   Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.

   (It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.)

   Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.

   When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.

   Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.

   וּכְשׇׁמְעוֹu/khe/shom/Oand when he heardכִּיkithatחָלָהcha/LAhe was sickוַיִּתְמַהְמָהּvay/yit/mah/MAand he lingeredוַיֵּשֶׁבvay/YE/shevand stayedיוֹמַיִםyo/MA/yimtwo days stillבַּמָּקוֹםbam/ma/KOMin the placeאֲשֶׁר־הוּאa/SHER-huwhere he wasשָׁם׃shamthere

   When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was.

   וּמֵאַחֲרֵי־כֵןu/me/a/cha/RE-khenand after thisאָמַרa/MARhe saidלְתַלְמִידָיוle/tal/mi/DAYVto his disciplesלְכוּle/KHUcomeוְנָשׁוּבָהve/na/SHU/vaand let us returnאֶל־אֶרֶץel-E/retsto the land ofיְהוּדָה׃Ye/hu/DAJudaea

   Then after that saith he to his disciples, Let us go into Judæa again.

   וַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himתַּלְמִידָיוtal/mi/DAYVhis disciplesרַבִּיrab/BIrabbiעַתָּהat/TAnowזֶהzejustבִּקְשׁוּbik/SHUwere seekingהַיְּהוּדִיםhay/Ye/hu/DIMthe Jewsלְסָקְלְךָle/sa/ke/le/KHAto stone youוְאַתָּהve/at/TAand youתָּשׁוּבta/SHUVare returningשָׁמָּה׃SHAM/mathere

   His disciples say unto him, Master, the Jews of late sought to stone thee; and goest thou thither again?

   וַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand answeredיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusהֲלֹאha/LOare there notשְׁתֵּים־עֶשְׁרֶהshtem-esh/REtwelveשָׁעוֹתsha/OThoursלַיּוֹםlay/YOMto the dayאִישׁisha manכִּי־יֵלֵךְki-ye/LEKHif walksבַּיּוֹםbay/YOMin the dayלֹאlonotיִכָּשֵׁלyik/ka/SHELdoes he stumbleכִּיkibecauseיִרְאֶהyir/Ehe seesאוֹרorthe light ofהָעוֹלָםha/o/LAMworldהַזֶּה׃haz/ZEthis

   Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world.

    וְהַהֹלֵךְve/ha/ho/LEKHand whoever walksבַּלַּיְלָהbal/LAY/lain the nightיִכָּשֵׁלyik/ka/SHELstumblesכִּיkibecauseהָאוֹרha/ORthe lightאֵינֶנּוּe/NEN/nuis notבוֹ׃voin him

    But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him.

    וְאַחֲרֵיve/a/cha/REand afterדַבְּרוֹdab/be/ROhis speakingכָּזֹאתka/ZOTlike thisאָמַרa/MARhe saidאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themלַעְזָרLa/ZARLazarusיְדִידֵנוּye/di/de/NUour friendיָשֵׁןya/SHENis sleepingהוּאhuheוְאָנֹכִיve/a/no/KHIand Iהֹלֵךְho/LEKHam goingלְמַעַןle/MA/anso thatאֲעִירֶנּוּ׃a/i/ren/NUI may wake him

    These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.

    וַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidתַּלְמִידָיוtal/mi/DAYVhis disciplesאֲדֹנִיa/do/NImy Lordאִם־יָשֵׁןim-ya/SHENif sleepingהוּאhuhe isיִרְפָּאyir/PAhealing will comeלוֹ׃loto him

    Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well.

    וְיֵשׁוּעַve/Ye/SHU/aand Jesusדִּבֶּרdib/BERspokeעַל־מוֹתוֹal-mo/TOabout his deathוְהֵמָּהve/HEM/maand theyחָשְׁבוּcha/she/VUthoughtכִּיkithatעַל־מְנוּחַתal-me/nu/CHATabout the rest ofהַשֵּׁנָהhash/she/NAsleepדִּבֵּר׃dib/BERhe spoke

    Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep.

14. 14

    אָזazthenאָמַרa/MARsaidיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themמְפוֹרָשׁme/fo/RASHplainlyלַעְזָרLa/ZARLazarusמֵת׃methas died

    Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead.

15. 15

    וְשָׂמֵחַve/sa/ME/achand gladאֲנִיa/NIam Iבִּגְלַלְכֶםbig/lal/KHEMfor your sakeכִּיkithatלֹא־הָיִיתִיlo-ha/YI/tiI was notשָׁםshamthereלְמַעַןle/MA/anso thatתַּאֲמִינוּta/a/MI/nuyou may believeוְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowנִסְעָהnis/Alet us set outוְנֵלְכָהve/nel/KHAand let us goאֵלָיו׃e/LAYVto him

    And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him.

16. 16

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidתּוֹמָאTo/MAThomasהַנִּקְרָאhan/nik/RAwho is calledדִידוּמוֹסDi/du/MOSDidymusאֶל־הַתַּלְמִידִיםel-hat/tal/mi/DIMto the disciplesחֲבֵרָיוcha/ve/RAYVhis fellowsנֵלְכָהnel/KHAlet us goגַם־אֲנַחְנוּgam-a/NACH/nuwe alsoלְמַעַןle/MA/anso thatנָמוּתna/MUTwe may dieעִמּוֹ׃im/MOwith him

    Then said Thomas, which is called Didymus, unto his fellowdisciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him.

17. 17

    וַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusוַיִּמְצָאֵהוּvay/yim/tsa/E/huand found himזֶהzealreadyאַרְבָּעָהar/ba/Afourיָמִיםya/MIMdaysשֹׁכֵבsho/KHEVlyingבַּקָּבֶר׃bak/KA/verin the tomb

    Then when Jesus came, he found that he had lain in the grave four days already.

18. 18

    וּבֵית־הִינִיu/VET-hi/NIand Bethanyקָרוֹבka/ROVwas nearלִירוּשָׁלָיִםlI/ru/sha/LA/yimto Jerusalemכְּדֶרֶךְke/DE/rekhabout a distance ofחֲמֵשׁcha/MESHfiveעֶשְׂרֵהes/REtenרִיס׃risstadia

    Now Bethany was nigh unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off:

19. 19

    וְרַבִּיםve/rab/BIMand manyמִן־הַיְּהוּדִיםmin-Hay/ye/hu/DIMof the JewsבָּאוּBA/uhad comeבֵּית־מָרְתָאbet-Ma/re/TAto the house of Marthaוּמִרְיָםu/Mir/YAMand Maryלְנַחֵםle/na/CHEMto comfortאֶתְהֶןet/HENthemעַל־אֲחִיהֶן׃al-a/chi/HENabout their brother

    And many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.

20. 20

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכִּשְׁמֹעַkish/MO/awhen heardמָרְתָאMa/re/TAMarthaכִּיkithatבָאvawas comingיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusוַתֵּצֵאvat/te/TSEand she went outלִקְרָאתוֹlik/ra/TOto meet himוּמִרְיָםu/Mir/YAMand Maryיוֹשֶׁבֶתyo/SHE/vetwas sittingבַּבָּיִת׃bab/BA/yitin the house

    Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary sat still in the house.

21. 21

    וַתֹּאמֶרvat/TO/merand saidמָרְתָאMa/re/TAMarthaאֶל־יֵשׁוּעַel-Ye/SHU/ato Jesusאֲדֹנִיa/do/NImy Lordלוּluifהָיִיתָha/YI/tayou had beenפֹּהpohereכִּי־אָזki-azthenלֹא־מֵתlo-metwould not have diedאָחִי׃a/CHImy brother

    Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.

22. 22

    וְגַם־עַתָּהve/GAM-at/TAand even nowיָדַעְתִּיya/DA/tiI knowכִּיkithatכׇל־אֲשֶׁרkhol-a/SHERall thatתִּשְׁאַלtish/ALyou askמֵאֵתme/ETfromאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodיִתֵּןyit/TENwill giveלְךָle/KHAto youאֱלֹהִים׃e/lo/HIMGod

    But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee.

23. 23

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵלֶיהָe/LE/hato herיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusאָחִיךְa/CHIKHyour brotherקוֹםkomriseיָקוּם׃ya/KUMwill rise

    Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.

24. 24

    וַתֹּאמֶרvat/TO/merand saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himמָרְתָאMa/re/TAMarthaיָדַעְתִּיya/DA/tiI knowכִּיkithatיָקוּםya/KUMhe will riseבַּתְּקוּמָהbat/te/ku/MAin the resurrectionבַּיּוֹםbay/YOMon the dayהָאַחֲרוֹן׃ha/a/cha/RONthe last

    Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.

25. 25

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵלֶיהָe/LE/hato herיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusאָנֹכִיa/no/KHII amהַתְּקוּמָהhat/te/ku/MAthe resurrectionוְהַחַיִּיםve/ha/chay/YIMand the lifeהַמַּאֲמִיןham/ma/a/MINwhoever believesבִּיbiin meיִחְיֶהyich/YEwill liveגַּםgamevenכִּי־יָמוּת׃ki-ya/MUTif he dies

    Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:

26. 26

    וְכׇל־הַחַיve/KHOL-ha/CHAYand everyone who livesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERandיַאֲמִין־בִּיya/a/MIN-bibelieves in meלֹא־יָמוּתlo-ya/MUTwill not dieלְעוֹלָםle/o/LAMforeverהֲתַאֲמִינִיha/ta/a/mi/NIdo you believeלַדָּבָרlad/da/VARthe wordהַזֶּה׃haz/ZEthis

    And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

27. 27

    וַתֹּאמֶרvat/TO/merand saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himכֵּןkenyesאֲדֹנִיa/do/NImy Lordהֶאֱמַנְתִּיhe/e/MAN/tiI have believedכִּי־אַתָּהki-at/TAthat you areהַמָּשִׁיחַham/Ma/SHI/achthe Messiahבֶּן־הָאֱלֹהִיםben-Ha/e/lo/HIMthe Son of Godהַבָּאhab/BAwho comesלָעוֹלָם׃la/o/LAMinto the world

    She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.

28. 28

    זֹאתzotthisדִּבְּרָהdib/be/RAshe spokeוְהָלְכָהve/ha/le/KHAand she wentוְקָרְאָהve/ka/re/Aand calledלְמִרְיָםLe/mir/YAMMaryאֲחוֹתָהּa/cho/TAher sisterבַּסֵּתֶרbas/SE/terin secretלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdהַמּוֹרֶהham/mo/REthe teacherפֹּהpois hereוְהוּאve/HUand heקֹרֵאko/REis callingלָךְ׃lakhfor you

    And when she had so said, she went her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master is come, and calleth for thee.

    הִיאhisheשָׁמְעָהsha/me/Aheardוַתָּקׇםvat/TA/komand she roseמְהֵרָהme/he/RAquicklyוַתָּבֹאvat/ta/VOand cameאֵלָיו׃e/LAYVto him

    As soon as she heard that, she arose quickly, and came unto him.

30. 30

    וְיֵשׁוּעַve/Ye/SHU/aand JesusטֶרֶםTE/remhad not yetיָבֹאya/VOcomeאֶל־הַכְּפָרel-hak/ke/FARinto the villageכִּי־עוֹדֶנּוּki-o/DEN/nubut was stillעֹמֵדo/MEDstandingבַּמָּקוֹםbam/ma/KOMin the placeאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhereפְּגָשַׁתּוּ־שָׁםpe/ga/shat/TU-shammet him thereמָרְתָא׃Ma/re/TAMartha

    Now Jesus was not yet come into the town, but was in that place where Martha met him.

31. 31

    וְהַיְּהוּדִיםve/hay/Ye/hu/DIMand the Jewsאֲשֶׁר־בָּאוּa/SHER-BA/uwho had comeאֶל־בֵּיתָהּel-be/TAto her houseלְנַחֲמָהּle/na/cha/MAto comfort herכִּרְאוֹתָםkir/o/TAMwhen they sawאֶת־מִרְיָםet-Mir/YAMMaryכִּי־קָמָהki-KA/mathat she roseפִתְאֹםfit/OMsuddenlyוַתֵּצֵאvat/te/TSEand went outהָלְכוּha/le/KHUwentאַחֲרֶיהָa/cha/RE/haafter herכִּיkiforאָמְרוּa/me/RUthey saidהָלְכָהha/le/KHAshe is goingאֶל־הַקֶּבֶרel-hak/KE/verto the tombלִבְכּוֹתliv/KOTto weepשָׁמָּה׃SHAM/mathere

    The Jews then which were with her in the house, and comforted her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up hastily and went out, followed her, saying, She goeth unto the grave to weep there.

    וַתָּבֹאvat/ta/VOand cameמִרְיָםMir/YAMMaryאֶל־הַמָּקוֹםel-ham/ma/KOMto the placeאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhereיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusעֹמֵדo/MEDwas standingשָׁםshamthereוַתֵּרֶאvat/TE/reand she sawאֹתוֹo/TOhimוַתִּפֹּלvat/tip/POLand she fellלְרַגְלָיוle/rag/LAYVat his feetוַתֹּאמֶרvat/TO/merand saidלוֹloto himאֲדֹנִיa/do/NImy Lordלוּluifהָיִיתָha/YI/tayou had beenפֹּהpohereכִּי־אָזki-azthenלֹא־מֵתlo-metwould not have diedאָחִי׃a/CHImy brother

    Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.

33. 33

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכִּרְאוֹתkir/OTwhen sawיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusאֹתָהּo/TAherבֹּכִיָּהbo/khiy/YAweepingוְגַם־הַיְּהוּדִיםve/GAM-hay/ye/hu/DIMand also the Jewsאֲשֶׁר־בָּאוּa/SHER-BA/uwho had comeאִתָּהּit/TAwith herבֹּכִיםbo/KHIMweepingוַתִּזְעֹםvat/tiz/OMand was indignantרוּחוֹru/CHOhis spiritוַיְהִיvay/HIand he wasמַרְעִיד׃mar/IDtrembling

    When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled,

34. 34

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵיפֹהe/FOwhereהִנַּחְתֶּםhin/nach/TEMhave you laidאֹתוֹo/TOhimוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himאֲדֹנִיa/do/NImy Lordבֹּאbocomeוּרְאֵה׃u/re/Eand see

    And said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see.

35. 35

    וַיֵּבְךְּvay/YEVKand weptיֵשׁוּעַ׃Ye/SHU/aJesus

    Jesus wept.

36. 36

    וַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidהַיְּהוּדִיםhay/Ye/hu/DIMthe Jewsהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdמָהmahowרַבָּהrab/BAgreat isהָאַהֲבָהha/a/ha/VAthe loveאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatאֲהֵבוֹ׃a/he/VOhe loved him

    Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him!

37. 37

    וְיֵשׁve/YESHand there areאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoאָמְרוּa/me/RUsaidהַפֹּקֵחַhap/po/KE/achthe one who openedעֵינֵיe/NEthe eyes ofהָעִוֵּרha/iv/VERthe blindהֲלֹאha/LOwas notגַּם־יָכֹלgam-ya/KHOLalso ableלַחֲשֹׂךְla/cha/SOKHto keep backאֹתוֹo/TOhimמִמָּוֶת׃mim/MA/vetfrom death

    And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died?

38. 38

    וַיּוֹסֶףvay/YO/sefand againעוֹדodstillיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusלְהִזָּעֵםle/hiz/za/EMwas indignantבְּרוּחוֹbe/ru/CHOin his spiritוַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameאֶל־הַקֶּבֶרel-hak/KE/verto the tombוְהוּאve/HUand it wasמְעָרָהme/a/RAa caveוְאֶבֶןve/E/venand a stoneעַל־מְבוֹאָהּ׃al-me/vo/Aon its entrance

    Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusשְׂאוּse/Uliftאֶת־הָאֶבֶןet-ha/E/venthe stoneמֵעָלֶיהָme/a/LE/hafrom on itוַתֹּאמֶרvat/TO/merand saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himמָרְתָאMa/re/TAMarthaאֲחוֹתa/CHOTthe sister ofהַמֵּתham/METthe dead manאֲדֹנִיa/do/NImy Lordהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdכְּבָרke/VARalreadyבָּאָשׁba/ASHhe stinksכִּי־אַרְבָּעָהki-ar/ba/Afor fourיָמִיםya/MIMdaysלוֹ׃loto him

    Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵלֶיהָe/LE/hato herיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusהֲלֹאha/LOdid notאָמַרְתִּיa/MAR/tiI sayלָךְlakhto youכִּיkithatאִם־תַּאֲמִינִיim-ta/a/mi/NIif you believeתֶּחֲזִיte/cha/ZIyou will beholdאֶת־כְּבוֹדet-ke/VODthe glory ofהָאֱלֹהִים׃ha/e/lo/HIMGod

    Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?

41. 41

    וַיִּשְׂאוּvay/yis/Uand they liftedאֶת־הָאֶבֶןet-ha/E/venthe stoneאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhereהַמֵּתham/METthe dead manהוּשַׂםhu/SAMwas laidשָׁםshamthereוְיֵשׁוּעַve/Ye/SHU/aand Jesusנָשָׂאna/SAliftedאֶת־עֵינָיוet-e/NAYVhis eyesלַמָּרוֹםlam/ma/ROMupwardוַיֹּאמַרvay/yo/MARand saidאוֹדְךָod/KHAI thank YouאָבִיA/VImy Fatherכִּיkithatעֲנִיתָנִי׃a/ni/TA/niYou have answered me

    Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.

    וַאֲנִיva/a/NIand Iיָדַעְתִּיya/DA/tiknowכִּיkithatתַעֲנֵנִיta/a/NE/niYou answer meתָּמִידta/MIDalwaysוְאוּלָםve/u/LAMbutבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURbecause ofהָעָםha/AMthe peopleהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwho areסְבִיבוֹתַיse/vi/vo/TAYaround meדִּבַּרְתִּיdib/BAR/tiI have spokenלְמַעַןle/MA/anso thatיַאֲמִינוּya/a/MI/nuthey may believeכִּיkithatאַתָּהat/TAYouשְׁלַחְתָּנִי׃she/lach/TA/nisent me

    And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.

43. 43

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכְּכַלּוֹתוֹke/khal/lo/TOwhen he finishedלְדַבֵּרle/dab/BERspeakingוַיִּקְרָאvay/yik/RAand he called outבְּקוֹלbe/KOLwith a voiceגָּדוֹלga/DOLgreatלַעְזָרLa/ZARLazarusצֵא׃tsecome out

    And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.

44. 44

    וַיֵּצֵאvay/ye/TSEand came outהַמֵּתham/METthe dead manוְיָדָיוve/ya/DAYVand his handsוְרָגְלָיוve/ra/ge/LAYVand his feetכְּרוּכֹתke/ru/KHOTwrappedבְּתַכְרִיכִיןbe/takh/ri/KHINwith wrappingsוּפָנָיוu/fa/NAYVand his faceלוּטִיםlu/TIMcoveredבְּסוּדָרbe/su/DARwith a clothוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusהַתִּירוּhat/ti/RUuntieאֹתוֹo/TOhimוְיֵלֵךְve/ye/LEKHand let him goלְדַרְכּוֹ׃le/dar/KOhis way

    And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.

45. 45

    וְרַבִּיםve/rab/BIMand manyמִן־הַיְּהוּדִיםmin-Hay/ye/hu/DIMof the Jewsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoבָּאוּBA/uhad comeאֶל־מִרְיָםel-Mir/YAMto Maryבִּרְאוֹתָםbir/o/TAMwhen they sawאֶת־אֲשֶׁרet-a/SHERwhatעָשָׂהa/SAdidיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusהֶאֱמִינוּhe/e/MI/nubelievedבוֹ׃voin him

    Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him.

46. 46

    וְיֵשׁve/YESHand there wereאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoהָלְכוּha/le/KHUwentאֶל־הַפְּרוּשִׁיםel-Hap/pe/ru/SHIMto the Phariseesוַיַּגִּידוּvay/yag/GI/duand toldלָהֶםla/HEMthemאֶת־אֲשֶׁרet-a/SHERwhatעָשָׂהa/SAhad doneיֵשׁוּעַ׃Ye/SHU/aJesus

    But some of them went their ways to the Pharisees, and told them what things Jesus had done.

47. 47

    אָזazthenיַקְהִילוּyak/hi/LUgatheredרָאשֵׁיra/SHEthe chiefs ofהַכֹּהֲנִיםhak/ko/ha/NIMthe priestsוְהַפְּרוּשִׁיםve/hap/Pe/ru/SHIMand the Phariseesאֶת־סַנְהֶדְרִיןet-San/hed/RINthe Sanhedrinוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidמַה־נַּעֲשֶׂהma-na/a/SEwhat shall we doכִּיkiforהָאִישׁha/ISHthe manהַלָּזֶהhal/la/ZEthisעֹשֶׂהo/SEdoesאֹתוֹתo/TOTsignsהַרְבֵּה׃har/BEmany

    Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many miracles.

48. 48

    אִם־לֹאim-loif notנִכְלָאֵהוּnikh/la/e/HUwe restrain himכֻּלָּםkul/LAMallיַאֲמִינוּya/a/MI/nuwill believeבוֹvoin himוּבָאוּu/VA/uand will comeהָרוֹמִיִּיםha/Ro/miy/YIMthe Romansוְלָקְחוּve/la/ke/CHUand will takeגַּםgambothאֶת־אַדְמָתֵנוּet-ad/ma/TE/nuour landוְגַםve/GAMand alsoאֶת־עַמֵּנוּ׃et-am/ME/nuour people

    If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation.

49. 49

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themאֶחָדe/CHADoneמֵהֶםme/HEMof themוְהוּאve/HUand he wasקַיָּפָאKay/ya/FACaiaphasהַכֹּהֵןhak/ko/HENthe priestהַגָּדוֹלhag/ga/DOLhighבַּשָּׁנָהbash/sha/NAin the yearהַהִיאha/HIthatאַתֶּםat/TEMyouלֹא־תֵדְעוּlo-ted/Udo not knowדָבָר׃da/VARa thing

    And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all,

50. 50

    אַףafandלֹא־תִתְבּוֹנֲנוּlo-tit/bo/na/NUyou do not considerכִּיkithatטוֹבtovit is expedientלָנוּLA/nufor usמוּתmutthe death ofאִישׁisha manאֶחָדe/CHADoneבְּעַדbe/ADforהָעָםha/AMthe peopleמֵאֲבֹדme/a/VODand not perishהַגּוֹיhag/GOYthe nationכֻּלּוֹ׃kul/LOall of it

    Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.

51. 51

    וְלֹאve/LOand notמִלִּבּוֹmil/lib/BOfrom his heartדִבֶּרdib/BERdid he speakהַדָּבָרhad/da/VARthe wordהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisכִּיkibutהָיָהha/YAhe wasהַכֹּהֵןhak/ko/HENpriestהַגָּדוֹלhag/ga/DOLhighבַּשָּׁנָהbash/sha/NAin the yearהַהִיאha/HIthatוַיִּנָּבֵאvay/yin/na/VEand he prophesiedאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatיָמוּתya/MUTshould dieיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusבְּעַדbe/ADforהָעָם׃ha/AMthe people

    And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation;

52. 52

    וְלֹא־בְעַדve/LO-ve/ADand not forהָעָםha/AMthe peopleלְבַדּוֹle/vad/DOonlyכִּיkibutגַם־לְקַבֵּץgam-le/kab/BETSalso to gatherאֶת־בְּנֵיet-be/NEthe children ofהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodהַמְפֻזָּרִיםham/fuz/za/RIMwho are scatteredוְהָיוּve/ha/YUand they will beלַאֲחָדִים׃la/a/cha/DIMas one

    And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad.

53. 53

    וַיִּוָּעֲצוּvay/yiv/va/a/TSUand they consultedיַחְדָּוyach/DAVtogetherלַהֲמִיתוֹla/ha/mi/TOto kill himמֵהַיּוֹםme/hay/YOMfrom the dayהַהוּאha/HUthatוָהָלְאָה׃va/HAL/aand onward

    Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put him to death.

54. 54

    עַל־כֵּןal-kenthereforeלֹא־הִתְהַלֵּךְlo-hit/hal/LEKHdid not walkיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusעוֹדodanymoreבְּתוֹךְbe/TOKHamongהַיְּהוּדִיםhay/Ye/hu/DIMthe Jewsלְעֵינֵיle/e/NEbefore the eyes ofהָעָםha/AMthe peopleכִּיkibutאִם־סָרim-saronly turned asideמִשָּׁםmish/SHAMfrom thereאֶל־הָאָרֶץel-ha/A/retsto the landהַקְּרוֹבָהhak/ke/ro/VAnearלַמִּדְבָּרlam/mid/BARto the wildernessאֶל־עִירel-irto a cityעֶפְרַיִםEf/RA/yimEphraimוַיָּגׇר־שָׁםvay/YA/gor-shamand he stayed thereעִם־תַּלְמִידָיו׃im-tal/mi/DAYVwith his disciples

    Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews; but went thence unto a country near to the wilderness, into a city called Ephraim, and there continued with his disciples.

55. 55

    וַיִּקְרְבוּvay/yik/re/VUand drew nearיְמֵיye/MEthe days ofהַפֶּסַחhap/PE/sachthe Passoverלַיְּהוּדִיםlay/Ye/hu/DIMof the Jewsוְעַם־רַבve/AM-ravand many peopleעָלוּa/LUwent upמִן־הָאָרֶץmin-ha/A/retsfrom the landיְרוּשָׁלַיְמָהYe/ru/sha/LAY/mato Jerusalemלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeהַפֶּסַחhap/PE/sachthe Passoverלְהִתְקַדֵּשׁ׃le/hit/kad/DESHto sanctify themselves

    And the Jews' passover was nigh at hand: and many went out of the country up to Jerusalem before the passover, to purify themselves.

56. 56

    וַיְבַקְשׁוּvay/vak/SHUand they soughtאֶת־יֵשׁוּעַet-Ye/SHU/aJesusוַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passהֵםhemtheyעֹמְדִיםom/DIMwere standingבְּבֵיתbe/VETin the house ofהַמִּקְדָּשׁham/mik/DASHthe templeוַיְדַבְּרוּvay/dab/be/RUand they spokeאִישׁisheach manאֶל־רֵעֵהוּel-re/E/huto his neighborמַה־תֹּאמְרוּma-to/me/RUwhat do you sayהֲכִיha/KHIthatלֹאlonotיָבוֹאya/VOhe will comeאֶל־הֶחָג׃el-he/CHAGto the feast

    Then sought they for Jesus, and spake among themselves, as they stood in the temple, What think ye, that he will not come to the feast?

57. 57

    וְרָאשֵׁיve/ra/SHEand the chiefs ofהַכֹּהֲנִיםhak/ko/ha/NIMthe priestsוְהַפְּרוּשִׁיםve/hap/Pe/ru/SHIMand the Phariseesגָּזְרוּga/ze/RUdecreedגְזֵרָהge/ze/RAa decreeאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatאִם־יֵדַעim-ye/DAif knowsאִישׁisha manאֶת־מְקוֹמוֹet-me/ko/MOhis placeיוֹדִיעֶנּוּyo/di/EN/nuhe must make it knownלְמַעַןle/MA/anso thatיִתְפְּשֻׂהוּ׃yit/pe/su/HUthey might seize him

    Now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a commandment, that, if any man knew where he were, he should shew it, that they might take him.
