1. 1

   וְגַםAndאֶל־תַּלְמִידָיוunto his disciples,אָמַרhe saidאִישׁa manעָשִׁירrich,הָיָהThere wasוְלוֹwhich hadסֹכֵןa stewardעַל־בֵּיתוֹover his house;וַיַּלְשִׁינֻהוּand the same was accusedאֵלָיוunto himכִּי־מְפַזֵּרthat had wastedהוּאheאֶת־קִנְיָנָיו׃his goods.

   And he said also unto his disciples, There was a certain rich man, which had a steward; and the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his goods.

2. 2

   וַיִּקְרָאAnd he calledאֵלָיוhim,וַיֹּאמַרand saidמַה־זֹּאתunto him, How is itשָׁמַעְתִּיthat I hearעָלֶיךָthis of you?תֵּןgiveחֶשְׁבּוֹןan account ofפְּקֻדָּתְךָyour stewardship;כִּיforלֹאnotתוּכַלyou mayestלִהְיוֹתbeעוֹדno longerסֹכֵןstewardלִי׃unto me.

   And he called him, and said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee? give an account of thy stewardship; for thou mayest be no longer steward.

3. 3

   וַיֹּאמֶרThen saidהַסּוֹכֵןthe stewardבְּלִבּוֹwithin himself,מָהWhatאֶעֱשֶׂהshall I do?כִּי־יִקַּחfor taketh awayאֲדֹנִיmy lordמִמֶּנִּיfrom meאֶת־הַפְּקֻדָּהthe stewardship:לַעֲדֹרI cannotלֹא־אוּכַלdig;וְלַחֲזוֹרto go beggingעַל־הַפְּתָחִיםat the doorsאֲנִיIבוֹשׁ׃am ashamed.

   Then the steward said within himself, What shall I do? for my lord taketh away from me the stewardship: I cannot dig; to beg I am ashamed.

4. 4

   יָדַעְתִּיI am resolvedמָהwhatאֶעֱשֶׂהto do,לְמַעַןthat,יַאַסְפוּנִיthey may receive meאֶל־בָּתֵּיהֶםinto their houses,בְּעֵתwhenאִםwhenהוּסַרְתִּיI am put outמִפְּקֻדָּתִי׃of the stewardship.

   I am resolved what to do, that, when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses.

   וַיִּקְרָאSo he calledאֶל־כׇּל־אֶחָדevery one ofמֵהָאֲנָשִׁיםthe menאֲשֶׁר־נָשָׁהthat owedבָהֶםuntoאֲדֹנָיוhis lord,וַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֶל־הָרִאשׁוֹןunto the first,כַּמָּהHow muchאַתָּהyouחַיָּבowestלַאדֹנִי׃unto my lord?

   So he called every one of his lord's debtors unto him, and said unto the first, How much owest thou unto my lord?

6. 6

   וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he said,מֵאָה־בַתAn hundred measures ofשָׁמֶןoil.וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saidאֵלָיוunto him,קַחTakeאֶת־שְׁטָרְךָyour bill,וּמַהֵרand quicklyשֵׁבsit downוְכָתַבְתָּand writeחֲמִשִּׁים׃fifty.

   And he said, An hundred measures of oil. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and sit down quickly, and write fifty.

7. 7

   וְאֶל־אַחֵרThen to anotherאָמַרsaid he,כַּמָּהhow muchאַתָּהyouחַיָּבowest?וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he said,מְאַתAn hundredכֹּרmeasures ofחִטִּיםwheat.וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saidקַחunto him, Takeאֶת־שְׁטָרְךָyour bill,וּכְתֹבand writeשְׁמֹנִים׃fourscore.

   Then said he to another, And how much owest thou? And he said, An hundred measures of wheat. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and write fourscore.

8. 8

   וַיְשַׁבַּחAnd commendedהָאָדוֹןthe lordאֶת־סֹכֵןthe stewardהָעַוְלָהunjust,עַל־אֲשֶׁרbecauseהֶעֱרִיםhe had dealtלַעֲשׂוֹתwisely:כִּיforבְנֵיthe children ofהָעוֹלָםworldהַזֶּהthisעֲרוּמִיםwiserהֵםare theyבְּדוֹרָםin their generationמִבְּנֵיthan the children ofהָאוֹר׃light.

   And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.

9. 9

   וְגַם־אֲנִיAnd Iאֹמֵרsayלָכֶםunto you,קְנוּMakeלָכֶםto yourselvesאֹהֲבִיםfriendsבְּמָמוֹנָהּof the mammon ofשֶׁל־עַוְלָהunrighteousness;לְמַעַןthat,יַאַסְפוּthey may receiveאֶתְכֶםyouבְּעֵתwhenכְּלֹתוֹyou fail,אֶל־מִשְׁכְּנוֹתinto habitationsעוֹלָם׃everlasting.

   And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when ye fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations.

10. 10

    הַנֶּאֱמָןHe that is faithfulבִּמְעַטin that which isמִזְעָרleastנֶאֱמָןis faithfulגַּם־בְּהַרְבֵּהalso in much:וְהַמְעַוֵּלand he that is unjustבִּמְעַטin that which isמִזְעָרleastמְעַוֵּלis unjustגַּם־בְּהַרְבֵּה׃also in much.

    He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.

11. 11

    לָכֵןIf thereforeאִם־בְּמָמוֹנָהּin the mammonשֶׁל־עַוְלָהunrighteousלֹאnotהֱיִיתֶםyou have beenנֶאֱמָנִיםfaithful,אֵת־הָאֲמִתִּיthe true riches?מִיwhoיַפְקִידֶנּוּwill commitבְּיֶדְכֶם׃to your trust

    If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?

12. 12

    וְאִם־בַּדָּבָרAnd if in the thingאֲשֶׁרwhich isלַאֲחֵרִיםanother man's,לֹאnotהֱיִיתֶםyou have beenנֶאֱמָנִיםfaithfulאֵת־אֲשֶׁרwhichלָכֶםyour own?מִיwhoיִתֵּןshall giveלָכֶם׃you that

    And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man's, who shall give you that which is your own?

13. 13

    אֵיןNoעֶבֶדservantיָכֹלcanלַעֲבֹדserveשְׁנֵיtwoאֲדֹנִיםmasters:כִּיforיִשְׂנָאeither he will hateאֶת־הָאֶחָדthe one,וְיֶאֱהַבand loveאֶת־הָאַחֵרthe other;אוֹor elseיִדְבַּקhe will holdבְּאֶחָדto the one,וְאֶת־הָאַחֵרand the otherיִבְזֶהdespise.לֹאnotתוּכְלוּYou cannotעֲבֹדserveאֶת־הָאֱלֹהִיםGodוְאֵתandהַמָּמוֹן׃mammon.

    No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

14. 14

    וַיִּשְׁמְעוּAnd heardכׇּל־הַדְּבָרִיםall thingsהָאֵלֶּהthese:גַּם־הַפְּרוּשִׁיםthe Pharisees also,אֲשֶׁרwhoהֵםtheyאֹהֲבֵיwere lovers ofכָסֶףsilver,וַיַּלְעִיגוּand they deridedלוֹ׃him.

    And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they derided him.

15. 15

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,אַתֶּםYouהֵםare theyהַמִּצְטַדְּקִיםwhich justify yourselvesלִפְנֵיbeforeהָאָדָםmen;וֵאלֹהִיםbut Godיוֹדֵעַknowethאֶת־לְבַבְכֶםyour hearts:כִּיforהַגָּבֹהַּthat which is highly esteemedבָּאָדָםamong menתּוֹעֵבָהabominationהוּאit isלִפְנֵיin the sight ofהָאֱלֹהִים׃God.

    And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.

16. 16

    הַתּוֹרָהThe lawוְהַנְּבִיאִיםand the prophetsנִתְּנוּwereעַד־יוֹחָנָןuntil John:וּמִן־אָזsinceוָהָלְאָהthat timeבְּשׂוֹרַתthe gospel ofמַלְכוּתthe kingdom ofהָאֱלֹהִיםGod is preached,וְכׇל־אִישׁand every manבְּיָדby forceחֲזָקָהpressethיָבוֹאenterethבָהּ׃into it.

    The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it.

17. 17

    אֲבָלAndנָקֵלit is easierלַשָּׁמַיִםfor heavenוְלָאָרֶץand earthלַעֲבֹרto pass,מֵאֲשֶׁרthanיִפֹּלto fail.קוֹץtittleאֶחָדoneמִן־הַתּוֹרָה׃of the law

    And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail.

18. 18

    כׇּל־הַמְשַׁלֵּחַWhosoever putteth awayאֶת־אִשְׁתּוֹhis wife,וְנֹשֵׂאand marriethאַחֶרֶתanother,נֹאֵףcommitteth adulteryהוּאhe:וְכׇל־הַנֹּשֵׂאand whosoever marriethאֶת־הַגְּרוּשָׁהher that is put awayמֵאִישָׁהּfrom her husbandנֹאֵףcommitteth adulteryהוּא׃he.

    Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband committeth adultery.

19. 19

    אִישׁa certain man,עָשִׁירThere was a richהָיָהman,וְהוּאwhich wasלָבוּשׁclothed inאַרְגָּמָןpurpleוָשֵׁשׁand fine linen,וַיִּתְעַנֵּגand faredוַיִּשְׂמַחsumptuouslyיוֹםeveryיוֹם׃day:

    There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:

20. 20

    וְאִישׁAnd there was aאֶבְיוֹןbeggarוּשְׁמוֹnamedלַעְזָרLazarus,מֻשְׁכָּבwhich was laidפֶּתַחat the door ofשַׁעַרthe gate ofבֵּיתוֹhis house,וְהוּאandמָלֵאfull ofאֲבַעְבֻּעוֹת׃sores,

    And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,

21. 21

    וַיִּתְאָוAnd desiringלִשְׂבֹּעַto be fedמִן־הַפֵּרוּרִיםwith the crumbsהַנֹּפְלִיםwhich fellמֵעַלfromשֻׁלְחַןtable:הֶעָשִׁירthe rich man'sוְגַםmoreoverהַכְּלָבִיםthe dogsבָּאוּcameוַיָּלֹקּוּand lickedאֲבַעְבֻּעוֹתָיו׃his sores.

    And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.

22. 22

    וַיְהִיAnd it came to pass,כַּאֲשֶׁרwhenמֵתdied,הָאֶבְיוֹןthe beggarוַיִּשָׂאוּהוּthat he was carriedהַמַּלְאָכִיםby the angelsאֶל־חֵיקinto bosom:אַבְרָהָםAbraham'sוְגַם־הֶעָשִׁירand also the rich manמֵתdied,וַיִּקָּבַר׃and was buried;

    And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;

23. 23

    וַיְהִיAndבִשְׁאוֹלin hellוּכְאֵבוֹbeing in tormentsגָּדוֹלgreatמְאֹדexceeding,וַיִּשָּׂאhe lift upאֶת־עֵינָיוhis eyes,וַיַּרְאand seethאֶת־אַבְרָהָםAbrahamמֵרָחוֹקafar off,וְאֶת־לַעְזָרand Lazarusבְּחֵיקוֹ׃in his bosom.

    And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

24. 24

    וַיִּצְעַקAnd he criedוַיֹּאמֶרand said,אָבִיFatherאַבְרָהָםAbraham,חׇנֵּנִיhave mercy on me,וּשְׁלַח־נָאand send, I pray,אֶת־לַעְזָרLazarus,וְיִטְבֹּלthat he may dipאֶת־רֹאשׁthe tip ofאֶצְבָּעוֹhis fingerבַּמַּיִםin water,לְקָרֵרand coolאֶת־לְשׁוֹנִיmy tongue;כִּיforנֶעֱצַבְתִּיI am tormentedבַּמּוֹקֵדin flameהַזֶּה׃this.

    And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.

25. 25

    וַיֹּאמֶרBut said,אַבְרָהָםAbrahamבְּנִיSon,זְכֹרrememberכִּי־אַתָּהthat youלָקַחְתָּreceivedstטוּבְךָyour good things,בְּחַיֶּיךָin your lifetimeוְלַעְזָרand likewise Lazarusלָקַחreceivedאֶת־הָרָעוֹתevil things:וְעַתָּהbut nowהוּאheיְנֻחַםis comforted,וְאַתָּהand youבְמַעֲצֵבָה׃art tormented.

    But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.

26. 26

    וְלֹאAndעוֹדbeside all this,אֶלָּאbutשֶׁגֵּיאthat a gulfגָדוֹלgreatמַפְרִידis fixedבֵּינֵינוּbetween usוּבֵינֵיכֶםand you,אֲשֶׁרthatלֹא־יוּכְלוּcannot,לַעֲבוֹרpassהַחֲפֵצִיםthey which wouldלָלֶכֶתgoמִפֹּהfrom henceאֲלֵיכֶםto youוְגַםandלֹאnotיַעַבְרוּcan they passמִשָּׁםfrom thenceאֵלֵינוּ׃to us.

    And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.

27. 27

    וַיֹּאמֶרThen he said,אִם־כֵּןI pray you therefore,אָבִיfather,שֹׁאֵלI askאֲנִיIמֵאִתְּךָof youלִשְׁלֹחַthat you would sendאֹתוֹhimאֶל־בֵּיתto house:אָבִי׃my father's

    Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:

28. 28

    כִּיForחֲמִשָּׁהfiveאַחִיםbrethren;לִיI haveוְיָעֵדthat he may testifyבָּהֶםunto them,פֶּן־יָבֹאוּlest they comeגַם־הֵםalso theyאֶל־מְקוֹםinto placeהַמַּעֲצֵבָהof torment.הַזֶּה׃this

    For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.

29. 29

    וַיֹּאמֶרsaithאַבְרָהָםAbrahamיֵשׁunto him, They haveלָהֶםthemמשֶׁהMosesוְהַנְּבִיאִיםand the prophets;אֲלֵיהֶםthemיִשְׁמָעוּן׃let them hear.

    Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.

30. 30

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he said,לֹא־כֵןNay,אַבְרָהָםAbraham:אָבִיfatherכִּיbutאִם־יָבֹאif wentאֲלֵיהֶםunto themאֶחָדoneמִן־הַמֵּתִיםfrom the dead,אָזthenיָשׁוּבוּ׃they will repent.

    And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.

31. 31

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saidאֵלָיוunto him,אִם־לֹאIf notיִשְׁמְעוּthey hearאֶל־משֶׁהMosesוְאֶל־הַנְּבִיאִיםand the prophets,גַּםneitherכִּי־יָקוּםthough should riseאֶחָדoneמִן־הַמֵּתִיםfrom the dead,לֹאyet notיַאֲמִינוּ׃will they be persuaded.

    And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
