1. 1

   וַיָּבוֹאAnd he enteredוַיַּעֲבֹרand passed throughבִּירִיחוֹ׃Jericho.

   And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho.

2. 2

   וְהִנֵּה־אִישׁAnd, behold, there was a manזַכַּיZacchaeus,שְׁמוֹnamedוְהוּאwhich wasמֵרָאשֵׁיthe chief amongהַמּוֹכְסִיםthe publicans,וְעָשִׁיר׃and he was rich.

   And, behold, there was a man named Zacchæus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich.

3. 3

   וַיְבַקֵּשׁAnd he soughtלִרְאוֹתto seeאֶת־יֵשׁוּעַJesusמִיwhoהוּאhe was;וְלֹאand couldיָכֹלnot,מִפְּנֵיforהָעָםthe press,כִּי־שְׁפַלbecause of statureקוֹמָהlittleהָיָה׃he was.

   And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature.

   וַיְקַדֵּםAnd he ranוַיָּרׇץbefore,וַיַּעַלand climbed upעַל־שִׁקְמָהinto a sycomoreאַחַתtree,לְמַעַןtoרְאוֹתseeאֹתוֹhim:כִּי־שָׁםforדַּרְכּוֹthat way.אֲשֶׁרthatיַעֲבָר־בָּהּ׃he was to pass

   And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way.

   וַיְהִיAndכַּאֲשֶׁרwhenבָּאcameיֵשׁוּעַJesusאֶל־הַמָּקוֹםto the place,הַהוּאthatוַיִּשָּׂאhe lifted upאֶת־עֵינָיוhis eyes,וַיִּרְאֵהוּand saw him,וַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֵלָיוunto him,זַכַּיZacchaeus,רֵדcome down;מַהֵרmake haste,כִּי־הַיּוֹםfor to dayאֵשֵׁבI must abideבְּבֵיתֶךָ׃at your house.

   And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchæus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.

6. 6

   וַיְמַהֵרAnd he made haste,וַיֵּרַדand came down,וַיַּאַסְפֵהוּand received himבְּשִׂמְחָה׃joyfully.

   And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully.

7. 7

   וַיִּלּוֹנוּAnd they murmured,כׇל־הָרֹאִיםwhen they saw it, allלֵאמֹרsaying,בָּאThat he was goneלָלוּןto be guestבְּבֵיתin the house ofאִישׁa manחוֹטֵא׃that is a sinner.

   And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.

8. 8

   וַיַּעֲמֹדAnd stood,זַכַּיZacchaeusוַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֶל־הָאָדוֹןunto the Lord;הִנְנִיBehold,אֲדֹנִיLord,אֶת־מַחֲצִיתthe half ofנְכָסַיmy goodsאֲנִיIנֹתֵןgiveלָעֲנִיִּיםto the poor;וְאִם־עָשַׁקְתִּיand if I have takenאִישׁof any manאָשִׁיבI restoreלוֹhimאַרְבַּעְתָּיִם׃fourfold.

   And Zacchæus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.

9. 9

   וַיֹּאמֶרAnd saidאֵלָיוunto him,יֵשׁוּעַJesusהַיּוֹםThis dayהָיְתָהisתְשׁוּעָהsalvationלַבַּיִתto house,הַזֶּהthisבַּאֲשֶׁרforsomuch asבֶּן־אַבְרָהָםa son of Abraham.גַּם־הוּא׃he also is

   And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham.

10. 10

    כִּיForבָאis comeבֶּן־הָאָדָםthe Son of manלְבַקֵּשׁto seekוּלְהוֹשִׁיעַand to saveאֶת־הָאֹבֵד׃that which was lost.

    For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

11. 11

    וַיְהִיAndכְּשׇׁמְעָםas they heardאֶת־זֹאתthese things,וַיֹּסֶףhe addedוַיְדַבֵּרand spakeמָשָׁלa parable,כִּיbecauseקָרַבhe was nighלִירוּשָׁלַיִםto Jerusalem,וְהֵמָּהandחשְׁבִיםthey thoughtאֲשֶׁרthatבִּמְהֵרָהimmediatelyתִגָּלֶהshould appear.מַלְכוּתthe kingdom ofהָאֱלֹהִים׃God

    And as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear.

12. 12

    וַיֹּאמֶרHe said therefore,אִישׁmanאֶחָדA certainמִן־הָאַצִּילִיםnoblemanהָלַךְwentאֶל־אֶרֶץinto a countryרְחוֹקָהfar,לָקַחַת־לוֹto receive for himselfמַמְלָכָהa kingdom,וְלָשׁוּב׃and to return.

    He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.

13. 13

    וַיִּקְרָאAnd he calledאֶל־עֲשָׂרָהtenמֵעֲבָדָיוof his servants,וַיִּתֵּןand deliveredלָהֶםthemעֲשָׂרָהtenמָנִיםpounds,וַיֹּאמֶרand saidלָהֶםunto them,סַחֲרוּOccupyבָהֶםwith theseעַדtillבֹּאִי׃I come.

    And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.

14. 14

    וּבְנֵיBut citizensעִירוֹhisשֹׂנְאִיםhatedאוֹתוֹhim,וַיִּשְׁלְחוּand sentמַלְאָכִיםa messageאַחֲרָיוafter him,לֵאמֹרsaying,מָאַסְנוּWe will not haveאוֹתוֹhim,הָאִישׁthis manמִמְּלֹךְto reignעָלֵינוּ׃over us.

    But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us.

15. 15

    וַיְהִיAnd it came to pass,אַחֲרֵיthat whenקַחְתּוֹhe had receivedאֶת־הַמַּמְלָכָהthe kingdom,וַיָּשֹׁבand was returned,וַיְצַוthen he commandedלִקְרֹאto be calledאֶת־הָעֲבָדִיםservantsהָהֵםtheseאֲשֶׁרunto whomנָתַןhe had givenלָהֶםthemאֶת־הַכֶּסֶףthe money,לְמַעַןthatיֵדַעhe might knowמָה־הִרְוִיחַhow much had gainedכׇּל־אֶחָדevery manבְּמִסְחָרוֹ׃by trading.

    And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading.

16. 16

    וַיָּבֹאThen cameהָרִאשׁוֹןthe first,וַיֹּאמַרsaying,אֲדֹנִיLord,מָנֶהpoundשֶׁלְּךָof yoursהֵבִיאhath gainedעֲשֶׂרֶתtenמָנִים׃pounds.

    Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds.

17. 17

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saidאֵלָיוunto him,הֱטִיבוֹתָYou have done wellלַעֲשׂוֹתin working,הָעֶבֶדservantהַטּוֹבgoodתַּחַתbecauseאֲשֶׁרthatהָיִיתָyou have beenנֶאֱמָןfaithfulבִּמְעַטin a veryמִזְעָרlittle,הֱיֵהhave youשַׁלִּיטauthorityעַל־עֶשֶׂרover tenעָרִים׃cities.

    And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities.

18. 18

    וַיָּבֹאAnd came,הַשֵּׁנִיthe secondוַיֹּאמַרsaying,אֲדֹנִיLord,מָנֶהpoundשֶׁלְּךָof yoursעָשָׂהhath gainedחֲמֵשֶׁתfiveמָנִים׃pounds.

    And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds.

19. 19

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saidגַּם־לָזֶהlikewise to him,אַף־אַתָּהBe you alsoהֱיֵהrulerעַל־חָמֵשׁover fiveעָרִים׃cities.

    And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities.

20. 20

    וַיָּבֹאAnd cameהָאַחֵרanother,וַיֹּאמַרsaying,הֵא־לְךָLo, here isמָנֶהthe poundשֶׁלָּךְof yours,אֲשֶׁר־הָיָהwhich I haveאֶצְלִיkeptצָרוּרlaid upבְּסוּדָר׃in a napkin:

    And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin:

21. 21

    מִיִּרְאָתִיFor I fearedאֹתְךָyou,כִּיbecauseאִישׁart a man:קָשֶׁהan austereאָתָּהyouלֹקֵחַyou takest upאֶת־אֲשֶׁרthatלֹאnotהִנַּחְתָּyou layedst down,וְקֹצֵרand reapestאֶת־אֲשֶׁרthatלֹאnotזָרָעְתָּ׃you did sow.

    For I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that thou layedst not down, and reapest that thou didst not sow.

22. 22

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saithאֵלָיוunto him,עַל־פִּיךָOut of your own mouthאֶשְׁפָּטְךָwill I judge you,הָעֶבֶדservant.הָרָעyou wickedאַתָּהYouיָדַעְתָּknewestכִּי־אֲנִיthat I wasאִישׁa man,קָשֶׁהan austereלֹקֵחtaking upאֶת־אֲשֶׁרthatלֹאnotהִנַּחְתִּיI laid down,וְקוֹצֵרand reapingאֶת־אֲשֶׁרthatלֹאnotזָרַעְתִּי׃I did sow:

    And he saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not sow:

23. 23

    וְלָמָּהWhereforeלֹא־נָתַתָּthen gavest notאֶת־כַּסְפִּיyou my moneyלַשֻּׁלְחָנִיinto the bank,וַאֲנִיthat Iבְּבוֹאִיat my comingהָיִיתִיmight haveתּוֹבֵעַrequiredאוֹתוֹmine ownבְּמַרְבִּית׃with usury?

    Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury?

24. 24

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saidאֶל־הָעֹמְדִיםunto them that stoodשָׁםby,שְׂאוּTakeמִמֶּנּוּfrom himאֶת־הַמָּנֶהthe pound,וּתְנוּand giveאֶל־אֲשֶׁר־לוֹit to him that hathעֲשֶׂרֶתtenהַמָּנִים׃pounds.

    And he said unto them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give it to him that hath ten pounds.

25. 25

    וַיֹּאמְרוּAnd they saidאֵלָיוunto him,אֲדֹנֵינוּLord,יֶשׁ־לוֹhe hathעֲשֶׂרֶתtenמָנִים׃pounds.

    (And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds.)

26. 26

    הֵןBeholdאֲנִיIאֹמֵרsayלָכֶםunto you,כִּיThatכׇל־אִישׁunto every oneשֶׁיֶּשׁ־לוֹwhich hathיִנָּתֵןshall be given;לוֹto himוַאֲשֶׁרand from him thatאֵיןhathלוֹnot,יֻקַּחshall be taken awayמִמֶּנּוּfrom himגַּםevenאֶת־אֲשֶׁר־לוֹ׃that he hath.

    For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him.

27. 27

    אֲבָלButאֶת־אֹיְבַיmine enemies,הָהֵםthoseאֲשֶׁרwhichמְאָסוּנִיwould notמִמְּלֹךְthat I should reignעֲלֵיהֶםover them,הָבִיאוּbringאֹתָםthemהֵנָּהhither,וְהִרְגוּand slayאֹתָםthemלְפָנָי׃before me.

    But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.

28. 28

    וַיְכַלAnd when he had endedלְדַבֵּרspeakingהַדְּבָרִיםthe thingsהָאֵלֶּהthese,וַיַּעֲבֹרhe wentלִפְנֵיהֶםbefore them,וַיַּעַלascending upיְרוּשָׁלָיִם׃to Jerusalem.

    And when he had thus spoken, he went before, ascending up to Jerusalem.

29. 29

    וַיְהִיAnd it came to pass,בְקָרְבוֹwhen he was come nighאֶל־בֵּית־פַּגֵּיto Bethphageוּבֵית־הִינִיand Bethany,אֶל־הַרat the mountהַנִּקְרָאcalledהַרthe mount ofהַזֵּיתִיםOlives,וַיִּשְׁלַחhe sentשְׁנַיִםtwoמִתַּלְמִידָיוof his disciples,לֵאמֹר׃saying,

    And it came to pass, when he was come nigh to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount called the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples,

30. 30

    לְכוּGo youאֶל־הַכְּפָרinto the villageאֲשֶׁרwhich isמִמּוּלֵנוּover against you;וְהָיָהand it shall beבְּבוֹאֲכֶםat your enteringשָׁמָּהthereinto,וּמְצָאתֶםyou shall findעַיִרa coltאָסוּרtied,אֲשֶׁרwhereonמִיָּמָיוyet neverלֹא־רָכַבsatעָלָיוthereonאָדָםman:הַתִּירוּlooseאֹתוֹhim,וְהָבִיאוּ׃and bring him hither.

    Saying, Go ye into the village over against you; in the which at your entering ye shall find a colt tied, whereon yet never man sat: loose him, and bring him hither.

31. 31

    וְכִי־יֹאמַרAnd if askאֲלֵיכֶםyou,אִישׁany manלָמָּהWhyתַתִּירֻהוּdo you loose him?כֹּהthusתֹאמְרוּshall you sayאֵלָיוunto him,יַעַןBecauseכִּיthatהָאָדוֹןthe Lordצָרִיךְhath need ofלוֹ׃him.

    And if any man ask you, Why do ye loose him? thus shall ye say unto him, Because the Lord hath need of him.

32. 32

    וַיֵּלְכוּAnd went their way,הַשְּׁלוּחִיםthey that were sentוַיִּמְצְאוּand foundכַּאֲשֶׁרeven asדִּבֶּרhe had saidאֲלֵיהֶם׃unto them.

    And they that were sent went their way, and found even as he had said unto them.

33. 33

    וַיַּתִּירוּAnd as they were loosingאֶת־הָעָיִרthe colt,וַיֹּאמֶרsaidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,בְּעָלָיוthe owners thereofלָמָּהWhyזֶּהthisאַתֶּםyouמַתִּירִיםloose youאֶת־הָעָיִר׃the colt?

    And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said unto them, Why loose ye the colt?

34. 34

    וַיֹּאמְרוּAnd they said,הָאָדוֹןThe Lordצָרִיךְhath need ofלוֹ׃him.

    And they said, The Lord hath need of him.

35. 35

    וַיְבִיאֻהוּAnd they brought himאֶל־יֵשׁוּעַto Jesus:וַיַּשְׁלִיכוּand they castאֶת־בִּגְדֵיהֶםtheir garmentsעַל־הָעַיִרupon the colt,וַיַּרְכִּיבוּand they setעָלָיוthereonאֶת־יֵשׁוּעַ׃Jesus.

    And they brought him to Jesus: and they cast their garments upon the colt, and they set Jesus thereon.

36. 36

    וּבְלֶכְתּוֹAnd as he went,הִצִּיעוּthey spreadאֶת־בִּגְדֵיהֶםtheir clothesעַל־הַדָּרֶךְ׃in the way.

    And as he went, they spread their clothes in the way.

37. 37

    וַיִּקְרַבAnd when he was come nigh,אֶל־מוֹרַדeven now at the descent ofהַרthe mount ofהַזֵּיתִיםOlives,וַיָּחֵלּוּbeganכׇּל־הֲמוֹןthe whole multitude ofהַתַּלְמִידִיםthe disciplesלְשַׁבֵּחַto rejoice and praiseאֶת־הָאֱלֹהִיםGodבְּשִׂמְחָהwith joyוּבְקוֹלand with a voiceגָּדוֹלloudעַלforכׇּל־הַגְּבוּרוֹתall the mighty worksאֲשֶׁרthatרָאוּthey had seen;לֵאמֹר׃saying,

    And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen;

38. 38

    בָּרוּךְBlessed beהַמֶּלֶךְthe Kingהַבָּאthat comethבְּשֵׁםin the name ofיְהוָֹהthe LORD:שָׁלוֹםpeaceבַּשָּׁמַיִםin heaven,וְכָבוֹדand gloryבַּמְּרוֹמִים׃in the highest.

    Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.

39. 39

    וַאֲנָשִׁיםAndמִןsomeהַפְּרוּשִׁיםof the Phariseesאֲשֶׁרwhich wereבְּתוֹךְinהָעָםthe multitudeאָמְרוּsaidאֵלָיוunto him,רַבִּיMaster,גְּעַרrebukeבְּתַלְמִידֶיךָ׃your disciples.

    And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples.

40. 40

    וַיַּעַןAnd he answeredוַיֹּאמַרand saidאֲנִיIאֹמֵרtellלָכֶםyouאִם־אֵלֶּהthat, if theseיֶחֱשׁוּshould hold their peace,הָאֲבָנִיםthe stonesתִּזְעָקְנָה׃would immediately cry out.

    And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.

41. 41

    וַיְהִיAndכַּאֲשֶׁרwhenקָרַבhe was come near,וַיַּרְאhe beheldאֶת־הָעִירthe city,וַיֵּבְךְand weptעָלֶיהָover it,וַיֹּאמַר׃saying,

    And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it,

42. 42

    לוּIfיָדַעַתְּyou had known,גַּם־אַתְּeven you,בְּעוֹדat least inיוֹמֵךְday,הַזֶּהthis yourאֶת־דֶּרֶךְthe things which belongשְׁלוֹמֵךְunto your peace!וְעַתָּהbut nowנִסְתַּרthey are hidמֵעֵינָיִךְ׃from your eyes.

    Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.

43. 43

    כִּיForהִנֵּהbeholdיָמִיםthe daysבָּאִיםshall comeעָלָיִךְupon you,וְשָׁפְכוּshall castאֹיְבַיִךְthat your enemiesסוֹלֲלָהa trenchסְבִיבָיִךְabout you,וְהִקִּיפוּךְand compass you round,וְצָרוּand keep inעָלַיִךְyouמִכׇּל־עֲבָרָיִךְ׃on every side,

    For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side,

44. 44

    וְהָרְסוּAnd shall lay even withעַד־לָאָרֶץthe ground,אוֹתָךְyouוְאֶת־בָּנַיִךְand your childrenבְּקִרְבֵּךְwithin you;וְלֹא־יַשְׁאִירוּand they shall not leaveבָךְin youאֶבֶןone stoneעַל־אָבֶןupon another;עֵקֶבbecauseאֲשֶׁר־לֹאnotיָדַעַתְּyou knewעֵתthe time ofפְּקֻדָּתֵךְ׃your visitation.

    And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.

45. 45

    וַיָּבֹאAnd he wentאֶל־הַמִּקְדָּשׁinto the temple,וַיָּחֶלand beganלְגָרֵשׁto castמִשָּׁםtherefromאֵת־הַמֹּכְרִיםthem that sold therein,וְאֵתandהַקּוֹנִיםthem that boughtבּוֹ׃therein;

    And he went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold therein, and them that bought;

46. 46

    וַיֹּאמֶרSayingאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,הֵןBeholdכָּתוּבIt is written,בֵּיתִיMy houseבֵּית־תְּפִלָּהis the house of prayer:וְאַתֶּםbut youעֲשִׂיתֶםhave madeאוֹתוֹitמְעָרַתa den ofפָּרִיצִים׃thieves.

    Saying unto them, It is written, My house is the house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of thieves.

47. 47

    וַיְהִיAndמְלַמֵּדhe taughtבַּמִּקְדָּשׁin the templeיוֹםdayיוֹםby day.וְרָאשֵׁיBut the chiefהַכֹּהֲנִיםpriestsוְהַסּוֹפְרִיםand the scribesוְגַם־רָאשֵׁיand the chief ofהָעָםthe peopleבִּקְשׁוּsoughtלְאַבְּדוֹ׃to destroy him,

    And he taught daily in the temple. But the chief priests and the scribes and the chief of the people sought to destroy him,

48. 48

    וְלֹאAndמָצְאוּcould not findמַה־לַּעֲשׂוֹתwhat they might do:כִּיforכׇל־הָעָםall the peopleדָּבְקוּwere very attentiveאַחֲרָיוunto himלִשְׁמֹעַto hearאֹתוֹ׃him.

    And could not find what they might do: for all the people were very attentive to hear him.
