   אָזazthenלָקַחla/KACHtookפִּילָטוֹסPi/la/TOSPilateאֶת־יֵשׁוּעַet-Ye/SHU/aJesusוַיְיַסְּרֵהוּvay/yas/se/re/HUand scourged himבַּשּׁוֹטִים׃bash/sho/TIMwith whips

   Then Pilate therefore took Jesus, and scourged him.

   וַיְשָׂרֲגוּvay/sa/ra/GUplaitedאַנְשֵׁיan/SHEthe soldiersהַצָּבָאhats/tsa/VA(of the army)עֲטֶרֶתa/TE/reta crownקֹצִיםko/TSIMof thornsוַיָּשִׂימוּvay/ya/SI/muand putעַל־רֹאשׁוֹal-ro/SHOon his headוַיַּעֲטֻהוּvay/ya/a/tu/HUand wrapped him inלְבוּשׁle/VUSHa robeאַרְגָּמָן׃ar/ga/MANof purple

   And said, Hail, King of the Jews! and they smote him with their hands.

   Pilate therefore went forth again, and saith unto them, Behold, I bring him forth to you, that ye may know that I find no fault in him.

   Then came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And Pilate saith unto them, Behold the man!

   When the chief priests therefore and officers saw him, they cried out, saying, Crucify him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Take ye him, and crucify him: for I find no fault in him.

   וַיַּעֲנוּvay/ya/a/NUand answeredהַיְּהוּדִיםhay/Ye/hu/DIMthe Jewsוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidתּוֹרָהto/RAa lawיֶשׁ־לָנוּyesh-LA/nuwe haveוְעַל־פִּיve/AL-piand according toתוֹרָתֵנוּto/ra/te/NUour lawמוֹתmotdieיָמוּתya/MUThe ought to dieכִּי־עָשָׂהki-a/SAbecause he madeעַצְמוֹats/MOhimselfבֶּן־אֱלֹהִים׃ben-E/lo/HIMthe Son of God

   The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכִּשְׁמֹעַkish/MO/awhen heardפִּילָטוֹסPi/la/TOSPilateאֶת־הַדָּבָרet-had/da/VARthe wordהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisוַיּוֹסֶףvay/YO/sefand he was the moreלִירֹאli/ROafraidעוֹד׃odmore

   When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he was the more afraid;

   וַיָּשׇׁבvay/YA/shovand went againוַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand enteredאֶל־בֵּיתel-betthe house ofהַמִּשְׁפָּטham/mish/PATjudgmentוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֶל־יֵשׁוּעַel-Ye/SHU/ato Jesusמֵאַיִןme/A/yinfrom whereאָתָּהAT/taare youוְלֹא־הֱשִׁיבוֹve/LO-he/shi/VOand did not answer himיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusדָּבָר׃da/VARa word

   And went again into the judgment hall, and saith unto Jesus, Whence art thou? But Jesus gave him no answer.

    Then saith Pilate unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee?

    וַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand answeredיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingלֹאlonotהָיְתָה־לְּךָha/ye/TA-le/KHAwould you haveרְשׁוּתre/SHUTpowerעָלַיa/LAYagainst meלוּלֵאlu/LEif notנִתַּן־לְךָnit/TAN-le/KHAit was given to youמִלְמָעְלָהmil/MA/lafrom aboveלָכֵןla/KHENthereforeהַמַּסְגִּירham/mas/GIRthe one handing overאֹתִיo/TImeאֵלֶיךָe/LE/khato youחַטָּאתוֹchat/ta/TOhas the sinגְּדוֹלָה׃ge/do/LAgreater

    Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.

    וּמֵאָזu/me/AZand from thenceforthבִּקֵּשׁbik/KESHsoughtפִּילָטוֹסPi/la/TOSPilateלְשַׁלְּחוֹle/shal/le/CHOto release himוְהַיְּהוּדִיםve/hay/Ye/hu/DIMand the Jewsקָרְאוּka/re/Ucried outוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidאִם־תְּשַׁלַּחim-te/shal/LACHif you releaseאֶת־זֶהet-zethis oneאֵינְךָe/ne/KHAyou are notאֹהֵבo/HEVa friendלְקֵיסָרLe/ke/SARCaesar'sכִּיkiforכׇל־הָעֹשֶׂהkhol-ha/o/SEeveryone who makesעַצְמוֹats/MOhimselfמֶלֶךְME/lekha kingמְדַבֵּרme/dab/BERspeaks againstבְּקֵיסָרBe/ke/SARCaesarהוּא׃huhe

    And from thenceforth Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou let this man go, thou art not Cæsar's friend: whosoever maketh himself a king speaketh against Cæsar.

    When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought Jesus forth, and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called the Pavement, but in the Hebrew, Gabbatha.

    וְהָעֵתve/ha/ETand the time wasעֶרֶבE/revthe preparation ofפֶּסַחPE/sachPassoverוְכַשָּׁעָהve/khash/sha/Aand about the hourהַשִּׁשִּׁיתhash/shish/SHITthe sixthוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֶל־הַיְּהוּדִיםel-Hay/ye/hu/DIMto the Jewsהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdמַלְכְּכֶם׃mal/ke/KHEMyour king

    And it was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King!

    וְהֵםve/HEMand theyזָעֲקוּza/a/KUcried outהָסֵרha/SERaway with himהָסֵרha/SERaway with himצְלֹבtse/LOVcrucifyאֹתוֹo/TOhimוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themפִּילָטוֹסPi/la/TOSPilateהֲצָלֹבha/tsa/LOVcrucifyאֶצְלֹבets/LOVshall I crucifyאֶת־מַלְכְּכֶםet-mal/ke/KHEMyour kingוַיַּעֲנוּvay/ya/a/NUand answeredרָאשֵׁיra/SHEthe chiefs ofהַכֹּהֲנִיםhak/ko/ha/NIMthe priestsאֵין־לָנוּen-LA/nuwe have noמֶלֶךְME/lekhkingכִּיkiexceptאִם־קֵיסָר׃im-Ke/SARonly Caesar

    But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Cæsar.

    אָזazthenמְסָרוֹme/sa/ROhe delivered himאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themלְהִצָּלֵבle/hits/tsa/LEVto be crucifiedוַיִּקְחוּvay/yik/CHUand they tookאֶת־יֵשׁוּעַet-Ye/SHU/aJesusוַיּוֹלִיכֻהוּ׃vay/yo/li/KHU/huand led him away

    Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away.

17. 17

    וַיִּשָּׂאvay/yis/SAand bearingאֶת־צְלוּבוֹet-tse/lu/VOhis crossוַיֵּצֵאvay/ye/TSEand went outאֶל־הַמָּקוֹםel-ham/ma/KOMto the placeהַנִּקְרָאhan/nik/RAcalledמְקוֹםme/KOMthe place ofהַגֻּלְגֹּלֶתhag/gul/GO/letthe skullוּבְעִבְרִיתu/ve/Iv/RITin the Hebrewגָּלְגָּלְתָּא׃Gal/gal/TAGolgotha

    And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:

18. 18

    וַיִּצְלְבוּvay/yits/le/VUand they crucifiedאֹתוֹo/TOhimשָׁמָּהSHAM/mathereוּשְׁנֵיu/she/NEand twoאֲנָשִׁיםa/na/SHIMmenאֲחֵרִיםa/che/RIMotherעִמּוֹim/MOwith himמִזֶּהmiz/ZEon this sideאֶחָדe/CHADoneוּמִזֶּהu/miz/ZEand on that sideאֶחָדe/CHADoneוְיֵשׁוּעַve/Ye/SHU/aand Jesusבַּתָּוֶךְ׃bat/TA/vekhin the middle

    Where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst.

    וּפִילָטוֹסu/Fi/la/TOSand Pilateכָּתַבka/TAVwroteמִכְתָּבmikh/TAVa titleוַיָּשֶׂםvay/YA/semand put itעַל־הַצְּלוּבal-hats/tse/LUVon the crossוְזֶה־דְּבַרve/ZE-de/VARand this was the word ofמִכְתָּבוֹmikh/ta/VOits inscriptionיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusהַנָּצְרִיhan/Na/tse/RIof NazarethמֶלֶךְME/lekhthe king ofהַיְּהוּדִים׃hay/Ye/hu/DIMthe Jews

    And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS.

    וִיהוּדִיםVi/hu/DIMand Jewsרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyקָרְאוּka/re/Ureadאֶת־הַמִּכְתָּבet-ham/mikh/TAVtitleהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisכִּיkiforהַמָּקוֹםham/ma/KOMthe placeאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhereנִצְלַב־שָׁםnits/LAV-shamwas crucified thereיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusקָרוֹבka/ROVwas nearאֶל־הָעִירel-ha/IRto the cityוְהַמִּכְתָּבve/ham/mikh/TAVand the inscriptionכָּתוּבka/TUVwas writtenעִבְרִיתIv/RITin HebrewוִיוָנִיתVi/va/NITand Greekוְרוֹמִית׃ve/Ro/MITand Latin

    This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin.

21. 21

    וַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidרָאשֵׁיra/SHEthe chiefs ofכֹּהֲנֵיko/ha/NEthe priests ofהַיְּהוּדִיםhay/Ye/hu/DIMthe Jewsאֶל־פִּילָטוֹסel-Pi/la/TOSto Pilateאַל־נָאal-nado notתִכְתֹּבtikh/TOVwriteמֶלֶךְME/lekhthe king ofהַיְּהוּדִיםhay/Ye/hu/DIMthe Jewsכִּיkibutאִם־אֲשֶׁרim-a/SHERonly thatאָמַרa/MARhe saidאֲנִיa/NII amמֶלֶךְME/lekhking ofהַיְּהוּדִים׃hay/Ye/hu/DIMthe Jews

    Then said the chief priests of the Jews to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews; but that he said, I am King of the Jews.

22. 22

    וַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand answeredפִּילָטוֹסPi/la/TOSPilateוַיֹּאמַרvay/yo/MARand saidאֵת־אֲשֶׁרet-a/SHERwhatכָּתַבְתִּיka/TAV/tiI have writtenכָּתָבְתִּי׃ka/tav/TII have written

    Pilate answered, What I have written I have written.

    Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout.

    They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did.

    Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.

    וַיַּרְאvay/YARand sawיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusאֶת־אִמּוֹet-im/MOhis motherוְאֶת־תַּלְמִידוֹve/ET-tal/mi/DOand the discipleאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhomאָהַבa/HAVhe lovedעֹמְדִיםom/DIMstandingאֶצְלוֹets/LObeside himוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֶל־אִמּוֹel-im/MOto his motherאִשָּׁהish/SHAwomanהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdבְּנֵךְ׃be/NEKHyour son

    When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!

27. 27

    וְאַחַרve/a/CHARand afterאָמַרa/MARhe saidאֶל־תַּלְמִידוֹel-tal/mi/DOto the discipleהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdאִמֶּךָim/ME/khayour motherוּמִן־הַשָּׁעָהu/MIN-hash/sha/Aand from the hourהַהִיאha/HIthatאָסַףa/SAFtook inאֹתָהּo/TAherהַתַּלְמִידhat/tal/MIDthat discipleאֶל־בֵּיתוֹ׃el-be/TOinto his house

    Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passמֵאַחֲרֵי־כֵןme/a/cha/RE-khenafter thisכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasיָדַעya/DAknewיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusכִּיkithatעַתָּהat/TAnowנַעֲשָׂהna/a/SAwere accomplishedהַכֹּלhak/KOLallלְמַעַןle/MA/anso thatיִמָּלֵאyim/MA/lemight be fulfilledהַכָּתוּבhak/ka/TUVthe scriptureאָמַרa/MARhe saidצָמֵאתִי׃tsa/ME/tiI thirst

    After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.

    וְשָׁם־כְּלִיve/SHAM-ke/LIand there was a vesselמָלֵאma/LEfullחֹמֶץCHO/metsof vinegarוַיְמַלְאוּvay/mal/Uand they filledסְפוֹגse/FOGa spongeבַּחֹמֶץba/CHO/metswith vinegarוַיָּשִׂימוּvay/ya/SI/muand put itעַל־אֵזוֹבal-e/ZOVupon hyssopוַיַּקְרִיבוּvay/yak/RI/vuand brought it nearאֶל־פִּיו׃el-pivto his mouth

    Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a sponge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth.

30. 30

    וַיִּקַּחvay/yik/KACHhad receivedיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusאֶת־הַחֹמֶץet-ha/CHO/metsthe vinegarוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidכֻּלָּהkul/LAit is finishedוַיֵּטvay/YETand bowedאֶת־רֹאשׁוֹet-ro/SHOhis headוַיִּפַּחvay/yip/PACHand gave upאֶת־נַפְשׁוֹ׃et-naf/SHOthe ghost

    When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

    וְהַיְּהוּדִיםve/hay/Ye/hu/DIMand the Jewsאָמְרוּa/me/RUsaidלֹאlonotיָלִינוּya/LI/nuwould remainהַפְּגָרִיםhap/pe/ga/RIMthe corpsesעַל־הַצְּלוּבal-hats/tse/LUVon the crossבְּיוֹםbe/YOMon the day ofהַשַּׁבָּתhash/shab/BATthe sabbathכִּי־עֶרֶבki-E/revfor the eve ofשַׁבָּתshab/BATsabbathהָיָהha/YAit wasוְגָדוֹלve/ga/DOLand greatיוֹםyomdayהַשַּׁבָּתhash/shab/BATthe sabbathהַהוּאha/HUthatוַיִּשְׁאֲלוּvay/yish/a/LUand they askedמִן־פִּילָטוֹסmin-Pi/la/TOSPilateלְשַׁבֵּרle/shab/BERto breakאֶת־שׁוֹקֵיהֶםet-sho/ke/HEMtheir legsוּלְהוֹרִידu/le/ho/RIDand to bring downאֹתָם׃o/TAMthem

    The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.

32. 32

    וַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uand cameאַנְשֵׁיan/SHEthe men ofהַצָּבָאhats/tsa/VAthe armyוַיְשַׁבְּרוּvay/shab/be/RUand brokeאֶת־שׁוֹקֵיet-sho/KEthe legs ofהָאֶחָדha/e/CHADthe firstוְאֶת־שׁוֹקֵיve/ET-sho/KEand the legs ofהַשֵּׁנִיhash/she/NIthe otherהַנִּצְלָבִיםhan/nits/la/VIMcrucifiedעִמּוֹ׃im/MOwith him

    Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him.

33. 33

    וַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uand they cameאֶל־יֵשׁוּעַel-Ye/SHU/ato Jesusוַיִּרְאוּvay/yir/Uand sawוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdמֵתmetdeadוְלֹאve/LOand notשִׁבְּרוּshib/be/RUdid they breakאֶת־שׁוֹקָיו׃et-sho/KAYVhis legs

    But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:

34. 34

    וְאֶחָדve/e/CHADand oneמֵאַנְשֵׁיme/an/SHEof the men ofהַצָּבָאhats/tsa/VAthe armyדְּקָרוֹde/ka/ROpierced himבַחֲנִיתva/cha/NITwith a spearבְּצִדּוֹbe/tsid/DOhis sideוַיֵּצֵאvay/ye/TSEand came outדָּםdambloodוָמָיִם׃va/MA/yimand water

    But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.

35. 35

    וְהָרֹאֶהve/ha/ro/Eand the one who sawזֹאתzotthisהֵעִידhe/IDbare recordוְעֵדוּתוֹve/e/du/TOand his recordנֶאֱמָנָהne/e/ma/NAis trueוְהוּאve/HUand heיוֹדֵעַyo/DE/aknowsכִּיkithatאֱמֶתe/METtruthיַגִּידyag/GIDhe tellsלְמַעַןle/MA/anso thatגַּם־אַתֶּםgam-at/TEMyou alsoתַּאֲמִינוּ׃ta/a/MI/numight believe

    And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe.

36. 36

    כִּיkiforזֹאתzotthisהָיְתָהha/ye/TAhappenedלְמַלֹּאתle/mal/LOTto fulfillהַכָּתוּבhak/ka/TUVthe scriptureעֶצֶםE/tsema boneלֹא־יִשָּׁבֵרlo-yish/sha/VERshall not be brokenבוֹ׃voof him

    For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.

37. 37

    וְעוֹדve/ODand againכָּתוּבka/TUVscriptureאַחֵרa/CHERanotherאֹמֵרo/MERsaysוְהִבִּיטוּve/hib/BI/tuand they will lookאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himאֵת־אֲשֶׁרet-a/SHERon him whomדָּקָרוּ׃da/KA/ruthey pierced

    And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.

38. 38

    וְאַחַרve/a/CHARand afterבָּאbacameיוֹסֵףYo/SEFJosephהָרָמָתִיha/Ra/ma/TIof Arimathaeaוְהוּאve/HUand he wasתַּלְמִידtal/MIDa disciple ofיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusבַּסֵּתֶרbas/SE/terin secretמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEforיִרְאַתyir/ATfear ofהַיְּהוּדִיםhay/Ye/hu/DIMthe Jewsוַיִּשְׁאַלvay/yish/ALand askedמֵאֵתme/ETofפִּילָטוֹסPi/la/TOSPilateאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatיִתְּנֵהוּyit/te/ne/HUhe give himלָשֵׂאתla/SETto carryאֶת־גוּפַתet-gu/FATthe body ofיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusוַיַּנַּחvay/yan/NACHand gave leaveלוֹloto himפִּילָטוֹסPi/la/TOSPilateוַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand he cameוַיִּשָּׂאvay/yis/SAand carriedאֶת־גוּפַתet-gu/FATthe body ofיֵשׁוּעַ׃Ye/SHU/aJesus

    And after this Joseph of Arimathæa, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus.

39. 39

    וַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameגַּם־נַקְדִּימוֹןgam-Nak/di/MONalso Nicodemusאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoבָּא־לְפָנִיםba-le/fa/NIMat the first cameבַּלַּיְלָהbal/LAY/laby nightאֶל־יֵשׁוּעַel-Ye/SHU/ato Jesusוַיָּבֵאvay/ya/VEand he broughtתַעֲרֹבֶתta/a/RO/veta mixtureמֹר־וַאֲהָלוֹתmor-va/a/ha/LOTof myrrh and aloesכְּמֵאָהke/me/Aabout a hundredמָנֶה׃ma/NEpound weight

    And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight.

40. 40

    וַיִּקְחוּvay/yik/CHUand they tookאֶת־גּוּפַתet-gu/FATthe body ofיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusוַיְחַתְּלוּהָvay/chat/te/lu/HAand wrapped itבְתַכְרִיכִיםve/takh/ri/KHIMin linen clothesעִם־הַבְּשָׂמִיםim-hab/be/sa/MIMwith the spicesכְּמִשְׁפַּטke/mish/PATas the manner ofהַיְּהוּדִיםhay/Ye/hu/DIMthe Jewsלִקְבֹּר׃lik/BORto bury

    Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury.

41. 41

    וּבַמָּקוֹםu/vam/ma/KOMand in the placeאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhereנִצְלַבnits/LAVhe was crucifiedהָיָהha/YAthere wasגָןgana gardenוּבַגָּןu/vag/GANand in the gardenקֶבֶרKE/vera tombחָדָשׁcha/DASHnewאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatלֹא־הֻנַּחlo-hun/NACHhad not been laidבּוֹboin itמֵתmeta dead manעַד־הֵנָּה׃ad-HEN/nauntil now

    Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid.

42. 42

    שָׁםshamthereשָׂמוּSA/muthey laidאֶת־יֵשׁוּעַet-Ye/SHU/aJesusכִּי־עֶרֶבki-E/revbecause the Jews' preparationשַׁבָּתshab/BATsabbathהָיָהha/YAit wasלַיְּהוּדִיםlay/Ye/hu/DIMof the Jewsכִּיkiforהַקֶּבֶרhak/KE/verthe tombקָרוֹב׃ka/ROVwas near

    There laid they Jesus therefore because of the Jews' preparation day; for the sepulchre was nigh at hand.
