   אַחַיa/CHAYmy brothersאַל־תִּהְיֶהal-tih/YEdo not let beלָכֶםla/KHEMto youאֱמוּנַתe/mu/NATthe faith ofאֲדֹנֵינוּa/do/NE/nuour LordיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusהַמָּשִׁיחַham/Ma/SHI/achthe Messiahאֲדוֹןa/DONthe Lord ofהַכָּבוֹדhak/ka/VODgloryבְּמַשֹּׂאbe/mas/SOby lifting ofפָנִים׃fa/NIMfaces

   My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.

   כִּיkiforאִם־יָבוֹאim-ya/VOif comesאֶל־קְהַלְכֶםel-ke/hal/KHEMto your assemblyאִישׁisha manוְטַבַּעַתve/tab/BA/atand a ringזָהָבza/HAVgoldעַל־יָדוֹal-ya/DOon his handבְּבִגְדֵיbe/vig/DEin clothingחֲמֻדוֹתcha/mu/DOTgorgeousוּבָאu/VAand comesגַּם־אִישׁgam-ishalso a manעָנִיa/NIpoorבִּבְגָדִיםbiv/ga/DIMin garmentsצוֹאִים׃tso/IMfilthy

   For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment;

   וּפְנִיתֶםu/fe/ni/TEMand you turnאֶל־הַלָּבוּשׁel-hal/la/VUSHto the one clothed inלְבֻשֵׁיle/vu/SHEgarments ofמִכְלוֹלmikh/LOLsplendorוַאֲמַרְתֶּםva/a/mar/TEMand you sayלוֹloto himשֵׁבshevsitפֹּהpohereבְּמָקוֹםbe/ma/KOMin a placeטוֹבtovgoodוְלֶעָנִיve/le/a/NIand to the poorתֹאמְרוּto/me/RUyou sayעֲמׇד־שָׁםa/MOD-shamstand thereאוֹoorשֵׁבshevsitפֹּהpohereתַּחַתTA/chatunderהֲדֹםha/DOMa footstoolרַגְלָי׃rag/LAYmy feet

   And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool:

   הֲלֹאha/LOis there notנֹשְׂאֵיnos/Ebearers ofפָנִיםfa/NIMfacesאַתֶּםat/TEMyouבְּקִרְבְּכֶםbe/kir/be/KHEMin yourselvesוַהֲיִיתֶםva/ha/yi/TEMand you have becomeשֹׁפְטִיםshof/TIMjudgesבַּעֲלֵיba/a/LEwithמַחֲשָׁבוֹתma/cha/sha/VOTthoughtsרָעוֹת׃ra/OTevil

   Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?

   שִׁמְעוּshim/Ulistenאַחַיa/CHAYmy brothersהָאֲהוּבִיםha/a/hu/VIMbelovedהֲלֹאha/LOhas notבַעֲנִיֵּיva/a/niy/YEthe poor ofהָעוֹלָםha/o/LAMthe worldהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisבָּחַרba/CHARchosenהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodלִהְיוֹתlih/YOTto beעֲשִׁירִיםa/shi/RIMrichבָּאֱמוּנָהba/e/mu/NAin faithוְיֹרְשֵׁיve/yor/SHEand heirs ofהַמַּלְכוּתham/mal/KHUTthe kingdomאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatהִבְטִיחַhiv/TI/achHe promisedלְאֹהֲבָיו׃le/o/ha/VAYVto those who love Him

   Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?

6. 6

   וְאַתֶּםve/at/TEMbut youבְּזִיתֶםbe/zi/TEMyou despisedאֶת־הֶעָנִיet-he/a/NIthe poorהֲלֹאha/LOare notהָעֲשִׁירִיםha/a/shi/RIMthe richהֵםhemtheyהָעֹשְׁקִיםha/osh/KIMwho oppressאֶתְכֶםet/KHEMyouוְהֵםve/HEMand theyהַסֹּחֲבִיםhas/so/cha/VIMwho dragאֶתְכֶםet/KHEMyouלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeכִּסְאוֹתkis/OTthronesמִשְׁפָּט׃mish/PATjudgment

   But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats?

   הֲלֹאha/LOare notהֵםhemtheyהַמְגַדְּפִיםham/gad/de/FIMwho blasphemeאֶת־הַשֵּׁםet-hash/SHEMthe nameהַנִּכְבָּדhan/nikh/BADthe honoredהַנִּקְרָאhan/nik/RAthat is calledעֲלֵיכֶם׃a/le/KHEMupon you

   Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called?

8. 8

   אִםimifתְּמַלְּאוּte/mal/le/Uyou fulfillאֶת־תּוֹרַתet-to/RATthe law ofהַמַּלְכוּתham/mal/KHUTthe kingdomכַּכָּתוּבkak/ka/TUVas it is writtenוְאָהַבְתָּve/a/hav/TAand you shall loveלְרֵעֲךָle/re/a/KHAyour neighborכָּמוֹךָka/MO/khaas yourselfהֵיטַבְתֶּם׃he/tav/TEMyou did well

   If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:

9. 9

   אוּלָםu/LAMbutאִם־תִּשְׂאוּim-tis/Uif you liftפָנִיםfa/NIMfacesחֵטְאchetsinאַתֶּםat/TEMyou areעֹשִׂיםo/SIMdoוְהוּכַחְתֶּםve/hu/khach/TEMand are reprovedעַל־פִּיal-pibyהַתּוֹרָהhat/to/RAthe lawכְּעֹבְרִים׃ke/ov/RIMas transgressors

   But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.

    כִּיkiforאִישׁisha manאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoיִשְׁמֹרyish/MORkeepsאֶת־כׇּל־הַתּוֹרָהet-kol-hat/to/RAthe whole lawוְיֶחֱטָאve/ye/che/TAand yet offendבְּאַחַתbe/a/CHATin oneאָשֵׁםa/SHEMguiltyהוּאhuhe isבַּכֹּל׃bak/KOLin all

    For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

11. 11

    כִּיkiforהָאֹמֵרha/o/MERthe one who saidלֹאlonotתִנְאָףtin/AFyou shall commit adulteryאָמַרa/MARsaidגַּםgamalsoלֹאlonotתִרְצָחtir/TSACHyou shall murderוְאִםve/IMand ifלֹאlonoתִנְאַףtin/AFyou shall commit adulteryאַךְakhbutתִּרְצַחtir/TSACHyou murderהָיִיתָha/YI/tayou have becomeעֹבֵרo/VERa transgressorתּוֹרָה׃to/RAlaw

    For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law.

12. 12

    כֵּןkensoדַּבְּרוּdab/be/RUspeakוְכֵןve/KHENand soעֲשׂוּa/SUdoכְּאֵלֶּהke/EL/leas thoseאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatיִשָּׁפְטוּyish/sha/fe/TUwill be judgedבְּתוֹרַתbe/to/RATby the law ofהַדְּרוֹר׃had/de/RORliberty

    So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.

13. 13

    כִּיkiforמִשְׁפָּטmish/PATjudgmentבְּלֹאbe/LOwithoutחֶסֶדCHE/sedmercyיִהְיֶהyih/YEthere will beלַאֲשֶׁרla/a/SHERfor one whoלֹא־עָשָׂהlo-a/SAhas not doneחָסֶדCHA/sedmercyוְהַחֶסֶדve/ha/CHE/sedand mercyיַעֲלֹזya/a/LOZexultsעַל־הַמִּשְׁפָּט׃al-ham/mish/PATover judgment

    For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.

14. 14

    מַה־יּוֹעִילma-yo/ILwhat does it profitאַחַיa/CHAYmy brothersכִּיkithatיֹאמַרyo/MARsaysאִישׁisha manיֶשׁ־לוֹyesh-lohe hasאֱמוּנָהe/mu/NAfaithוּמַעֲשִׂיםu/ma/a/SIMand worksאֵיןenthere are notלוֹloto himהֲתוּכַלha/tu/KHALcanהָאֱמוּנָהha/e/mu/NAfaithלְהוֹשִׁיעוֹ׃le/ho/shi/Osave him

    What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?

15. 15

    אָחacha brotherאוֹoorאָחוֹתa/CHOTa sisterכִּי־יִהְיוּki-yih/YUif they areעֲרֻמִּיםa/rum/MIMnakedוַחֲסֵרִיםva/cha/se/RIMand lackingלֶחֶםLE/chembreadחֻקָּם׃chuk/KAMtheir portion

    If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,

16. 16

    וְאִישׁve/ISHand a manמִכֶּםmik/KEMof youיֹאמַרyo/MARsaysאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themלְכוּle/KHUgoלְשָׁלוֹםle/sha/LOMin peaceהִתְחַמְּמוּhit/cham/me/MUbe warmedוּשְׂבָעוּu/se/va/Uand be filledאַךְakhbutלֹא־תִתְּנוּlo-tit/te/NUyou do not giveלָהֶםla/HEMto themצׇרְכֵיtsor/KHEthe needs ofהַגְּוִיָּהhag/ge/viy/YAthe bodyמַה־יּוֹעִיל׃ma-yo/ILwhat does it profit

    And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?

17. 17

    כָּכָהKA/khasoגַּם־הָאֱמוּנָהgam-ha/e/mu/NAfaith alsoאִם־אֵיןim-enif there are notלָהּlato itמַעֲשִׂיםma/a/SIMworksמֵתָהME/tadeadהִיאhiit isלְבַדָּהּ׃le/vad/DAalone

    Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

18. 18

    אַךְakhbutיֹאמַרyo/MARwill sayאִישׁisha manלְךָle/KHAyou haveאֱמוּנָהe/mu/NAfaithוְלִיve/LIand I haveמַעֲשִׂיםma/a/SIMworksהַרְאֵנִיhar/E/nishow meאֶת־אֱמוּנָתְךָet-e/mu/na/te/KHAyour faithבְּלִיbe/LIwithoutמַעֲשֶׂיךָma/a/SE/khayour worksוַאֲנִיva/a/NIand Iאַרְאֲךָar/a/KHAI will show youאֶת־אֱמוּנָתִיet-e/mu/na/TImy faithבְּמַעֲשָׂי׃be/ma/a/SAYby my works

    Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

19. 19

    אַתָּהat/TAyouמַאֲמִיןma/a/MINbelieveכִּיkithatאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodאֶחָדe/CHADis oneהוּאhuHeהֱטִיבוֹתָhe/ti/VO/tayou have done wellגַּםgamalsoהַשֵּׁדִיםhash/she/DIMthe demonsמַאֲמִינִיםma/a/mi/NIMbelieveוְרֹעֲדִים׃ve/ro/a/DIMand tremble

    Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

20. 20

    הֲתַחְפֹּץha/tach/POTSdo you wantלָדַעַתla/DA/atto knowאִישׁishmanנָבוּבna/VUVhollowכִּיkithatהָאֱמוּנָהha/e/mu/NAfaithבְּלִיbe/LIwithoutמַעֲשִׂיםma/a/SIMworksמֵתָהME/tadeadהִיא׃hiis

    But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

21. 21

    אַבְרָהָםAv/ra/HAMAbrahamאָבִינוּa/VI/nuour fatherהֲלֹאha/LOwas notבְּמַעֲשִׂיםbe/ma/a/SIMby worksנִצְדַּקnits/DAKwas justifiedבְּהַעֲלֹתוֹbe/ha/a/lo/TOwhen he offered upאֶת־יִצְחָקet-Yits/CHAKIsaacבְּנוֹbe/NOhis sonעַל־הַמִּזְבֵּחַ׃al-ham/miz/BE/achon the altar

    Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?

22. 22

    הֲרָאִיתָha/ra/I/tado you seeכִּיkithatהָאֱמוּנָהha/e/mu/NAfaithפָּעֲלָהpa/a/LAworkedעִם־מַעֲשָׂיוim-ma/a/SAYVwith his worksוּבַמַּעֲשִׂיםu/vam/ma/a/SIMand by worksהֻשְׁלְמָהhush/le/MAwas made perfectהָאֱמוּנָה׃ha/e/mu/NAfaith

    Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?

23. 23

    וַיִּמָּלֵאvay/yim/ma/LEand was fulfilledהַכָּתוּבhak/ka/TUVthe scriptureהָאֹמֵרha/o/MERthat saysוְהֶאֱמִןve/he/e/MINand believedאַבְרָהָםAv/ra/HAMAbrahamבֵּאלֹהִיםbe/lo/HIMin Godוַיַּחְשְׁבֶהָvay/yach/she/VE/haand He counted itלּוֹloto himצְדָקָהtse/da/KAfor righteousnessוַיִּקָּרֵאvay/yik/ka/REand he was calledאֹהֵבo/HEVthe friend ofיְהוָֹה׃Adonaithe LORD

    And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.

24. 24

    הִנְּכֶםhin/ne/KHEMyouרֹאִיםro/IMseeכִּיkithatבְּמַעֲשִׂיםbe/ma/a/SIMby worksיִצְדַּקyits/DAKis justifiedהָאִישׁha/ISHa manוְלֹאve/LOand notבֶאֱמוּנָהve/e/mu/NAby faithלְבַדָּהּ׃le/vad/DAalone

    Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

25. 25

    וְכֵןve/KHENand soגַּם־רָחָבgam-Ra/CHAValso Rahabהַזּוֹנָהhaz/zo/NAthe harlotהֲלֹאha/LOwas notנִצְדְּקָהnits/de/KAjustifiedבְּמַעֲשִׂיםbe/ma/a/SIMby worksכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenקִבְּלָהkib/be/LAshe receivedאֶת־הַמַּלְאָכִיםet-ham/mal/a/KHIMthe messengersוַתְּשַׁלְּחֵםvat/te/shal/le/CHEMand sent themבְּדֶרֶךְbe/DE/rekhby a wayאַחֵר׃a/CHERother

    Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?

26. 26

    כִּיkiforכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasהַגְּוִיָּהhag/ge/viy/YAthe bodyמִבְּלִיmib/be/LIwithoutרוּחַRU/achthe spiritמֵתָהME/tais deadהִיאhiisכֵּןkensoהָאֱמוּנָהha/e/mu/NAfaithמִבְּלִיmib/be/LIwithoutמַעֲשִׂיםma/a/SIMworksמֵתָהME/tais deadגַּם־הִיא׃gam-hiit also

    For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
