1. 1

   וַיָּקׇםAnd arose,כׇּל־קְהָלָםthe whole multitude of themוַיּוֹלִיכֻהוּand led himאֶל־פִּילָטוֹס׃unto Pilate.

   And the whole multitude of them arose, and led him unto Pilate.

2. 2

   וַיָּחֵלּוּAnd they beganלְדַבֵּרto accuseעָלָיוhimשִׂטְנָהwith accusation,לֵאמֹרsaying,אֶת־זֶהthis fellowמָצָאנוּWe foundמֵסִיתpervertingאֶת־הָעָםthe nation,וּמֹנֵעַand forbiddingאוֹתוֹthemמִתֵּתto giveמַסtributeלְקֵיסַרto Caesar,בְּאׇמְרוֹsayingכִּיthatהוּאhe himselfמֶלֶךְis a king,הַמָּשִׁיחַ׃Christ

   And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Cæsar, saying that he himself is Christ a King.

   וַיִּשְׁאָלֵהוּAnd asked him,פִילָטוֹסPilateלֵאמֹרsaying,הַאַתָּהAre youמֶלֶךְthe King ofהַיְּהוּדִיםthe Jews?וַיַּעַןAnd he answeredוַיֹּאמֶרand saidאַתָּהYouאָמָרְתָּ׃sayest it.

   And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answered him and said, Thou sayest it.

   וַיֹּאמֶרThen saidפִּילָטוֹסPilateאֶל־רָאשֵׁיto the chiefהַכֹּהֲנִיםpriestsוְאֶל־הֲמוֹןand to the multitude ofהָעָםthe people,לֹא־מָצָאתִיI find noאַשְׁמָהfaultבָּאִישׁin man.הַזֶּה׃this

   Then said Pilate to the chief priests and to the people, I find no fault in this man.

   וְהֵםAnd theyהִתְאַמְּצוּwere the more fierce,לְדַבֵּרsaying,מַדִּיחַHe stirreth upהוּאhe,אֶת־הָעָםthe people,בְּלַמְּדוֹteachingבְּכׇל־יְהוּדָהthroughout all Jewry,הָחֵלbeginningמִן־הַגָּלִילfrom Galileeוְעַד־הֵנָּה׃to this place.

   And they were the more fierce, saying, He stirreth up the people, teaching throughout all Jewry, beginning from Galilee to this place.

   וַיְהִיAndכִּשְׁמֹעַwhen heard ofפִּילָטוֹסPilateאֶת־שֵׁםthe name ofהַגָּלִילGalilee,וַיִּשְׁאַלhe askedאִם־הוּאwhetherאִישׁthe manגְּלִילִי׃were a Galilaean.

   When Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked whether the man were a Galilæan.

7. 7

   וְכַאֲשֶׁרAnd as soon asיָדַעhe knewכִּי־מִמֶּמְשֶׁלֶתthat he belonged unto jurisdiction,הוֹרְדוֹסHerod'sהוּאhe was,שְׁלָחוֹhe sent himאֶל־הוֹרְדוֹסto Herod,אֲשֶׁרwhoהָיָהwasגַם־הוּאhimselfבִּירוּשָׁלַיִםat Jerusalemבַּיָּמִיםin days.הָאֵלֶּה׃those

   And as soon as he knew that he belonged unto Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who himself also was at Jerusalem at that time.

   וַיִּשְׂמַחAnd when wasהוֹרְדוֹסHerodעַד־מְאֹדexceeding glad:כִּרְאוֹתוֹsawאֶת־יֵשׁוּעַJesus,כִּיforמִיָּמִיםof daysרַבִּיםmanyהִתְאַוָּהhe was desirousלִרְאֹתto seeאֹתוֹhim,כִּי־שָׁמַעbecause he had heardאֶת־שׇׁמְעוֹmany things of him;וַיְקַוand he hopedלִרְאֹתto have seenאוֹתsome miracleאֲשֶׁרthatיַעֲשֶׂה׃done by him.

   And when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceeding glad: for he was desirous to see him of a long season, because he had heard many things of him; and he hoped to have seen some miracle done by him.

   וַיֶּרֶבThen he questionedלִשְׁאֹלin many wordsאוֹתוֹwith himוְהוּאbut heלֹא־הֵשִׁיבansweredאֹתוֹhimדָּבָר׃nothing.

   Then he questioned with him in many words; but he answered him nothing.

10. 10

    וַיַּעַמְדוּAnd stoodרָאשֵׁיthe chiefהַכֹּהֲנִיםpriestsוְהַסּוֹפְרִיםand scribesוַיִּתְחַזְּקוּand vehementlyלְדַבֵּרaccusedעָלָיוhimשִׂטְנָה׃with accusation.

    And the chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused him.

11. 11

    וַיִּבֶזAnd set at noughtאֹתוֹhim,הוֹרְדוֹסHerodהוּאheוְצִבְאוֹתָיוwith his men of war,וַיְהָתֶל־בּוֹand mocked him,וַיַּלְבֵּשׁand arrayedאוֹתוֹhim inבֶּגֶדa robe,זְהוֹרִיתgorgeousוַיִּשְׁלָחֵהוּand sent him againאֶל־פִּילָטוֹס׃to Pilate.

    And Herod with his men of war set him at nought, and mocked him, and arrayed him in a gorgeous robe, and sent him again to Pilate.

12. 12

    בַּיּוֹםon dayהַהוּאthe sameנַעֲשׂוּwere madeפִּילָטוֹסPilateוְהוֹרְדוֹסand Herodאֹהֲבִיםfriendsזֶהoneלָזֶהwith another:כִּיforלְפָנִיםbeforeאֵיבָהthey were at enmityבֵינֵיהֶם׃between themselves.

    And the same day Pilate and Herod were made friends together: for before they were at enmity between themselves.

13. 13

    וַיִּקְרָאAnd had called togetherפִילָטוֹסPilateאֶת־רָאשֵׁיthe chiefהַכֹּהֲנִיםpriestsוְאֶת־הַשָּׂרִיםand the rulersוְאֶת־הָעָם׃and the people,

    And Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people,

14. 14

    וַיֹּאמֶרSaidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,הֲבֵאתֶםYou have broughtלְפָנַיunto meאֶת־הָאִישׁman,הַזֶּהthisכְּמֵסִיתas one that pervertethאֶת־הָעָםthe people:וְהִנֵּהand, behold,אָנֹכִיI,חֲקַרְתִּיוhaving examined himלְעֵינֵיכֶםbefore you,וְלֹאand notמָצָאתִיhave foundבָּאִישׁin man,הַזֶּהthisכׇּל־אַשְׁמָהno faultמִן־הַדְּבָרִיםtouching those thingsאֲשֶׁרwhereofאַתֶּםyouטוֹעֲנִיםaccuseאֹתוֹ׃him:

    Said unto them, Ye have brought this man unto me, as one that perverteth the people: and, behold, I, having examined him before you, have found no fault in this man touching those things whereof ye accuse him:

15. 15

    וְגַם־הוֹרְדוֹסNo, nor yet Herod:לֹאno faultמָצָאfound he,כִּיforשָׁלַחְתִּיI sentאֶתְכֶםyouאֵלָיוto him;וְהִנֵּהand, lo,אֵין־חֵטְאnothing worthy ofמָוֶתdeathלָאִישׁis done untoהַזֶּה׃him.

    No, nor yet Herod: for I sent you to him; and, lo, nothing worthy of death is done unto him.

16. 16

    עַל־כֵּןthereforeאֲיַסְּרֶנּוּI will chastise him,וְאַתִּירֶנּוּ׃and release him.

    I will therefore chastise him, and release him.

17. 17

    וְלוֹForהָיָהof necessityלְהַתִּירhe must releaseלָהֶםunto themחָבוּשׁa prisonerאֶחָדoneבִּימֵיat the days ofהֶחָג׃the feast.

    (For of necessity he must release one unto them at the feast.)

18. 18

    וַיִּצְעֲקוּAnd they cried outכׇל־הֲמוֹנָםall at once,וַיֹּאמְרוּsaying,הָסֵרAway withאֶת־זֶהthis man,וְהַתֵּרand releaseלָנוּunto usאֵת־בַּר־אַבָּא׃Barabbas:

    And they cried out all at once, saying, Away with this man, and release unto us Barabbas:

19. 19

    וְהוּאWhoהָיָהwasאָסוּרcastבֵּיתintoהַכֶּלֶאprisonעַל־דְּבַרforמֶרֶדa seditionאֲשֶׁר־נִהְיָהmadeבָעִירin the city,וְעַל־רָצַח׃and for murder.

    (Who for a certain sedition made in the city, and for murder, was cast into prison.)

20. 20

    וַיֹּסֶףtherefore againפִּילָטוֹסPilate,וַיְדַבֵּרspakeאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,כִּיbecauseחָפֵץwillingלְהַתִּירto releaseאֶת־יֵשׁוּעַ׃Jesus.

    Pilate therefore, willing to release Jesus, spake again to them.

21. 21

    וְהֵמָּהBut theyקָרְאוּcried,לֵאמֹרsaying,הַצְלֵבCrucifyאוֹתוֹhim,הַצְלֵב׃crucify him.

    But they cried, saying, Crucify him, crucify him.

22. 22

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto themפַּעַםaשְׁלִישִׁיתthird time,מֶהWhy,עָשָׂהhath he done?זֶהwhat evilרָעָהof evil?כׇּל־מִשְׁפַּטno cause ofמָוֶתdeathלֹא־מָצָאתִיhave I foundבוֹin him:עַל־כֵּןthereforeאֲיַסְּרֶנּוּI will chastise him,וְאַתִּירֶנּוּ׃and let him go.

    And he said unto them the third time, Why, what evil hath he done? I have found no cause of death in him: I will therefore chastise him, and let him go.

23. 23

    וַיִּפְצְרוּAnd they were instantבוֹupon himבְּקוֹלwith voices,גָּדוֹלloudוַיְבַקְשׁוּrequiringאֲשֶׁרthatיִצָּלֵבhe might be crucified.וַיֶּחֱזַקAnd prevailedקוֹלָםtheir voicesוְקוֹלand the voice ofרָאשֵׁיthe chiefהַכֹּהֲנִים׃priests

    And they were instant with loud voices, requiring that he might be crucified. And the voices of them and of the chief priests prevailed.

24. 24

    וַיִּגְזֹרAnd gave sentenceפִּילָטוֹסPilateאֲשֶׁרthatתֵּעָשֶׂהit should beבַּקָּשָׁתָם׃as they required.

    And Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they required.

25. 25

    וַיַּתֵּרAnd he releasedלָהֶםunto themאֶת־הַנָּתוּןhim thatבְּבֵיתin prisonהָאֲסוּרִיםwas castעַל־דְּבָר־מֶרֶדfor seditionוָרֶצַחand murder,אֵת־אֲשֶׁרwhomשָׁאָלוּthey had desired;וְאֶת־יֵשׁוּעַbut Jesusנָתַןhe deliveredלָהֶםunto themלַעֲשׂוֹתto doבּוֹwith himכִּרְצוֹנָם׃according to their will.

    And he released unto them him that for sedition and murder was cast into prison, whom they had desired; but he delivered Jesus to their will.

26. 26

    וְכַאֲשֶׁרAnd asהוֹלִיכֻהוּthey led him awayמִשָּׁםfrom thence,וַיַּחֲזִיקוּthey laid hold uponבְּאִישׁa manאֶחָדoneהַבָּאcomingמִן־הַשָּׂדֶהout of the country,וּשְׁמוֹnamedשִׁמְעוֹןSimon,אִישׁa man ofקוּרִינִיCyrene,וַיָּשִׂימוּand they laidעָלָיוupon himאֶת־הַצְּלוּבthe cross,לָשֵׂאתthat he might bear itאַחֲרֵיafterיֵשׁוּעַ׃Jesus.

    And as they led him away, they laid hold upon one Simon, a Cyrenian, coming out of the country, and on him they laid the cross, that he might bear it after Jesus.

27. 27

    וַיֵּלְכוּAnd there followedאַחֲרָיוhimהֲמוֹןa great company ofעַם־רָבpeople,וַהֲמוֹןand ofנָשִׁיםwomen,וְהֵנָּהwhich alsoסֹפְדוֹתbewailedוּמְקוֹנֲנוֹתand lamentedעָלָיו׃him.

    And there followed him a great company of people, and of women, which also bewailed and lamented him.

28. 28

    וַיִּפֶןBut turningיֵשׁוּעַJesusוַיֹּאמֶרsaidאֲלֵיהֶןunto them,בְּנוֹתDaughters ofיְרוּשָׁלַיִםJerusalem,אַל־תִּבְכֶּינָהweep notעָלַיfor me,כִּי־עַל־נַפְשְׁכֶןbut for yourselvesבְּכֶינָהweep,וְעַל־בְּנֵיכֶן׃and for your children.

    But Jesus turning unto them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children.

29. 29

    כִּיFor,הִנֵּהbehold,יָמִיםthe daysבָּאִיםare coming,וְאָמְרוּin the which they shall say,אַשְׁרֵיBlessed areהָעֲקָרוֹתthe barren,וְאַשְׁרֵיandהַמֵּעַיִםthe wombsאֲשֶׁרthatלֹאneverיָלָדוּbare,וְאַשְׁרֵיandהַשָּׁדַיִםthe papsאֲשֶׁרwhichלֹאneverהֵינִיקוּ׃gave suck.

    For, behold, the days are coming, in the which they shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the paps which never gave suck.

30. 30

    אָזThenיֹאמְרוּshall they begin to sayאֶל־הֶהָרִיםto the mountains,נִפְלוּFallעָלֵינוּon us;וְאֶל־הַגְּבָעוֹתand to the hills,כַּסּוּנוּ׃Cover us.

    Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us.

31. 31

    כִּיForאִם־כָּכָהif they doיַעֲשׂוּthusבָּעֵץin a tree,הַלָּחgreenמַה־יֵּעָשֶׂהwhat shall be doneבַּיָּבֵשׁ׃in the dry?

    For if they do these things in a green tree, what shall be done in the dry?

32. 32

    וְגַם־שְׁנַיִםAnd there were also twoאֲחֵרִיםother,אַנְשֵׁיmen ofרֶשַׁעwickedness,מוּצָאִיםledלַמָּוֶתto be put to deathאִתּוֹ׃with him.

    And there were also two other, malefactors, led with him to be put to death.

33. 33

    וַיְהִיAndכַּאֲשֶׁרwhenבָּאוּthey were comeאֶל־הַמָּקוֹםto the place,הַנִּקְרָאwhich is calledגֻּלְגָּלְתָּאCalvary,וַיִּצְלְבוּthey crucifiedאֹתוֹhimשָׁםthere,וְאֶת־אַנְשֵׁיand the men ofהָרֶשַׁעwickedness,אֶחָדoneמִימִינוֹon the right hand,וְאֶחָדand the otherמִשְּׂמֹאלוֹ׃on the left.

    And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left.

34. 34

    וַיֹּאמֶרThen saidיֵשׁוּעַJesus,אָבִיFather,סְלַחforgiveלָהֶםthem;כִּיforאֵינָםnotיֹדְעִיםthey knowמָהwhatהֵםtheyעֹשִׂיםdo.וַיְחַלְּקוּAnd they partedבְגָדָיוhis raimentלָהֶםamong them,וַיַּפִּילוּand castגוֹרָל׃lots.

    Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.

35. 35

    וְהָעָםAnd the peopleעֹמֵדstoodוְרֹאֶהbeholding.וַיַּלְעִיגוּ־לוֹAnd derided him,הַשָּׂרִיםthe rulers alsoלֵאמֹרsaying,אֶת־אֲחֵרִיםothers;הוֹשִׁיעַHe savedיוֹשַׁע־נָאlet him saveנַפְשׁוֹhimself,אִם־הוּאif he beהַמָּשִׁיחַChrist,בְּחִירthe chosen ofהָאֱלֹהִים׃God.

    And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them derided him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if he be Christ, the chosen of God.

36. 36

    וַיְהָתֵלּוּAnd mockedבוֹhim,אַנְשֵׁיthe men ofהַצָּבָאthe army also,וַיִּגְּשׁוּcoming to him,וַיָּבִיאוּand offeringלוֹhimחֹמֶץ׃vinegar,

    And the soldiers also mocked him, coming to him, and offering him vinegar,

37. 37

    וַיֹּאמְרוּAnd saying,אִם־אַתָּהIf youהוּאbeמֶלֶךְthe king ofהַיְּהוּדִיםthe Jews,הוֹשַׁעsaveנַפְשֶׁךָ׃thyself.

    And saying, If thou be the king of the Jews, save thyself.

38. 38

    וְגַם־מִכְתָּבAnd a superscription alsoהָיָהwasמִמַּעַלwritten overלוֹhimבִּכְתָבin letters ofיְוָנִיGreek,וְרוֹמִיand Latin,וְעִבְרִיand Hebrew,זֶהTHISהוּאISמֶלֶךְTHE KING OFהַיְּהוּדִים׃THE JEWS.

    And a superscription also was written over him in letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

39. 39

    וְאֶחָדAnd oneמֵאַנְשֵׁיof the men ofהָרֶשַׁעwickednessהַתְּלוּיִםwhich were hangedגִּדֵּףrailed onאֹתוֹhim,לֵאמֹרsaying,הֲלֹאIfאַתָּהyou areהַמָּשִׁיחַChrist,הוֹשַׁעsaveעַצְמְךָthyselfוְאֹתָנוּ׃and us.

    And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.

40. 40

    וַיַּעַןBut answeringהָאַחֵרthe otherוַיִּגְעַר־בּוֹrebuked him,לֵאמֹרsaying,הֲלֹאDost notתִירָאyou fearאֶת־הָאֱלֹהִיםGod,כִּיseeingעָנְשׁוֹthe same condemnationעָנְשֶׁךָ׃is upon you?

    But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?

41. 41

    וְהִנֵּהAndאֲנַחְנוּweכַּמִּשְׁפָּטindeed justly;כִּיforלָקַחְנוּwe receiveכִּגְמוּלthe due reward ofיָדֵינוּour deeds:וְהָאִישׁbut manהַזֶּהthisלֹא־עָשָׂהhath doneמְאוּמָהnothingרָע׃amiss.

    And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.

42. 42

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saidאֶל־יֵשׁוּעַunto Jesus,זׇכְרֵנִי־נָאremember meאֲדֹנִיLord,בְּבֹאֲךָwhen you comeבְּמַלְכוּתֶךָ׃into your kingdom.

    And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.

43. 43

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd saidיֵשׁוּעַJesusאֵלָיוunto him,אָמֵןVerilyאֹמֵרsayאֲנִיIלְךָunto you,כִּיthatהַיּוֹםTo dayתִּהְיֶהshall you beעִמָּדִיwith meבְּגַן־עֵדֶן׃in paradise.

    And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

44. 44

    וַיְהִיAnd it wasכַּשָּׁעָהabout hour,הַשִּׁשִּׁיתthe sixthוְהִנֵּה־חֹשֶׁךְand there was darknessעַל־כׇּל־הָאָרֶץover all the earthעַדuntilהַשָּׁעָהhour.הַתְּשִׁיעִית׃the ninth

    And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour.

45. 45

    וַיֶּחְשַׁךְAnd was darkened,הַשָּׁמֶשׁthe sunוּפָרֹכֶתand the veil ofהַהֵיכׇלthe templeנִקְרְעָהwas rentלִשְׁנַיִםinto twoקְרָעִים׃pieces.

    And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst.

46. 46

    וַיִּקְרָאAnd criedיֵשׁוּעַJesusבְּקוֹלwith voice,גָּדוֹלloudוַיֹּאמֶרhe said,אָבִיFather,בְּיָדְךָinto your handsאַפְקִידI commendרוּחִיmy spirit:וַיְהִיandכְּכַלּוֹתוֹhavingלְדַבֵּרsaidוַיִּפַּחthus, he gave upנַפְשׁוֹ׃the ghost.

    And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.

47. 47

    וַיַּרְאAnd when sawשַׂר־הַמֵּאָהthe centurionאֵת־אֲשֶׁרwhatנִהְיָתָהwas done,וַיִּתֵּןhe gaveכָּבוֹדgloryלֵאלֹהִיםto God,וַיֹּאמַרsaying,אָכֵןCertainlyהָאִישׁmanהַזֶּהthisצַדִּיקa righteousהָיָה׃was.

    Now when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this was a righteous man.

48. 48

    וְכׇל־הֲמוֹןAnd allהָעָםthe peopleאֲשֶׁרthatהִתְאַסְּפוּcame togetherלִרְאוֹתto seeהַמַּרְאֶהthe sightהַזֶּהthis,בְּהַבִּיטָםbeholdingאֶל־כׇּל־אֲשֶׁרthe things whichנַעֲשָׂהwere done,תּוֹפֲפוּsmoteעַל־לִבָּםtheir breasts,וַיָּשׁוּבוּ׃and returned.

    And all the people that came together to that sight, beholding the things which were done, smote their breasts, and returned.

49. 49

    וְכׇל־מְיֻדָּעָיוAnd all his acquaintance,עָמְדוּstoodמֵרָחוֹקafar off,וְגַם־הַנָּשִׁיםand the womenאֲשֶׁרthatהָלְכוּwentאִתּוֹwith himמִן־הַגָּלִילfrom Galilee,וְעֵינֵיהֶןtheir eyesרֹאוֹתbeholdingאֶת־אֵלֶּה׃these things.

    And all his acquaintance, and the women that followed him from Galilee, stood afar off, beholding these things.

50. 50

    וְהִנֵּה־אִישׁAnd, behold, there was a manוּשְׁמוֹnamedיוֹסֵףJoseph,וְהוּאand he wasמִן־הַיֹּעֲצִיםa counselor;אִישׁa manטוֹבgoodוְצַדִּיק׃and a just:

    And, behold, there was a man named Joseph, a counsellor; and he was a good man, and a just:

51. 51

    אֲשֶׁרThe sameלֹא־נָטָהhad not consentedאַחֲרֵיtoעֲצָתָםthe counselוּפׇעֳלָםand deed of them;מִן־הָרָמָתַיִםhe was of Arimathaea,עִירa city ofהַיְּהוּדִיםthe Jews:וְהוּאwho also himselfמְחַכֶּהwaitedלְמַלְכוּתfor the kingdom ofהָאֱלֹהִים׃God.

    (The same had not consented to the counsel and deed of them;) he was of Arimathæa, a city of the Jews: who also himself waited for the kingdom of God.

52. 52

    וַיִּגַּשׁThis man wentאֶל־פִּילָטוֹסunto Pilate,וַיִּשְׁאַלand beggedמִמֶּנּוּof himאֵת־גְּוִיַּתthe body ofיֵשׁוּעַ׃Jesus.

    This man went unto Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus.

53. 53

    וַיּוֹרֶדAnd he took downאֹתָהּit,וַיִּכְרְכֶהָand wrapped itבִסְדִינִיםin linen,וַיְשִׂימֶהָand laid itבְקֶבֶרin a sepulchreחָצוּבthat was hewnבַּסָּלַעin stone,אֲשֶׁרwhereinעֲדֶןyetלֹאneverהוּשַׂם־בּוֹwas laid.אָדָם׃man

    And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulchre that was hewn in stone, wherein never man before was laid.

54. 54

    וְהַיּוֹםAnd the dayעֶרֶבthe eve ofשַׁבָּתthe sabbath,וְהַשַּׁבָּתand the sabbathהִגִּיעָה׃drew on.

    And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath drew on.

55. 55

    וּמִן־הַנָּשִׁיםAnd the women also,אֲשֶׁרwhichבָּאוּcameאִתּוֹwith himמִן־הַגָּלִילfrom Galilee,הֹלְכוֹתfollowedאַחֲרָיוafter him,וַתִּרְאֶינָהand beheldאֶת־הַקֶּבֶרthe sepulchre,וְאֶתandאֲשֶׁרhowהוּשַׂם־בּוֹwas laid.גְּוִיָּתוֹ׃his body

    And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulchre, and how his body was laid.

56. 56

    וַתָּשֹׁבְנָהAnd they returned,וַתָּכֵנָּהand preparedסַמִּיםspicesוּמִרְקָחוֹתand ointments;וּבַשַּׁבָּתand on the sabbath dayשָׁבְתוּthey restedכַמִּצְוָה׃according to the commandment.

    And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.
