   And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.

   And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.

   אֶת־לֶחֶםet-LE/chemthe bread ofחֻקֵּנוּchuk/ke/NUour portionתֶּן־לָנוּten-LA/nugive usיוֹםyomdayיוֹם׃yomby day

   Give us day by day our daily bread.

4. 4

   וּמְחַל־נָאu/me/CHAL-naand forgive nowעַל־חַטֹּאתֵנוּal-chat/to/TE/nuour sinsכִּיkiforמֹחְלִיםmoch/LIMforgiveגַּם־אֲנַחְנוּgam-a/NACH/nuwe alsoלְכֹלle/KHOLevery oneהַחַיָּבha/chay/YAVwho owesלָנוּLA/nuto usוְאַל־תְּבִיאֵנוּve/AL-te/vi/e/NUand do not bring usלִידֵיli/DEinto the hands ofנִסָּיוֹןnis/sa/YONtemptationכִּיkibutאִם־תְּחַלְּצֵנוּim-te/chal/le/tse/NUrather deliver usמִן־הָרָע׃min-ha/RAfrom evil

   And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themמִיmiwhoבָכֶםva/KHEMamong youאֲשֶׁר־לוֹa/SHER-lohasאֹהֵבo/HEVa friendוְהָלַךְve/ha/LAKHand goesוּבָאu/VAand comesאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himבַּחֲצוֹתba/cha/TSOTat the middle ofהַלַּיְלָהhal/LAY/lathe nightוְאָמַרve/a/MARand saysאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himיְדִידִיye/di/DImy friendהַלְוֵנִיhal/ve/NIlend meשְׁלֹשֶׁתshe/LO/shetthreeכִּכְּרוֹת־לָחֶם׃kik/ke/ROT-LA/chemloaves of bread

   And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves;

   כִּי־אֹהֲבִיki-o/ha/VIfor my friendבָּאbahas comeאֵלַיe/LAYto meמִן־הַדָּרֶךְmin-had/DA/rekhfrom the roadוְלִיve/LIand I haveאֵין־כֹּלen-kolnothingלָשׂוּםla/SUMto putלְפָנָיו׃le/fa/NAYVbefore him

   For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him?

   וְהוּאve/HUand heמִבַּיִתmib/BA/yitfrom insideיַעֲנֶהya/a/NEwill answerוְיֹאמַרve/yo/MARand sayאַל־תּוֹגִיעֵנִיal-to/gi/e/NIdo not weary meכִּי־כְבָרki-khe/VARfor alreadyנִסְגְּרָהnis/ge/RAis shutהַדֶּלֶתhad/DE/letthe doorוִילָדַיvi/la/DAYand my childrenשׁוֹכְבִיםshokh/VIMare lyingעִמָּדִיim/ma/DIwith meבַּמִּטָּהbam/mit/TAin bedלֹא־אוּכַלlo-u/KHALI cannotלָקוּםla/KUMriseוְלָתֶתve/LA/tetand giveלָךְ׃lakhto you

   And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee.

   אֹמֵרo/MERsayאֲנִיa/NIIלָכֶםla/KHEMto youגַּםgamevenכִּיkiifלֹא־יָקוּםlo-ya/KUMhe will not riseלָתֶת־לוֹLA/tet-loto give himעַל־הֱיוֹתוֹal-he/yo/TObecause he isאֹהֲבוֹo/ha/VOhis friendיָקוּםya/KUMhe will riseבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURbecause ofעַזּוּתaz/ZUTthe boldness ofפָּנָיוpa/NAYVhis faceוְיִתֶּן־לוֹve/yit/TEN-loand give himכְּכׇל־צׇרְכּוֹ׃ke/KHOL-tsor/KOas much as he needs

   I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth.

   וְגַם־אֲנִיve/GAM-a/NIand also Iאֹמֵרo/MERsayלָכֶםla/KHEMto youשַׁאֲלוּsha/a/LUaskוְיִנָּתֵןve/yin/NA/tenand it will be givenלָכֶםla/KHEMyouדִּרְשׁוּdir/SHUseekוְתִמְצָאוּve/tim/tsa/Uand you will findדִּפְקוּdif/KUknockוְיִפָּתַחve/yip/PA/tachand it will be openedלָכֶם׃la/KHEMto you

   And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

    כִּיkiforכׇּל־הַשֹּׁאֵלkol-hash/sho/ELeveryone who asksיְקַבֵּלye/kab/BELreceivesוְהַדֹּרֵשׁve/had/do/RESHand whoever seeksיִמְצָאyim/TSAfindsוְהַדֹּפֵקve/had/do/FEKand whoever knocksיִפָּתַח־לוֹ׃yip/PA/tach-loit will be opened to him

    For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

    וּמִיu/MIand whichבָּכֶםba/KHEMamong youהָאָבha/AVthe fatherאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatיִשְׁאַלyish/ALasksמִמֶּנּוּmim/MEN/nuof himבְּנוֹbe/NOhis sonלֶחֶםLE/chembreadהֲיִתֶּן־לוֹha/yit/TEN-lowill he give himאָבֶןA/vena stoneוְאִם־דָּגve/IM-dagor if a fishהֲיִתֶּן־לוֹha/yit/TEN-lowill he give himנָחָשׁna/CHASHa serpentתַּחַתTA/chatinstead ofהַדָּג׃had/DAGthe fish

    If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?

12. 12

    אוֹoorכִּי־יִשְׁאָלֶנּוּki-yish/a/len/NUif he shall ask himבֵיצָהve/TSAan eggהֲיִתֶּן־לוֹha/yit/TEN-lowill he give himעַקְרָב׃ak/RAVa scorpion

    Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?

13. 13

    הֵן־אַתֶּםhen-at/TEMbehold youהָרָעִיםha/ra/IMwho are evilיֹדְעִיםyod/IMknowלָתֵתla/TETto giveמַתָּנוֹתmat/ta/NOTgiftsטֹבוֹתto/VOTgoodלִבְנֵיכֶםliv/ne/KHEMto your childrenאַף־כִּיaf-kihow much moreהָאָבha/AVshall the Fatherמִן־הַשָּׁמַיִםmin-hash/sha/MA/yimfrom heavenיִתֵּןyit/TENwill giveאֶת־רוּחַ־הַקֹּדֶשׁet-RU/ach-hak/KO/deshthe Holy Spiritלַשֹּׁאֲלִיםlash/sho/a/LIMto them that askמֵאִתּוֹ׃me/it/TOof Him

    If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

14. 14

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passהַיּוֹםhay/YOMone dayוַיְגָרֶשׁvay/GA/reshand he was casting outשֵׁדsheda demonוְהוּאve/HUand it wasאִלֵּםil/LEMmuteוַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenיָצָאya/TSAwas gone outהַשֵּׁדhash/SHEDthe demonוַיְדַבֵּרvay/dab/BERspokeהָאִלֵּםha/il/LEMthe mute manוַיִּתְמְהוּvay/yit/me/HUand marveledהָעָם׃ha/AMthe people

    And he was casting out a devil, and it was dumb. And it came to pass, when the devil was gone out, the dumb spake; and the people wondered.

    וְיֵשׁve/YESHand there wereמֵהֶםme/HEMof themאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoאָמְרוּa/me/RUsaidבְּבַעַל־זְבוּלbe/VA/al-ze/VULthrough Beelzebubשַׂרsarthe chief ofהַשֵּׁדִיםhash/she/DIMthe demonsהוּאhuheמְגָרֵשׁme/ga/RESHcasts outאֶת־הַשֵּׁדִים׃et-hash/she/DIMthe demons

    But some of them said, He casteth out devils through Beelzebub the chief of the devils.

16. 16

    וְיֵשׁve/YESHand there wereאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoנִסּוּהוּnis/su/HUtesting himוַיִּשְׁאֲלוּvay/yish/a/LUaskedמִמֶּנּוּmim/MEN/nuof himאוֹתota signמִן־הַשָּׁמָיִם׃min-hash/sha/MA/yimfrom heaven

    And others, tempting him, sought of him a sign from heaven.

17. 17

    וְהוּאve/HUbut heיָדַעya/DAknewאֶת־מַחְשְׁבוֹתָםet-mach/she/vo/TAMtheir thoughtsוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themכׇּל־מַמְלָכָהkol-mam/la/KHAevery kingdomהַנֶּחֱלָקָהhan/ne/che/la/KAdividedעַל־עַצְמָהּal-ats/MAagainst itselfתֵּחָרֵבte/cha/REVis laid wasteוּבַיִתu/VA/yitand a houseעַל־בַּיִתal-BA/yitagainst a houseיִפֹּל׃yip/POLfalls

    But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth.

18. 18

    וְגַם־הַשָּׂטָןve/GAM-has/sa/TANand also Satanאִם־נֶחֱלַקim-ne/che/LAKif he is dividedעַל־עַצְמוֹal-ats/MOagainst himselfאֵיכָכָהe/KHA/khahowתִּכּוֹןtik/KONwill standמַמְלַכְתּוֹmam/lakh/TOhis kingdomכִּיkiforאֲמַרְתֶּםa/mar/TEMyou sayשֶׁבְּבַעַל־זְבוּלsheb/Be/VA/al-ze/VULthat by Beelzebubמְגָרֵשׁme/ga/RESHcast outאֲנִיa/NIIאֶת־הַשֵּׁדִים׃et-hash/she/DIMthe demons

    If Satan also be divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? because ye say that I cast out devils through Beelzebub.

19. 19

    וְאִם־אֲנִיve/IM-a/NIand if Iמְגָרֵשׁme/ga/RESHcast outאֶת־הַשֵּׁדִיםet-hash/she/DIMthe demonsבְּבַעַל־זְבוּלbe/VA/al-ze/VULby Beelzebubבְּנֵיכֶםbe/ne/KHEMby your sonsבְּמִיbe/MIby whomהֵםhemtheyמְגָרֲשִׁיםme/ga/ra/SHIMcast outאֹתָםo/TAMthemעַל־כֵּןal-kenthereforeהֵמָּהHEM/matheyיִהְיוּyih/YUwill beשֹׁפְטֵיכֶם׃shof/te/KHEMyour judges

    And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your sons cast them out? therefore shall they be your judges.

20. 20

    וְאִם־בְּאֶצְבַּעve/IM-be/ets/BAand if by the finger ofאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodמְגָרֵשׁme/ga/RESHcast outאֲנִיa/NIIאֶת־הַשֵּׁדִיםet-hash/she/DIMthe demonsהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdהִגִּיעָהhig/gi/Ahas comeאֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMupon youמַלְכוּתmal/KHUTthe kingdom ofהָאֱלֹהִים׃ha/e/lo/HIMGod

    But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you.

21. 21

    כְּשֶׁהַגִּבּוֹרke/she/hag/gib/BORwhen the mighty manשֹׁמֵרsho/MERguardsאֶת־חֲצֵרוֹet-cha/tse/ROhis courtוְנִשְׁקוֹve/nish/KOand his weaponsעָלָיוa/LAYVon himשָׁלוֹםsha/LOMin peaceיִהְיֶהyih/YEwill beרְכוּשׁוֹ׃re/khu/SHOhis goods

    When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace:

22. 22

    וְאִם־יָבוֹאve/IM-ya/VOand if comesעָלָיוa/LAYVupon himחָזָקcha/ZAKone strongerמִמֶּנּוּmim/MEN/nuthan heוּתְקָפוֹu/te/ka/FOand overpowers himיִשָּׂאyis/SAhe takesמִמֶּנּוּmim/MEN/nufrom himאֶת־נִשְׁקוֹet-nish/KOhis weaponsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatבָּטַח־בּוֹBA/tach-bohe trusted inוְאֶת־מַלְקֹחוֹve/ET-mal/ko/CHOand his plunderיְחַלֵּק׃ye/chal/LEKhe divides

    But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils.

23. 23

    כֹּלkolallאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoאֵינֶנּוּe/NEN/nuis notאִתִּיit/TIwith meהוּאhuisלְנֶגְדִּיle/neg/DIagainst meוַאֲשֶׁרva/a/SHERand whoeverאֵינֶנּוּe/NEN/nudoes notמְכַנֵּסme/khan/NESgathersאִתִּיit/TIwith meהוּאhuheמְפַזֵּר׃me/faz/ZERscatters

    He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth.

    הָרוּחַha/RU/achthe spiritהַטְּמֵאָהhat/te/me/Auncleanאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterצֵאתָהּtse/TAit goes outמִן־הָאָדָםmin-ha/a/DAMfrom the manתְּשׁוֹטֵטte/sho/TETroamsבִּמְקֹמוֹתbim/ko/MOTthrough placesצִיָּהtsiy/YAdryלְבַקֶּשׁ־לָהּle/vak/KESH-laseeking for itselfמָנוֹחַma/NO/achrestוְלֹאve/LOand notתִמְצָאtim/TSAfindingאָזazthenתֹּאמַרto/MARit saysאָשׁוּבָה־נָּאa/SHU/va-naI will return nowאֶל־בֵּיתִיel-be/TIto my houseאֲשֶׁרa/SHERfrom whichיָצָאתִיya/TSA/tiI came outמִשָּׁם׃mish/SHAMfrom there

    When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out.

    וּבְבוֹאָהּu/ve/vo/Aand when it comesתִּמְצָאtim/TSAit findsאֹתוֹo/TOitמְטֻאטָאme/tu/TAsweptוּמְהֻדָּר׃u/me/hud/DARand adorned

    And when he cometh, he findeth it swept and garnished.

26. 26

    וְאַחַרve/a/CHARthenתֵּלֵךְte/LEKHit goesוְלָקְחָהve/la/ke/CHAand takesשֶׁבַעSHE/vasevenרוּחוֹתru/CHOTspiritsאֲחֵרוֹתa/che/ROTotherרָעוֹתra/OTevilמִמֶּנָּהmim/MEN/namore than itselfוּבָאוּu/VA/uand they enterוְשָׁכְנוּve/sha/khe/NUand dwellשָׁםshamthereוְהָיְתָהve/ha/ye/TAand will beאַחֲרִיתa/cha/RITthe end ofהָאָדָםha/a/DAMthe manהַהוּאha/HUthatרָעָהra/Aworseמֵרֵאשִׁיתוֹ׃me/re/shi/TOthan his beginning

    Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכְּדַבְּרוֹke/dab/be/ROas he spokeאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםet-had/de/va/RIMthe wordsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseוְאִשָּׁהve/ish/SHAa certain womanאַחַתa/CHAToneמִן־הָעָםmin-ha/AMof the peopleנָשְׂאָהna/se/Alifted upאֶת־קוֹלָהּet-ko/LAher voiceוַתֹּאמֶרvat/TO/merand saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himאַשְׁרֵיash/REblessed isהַבֶּטֶןhab/BE/tenthe wombאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatנְשָׂאַתְךָne/sa/at/KHAcarried youוְאַשְׁרֵיve/ash/REand blessed areהַשָּׁדַיִםhash/sha/DA/yimthe breastsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatיָנָקְתָּ׃ya/nak/TAyou nursed

    And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked.

28. 28

    וְהוּאve/HUand heאָמָרa/MARsaidוְאַףve/AFand evenכִּי־אַשְׁרֵיki-ash/RErather blessed areהַשֹּׁמְעִיםhash/shom/IMthose who hearוְהַשֹּׁמְרִיםve/hash/shom/RIMand keepאֵת־דְּבַרet-de/VARthe word ofהָאֱלֹהִים׃ha/e/lo/HIMGod

    But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.

29. 29

    וּבְהִקָּבֵץu/ve/hik/ka/VETSand when gatheredעַם־רָבam-ravmany peopleוַיִּפְתַּחvay/yif/TACHhe openedפִּיוpivhis mouthוַיֹּאמַרvay/yo/MARand saidהַדּוֹרhad/DORthe generationהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisדּוֹרdora generationרָעraevilהוּאhuit isאוֹתota signהוּאhuitמְבַקֵּשׁme/vak/KESHseekוְאוֹתve/OTand a signלֹאlonotיִנָּתֶן־לוֹyin/NA/ten-lowill be given to itבִּלְתִּיbil/TIexceptאִם־אוֹתim-otthe sign ofיוֹנָהYo/NAJonasהַנָּבִיא׃han/na/VIthe prophet

    And when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet.

30. 30

    כִּיkiforכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasהָיָהha/YAwasיוֹנָהYo/NAJonasלְאַנְשֵׁיle/an/SHEto the men ofנִינְוֵהNi/ne/VENineveלְאוֹתle/OTa signכֵּןkensoיִהְיֶהyih/YEwill beגַם־בֶּן־הָאָדָםgam-ben-Ha/a/DAMalso the Son of manלַדּוֹרlad/DORto the generationהַזֶּה׃haz/ZEthis

    For as Jonas was a sign unto the Ninevites, so shall also the Son of man be to this generation.

31. 31

    מַלְכַּתmal/KATthe queen ofתֵּימָןte/MANthe southתַּעֲמֹדta/a/MODwill standלַמִּשְׁפָּטlam/mish/PATin the judgmentעִם־אַנְשֵׁיim-an/SHEwith the men ofהַדּוֹרhad/DORthe generationהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisוְהִרְשִׁיעָהve/hir/shi/Aand condemnאוֹתָםo/TAMthemכִּיkiforבָאָהva/Ashe cameמִקְצוֹתmik/TSOTfrom the ends ofהָאָרֶץha/A/retsthe earthלִשְׁמֹעַlish/MO/ato hearאֶת־חׇכְמַתet-chokh/MATthe wisdom ofשְׁלֹמֹהShe/lo/MOSolomonוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdיֶשׁ־פֹּהyesh-pothere is hereגָּדוֹלga/DOLa greaterמִשְּׁלֹמֹה׃mish/She/lo/MOthan Solomon

    The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and condemn them: for she came from the utmost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.

32. 32

    אַנְשֵׁיan/SHEthe men ofנִינְוֵהNi/ne/VENineveיַעַמְדוּya/am/DUwill standלַמִּשְׁפָּטlam/mish/PATin the judgmentעִם־הַדּוֹרim-had/DORwith the generationהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisוְהִרְשִׁיעֻהוּve/hir/shi/u/HUand will condemn itכִּיkiforהֵםhemtheyשָׁבוּSHA/vuturnedבִּקְרִיאַתbik/ri/ATat the proclaiming ofיוֹנָהYo/NAJonasוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdיֶשׁ־פֹּהyesh-pothere is hereגָּדוֹלga/DOLa greaterמִיוֹנָה׃mi/Vo/NAthan Jonas

    The men of Nineve shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.

33. 33

    אֵיןenno oneמַדְלִיק־נֵרmad/LIK-nerwho lights a lampלָשׂוּםla/SUMputs itבַּסֵּתֶרbas/SE/terin a secret placeאוֹ־תַחַתo-TA/chator underהָאֵיפָהha/e/FAthe measureכִּיkibutיְשִׂמֵהוּye/si/me/HUhe puts itעַלalonהַמְּנוֹרָהham/me/no/RAthe lampstandלְמַעַןle/MA/anso thatיִרְאוּyir/Umay seeבָּאֵיba/Ethose who enterהַבַּיִתhab/BA/yitthe houseאֶת־אוֹרוֹ׃et-o/ROthe light

    No man, when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they which come in may see the light.

34. 34

    נֵרnerthe lamp ofהַגּוּףhag/GUFthe bodyהוּאhuisהָעָיִןha/A/yinthe eyeלָכֵןla/KHENthereforeעֵינְךָe/ne/KHAyour eyeכִּי־תִהְיֶהki-tih/YEwhen isתְמִימָהte/mi/MAwholeגַּםgamalsoכׇּל־גּוּפְךָkol-guf/KHAyour whole bodyיֵאוֹרye/ORis litוּבִהְיוֹתָהּu/vih/yo/TAand when it isרָעָהra/Aevilוְחָשַׁךְve/cha/SHAKHand is darkגַּם־גּוּפֶךָ׃gam-gu/fe/KHAyour body also

    The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness.

35. 35

    עַל־כֵּןal-kenthereforeהִשָּׁמֶר־לָךְhish/SHA/mer-lakhbewareפֶּן־יֶחְשַׁךְpen-yech/SHAKHlest is darknessהָאוֹרha/ORthe lightאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatבְּקִרְבֶּךָ׃be/kir/BE/khais in you

    Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.

36. 36

    וְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdאִם־גּוּפְךָim-guf/KHAif your bodyכֻּלּוֹkul/LOall of itאוֹרoris lightוְאֵיןve/ENand there is notבּוֹboin itכׇּל־דְּבַר־חֹשֶׁךְkol-de/VAR-CHO/shekhanything of darknessאָזazthenיֵאוֹרye/ORwill be litכֻּלּוֹkul/LOall of itכְּאִלּוּke/il/LUas ifיָאִירya/IRlightsלְךָle/KHAto youהַנֵּרhan/NERthe lampבִּבְרַקbiv/RAKwith the flash ofנׇגְהוֹ׃nog/HOits brightness

    If thy whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle doth give thee light.

37. 37

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passבְדַבְּרוֹve/dab/be/ROas he spokeוַיְבַקֵּשׁvay/vak/KESHaskedמִמֶּנּוּmim/MEN/nuhimפָּרוּשׁPa/RUSHa Phariseeאֶחָדe/CHADoneלֶאֱכֹלle/e/KHOLto eatאִתּוֹit/TOwith himלָחֶםLA/chembreadוַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand he went inהַבַּיְתָהhab/BAY/tainto the houseוַיַּסֵּב׃vay/yas/SEVand reclined

    And as he spake, a certain Pharisee besought him to dine with him: and he went in, and sat down to meat.

38. 38

    וַיַּרְאvay/YARand sawהַפָּרוּשׁhap/Pa/RUSHthe Phariseeוַיִּתְמַהּvay/yit/MAand marveledאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatלֹא־נָטַלlo-na/TALhe had not washedיָדָיוya/DAYVhis handsרִאשׁוֹנָהri/sho/NAfirstלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeהַסְּעוּדָה׃has/se/u/DAthe meal

    And when the Pharisee saw it, he marvelled that he had not first washed before dinner.

39. 39

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himהָאָדוֹןha/a/DONthe Lordהֵןhenbeholdעַתָּהat/TAnowהַפְּרוּשִׁיםhap/Pe/ru/SHIMthe Phariseesמְטַהֲרִיםme/ta/ha/RIMmake cleanאַתֶּםat/TEMyouאֶת־הַכּוֹסet-hak/KOSthe cupוְהַקְּעָרָהve/hak/ke/a/RAand the platterמִחוּץmi/CHUTSoutsideוְקִרְבְּכֶםve/kir/be/KHEMbut your insideמָלֵאma/LEis full ofגָּזֵלga/ZELrobberyוָרָשַׁע׃va/ra/SHAand wickedness

    And the Lord said unto him, Now do ye Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the platter; but your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness.

40. 40

    הַכְּסִילִיםhak/ke/si/LIMfoolsהֲלֹאha/LOdid notהָעֹשֶׂהha/o/SEhe who madeאֶת־הַחִיצוֹןet-ha/chi/TSONthat which is withoutגַּם־עָשָׂהgam-a/SAalso makeאֶת־הַפְּנִימִי׃et-hap/pe/ni/MIthat which is within

    Ye fools, did not he that made that which is without make that which is within also?

41. 41

    אֲבָל־תְּנוּa/VAL-te/NUbut giveלִצְדָקָהlits/da/KAas almsאֵת־אֲשֶׁר־בָּםet-a/SHER-bamwhat is in themוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdהַכֹּלhak/KOLall thingsטָהוֹרta/HORis cleanלָכֶם׃la/KHEMto you

    But rather give alms of such things as ye have; and, behold, all things are clean unto you.

42. 42

    אוֹיoywoeלָכֶםla/KHEMto youהַפְּרוּשִׁיםHap/pe/ru/SHIMPhariseesהַמְעַשְּׂרִיםham/as/se/RIMwho titheאֶת־הַמִּנְתָּאet-ham/min/TAthe mintוְאֶת־הַפִּיגַםve/ET-hap/pi/GAMand the rueוְאֵתve/ETandכׇּל־הַיָּרָקkol-hay/ya/RAKevery herbוּמַנִּיחִיםu/man/ni/CHIMand leaveאֶת־הַמִּשְׁפָּטet-ham/mish/PATjusticeוְאֵתve/ETandאַהֲבַתa/ha/VATthe love ofאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodוַעֲלֵיכֶםva/a/le/KHEMand on you it wasלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTto have doneאֶת־אֵלֶּהet-EL/letheseוְלֹאve/LOand notלְהַנִּיחַle/han/NI/achto leaveגַּםgamalsoאֶת־אֵלֶּה׃et-EL/lethe other

    But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

43. 43

    אוֹיoywoeלָכֶםla/KHEMto youהַפְּרוּשִׁיםHap/pe/ru/SHIMPhariseesכִּיkiforתְאֵהֲבוּte/e/ha/VUyou loveלָשֶׁבֶתla/SHE/vetto sitרִאשֹׁנִיםri/sho/NIMfirstבְּבָתֵּיbe/vat/TEin the houses ofכְנֵסֶתkhe/NE/setassemblyוְשֶׁיִּשְׁאֲלוּve/shey/yish/a/LUand that they askבִשְׁלוֹמְכֶםvish/lom/KHEMof your peaceבַּשְּׁוָקִים׃bash/she/va/KIMin the markets

    Woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets.

44. 44

    אוֹיoywoeלָכֶםla/KHEMto youהַסּוֹפְרִיםhas/sof/RIMscribesוְהַפְּרוּשִׁיםve/hap/Pe/ru/SHIMand Phariseesהַחֲנֵפִיםha/cha/ne/FIMhypocritesכִּיkiforאַתֶּםat/TEMyou areכַּקְּבָרִיםkak/ke/va/RIMlike gravesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichאֵינָםe/NAMare notנִכָּרִיםnik/ka/RIMrecognizedוּבְנֵיu/ve/NEand the sons ofהָאָדָםha/a/DAMmenמִתְהַלְּכִיםmit/hal/le/KHIMwalkעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMover themוְלֹאve/LOand notיָדָעוּ׃ya/DA/uthey know

    Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are as graves which appear not, and the men that walk over them are not aware of them.

45. 45

    וַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand answeredאֶחָדe/CHADoneמֵחַכְמֵיme/chakh/MEof the wise men ofהַתּוֹרָהhat/to/RAthe lawוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himרַבִּיrab/BIrabbiבִּדְבָרֶיךָbid/va/RE/khawith your sayingsאֵלֶּהEL/letheseתֵּחָרֵףte/cha/REFyou reproachגַּם־אֹתָנוּ׃gam-o/TA/nuus also

    Then answered one of the lawyers, and said unto him, Master, thus saying thou reproachest us also.

46. 46

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאוֹיoywoeלָכֶםla/KHEMto youחַכְמֵיchakh/MEwise men ofהַתּוֹרָהhat/to/RAthe lawגַּםgamalsoאַתֶּםat/TEMyouכִּיkiforעֹמְסִיםom/SIMloadאַתֶּםat/TEMyouעַל־בְּנֵיal-be/NEon the sons ofהָאָדָםha/a/DAMmenמַשָּׂאוֹתmas/sa/OTburdensכְּבֵדִיםke/ve/DIMgrievousמִסְּבֹלmis/se/VOLto bearוְאַתֶּםve/at/TEMand youבְּעַצְמְכֶםbe/ats/me/KHEMyourselvesאֵינְכֶםe/ne/KHEMdo notנֹגְעִיםnog/IMtouchבַּמַּשָּׂאוֹתbam/mas/sa/OTthe burdensגַּם־בְּאַחַתgam-be/a/CHATwith one ofמֵאֶצְבְּעוֹתֵיכֶם׃me/ets/be/o/te/KHEMyour fingers

    And he said, Woe unto you also, ye lawyers! for ye lade men with burdens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers.

47. 47

    אוֹיoywoeלָכֶםla/KHEMto youכִּי־בוֹנִיםki-vo/NIMfor buildאַתֶּםat/TEMyouנְפָשׁוֹתne/fa/SHOTmonumentsעַל־קִבְרוֹתal-kiv/ROTupon the graves ofהַנְּבִיאִיםhan/ne/vi/IMthe prophetsוַאֲבוֹתֵיכֶםva/a/vo/te/KHEMand your fathersהָרְגוּha/re/GUkilledאוֹתָם׃o/TAMthem

    Woe unto you! for ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, and your fathers killed them.

48. 48

    וּבְכֵןu/ve/KHENand soעֵדִיםe/DIMwitnessesאַתֶּםat/TEMyou areוְרוֹצִיםve/ro/TSIMand approveבְּמַעֲשֵׂיbe/ma/a/SEthe deeds ofאֲבוֹתֵיכֶםa/vo/te/KHEMyour fathersכִּיkiforהֵמָּהHEM/matheyהָרְגוּha/re/GUkilledאוֹתָםo/TAMthemוְאַתֶּםve/at/TEMand youבּוֹנִיםbo/NIMbuildאֶת־קִבְרֵיהֶם׃et-kiv/re/HEMtheir tombs

    Truly ye bear witness that ye allow the deeds of your fathers: for they indeed killed them, and ye build their sepulchres.

49. 49

    בַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURbecause ofזֹאתzotthisגַּם־אָמְרָהgam-a/me/RAalso saidחׇכְמַתchokh/MATthe wisdom ofהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodאֶשְׁלַחesh/LACHI will sendאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themנְבִיאִיםne/vi/IMprophetsוּשְׁלִיחִיםu/she/li/CHIMand apostlesוּמֵהֶםu/me/HEMand of themיַהַרְגוּya/har/GUthey will killוְיִרְדֹּפוּ׃ve/yir/DO/fuand pursue

    Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall slay and persecute:

50. 50

    לְמַעַןle/MA/anso thatיִדָּרֵשׁyid/da/RESHmay be requiredמִן־הַדּוֹרmin-had/DORfrom the generationהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisדַּםdamthe blood ofכׇּל־הַנְּבִיאִיםkol-han/ne/vi/IMall the prophetsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatנִשְׁפַּךְnish/PAKHwas shedלְמִן־הִוָּסֵדle/MIN-hiv/va/SEDfrom the foundation ofהָעוֹלָם׃ha/o/LAMthe world

    That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation;

51. 51

    מִדַּם־הֶבֶלmid/DAM-HE/velfrom the blood of Abelעַד־דַּםad-damto the blood ofזְכַרְיָהוּZe/khar/YA/huZachariasאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoנֶהֱרַגne/he/RAGwas killedבֵּיןbenbetweenהַמִּזְבֵּחַham/miz/BE/achthe altarוְלַבָּיִתve/lab/BA/yitand the houseאָכֵןa/KHENtrulyאֹמֵרo/MERsayאֲנִיa/NIIלָכֶםla/KHEMto youדָּרוֹשׁda/ROSHrequireיִדָּרֵשׁyid/da/RESHit will be requiredמִן־הַדּוֹרmin-had/DORfrom the generationהַזֶּה׃haz/ZEthis

    From the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, which perished between the altar and the temple: verily I say unto you, It shall be required of this generation.

52. 52

    אוֹיoywoeלָכֶםla/KHEMto youחַכְמֵיchakh/MEwise men ofהַתּוֹרָהhat/to/RAthe lawכִּי־הֲסִירֹתֶםki-ha/si/ro/TEMfor you have removedאֶת־מַפְתֵּחַet-maf/TE/achthe key ofהַדָּעַתhad/DA/atknowledgeאַתֶּםat/TEMyouלֹא־בָאתֶםlo-va/TEMdid not enterוְאֶת־הַבָּאִיםve/ET-hab/ba/IMand those enteringמְנַעְתֶּם׃me/na/TEMyou hindered

    Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered.

53. 53

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכְּדַבְּרוֹke/dab/be/ROas he spokeלָהֶםla/HEMto themאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםet-had/de/va/RIMthe wordsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseוַיָּחֵלּוּvay/ya/CHEL/lubeganהַסּוֹפְרִיםhas/sof/RIMthe scribesוְהַפְּרוּשִׁיםve/hap/Pe/ru/SHIMand the Phariseesלִצְרֹרlits/RORto pressאוֹתוֹo/TOhimמְאֹדme/ODhardוּלְהַקְשׁוֹתu/le/hak/SHOTand to press hardלוֹlohimדְּבָרִיםde/va/RIMthingsהַרְבֵּה׃har/BEmany

    And as he said these things unto them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to urge him vehemently, and to provoke him to speak of many things:

54. 54

    וַיֶּאֶרְבוּvay/ye/er/VUand they lay in waitלוֹlofor himלִלְכֹּדlil/KODto catchדָּבָרda/VARa wordמִפִּיהוּmip/PI/huout of his mouthלְמַעַןle/MA/anso thatיִמְצְאוּyim/tse/Uthey might findעָלָיוa/LAYVagainst himעֲלִילֹתa/li/LOTpretexts ofדְּבָרִים׃de/va/RIMwords

    Laying wait for him, and seeking to catch something out of his mouth, that they might accuse him.
