   אַחַיa/CHAYmy brothersאַל־יִהְיוּal-yih/YUdo not beרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyמִכֶּםmik/KEMof youלְמוֹרִיםle/mo/RIMteachersבְּדַעְתְּכֶםbe/da/te/KHEMknowingכִּיkithatנִקַּחnik/KACHwe might receiveדִּיןdinjudgmentגָּדוֹלga/DOLgreatיֶתֶר׃YE/termore

   My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.

   כִּיkiforבִּדְבָרִיםbid/va/RIMin thingsרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyחֹטְאִיםchot/IMsinכֻּלָּנוּkul/LA/nuall of usאִםimifאִישׁishany manלֹאlonotיֶחֱטָאye/che/TAsinsבְּדָבָרbe/da/VARin wordהוּאhuhe isאִישׁisha manתָּמִיםta/MIMperfectוְיָכֹלve/ya/KHOLand ableגַּםgamalsoלָשׂוּםla/SUMto putרֶסֶןRE/sena bridleלְכׇל־גְּוִיָּתוֹ׃le/KHOL-ge/viy/ya/TOall his body

   For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.

   הִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdנָשִׂיםna/SIMwe putאֶת־הַמֶּתֶגet-ham/ME/tegbitsבְּפִיbe/FIin the mouth ofהַסּוּסִיםhas/su/SIMthe horsesלְמַעַןle/MA/ansoיִשָּׁמְעוּyish/SHAM/uthey obeyלָנוּLA/nuusוּמְסִבִּיםu/me/sib/BIMand we turnאֶת־כׇּל־גְּוִיָּתָם׃et-kol-ge/viy/ya/TAMall their body

   Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body.

   וְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdגַּםgamalsoהָאֳנִיּוֹתha/o/niy/YOTthe shipsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichגַּםgamevenכִּיkithoughגְדֹלוֹתge/do/LOTgreatהֵנָּהHEN/nathey areמְאֹדme/ODsoוְנֶהְדָּפוֹתve/neh/da/FOTand drivenבְּרוּחוֹתbe/ru/CHOTby windsעַזּוֹתaz/ZOTroughlyאַךְakhbutיוּסַבּוּyu/sab/BUare turnedבְּמָשׁוֹטbe/ma/SHOTby a rudderקָטֹןka/TONsmallמְאֹדme/ODveryעַל־כׇּל־אֲשֶׁרal-kol-a/SHERwhereverיַחְפֹּץyach/POTSdesiresהַחֹבֵל׃ha/cho/VELthe pilot

   Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth.

   כֵּןkeneven soהַלָּשׁוֹןhal/la/SHONthe tongueאֵבָרe/VARmemberקָטֹןka/TONsmallהִיאhiisוּגְדֹלוֹתu/ge/do/LOTand great thingsתְּדַבֵּרte/dab/BERspeaksהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdמַה־גָּדוֹלma-ga/DOLhow greatהַיַּעַרhay/YA/arthe forestוְאֵשׁve/ESHand a fireקְטַנָּהke/tan/NAsmallתַּבְעִירֶנּוּ׃tav/i/ren/NUkindles it

   Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!

   וְהַלָּשׁוֹןve/hal/la/SHONand the tongueאֵשׁesha fireהִיאhiisעוֹלַםo/LAMa world ofעַוְלָהav/LAiniquityכֵּןkensoהַלָּשׁוֹןhal/la/SHONthe tongueנִצֶּבֶתnits/TSE/vetis setבֵּיןbenamongאֵבָרֵינוּe/va/re/NUour membersהַמְטַמְּאָהham/tam/me/Athat defilesאֶת־כׇּל־הַגְּוִיָּהet-kol-hag/ge/viy/YAall the bodyוּמְלַהֶטֶתu/me/la/HE/tetand sets ablazeאֶת־גַּלְגַּלet-gal/GALthe wheel ofהַמּוֹלֶדֶתham/mo/LE/detbirthוְאֵשׁve/ESHand the fire ofגֵּיהִנֹּםGe/hin/NOMGehennaמְלַהֶטֶתme/la/HE/tetsets on fireאֹתָהּ׃o/TAit

   And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

   כִּיkiforכׇּל־מִיןkol-minevery kind ofבְּהֵמָהbe/he/MAbeastוְעוֹףve/OFand birdוְנָחָשׁve/na/CHASHand serpentוְחַיּוֹתve/chay/YOTand creatures ofהַיָּםhay/YAMthe seaיִכָּבֵשׁyik/ka/VESHis tamedוְנִכְבַּשׁve/nikh/BASHand has been subduedבִּידֵיbi/DEby the hands ofבְּנֵיbe/NEthe sons ofהָאָדָם׃ha/a/DAMman

   For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:

8. 8

   אֲבָלa/VALbutהַלָּשׁוֹןhal/la/SHONthe tongueאֵיןennoאָדָםa/DAMmanיָכֹלya/KHOLcanלְכָבְשָׁהּle/kha/ve/SHAtame itרָעָהra/Aan evilסוֹרֶרֶתso/RE/retstubbornהִיאhiit isמְלֵאָהme/le/Afull ofחֲמַתcha/MATthe venom ofמָוֶת׃MA/vetdeath

   But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

9. 9

   בָּהּbawith itנְבָרֵךְne/va/REKHwe blessאֶת־הָאֱלֹהִיםet-ha/e/lo/HIMGodוְהָאָבve/Ha/AVand the Fatherוּבָהּu/VAand with itנְקַלֵּלne/kal/LELwe curseאֶת־בְּנֵיet-be/NEthe sons ofהָאָדָםha/a/DAMmanהַנַּעֲשִׂיםhan/na/a/SIMthat are madeבִּדְמוּתbid/MUTin the likeness ofאֱלֹהִים׃e/lo/HIMGod

   Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.

10. 10

    מִפֶּהmip/PEfrom a mouthאֶחָדe/CHADoneיֹצֵאתyo/TSETgoes outבְּרָכָהbe/ra/KHAblessingוּקְלָלָהu/ke/la/LAand curseאַחַיa/CHAYmy brothersלֹא־יֵעָשֶׂהlo-ye/a/SEit should not be doneכֵן׃khenso

    Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

11. 11

    הֲיַבִּיעַha/yab/BI/adoes pour forthהַמַּעְיָןham/ma/YANthe springמִמּוֹצָאmim/mo/TSAfrom an outletאֶחָדe/CHADoneמַיִםMA/yimwaterמְתוּקִיםme/tu/KIMsweetוּמָרִים׃u/ma/RIMand bitter

    Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?

12. 12

    הֲתוּכַלha/tu/KHALcanהַתְּאֵנָהhat/te/e/NAthe figאַחַיa/CHAYmy brothersלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTmakeזֵיתִיםze/TIMolivesאוֹoorהַגֶּפֶןhag/GE/fenthe vineתְּאֵנִיםte/e/NIMfigsכֵּןkensoלֹאlonotיוּכַלyu/KHALcanמַעְיָןma/YANa springלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTmakeגַּםgambothמֵיmethe waters ofמֶלַחME/lachsaltוְגַםve/GAMand alsoמַיִםMA/yimwaterמְתוּקִים׃me/tu/KIMsweet

    Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.

13. 13

    מִיmiwho isאִישׁisha manחָכָםcha/KHAMwiseוְיֹדֵעַve/yo/DE/aand knowingדַּעַתDA/atknowledgeבָּכֶםba/KHEMamong youיַרְאֶהyar/Elet him showמִדַּרְכּוֹmid/dar/KOfrom his wayהַטּוֹבָהhat/to/VAgoodאֶת־מַעֲשָׂיוet-ma/a/SAYVhis worksבְּעַנְוַתbe/an/VATin the meekness ofחׇכְמָה׃chokh/MAwisdom

    Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.

14. 14

    וְאִםve/IMbut ifקִנְאָהkin/Ajealousyמָרָהma/RAbitterוָרִיבva/RIVand strifeבִּלְבַבְכֶםbil/vav/KHEMin your heartאַל־תִּתְהַלְלוּal-tit/hal/LUdo not boastוְאַל־תְּשַׁקְּרוּve/AL-te/shak/ke/RUand do not lieבָּאֱמֶת׃ba/e/METagainst the truth

    But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.

15. 15

    הַחׇכְמָהha/chokh/MAthe wisdomהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisאֵינֶנָּהe/NEN/nais notיֹרֶדֶתyo/RE/detdescendingמִמַּעַלmim/MA/alfrom aboveכִּיkibutאִם־אַרְצִיתim-ar/TSITrather earthlyתַּאֲוָנִיתta/a/va/NITsensualוְשֵׁדִיתve/she/DITdemonicהִיא׃hiis

    This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.

16. 16

    כִּיkiforבִמְקוֹםvim/KOMin a placeאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichקִנְאָהkin/Ajealousyוָרִיבva/RIVand strifeשָׁםshamthereמְבוּכָהme/vu/KHAconfusionוְכׇל־מַעֲשֶׂהve/KHOL-ma/a/SEand every deedרָע׃raevil

    For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.

17. 17

    אֲבָלa/VALbutהַחׇכְמָהha/chokh/MAthe wisdomאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthat isמִמַּעַלmim/MA/alfrom aboveבָּרִאשׁוֹנָהba/ri/sho/NAfirstטְהוֹרָהte/ho/RApureהִיאhiisוְאַחַרve/a/CHARthenאֹהֶבֶתo/HE/vetlovingשָׁלוֹםsha/LOMpeaceרַכָּהrak/KAgentleוְנַעְתֶּרֶתve/na/TE/retand yieldingמְלֵאָהme/le/Afull ofרַחֲמִיםra/cha/MIMmercyוּפְרִיu/fe/RIand fruitטוֹבtovgoodבְּלִיbe/LIwithoutמַשֹּׂאmas/SOlifting ofפָנִיםfa/NIMfacesוּבְלִיu/ve/LIand withoutחֲנֻפָּה׃cha/nup/PAhypocrisy

    But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

18. 18

    וּפְרִיu/fe/RIand the fruit ofהַצְּדָקָהhats/tse/da/KArighteousnessבְּשָׁלוֹםbe/sha/LOMin peaceיִזָּרֵעַyiz/za/RE/ais sownלְעֹשֵׂיle/o/SEfor those who makeהַשָּׁלוֹם׃hash/sha/LOMpeace

    And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.
