אַחַיmy-brothersאַל־יְהִיdo-not-let-this-beמַשּׂאrespect-ofפָנִיםpersonsבֶּאֱמוּנַתְכֶםwith-your-faithבְּיֵשׁוּעַin-Jesusהַמָּשִׁיחַthe-Messiahאֲדֹנֵינוּour-Lordאֲדוֹןthe-Lord-ofהַכָּבוֹד׃glory
My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.

כִּיbecauseאִם־יָבוֹאif-comesאִישׁa-manלְבֵיתto-the-house-ofהַכְּנֵסֶתthe-assemblyשֶׁלָּכֶםthat-youוְטַבְּעֹתand-a-ring-ofזָהָבgoldעַל־יָדָיוon-his-handוְהוּאand-heלָבוּשׁclothed-inלְבֻשֵׁיapparelמִכְלוֹלgoodlyוּבָאand-come-inשָׁמָּהalsoגַּם־אִישׁa-manעָנִיpoorבִּבְגָדִיםin-raimentצוֹאִים׃vile
For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment;

וּפְנִיתֶםand-you-have-respectאֶל־הַלָּבוּשׁto-him-that-wearethלְבֻשֵׁיthe-clothingמִכְלוֹלgayוַאֲמַרְתֶּםand-you-sayלוֹhimשֶׁב־לְךָsit-youהֵנָּהhereבְּכָבוֹדin-a-good-placeוְלֶעָנִיand-to-the-poorתֹאמְרוּsayעֲמָד־שָׁםstand-you-thereאוֹorשֶׁב־פֹּהsit-hereמִתַּחַתunderלַהֲדֹםthe-footstool-ofרַגְלָי׃my-feet
And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool:

הֲלֹאare-you-notלֵבthen-partialוָלֵבinלָכֶםyourselvesוְהִנְּכֶםand-are-becomeשֹׁפְטִיםjudgesבַּעֲלֵיofמַחֲשָׁבוֹתthoughtsרָעוֹת׃evil
Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?

שִׁמְעוּhearאַחַיmy-brothersאֲהוּבָיmy-belovedהֲלֹאdo-notבַעֲנִיֵּיthe-poor-ofהָעוֹלָםthe-worldהַזֶּהthisבָּחַרhath-chosenהָאֱלֹהִיםGodלִהְיוֹתto-beעֲשִׁירִיםrichבָּאֱמוּנָהin-faithוְיֹרְשֵׁיand-heirs-ofהַמַּלְכוּתthe-kingdomאֲשֶׁרwhichהִבְטִיחַhe-hath-promisedלְאֹהֲבָיו׃to-them-that-love-him
Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?

וְאַתֶּםbut-youהִכְלַמְתֶּםhave-despisedאֶת־הֶעָנִיthe-poorהֲלֹאdo-notהָעֲשִׁירִיםthe-richהֵםtheyהָעֹשְׁקִיםoppressאֶתְכֶםyouוְהֵםand-theyהַסֹּחֲבִיםdrawאֶתְכֶםyouאֶל־בָּתֵּיbefore-the-seats-ofדִין׃judgment
But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats?

הֲלֹאdo-notהֵםtheyהַמְגַדְּפִיםblasphemeאֶת־הַשֵּׁםthe-nameהַטּוֹבworthyהַנִּקְרָאby-which-you-are-calledעֲלֵיכֶם׃upon-you
Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called?

הֵןyeaבַּעֲשׂוֹתְכֶםif-you-fulfilאֶת־הַמִּצְוָהthe-lawהַמֹּלֶכֶתroyalעַל־כֻּלָּןabove-allכְּפִיaccording-toהַכָּתוּבthe-scriptureוְאָהַבְתָּand-you-shall-loveלְרֵעֲךָyour-neighborכָּמוֹךָas-thyselfתֵּיטִיבוּyou-doלַעֲשׂוֹת׃well
If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:

אוּלָםneverthelessאִם־תִּשְׂאוּif-you-have-respectפָנִיםto-personsחַטָּאִיםyou-commit-sinאַתֶּםyouוְהַתּוֹרָהand-the-lawתוֹכִיחֲכֶםconvinceth-youכְּעֹבְרִיםas-transgressorsעָלֶיהָ׃of-it
But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.

כִּיbecauseאִישׁa-manאֲשֶׁרwhichיְקַיֵּםshall-keepאֶת־כׇּל־הַתּוֹרָהthe-whole-lawוְנִכְשַׁלand-yet-offendבְּאַחַתin-oneמִמִּצְוֹתֶיהָpointנִדּוֹןhe-is-guiltyעַל־כֻּלָּן׃of-all
For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

כִּיbecauseהָאֹמֵרhe-that-saidלֹאnotתִנְאָףcommit-adulteryהוּאheהָאֹמֵרsaid-alsoלֹאnotתִרְצָחkillוְאִם־אֵינְךָnow-if-you-be-noנֹאֵףadultererוְאַתָּהyet-if-youרוֹצֵחַkillהִנְּךָyou-art-becomeעֹבֵרa-transgressorעַל־הַתּוֹרָה׃of-the-law
For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law.

כֵּןthusדַּבְּרוּspeakוְכֵןand-soעֲשׂוּdoכְּמִיas-theyשֶׁעֲתִידִיםthat-shall-beלְהִשָּׁפֵטjudgedעַל־פִּיbyתּוֹרַתthe-law-ofהַחֵרוּת׃liberty
So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.

כִּיbecauseאֵיןthere-shall-be-noחֶסֶדmercy-in-judgmentבַּמִּשְׁפָּטto-himלַאֲשֶׁרthatלֹא־עָשָׂהhath-shewed-noחָסֶדmercyוְהַחֶסֶדand-mercyיִתְגָּאֶהrejoicethעַל־הַמִּשְׁפָּט׃against-judgment
For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.

אַחַיmy-brothersמַה־יּוֹעִילwhat-doth-it-profitלְאִישׁa-manשֶׁיֹּאמַרthough-sayכִּיthatאֱמוּנָהfaithבוֹhe-hathוּמַעֲשִׂיםand-worksאֵיןhave-notבּוֹheהֲתוּכַלcanהָאֱמוּנָהfaithלְהוֹשִׁיעוֹ׃save-him
What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?

אָחa-brotherאוֹorאָחוֹתa sisterכִּי־יִהְיוּif-beבְעֵירֹםnakedוְאֵיןand-destitute-ofלָהֶםto-themלֶחֶםfoodחֻקָּם׃daily
If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,

וְאִישׁand-oneמִכֶּםof-youיֹאמַרsayאֲלֵיהֶםunto-themלְכוּdepartלְשָׁלוֹםin-peaceוְהִתְחַמֲמוּbe-warmedוּשְׂבָעוּand-filledוְלֹא־תִתְּנוּand-yet-give-notלָהֶםthemצׇרְכֵיthe-needful-ofגוּפָםthe-bodyמַה־תּוֹעִילwhat-doth-it-profitזֹאת׃it
And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?

כָּכָהeven-soגַּם־הָאֱמוּנָהfaithאִם־אֵיןif-it-hath-notבָּהּin-itמַעֲשִׂיםworksמֵתָהis-deadהִיאitבְּעַצְמָהּ׃being-alone
Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

וְאִם־יֹאמַרyea-may-sayאִישׁa-manאַתָּהyou-hastאֱמוּנָהfaithבְךָandוְלִיI-haveמַעֲשִׂיםworksהַרְאֵנִיshew-meנָאI-prayאֶת־אֱמוּנָתְךָyour-faithבִּבְלִיwithoutמַעֲשִׂיםworksוְאַרְאֲךָand-I-will-shew-youאֲנִיIמִתּוֹךְbyמַעֲשַׂיmy-worksאֶת־אֱמוּנָתִי׃my-faith
Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

אַתָּהyouמַאֲמִיןyou-believestשֶׁהָאֱלֹהִיםthat...Godאֶחָדoneהוּאthere-isהֱטִיבוֹתָyou-doestלְהַאֲמִיןwellגַּםthe-devils-alsoהַשֵּׁדִיםthe-devilsמַאֲמִינִיםbelieveבּוֹalsoוְרֹעֲדִים׃and-tremble
Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

וְאַתָּהbut-youאִישׁ־בָּעַרO-vain-manהֲתַחְפֹּץwilt-youלָדַעַתknowכִּיthatהָאֱמוּנָהfaithבְּאֵיןwithoutמַעֲשִׂיםworksמֵתָהis-deadהִיא׃it
But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

אַבְרָהָםAbrahamאָבִינוּour-fatherהֲלֹאwas-notבְּמַעֲשָׂיוby-worksנִצְדָּקjustifiedבְּהַעֲלֹתוֹwhen-he-had-offeredאֶת־יִצְחָקIsaacבְּנוֹhis-sonעַל־הַמִּזְבֵּחַ׃upon-the-altar
Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?

הִנְּךָseestרֹאֶהyouכִּי־הָאֱמוּנָהhow-faithעֹזֶרֶתwrought-withלְמַעֲשָׂיוhis-worksוּמִתּוֹךְand-byהַמַּעֲשִׂיםworksהָשְׁלְמָהwas-made-perfectהָאֱמוּנָה׃faith
Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?

וַיִּמָּלֵאand-was-fulfilledהַכָּתוּבthe-scriptureהָאֹמֵרwhich-saithוְהֶאֱמִןbelievedאַבְרָהָםAbrahamבֵּאלֹהִיםGodוַתֵּחָשֶׁב־לוֹand-it-was-imputed-to-himלִצְדָקָהfor-righteousnessוַיִּקָּרֵאand-he-was-calledאֹהֵבthe-Friend-ofיְהוָֹה׃God
And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.

הִנְּכֶםyou-seeרֹאִיםthenכִּיhow-thatבְּמַעֲשִׂיםby-worksיִצְדַּקis-justifiedהָאִישׁa-manוְלֹאand-notבֶאֱמוּנָהby-faithלְבַדָּהּ׃only
Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

וְכֵןand-soגַּם־רָחָבalso-Rahabהַזּוֹנָהthe-harlotהֲלֹאwas-notנִצְדְּקָהjustifiedבְּמַעֲשִׂיםby-worksבְּאָסְפָהּwhen-she-had-receivedאֶת־הַמַּלְאָכִיםthe-messengersאֶל־בֵּיתָהּinto-her-houseוַתְּשַׁלְּחֵםand-had-sent-them-outבְּדֶרֶךְby-wayאַחֵר׃another
Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?

כִּיbecauseכַּאֲשֶׁרasהַגּוּףthe-bodyמִבְּלִיwithoutנְשָׁמָהthe-spiritמֵתdeadהוּאisכֵּןsoגַּם־הָאֱמוּנָהfaith-alsoמִבְּלִי־מַעֲשִׂיםwithout-worksמֵתָה׃is-dead
For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
