1. 1

   וַיִּקְרַבNow drew nighחַגthe feast ofהַמַּצּוֹתunleavened bread,הוּאwhich isחַגthe feast ofהַפָּסַח׃the passover.

   Now the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, which is called the Passover.

2. 2

   וְרָאשֵׁיAnd the chiefהַכֹּהֲנִיםpriestsוְהַסּוֹפְרִיםand scribesמְבַקְשִׁיםsoughtאֵיךְhowיַהַרְגֻהוּthey might kill him;כִּיforיָרְאוּthey fearedמִפְּנֵיbecause ofהָעָם׃the people.

   And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill him; for they feared the people.

3. 3

   וְהַשָּׂטָןThen Satanנִכְנַסenteredבִּיהוּדָהinto Judasהַנִּקְרָאsurnamedאִישׁ־קְרִיּוֹתIscariot,וְהוּאbeingאֶחָדoneמִשְּׁנֵים־הֶעָשָׂר׃of the twelve.

   Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.

4. 4

   וַיֵּלֶךְAnd he went his way,וַיִּוָּעַץand communedעִם־רָאשֵׁיwith the chiefהַכֹּהֲנִיםpriestsוְהַשָּׂרִיםand captains,אֵיךְhowיִמְסְרֶנּוּhe might betray himבְּיָדָם׃unto them.

   And he went his way, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray him unto them.

   וַיִּשְׂמָחוּAnd they were glad,וַיֵּאֹתוּand covenantedלָתֶת־לוֹto give himכָסֶף׃money.

   And they were glad, and covenanted to give him money.

6. 6

   וַיַּבְטַחAnd he promisedאֹתָםthem,וַיְבַקֵּשׁand soughtתּוֹאֲנָהopportunityלְמָסְרוֹto betray himאֲלֵיהֶםunto themבְּסֵתֶרin secret,וְלֹא־בִפְנֵיand not beforeהֶהָמוֹן׃the multitude.

   And he promised, and sought opportunity to betray him unto them in the absence of the multitude.

   וַיָּבֹאThen cameיוֹםthe day ofהַמַּצּוֹתunleavened bread,אֲשֶׁרwhenיִזָּבַח־בּוֹmust be killed.הַפָּסַח׃the passover

   Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed.

8. 8

   וַיִּשְׁלַחAnd he sentאֶת־פֶּטְרוֹסPeterוְאֶת־יוֹחָנָןand John,לֵאמֹרsaying,לְכוּGoוְהָכִינוּand prepareלָנוּusאֶת־הַפֶּסַחthe passover,וְנֹאכֵלָה׃that we may eat.

   And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat.

9. 9

   וַיֹּאמְרוּAnd they saidאֵלָיוunto him,אֵיפֹהWhereתַחְפֹּץwill youוְנָכִיןthat we prepareאוֹתוֹ׃it?

   And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare?

10. 10

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,הִנֵּהBehold,אַתֶּםyouבָּאִיםare enteredהָעִירָהinto the city,וּפָגַעthere shall meetאֶתְכֶםyouאִישׁa man,נֹשֵׂאbearingצַפַּחַתa pitcher ofמָיִםwater;לְכוּfollowאַחֲרָיוhimאֶל־הַבָּיִתinto the houseאֲשֶׁרwhereיָבוֹאhe enterethבוֹ׃in.

    And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he entereth in.

11. 11

    וַאֲמַרְתֶּםAnd you shall sayאֶל־בַּעַלunto the goodman ofהַבָּיִתthe house,כֹּהThusאָמַר־לְךָsaith unto you,הָרַבThe MasterאַיֵּהWhere isהַמָּלוֹןthe guestchamber,אֲשֶׁרwhereאֹכְלָה־שָּׁםI shall eat thereאֶת־הַפֶּסַחthe passoverעִם־תַּלְמִידָי׃with my disciples?

    And ye shall say unto the goodman of the house, The Master saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?

12. 12

    וְהוּאAnd heיַרְאֶהshall shewאֶתְכֶםyouעֲלִיָּהupper roomגְדוֹלָהa largeמֻצָּעָהfurnished:שָׁםthereתָּכִינוּ׃make ready.

    And he shall shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready.

13. 13

    וַיֵּלְכוּAnd they went,וַיִּמְצְאוּand foundכַּאֲשֶׁרasדִּבֶּרhe had saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them:וַיָּכִינוּand they made readyאֶת־הַפָּסַח׃the passover.

    And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.

14. 14

    וַיְהִיAndכַּאֲשֶׁרwhenהִגִּיעָהwas come,הַשָּׁעָהthe hourוַיָּסֶבhe sat down,הוּאhe,וּשְׁנֵים־עָשָׂרand the twelveהַשְּׁלִיחִיםapostlesאִתּוֹ׃with him.

    And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.

15. 15

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,נִכְסֹףWith desireנִכְסַפְתִּיI have desiredלֶאֱכֹלto eatאִתְּכֶםwith youאֶת־הַפֶּסַחpassoverהַזֶּהthisלִפְנֵיbeforeעֻנּוֹתִי׃I suffer:

    And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer:

16. 16

    כִּי־אֹמֵרFor sayאֲנִיIלָכֶםunto you,לֹאnotאֹכַלI will eatאוֹתוֹthereof,עוֹדany moreעַדuntilכִּי־יִמָּלֵאit be fulfilledבְּמַלְכוּתin the kingdom ofהָאֱלֹהִים׃God.

    For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.

17. 17

    וַיִּקַּחAnd he tookאֶת־הַכּוֹסthe cup,וַיְבָרֵךְand gave thanks,וַיֹּאמֶרand said,קְחוּTakeאֹתָהּthis,וַחֲלֹקוּ׃and divide it among yourselves:

    And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves:

18. 18

    כִּי־אֹמֵרFor sayאֲנִיIלָכֶםunto you,שָׁתֹהsurelyלֹאI will notאֶשְׁתֶּהdrinkמֵעַתָּהfrom henceforthמִפְּרִיof the fruit ofהַגָּפֶןthe vine,עַדuntilכִּי־תָבוֹאshall come.מַלְכוּתthe kingdom ofהָאֱלֹהִים׃God

    For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.

19. 19

    וַיִּקַּחAnd he tookאֶת־הַלֶּחֶםbread,וַיְבָרֶךְand gave thanks,וַיִּבְצַעand brake it,וַיִּתֵּןand gaveלָהֶםunto them,וַיֹּאמַרsaying,זֶהThis isגוּפִיmy bodyהַנִּתָּןwhich is givenבַּעַדְכֶםfor you:זֹאתthisעֲשׂוּdoלְזִכְרִי׃in remembrance of me.

    And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.

20. 20

    וְכֵןLikewiseגַּם־אֶת־הַכּוֹסalso the cupאַחַרafterהַסְּעוּדָהsupper,לֵאמֹרsaying,זוֹThisהַכּוֹסcupהִיאisהַבְּרִיתthe testamentהַחֲדָשָׁהnewבְּדָמִיin my blood,הַנִּשְׁפָּךְwhich is shedבַּעַדְכֶם׃for you.

    Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.

21. 21

    אַךְBut,הִנֵּהbehold,יַד־הַמֹּסֵרthe hand of him that betrayethאוֹתִיmeאִתִּיis with meעַל־הַשֻּׁלְחָן׃on the table.

    But, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table.

22. 22

    כִּיAndהֵןtrulyבֶּן־הָאָדָםthe Son of manהֹלֵךְgoeth,כַּאֲשֶׁרasנֶחֱרָץit was determinedעָלָיוof him:אֲבָלbutאוֹיwoeלָאִישׁunto manהַהוּאthatאֲשֶׁרby whomעַל־יָדוֹby his handיִמָּסַר׃he is betrayed!

    And truly the Son of man goeth, as it was determined: but woe unto that man by whom he is betrayed!

23. 23

    וְהֵםAnd theyהֵחֵלּוּbeganלַחֲקֹרto inquireאִישׁamongאֶת־רֵעֵהוּthemselves,מִי־הוּאwhichזֶהof themמֵהֶםof themאֲשֶׁרit was thatיַעֲשֶׂה־זֹּאת׃should do this thing.

    And they began to inquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing.

24. 24

    וְגַם־מְרִיבָהAnd also a strifeהָיְתָהthere wasבֵינֵיהֶםamong them,מִיwhich of themיֵחָשֵׁבshould be accountedהַגָּדוֹלthe greatestבָּהֶם׃among them.

    And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest.

25. 25

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,מַלְכֵיThe kings ofהַגּוֹיִםthe Gentilesרֹדִיםexercise lordshipבָּהֶםover them;וְשַׁלִּיטֵיהֶםand they that exercise authority upon themעֹשֵׂיdoers ofחֶסֶדkindnessיִקָּרֵאare they calledלָהֶם׃unto them.

    And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors.

26. 26

    וְאַתֶּםBut youלֹא־כֵןshall not be so:כִּיbutהַגָּדוֹלhe that is greatestבָּכֶםamong you,יִהְיֶהlet him beכַצָּעִירas the younger;וְהַמַּנְהִיגand he that is chief,כַּמְשָׁרֵת׃as he that doth serve.

    But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.

27. 27

    כִּיForמִיwhetherהַגָּדוֹלis greater,הַמֵּסֵבhe that sitteth at meat,אוֹorהַמְשָׁרֵתhe that serveth?הֲלֹאis notהַמֵּסֵבhe that sitteth at meat?וַאֲנִיbut Iהִנְנִיamבְתוֹכֲכֶםamong youכְּמוֹasהַמְשָׁרֵת׃he that serveth.

    For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth.

28. 28

    וְאַתֶּםYouהֵםare theyהָעֹמְדִיםwhich have continuedעִמִּיwith meעַד־עַתָּהcontinuallyבְּנִסְיוֹנֹתָי׃in my temptations.

    Ye are they which have continued with me in my temptations.

29. 29

    לָכֵןAndאֲנִיIמַנְחִילappointאֶתְכֶםunto youהַמַּלְכוּתa kingdom,כַּאֲשֶׁרasהִנְחִילַנִיhath appointed unto me;אָבִי׃my Father

    And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me;

30. 30

    לְמַעַןThatתֹּאכְלוּyou may eatוְתִשְׁתּוּand drinkעַל־שֻׁלְחָנִיat my tableבְּמַלְכוּתִיin my kingdom,וִישַׁבְתֶּםand sitעַל־כִּסְאוֹתon thronesלִשְׁפֹּטjudgingאֶת־שְׁנֵים־עָשָׂרthe twelveשִׁבְטֵיtribes ofיִשְׂרָאֵל׃Israel.

    That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

31. 31

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd said,הָאָדוֹןthe LordשִׁמְעוֹןSimon,שִׁמְעוֹןSimon,הִנֵּהbehold,שָׁאַלhath desiredלוֹto have you,הַשָּׂטָןSatanלִזְרוֹתthat he may siftאֶתְכֶםyouכַּחִטִּים׃as wheat:

    And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:

32. 32

    וַאֲנִיBut Iהִתְפַּלַּלְתִּיhave prayedבַעַדְךָfor you,אֲשֶׁרthatלֹא־תִכְלֶהnot fail:אֱמוּנָתֶךְyour faithוְאַתָּהand when youכַּאֲשֶׁרwhenתָּשׁוּבart convertedבִּתְשׁוּבָהin repentance,חַזֵּקstrengthenאֶת־אָחֶיךָ׃your brethren.

    But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.

33. 33

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saidאֵלָיוunto him,אֲדֹנִיLord,הִנְנִיBehold I amנָכוֹןreadyלָלֶכֶתto goאִתְּךָwith you,גַּםbothלְבֵיתinto the house ofהָאֲסוּרִיםbonds,גַּםandלַמָּוֶת׃to death.

    And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death.

34. 34

    וַיֹּאמַרAnd he said,אֲנִיIאֹמֵרtellלְךָyou,פֶּטְרוֹסPeter,לֹא־יִקְרָאshall not crowתַרְנְגֹלthe cockהַיּוֹםthis day,עַדbeforeכִּי־כִּחַשְׁתָּthat you shall thrice denyבִּיmeשָׁלשׁthreeפְּעָמִיםtimesלֵאמֹרsayingלֹאnotיְדַעְתִּיו׃that you know me.

    And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.

35. 35

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,כַּאֲשֶׁרWhenשָׁלַחְתִּיI sentאֶתְכֶםyouבְּלִי־כִיסwithout purse,וְתַרְמִילand scrip,וּנְעָלִיםand shoes,הַחֲסַרְתֶּםlacked youדָּבָרany thing?וַיֹּאמְרוּAnd they said,לֹאWe lackedחָסַרְנוּnotכֹּל׃anything.

    And he said unto them, When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing.

36. 36

    וַיֹּאמֶרThen said heאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,אָכֵןButעַתָּהnow,אֲשֶׁר־לוֹhe that hathכִיסa purse,יִשָּׂאֵהוּlet him take it,וְכֵןand likewiseגַּם־אֶת־הַתַּרְמִילhis scrip:וַאֲשֶׁרand he thatאֵין־לוֹhath none,הוּאhe,יִמְכֹּרlet him sellאֶת־בִּגְדוֹhis garment,וְיִקְנֶהand buyחָרֶב׃a sword.

    Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.

37. 37

    כִּי־אֹמֵרFor sayאֲנִיIלָכֶםunto you,שֶׁצָּרִיךְthatעוֹדyetשֶׁיִּמָּלֵאmust be accomplishedבִיin me,הַכָּתוּבthat is writtenהַזֶּהthis,וְאֶת־פּשְׁעִיםAnd with the transgressorsנִמְנָהhe was reckoned:כִּיforגַם־הַכָּתוּבthe thingsעָלַיconcerning meבָּאhaveעַד־קִצּוֹ׃an end.

    For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things concerning me have an end.

38. 38

    וַיֹּאמְרוּAnd they said,אֲדֹנֵינוּLord,הִנֵּה־פֹהbehold, here areשְׁתֵּיtwoחֲרָבוֹתswords.וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,דָּי׃It is enough.

    And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough.

39. 39

    וַיֵּצֵאAnd he came out,וַיֵּלֶךְand went,כְּיוֹםas he was wont,בְּיוֹםday by day,אֶל־הַרto the mount ofהַזֵּיתִיםOlives;וַיֵּלְכוּand followedאַחֲרָיוhimגַּם־תַּלְמִידָיו׃his disciples also.

    And he came out, and went, as he was wont, to the mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him.

40. 40

    וַיָּבֹאAnd when he wasאֶל־הַמָּקוֹםat the place,וַיֹּאמֶרhe saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,הִתְפַּלֲלוּPrayשֶׁלּאlestתָבֹאוּyou enterלִידֵיintoנִסָּיוֹן׃temptation.

    And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation.

41. 41

    וְהוּאAnd heנִפְרַדwas withdrawnמֵהֶםfrom themהַרְחֵקaboutכִּקְלֹעַa cast ofאָבֶןa stone,וַיִּכְרַעand kneeledעַל־בִּרְכָּיוupon his knees,וַיִּתְפַּלֵּלand prayed,לֵאמֹר׃saying,

    And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,

42. 42

    אָבִיFather,אִם־תִּרְצֶהif you be willing,לְהַעֲבִירremoveמֵעָלַיfrom me:אֶת־הַכּוֹסcupהַזֹּאתthisאַךְneverthelessאַל־יְהִיnotכִרְצוֹנִיmy will,כִּיbutאִם־כִּרְצוֹנֶךָ׃yours, be done.

    Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.

43. 43

    וַיֵּרָאAnd there appearedאֵלָיוunto himמַלְאָךְan angelמִן־הַשָּׁמָיִםfrom heaven,וַיְחַזְּקֵהוּ׃strengthening him.

    And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.

44. 44

    וְחֶבְלֵי־מָוֶתAnd being in an agonyבָּאוּcameעָלָיוupon him,וַיּוֹסֶףhe continuedלְהִתְפַּלֵּלto prayבְּחׇזְקָהmore earnestly:וַתְּהִיand wasזֵעָתוֹhis sweatכְּנִטְפֵיas it were great drops ofדָםbloodיֹרְדִיםfalling downלָאָרֶץ׃to the ground.

    And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

45. 45

    וַיָּקׇםAnd when he rose upמֵהִתְפַּלֵּלfrom prayer,וַיָּבֹאand was comeאֶל־הַתַּלְמִידִיםto his disciples,וַיַּרְאhe found themוְהִנָּםbeholdיְשֵׁנִיםsleepingמִיָּגוֹן׃for sorrow,

    And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow,

46. 46

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,לָמָּהWhyתִישָׁנוּsleep you?קוּמוּriseוְהִתְפַּלֲלוּand pray,שֶׁלּאlestתָבֹאוּyou enterלִידֵיintoנִסָּיוֹן׃temptation.

    And said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.

47. 47

    עוֹדֶנּוּAnd while he yetמְדַבֵּרspake,וְהִנֵּהbeholdהֲמוֹןa multitudeעָםof people,וְאֶחָדand oneמִשְּׁנֵים־הֶעָשָׂרof the twelve,הַנִּקְרָאcalledיְהוּדָהJudas,הֹלֵךְwentלִפְנֵיהֶםbefore them,וַיִּקְרַבand drew nearאֶל־יֵשׁוּעַunto Jesusלִנְשׇׁק־לוֹ׃to kiss him.

    And while he yet spake, behold a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them, and drew near unto Jesus to kiss him.

48. 48

    וַיֹּאמֶרBut saidאֵלָיוunto him,יֵשׁוּעַJesusיְהוּדָהJudas,הֲבִנְשִׁיקָהwith a kiss?אַתָּהyouמוֹסֵרbetrayestאֶת־בֶּן־הָאָדָם׃the Son of man

    But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?

49. 49

    וְהָאֲנָשִׁיםWhen theyאֲשֶׁרwhichאִתּוֹwere with himרָאוּsawאֵת־אֲשֶׁרwhatיִהְיֶהwould follow,וַיֹּאמְרוּthey saidאֵלָיוunto him,אֲדֹנֵינוּLord,הֲנַכֶּהshall we smiteבֶחָרֶב׃with the sword?

    When they which were about him saw what would follow, they said unto him, Lord, shall we smite with the sword?

50. 50

    וַיַּךְAnd smoteאֶחָדoneמֵהֶםof themאֶת־עֶבֶדthe servant ofהַכֹּהֵןthe priest,הַגָּדוֹלhighוַיְקַצֵּץand cut offאֶת־אׇזְנוֹhis ear.הַיְמָנִית׃right

    And one of them smote the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear.

51. 51

    וַיַּעַןAnd answeredיֵשׁוּעַJesusוַיֹּאמֶרand said,רַבSuffer youעַתָּהthus far.הַרְפּוּlet be.וַיִּגַּעAnd he touchedבְּאׇזְנוֹhis ear,וַיִּרְפָּאֵהוּ׃and healed him.

    And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him.

52. 52

    וַיֹּאמֶרThen saidיֵשׁוּעַJesusאֶלuntoרָאשֵׁיthe chiefהַכֹּהֲנִיםpriests,וְשָׂרֵיand captains ofהַמִּקְדָּשׁthe temple,וְהַזְּקֵנִיםand the elders,אֲשֶׁרwhichבָּאוּwere comeעָלָיוto him,לֵאמֹרsaying,כְּצֵאתasעַל־פָּרִיץagainst a thief,יְצָאתֶםare you come outעָלַיagainst meבַּחֲרָבוֹתwith swordsוּבְמַקְלוֹת׃and staves?

    Then Jesus said unto the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and the elders, which were come to him, Be ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and staves?

53. 53

    וְאָנֹכִיWhen Iהָיִיתִיwasעִמָּכֶםwith youבַּמִּקְדָּשׁin the temple,יוֹםdayיוֹםby dayוְלֹא־שְׁלַחְתֶּםyou stretched forth noיֶדְכֶםhandsבִּיagainst me:וְאוּלָםbutזֹאתthisשְׁעַתְכֶםis your hour,וְזֶהandשִׁלְטוֹןthe power ofהַחֹשֶׁךְ׃darkness.

    When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched forth no hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.

54. 54

    וַיִּתְפְּשׂוּThen took theyאוֹתוֹhim,וַיּוֹלִיכֻהוּand led him,וַיְבִיאֻהוּand brought him intoבֵּיתthe house ofהַכֹּהֵןpriest's.הַגָּדוֹלthe highוּפֶטְרוֹסAnd Peterהֹלֵךְfollowedאַחֲרָיוhimמֵרָחוֹק׃afar off.

    Then took they him, and led him, and brought him into the high priest's house. And Peter followed afar off.

55. 55

    וַיְהִיAndכִּי־בִעֲרוּwhen they had kindledאֵשׁa fireבְּתוֹךְin the midst ofהֶחָצֵרthe hall,וַיֵּשְׁבוּand were set downיַחְדָּוtogether,וַיֵּשֶׁבsat downגַּם־פֶּטְרוֹסPeterבְּתוֹכָם׃among them.

    And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and were set down together, Peter sat down among them.

56. 56

    וַתִּרְאֵהוּBut beheld himשִׁפְחָהa maidאַחַתcertainיוֹשֵׁבas he satנֶגֶדbyהָאוּרthe fire,וַתַּבֶּט־בּוֹand earnestly looked upon him,וַתֹּאמֶרand said,גַּם־זֶהThis man alsoהָיָהwasעִמּוֹ׃with him.

    But a certain maid beheld him as he sat by the fire, and earnestly looked upon him, and said, This man was also with him.

57. 57

    וַיְכַחֶשׁ־בּוֹAnd he denied him,וַיֹּאמַרsaying,אִשָּׁהWoman,לֹאnotיְדַעְתִּיו׃I know him.

    And he denied him, saying, Woman, I know him not.

58. 58

    וְעוֹדAnd afterמְעַטa little whileוַיִּרְאֵהוּsaw him,אִישׁa manאַחֵרother,וַיֹּאמֶרand said,גַּם־אַתָּהYou are alsoמֵהֶםof them.וַיֹּאמֶרAnd said,פֶּטְרוֹסPeterבֶּן־אָדָםMan,לֹאnotמֵהֶםof themאָנֹכִי׃I am.

    And after a little while another saw him, and said, Thou art also of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not.

59. 59

    וְאַחֲרֵיAnd afterעֲבֹרthe passing ofכְּשָׁעָהaboutאַחַתone hour,טָעַןconfidently affirmed,אִישׁanotherאַחֵרman,לֵאמֹרsaying,אׇמְנָםOf a truthגַּם־זֶהthis fellow alsoהָיָהwasעִמּוֹwith him:כִּי־גְלִילִיfor a Galilaeanגַּם־הוּא׃is he also.

    And about the space of one hour after another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this fellow also was with him: for he is a Galilæan.

60. 60

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd said,פֶּטְרוֹסPeterבֶּן־אָדָםMan,לֹאnotיָדַעְתִּיI knowמָהwhatאַתָּהyouאֹמֵרsayest.וְעוֹדֶנּוּAnd immediately, while he yetמְדַבֵּרspake,וְהַתַּרְנְגוֹלthe cockקָרָא׃crew.

    And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew.

61. 61

    וַיִּפֶןAnd turned,הָאָדוֹןthe Lordוַיַּבֵּטand lookedאֶל־פֶּטְרוֹסupon Peter.וַיִּזְכֹּרAnd rememberedפֶּטְרוֹסPeterאֶת־דְּבַרthe word ofהָאָדוֹןthe Lord,אֲשֶׁרhowדִּבֶּרhe had saidאֵלָיוunto him,לֵאמֹרsaying,בְּטֶרֶםBeforeיִקְרָאcrow,הַתַּרְנְגֹלthe cockתְּכַחֶשׁ־בִּיyou shall deny meשָׁלשׁthreeפְּעָמִים׃times.

    And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.

62. 62

    וַיֵּצֵאAnd wentפֶטְרוֹסPeterהַחוּצָהout,וַיְמָרֵרand weptבַּבֶּכִי׃bitterly.

    And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.

63. 63

    וְהָאֲנָשִׁיםAnd the menאֲשֶׁרthatאָחֲזוּheldאֶת־יֵשׁוּעַJesusהִתְעַלְּלוּmockedבוֹhim,וַיַּכֻּהוּ׃and smote him.

    And the men that held Jesus mocked him, and smote him.

64. 64

    וַיְחַפּוּAnd when they had blindfoldedאֶת־רֹאשׁוֹhim,וַיַּכֻּהוּthey struck himעַל־פָּנָיוon the face,וַיִּשְׁאָלֻהוּand asked him,לֵאמֹרsaying,הִנָּבֵאProphesy,מִיwho isהוּאheהַמַּכֶּהthat smoteאוֹתְךָ׃you?

    And when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face, and asked him, saying, Prophesy, who is it that smote thee?

65. 65

    וְעוֹדAndגִּדּוּפִיםblasphemouslyאֲחֵרִיםother thingsהִרְבּוּspake theyעָלָיו׃against him.

    And many other things blasphemously spake they against him.

66. 66

    וּבִהְיֹתAnd as soon asהַבֹּקֶרit was day,נִקְהֲלוּwere gathered together,זִקְנֵיthe elders ofהָעָםthe peopleוְרָאשֵׁיand the chiefהַכֹּהֲנִיםpriestsוְהַסּוֹפְרִיםand the scribes,וַיַּעֲלֻהוּand led himלִפְנֵיintoסַנְהֶדְרִיןthe councilשֶׁלָּהֶםof theirs,וַיֹּאמְרוּ׃saying,

    And as soon as it was day, the elders of the people and the chief priests and the scribes came together, and led him into their council, saying,

67. 67

    אִםAre youהַמָּשִׁיחַthe Christ?אַתָּהyou,הַגֶּד־לָנוּtell us.וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,אִם־אַגִּידIf I tellלָכֶםyou,לֹאnotתַאֲמִינוּ׃you will believe:

    Art thou the Christ? tell us. And he said unto them, If I tell you, ye will not believe:

68. 68

    וְאִם־אֶשְׁאַלAnd if I also ask you,לֹא־תָשִׁיבוּyou will not answerדָבָרme,וְלֹאnorתְשַׁלְּחוּנִי׃let me go.

    And if I also ask you, ye will not answer me, nor let me go.

69. 69

    אֲבָלbutמֵעַתָּהhereafterיִהְיֶהshallבֶן־הָאָדָםthe Son of manיֹשֵׁבsitלִימִיןon the right hand ofגְּבוּרַתthe power ofהָאֱלֹהִים׃God.

    Hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God.

70. 70

    וַיֹּאמְרוּThen saidכֻלָּםthey all,הַאַתָּהAre youאֵפוֹאthenהוּאheבֶּן־הָאֱלֹהִיםthe Son of God?וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,אַתֶּםYouאֲמַרְתֶּםsayכִּי־אֲנִיthat Iהוּא׃am.

    Then said they all, Art thou then the Son of God? And he said unto them, Ye say that I am.

71. 71

    וַיֹּאמְרוּAnd they said,מַה־לָּנוּWhatעוֹדfurtherלְבַקֵּשׁneed weעֵדִיםwitness?הֲלֹאforבְאׇזְנֵינוּwe ourselves have heardשְׁמַעְנוּהָitמִפִּיו׃of his own mouth.

    And they said, What need we any further witness? for we ourselves have heard of his own mouth.
