    וְלִפְנֵיNow beforeחַגthe feast ofהַפֶּסַחthe passover,כְּשֶׁיָּדַעwhen knewיֵשׁוּעַJesusכִּיthatבָאָהwas comeשַׁעְתּוֹhis hourלַעֲבֹרthat he should departמִן־הָעוֹלָםout of worldהַזֶּהthisאֶל־אָבִיוunto the Father,כַּאֲשֶׁרhavingאָהַבlovedאֶת־בְּחִירָיוhis ownאֲשֶׁרwhich wereבָּעוֹלָםin the world,כֵּןsoאֲהֵבָםhe loved themעַד־הַקֵּץ׃unto the end.

    Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.

    וַיְהִיAnd it came to passבִּסְעוּדַתat the supper ofהָעֶרֶבthe evening,וְהַשָּׂטָןthe devilנָתַןhaving putבְּלֵבinto the heartיְהוּדָהof Judasבֶן־שִׁמְעוֹןSimon's son,אִישׁa man ofקְרִיּוֹתIscariot,לְמָסְרוֹ׃to betray him;

    And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him;

    וַיֵּדַעknowingיֵשׁוּעַJesusכִּיthatנָתַןhad givenאָבִיוthe Fatherאֶת־הַכֹּלall thingsבְּיָדוֹinto his hands,וְכִיand thatמֵאֵתfromאֱלֹהִיםGod,בָּאhe was comeוְאֶל־אֱלֹהִיםand to God;יָשׁוּב׃went

    Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God;

    וַיָּקׇםHe risethמֵעַלfromהַשֻּׁלְחָןsupper,וַיִּפְשַׁטand laid asideאֶת־בְּגָדָיוhis garments;וַיִּקַּחand tookמִטְפַּחַתa towel,וַיַּחְגְּרֶהָ׃and girded himself.

    He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself.

    וְאַחַרAfter thatיָצַקhe pourethמַיִםwaterבַּכִּיּוֹרinto a bason,וַיָּחֶלand beganלִרְחֹץto washאֶת־רַגְלֵיthe feet ofתַלְמִידָיוthe disciples',וּלְנַגֵּבand to wipe themבַּמִּטְפַּחַתwith the towelאֲשֶׁר־הוּאwherewithחָגוּרhe was girded.בָּהּ׃in it

    After that he poureth water into a basin, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.

    וַיִּגַּשׁThen cometh heאֶל־שִׁמְעוֹןto SimonפֶּטְרוֹסPeter:וְהוּאandאָמַרsaithאֵלָיוunto him,אֲדֹנִיLord,הַאַתָּהdo youתִּרְחַץwashאֶת־רַגְלָי׃my feet?

    Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?

    וַיַּעַןansweredיֵשׁוּעַJesusוַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֵלָיוunto him,אֵת־אֲשֶׁרWhatאֲנִיIעֹשֶׂהdoאֵינְךָyouיֹדֵעַknowest notכָּעֵתnow;וְאַחֲרֵי־כֵןbut hereafterתֵּדָע׃you shall know.

    Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.

    וַיֹּאמֶרsaithאֵלָיוunto him,פֶּטְרוֹסPeterלֹא־תִרְחַץYou shall never washאֶת־רַגְלַיmy feetלְעוֹלָםfor ever.וַיַּעַןansweredאֹתוֹhim,יֵשׁוּעַJesusאִם־לֹאIf notאֶרְחַץI washאֹתְךָyou,אֵיןyou have noלְךָunto youחֵלֶקpartעִמִּי׃with me.

    Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.

    וַיֹּאמֶרsaithאֵלָיוunto him,שִׁמְעוֹןSimonפֶּטְרוֹסPeterאֲדֹנִיLord,לֹאnotאֶת־רַגְלַיmy feetלְבָדonly,כִּיbutגַּםalsoאֶת־יָדַיmy handsוְאֶת־רֹאשִׁי׃and my head.

    Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.

    וַיֹּאמֶרsaithאֵלָיוto him,יֵשׁוּעַJesusהַמְרֻחָץHe that is washedאֵין־לוֹneedeth notלִרְחֹץto washעוֹדsaveכִּיbutאִם־אֶת־רַגְלָיוhis feet,כִּיbutכֻלּוֹevery whit:טָהוֹרis cleanהוּאheוְאַתֶּםand youטְהוֹרִיםare clean,אַךְbutלֹאnotכֻלְּכֶם׃all.

    Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.

    כִּיForיָדַעhe knewמִיwhoיִמְסְרֵיהוּshould betray him;עַל־כֵּןthereforeאָמַרsaid he,לֹאnotכֻלְּכֶםYou are allטְהוֹרִים׃clean.

    For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean.

    וַיְהִיSoאַחֲרֵיafterאֲשֶׁר־רָחַץhe had washedאֶת־רַגְלֵיהֶםtheir feet,וַיִּלְבַּשׁand had takenאֶת־בְּגָדָיוhis garments,וַיָּשׇׁבand was set downלְהָסֵבagain,וַיֹּאמֶרhe saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto them,הַיְדַעְתֶּםKnow youמָהwhatהַדָּבָרis the thingאֲשֶׁרwhichעָשִׂיתִיI have doneלָכֶם׃to you?

    So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you?

    אַתֶּםYouקֹרְאִים־לִיcall meמוֹרֶהMasterוְאָדוֹןand Lord:וְהֵיטַבְתֶּםand you say well;אֲשֶׁרwhichדִּבַּרְתֶּםyou have said,כִּי־אֲנִיfor so Iהוּא׃am.

    Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.

    לָכֵןthen,אִם־אֲנִיIf IהַמּוֹרֶהMaster,וְהָאָדוֹןyour Lord andרָחַצְתִּיhave washedאֶת־רַגְלֵיכֶםyour feet;גַּם־אַתֶּםyou alsoחַיָּבִיםoughtלִרְחֹץto washאִישׁoneאֶת־רַגְלֵיfeet ofאָחִיו׃another's.

    If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet.

  15. 15

    כִּיForמוֹפֵתan example,נָתַתִּיI have givenלָכֶםyouלְמַעַןthatתַּעֲשׂוּyou should doגַם־אַתֶּםyou alsoכַּאֲשֶׁרasעָשִׂיתִיI have doneלָכֶם׃to you.

    For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.

    אָמֵןVerily,אָמֵןverily,אֲנִיIאֹמֵרsayלָכֶםunto you,אֵיןnotהָעֶבֶדThe servantגָּדוֹלis greaterמֵאֲדֹנָיוthan his lord;וְאֵיןneitherהַשָּׁלִיחַhe that is sentגָּדוֹלgreaterמִשֹּׁלְחוֹ׃than he that sent him.

    Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.

    אִם־יְדַעְתֶּםIf you knowזֹאתthese things,אַשְׁרֵיכֶםhappy are youבַּעֲשֹׁוֹתְכֶםif you doכֵּן׃them.

    If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.

  18. 18

    לֹאnotעַל־כֻּלְּכֶםof you all:דִּבַּרְתִּיI speakיוֹדֵעַknowאֲנִיIאֶת־אֲשֶׁרwhomבָּחַרְתִּיI have chosen:בָהֶםin them:אַךְbutלְמַעַןthatיִמָּלֵאmay be fulfilled,הַכָּתוּבthe scriptureאוֹכֵלHe that eatethלַחְמִיbread with meהִגְדִּילhath lifted upעָלַיagainst meעָקֵב׃his heel.

    I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me.

    מֵעַתָּהNowאֲנִיIאֹמֵרtellלָכֶםyouבְּטֶרֶםbeforeהֱיוֹתָהּit come,לְמַעַןthat,תָּבֹאwhen it is come to pass,וְהֶאֱמַנְתֶּםyou may believeכִּיthatאֲנִיI amהוּא׃he.

    Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he.

  20. 20

    אָמֵןVerily,אָמֵןverily,אֲנִיIאֹמֵרsayלָכֶםunto you,כִּיthatכׇל־הַמְקַבֵּלHe that receivethאֵת־אֲשֶׁרwhomsoeverאֶשְׁלָחֵהוּI sendאֹתִיme;מְקַבֵּלreceivethוְהַמְקַבֵּלand he that receivethאֹתִיmeמְקַבֵּלreceivethאֶת־שֹׁלְחִי׃him that sent me.

    Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.

  21. 21

    וַיְהִיAnd it came to passכְּכַלּוֹתwhen had thus said,יֵשׁוּעַJesusלְדַבֵּרto speakהַדְּבָרִיםthingsהָאֵלֶּהtheseוַיִּבָּהֵלhe was troubledבְּרוּחוֹin spirit,וַיָּעַדand testified,וַיֹּאמֶרand said,אָמֵןVerily,אָמֵןverily,אֲנִיIאֹמֵרsayלָכֶםunto you,כִּיthatאֶחָדoneמִכֶּםof youיִמְסְרֵנִי׃shall betray me.

    When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.

    וַיַּבִּיטוּlookedתַלְמִידָיוThen the disciplesוַיִּתְמְהוּdoubtingאִישׁoneאֶל־רֵעֵהוּon another,כִּיforנָבוֹכוּthey doubted,וְלֹאand notיָדְעוּthey knewעַל־מִיof whomדִבֵּר׃he spake.

    Then the disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spake.

  23. 23

    וְאֶחָדNow oneמִתַּלְמִידָיוof his disciples,אֲשֶׁרwhomיֵשׁוּעַJesusאֲהֵבוֹloved,מֵסֵבwas leaningעַל־חֵיקon the bosom ofיֵשׁוּעַ׃Jesus.

    Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.

  24. 24

    וַיִּרְמָז־לוֹtherefore beckoned to him,שִׁמְעוֹןSimonפֶּטְרוֹסPeterלִדְרֹשׂthat he should askמִי־הוּאwhoזֶהit should beאֲשֶׁרof whomדִּבֶּרhe spake.עָלָיו׃of him.

    Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, that he should ask who it should be of whom he spake.

    וַיִּפֹּלHe then lyingעַל־לֵבon breast ofיֵשׁוּעַJesusוַיֹּאמֶרsaithאֵלָיוunto him,אֲדֹנִיLord,מִיwhoהוּא׃is it?

    He then lying on Jesus' breast saith unto him, Lord, who is it?

  26. 26

    וַיַּעַןanswered,יֵשׁוּעַJesusהִנֵּהbehold,זֶהHe itהוּאis,אֲשֶׁר־אֶטְבֹּלto whom when I have dippedפְּרוּסָתִיthe sop,לְתִתָּהּI shall give it.לוֹunto himוַיִּטְבֹּלAnd when he had dippedאֶת־פְּרוּסָתוֹthe sop,וַיִּתֵּןhe gave itאֶל־יְהוּדָהto Judasבֶן־שִׁמְעוֹןthe son of Simon,אִישׁa man ofקְרִיּוֹת׃Iscariot.

    Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall give a sop, when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.

  27. 27

    וְאַחֲרֵיAnd afterבִלְעוֹthe sopבָּאenteredהַשָּׂטָןSatanאֶל־קִרְבּוֹinto him.וַיֹּאמֶרThen saidאֵלָיוunto him,יֵשׁוּעַJesusאֵת־אֲשֶׁר־תַּעֲשֶׂהThat you do,עֲשֵׂהdoמְהֵרָה׃quickly.

    And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly.

  28. 28

    וּמִן־הַמְסֻבִּיםNow of them at the tableלֹא־יָדַעno man knewאִישׁa manעַל־מֶהfor what intentדִּבֶּרhe spakeאֵלָיוunto himכָּזֹאת׃this.

    Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spake this unto him.

  29. 29

    כִּיForיֵשׁsomeאֲשֶׁרwhichחָשְׁבוּof them thought,כִּי־אָמַרthat had saidאֵלָיוunto him,יֵשׁוּעַJesusקְנֵה־לָנוּBuyצׇרְכֵיthose things that we have need of againstהֶחָגthe feast;אוֹor,לָתֵתthat he should give somethingלָאֶבְיוֹנִיםto the poor.יַעַןbecauseאֲשֶׁרwhichכִּיסthe bag,הַכֶּסֶףof the moneyבְּיַדin hand ofיְהוּדָה׃Judas had

    For some of them thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus had said unto him, Buy those things that we have need of against the feast; or, that he should give something to the poor.

  30. 30

    וְהוּאHe thenבְּקַחְתּוֹhaving receivedאֶת־פְּרוּסַתthe sopהַלֶּחֶםthe breadמִהֵרimmediatelyלָצֵאתwentהַחוּצָהout:וְלַיְלָהand night.הָיָה׃it was

    He then having received the sop went immediately out: and it was night.

  31. 31

    הוּאheיָצָאTherefore, when he was gone out,וְיֵשׁוּעַJesusאָמַרsaid,עַתָּהNowנִתְפָּאַרis glorified,בֶּן־הָאָדָםthe Son of manוְהַאֱלֹהִיםand Godנִתְפָּאַרis glorifiedבּוֹ׃in him.

    Therefore, when he was gone out, Jesus said, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him.

  32. 32

    הֵןIfהָאֱלֹהִיםGodנִתְפָּאַרbe glorifiedבּוֹin him,וְגַםalsoיְפָּאֲרֵנוּshall glorify himהָאֱלֹהִיםGodבְּעַצְמוֹin himself,וּבִמְהֵרָהand shall straightwayיְפָאֲרֵהוּ׃glorify him.

    If God be glorified in him, God shall also glorify him in himself, and shall straightway glorify him.

    בָּנַיLittle children,עוֹד־מְעַטyet a little whileמִזְעָרa littleאֶהְיֶהI amעִמָּכֶםwith you.אַתֶּםYouתְּבַקְשׁוּנִיshall seek me:וְכַאֲשֶׁרand asאָמַרְתִּיI saidאֶל־הַיְּהוּדִיםunto the Jews,כִּיthat,אֶל־אֲשֶׁרWhitherאֲנִיIהוֹלֵךְgo,לֹאnotתוּכְלוּyou canלָבוֹאcome;שָׁמָּהthitherכֵּןsoאֲנִיIאֹמֵרsayאֲלֵיכֶםto youעָתָּה׃now.

    Little children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me: and as I said unto the Jews, Whither I go, ye cannot come; so now I say to you.

    מִצְוָהcommandmentחֲדָשָׁהA newאֲנִיIנֹתֵןgiveלָכֶםunto you,אֲשֶׁרThatתְּאֵהֲבוּyou loveאִישׁoneאֶת־אָחִיוanother;כַּאֲשֶׁרasאָהַבְתִּיI have lovedאֶתְכֶםyou,כֵּןsoגַּם־אַתֶּםthat you alsoאִישׁoneאֶת־אָחִיוanother.תֶּאֱהָבוּן׃love

    A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

  35. 35

    בָּזֹאתBy thisיֵדְעוּshall knowכֻּלָּםall menכִּיthatתַלְמִידִיםdisciples,אַתֶּםyou areלִיmyתִּשְׁכֹּןif you haveאַהֲבָהloveבֵּינֵיכֶם׃one to another.

    By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

  36. 36

    וַיֹּאמֶרsaidאֵלָיוunto him,פֶּטְרוֹסPeterאֲדֹנִיLord,אָנָהwhitherתֵלֵךְgo you?וַיַּעַןansweredאֹתוֹhim,יֵשׁוּעַJesusאֶל־אֲשֶׁרWhitherאֲנִיIהוֹלֵךְgo,שָׁמָּהthitherלֹא־תוּכַלyou can notעַתָּהnow;לָלֶכֶתfollowאַחֲרָיmeוְאַחֲרֵי־כֵןbut afterwardsתֵּלֵךְyou shall followאַחֲרָי׃me.

    Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow me afterwards.

  37. 37

    וַיֹּאמֶרsaidאֵלָיוunto him,פֶּטְרוֹסPeterמַדּוּעַLord, whyלֹא־אוּכַלcannot Iעַתָּהnow?לָלֶכֶתfollowאַחֲרֶיךָyouהֵן־נַפְּשִׁיmy lifeאֶתֵּןI will lay downבְּעַד־נַפְשֶׁךָ׃for your sake.

    Peter said unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thy sake.

  38. 38

    וַיַּעַןansweredאֹתוֹhim,יֵשׁוּעַJesusהֲתִתֵּןWill you lay downנַפְשְׁךָyour lifeבְּעַדfor sake?נַפְשִׁיmyאָמֵןVerily,אָמֵןverily,אֲנִיIאֹמֵרsay unto you,בְּטֶרֶםtillיִקְרָאshall crow,הַתַּרְנְגֹלThe cockתְּכַחֵשׁyou have deniedבִּיmeשָׁלֹשׁthreeפְּעָמִים׃times.

    Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice.
