    וְיֵשׁוּעַAnd Jesusשָׁבreturnedמִן־הַיַּרְדֵּןfrom the Jordan,וְהוּאand heמָלֵאwas full ofרוּחַ־הַקֹּדֶשׁthe Holy Ghost,וַיִּשָׂאֵהוּand carried him awayהָרוּחַthe Spiritהַמִּדְבָּרָה׃into the wilderness,

    And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,

    וַיְנַסֵּהוּand tempted himהַשָּׂטָןthe adversaryאַרְבָּעִיםfortyיוֹםdays.וְלֹאAnd notאָכַלdid he eatמְאוּמָהanythingבַּיָּמִיםin the daysהָהֵםthose;וְאַחֲרֵיand afterאֲשֶׁר־תַּמּוּthey were ended,וַיִּרְעָב׃he hungered.

    Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered.

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd saidאֵלָיוunto himהַשָּׂטָןthe adversary,אִםIfבֶּן־הָאֱלֹהִיםthe Son of Godאַתָּהyou be,דַּבֵּרspeakאֶל־הָאֶבֶןunto the stoneהַזֹּאתthis,וּתְהִיthat it becomeלְלָחֶם׃bread.

    And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread.

    וַיַּעַןAnd answeredאֹתוֹhimיֵשׁוּעַJesus,הֵןBehold,כָּתוּבit is written,כִּיthatלֹאnotעַל־הַלֶּחֶםby breadלְבַדּוֹaloneיִחְיֶהshall liveהָאָדָםthe man,כִּיbutעַל־כׇּל־מוֹצָאby everything that proceeds fromפִי־יְהוָֹה׃the mouth of the LORD.

    And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.

    וַיַּעֲלֵהוּAnd brought him upהַשָּׂטָןthe adversaryעַל־הַרupon a mountainגָּבֹהַּhigh,וַיַּרְאֵהוּand shewed himבְּרֶגַעin a moment ofאֶחָדoneאֵת־כׇּל־מַמְלְכוֹתall the kingdoms ofתֵּבֵל׃the world.

    And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd saidאֵלָיוunto himהַשָּׂטָןthe adversary,לְךָUnto youאֶתֵּןwill I giveאֶת־כׇּל־הַמֶּמְשָׁלָהall the dominionהַזֹּאתthisוְאֶת־כְּבוֹדָןand their glory,כִּי־נִמְסְרָהfor it has been deliveredבְיָדִיinto my hand,וּנְתַתִּיהָand I give itלַאֲשֶׁרunto whomאֶחְפָּץ׃I please.

    And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.

    וְעַתָּהNow therefore,אִם־תִּשְׁתַּחֲוֶהif you bow downלְפָנָיbefore me,הַכֹּלallיִהְיֶה־לָּךְ׃shall be yours.

    If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine.

  8. 8

    וַיַּעַןAnd answeredיֵשׁוּעַJesusוַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֵלָיוunto him,סוּרDepartמִמֶּנִּיfrom me,הַשָּׂטָןSatan;כִּיforכָתוּבit is written,לַיְהוָֹהUnto the LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָyour Godתִּשְׁתַּחֲוֶהshall you bow down,וְאֹתוֹand himלְבַדּוֹaloneתַּעֲבֹד׃shall you serve.

    And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

    וַיְבִיאֵהוּAnd he brought himיְרוּשָׁלַיִםto Jerusalem,וַיַּעֲמִידֵהוּand set himעַל־פִּנַּתupon the corner ofגַּגthe roof ofבֵּית־הַמִּקְדָּשׁthe house of the temple,וַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֵלָיוunto him,אִםIfבֶּן־הָאֱלֹהִיםthe Son of Godאַתָּהyou be,נְפֹלcast thyselfמִזֶּהfrom this placeמָטָּה׃down.

    And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence:

    כִּיForכָתוּבit is written,כִּי־מַלְאָכָיוfor his angelsיְצַוֶּה־לָּךְhe shall command concerning you,לְשָׁמְרֶךָ׃to guard you;

    For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee:

  11. 11

    וְכִיand thatעַל־כַּפַּיִםupon their palmsיִשָׂאוּנְךָthey shall bear you up,פֶּן־תִּגֹּףlest you strikeבָּאֶבֶןagainst a stoneרַגְלֶךָ׃your foot.

    And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

  12. 12

    וַיַּעַןAnd answeredיֵשׁוּעַJesusוַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֵלָיוunto him,הֵןBehold,נֶאֱמַרit is said,לֹאnotתְנַסֶּהshall you temptאֵת־יְהוָֹהthe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָ׃your God.

    And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

  13. 13

    וּכְכַלּוֹתAnd when had finishedהַשָּׂטָןthe adversaryכׇּל־מַסָּהevery temptation,וַיִּרֶףhe withdrewמִמֶּנּוּfrom himעַד־עֵת׃until a season.

    And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season.

  14. 14

    וַיָּשׇׁבAnd returnedיֵשׁוּעַJesusבִּגְבוּרַתin the power ofהָרוּחַthe Spiritאֶל־הַגָּלִילunto the Galilee,וַיֵּצֵאand went forthשׇׁמְעוֹthe report of himבְּכׇל־הַכִּכָּר׃throughout all the region.

    And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about.

  15. 15

    וְהוּאAnd heמְלַמֵּדwas teachingבִּכְנֵסִיּוֹתֵיהֶםin their synagogues,וַיְהַלֲלֻהוּand praised himכֻּלָּם׃all of them.

    And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all.

  16. 16

    וַיָּבֹאAnd he cameאֶל־נְצֶרֶתunto Nazareth,אֲשֶׁרwhereגֻּדַּל־שָׁםhe had been raised,וַיֵּלֶךְand he wentכְּמִשְׁפָּטוֹaccording to his customבְּיוֹםon the day ofהַשַּׁבָּתthe sabbathאֶל־בֵּיתunto the house ofהַכְּנֵסֶתthe assembly,וַיָּקׇםand he roseלִקְרֹאto readבַסֵּפֶר׃in the scroll.

    And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.

    וַיֻּתַּן־לוֹAnd there was given to himסֵפֶרthe book ofיְשַׁעְיָהוּEsaiasהַנָּבִיאthe prophet,וַיִּפְתַּחand he openedאֶת־הַסֵּפֶרthe bookוַיִּמְצָאand foundאֶת־הַמָּקוֹםthe placeאֲשֶׁרwhereהָיָה־כָתוּבwas writtenבּוֹ׃in it,

    And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,

  18. 18

    רוּחַThe Spirit ofאֲדֹנָיthe Lordעָלָיis upon me,יַעַןbecauseמָשַׁחhe hath anointedאֹתִיmeלְבַשֵׂרto bring good tidings toעֲנָוִיםthe meek;שְׁלָחַנִיhe hath sent meלַחֲבֹשׁto bind upלְנִשְׁבְּרֵי־לֵבthe broken-hearted,לִקְרֹאto proclaimלִשְׁבוּיִםunto captivesדְּרוֹרliberty,וּלְעִוְרִיםand unto the blindפְּקַח־קוֹחַthe opening of eyes,לְשַׁלַּחto sendרְצוּצִיםthe bruisedחׇפְשִׁים׃free,

    The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

    לִקְרֹאto proclaimשְׁנַת־רָצוֹןthe year of favorלַיְהוָֹה׃of the LORD.

    To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

  20. 20

    וַיְהִיAnd it came to passכַּאֲשֶׁרwhenגָּלַלhe rolled upאֶת־הַסֵּפֶרthe book,וַיְשִׁיבֵהוּand gave it backאֶל־הַחַזָּןunto the attendant,וַיֵּשֶׁבand he sat down;וְעֵינֵיand the eyes ofכׇּל־אֲשֶׁרall who wereבְּבֵיתin the house ofהַכְּנֵסֶתthe assemblyנְשֻׂאוֹתwere liftedאֵלָיו׃unto him.

    And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.

  21. 21

    וַיָּחֶלAnd he beganוַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,הַיּוֹםTodayנִתְמַלֵּאis fulfilledהַכָּתוּבthe writingהַזֶּהthisבְּאׇזְנֵיכֶם׃in your ears.

    And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

  22. 22

    וְכֻלָּםAnd all of themהֱעִידֻהוּbore witness of him,וְתָמְהוּand they marvelledעַל־דִּבְרֵיat the words ofחֵןgraceהַיֹּצְאִיםthat went forthמִפִּיהוּfrom his mouth,וַיֹּאמְרוּand they said,הֲלֹא־זֶהIs this notהוּאhe,בֶּן־יוֹסֵף׃son of Joseph?

    And all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph's son?

  23. 23

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,הֵןBehold,תֹּאמְרוּyou shall sayלִיunto meאֶת־הַמָּשָׁלthe proverbהַזֶּהthis,רֹפֵאPhysician,רְפָאhealאֶת־עַצְמֶךָthyself;וּכְכֹלand according to allאֲשֶׁרthatשָׁמַעְנוּwe have heardשֶׁנַּעֲשָׂהthat was doneבִּכְפַר־נַחוּםin Capernaum,עֲשֵׂה־כֵןdo you likewiseגַּם־פֹּהalso hereבְּעִירin the city ofמוֹלַדְתֶּךָ׃your birth.

    And he said unto them, Ye will surely say unto me this proverb, Physician, heal thyself: whatsoever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in thy country.

  24. 24

    וַיֹּאמַרAnd he said,אָמֵןVerilyאֹמֵרsayאֲנִיIלָכֶםunto you,אֵין־נָבִיאthere is no prophetרָצוּיacceptedבְּאֶרֶץin the land ofמוֹלַדְתּוֹ׃his birth.

    And he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country.

  25. 25

    וֶאֱמֶתBut of a truthאַגִּידI tellלָכֶםyou,אַלְמָנוֹתwidowsרַבּוֹתmanyהָיוּwereבְיִשְׂרָאֵלin Israelבִּימֵיin the days ofאֵלִיָּסElias,בְּהֵעָצֵרwhen were shut upהַשָּׁמַיִםthe heavensשָׁלֹשׂthreeשָׁנִיםyearsוְשִׁשָּׁהand sixחֳדָשִׁיםmonths,וַיְהִיand there wasרָעָבa famineגָּדוֹלgreatבְּכׇל־הָאָרֶץ׃in all the land;

    But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elias, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land;

  26. 26

    וְאֵלִיָּסyet unto Eliasלֹא־נִשְׁלַחhe was not sentאֶל־אַחַתunto oneמֵהֵנָּהof them,זוּלָתִיexceptצָרְפַתָהto Zarephathאֲשֶׁרwhichלְצִידוֹןbelongs to Sidon,אֶל־אִשָּׁהunto a womanאַלְמָנָה׃that was a widow.

    But unto none of them was Elias sent, save unto Sarepta, a city of Sidon, unto a woman that was a widow.

  27. 27

    וּמְצֹרָעִיםAnd lepersרַבִּיםmanyהָיוּwereבְיִשְׂרָאֵלin Israelבִּימֵיin the days ofאֱלִישָׁעElishaהַנָּבִיאthe prophet,וְלֹאand notטֹהַרwas cleansedאֶחָדoneמֵהֶםof them,זוּלָתִיexceptנַעֲמָןNaamanהָאֲרַמִּי׃the Aramean.

    And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Eliseus the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, saving Naaman the Syrian.

  28. 28

    וְכֹלAnd allאֲשֶׁרwho wereבְּבֵיתin the house ofהַכְּנֵסֶתthe assembly,כְּשׇׁמְעָםwhen they heardאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםthe wordsהָאֵלֶּהthese,וַיִּמָּלְאוּwere filled withחֵמָה׃wrath;

    And all they in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath,

  29. 29

    וַיָּקוּמוּand they rose upוַיַּדִּיחוּand thrustאוֹתוֹhimאֶל־מִחוּץoutsideלָעִירof the city,וַיְבִיאֻהוּand brought himעַד־גַּבunto the brow ofהָהָרthe mountainאֲשֶׁרupon whichנִבְנְתָהwas builtעִירָםtheir city,עָלָיוupon it,לְמַעַןin orderהַשְׁלִיכוֹto cast himמָטָּה׃downward.

    And rose up, and thrust him out of the city, and led him unto the brow of the hill whereon their city was built, that they might cast him down headlong.

  30. 30

    אַךְ־הוּאBut he,עָבַרpassingבְּתוֹכָםthrough the midst of them,וַיֵּלֶךְwentלְדַרְכּוֹ׃upon his way.

    But he passing through the midst of them went his way,

  31. 31

    וַיֵּרֶדAnd he went downאֶל־כְּפַר־נַחוּםunto Capernaum,עִירa city ofהַגָּלִילthe Galilee,וַיְלַמְּדֵםand was teaching themבַּשַּׁבָּתוֹת׃on the sabbaths.

    And came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and taught them on the sabbath days.

  32. 32

    וַיִּשְׁתּוֹמֲמוּAnd they marvelledעַל־תּוֹרָתוֹat his teaching,כִּיforדְּבָרa word ofשִׁלְטוֹןauthorityדְּבָרוֹ׃was his word.

    And they were astonished at his doctrine: for his word was with power.

  33. 33

    וּבְבֵיתAnd in the house ofהַכְּנֵסֶתthe assemblyהָיָהwasאִישׁa manוּבוֹin whom wasרוּחַa spirit ofשֵׁדa demonטָמֵאunclean,וַיִּזְעַקand he cried outבְּקוֹלwith a voiceגָּדוֹלloud,לֵאמֹר׃saying,

    And in the synagogue there was a man, which had a spirit of an unclean devil, and cried out with a loud voice,

    אֲהָהּAlas,מַה־לָּנוּwhat to usוָלָךְand to you,יֵשׁוּעַJesusהַנָּצְרִיthe Nazarene?כִּי־בָאתָare you comeלְהַאֲבִידֵנוּto destroy us?יְדַעְתִּיךָI know you,מִיwhoאַתָּהyou are,קְדוֹשׁthe holy one ofהָאֱלֹהִים׃God.

    Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art; the Holy One of God.

  35. 35

    וַיִּגְעַר־בּוֹAnd rebuked himיֵשׁוּעַJesus,לֵאמֹרsaying,הֵאָלֵםBe silent,וְצֵאand come outמִמֶּנּוּfrom him.וַיַּפִּילֵהוּAnd cast him downהַשֵּׁדthe demonבְּתוֹכָםin their midst,וַיֵּצֵאand came outמִמֶּנּוּfrom him,לֹאnotהֵרַעhaving harmedלוֹ׃him.

    And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the devil had thrown him in the midst, he came out of him, and hurt him not.

  36. 36

    וַתִּפֹּלAnd fellאֵימָהfearעַל־כֻּלָּםupon all of them,וַיְדַבְּרוּand they spokeאִישׁeach manאֶל־רֵעֵהוּunto his fellow,לֵאמֹרsaying,מָהWhat isהַדָּבָרthe matterהַזֶּהthis?כִּי־בְשָׁלְטָןfor with authorityוּבִגְבוּרָהand with powerמְצַוֶּהhe commandsלְרוּחוֹתthe spirits ofהַטֻּמְאָהthe uncleanness,וְהֵמָּהand theyיֹצְאִים׃come forth.

    And they were all amazed, and spake among themselves, saying, What a word is this! for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out.

  37. 37

    וְשׇׁמְעוֹAnd the report of himהוֹלֵךְwas goingבְּכׇל־מְקֹמוֹתinto all the places ofהַכִּכָּר׃the region.

    And the fame of him went out into every place of the country round about.

  38. 38

    וַיָּקׇםAnd he aroseמִבֵּיתfrom the house ofהַכְּנֵסֶתthe assembly,וַיָּבֹאand he cameבֵּיתָהto the house ofשִׁמְעוֹןSimon;וְחֹתֶנֶתand the mother-in-law ofשִׁמְעוֹןSimonאֲחָזַתָּהwas seized of herקַדַּחַתa feverרָעָהgreat,וַיִּפְגְּעוּand they entreatedבוֹhimבַּעֲדָהּ׃for her.

    And he arose out of the synagogue, and entered into Simon's house. And Simon's wife's mother was taken with a great fever; and they besought him for her.

  39. 39

    וַיִּתְיַצֵּבAnd he stoodעָלֶיהָover her,וַיִּגְעַרand rebukedבַּקַּדַּחַתthe fever,וַתִּרֶףand it left herמִמֶּנָּהfrom her;וַתָּקׇםand she aroseמְהֵרָהquicklyוַתְּשָׁרֵתand ministered toאֹתָם׃them.

    And he stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she arose and ministered unto them.

  40. 40

    וְהָיָהAnd it came to pass,כֹּלallאֲשֶׁרwhoלָהֶםhad to themחֹלִיםsick peopleחֳלָיִיםwith sicknessesשׁוֹנִיםvarious,וַיְבִיאוּםthey brought themאֵלָיוunto himכְּבוֹאat the coming ofהַשָּׁמֶשׁthe sun,וַיָּשֶׂםand he placedאֶת־יָדָיוhis handsעַל־כׇּל־אֶחָדupon each oneמֵהֶםof them,וַיְרַפֵּאand healedאוֹתָם׃them.

    Now when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them.

  41. 41

    וְגַם־שֵׁדִיםAnd also demonsיָצְאוּwent outמֵרַבִּיםfrom many,וְהֵםand theyקֹרְאִיםwere cryingוְאֹמְרִיםand saying,אַתָּהYouהוּאartהַמָּשִׁיחַthe Christ,בֶּן־הָאֱלֹהִיםthe Son of God.וַיִּגְעַר־בָּםAnd he rebuked them,וְלֹאand notנְתָנָםdid he allow themלְדַבֵּרto speak,כִּיforיָדְעוּthey knewאֲשֶׁרthatהוּאhe isהַמָּשִׁיחַ׃the Christ.

    And devils also came out of many, crying out, and saying, Thou art Christ the Son of God. And he rebuking them suffered them not to speak: for they knew that he was Christ.

  42. 42

    וּכְאוֹרAnd at the light ofהַבֹּקֶרthe morningיָצָאhe went forthוַיֵּלֶךְ־לוֹand wentאֶל־מְקוֹםunto a placeשׁוֹמֵםdesolate;וַהֲמוֹןand the multitude ofהָעָםthe peopleבִּקְשֻׁהוּsought him,וַיָּבֹאוּand cameעָדָיוunto him,וַיִּפְצְרוּ־בוֹand they urged himלְבִלְתִּיnotסוּרto departמֵהֶם׃from them.

    And when it was day, he departed and went into a desert place: and the people sought him, and came unto him, and stayed him, that he should not depart from them.

  43. 43

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saidלָהֶםunto them,הֵןBehold,עָלַיupon me is itלְבַשֵׂרto bring good tidingsגַּם־לֶעָרִיםalso to the citiesהָאֲחֵרוֹתotherאֶת־בְּשׂוֹרַתof the gospel ofמַלְכוּתthe kingdom ofהָאֱלֹהִיםGod,כִּיforלָזֹאתunto thisשֻׁלָּחְתִּי׃I was sent.

    And he said unto them, I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also: for therefore am I sent.

  44. 44

    וַיְהִיAnd he wasקוֹרֵאproclaimingבְּבָתֵּיin the houses ofכְנֵסִיּוֹתassemblyשֶׁבַּגָּלִיל׃that are in the Galilee.

    And he preached in the synagogues of Galilee.
