   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passבַּיָּמִיםbay/ya/MIMin the daysהָהֵםha/HEMthoseוַיֵּצֵאvay/ye/TSEwent outצַוtsava decreeמֵאֵתme/ETfromקֵיסַרKe/SARCaesarאוֹגוּסְטוֹסO/gus/TOSAugustusלִמְנוֹתlim/NOTto numberאֶת־כׇּל־יֹשְׁבֵיet-kol-yosh/VEall the inhabitants ofתֵבֵל׃te/VELthe world

   And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Cæsar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.

   וְהַמִּפְקָדve/ham/mif/KADand the censusהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisהָיָהha/YAwasהָרִאשׁוֹןha/ri/SHONthe firstבִּהְיוֹתbih/YOTwhen wasקוּרִינִיּוֹסKu/ri/niy/YOSCyreniusשַׁלִּיטshal/LITrulerבְּסוּרְיָא׃be/Sur/YAin Syria

   (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)

3. 3

   וַיֵּלְכוּvay/yel/KHUand wentכֻלָּםkhul/LAMall of themלְהִתְפָּקֵדle/hit/pa/KEDto be numberedאִישׁisheach manלְעִירוֹ׃le/i/ROto his own city

   And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.

   וַיַּעַלvay/YA/aland went upגַּם־יוֹסֵףgam-Yo/SEFalso Josephמִן־הַגָּלִילmin-Hag/ga/LILfrom Galileeמֵעִירme/IRfrom the city ofנְצֶרֶתNe/TSE/retNazarethאֶל־יְהוּדָהel-Ye/hu/DAto Judahלְעִירle/IRto the city ofדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidהַנִּקְרֵאתhan/nik/RETwhich is calledבֵּית־לָחֶםBet-LA/chemBethlehemכִּי־הָיָהki-ha/YAfor he wasמִבֵּיתmib/BETof the house ofדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidוּמִמִּשְׁפַּחְתּוֹ׃u/mim/mish/pach/TOand of his family

   And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judæa, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)

   לְהִתְפָּקֵדle/hit/pa/KEDto be numberedעִם־מִרְיָםim-Mir/YAMwith Maryהַמְאֹרָשָׂהham/o/ra/SAwho was betrothedלוֹloto himלְאִשָּׁהle/ish/SHAas wifeוְהִיאve/HIand sheהָרָה׃ha/RAwas pregnant

   To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passבִּהְיוֹתָםbih/yo/TAMwhile they wereשָׁםshamthereוַיִּמְלְאוּvay/yim/le/Uwere fulfilledיָמֶיהָya/ME/haher daysלָלֶדֶת׃la/LE/detto give birth

   And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.

   וַתֵּלֶדvat/TE/ledand she boreאֶת־בְּנָהּet-be/NAher sonהַבְּכוֹרhab/be/KHORthe firstbornוַתְּחַתְּלֵהוּvat/te/chat/te/le/HUand wrapped himוַתַּשְׁכִּיבֵהוּvat/tash/ki/VE/huand laid himבָאֵבוּסva/e/VUSin the mangerכִּיkiforלֹא־הָיָהlo-ha/YAthere was noלָהֶםla/HEMfor themמָקוֹםma/KOMplaceבַּמָּלוֹן׃bam/ma/LONin the inn

   And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

   וְרֹעִיםve/ro/IMand shepherdsהָיוּha/YUwereבָּאָרֶץba/A/retsin the landהַהִיאha/HIthatלֵנִיםle/NIMlodgingבַּשָּׂדֶהbas/sa/DEin the fieldוְשֹׁמְרִיםve/shom/RIMand keepingאֶת־מִשְׁמְרוֹתet-mish/me/ROTthe watches ofהַלַּיְלָהhal/LAY/lathe nightעַל־עֶדְרָם׃al-ed/RAMover their flock

   And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

   וְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdמַלְאַךְmal/AKHan angel ofיְהוָֹהAdonaithe LORDנִצָּבnits/TSAVstoodעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMover themוּכְבוֹדu/khe/VODand the glory ofיְהוָֹהAdonaithe LORDהוֹפִיעַho/FI/ashoneעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMupon themמִסָּבִיבmis/sa/VIVaroundוַיִּירְאוּvay/yi/re/Uand they fearedיִרְאָהyir/Aa fearגְדוֹלָה׃ge/do/LAgreat

   And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themהַמַּלְאָךְham/mal/AKHthe angelאַל־תִּירָאוּal-ti/RA/udo not fearכִּיkiforהִנְנִיhin/NIbehold Iמְבַשֵּׂרme/vas/SERbring good news toאֶתְכֶםet/KHEMyouשִׂמְחָהsim/CHAjoyגְדוֹלָהge/do/LAgreatאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatתִּהְיֶהtih/YEwill beלְכׇל־הָעָם׃le/KHOL-ha/AMto all the people

    And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

    כִּיkiforהַיּוֹםhay/YOMtodayיֻלַּדyul/LADis bornלָכֶםla/KHEMto youמוֹשִׁיעַMo/SHI/aa Saviorאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoהוּאhuisהַמָּשִׁיחַham/Ma/SHI/achthe Messiahהָאָדוֹןha/a/DONthe Lordבְּעִירbe/IRin the city ofדָּוִד׃Da/VIDDavid

    For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

12. 12

    וְזֶהve/ZEand thisלָכֶםla/KHEMis to youהָאוֹתha/OTthe signאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatתִּמְצְאוּןtim/tse/UNyou will findיֶלֶדYE/leda childמָחְתָּלmach/TALswaddledוְשֹׁכֵבve/sho/KHEVand lyingבָּאֵבוּס׃ba/e/VUSin the manger

    And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

13. 13

    וּפִתְאֹםu/fit/OMand suddenlyהָיָהha/YAthere wasאֵצֶלE/tselbesideהַמַּלְאָךְham/mal/AKHthe angelהֲמוֹןha/MONa crowd ofצְבָאtse/VAthe host ofהַשָּׁמָיִםhash/sha/MA/yimheavenוְהֵםve/HEMand they wereמְשַׁבְּחִיםme/shab/be/CHIMpraisingאֶת־הָאֱלֹהִיםet-ha/e/lo/HIMGodוְאֹמְרִים׃ve/om/RIMand saying

    And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

14. 14

    כָּבוֹדka/VODgloryבַּמְּרוֹמִיםbam/me/ro/MIMin the heightsלֵאלֹהִיםle/lo/HIMto Godוּבָאָרֶץu/va/A/retsand on earthשָׁלוֹםsha/LOMpeaceרָצוֹןra/TSONgood willבִּבְנֵיbiv/NEtoward the sons ofאָדָם׃a/DAMmen

    Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

15. 15

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenעָלוּa/LUwent upמֵעֲלֵיהֶםme/a/le/HEMfrom over themהַמַּלְאָכִיםham/mal/a/KHIMthe angelsהַשָּׁמָיְמָהhash/sha/MAY/mato heavenוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUthat saidהָרֹעִיםha/ro/IMthe shepherdsאִישׁisha manאֶל־רֵעֵהוּel-re/E/huto his neighborנַעְבְּרָה־נָּאna/be/RA-nalet us cross nowעַדadtoבֵּית־לֶחֶםBet-LE/chemBethlehemוְנִרְאֶהve/nir/Eand let us seeאֶת־הַדָּבָרet-had/da/VARthe thingהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichנִהְיָהnih/YAhas come to passאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichהוֹדִיעָנוּho/di/a/NUhas made known to usיְהוָֹה׃Adonaithe LORD

    And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.

16. 16

    וַיְמַהֲרוּvay/ma/ha/RUand they hurriedוַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uand cameוַיִּמְצְאוּvay/yim/tse/Uand foundאֶת־מִרְיָםet-Mir/YAMMaryוְאֶת־יוֹסֵףve/ET-yo/SEFand Josephוְאֶת־הַיֶּלֶדve/ET-hay/YE/ledand the childוְהוּאve/HUand he wasשֹׁכֵבsho/KHEVlyingבָּאֵבוּס׃ba/e/VUSin the manger

    And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.

17. 17

    וַיִּרְאוּvay/yir/Uand they sawוַיַּשְׁמִיעוּvay/yash/MI/uand made knownאֶת־הַדָּבָרet-had/da/VARthe wordהַנֶּאֱמָרhan/ne/e/MARwhich was spokenאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themעַל־הַנַּעַרal-han/NA/arabout the boyהַזֶּה׃haz/ZEthis

    And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.

18. 18

    וְכׇל־הַשֹּׁמְעִיםve/KHOL-hash/shom/IMand all who heardתָּמְהוּta/me/HUmarveledעַלalatהַדְּבָרִיםhad/de/va/RIMthe thingsאֲשֶׁר־דִּבְּרוּa/SHER-dib/be/RUthat spokeאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themהָרֹעִים׃ha/ro/IMby the shepherds

    And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.

19. 19

    וּמִרְיָםu/Mir/YAMand Maryשׇׁמְרָהshom/RAkeptאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםet-had/de/va/RIMthe wordsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseוַתְּחַשְּׁבֵםvat/te/chash/she/VEMand considered themבְּלִבָּהּ׃be/lib/BAin her heart

    But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.

20. 20

    וַיָּשׁוּבוּvay/ya/SHU/vuand returnedהָרֹעִיםha/ro/IMthe shepherdsוְהֵםve/HEMand they wereמְהַלֲּלִיםme/hal/la/LIMpraisingוּמְשַׁבְּחִיםu/me/shab/be/CHIMand laudingאֶת־הָאֱלֹהִיםet-ha/e/lo/HIMGodעַל־כֹּלal-kolfor allאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatשָׁמְעוּsha/me/Uthey had heardוְרָאוּve/ra/Uand seenכְּפִי־אֲשֶׁרke/FI-a/SHERaccording asנֶאֱמַרne/e/MARit was saidאֲלֵיהֶם׃a/le/HEMto them

    And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.

21. 21

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passבִּמְלֹאתbim/LOTwhen were fulfilledלַנַּעַרlan/NA/arfor the boyשְׁמֹנָהshe/mo/NAeightיָמִיםya/MIMdaysוַיִּמּוֹלvay/yim/MOLand he was circumcisedוַיִּקָּרֵאvay/yik/ka/REand was calledשְׁמוֹshe/MOhis nameיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusכַּשֵּׁםkash/SHEMas the nameאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichקָרָא־לוֹka/RA-localled himהַמַּלְאָךְham/mal/AKHthe angelבְּטֶרֶםbe/TE/rembeforeהֹרָהHO/rahe was conceivedבַבָּטֶן׃vab/BA/tenin the womb

    And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb.

22. 22

    וַיִּמְלְאוּvay/yim/le/Uand were fulfilledיְמֵיye/MEthe days ofטׇהֳרָהּto/ho/RAher purificationכְּתוֹרַתke/to/RATaccording to the law ofמֹשֶׁהMo/SHEMosesוַיַּעֲלֻהוּvay/ya/a/lu/HUand they brought him upיְרוּשָׁלַיִםYe/ru/sha/LA/yimto Jerusalemלְהַעֲמִידוֹle/ha/a/mi/DOto present himלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeיְהוָֹה׃Adonaithe LORD

    And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord;

23. 23

    כַּכָּתוּבkak/ka/TUVas it is writtenבְּתוֹרַתbe/to/RATin the law ofיְהוָֹהAdonaithe LORDכׇּל־זָכָרkol-za/KHARevery maleפֶּטֶרPE/terthat opensרֶחֶםRE/chemthe wombיִקָּרֵאyik/ka/REshall be calledקֹדֶשׁKO/deshholyלַיְהוָֹה׃la-Adonaito the LORD

    (As it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord;)

24. 24

    וּלְהַקְרִיבu/le/hak/RIVand to offerקׇרְבָּןkor/BANan offeringכְּמִצְוַתke/mits/VATaccording to the commandment ofתּוֹרַתto/RATthe law ofיְהוָֹהAdonaithe LORDשְׁתֵּיshtetwoתֹרִיםto/RIMturtledovesאוֹoorשְׁנֵיshe/NEtwoבְּנֵיbe/NEyoung ofיוֹנָה׃yo/NAa dove

    And to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.

25. 25

    וְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdאִישׁisha manבִּירוּשָׁלַיִםbI/ru/sha/LA/yimin Jerusalemוּשְׁמוֹu/she/MOand his nameשִׁמְעוֹןShim/ONSimeonוְהוּאve/HUand heאִישׁisha manצַדִּיקtsad/DIKrighteousוְחָסִידve/cha/SIDand devoutמְחַכֶּהme/chak/KEwaitingלְנֶחָמַתle/ne/cha/MATthe consolation ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelוְרוּחַ־הַקֹּדֶשׁve/RU/ach-hak/KO/deshand the Holy Spiritהָיְתָהha/ye/TAwasעָלָיו׃a/LAYVupon him

    And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him.

26. 26

    וְלוֹve/LOand to himנִגְלָהnig/LAwas revealedבְּרוּחַ־הַקֹּדֶשׁbe/RU/ach-hak/KO/deshby the Holy Spiritכִּיkithatלֹאlonotיִרְאֶה־מָּוֶתyir/E-MA/vetwould he see deathעַדaduntilאִם־רָאָהim-ra/Ahe had seenאֶת־מְשִׁיחַet-Me/SHI/achthe Anointed ofיְהוָֹה׃Adonaithe LORD

    And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ.

27. 27

    וַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand he cameבָּרוּחַba/RU/achin the Spiritאֶל־הַמִּקְדָּשׁel-ham/mik/DASHto the templeוַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenהֵבִיאוּhe/VI/ubroughtהוֹרָיוho/RAYVhis parentsאֶת־הַנַּעַרet-han/NA/arthe boyיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTto doלוֹlofor himכְּחֻקַּתke/chuk/KATaccording to the statute ofהַתּוֹרָה׃hat/to/RAthe law

    And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law,

28. 28

    וַיִּקָּחֵהוּvay/yik/ka/CHE/huand he took himעַל־זְרֹעוֹתָיוal-ze/ro/o/TAYVin his armsוַיְבָרֶךְvay/VA/rekhand blessedאֶת־הָאֱלֹהִיםet-ha/e/lo/HIMGodוַיֹּאמַר׃vay/yo/MARand said

    Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,

29. 29

    עַתָּהat/TAnowתִּפְטַרtif/TARYou releaseאֶת־עַבְדֶּךָet-av/DE/khaYour servantכִּדְבָרְךָkid/va/re/KHAaccording to Your wordאֲדֹנָיa/do/NAYO Lordבְּשָׁלוֹם׃be/sha/LOMin peace

    Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:

30. 30

    כִּי־רָאוּki-ra/Ufor have seenעֵינַיe/NAYmy eyesאֶת־יְשׁוּעָתֶךָ׃et-ye/shu/a/TE/khaYour salvation

    For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,

31. 31

    אֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichהֲכִינוֹתָha/khi/NO/taYou have preparedלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeכׇּל־הָעַמִּים׃kol-ha/am/MIMall the peoples

    Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;

32. 32

    אוֹרora lightלְהָאִירle/ha/IRto enlightenלַגּוֹיִםlag/Go/YIMthe Gentilesוְתִפְאֶרֶתve/tif/E/retand the glory ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelעַמֶּךָ׃am/ME/khaYour people

    A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.

33. 33

    וְיוֹסֵףve/Yo/SEFand Josephוְאִמּוֹve/im/MOand his motherתְּמֵהִיםte/me/HIMmarveledעַל־הַדְּבָרִיםal-had/de/va/RIMat the thingsהַנֶּאֱמָרִיםhan/ne/e/ma/RIMthat were saidעָלָיו׃a/LAYVconcerning him

    And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him.

34. 34

    וַיְבָרֶךְvay/VA/rekhand blessedאוֹתָםo/TAMthemשִׁמְעוֹןShim/ONSimeonוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֶל־מִרְיָםel-Mir/YAMto Maryאִמּוֹim/MOhis motherהִנֵּה־זֶהhin/NE-zebehold this oneמוּסָּדmus/SADis setלְמִכְשׁוֹלle/mikh/SHOLfor a stumbling blockוְלִתְקוּמָהve/lit/ku/MAand for the risingלְרַבִּיםle/rab/BIMfor manyבְּיִשְׂרָאֵלbe/Yis/ra/ELin Israelוּלְאוֹתu/le/OTand for a sign ofמְרִיבָה׃me/ri/VAstrife

    And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against;

35. 35

    וְגַםve/GAMand alsoבְּנַפְשֵׁךְbe/naf/SHEKHthrough your own soulתַּחְתֹּרtach/TORwill pierceחָרֶבCHA/reva swordלְמַעַןle/MA/ansoאֲשֶׁר־תִּגָּלֶינָהa/SHER-tig/ga/le/NAthat may be revealedמַחְשְׁבוֹתmach/she/VOTthe thoughts ofלְבַבle/VAVthe heart ofרַבִּים׃rab/BIMmany

    (Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.

36. 36

    וְאִשָּׁהve/ish/SHAand a womanנְבִיאָהne/vi/Aa prophetessהָיְתָהha/ye/TAwasשָּׁםshamthereחַנָּהChan/NAHannahבַּת־פְּנוּאֵלbat-Pe/nu/ELdaughter of Penuelמִשֵּׁבֶטmish/SHE/vetof the tribe ofאָשֵׁרA/SHERAsherוְהִיאve/HIand sheבָּאָהba/Ahad comeבַיָּמִיםvay/ya/MIMinto daysוְיָשְׁבָהve/ya/she/VAand had livedעִם־בַּעְלָהּim-ba/LAwith her husbandשֶׁבַעSHE/vasevenשָׁנִיםsha/NIMyearsאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterבְתוּלֶיהָ׃ve/tu/LE/haher virginity

    And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity;

    וְהִיאve/HIand sheאַלְמָנָהal/ma/NAa widowכְּאַרְבַּעke/ar/BAof about fourוּשְׁמֹנִיםu/she/mo/NIMand eightyשָׁנָהsha/NAyearsוְלֹאve/LOand notמָשָׁהma/SHAshe departedמִן־הַמִּקְדָּשׁmin-ham/mik/DASHfrom the templeוַתַּעֲבֹדvat/ta/a/VODand servedאֶת־אֱלֹהִיםet-e/lo/HIMGodבְּצוֹםbe/TSOMin fastingוּבְתַחֲנוּנִיםu/ve/ta/cha/nu/NIMand in supplicationsלַיְלָהLAY/lanightוָיוֹם׃va/YOMand day

    And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.

38. 38

    וַתָּקׇםvat/TA/komand she aroseבַּשָּׁעָהbash/sha/Ain the hourהַהִיאha/HIthatוַתִּגַּשׁvat/tig/GASHand came nearלְהֹדוֹתle/ho/DOTto give thanksלַיְהוָֹהla-Adonaito the LORDוַתְּדַבֵּרvat/te/dab/BERand spokeעָלָיוa/LAYVof himבְּאׇזְנֵיbe/oz/NEin the ears ofכׇל־הַמְחַכִּיםkhol-ham/chak/KIMall who awaitedלַגְּאֻלָּהlag/ge/ul/LAthe redemptionבִּירוּשָׁלָיִם׃bI/ru/sha/LA/yimin Jerusalem

    And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.

39. 39

    וַיְכַלּוּvay/khal/LUand they finishedאֶת־הַכֹּלet-hak/KOLeverythingכְּתוֹרַתke/to/RATaccording to the law ofיְהוָֹהAdonaithe LORDוַיָּשׁוּבוּvay/ya/SHU/vuthey returnedהַגָּלִילָהhag/Ga/LI/lato Galileeאֶל־נְצֶרֶתel-Ne/TSE/retto Nazarethעִירָם׃i/RAMtheir city

    And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city Nazareth.

    וַיִּגְדַּלvay/yig/DALand grewהַנַּעַרhan/NA/arthe boyוַיֶּחֱזַקvay/ye/che/ZAKand grew strongבָּרוּחַba/RU/achin spiritוַיִּמָּלֵאvay/yim/ma/LEand was filled withחׇכְמָהchokh/MAwisdomוְחֶסֶדve/CHE/sedand the grace ofאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodעִמּוֹ׃im/MOwas with him

    And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.

41. 41

    וְעָלוּve/a/LUand went upהוֹרָיוho/RAYVhis parentsיְרוּשָׁלַיִםYe/ru/sha/LA/yimto Jerusalemמִדֵּיmid/DEas often asשָׁנָהsha/NAyearבְשָׁנָהve/sha/NAby yearלָחֹגla/CHOGto keepאֶת־חַגet-chagthe feast ofהַפָּסַח׃hap/PA/sachthe passover

    Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover.

42. 42

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passבִּהְיוֹתוֹbih/yo/TOwhen he wasבֶּן־שְׁתֵּים־עֶשְׂרֵהben-shtem-es/REtwelveשָׁנָהsha/NAyears oldוַיַּעֲלוּvay/ya/a/LUthey went upיְרוּשָׁלַיִםYe/ru/sha/LA/yimto Jerusalemכְּמִשְׁפַּטke/mish/PATaccording to the custom ofהֶחָג׃he/CHAGthe feast

    And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast.

43. 43

    וַיִּמְלְאוּvay/yim/le/Uand were completedהַיָּמִיםhay/ya/MIMthe daysוַיָּשׁוּבוּvay/ya/SHU/vuand they returnedוַיִּוָּתֵרvay/yiv/va/TERstayed behindהַנַּעַרhan/NA/arthe boyיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusבִּירוּשָׁלַיִםbI/ru/sha/LA/yimin Jerusalemוְיוֹסֵףve/Yo/SEFand Josephוְאִמּוֹve/im/MOand his motherלֹאlonotיָדָעוּ׃ya/DA/uknew

    And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it.

44. 44

    וַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidעִם־חֶבֶלim-CHE/velwith the band ofהָאֹרְחִיםha/or/CHIMtravelersהוּאhuhe isוַיֵּלְכוּvay/yel/KHUand they wentכְּדֶרֶךְke/DE/rekha journey ofיוֹםyoma dayוַיְבַקְשֻׁהוּvay/vak/SHU/huand they sought himבֵּיןbenamongהַקְּרוֹבִיםhak/ke/ro/VIMthe relativesוְהַמְיֻדָּעִים׃ve/ham/yud/da/IMand acquaintances

    But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day's journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance.

45. 45

    וְלֹאve/LOand notמְצָאֻהוּme/tsa/U/huthey found himוַיָּשֻׁבוּvay/ya/SHU/vuand they returnedיְרוּשָׁלָיִםYe/ru/sha/LA/yimto Jerusalemלְבַקְשׁוֹ׃le/vak/SHOto seek him

    And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him.

46. 46

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passמִקֵּץmik/KETSat the end ofשְׁלֹשֶׁתshe/LO/shetthreeיָמִיםya/MIMdaysוַיִּמְצָאֻהוּvay/yim/tsa/U/huthat they found himבַּמִּקְדָּשׁbam/mik/DASHin the templeוְהוּאve/HUand he wasיֹשֵׁבyo/SHEVsittingבְּתוֹךְbe/TOKHin the midst ofהַמּוֹרִיםham/mo/RIMthe teachersוְשֹׁמֵעַve/sho/ME/aand listeningאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themוְשֹׁאֵלve/sho/ELand askingאֹתָם׃o/TAMthem

    And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions.

47. 47

    וְכׇל־הַשֹּׁמְעִיםve/KHOL-hash/shom/IMand all who heardאֹתוֹo/TOhimתָּמָהוּta/MA/humarveledעַל־שִׂכְלוֹal-sikh/LOat his understandingוְעַל־תְּשׁוּבֹתָיו׃ve/AL-te/shu/vo/TAYVand at his answers

    And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.

48. 48

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכִּרְאוֹתָםkir/o/TAMwhen they sawאֹתוֹo/TOhimוַיִּשְׁתּוֹמֲמוּvay/yish/to/ma/MUand they were astonishedוַתֹּאמֶרvat/TO/merand saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himאִמּוֹim/MOhis motherבְּנִיbe/NImy sonלָמָּהLAM/mawhyכָּכָהKA/khathusעָשִׂיתָa/SI/tahave you doneלָּנוּLA/nuto usהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdאָבִיךָa/VI/khayour fatherוְאָנֹכִיve/a/no/KHIand Iבְּעַצְּבַת־לֵבbe/ats/tse/VAT-levin grief of heartבִּקַּשְׁנוּךָ׃bik/kash/nu/KHAhave sought you

    And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.

49. 49

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themלָמָּהLAM/mawhyזֶּהzeis thisבִּקַּשְׁתֶּםbik/kash/TEMyou soughtאֹתִיo/TImeהֲלֹאha/LOdo notיְדַעְתֶּםye/da/TEMknowכִּיkithatעָלַיa/LAYI mustלִהְיוֹתlih/YOTbeבַּאֲשֶׁרba/a/SHERin what isלְאָבִי׃le/A/VImy Father's

    And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?

50. 50

    וְהֵםve/HEMand theyלֹאlonotהֵבִינוּhe/VI/nuunderstoodאֶת־הַדָּבָרet-had/da/VARthe wordאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichדִבֶּרdib/BERhe spokeאֲלֵיהֶם׃a/le/HEMto them

    And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them.

51. 51

    וַיֵּרֶדvay/YE/redand he went downאִתָּםit/TAMwith themוַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameאֶל־נְצָרֶתel-Ne/TSA/retto Nazarethוַיִּכָּנַעvay/yik/ka/NAand was subjectלָהֶםla/HEMto themוְאִמּוֹve/im/MOand his motherשׇׁמְרָהshom/RAkeptבְלִבָּהּve/lib/BAin her heartאֵת־כׇּל־הַדְּבָרִיםet-kol-had/de/va/RIMall the wordsהָאֵלֶּה׃ha/EL/lethese

    And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.

52. 52

    וְיֵשׁוּעַve/Ye/SHU/aand Jesusהֹלֵךְho/LEKHwent onוְגָדֵלve/ga/DELand grewבְּחׇכְמָהbe/chokh/MAin wisdomוּבְקוֹמָהu/ve/ko/MAand in statureוּבְחֵןu/ve/CHENand in favourלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodוְאָדָם׃ve/a/DAMand man

    And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.
