְנַאֲמִיןve/na/a/MINand believeוְגַם־הַנִּצְלָבִיםve/GAM-han/nits/la/VIMand also those crucifiedאִתּוֹit/TOwith himחֵרְפוּהוּ׃cher/fu/HUreviled him

    Let Christ the King of Israel descend now from the cross, that we may see and believe. And they that were crucified with him reviled him.

33. 33

    וּבִהְיוֹתu/vih/YOTand when wasהַשָּׁעָהhash/sha/Athe hourהַשִּׁשִּׁיתhash/shish/SHITsixthהָיָהha/YAthere wasחֹשֶׁךְCHO/shekhdarknessעַל־כׇּל־הָאָרֶץal-kol-ha/A/retsover all the landעַדaduntilהַשָּׁעָהhash/sha/Athe hourהַתְּשִׁיעִית׃hat/te/shi/ITninth

    And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.

34. 34

    וּבַשָּׁעָהu/vash/sha/Aand at the hourהַתְּשִׁיעִיתhat/te/shi/ITninthוַיִּזְעַקvay/yiz/AKcried outיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusבְּקוֹלbe/KOLwith a voiceגָּדוֹלga/DOLloudאֱלָהִיE/la/HIEloiאֱלָהִיE/la/HIEloiלְמָהle/MAlamaשְׁבַקְתַּנִיshe/vak/ta/NIsabachthaniוּפֵרוּשׁוֹu/fe/ru/SHOand its meaningאֵלִיe/LImy Godאֵלִיe/LImy Godלָמָהla/MAwhyעֲזַבְתָּנִי׃a/zav/TA/nihave You forsaken me

    And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

35. 35

    וַיִּשְׁמְעוּvay/yish/me/Uand heardאֲנָשִׁיםa/na/SHIMmenמִן־הָעֹמְדִיםmin-ha/om/DIMof those standingשָׁםshamthereוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdאֶל־אֵלִיָּסel-E/liy/YASto Eliasהוּאhuheקוֹרֵא׃ko/REcalls

    And some of them that stood by, when they heard it, said, Behold, he calleth Elias.

36. 36

    וַיָּרׇץvay/YA/rotsand ranאֶחָדe/CHADoneמֵהֶםme/HEMof themוַיְמַלֵּאvay/mal/LEand filledסְפוֹגse/FOGa spongeחֹמֶץCHO/metswith vinegarוַיָּשֶׂםvay/YA/semand putעַל־קָנֶהal-ka/NEon a reedוַיַּשְׁקֵהוּvay/yash/ke/HUand gave him drinkוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהַנִּיחוּhan/NI/chuleaveוְנִרְאֶהve/nir/Eand let us seeאִם־יָבֹאim-ya/VOif will comeאֵלִיָּסE/liy/YASEliasלְהוֹרִידוֹ׃le/ho/ri/DOto bring him down

    And one ran and filled a sponge full of vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink, saying, Let alone; let us see whether Elias will come to take him down.

37. 37

    וְיֵשׁוּעַve/Ye/SHU/aand Jesusנָתַןna/TANgaveקוֹלkola voiceגָּדוֹלga/DOLloudוַיִּפַּחvay/yip/PACHand breathed outאֶת־נַפְשׁוֹ׃et-naf/SHOhis soul

    And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost.

38. 38

    וּפָרֹכֶתu/fa/RO/khetand the veil ofהַהֵיכָלha/he/KHALthe templeנִקְרְעָהnik/re/Awas tornלִשְׁנַיִםlish/NA/yimin twoקְרָעִיםke/ra/IMpiecesמִלְמַעְלָהmil/MA/lafrom aboveלְמָטָּה׃le/MAT/tato below

    And the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom.

39. 39

    וַיַּרְאvay/YARand sawשַׂרsarthe commander ofהַמֵּאָהham/me/Athe hundredהָעֹמֵדha/o/MEDstandingמִנֶּגֶדmin/NE/gedoppositeכִּיkithatבְּזַעֲקוֹbe/za/a/KOin his crying outכָכָהKHA/khathusיָצְאָהya/tse/Awent outנַפְשׁוֹnaf/SHOhis soulוַיֹּאמַרvay/yo/MARand saidאָכֵןa/KHENtrulyהָאִישׁha/ISHthe manהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisהָיָהha/YAwasבֶן־הָאֱלֹהִים׃ven-Ha/e/lo/HIMthe Son of God

    And when the centurion, which stood over against him, saw that he so cried out, and gave up the ghost, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God.

    וְגַם־נָשִׁיםve/GAM-na/SHIMand also womenהָיוּha/YUwereשָׁםshamthereצֹפוֹתtso/FOTwatchingמֵרָחוֹקme/ra/CHOKfrom afarוּבְתוֹכָןu/ve/to/KHANand among themגַּם־מִרְיָםgam-Mir/YAMalso MaryהַמַּגְדָּלִיתHam/mag/da/LITMagdaleneוּמִרְיָםu/Mir/YAMand Maryאֵם־יַעֲקֹבem-Ya/a/KOVthe mother of Jamesהַצָּעִירhats/tsa/IRthe lessוְיוֹסֵיve/Yo/SEand of Josesוּשְׁלֹמִית׃u/She/lo/MITand Salome

    There were also women looking on afar off: among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome;

    אֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoבִּהְיוֹתוֹbih/yo/TOwhen he wasבַגָּלִילVag/ga/LILin Galileeגַּם־הָלְכוּgam-ha/le/KHUalso wentאַחֲרָיוa/cha/RAYVafter himוְגַםve/GAMand alsoשֵׁרְתֻהוּsher/tu/HUserved himוַאֲחֵרוֹתva/a/che/ROTand othersרַבּוֹתrab/BOTmanyאֲשֶׁר־עָלוּa/SHER-a/LUwho went upאִתּוֹit/TOwith himיְרוּשָׁלָיִם׃Ye/ru/sha/LA/yimto Jerusalem

    (Who also, when he was in Galilee, followed him, and ministered unto him;) and many other women which came up with him unto Jerusalem.

42. 42

    וְעֵתve/ETand the time ofהָעֶרֶבha/E/revthe evenהִגִּיעַhig/GI/aarrivedוּמִפְּנֵיu/mip/pe/NEand becauseאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatעֶרֶבE/revthe eve ofשַׁבָּתshab/BATsabbathהָיָהha/YAit wasהוּאhuit isהַיּוֹםhay/YOMthe dayשֶׁלִּפְנֵיshel/lif/NEthat is beforeהַשַּׁבָּת׃hash/shab/BATthe sabbath

    And now when the even was come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath,

    וַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOcameיוֹסֵףYo/SEFJosephהָרָמָתִיha/Ra/ma/TIof Arimathaeaיוֹעֵץyo/ETSa counselorנִכְבָּדnikh/BADhonoredאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoהָיָהha/YAwasמְחַכֶּהme/chak/KEwaitingגַם־הוּאgam-huhe alsoלְמַלְכוּתle/mal/KHUTfor the kingdom ofהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodוַיִּתְחַזֵּקvay/yit/chaz/ZEKand took courageוַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameאֶל־פִּילָטוֹסel-Pi/la/TOSto Pilateוַיִּשְׁאַלvay/yish/ALand askedאֶת־גּוּפַתet-gu/FATthe body ofיֵשׁוּעַ׃Ye/SHU/aJesus

    Joseph of Arimathæa, an honourable counsellor, which also waited for the kingdom of God, came, and went in boldly unto Pilate, and craved the body of Jesus.

44. 44

    וַיִּתְמַהּvay/yit/MAand marveledפִּילָטוֹסPi/la/TOSPilateעַל־אֲשֶׁרal-a/SHERthatמֵתmethe was deadוַיִּקְרָאvay/yik/RAand he calledאֶל־שַׂרel-sarto the commander ofהַמֵּאָהham/me/Athe hundredוַיִּשְׁאָלֵהוּvay/yish/a/LE/huand asked himהַכְּבָרhak/ke/VARwhether alreadyגָּוָע׃ga/VAhe had died

    And Pilate marvelled if he were already dead: and calling unto him the centurion, he asked him whether he had been any while dead.

45. 45

    וַיֵּדַעvay/YE/daand he knewמִפִּי־שַׂרmip/PI-sarfrom the mouth of the commander ofהַמֵּאָהham/me/Athe hundredכִּי־כֵןki-khenthat it was soוַיִּתֵּןvay/yit/TENhe gaveאֶת־גּוּפָתוֹet-gu/fa/TOhis bodyמַתָּנָהmat/ta/NAas a giftלְיוֹסֵף׃le/Yo/SEFto Joseph

    And when he knew it of the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph.

46. 46

    וְהוּאve/HUand heקָנָהka/NAboughtסָדִיןsa/DINa linen clothוַיּוֹרֶדvay/YO/redand took downאֹתוֹo/TOhimוַיִּכְרְכֵהוּvay/yikh/re/khe/HUand wrapped himבַּסָּדִיןbas/sa/DINin the linen clothוַיְשִׂימֵהוּvay/si/ME/huand put himבְקֶבֶרve/KE/verin a tombחָצוּבcha/TSUVhewnבַּסָּלַעbas/SA/laout of a rockוַיָּגָלvay/ya/GALand rolledאֶבֶןE/vena stoneעַל־פֶּתַחal-PE/tachon the opening ofהַקָּבֶר׃hak/KA/verthe tomb

    And he bought fine linen, and took him down, and wrapped him in the linen, and laid him in a sepulchre which was hewn out of a rock, and rolled a stone unto the door of the sepulchre.

47. 47

    וּמִרְיָםu/Mir/YAMand MaryהַמַּגְדָּלִיתHam/mag/da/LITMagdaleneוּמִרְיָםu/Mir/YAMand Maryאֵםemthe mother ofיוֹסֵיYo/SEJosesרָאוּra/Usawאֶת־הַמָּקוֹםet-ham/ma/KOMthe placeאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhereהוּשַׂםhu/SAMhe was putשָׁמָּה׃SHAM/mathere

    And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses beheld where he was laid.
