1. 1

   וּבְאֶחָדNow upon the first day ofבַּשַּׁבָּתthe week,לִפְנֵיbeforeעֲלוֹתthe rising ofהַשַּׁחַרthe dawn,בָּאוּthey cameאֶל־הַקֶּבֶרunto the sepulchre,וַתְּבִיאֶינָהbringingאֶת־הַסַּמִּיםthe spicesאֲשֶׁרwhichהֵכִינוּthey had prepared,וְעִמָּהֶןand with themנָשִׁיםwomenאֲחֵרוֹת׃other.

   Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.

   וַתִּרְאֶינָהAnd they foundוְהִנֵּהbehold,הָאֶבֶןthe stoneגְּלוּלָהrolled awayמִן־הַקָּבֶר׃from the sepulchre.

   And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.

3. 3

   וַתָּבֹאנָהAnd they enteredאֶל־תּוֹכוֹin thereinto,וְלֹאand notמָצְאוּfoundאֶת־גְּוִיַּתthe body ofהָאָדוֹןthe Lordיֵשׁוּעַ׃Jesus.

   And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.

4. 4

   וַיְהִיAnd it came to pass,הֵנָּהas theyנְבֻכוֹתwere much perplexedעַל־הַדָּבָרat the matterהַזֶּהthis,וְהִנֵּהbehold,שְׁנֵיtwoאֲנָשִׁיםmenעָמְדוּstoodעֲלֵיהֶןby themוּלְבוּשֵׁיהֶםinמַזְהִירִים׃shining garments:

   And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments:

   וַיִּפֹּלAnd fellפַּחַדfearעֲלֵיהֶןupon them,וַתִּשְׁתַּחֲוֶינָהand bowed downפְּנֵיהֶןtheir facesאָרְצָהto the earth,וַיֹּאמְרוּthey saidאֲלֵיהֶןunto them,מַה־תְּבַקֵּשְׁנָהWhy seek youאֶת־הַחַיthe livingבֵּיןamongהַמֵּתִים׃the dead?

   And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?

   אֵינֶנּוּHe is notפֹהhere,כִּיbutקָםis risen:זְכֹרְנָהrememberאֵת־אֲשֶׁר־דִּבֶּרhow he spakeאֲלֵיכֶןunto youבְּעוֹדֶנּוּwhen he was yetבַגָּלִילin Galilee,לֵאמֹר׃saying,

   He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,

   כִּיThatצָרִיךְmustבֶּן־הָאָדָםThe Son of manלְהִמָּסֵרbe deliveredלִידֵיinto the hands ofאֲנָשִׁיםmenחַטָּאִיםsinful,וּלְהִצָּלֵבand be crucified,וּבַיּוֹםand the dayהַשְּׁלִישִׁיthirdקוֹםhe shall surelyיָקוּם׃rise again.

   Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.

8. 8

   וַתִּזְכֹּרְנָהAnd they rememberedאֶת־דְּבָרָיו׃his words,

   And they remembered his words,

9. 9

   וַתָּשֹׁבְנָהAnd returnedמִן־הַקָּבֶרfrom the sepulchre,וַתַּגֵּדְנָהand toldאֵת־כׇּל־הַדְּבָרִיםall thingsהָאֵלֶּהtheseלְעַשְׁתֵּי־הֶעָשָׂרunto the eleven,וּלְכׇל־הַנִּשְׁאָרִים׃and to all the rest.

   And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest.

    וְאֵלֶּהAnd theseהֵןwere theyאֲשֶׁרwhichהִגִּידוּtoldאֶל־הַשְּׁלִיחִיםthe apostlesאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםthe thingsהָאֵלֶּהtheseמִרְיָםwere MaryהַמַּגְדָּלִיתMagdalene,וְיוֹחָנָהand Joanna,וּמִרְיָםand Maryאֵםthe mother ofיַעֲקֹבJames,וְהָאֲחֵרוֹת׃and other women that were with them.

    It was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles.

11. 11

    וְדִבְרֵיהֶןAnd their wordsהָיוּseemedכְּדִבְרֵי־רִיקas idle tales,בְּעֵינֵיהֶםin their eyesוְלֹאand theyהֶאֱמִינוּbelievedלָהֶן׃them not.

    And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not.

12. 12

    וַיָּקׇםThen aroseפֶּטְרוֹסPeter,וַיָּרׇץand ranאֶל־הַקֶּבֶרunto the sepulchre;וַיַּשְׁקֵףand stooping down,וְלֹא־רָאָהand sawכִּיnothingאִם־הַתַּכְרִיכִיםbut the linen clothesמֻנָּחִיםlaidשָׁםthere,וַיָּשׇׁבand departedלִמְקוֹמוֹto his home,מִשְׁתּוֹמֵםwonderingעַל־אֲשֶׁרin himself atנִהְיָה׃that which was come to pass.

    Then arose Peter, and ran unto the sepulchre; and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass.

13. 13

    וְהִנֵּהAnd, behold,שְׁנַיִםtwoמֵהֶםof themהָיוּwereהֹלְכִיםgoingבְּעֶצֶםonהַיּוֹםdayהַזֶּהthat sameאֶל־כְּפָרto a villageאֶחָדcertain,הַרְחֵקdistantמִירוּשָׁלַיִםfrom Jerusalemכְּשִׁשִּׁיםabout threescoreרִיסfurlongs,וּשְׁמוֹcalledעַמָּאוּס׃Emmaus.

    And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs.

14. 14

    וְהֵםAnd theyנִדְבְּרוּtalkedאִישׁoneאֶל־רֵעֵהוּto anotherעַל־כׇּל־הַקֹּרוֹתof all these thingsהָאֵלֶּה׃which had happened.

    And they talked together of all these things which had happened.

15. 15

    וַיְהִיAnd it came to pass,הֵםthat, while theyמְדַבְּרִיםcommunedוּמִתְוַכְּחִיםand reasonedיָחַדtogether,וְהִנֵּהbehold,יֵשׁוּעַJesusעַצְמוֹhimselfנִגַּשׁdrew near,וַיֵּלֶךְand wentאִתָּם׃with them.

    And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.

16. 16

    וְעֵינֵיהֶםBut their eyesאֲחוּזוֹתwere holdenוְלֹאthat they should notיַכִּירֻהוּ׃know him.

    But their eyes were holden that they should not know him.

17. 17

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,מָהWhatהַדְּבָרִיםmanner of communicationsהָאֵלֶּהare theseאֲשֶׁרthatאַתֶּםyouנֹשְׂאִיםhaveוְנֹתְנִיםand holdבָּהֶםthereonיַחְדָּוone to another,בַּדָּרֶךְas you walk,וַיַּעַמְדוּand they stood still,וּפְנֵיהֶםtheir facesזֹעֲפִים׃downcast?

    And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad?

18. 18

    וַיַּעַןAnd answeringאֶחָדthe oneמֵהֶםof them,וּשְׁמוֹwhose name wasקְלֵיוֹפָסCleopas,וַיֹּאמֶרsaidאֵלָיוunto him,הַאַתָּהAre youלְבַדְּךָonlyגָּרa strangerבִּירוּשָׁלַיִםin Jerusalem,וְלֹאand hast notיָדַעְתָּknownאֶת־אֲשֶׁרthe things whichנַעֲשָׂהare come to passבְתוֹכָהּthereבַּיָּמִיםin days?הָאֵלֶּה׃these

    And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days?

19. 19

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,וּמָהWhatהִיאthings?וַיַּגִּידוּAnd they saidאֵלָיוunto him,מַעֲשֵׂהConcerningיֵשׁוּעַJesusהַנָּצְרִיof Nazareth,אֲשֶׁרwhichהָיָהwasאִישׁa man,נָבִיאa prophetגִּבּוֹרmightyבְּפֹעַלin deedוּבְאֹמֶרand wordלִפְנֵיbeforeהָאֱלֹהִיםGodוְלִפְנֵיandכׇּל־הָעָם׃all the people:

    And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:

20. 20

    וְכֹהֲנֵינוּAnd how chiefהַגְּדוֹלִיםpriestsוּזְקֵנֵינוּand our rulersהִסְגִּירֻהוּdelivered himלְמִשְׁפַּט־מָוֶתto be condemned to death,וַיִּצְלְבֻהוּ׃and have crucified him.

    And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him.

21. 21

    וַאֲנַחְנוּBut weקִוִּינוּtrustedכִּיthatזֶה־הוּאit had been heהֶעָתִידwhich shouldלִגְאֹלhave redeemedאֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵלIsrael:וְעַתָּהand beside all this,זֶהthisשְׁלשֶׁתis the thirdיָמִיםdayהַיּוֹםto dayמֵאָזsinceנַעֲשׂוּwere done.אֵלֶּה׃these things

    But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done.

22. 22

    אֶלָּאYea,שֶׁגַּם־נָשִׁיםand certain women alsoמִקִּרְבֵּנוּof our companyהֶחֱרִידֻנוּmade us astonished,אֲשֶׁר־קִדְּמוּwhich were earlyבַבֹּקֶרin the morningלָבֹאto comeאֶל־הַקָּבֶר׃to the sepulchre;

    Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre;

23. 23

    וְלֹאAnd when theyמָצְאוּfound notאֶת־גְּוִיָּתוֹhis body,וַתָּבֹאנָהthey came,וַתַּגֵּדְנָהsaying,כִּיthatרָאוּthey had also seenגַּם־מַרְאֵהa vision ofמַלְאָכִיםangels,הָאֹמְרִיםwhich saidכִּי־הוּאthat he wasחָי׃alive.

    And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive.

24. 24

    וַיֵּלְכוּAnd wentאֲנָשִׁיםcertain of themמִשֶּׁלָּנוּwhich were with usאֶל־הַקָּבֶרto the sepulchre,וַיִּמְצְאוּand foundכַּאֲשֶׁרeven so asאָמְרוּhad said:הַנָּשִׁיםthe womenוְאוֹתוֹbut himלֹאthey sawרָאוּ׃not.

    And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not.

25. 25

    וַיֹּאמֶרThen he saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,הוֹיOחַסְרֵיyou that are void ofדַעַתunderstanding,וְכִבְדֵיand slow ofלֵבheartמֵהַאֲמִיןto believeבְּכֹלallאֲשֶׁר־דִּבְּרוּthat have spoken:הַנְּבִיאִים׃the prophets

    Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:

26. 26

    הֲלֹאOught notעַל־הַמָּשִׁיחַChristהָיָהto haveלִסְבֹּלsufferedאֶת־כׇּל־זֹאתthese things,וּלְהִכָּנֵסand to enterבִּכְבוֹדוֹ׃into his glory?

    Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?

27. 27

    וַיָּחֶלAnd beginningמִמּשֶׁהat Mosesוּמִכׇּל־הַנְּבִיאִיםand all the prophets,וַיְבַאֵרhe expoundedלָהֶםunto themאֶת־כׇּל־הַכְּתוּבִיםin all the scripturesהַנֶּאֱמָרִיםthe thingsעָלָיו׃concerning himself.

    And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

28. 28

    וַיִּקְרְבוּAnd they drew nighאֶל־הַכְּפָרunto the village,אֲשֶׁר־הֵםwhither theyהֹלְכִיםwentשָׁמָּהthither:וַיָּשֶׂםand he made as thoughפָּנָיוhe would have goneוַיְהִיbeingכְּהֹלֵךְas one goingלוֹonלְדַרְכּוֹ׃his way further.

    And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further.

29. 29

    וַיִּפְצְרוּ־בוֹBut they constrained him,לֵאמֹרsaying,שְׁבָהAbideאִתָּנוּwith us:כִּיforעֶת־עֶרֶבthe eventideהִגִּיעַis come,וְנָטָהand is far spent.הַיּוֹםthe dayוַיָּבֹאAnd he went inהַבַּיְתָהto the houseלָשֶׁבֶתto tarryאִתָּם׃with them.

    But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them.

30. 30

    וַיְהִיAnd it came to pass,כַּאֲשֶׁרasהֵסֵבhe sat at meatעִמָּהֶםwith them,וַיִּקַּחhe tookאֶת־הַלָּחֶםbread,וַיְבָרֶךְand blessed it,וַיִּבְצַעand brake,וַיִּתֵּןand gaveלָהֶם׃to them.

    And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them.

31. 31

    וַתִּפָּקַחְנָהAnd were opened,עֵינֵיהֶםtheir eyesוַיַּכִּירֻהוּand they knew him;וְהוּאand heחָמַקvanishedעָבַרand passedמֵעֵינֵיהֶם׃out of their sight.

    And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.

32. 32

    וַיֹּאמְרוּAnd they saidאִישׁoneאֶל־רֵעֵהוּto another,הֲלֹאDid notבֹעֵרburningהָיָהwasלְבָבֵנוּour heartבְּקִרְבֵּנוּwithin us,בְּדַבְּרוֹwhile he talkedאֵלֵינוּwith usבַּדֶּרֶךְby the way,וַיִּפְתַּר־לָנוּand while he opened to usאֵת־הַכְּתוּבִים׃the scriptures?

    And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?

33. 33

    וַיָּקוּמוּAnd they rose upבַּשָּׁעָהtheהַהִיאsame hour,וַיָּשׁוּבוּand returnedיְרוּשָׁלָיִםto Jerusalem,וַיִּמְצְאוּand foundאֶת־עַשְׁתֵּי־הֶעָשָׂרthe elevenוְאֶת־אֲשֶׁרand them that wereאִתָּםwith them,וְהֵםand they wereנִקְהָלִיםgatheredיָחַד׃together,

    And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them,

34. 34

    וְאֹמְרִיםSaying,אָכֵןverilyקָםis risenהָאָדוֹןThe Lordמִן־הַמֵּתִיםindeed,וְנִרְאָהand hath appearedאֶל־שִׁמְעוֹן׃to Simon.

    Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon.

35. 35

    וַיְסַפְּרוּAnd they toldגַּם־הֵםalso,אֵת־אֲשֶׁרwhatקָרָםwas doneבַּדָּרֶךְin the way,וְאֵתand howאֲשֶׁרthatהִכִּירֻהוּhe was known of themבִּבְצִיעַתin breaking ofהַלָּחֶם׃bread.

    And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread.

36. 36

    עוֹדָםAnd as they thusמְדַבְּרִיםspakeכַּדְּבָרִיםthese wordsהָאֵלֶּהthese,וְיֵשׁוּעַJesusעַצְמוֹhimselfעָמַדstoodבְּתוֹכָםin the midst of them,וַיֹּאמֶרand saithאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,שָׁלוֹםPeace beלָכֶם׃unto you.

    And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.

37. 37

    וְהֵמָּהBut theyחַתּוּwere terrifiedוְנִבְעָתוּand affrighted,וַיַּחְשְׁבוּand supposedכִּי־רוּחַthat a spiritהֵםtheyרֹאִים׃had seen.

    But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.

38. 38

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,מַה־לָּכֶםWhyכִּיforתִבָּהֵלוּare you troubled?וְלָמָּהand whyתַעֲלֶינָהdo ariseמַחֲשָׁבוֹתthoughtsבִּלְבַבְכֶם׃in your hearts?

    And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?

39. 39

    רְאוּBeholdאֶת־יָדַיmy handsוְאֶת־רַגְלַיand my feet,כִּיthatאָנֹכִיIהוּאmyself:מַשְׁשׁוּנִיhandle me,וּרְאוּand see;כִּיforרוּחַa spiritאֵיןhathלוֹnotבָּשָׂרfleshוַעֲצָמוֹתand bones,כַּאֲשֶׁרasאַתֶּםyouרֹאִיםseeבִּי׃me have.

    Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.

40. 40

    וַיְהִיAndכַּאֲשֶׁרwhenדִּבֶּרhe had spokenאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםthe wordsהָאֵלֶּהthese,הֶרְאָהhe shewedאֹתָםthemאֵת־יָדָיוhis handsוְאֵתandרַגְלָיו׃his feet.

    And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet.

41. 41

    וְהֵםAnd while theyעוֹדyetלֹאnotהֶאֱמִינוּbelievedמִשִּׂמְחָהfor joy,וַיִּתְמָהוּand wondered,וַיֹּאמֶרhe saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,הֲיֵשׁ־לָכֶםHave youפֹּהhereאֹכֶל׃any meat?

    And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat?

42. 42

    וַיִּתְּנוּAnd they gaveלוֹhimחֲתִיכַתa piece ofדָּגa fishצָלוּיbroiled,וּמְעַטand ofצוּףa combדְּבָשׁ׃of honey.

    And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb.

43. 43

    וַיִּקַּחAnd he took it,וַיֹּאכַלand did eatלְעֵינֵיהֶם׃before them.

    And he took it, and did eat before them.

44. 44

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,אֵלֶּהTheseהֵםareהַדְּבָרִיםthe wordsאֲשֶׁרwhichדִּבַּרְתִּיI spakeאֲלֵיכֶםunto you,בְּעוֹדwhileהֱיוֹתִיI was yetעִמָּכֶםwith you,כִּיthatהִמָּלֵאmustיִמָּלֵאbe fulfilled,כׇּל־הַכָּתוּבall things which were writtenעָלַיconcerning meבְּתוֹרַתin the law ofמשֶׁהMoses,וּבַנְּבִיאִיםand in the prophets,וּבַתְּהִלִּים׃and in the psalms.

    And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.

45. 45

    אָזThenפָּתַחopened heאֶת־לִבָּםtheir understanding,לְהָבִיןthat they might understandאֶת־הַכְּתוּבִים׃the scriptures,

    Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,

46. 46

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,כֵּןThusכָּתוּבit is written,וְכֵןand thusנִגְזָרit behovedאֲשֶׁרthatיְעֻנֶּהshould sufferהַמָּשִׁיחַChristוְיָקוּםand to riseמִן־הַמֵּתִיםfrom the deadבַּיּוֹםthe day:הַשְּׁלִישִׁי׃third

    And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:

47. 47

    וַאֲשֶׁרAnd thatתִּקָּרֵאshould be preachedבִשְׁמוֹin his nameתְּשׁוּבָהrepentanceוּסְלִיחַתand remission ofהַחֲטָאִיםsinsבְּכׇל־הַגּוֹיִםamong all nations,הָחֵלbeginningמִירוּשָׁלָיִם׃at Jerusalem.

    And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

48. 48

    וְאַתֶּםAnd youעֵדֵיare witnesses ofהַדְּבָרִיםthings.הָאֵלֶּה׃these

    And ye are witnesses of these things.

49. 49

    וְהִנְנִיAnd, behold, Iשׁוֹלֵחַsendלָכֶםupon youאֵת־הַבְטָחַתthe promise ofאָבִיmy Father:וְאַתֶּםbut tarry youשְׁבוּabideבָּעִירin the city ofיְרוּשָׁלַיִםJerusalem,עַדuntilכִּי־תִלְבְּשׁוּyou be endued withעֹזpowerמִמָּרוֹם׃from on high.

    And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

50. 50

    וַיּוֹצִיאֵםAnd he led them outאֶל־מִחוּץoutלָעִירof the city,עַד־בֵּיתas far as toהִינִיBethany,וַיִּשָּׂאand he lifted upאֶת־יָדָיוhis hands,וַיְבָרֲכֵם׃and blessed them.

    And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.

51. 51

    וַיְהִיAnd it came to pass,בְּבָרֲכוֹwhile he blessedאֹתָםthem,וַיִּפָּרֵדhe was partedמֵעֲלֵיהֶםfrom them,וַיִּנָּשֵׂאand carried upהַשָּׁמָיְמָה׃into heaven.

    And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.

52. 52

    וְהֵםAnd theyהִשְׁתַּחֲווּ־לוֹworshiped him,וַיָּשׁוּבוּand returnedלִירוּשָׁלַיִםto Jerusalemבְּשִׂמְחָהwith joy:גְדוֹלָה׃great

    And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy:

53. 53

    וַיִּהְיוּAnd wereתָמִידcontinuallyבַּמִּקְדָּשׁin the temple,מְהַלֲלִיםpraisingוּמְבָרֲכִיםand blessingאֶת־הָאֱלֹהִיםGod.אָמֵן׃Amen.

    And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.
