1. 1

   וְאַחֲרֵיAnd afterהַדְּבָרִיםthingsהָאֵלֶּהthese,הִבְדִּילappointedהָאָדוֹןthe Lordעוֹדalsoשִׁבְעִיםseventyאֲחֵרִיםothers,וַיִּשְׁלָחֵםand sent themלְפָנָיוbefore his faceשְׁנַיִםtwoשְׁנַיִםby two,אֶל־כׇּל־עִירunto every cityוּמָקוֹםand placeאֲשֶׁרwhitherבִּקֵּשׁhe soughtלָבוֹאto comeשָׁמָּה׃thither.

   After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come.

2. 2

   וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saidלָהֶםunto them,הֵןBehold,הַקָּצִירthe harvestרַבis great,וְהַפֹּעֲלִיםbut the laborersמְעַטִּיםare few;לָכֵןthereforeהִתְחַנֲנוּbeseechאֶל־אֲדוֹןthe lord ofהַקָּצִירthe harvest,וְיִשְׁלַחthat he send forthפֹּעֲלִיםlaborersלִקְצִירוֹ׃into his harvest.

   Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.

3. 3

   לְכוּ־נָאGo you, I pray;הִנֵּהbehold,אָנֹכִיIשֹׁלֵחַsendאֶתְכֶםyouכִּשְׁלֹחַas sendingכְּבָשִׂיםlambsבֵּיןamongזְאֵבִים׃wolves.

   Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves.

4. 4

   אַל־תִּשְׂאוּTake you notכִיסa purse,וְלֹאnorתַרְמִילscrip,וְלֹאnorנְעָלִיםsandals,וְאַל־תִּשְׁאֲלוּand ask you notלִשְׁלוֹם־אִישׁfor the welfare of any manבַּדָּרֶךְ׃on the way.

   Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way.

5. 5

   וּלְכׇל־בַּיִתAnd unto whatever houseאֲשֶׁרthatתָּבֹאוּyou enter,שָׁםthereאִמְרוּsayבָרִאשׁוֹנָהfirst,שָׁלוֹםPeaceלַבַּיִתunto houseהַזֶּה׃this.

   And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house.

6. 6

   וְהָיָהAnd it shall be,כִּיifיִהְיֶה־שָּׁםthere be thereבֶּן־שָׁלוֹםa son of peace,וְנָחthen shall restעָלָיוupon himשְׁלוֹמְכֶםyour peace;וְאִם־לֹאand if not,אֲלֵיכֶםunto youיָשׁוּב׃it shall return.

   And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again.

7. 7

   וּבַבַּיִתAnd in the houseהַהוּאthatתֵּשְׁבוּabide you,וְתֹאכְלוּand eatוְתִשְׁתּוּand drinkמֵאֲשֶׁרof that whichיִנָּתֵןis givenלָכֶםunto you;כִּיforרָאוּיworthy isהַפּוֹעֵלthe laborerלִשְׂכָרוֹof his wages.אַל־תִּסְעוּGo notמִבַּיִתfrom houseלְבָיִת׃to house.

   And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house.

8. 8

   וְכׇל־עִירAnd whatever cityאֲשֶׁרthatתָּבֹאוּyou enterבָהּinto,וְקִבְּלוּand they receiveאֶתְכֶםyou,אִכְלוּeat youאֶת־אֲשֶׁרthat whichיָשִׂימוּthey setלִפְנֵיכֶם׃before you;

   And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you:

9. 9

   וְרִפְאוּand healאֶת־הַחוֹלִיםthe sickאֲשֶׁרthat areבְּקִרְבָּהּin its midst,וְאִמְרוּand sayלָהֶםunto them,קׇרְבָהhas drawn nearאֲלֵיכֶםunto youמַלְכוּתthe kingdom ofהָאֱלֹהִים׃God.

   And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.

10. 10

    וְכׇל־עִירAnd whatever cityאֲשֶׁרthatתָּבֹאוּyou enterבָהּinto,וְלֹאand notיְקַבְּלוּdo they receiveאֶתְכֶםyou,וִיצָאתֶםthen you shall go forthאֶל־רְחוֹבוֹתֶיהָunto its streets,וַאֲמַרְתֶּם׃and say,

    But into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you not, go your ways out into the streets of the same, and say,

11. 11

    אַףEvenאֶת־עֲפַרthe dust ofעִירְכֶםyour city,אֲשֶׁרthatבְּרַגְלֵינוּon our feet,נְנַעֲרֵהוּwe shake offלָכֶםagainst you;רַקonlyיָדֹעַknowתֵּדְעוּyou assuredly,כִּיthatקׇרְבָהhas drawn nearמַלְכוּתthe kingdom ofהָאֱלֹהִים׃God.

    Even the very dust of your city, which cleaveth on us, we do wipe off against you: notwithstanding be ye sure of this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.

12. 12

    אֹמֵרSayאֲנִיIלָכֶםunto you,לִסְדוֹםfor Sodomיֵקַלit shall be more tolerableבַּיּוֹםin the dayהַהוּאthat,מִן־הָעִירthan for cityהַהִיא׃that.

    But I say unto you, that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom, than for that city.

13. 13

    אוֹיWoeלָךְunto you,כּוֹרָזִיןChorazin;אוֹיwoeלָךְunto you,בֵּית־צָיְדָהBethsaida;כִּיforהַגְּבוּרוֹתthe mighty worksאֲשֶׁרthatנַעֲשׂוּwere doneבְקִרְבְּכֶןin your midst,אִלּוּifנַעֲשׂוּthey had been doneבְּצוֹרin Tyreוּבְצִידוֹןand in Sidon,הֲלֹאwould they notכְבָרalreadyיָשְׁבוּhave satבְּשַׂקin sackclothוָאֵפֶרand ashesוָשָׁבוּ׃and have repented?

    Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which have been done in you, they had a great while ago repented, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.

14. 14

    אָכֵןSurelyלְצוֹרfor Tyreוְצִידוֹןand Sidonיֵקַלit shall be more tolerableבַּדִּיןin the judgmentמִכֶּם׃than for you.

    But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment, than for you.

15. 15

    וְאַתְּAnd you,כְּפַר־נַחוּםCapernaum,אֲשֶׁרthatעַד־הַשָּׁמַיִםunto the heavensהִתְרוֹמָמְתְּhast exalted thyself,אֶל־שְׁאוֹלto Sheolתּוּרָדִי׃shall you be brought down.

    And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted to heaven, shalt be thrust down to hell.

16. 16

    הַשּׁוֹמֵעַHe who hearkensאֲלֵיכֶםunto you,אֵלַיunto meהוּאheשׁוֹמֵעַhearkens;וְהַבּוֹזֶהand he who despisesאֶתְכֶםyou,אוֹתִיmeהוּאheבוֹזֶהdespises;וְהַבּוֹזֶהand he who despisesאוֹתִיme,הוּאheבוֹזֶהdespisesאֶת־אֲשֶׁרhim whoשְׁלָחָנִי׃sent me.

    He that heareth you heareth me; and he that despiseth you despiseth me; and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me.

17. 17

    וַיָּשׁוּבוּAnd returnedהַשִּׁבְעִיםthe seventyבְּשִׂמְחָהwith joy,וַיֹּאמְרוּsaying,אֲדֹנֵינוּLord,גַּם־הַשֵּׁדִיםeven the devilsנִכְנָעִיםare subjectתַּחְתֵּינוּunto usבִּשְׁמֶךָ׃through your name.

    And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.

18. 18

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,רָאִיתִיI beheldאֶת־הַשָּׂטָןSatanנֹפֵלas fallingכַּבָּרָקlike lightningמִן־הַשָּׁמָיִם׃from heaven.

    And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.

19. 19

    הִנֵּהBehold,הִשְׁלַטְתִּיI giveאֶתְכֶםunto youלִדְרֹךְpower to treadעַל־נְחָשִׁיםon serpentsוְעַקְרַבִּיםand scorpions,וְעַלand overכׇּל־גְּבוּרַתall the power ofהָאֹיֵבthe enemy:וְכׇל־דָּבָרand any thingלֹאby no meansיַזִּיקshall hurtלָכֶם׃you.

    Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

20. 20

    אַךְNotwithstandingבָּזֹאתin thisאַל־תִּשְׂמְחוּrejoice not,אֲשֶׁר־נִכְנָעִיםthat are subjectתַּחְתֵּיכֶםunto youהָרוּחוֹתthe spirits;כִּיbutאִם־שִׂמְחוּrather rejoice,עַלbecauseאֲשֶׁר־נִכְתְּבוּare writtenשְׁמוֹתֵיכֶםyour namesבַּשָּׁמָיִם׃in heaven.

    Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.

21. 21

    בַּשָּׁעָהIn hourהַהִיאthatעָלַץrejoicedיֵשׁוּעַJesusבְּרוּחַin spirit,וַיֹּאמַרand said,אוֹדְךָI thank you,אָבִיO Father,אֲדוֹןLord ofהַשָּׁמַיִםheavenוְהָאָרֶץand earth,כִּיthatהִסְתַּרְתָּyou have hidאֶת־אֵלֶּהthese thingsמִן־הַחֲכָמִיםfrom the wiseוְהַנְּבוֹנִיםand prudent,וְגִלִּיתָםand hast revealed themלָעֹלֲלִיםunto babes:הֵןeven so,אָבִיFather;כִּי־כֵןfor soהָיָהit seemedרָצוֹןgoodמִלְּפָנֶיךָ׃in your sight.

    In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight.

22. 22

    הַכֹּלAll thingsנִמְסַר־לִיare delivered to meמֵאֵתofאָבִיmy Father:וְאֵיןand no manיוֹדֵעַknowethמִיwhoהַבֵּןthe Son is,בִּלְתִּיbutהָאָבthe Father;וּמִיand whoהָאָבthe Father is,בִּלְתִּיbutהַבֵּןthe Son,וַאֲשֶׁרand he to whomיַחְפֹּץwillהַבֵּןthe Sonלְגַלּוֹתrevealלוֹ׃him.

    All things are delivered to me of my Father: and no man knoweth who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him.

23. 23

    וַיִּפֶןAnd he turned himאֶל־תַּלְמִידָיוunto his disciples,לְבַדָּםprivately,וַיֹּאמַרand said,אַשְׁרֵיBlessed areהָעֵינַיִםthe eyesהָרֹאוֹתwhich seeאֵת־אֲשֶׁרthatאַתֶּםyouרֹאִים׃see:

    And he turned him unto his disciples, and said privately, Blessed are the eyes which see the things that ye see:

24. 24

    כִּיForאֹמֵרtellאֲנִיIלָכֶםyou,נְבִיאִיםthat prophetsוּמְלָכִיםand kingsרַבִּיםmanyחָשְׁקוּhave desiredלִרְאוֹתto seeאֵת־אֲשֶׁרwhichאַתֶּםyouרֹאִיםsee,וְלֹאand have notרָאוּseen them;וְלִשְׁמֹעַand to hearאֵת־אֲשֶׁרwhichאַתֶּםyouשֹׁמְעִיםhear,וְלֹאand have notשָׁמֵעוּ׃heard them.

    For I tell you, that many prophets and kings have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.

25. 25

    וְהִנֵּהAnd, behold,חָכָםa lawyerאֶחָדcertainקָםstood up,לְנַסּוֹתוֹtempting him,וַיֹּאמַרand saying,מוֹרֶהMaster,מָה־אֶעֱשֶׂהwhat shall I doוְאִירַשׁto inheritחַיֵּיlifeעוֹלָם׃eternal?

    And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

26. 26

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saidאֵלָיוunto him,מַה־כָּתוּבWhat is writtenבַּתּוֹרָהin the law?אֵיךְhowאַתָּהyouקוֹרֵא׃readest?

    He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou?

27. 27

    וַיַּעַןAnd he answeredוַיֹּאמַרand said,וְאָהַבְתָּYou shall loveאֵת־יְהוָֹהthe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָyour Godבְּכׇל־לְבָבְךָwith all your heart,וּבְכׇל־נַפְשְׁךָand with all your soul,וּבְכׇל־מְאֹדְךָand with all your strength,וּבְכׇל־מַדָּעֲךָand with all your mind;וְאֶת־רֵעֲךָand your neighborכָּמוֹךָ׃as thyself.

    And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.

28. 28

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he saidאֵלָיוunto him,כֵּןrightlyהֱשִׁיבוֹתָYou have answered:עֲשֵׂה־זֹאתthis do,וֶחְיֵה׃and you shall live.

    And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.

29. 29

    וְהוּאBut he,חָפֵץwillingלְהִצְטַדֵּקto justify himself,וַיֹּאמֶרsaidאֶל־יֵשׁוּעַunto Jesus,וּמִיAnd whoהוּאisרֵעִי׃my neighbor?

    But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?

30. 30

    וַיַּעַןAnd answeredיֵשׁוּעַJesusוַיֹּאמַרand said,אִישׁA manאֶחָדcertainיָרַדwent downמִירוּשָׁלַיִםfrom Jerusalemלִירִיחוֹto Jericho,וְנָפַלand fellבִּידֵיinto the hands ofשֹׁדֲדִיםrobbers,וְהֵםand theyהִפְשִׁיטֻהוּstripped himוְגַם־פְּצָעֻהוּand also wounded him,וַיַּעַזְבוּand forsookאוֹתוֹhim,וְהוּאand he wasעוֹמֵדstandingבֵּין־מָוֶתbetween deathלַחַיִּיםand life,וַיֵּלְכוּand they departedלָהֶם׃away.

    And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.

31. 31

    וַיִּקֶרAnd it chancedמִקְרֵהוּby chanceכֹּהֵןthat a priestאֶחָדcertainיָרַדcame downבַּדֶּרֶךְby wayהַהוּאthat:וַיַּרְאand sawאֹתוֹhim,וַיַּעֲבֹרhe passed byמֵעָלָיו׃on the other side.

    And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.

32. 32

    וְכֵןAnd likewiseגַּם־אִישׁalso a man ofלֵוִיLevi,נִקְרַהcameבַּמָּקוֹםat the place,וַיִּגַּשׁand approached,וַיַּרְאand sawאֹתוֹhim,וַיַּעֲבֹרhe passed byמֵעָלָיו׃on the other side.

    And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.

33. 33

    וְהִנֵּהBut behold,שֹׁמְרוֹנִיa Samaritan,הֹלֵךְjourneying,בַּדֶּרֶךְalong the way,וַיָּבֹאcameעָלָיוupon him:וַיַּרְאand sawאֹתוֹhim,וַיֶּהֱמוּand were movedמֵעָיו׃his bowels with compassion.

    But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,

34. 34

    וַיִּגַּשׁAnd he drew nearאֵלָיוunto him,וַיֶּחְבַּשׁand bound upאֶת־פְּצָעָיוhis wounds,וַיְסוּכֵםand poured into themבְּשֶׁמֶןoilוָיָיִןand wine,וַיַּרְכִּיבֵהוּand set himעַל־בְּהֶמְתּוֹon his own beast,וַיּוֹלִיכֵהוּand brought himאֶל־הַמָּלוֹןto an inn,וַיְכַלְכְּלֵהוּ׃and took care of him.

    And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.

35. 35

    וְלַמׇּחֳרָתAnd on the morrowבְּנָסְעוֹwhen he departed,הוֹצִיאhe took outשְׁנֵיtwoדִינָרִיםpence,וַיִּתְּנֵםand gave themלְבַעַלto the host ofהַמָּלוֹןthe inn,וַיֹּאמַרand saidכַּלְכֵּלTake care ofאוֹתוֹhim;וְאֵתandאֲשֶׁרwhatsoeverתּוֹסִיףyou spendestעוֹדmore,לְהוֹצִיאwhen I expendעָלָיוupon him,אֲנִיIבְשׁוּבִיwhen I come again,אֲשַׁלְּמֶנּוּwill repay you.לָךְ׃unto you.

    And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.

36. 36

    וְעַתָּהNow thereforeמִיwhichמִן־הַשְּׁלשָׁהof these three,הָיָהwasבְעֵינֶיךָin your eyes,רֵעַneighborלַנֹּפֵלunto him that fellבִּידֵיinto the hands ofהַשֹּׁדֲדִים׃the robbers?

    Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?

37. 37

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd he said,הָעֹשֶׂהHe that shewedעִמּוֹwith him.אֶת־הֶחָסֶדmercyוַיֹּאמֶרThen saidאֵלָיוunto himיֵשׁוּעַJesus,לֵךְGo,וַעֲשֵׂה־כֵןand do likewise,גַּם־אָתָּה׃you also.

    And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.

38. 38

    וַיְהִיNow it came to pass,בְנָסְעָםas they went,וַיָּבֹאthat he enteredאֶל־כְּפָרinto a villageאֶחָדcertain:וְאִשָּׁהand a womanאַחַתcertainוּשְׁמָהּnamedמָרְתָאMarthaאָסְפָהreceivedאוֹתוֹhimאֶל־בֵּיתָהּ׃into her house.

    Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.

39. 39

    וְלָהּAnd she hadאָחוֹתa sisterוּשְׁמָהּcalledמִרְיָםMary,אֲשֶׁרwhich alsoיָשְׁבָהsatלְרַגְלֵיat the feet ofיֵשׁוּעַJesus,לִשְׁמֹעַand heardאֶל־דְּבָרוֹ׃his word.

    And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word.

40. 40

    וּמָרְתָאBut Marthaיָגְעָהwas cumberedבְּרֹבabout muchשֵׁרוּתָהּserving,וַתִּגַּשׁand came to him,וַתֹּאמֶרand said,הֲלֹאDo you notתָשִׂיםcare,עַל־לִבְּךָupon your heart,אֲדֹנִיLord,אֲשֶׁרthatאֲחוֹתִיmy sisterעֲזָבַתְנִיhath left meלְשָׁרֵתto serveלְבַדִּיalone?אֱמׇר־נָאbidאֵלֶיהָher thereforeוְתִתְמָךְ־בִּי׃that she help me.

    But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.

41. 41

    וַיַּעַןAnd answeredיֵשׁוּעַJesusוַיֹּאמֶרand saidלָהּunto her,מָרְתָאMartha,מָרְתָאMartha,אַתְּyou areדֹּאֶגֶתcarefulוּמְבֹהֶלֶתand troubledלִדְבָרִיםabout thingsהַרְבֵּה׃many:

    And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:

42. 42

    וְאֵיןButצֹרֶךְneedאֶלָּאone thing isבְּאֶחָדneedful:וּמִרְיָםand Maryבָּחֲרָהhath chosenבַּחֵלֶקpart,הַטּוֹבthat goodאֲשֶׁרwhichלֹא־יֻקַּחshall not be taken awayמִמֶּנָּה׃from her.

    But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
