    אֶת־אֵלֶּהThese thingsדִּבַּרְתִּיhave I spokenאֲלֵיכֶםunto you,לְמַעַןthatלֹאnotתִכָּשֵׁלוּ׃you should be offended.

    These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended.

    הִנֵּהbehold,יְנַדּוּThey shall put out of the synagoguesאֶתְכֶםyou:וְאַףyea,בָּאָהcometh,שָׁעָהthe timeאֲשֶׁרthatכׇּל־הֹרֵגwhosoever killethאֶתְכֶםyouיְדַמֶּהwill thinkלַעֲשׂוֹתthat he doethעֲבוֹדָהservice.לֵאלֹהִים׃God

    They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.

    וְאֶת־אֵלֶּהAnd these thingsיַעֲשׂוּwill they doלָכֶםunto you,יַעַןbecauseגַּם־אֶת־אָבִיthe Father,וְגַם־אֹתִיnor me.לֹאnotיָדָעוּ׃they have known

    And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.

    אֲבָלButהִגַּדְתִּיhave I toldלָכֶםyou,אֶת־אֵלֶּהthese thingsלְמַעַןthatאֲשֶׁר־תִּזְכְּרוּyou may rememberבְּבֹאwhen shall come,הַשָּׁעָהthe timeכִּיthatאָנֹכִיIדִבַּרְתִּיtoldאֲלֵיכֶםyou of them.וּמֵרֹאשׁAnd at the beginning,לֹא־דִּבַּרְתִּיnot I saidאֲלֵיכֶםunto youכָּאֵלֶּהthese thingsכִּיbecauseהָיִיתִיI wasעִמָּכֶם׃with you.

    But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you.

    וְעַתָּהBut nowהֹלֵךְI go my wayאָנֹכִיIאֶל־שֹׁלְחִיto him that sent me;וְלֹאand notיִשְׁאָלֵנִיasketh me,אִישׁnoneמִכֶּםof youאָנָהWhitherתֵלֵךְ׃go you?

    But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou?

    וְעַצֶּבֶתsorrowמָלְאָהhath filledלְבַבְכֶםyour heart.עַל־דַּבְּרִיBut because I have saidאֶת־אֵלֶּהthese thingsאֲלֵיכֶם׃unto you,

    But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.

    אוּלָםNeverthelessאֱמֶתthe truth;אַגִּידI tellלָכֶםyouכִּיthatלֶכְתִּיI go away:אַךְ־טוֹבIt is expedientלָכֶםfor youכִּיforאִם־לֹאif notאֵלֵךְI go away,לֹא־יָבֹאwill not comeאֲלֵיכֶםunto you;הַפְּרַקְלִיטthe Comforterוְאִם־הָלַכְתִּיbut if I depart,אֶשְׁלָחֵהוּI will send himאֲלֵיכֶם׃unto you.

    Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

    וְהָיָהAndכִּי־יָבֹאwhen he is come,וְהוֹכִיחַhe will reproveאֶת־הָעוֹלָםthe worldעַל־דְּבַרofהַחֵטְאsin,וְהַצֶּדֶקand of righteousness,וְהַמִּשְׁפָּט׃and of judgment:

    And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

    עַל־הַחֵטְאOf sin,כִּיbecauseלֹא־הֶאֱמִינוּthey believe notבִי׃on me;

    Of sin, because they believe not on me;

  10. 10

    וְעַל־הַצֶּדֶקOf righteousness,כִּיbecauseאֵלֵךְI goאֶל־אָבִיto my Father,וְלֹאandתוֹסִיפוּno more;לִרְאוֹתseeאֹתִי׃you me

    Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;

    וְעַל־הַמִּשְׁפָּטOf judgment,כִּיbecauseנִדּוֹןis judged.שַׂרthe princeהָעוֹלָםworldהַזֶּה׃of this

    Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

  12. 12

    עוֹדyetרַבּוֹתmany thingsלִיI haveלְהַגִּידto sayלָכֶםunto you,אַךְbutלֹא־תוּכְלוּןyou cannotשְׂאֵתbear themעָתָּה׃now.

    I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.

  13. 13

    וְרוּחַand the Spirit ofהָאֱמֶתtruth,בְּבֹאוֹwhen he is come,הוּאheיַדְרִיךְwill guideאֶתְכֶםyouאֶל־הָאֱמֶתinto truth:כֻּלָּהּallכִּיforלֹאnotיְדַבֵּרshall he speakמֵעַצְמוֹof himself;כִּיbutאִםifאֲשֶׁרwhatsoeverיִשְׁמַעhe shall hear,יְדַבֵּרthat shall he speak:וְהָאֹתִיּוֹתand things to comeיַגִּידhe will shewלָכֶם׃you.

    Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

  14. 14

    הוּאHeיְפָאֲרֵנִיshall glorify me:כִּיforמִשֶּׁלִּיof mine,יִקַּחhe shall receiveוְיַגִּידand shall shew itלָכֶם׃unto you.

    He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

  15. 15

    כֹּלAll thingsאֲשֶׁרthatלְאָבִיthe Father hathלִיare mine:הוּאheעַל־כֵּןthereforeאָמַרְתִּיsaid I,כִּיthatמִשֶּׁלִּיof mine,יִקַּחhe shall takeוְיַגִּידand shall shew itלָכֶם׃unto you.

    All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

    הֵן־מְעַטA little while,וְלֹאand notתִרְאוּנִיyou shall see me:וְעוֹד־מְעַטand again, a little while,וְתֶחֱזוּנִיand you shall see me,כִּי־אֲנִיbecause Iהֹלֵךְgoאֶל־אָבִי׃to the Father.

    A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father.

    וּמִקְצָתThen some ofתַּלְמִידָיוhis disciplesנִדְבְּרוּsaidאִישׁa manאֶל־אָחִיוamong themselves,לֵאמֹרsaying,מָהWhat is thisאׇמְרוֹthat he saithאֵלֵינוּunto us,הֵן־מְעַטA little while,וְלֹאand notתִרְאוּנִיyou shall see me:וְעוֹד־מְעַטand again, a little while,וְתֶחֱזוּנִיand you shall see me:וְאָמְרוֹand, BecauseאֲנִיIהֹלֵךְgoאֶל־אָבִי׃to the Father?

    Then said some of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he saith unto us, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father?

  18. 18

    וַיֹּאמְרוּThey said therefore,מָהWhat is thisאׇמְרוֹthat he saith,מְעָטA little while?לֹאnotיָדַעְנוּwe can tellמַה־דִּבֵּר׃what he saith.

    They said therefore, What is this that he saith, A little while? we cannot tell what he saith.

    וַיֵּדַעknewיֵשׁוּעַNow Jesusכִּיthatעִם־לְבָבָםthey were desirousלִשְׁאֹלto askאֹתוֹhim,וַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,הַעַלDo you enquireהַדָּבָרthe thingהַזֶּהthisתִּדְרְשׁוּdo you enquireזֶהamongאֶת־זֶהyourselvesכִּיof thatאָמַרְתִּיI said,הֵן־מְעַטA little while,וְלֹאand notתִרְאוּנִיyou shall see me:וְעוֹד־מְעַטand again, a little while,וְתֶחֱזוּנִי׃and you shall see me?

    Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do ye inquire among yourselves of that I said, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me?

  20. 20

    אָמֵןVerily,אָמֵןverily,אֲנִיIאֹמֵרsayלָכֶםunto you,כִּיThatאַתֶּםyouתִּבְכּוּshall weepוּתְיֵלִילוּand lament,וְהָעוֹלָםbut the worldיִשְׂמָחshall rejoice:הֵן־אַתֶּםand youתֵּעָצְבוּshall be sorrowful,אָכֵןbutעָצְבְּכֶםyour sorrowיֵהָפֵךְshall be turnedלְשָׁשׁוֹן׃into joy.

    Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.

  21. 21

    הָאִשָּׁהA womanכִּיwhenתַקְרִיבshe isלָלֶדֶתin travailעֶצֶבhath sorrow,לָהּunto herכִּיbecauseמָלְאוּis come:יָמֶיהָher hourוְאַחֲרֵיbut as soon asלִדְתָּהּshe is delivered ofאֶת־הַיֶּלֶדthe child,לֹא־תִזְכֹּרshe remembereth notעוֹדmoreאֶת־עִצְּבוֹנָהּthe anguish,וְהִיאand sheשְׂמֵחָהfor joyכִּי־אָדָםthat a manנוֹלַדis bornלָעוֹלָם׃into the world.

    A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.

  22. 22

    וְגַם־אַתֶּםAnd youכָּעֵתnow thereforeתִּתְעַצָּבוּhave sorrow:וַאֲנִיbut Iאָשׁוּבagain,אֶרְאֶהwill seeאֶתְכֶםyouוְשָׂשׂshall rejoice,לִבְּכֶםand your heartוְאֵין־מֵסִירand no man takethשִׂמְחַתְכֶםyour joyמִכֶּם׃from you.

    And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.

  23. 23

    וּבַיּוֹםAnd in dayהַהוּאthatלֹאnotתִשְׁאָלוּנִיyou shall ask meדָּבָרnothing.אָמֵןVerily,אָמֵןverily,אֲנִיIאֹמֵרsayלָכֶםunto you,כִּיthatכׇּל־אֲשֶׁרWhatsoeverתִּשְׁאֲלוּyou shall askמֵאֵתofאָבִיthe Fatherבִּשְׁמִיin my name,יִתֵּןhe will give itלָכֶם׃you.

    And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.

  24. 24

    עַד־עַתָּהHithertoלֹא־שְׁאֶלְתֶּםhave you askedדָּבָרnothingבִּשְׁמִיin my name:שַׁאֲלוּask,וְתִקְחוּand you shall receive,לְמַעַןthatתִּמָּלֵאmay be full.שִׂמְחַתְכֶם׃your joy

    Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

  25. 25

    אֶת־אֵלֶּהThese thingsדִּבַּרְתִּיhave I spokenאֲלֵיכֶםunto youבִּמְשָׁלִיםin proverbs:וְהִנֵּהbutשָׁעָהthe timeבָאָהcometh,וְלֹאwhen no moreאֲדַבֵּרI shall speakעוֹדyetאֲלֵיכֶםunto youבִּמְשָׁלִיםin proverbs,כִּיbutאִם־בָּרוּרplainlyאֲדַבֵּרI shall shewלָכֶםyouעַל־דְּבַרofאָבִי׃the Father.

    These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall shew you plainly of the Father.

  26. 26

    בַּיּוֹםAt dayהַהוּאthatתִּשְׁאֲלוּyou shall askבִשְׁמִיin my name:וְאֵינֶנִּיand I notאֹמֵרsayלָכֶםunto you,אֲשֶׁרthatאֲנִיIאַעְתִּירwill prayלְאָבִיthe Fatherבַּעַדְכֶם׃for you:

    At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you:

  27. 27

    כִּי־אָבִיFor the Fatherגַּם־הוּאhimselfאֹהֵבlovethאֶתְכֶםyou,עֵקֶבbecauseאֲשֶׁרwhichאֲהַבְתּוּנִיyou have loved me,וְהֶאֱמַנְתֶּםand have believedכִּי־מֵאֵתthat fromאֱלֹהִיםGod.יָצָאתִי׃I came out

    For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.

  28. 28

    מֵאֵתfromהָאָבthe Father,יָצָאתִיI came forthוָאָבֹאand am comeלָעוֹלָםinto the world:אָשׁוּבָהagain,אָסוּרI leaveמִן־הָעוֹלָםthe world,וְאֵלֵךְand goאֶל־אָבִי׃to the Father.

    I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.

  29. 29

    וַיֹּאמְרוּsaidאֵלָיוunto him,תַּלְמִידָיוHis disciplesהִנֵּהLo,כָעֵתnowבָּרוּרplainly,תְּמַלֵּלspeak youוְלֹאand noתִמְשֹׁלspeakestמָשָׁל׃proverb.

    His disciples said unto him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no proverb.

  30. 30

    עַתָּהNowיָדַעְנוּare we sureכִּי־כֹלthat all things,יָדַעְתָּyou knowוְלֹאand notתִצְטָרֵךְneedestאֲשֶׁרthatיִשְׁאָלְךָshould ask you:אִישׁany manבָּזֹאתby thisנַאֲמִיןwe believeכִּיthatמֵאֵתfromאֱלֹהִיםGod.יָצָאתָ׃you came forth

    Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest forth from God.

  31. 31

    וַיַּעַןansweredיֵשׁוּעַJesusוַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,עַתָּהDo you nowתַאֲמִינוּ׃believe?

    Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe?

  32. 32

    הִנֵּהBehold,שָׁעָהthe hourבָאָהcometh,וְעַתָּהyea, nowזֶהthisהִגִּיעָהis come,וּנְפֹצוֹתֶםthat you shall be scattered,אִישׁevery manלְבֵיתוֹto his own,וְאֹתִיand meתַעַזְבוּshall leaveלְבַדִּיalone:וְאֵינֶנִּיand I am notלְבַדִּיalone,כִּיbecauseאָבִיthe Fatherעִמָּדִי׃is with me.

    Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.

  33. 33

    אֶת־אֵלֶּהThese thingsדִּבַּרְתִּיI have spokenאֲלֵיכֶםunto you,לְמַעַןthatיִהְיֶה־לָכֶםyou might haveשָׁלוֹםpeace.בִּיin meצָרָהtribulation:לָכֶםyou shall haveבָּעוֹלָםIn the worldאַךְ־יַאֲמֵץbut be of good cheer;לְבַבְכֶםyour heart;אֲנִיIנִצַּחְתִּיhave overcomeאֶת־הָעוֹלָם׃the world.

    These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
