   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passבִּקְרֹבbik/ROVwhen drew nearאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himכׇּל־הַמּוֹכְסִיםkol-ham/mokh/SIMall the tax collectorsוְהַחַטָּאִיםve/ha/chat/ta/IMand the sinnersלִשְׁמֹעַlish/MO/ato hearאוֹתוֹ׃o/TOhim

   Then drew near unto him all the publicans and sinners for to hear him.

2. 2

   וַיִּלּוֹנוּvay/yil/LO/nuand grumbledהַפְּרוּשִׁיםhap/Pe/ru/SHIMthe Phariseesוְהַסּוֹפְרִיםve/has/sof/RIMand the scribesלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingהָאִישׁha/ISHthe manהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisמְקַבֵּלme/kab/BELreceivesאֶת־הַחַטָּאִיםet-ha/chat/ta/IMsinnersוְאֹכֵלve/o/KHELand eatsאִתָּם׃it/TAMwith them

   And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them.

   וַיִּשָּׂאvay/yis/SAand he took upאֶת־הַמָּשָׁלet-ham/ma/SHALthe parableהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisוַיֹּאמַרvay/yo/MARand saidאֲלֵיהֶם׃a/le/HEMto them

   And he spake this parable unto them, saying,

   מִיmiwhoבָכֶםva/KHEMamong youהָאִישׁha/ISHthe manאֲשֶׁר־לוֹa/SHER-lowho hasמֵאָהme/Aa hundredכְבָשִׂיםkhe/va/SIMsheepוְאָבַדve/a/VADand is lostלוֹloto himאֶחָדe/CHADoneמֵהֶםme/HEMof themוְלֹאve/LOdoes notיִטּוֹשׁyit/TOSHleaveאֶת־הַתִּשְׁעִיםet-hat/tish/IMthe ninetyוְתִשְׁעָהve/tish/Aand nineבַּמִּדְבָּרbam/mid/BARin the wildernessוְהָלַךְve/ha/LAKHand goאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterהָאֹבֵדha/o/VEDthe lost oneעַדaduntilכִּי־יִמְצָאֵהוּ׃ki-yim/tsa/E/huhe find it

   What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?

   וְהָיָהve/ha/YAand it will beכְּמָצְאוֹke/ma/tse/Owhen he findsאֹתוֹo/TOitיְשִׂימֶנּוּye/si/men/NUhe puts itעַל־כְּתֵפָיוal-ke/te/FAYVon his shouldersבְּשִׂמְחָה׃be/sim/CHAwith joy

   And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing.

   וּבָאu/VAand he comesאֶל־בֵּיתוֹel-be/TOto his houseוְקָרָאve/ka/RAand callsלְאֹהֲבָיוle/o/ha/VAYVhis friendsוְלִשְׁכֵנָיוve/lish/khe/NAYVand his neighborsיַחַדYA/chadtogetherלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingשִׂמְחוּsim/CHUrejoiceאִתִּיit/TIwith meכִּיkiforמָצָאתִיma/TSA/tiI have foundאֶת־שֵׂיִיet-se/YImy sheepהָאֹבֵד׃ha/o/VEDthat was lost

   And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost.

   אֹמֵרo/MERsayאֲנִיa/NIIלָכֶםla/KHEMto youכֵּןkensoשִׂמְחָהsim/CHAjoyתִהְיֶהtih/YEthere will beבַּשָּׁמַיִםbash/sha/MA/yimin heavenעַל־חוֹטֵאal-cho/TEover a sinnerאֶחָדe/CHADoneאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoשָׁבshavturnsיוֹתֵרyo/TERmoreמֵעַל־תִּשְׁעִיםme/AL-tish/IMthan over ninetyוְתִשְׁעָהve/tish/Aand nineצַדִּיקִיםtsad/di/KIMrighteousאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoלֹא־יִצְטָרְכוּlo-yits/ta/re/KHUdo not needלִתְשׁוּבָה׃lit/shu/VArepentance

   I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.

   אוֹoorמִיmiwho isהָאִשָּׁהha/ish/SHAthe womanאֲשֶׁר־לָהּa/SHER-lawho hasעֲשָׂרָהa/sa/RAtenדַרְכְּמוֹנִיםdar/ke/mo/NIMdrachmasוְאָבַדve/a/VADand is lostלָהּlato herדַּרְכְּמוֹןdar/ke/MONdrachmaאֶחָדe/CHADoneוְלֹא־תַדְלִיקve/LO-tad/LIKdoes not lightנֵרnera lampוּתְטַאטֵאu/te/ta/TEand sweepאֶת־הַבַּיִתet-hab/BA/yitthe houseוּתְחַפֵּשׂu/te/chap/PESand searchהֵיטֵבhe/TEVwellעַדaduntilכִּי־תִמְצָאֵהוּ׃ki-tim/tsa/e/HUshe find it

   Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it?

   וְהָיָהve/ha/YAand it will beכְּמָצְאָהּke/ma/tse/Awhen she findsאוֹתוֹo/TOitתִּקְרָאtik/RAshe callsלְרֵעוֹתֶיהָle/re/o/TE/haher friendsוְלִשְׁכֵנוֹתֶיהָve/lish/khe/no/te/HAand her neighborsלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingשְׂמַחְנָהse/mach/NArejoiceאִתִּיit/TIwith meכִּיkiforמָצָאתִיma/TSA/tiI have foundאֵת־הַדַּרְכְּמוֹןet-had/dar/ke/MONthe drachmaאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatאָבַדa/VADwas lostלִי׃lito me

   And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbours together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost.

    כֵּןkensoאֲנִיa/NIIאֹמֵרo/MERsayלָכֶםla/KHEMto youתִּהְיֶהtih/YEthere will beשִׂמְחָהsim/CHAjoyלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeמַלְאֲכֵיmal/a/KHEthe angels ofאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodעַל־חוֹטֵאal-cho/TEover a sinnerאֶחָדe/CHADoneאֲשֶׁר־שָׁבa/SHER-shavwho turnsמֵחַטָּאתוֹ׃me/chat/ta/TOof his sin

    Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.

    וַיֹּאמַרvay/yo/MARand he saidאִישׁisha manאֶחָדe/CHADoneהָיוּha/YUthere wereלוֹloto himשְׁנֵיshe/NEtwoבָנִים׃va/NIMsons

    And he said, A certain man had two sons:

12. 12

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהַצָּעִירhats/tsa/IRthe youngerאֶל־אָבִיוel-a/VIVto his fatherאָבִיa/VImy fatherתְּנָה־לִּיte/NA-ligive meאֶת־חֵלֶקet-CHE/lekthe portion ofהַנְּכָסִיםhan/ne/kha/SIMthe propertyאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatיִפֹּלyip/POLfallsלִיlito meוַיְחַלֵּקvay/chal/LEKand he dividedלָהֶםla/HEMto themאֶת־הַנַּחֲלָה׃et-han/na/cha/LAthe inheritance

    And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living.

13. 13

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterיָמִיםya/MIMdaysאֲחָדִיםa/cha/DIMa fewוַיֶּאֱסֹףvay/ye/e/SOFgatheredהַבֵּןhab/BENthe sonהַצָּעִירhats/tsa/IRthe youngerאֶת־הַכֹּלet-hak/KOLeverythingוַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand wentאֶל־אֶרֶץel-E/retsto a landרְחוֹקָהre/cho/KAfarוַיְהִיvay/HIand he wasזוֹלֵלzo/LELa gluttonוְסֹבֵאve/so/VEand a drunkardוַיְפַזֵּרvay/faz/ZERand he scatteredשָׁםshamthereאֶת־רְכֻשׁוֹ׃et-re/khu/SHOhis substance

    And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.

14. 14

    וְאַחֲרֵיve/a/cha/REand afterכַלּוֹתוֹkhal/lo/TOhe had finishedאֶת־הַכֹּלet-hak/KOLallהָיָהha/YAthere wasרָעָבra/AVa famineחָזָקcha/ZAKsevereבָּאָרֶץba/A/retsin landהַהִיאha/HIthatוַיָּחֶלvay/YA/cheland he beganלִהְיוֹתlih/YOTto beחֲסַר־לָחֶם׃cha/SAR-LA/chemlacking bread

    And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want.

15. 15

    וַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand he wentוַיִּדְבַּקvay/yid/BAKand clungבְּאֶחָדbe/e/CHADto oneמִבְּנֵיmib/be/NEof the sons ofהַמְּדִינָהham/me/di/NAthe provinceבָּאָרֶץba/A/retsin the landהַהִיאha/HIthatוַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand he sentאוֹתוֹo/TOhimאֶל־שְׂדוֹתָיוel-se/do/TAYVinto his fieldsלִרְעוֹתlir/OTto feedחֲזִירִים׃cha/zi/RIMpigs

    And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.

16. 16

    וַיִּתְאָוvay/yit/AVand he longedלְמַלֵּאle/mal/LEto fillבִטְנוֹvit/NOhis bellyמֵהַחֲרוּבִיםme/ha/cha/ru/VIMwith the carob podsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatיֹאכְלוּyo/khe/LUateהַחֲזִירִיםha/cha/zi/RIMthe pigsוְאֵיןve/ENand no oneנֹתֵןno/TENgaveלוֹ׃loto him

    And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him.

17. 17

    וַיָּשֶׁבvay/YA/shevand he returnedאֶל־לִבּוֹel-lib/BOto his heartוַיֹּאמַרvay/yo/MARand saidמָה־רַבּוּma-rab/BUhow many areשְׂכִירֵיse/khi/REthe hired men ofאָבִיa/VImy fatherאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoיֵשׁyeshthere isלָהֶםla/HEMto themלֶאֱכֹלle/e/KHOLto eatדַּיָּםday/YAMenoughוְהוֹתֵרve/ho/TERand left overוַאֲנִיva/a/NIand Iאֹבֵדo/VEDam perishingבָּרָעָב׃ba/ra/AVwith hunger

    And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!

18. 18

    אָקוּמָה־נָּאa/KU/ma-nalet me rise nowוְאֵלְכָהve/el/KHAand goאֶל־אָבִיel-a/VIto my fatherוְאֹמַרve/o/MARand sayאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himאָבִיa/VImy fatherחָטָאתִיcha/TA/tiI have sinnedגַּםgambothלְשָׁמַיִםle/sha/MA/yimagainst heavenגַּםgamandלְפָנֶיךָ׃le/fa/NE/khabefore you

    I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,

19. 19

    וּנְקַלֹּתִיu/ne/kal/LO/tiand I am too slightמֵהִקָּרֵאme/hik/ka/REto be calledעוֹדodanymoreבְּנֶךָbe/NE/khayour sonשִׂימֵנִיsi/ME/nimake meכְּאַחַדke/a/CHADas oneשְׂכִירֶיךָ׃se/khi/re/KHAyour hired men

    And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.

20. 20

    וַיָּקׇםvay/YA/komand he aroseוַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameאֶל־אָבִיוel-a/VIVto his fatherעוֹדֶנּוּo/DEN/nuwhile he was stillמֵרָחוֹקme/ra/CHOKfar offוְאָבִיוve/a/VIVhis fatherרָאָהוּra/A/husaw himוַיֶּהֱמוּvay/ye/he/MUand were stirredמֵעָיוme/AYVhis inward partsוַיָּרׇץvay/YA/rotsand he ranוַיִּפֹּלvay/yip/POLand fellעַל־צַוָּארָיוal-tsav/va/RAYVon his neckוַיִּשָּׁקֵהוּ׃vay/yish/sha/KE/huand kissed him

    And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.

21. 21

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himהַבֵּןhab/BENthe sonאָבִיa/VImy fatherחָטָאתִיcha/TA/tiI have sinnedגַּםgambothלְשָׁמַיִםle/sha/MA/yimagainst heavenגַּםgamandלְפָנֶיךָle/fa/NE/khabefore youוַאֲנִיva/a/NIand Iנְקַלֹּתִיne/kal/lo/TIam too slightמֵהִקָּרֵאme/hik/ka/REto be calledעוֹדodanymoreבְּנֶךָ׃be/NE/khayour son

    And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son.

22. 22

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהָאָבha/AVthe fatherאֶל־עֲבָדָיוel-a/va/DAYVto his servantsהָבִיאוּha/VI/ubringאֶת־הַשִּׂמְלָהet-has/sim/LAthe robeהַיָּפָהhay/ya/FAfineוְהַלְבִּישֻׁהוּve/hal/bi/shu/HUand clothe himוּתְנוּu/te/NUand putטַבַּעַתtab/BA/ata ringעַל־יָדוֹal-ya/DOon his handוּנְעָלִיםu/ne/a/LIMand sandalsבְּרַגְלָיו׃be/rag/LAYVon his feet

    But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet:

23. 23

    וְהָבִיאוּve/ha/VI/uand bringעֵגֶלE/gelthe calfהַמַּרְבֵּקham/mar/BEKof the stallוְטִבְחוּve/tiv/CHUand slaughterאֹתוֹo/TOitוְנֹאכְלָהve/no/khe/LAand let us eatוְנִשְׂמָח׃ve/nis/MACHand rejoice

    And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry:

24. 24

    כִּיkiforזֶה־בְּנִיze-be/NIthis my sonהָיָהha/YAwasמֵתmetdeadוַיֶּחִיvay/YE/chiand livesוְאֹבֵדve/o/VEDand lostוַיִּמָּצֵאvay/yim/ma/TSEand is foundוַיָּחֵלּוּvay/ya/CHEL/luand they beganלִשְׂמֹחַ׃lis/MO/achto rejoice

    For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.

25. 25

    וּבְנוֹu/ve/NOand his sonהַגָּדוֹלhag/ga/DOLthe elderבַּשָּׂדֶהbas/sa/DEin the fieldוַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passבְשׁוּבוֹve/shu/VOas he returnedכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenקָרַבka/RAVhe drew nearאֶל־הַבַּיִתel-hab/BA/yitto the houseוַיִּשְׁמַעvay/yish/MAhe heardקוֹלkolthe sound ofזִמְרָהzim/RAsongוּמְחֹלוֹת׃u/me/cho/LOTand dances

    Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard musick and dancing.

26. 26

    וַיִּקְרָאvay/yik/RAand he calledאֶל־אַחַדel-a/CHADone ofהַנְּעָרִיםhan/ne/a/RIMthe boysוַיִּשְׁאַלvay/yish/ALand askedלָדַעַתla/DA/atto knowמַה־הַדָּבָר׃ma-had/da/VARwhat the matter was

    And he called one of the servants, and asked what these things meant.

27. 27

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himכִּי־בָאki-vathat has comeאָחִיךָa/CHI/khayour brotherוַיִּטְבַּחvay/yit/BACHand has slaughteredאָבִיךָa/VI/khayour fatherעֵגֶלE/gelthe calfהַמַּרְבֵּקham/mar/BEKof the stallעַל־אֲשֶׁרal-a/SHERbecauseשָׁבshavhe returnedאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himבְּשָׁלוֹם׃be/sha/LOMin peace

    And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound.

28. 28

    וַיִּחַרvay/YI/charand it burnedלוֹloin himוַיְמָאֵןvay/ma/ENand refusedלָבוֹאla/VOto enterהַבָּיְתָהhab/BAY/tathe houseוַיֵּצֵאvay/ye/TSEand went outאָבִיוa/VIVhis fatherוַיְדַבֵּרvay/dab/BERand spokeעַל־לִבּוֹ׃al-lib/BOto his heart

    And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came his father out, and entreated him.

29. 29

    וַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand he answeredוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֶל־אָבִיוel-a/VIVto his fatherהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdזֶהzetheseשָׁנִיםsha/NIMyearsרַבּוֹתrab/BOTmanyאָנֹכִיa/no/KHIIעֹבֵדo/VEDserveאֹתְךָot/KHAyouוּמִיָּמַיu/miy/ya/MAYand in my daysלֹאlonotעָבַרְתִּיa/VAR/tiI transgressedאֶת־מִצְוָתֶךָet-mits/va/te/KHAyour commandmentוְאַתָּהve/at/TAand youמִיָּמַיmiy/ya/MAYin my daysלֹא־נָתַתָּlo-na/TAT/tayou did not giveלִּיlimeגְּדִיge/DIa kidלְמַעַןle/MA/anso thatאָשִׂישׂa/SISI might rejoiceעִם־רֵעָי׃im-re/AYwith my friends

    And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends:

30. 30

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowבָּאbacameבִנְךָ־זֶהvin/KHA-zethis son of yoursאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoבִּלַּעbil/LAswallowedאֶת־נַחֲלָתְךָet-na/cha/la/te/KHAyour inheritanceעִם־הַזֹּנוֹתim-haz/zo/NOTwith prostitutesוַתִּזְבַּח־לוֹvat/tiz/BACH-loyou have killed for himאֶת־עֵגֶלet-E/gelthe calfהַמַּרְבֵּק׃ham/mar/BEKof the stall

    But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf.

31. 31

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himבְּנִיbe/NImy sonאַתָּהat/TAyouתָּמִידta/MIDalwaysעִמָּדִיim/ma/DIwith meוְכֹלve/KHOLand allאֲשֶׁר־לִיa/SHER-lithat I haveלְךָle/KHAis yoursהוּא׃huit is

    And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine.

32. 32

    אֲבָלa/VALbutאָחִיךָa/CHI/khayour brotherהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdרָאוּיra/UYit was fittingלָשׂוּשׂla/SUSto rejoiceוְלִשְׂמֹחַve/lis/MO/achand to be gladעָלָיוa/LAYVfor himכִּיkiforהָיָהha/YAwasמֵתmetdeadוַיֶּחִיvay/YE/chiand livesוְאֹבֵדve/o/VEDand lostוַיִּמָּצֵא׃vay/yim/ma/TSEand is found

    It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.
