   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passבְּבֹאוֹbe/vo/Oas he cameבַשַּׁבָּתvash/shab/BATon the sabbathאֶל־בֵּיתel-betinto the house ofאֶחָדe/CHADoneמֵרָאשֵׁיme/ra/SHEof the heads ofהַפְּרוּשִׁיםhap/Pe/ru/SHIMthe Phariseesלֶאֱכֹלle/e/KHOLto eatלָחֶםLA/chembreadוְהֵמָּהve/HEM/maand theyאֹרְבִיםor/VIMwere lying in waitלוֹ׃lohim

   And it came to pass, as he went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread on the sabbath day, that they watched him.

   וְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdאִישׁisha manאֶחָדe/CHADoneלְפָנָיוle/fa/NAYVbefore himאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoseגּוּפוֹgu/FOhis bodyצָבָהtsa/VAwas swollenמִמָּיִם׃mim/MA/yimwith water

   And, behold, there was a certain man before him which had the dropsy.

   וַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand answeredיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֶל־חַכְמֵיel-chakh/MEto the wise men ofהַתּוֹרָהhat/to/RAthe lawוְאֶל־הַפְּרוּשִׁיםve/EL-hap/pe/ru/SHIMand to the Phariseesלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingהֲמֻתָּרha/mut/TARis it lawfulלִרְפֹּאlir/POto healבַשַּׁבָּת׃vash/shab/BATon the sabbath

   And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day?

   וַיַּחֲרִישׁוּvay/ya/cha/RI/shuand they held their peaceוַיֹּאחֶז־בּוֹvay/YO/chez-boand he took hold of himוַיִּרְפָּאֵהוּvay/yir/pa/e/HUand healed himוַיְשַׁלְּחֵהוּ׃vay/shal/le/CHE/huand sent him away

   And they held their peace. And he took him, and healed him, and let him go;

   וַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand he answeredוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themמִיmiwhoבָכֶםva/KHEMamong youהָאִישׁha/ISHthe manאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoseחֲמֹרוֹcha/mo/ROdonkeyאוֹoorשׁוֹרוֹsho/ROoxיִפּוֹלyip/POLfallsאֶל־הַבְּאֵרel-hab/be/ERinto a wellוְלֹא־יְמַהֵרve/LO-ye/ma/HERand does not hurryלְהַעֲלוֹתוֹle/ha/a/lo/TOto bring it upבְּיוֹםbe/YOMon the day ofהַשַּׁבָּת׃hash/shab/BATthe sabbath

   And answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on the sabbath day?

   וְלֹאve/LOand notיָדְעוּya/de/Uthey knewלְהָשִׁיבle/ha/SHIVto answerדָּבָר׃da/VARa word

   And they could not answer him again to these things.

   וַיִּשָּׂאvay/yis/SAand he took upמְשָׁלוֹme/sha/LOhis parableאֶל־הַקְּרוּאִיםel-hak/ke/ru/IMto the invitedבִּרְאוֹתוֹbir/o/TOwhen he sawאֶת־אֲשֶׁרet-a/SHERhowבָּחֲרוּba/cha/RUthey choseלָהֶםla/HEMfor themselvesלָשֶׁבֶתla/SHE/vetto sitבְּרֹאשׁbe/ROSHat the headוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֲלֵיהֶם׃a/le/HEMto them

   And he put forth a parable to those which were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying unto them,

8. 8

   כִּי־יִקְרָאki-yik/RAwhen invitesאֹתְךָot/KHAyouאִישׁisha manאֶל־הַחֲתֻנָּהel-ha/cha/tun/NAto a weddingאַל־תָּסֵבal-ta/SEVdo not reclineבְּרֹאשׁbe/ROSHat the headפֶּן־יִקָּרֵאpen-yik/ka/RElest be invitedשָׁמָּהSHAM/mathereאִישׁisha manנִכְבָּדnikh/BADmore honoredמִמֶּךָּ׃mim/MEK/kathan you

   When thou art bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honourable man than thou be bidden of him;

   וּבָאu/VAand comesהַקֹּרֵאhak/ko/REwho invitedלְךָle/KHAyouוְלוֹve/LOand himוְאָמַרve/a/MARand saysאֵלֶיךָe/LE/khato youפַּנֵּהpan/NEmakeמָקוֹםma/KOMroomלָזֶהla/ZEfor this oneוְאָזve/AZand thenתָּקוּםta/KUMyou will riseבִּכְלִמָּהbikh/lim/MAwith shameלָשֶׁבֶתla/SHE/vetto sitבַּמָּקוֹםbam/ma/KOMin the placeהָאַחֲרוֹן׃ha/a/cha/RONlast

   And he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room.

    וְכִיve/KHIand whenתִקָּרֵאtik/ka/REyou are invitedלֵךְlekhgoוְהָסֵבve/ha/SEVand reclineבַּמָּקוֹםbam/ma/KOMin the placeהָאַחֲרוֹןha/a/cha/RONlastלְמַעַןle/MA/anso thatיָבֹאya/VOcomesהַקֹּרֵאhak/ko/REwho invitedלְךָle/KHAyouוְאָמַרve/a/MARhe will sayאֵלֶיךָe/LE/khato youאֲהוּבִיa/hu/VImy friendעֲלֵהa/LEgo upלְמַעְלָהle/MA/lahigherמִזֶּהmiz/ZEfrom hereוְהָיָה־לְךָve/ha/YA-le/KHAand there will be to youכָבוֹדkha/VODhonorלִפְנֵיlif/NEin the presence ofהַמְסֻבִּיםham/sub/BIMthose recliningעִמָּךְ׃im/MAKHwith you

    But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee.

    כִּיkiforכׇּל־הַמְרוֹמֵםkol-ham/ro/MEMwhoever exaltsעַצְמוֹats/MOhimselfיִשָּׁפֵלyish/sha/FELwill be brought lowוְהַמַּשְׁפִּילve/ham/mash/PILand whoever humblesאֶת־עַצְמוֹet-ats/MOhimselfיְרוֹמָם׃ye/ro/MAMwill be exalted

    For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

    וְגַםve/GAMand alsoאֶל־הָאִישׁel-ha/ISHto the manאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoקָרָאka/RAinvitedלוֹlohimאָמַרa/MARhe saidכִּיkiwhenתַעֲשֶׂהta/a/SEyou makeסְעוּדַתse/u/DATa meal ofצׇהֳרַיִםtso/ho/RA/yimnoonאוֹoorסְעוּדַתse/u/DATa meal ofעָרֶבA/reveveningאַל־תִּקְרָאal-tik/RAdo not inviteלְאֹהֲבֶיךָle/o/ha/VE/khayour friendsוּלְאַחֶיךָu/le/a/CHE/khanor your brothersוְלִקְרוֹבֶיךָve/lik/ro/ve/KHAand your relativesוְלִשְׁכֵנֶיךָve/lish/khe/ne/KHAand your neighborsהָעֲשִׁירִיםha/a/shi/RIMrichפֶּן־יִקְרְאוּךָpen-yik/re/u/KHAlest they invite youגַּם־הֵמָּהgam-HEM/mathey alsoוְהָיָהve/ha/YAand there will beלְךָle/KHAto youלְשִׁלּוּם׃le/shil/LUMa repayment

    Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee.

    אֲבָלa/VALbutכִּי־תַעֲשֶׂהki-ta/a/SEwhen you makeמִשְׁתֶּהmish/TEa feastקְרָאke/RAinviteהָעֲנִיִּיםha/a/niy/YIMthe poorוְהַקִּטְּעִיםve/hak/kit/te/IMand the maimedוְהַפִּסְחִיםve/hap/pis/CHIMand the lameוְהָעִוְרִים׃ve/ha/iv/RIMand the blind

    But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind:

14. 14

    וְאַשְׁרֶיךָve/ash/RE/khaand blessed are youבַּאֲשֶׁרba/a/SHERbecauseאֵין־לָהֶםen-la/HEMthey have nothingלְשַׁלֶּם־לָךְle/shal/LEM-lakhto repay youכִּיkiforיְשֻׁלַּםye/shul/LAMit will be repaidלְךָle/KHAto youבִּתְחִיַּתbit/chiy/YATat the resurrection ofהַצַּדִּיקִים׃hats/tsad/di/KIMthe righteous

    And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.

15. 15

    וַיִּשְׁמַעvay/yish/MAand heardאֶחָדe/CHADoneמִן־הַמְסֻבִּיםmin-ham/sub/BIMof those recliningאֶת־הַדָּבָרet-had/da/VARthe wordהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himאַשְׁרֵיash/REblessed isהָאֹכֵלha/o/KHELwho eatsלֶחֶםLE/chembreadבְּמַלְכוּתbe/mal/KHUTin the kingdom ofהָאֱלֹהִים׃ha/e/lo/HIMGod

    And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these things, he said unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.

16. 16

    וְהוּאve/HUand heאָמַרa/MARsaidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himאִישׁisha manאֶחָדe/CHADoneעָשָׂהa/SAmadeסְעוּדָהse/u/DAa supperגְדוֹלָהge/do/LAgreatוַיִּקְרָאvay/yik/RAand invitedלָרַבִּים׃la/rab/BIMmany

    Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many:

17. 17

    וַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand sentאֶת־עַבְדּוֹet-av/DOhis servantלְעֵתle/ETat the time ofהַסְּעוּדָהhas/se/u/DAthe mealאֶל־הַקְּרוּאִיםel-hak/ke/ru/IMto the invitedלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingבֹּאוּBO/ucomeכִּי־הַכֹּלki-hak/KOLfor allמוּכָן׃mu/KHANis ready

    And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready.

18. 18

    וַיָּחֵלּוּvay/ya/CHEL/luand beganכֻלָּםkhul/LAMall of themיַחְדָּוyach/DAVtogetherלְהִתְנַצֵּלle/hit/nats/TSELto excuse themselvesוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himהָרִאשׁוֹןha/ri/SHONthe firstשָׂדֶהsa/DEa fieldקָנִיתִיka/NI/tiI have boughtוְעָלַיve/a/LAYand I mustלָצֵאתla/TSETgo outלִרְאֹתוֹlir/o/TOto see itאֲבַקֵּשׁa/vak/KESHI askמִמְּךָmim/me/KHAof youנַקֵּנִי׃nak/KE/niexcuse me

    And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused.

19. 19

    וְאַחֵרve/a/CHERand anotherאָמָרa/MARsaidחֲמֵשֶׁתcha/ME/shetfiveצִמְדֵי־בָקָרtsim/DE-va/KARyoke of oxenקָנִיתִיka/NI/tiI have boughtוַאֲנִיva/a/NIand Iהֹלֵךְho/LEKHam goingלִבְחֹןliv/CHONto testאוֹתָםo/TAMthemאֲבַקֵּשׁa/vak/KESHI askמִמְּךָmim/me/KHAof youנַקֵּנִי׃nak/KE/niexcuse me

    And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused.

20. 20

    וְאַחֵרve/a/CHERand anotherאָמָרa/MARsaidאִשָּׁהish/SHAa wifeלָקַחְתִּיla/KACH/tiI have takenוּבִגְלַלu/vig/LALand because ofהַדָּבָרhad/da/VARthe matterהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisלֹאlonotאוּכַלu/KHALI canלָבוֹא׃la/VOcome

    And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.

21. 21

    וַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameהָעֶבֶדha/E/vedthe servantוַיַּגֵּדvay/yag/GEDand toldאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםet-had/de/va/RIMthe wordsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseלַאדֹנָיוla/do/NAYVto his masterוַיִּקְצֹףvay/yik/TSOFand was angryבַּעַלBA/althe master ofהַבַּיִתhab/BA/yitthe houseוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֶל־עַבְדּוֹel-av/DOto his servantמַהֵרma/HERquicklyצֵאtsego outאֶל־רְחֹבוֹתel-re/cho/VOTto the squares ofהָעִירha/IRthe cityוְאֶל־חוּצוֹתֶיהָve/EL-chu/tso/te/HAand to its streetsוְהָבֵאve/ha/VEand bringהֵנָּהHEN/nahereאֶת־הָעֲנִיִּיםet-ha/a/niy/YIMthe poorוְאֶת־הַקִּטְּעִיםve/ET-hak/kit/te/IMand the maimedוְאֶת־הַפִּסְחִיםve/ET-hap/pis/CHIMand the haltוְאֶת־הָעִוְרִים׃ve/ET-ha/iv/RIMand the blind

    So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind.

22. 22

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהָעֶבֶדha/E/vedthe servantאֲדֹנִיa/do/NImy lordכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasצִוִּיתָtsiv/VI/tayou commandedכֵּןkensoנַעֲשָׂהna/a/SAit is doneוְיֶשׁ־עוֹדve/YESH-odand there is stillמָקוֹם׃ma/KOMroom

    And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room.

23. 23

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהָאָדוֹןha/a/DONthe masterאֶל־הָעֶבֶדel-ha/E/vedto the servantצֵאtsego outאֶל־הַדְּרָכִיםel-had/de/ra/KHIMto the roadsוְאֶל־הַגְּדֵרוֹתve/EL-hag/ge/de/ROTand to the hedgesוּפְצֹרu/fe/TSORand urgeבָּהֶםba/HEMthemלָבוֹאla/VOto come inלְמַעַןle/MA/anso thatיִמָּלֵאyim/MA/lemay be filledבֵיתִי׃ve/TImy house

    And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.

24. 24

    כִּיkiforאֲנִיa/NIIאֹמֵרo/MERsayלָכֶםla/KHEMto youאֵיןennotאֶחָדe/CHADoneמִן־הָאֲנָשִׁיםmin-ha/a/na/SHIMof those menהַקְּרוּאִיםhak/ke/ru/IMwho were invitedהָהֵםha/HEMthoseאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoיִטְעַםyit/AMwill tasteסְעוּדָתִי׃se/u/da/TImy supper

    For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper.

25. 25

    וַהֲמוֹןva/ha/MONand crowds ofעַם־רָבam-ravmany peopleהֹלְכִיםhol/KHIMwentאִתּוֹit/TOwith himוַיִּפֶןvay/YI/fenand he turnedוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֲלֵיהֶם׃a/le/HEMto them

    And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto them,

26. 26

    אִישׁisha manכִּי־יָבוֹאki-ya/VOif comesאֵלַיe/LAYto meוְלֹאve/LOand notיִשְׂנָאyis/NAhateאֶת־אָבִיוet-a/VIVhis fatherוְאֶת־אִמּוֹve/ET-im/MOand his motherוְאֶת־אִשְׁתּוֹve/ET-ish/TOand his wifeוְאֶת־בָּנָיוve/ET-ba/NAYVand his childrenוְאֶת־אֶחָיוve/ET-e/CHAYVand his brothersוְאֶת־אַחְיֹתָיוve/ET-ach/yo/TAYVand his sistersוְאַףve/AFand evenגַּם־אֶת־נַפְשׁוֹgam-et-naf/SHOalso his soulלֹאlonotיוּכַלyu/KHALcan heלִהְיוֹתlih/YOTbeתַּלְמִידִי׃tal/mi/DImy disciple

    If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

27. 27

    וַאֲשֶׁרva/a/SHERand whoeverלֹאlodoes notיִשָּׂאyis/SAcarryאֶת־צְלוּבוֹet-tse/lu/VOhis crossוּבָאu/VAand comeאַחֲרָיa/cha/RAYafter meלֹאlonotיוּכַלyu/KHALcan heלִהְיוֹתlih/YOTbeתַּלְמִידִי׃tal/mi/DImy disciple

    And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.

28. 28

    כִּיkiforמִיmiwhoמִכֶּםmik/KEMof youהֶחָפֵץhe/cha/FETSdesiringלִבְנוֹתliv/NOTto buildמִגְדָּלmig/DALa towerלֹאlodoes notיֵשֵׁבye/SHEVsitרִאשׁוֹנָהri/sho/NAfirstוִיחַשֵּׁבvi/chash/SHEVand calculateאֶת־הַהוֹצָאוֹתet-ha/ho/tsa/OTthe costsאִם־הַשֵּׂגim-has/SEGwhether reachתַּשִּׂיגtas/SIGwill reachיָדוֹya/DOhis handלְהַשְׁלִימוֹ׃le/hash/li/MOto finish it

    For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?

29. 29

    פֶּן־יְיַסֵּדpen-ye/yas/SEDlest he lay foundationוְלֹא־יוּכַלve/LO-yu/KHALand cannotלְכַלֹּתוֹle/khal/lo/TOto finish itוְהָיָהve/ha/YAand it will beכׇּל־רֹאָיוkol-ro/AYVall who see himיָקוּמוּya/KU/muwill riseוְלָעֲגוּ־לוֹve/la/a/GU-loand mock himלֵאמֹר׃le/MORsaying

    Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him,

30. 30

    הָאִישׁha/ISHthe manהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisהֵחֵלhe/CHELbeganלִבְנוֹתliv/NOTto buildוְלֹאve/LOand notיָכֹלya/KHOLcouldלְכַלּוֹת׃le/khal/LOTto finish

    Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.

31. 31

    אוֹoorמִי־הוּאmi-huwho isהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhkingהַקָּםhak/KAMwho risesלְהִתְגָּרוֹתle/hit/ga/ROTto engageמִלְחָמָהmil/cha/MAwarבְּמֶלֶךְbe/ME/lekhagainst a kingאַחֵרa/CHERanotherוְלֹאve/LOdoes notיֵשֵׁבye/SHEVsits downבָּרִאשׁוֹנָהba/ri/sho/NAfirstוְיִתְיָעֵץve/yit/ya/ETSand take counselאִם־יוּכַלim-yu/KHALwhether he be ableלַעֲרֹךְla/a/ROKHto arrayבַּעֲשֶׂרֶתba/a/SE/retwith tenאֲלָפִיםa/la/FIMthousandלִקְרַאתlik/RATagainstהַבָּאhab/BAwho comesעָלָיוa/LAYVagainst himבְּעֶשְׂרִיםbe/es/RIMwith twentyאָלֶף׃A/lefthousand

    Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?

32. 32

    וְאִם־לֹאve/IM-loand if notיוּכַלyu/KHALhe canוְשָׁלַחve/sha/LACHhe sendsאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himמַלְאָכִיםmal/a/KHIMmessengersבְּעוֹדֶנּוּbe/o/DEN/nuwhile he is stillמֵרָחוֹקme/ra/CHOKfar offלְבַקֵּשׁle/vak/KESHto askשָׁלוֹם׃sha/LOMpeace

    Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace.

33. 33

    וְכֵןve/KHENand soכׇּל־אִישׁkol-ishevery manמִכֶּםmik/KEMof youאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoלֹא־יַעֲזֹבlo-ya/a/ZOVdoes not leaveכׇּל־קִנְיָנָיוkol-kin/ya/NAYVall his possessionsלֹאlonotיוּכַלyu/KHALcan heלִהְיוֹתlih/YOTbeתַּלְמִידִי׃tal/mi/DImy disciple

    So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.

34. 34

    טוֹבtovgoodהַמֶּלַחham/ME/lachis the saltוְאִםve/IMand ifהַמֶּלַחham/ME/lachthe saltהָיָהha/YAhas becomeתָפֵלta/FELtastelessבַּמֶּהbam/MEwith whatיֻמְלָח׃yum/LACHshall it be seasoned

    Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned?

35. 35

    גַּםgamneitherלָאֲדָמָהla/a/da/MAfor the soilגַּםgamnorלַדֹּמֶןlad/DO/menfor the manureלֹאlonotיִצְלַחyits/LACHis it fitהַחוּצָהha/CHU/tsaoutsideיַשְׁלִיכֻהוּyash/li/khu/HUthey throw itמִיmiwhoeverאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatאׇזְנַיִםoz/NA/yimearsלוֹlohasלִשְׁמֹעַlish/MO/ato hearיִשְׁמָע׃yish/MAlet him hear

    It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
