1. 1

   וַיָּבֹאוּAnd there cameאֲנָשִׁיםmenבָּעֵתat seasonהַהִיאthatוַיַּגִּידוּand toldלוֹhimאֶת־דְּבַרconcerningהַגְּלִילִיםthe Galilaeans,אֲשֶׁרwhoseעֵרַבhad mingledפִּילָטוֹסPilateדָּמָםbloodעִם־זִבְחֵיהֶם׃with their sacrifices.

   There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilæans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.

2. 2

   וַיַּעַןAnd answeredיֵשׁוּעַJesusוַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,הַאֹמְרִיםThinkאַתֶּםyouשֶׁהַגְּלִילִיםthat Galilaeansהָאֵלֶּהtheseהָיוּwereחַטָּאִיםsinnersמִכׇּל־אַנְשֵׁיabove all the men ofהַגָּלִילGalilee,כִּיbecauseמְצָאָםthey sufferedכַּדָּבָרthingsהַזֶּה׃such?

   And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilæans were sinners above all the Galilæans, because they suffered such things?

3. 3

   לֹאNay,כִּי־אֹמֵרbut tellאֲנִיIלָכֶםyou,אִם־לֹאexceptתָשׁוּבוּyou repent,גַּם־אַתֶּםyouכֻּלְּכֶםallתֹּאבֵדוּ׃shall likewise perish.

   I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

4. 4

   אוֹOrשְׁמֹנָה־הֶעָשָׂרeighteen,הָהֵםthoseאֲשֶׁרwhomנָפַלfellעֲלֵיהֶםupon them,הַמִּגְדָּלthe towerבְּשִׁלּחַin Siloamוַיְמִיתֵםand slew them,הַאֹמְרִיםthinkאַתֶּםyouשֶׁהָיוּthat they wereאֲשֵׁמִיםsinnersמִכׇּל־הָאֲנָשִׁיםabove all menהַיֹּשְׁבִיםthat dweltבִּירוּשָׁלָיִם׃in Jerusalem?

   Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?

5. 5

   לֹאNay,כִּי־אֹמֵרbut tellאֲנִיIלָכֶםyou,אִם־לֹאexceptתָשׁוּבוּyou repent,גַּם־אַתֶּםyouכֻּלְּכֶםallתֹּאבֵדוּ׃shall likewise perish.

   I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

6. 6

   וַיִּשָּׂאAnd he spakeמְשָׁלוֹthis parable;וַיֹּאמַרand said,אִישׁA manאֶחָדcertainהָיְתָה־לּוֹhadתְאֵנָהa fig treeנְטוּעָהplantedבְכַרְמוֹin his vineyard;וַיָּבֹאand he cameלְבַקֶּשׁ־בָּהּand sought on itפְּרִיfruit,וְלֹאandמָצָא׃found none.

   He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none.

7. 7

   וַיֹּאמֶרThen said heאֶל־הַכֹּרֵםunto the dresser of his vineyard,הִנֵּה־זֶהBehold,שָׁלשׁthese threeשָׁנִיםyearsאָנֹכִיIבָאcomeלְבַקֵּשׁseekingפְּרִיfruitבַּתְּאֵנָהon fig tree,הַזֹּאתthisוְלֹאandמָצָאתִיfind none:כְּרֹתcutאוֹתָהּit down;לָמָּה־זֶּהwhyתַשְׁחִיתcumbereth itאֵת־הָאֲדָמָה׃the ground?

   Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground?

8. 8

   וַיַּעַןAnd he answeredוַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֵלָיוunto him,אֲדֹנִיLord,הַנִּיחָהlet aloneאֹתָהּitעוֹדalsoהַשָּׁנָהyear,הַזֹּאתthisעַדtillאֲשֶׁר־עֲזַקְתִּיהָI shall dig about it,וְשַׂמְתִּיand putדֹמֶןdungלָהּ׃to it:

   And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it:

9. 9

   אוּלַיAnd ifתַּעֲשֶׂהit bearפֶרִיfruit,וְאִם־לֹאwell: and if not,תַעֲשֶׂהit bear,וְכָרַתָּthen you shall cut downאֹתָהּit.בַּשָּׁנָהin yearהָאֲחֶרֶת׃the next.

   And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down.

10. 10

    וַיְהִיAndהוּאheמְלַמֵּדwas teachingבְּיוֹםon day:הַשַּׁבָּתthe sabbathבְּבֵיתin one ofכְּנֵסֶתthe synagoguesאֶחָד׃one

    And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath.

11. 11

    וְהִנֵּהAnd, behold,אִשָּׁהthere was a womanאֲשֶׁרwhichבָּהּhadרוּחַ־חֳלִיa spirit of infirmityכִּשְׁמֹנֶהeightעֶשְׂרֵהand tenשָׁנָהyears,וְהִיאand she wasכְפוּפָהbowed together,וְלֹאand couldיָכְלָהin no wiseלָקוּםto standקוֹמָהstatureזְקוּפָה׃upright.

    And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself.

12. 12

    וַיַּרְאAnd when sawיֵשׁוּעַJesusוַיִּקְרָאher, he calledאֵלֶיהָher to him,וַיֹּאמֶרand saidלָהּunto her,אִשָּׁהWoman,הֵחָלְצִיyou are loosedמֵחָלְיֵךְ׃from your infirmity.

    And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity.

13. 13

    וַיָּשֶׂםAnd he laidיָדָיוhis handsעָלֶיהָon her:וּכְרֶגַעand immediatelyקָמָהshe was madeוַתִּתְעוֹדָדstraight,וַתְּשַׁבַּחand glorifiedאֶת־הָאֱלֹהִים׃God.

    And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.

14. 14

    וַיִּכְעַסAnd answered with indignation,רֹאשׁthe ruler ofהַכְּנֵסֶתthe synagogueעַל־אֲשֶׁרbecause thatרִפָּאhad healedיֵשׁוּעַJesusבַּשַּׁבָּתon the sabbath day,וַיַּעַןand answeredוַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֶל־הָעָםunto the people,שֵׁשֶׁתsixיָמִיםdaysהֵםThere areאֲשֶׁרin whichתֵּעָשֶׂהought to be done:בָהֶםthereinמְלָאכָהworkבָּאֵלֶּהin them thereforeבֹּאוּcomeוְהֵרָפְאוּand be healed,וְלֹאand notבְּיוֹםon day.הַשַּׁבָּת׃the sabbath

    And the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because that Jesus had healed on the sabbath day, and said unto the people, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath day.

15. 15

    וַיַּעַןThen answeredהָאָדוֹןthe Lordוַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֵלָיוunto him,הֶחָנֵףYou hypocrite,הֲלֹאdoth notיַתִּירlooseאִישׁevery manמִכֶּםof youבַּשַּׁבָּתon the sabbathאֶת־שׁוֹרוֹhis oxאוֹorאֶת־חֲמֹרוֹhis assמִן־הָאֵבוּסfrom the stall,וְיוֹלִיכֵהוּand lead him awayלְהַשְׁקֹתוֹ׃to watering?

    The Lord then answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering?

16. 16

    וְזֹאתAnd ought not this woman,אֲשֶׁרwhichהִיאsheבַּת־אַבְרָהָםbeing a daughter of Abraham,וַאֲשֶׁרwhomהַשָּׂטָןSatanאֲסָרָהּhath bound,זֶהlo,שְׁמֹנֶה־עֶשְׂרֵהeighteenשָׁנָהyears,הֲלֹאshould she notתֻתַּרbe loosedמִמּוֹסְרוֹתֶיהָfrom this bondבְּיוֹםon day?הַשַּׁבָּת׃the sabbath

    And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?

17. 17

    וַיְהִיAnd whenכְּאׇמְרוֹhe had saidאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםthings,הָאֵלֶּהtheseנִכְלְמוּwere ashamed:כׇּל־מִתְקוֹמֲמָיוall his adversariesוַיִּשְׂמַחand rejoicedכׇּל־הָעָםall the peopleעַל־כׇּל־הַנִּפְלָאוֹתfor all the glorious thingsהַנַּעֲשׂוֹתthat were doneעַל־יָדוֹ׃by him.

    And when he had said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.

18. 18

    וַיֹּאמַרThen said he,לְמָהUnto whatדוֹמָהis likeמַלְכוּתthe kingdom ofהָאֱלֹהִיםGod?וְאֶל־מָהand whereuntoאַמְשִׁילֶנָּה׃shall I resemble it?

    Then said he, Unto what is the kingdom of God like? and whereunto shall I resemble it?

19. 19

    דּוֹמָהIt is likeהִיאuntoלְגַרְגַּרa grainשֶׁל־חַרְדָּלof mustard seed,אֲשֶׁרwhichלְקָחוֹtook,אִישׁa manוַיְשִׂימֵהוּand castבְגַנּוֹinto his garden;וַיִּצְמַחand it grew,וַיְהִיand waxedלְעֵץa treeגָּדוֹלgreat;וְעוֹףand the fowls ofהַשָּׁמַיִםthe airיְקַנֵּןlodgedבַּעֲנָפָיו׃in the branches of it.

    It is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and cast into his garden; and it grew, and waxed a great tree; and the fowls of the air lodged in the branches of it.

20. 20

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd saidעוֹדagain,אֶל־מָהWhereuntoאֲדַמֶּהshall I likenאֵת־מַלְכוּתthe kingdom ofהָאֱלֹהִים׃God?

    And again he said, Whereunto shall I liken the kingdom of God?

21. 21

    דּוֹמָהIt is likeהִיאuntoלִשְׂאֹרleaven,אֲשֶׁרwhichלְקָחַתּוּtookאִשָּׁהa womanוַתִּטְמְנֵהוּand hidבִּשְׁלשׁin threeסְאִיםmeasures ofקֶמַחmeal,עַדtillאֲשֶׁר־יֶחְמַץwas leavened.כֻּלּוֹ׃the whole

    It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.

22. 22

    וַיַּעֲבֹרAnd he wentבֶּעָרִיםthrough the citiesוּבַכְּפָרִיםand villages,עָבוֹרpassingוְלַמֵּדand teaching,וַיֵּלֶךְand journeyingלְדַרְכּוֹon his wayלָבוֹאtowardיְרוּשָׁלָיִם׃Jerusalem.

    And he went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem.

23. 23

    וַיִּשְׁאָלֵהוּThen said unto himאִישׁone,לֵאמֹרsaying,אֲדֹנֵינוּLord,הַמְעַטare there fewהֵםthatהַנּוֹשָׁעִים׃be saved?

    Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them,

24. 24

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,הִתְאַמְּצוּStriveלָבוֹאto enter inבַּפֶּתַחat the gate:הַצָּרstraitכִּי־אֹמֵרfor tellאֲנִיIלָכֶםyou,רַבִּיםmany,יְבַקְשׁוּwill seekלָבוֹאto enter in,וְלֹאand shall notיוּכָלוּ׃be able.

    Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.

25. 25

    מִיּוֹםFrom the timeאֲשֶׁרwhenיָקוּםis risen upבַּעַלthe master ofהַבַּיִתthe house,וְסָגַרand hath shut toאֶת־הַדָּלֶתthe door,וְתָחֵלּוּand you beginלַעֲמֹדto standבַּחוּץwithout,וְלִדְפֹּקand to knockעַל־הַדֶּלֶתat the door,לֵאמֹרsaying,אֲדֹנֵינוּLord,פְּתַח־לָנוּopen unto us;וְעָנָהand he shall answerוְאָמַרand sayאֲלֵיכֶםunto you,אֵינֶנִּיI knowיוֹדֵעַnotאֶתְכֶםyouמֵאַיִןwhenceאַתֶּם׃you are:

    When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are:

26. 26

    אָזThenתָּחֵלּוּshall you beginלֵאמֹרto say,הֲלֹאsurelyאָכַלְנוּWe have eatenוְשָׁתִינוּand drunkלְפָנֶיךָin your presence,וּבִרְחֹבוֹתֵינוּand in our streetsלִמָּדְתָּ׃you have taught.

    Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets.

27. 27

    וְיֹאמַרBut he shall say,אֲנִיIאֹמֵרtellלָכֶםyou,אֵינֶנִּיI knowיוֹדֵעַnotאֶתְכֶםyouמֵאַיִןwhenceאַתֶּםyou are;סוּרוּdepartמִמֶּנִּיfrom me,כׇּל־פֹּעֲלֵיall you workers ofהָאָוֶן׃iniquity.

    But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity.

28. 28

    וְשָׁםThereתִּהְיֶהshall beהַיְלָלָהweepingוַחֲרֹקand gnashing ofהַשִּׁנָיִםteeth,כַּאֲשֶׁרwhenתִּרְאוּyou shall seeאֶת־אַבְרָהָםAbraham,וְיִצְחָקand Isaac,וְיַעֲקֹבand Jacob,וְאֶת־כׇּל־הַנְּבִיאִיםand all the prophets,בְּמַלְכוּתin the kingdom ofהָאֱלֹהִיםGod,וְאַתֶּםand youמְגֹרָשִׁיםyourselves thrustהַחוּצָה׃out.

    There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.

29. 29

    וְיָבֹאוּAnd they shall comeמִמִּזְרָחfrom the east,וּמִמַּעֲרָבand from the west,וּמִצָּפוֹןand from the north,וּמִדָּרוֹםand from the south,וְיָסֵבּוּand shall sit downבְּמַלְכוּתin the kingdom ofהָאֱלֹהִים׃God.

    And they shall come from the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God.

30. 30

    וְהִנֵּהAnd, behold,יֵשׁthere areאַחֲרוֹנִיםlastאֲשֶׁרwhichיִהְיוּshall beרִאשׁוֹנִיםfirst,וְרִאשׁוֹנִיםand there are firstאֲשֶׁרwhichיִהְיוּshall beאַחֲרוֹנִים׃last.

    And, behold, there are last which shall be first, and there are first which shall be last.

31. 31

    בַּיּוֹםOn dayהַהוּאthe sameנִגְּשׁוּthere cameמִן־הַפְּרוּשִׁיםcertain of the Pharisees,וַיֹּאמְרוּsayingאֵלָיוunto him,צֵאGet you out,וְלֵךְand departמִזֶּהhence:כִּיforהוֹרְדוֹסHerodמְבַקֵּשׁwillלְהׇרְגֶךָ׃kill you.

    The same day there came certain of the Pharisees, saying unto him, Get thee out, and depart hence: for Herod will kill thee.

32. 32

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,לְכוּGo you,וְאִמְרוּand tellאֶל־הַשּׁוּעָלfox,הַזֶּהthatהִנְנִיBehold, Iמְגָרֵשׁcast outשֵׁדִיםdevils,וּפֹעֵלand I doרְפוּאוֹתcuresהַיּוֹםto dayוּמָחָרand to morrow,וּבַיּוֹםand the dayהַשְּׁלִישִׁיthe thirdאָבֹאI shall beעַד־קִצִּי׃perfected.

    And he said unto them, Go ye, and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and I do cures to day and to morrow, and the third day I shall be perfected.

33. 33

    אֲבָלNeverthelessהָלוֹךְwalkאֵלֵךְI mustהַיּוֹםto day,וּמָחָרand to morrow,וּמִמׇּחֳרָתוֹand the day following:כִּיforלֹא־יִתָּכֵןit cannot beאֲשֶׁרthatיֹאבַדperishנָבִיאa prophetמִחוּץout ofלִירוּשָׁלָיִם׃Jerusalem.

    Nevertheless I must walk to day, and to morrow, and the day following: for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem.

34. 34

    יְרוּשָׁלַיִםO Jerusalem,יְרוּשָׁלַיִםJerusalem,הַהֹרֶגֶתwhich killestאֶת־הַנְּבִיאִיםthe prophets,וְהַסֹּקֶלֶתand stonestאֶת־הַנִּשְׁלָחִיםthem that are sentאֵלֶיהָunto you;כַּמֶּהhow manyפְעָמִיםtimesחָפַצְתִּיwould I haveלְקַבֵּץgatheredאֶת־בָּנַיִךְyour children together,כַּאֲשֶׁרasתְּקַבֵּץdoth gatherהַתַּרְנְגֹלֶתa henאֶת־אֶפְרוֹחֶיהָher broodתַּחַתunderכְּנָפֶיהָher wings,וְאַתֶּםand youלֹאwouldאֲבִיתֶם׃not!

    O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not!

35. 35

    הִנֵּהBehold,בֵיתְכֶםyour houseיֵעָזֵבis leftלָכֶםunto youשָׁמֵםdesolate:וַאֲנִיand verily Iאֹמֵרsayלָכֶםunto you,כִּי־רָאֹהYou shall surelyלֹאnotתִרְאוּנִיsee me,עַד־בּוֹאuntil comeהָעֵתthe timeאֲשֶׁרwhenתֹּאמְרוּyou shall say,בָּרוּךְBlessedהַבָּאis he that comethבְּשֵׁםin the name ofיְהוָֹה׃the LORD.

    Behold, your house is left unto you desolate: and verily I say unto you, Ye shall not see me, until the time come when ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
