   James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.

   אֶחָיe/CHAYmy brothersחִשְׁבוּchish/VUcountלָכֶםla/KHEMto youכׇּל־שִׂמְחָהkol-sim/CHAwith all joyכִּיkiwhenתִפְּלוּtip/pe/LUyou fallבְּמַסּוֹתbe/mas/SOTinto trialsשׁוֹנוֹת׃sho/NOTvarious

   My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;

   בְּדַעְתְּכֶםbe/da/te/KHEMknowingזֹאתzotthisכִּיkithatבֹחַןVO/chanthe testing ofאֱמוּנַתְכֶםe/mu/nat/KHEMyour faithפֹּעֵלpo/ELworksאֹרֶךְO/rekhlength ofרוּחַ׃RU/achspirit

   Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.

   וּלְאֹרֶךְu/le/O/rekhand the length ofהָרוּחַha/RU/achthe spiritיְהִיye/HIlet haveפֹּעַלPO/ala workתָּמִיםta/MIMits completeלְמַעַןle/MA/anso thatתִּהְיוּtih/YUyou may beתְּמִימִיםte/mi/MIMblamelessוּשְׁלֵמִיםu/she/le/MIMand completeוְלֹאve/LOand notתֶחְסְרוּtech/se/RUlackingכׇּל־דָּבָר׃kol-da/VARanything

   But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

   אִםimifאֶחָדe/CHADoneמִכֶּםmik/KEMof youחָסֵרcha/SERlacksחׇכְמָהchokh/MAwisdomיִשְׁאַלyish/ALlet him askמֵאֵתme/ETofהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodהַנּוֹתֵןhan/no/TENwho givesלְכֹלle/KHOLto allבְּנָדִיבוּתbe/na/di/VUTgenerouslyוְלֹאve/LOand notיְגָעֵרye/ga/ERreproachesוְיִנָּתֵןve/yin/NA/tenand it will be givenלוֹ׃loto him

   If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

   אַךְakhbutיִשְׁאַלyish/ALlet him askבֶּאֱמוּנָהbe/e/mu/NAin faithוְאַל־יִפְסַחve/AL-yif/SACHand let not waverכִּיkiforהַפֹּסֵחַhap/po/SE/achthe one who waversדּוֹמֶהdo/MEis likeלְגַלle/GALa wave ofהַיָּםhay/YAMthe seaהַנִּדָּףhan/nid/DAFdrivenבָּרוּחַba/RU/achby the windוְסֹעֵר׃ve/so/ERand raging

   But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

   כִּיkiforהָאִישׁha/ISHthe manהַהוּאha/HUthatאַל־יְדַמֶּהal-ye/dam/MElet not imagineבְנַפְשׁוֹve/naf/SHOin his soulכִּיkithatיִקַּחyik/KACHhe shall receiveדָּבָרda/VARanythingמֵאֵתme/ETfromהָאָדוֹן׃ha/a/DONthe Lord

   For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.

   אִישׁisha manאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatחָלַקcha/LAKis dividedלִבּוֹlib/BOhis heartפַּחַזPA/chazunstableהוּאhuhe isבְּכׇל־דְּרָכָיו׃be/KHOL-de/ra/KHAYVin all his ways

   A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

9. 9

   אֲבָלa/VALbutהָאָחha/ACHthe brotherהַשָּׁפֵלhash/sha/FELlowlyיִתְהַלֵּלyit/hal/LELlet boastבְּרוֹמֲמֻתוֹ׃be/ro/ma/mu/TOin his exaltation

   Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:

10. 10

    וְהֶעָשִׁירve/he/a/SHIRand the richיִתְהַלֵּלyit/hal/LELlet boastבְּשִׁפְלוּתוֹbe/shif/lu/TOin his lowlinessכִּיkiforיַעֲבֹרya/a/VORhe will pass awayכְּצִיץke/TSITSas the flower ofהֶחָצִיר׃he/cha/TSIRthe grass

    But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.

    כִּיkiforזָרַחza/RACHroseהַשֶּׁמֶשׁhash/SHE/meshthe sunבְּחַמָּתוֹbe/cham/ma/TOin its heatוַיְיַבֵּשׁvay/yab/BESHand witheredאֶת־הֶחָצִירet-he/cha/TSIRthe grassוַיִּפֹּלvay/yip/POLand fellצִיצוֹtsi/TSOits flowerוְחֵןve/CHENand the grace ofמַרְאֵהוּmar/E/huits appearanceאָבָדa/VADperishedכֵּןkensoגַּםgamalsoיִבּוֹלyib/BOLwill fadeהֶעָשִׁירhe/a/SHIRthe richבַּהֲלִיכוֹתָיו׃ba/ha/li/kho/TAYVin his goings

    For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.

    אַשְׁרֵיash/REblessed isהָאִישׁha/ISHthe manאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatיִסְבֹּלyis/BOLenduresמַסָּהmas/SAtrialכִּיkiforכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenנִבְחַןniv/CHANhe is testedיִקַּחyik/KACHhe shall receiveעֲטֶרֶתa/TE/retthe crown ofהַחַיִּיםha/chay/YIMlifeאֲשֶׁר־הִבְטִיחַa/SHER-hiv/TI/achthat has promisedהָאָדוֹןha/a/DONthe Lordלְאֹהֲבָיו׃le/o/ha/VAYVto those who love Him

    Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

13. 13

    אַל־יֹאמַרal-yo/MARlet not sayאִישׁisha manכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenיְנֻסֶּהye/nus/SEhe is temptedמֵאֵתme/ETofהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodאֲנִיa/NIIמְנֻסֶּהme/nus/SEtemptedכִּיkiforהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodאֵינֶנּוּe/NEN/nuis notמְנֻסֶּהme/nus/SEtemptedבָּרָעba/RAby evilוְהוּאve/HUand Heלֹא־יְנַסֶּהlo-ye/nas/SEdoes not temptאִישׁ׃ishanyone

    Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:

14. 14

    כִּיkibutאִם־יְנֻסֶּהim-ye/nus/SErather is temptedכׇל־אִישׁkhol-ishevery manכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenיִדַּחyid/DACHis drawn awayבְּתַאֲוַתbe/ta/a/VATby the desire ofנַפְשׁוֹnaf/SHOhis soulוְיִפָּתֶה׃ve/yip/pa/TEand enticed

    But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

15. 15

    וְהַתַּאֲוָהve/hat/ta/a/VAand the desireכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenהָרְתָהha/re/TAconceivedתֵּלֵדte/LEDwill bearחֵטְאchetsinוְהַחֵטְאve/ha/CHETand sinכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenיִכְלֶהyikh/LEit is completedיוֹלִידyo/LIDbrings forthאֶת־הַמָּוֶת׃et-ham/MA/vetdeath

    Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

16. 16

    אַל־תִּתְעוּal-tit/Udo not go astrayאַחַיa/CHAYmy brothersהָאֲהוּבִים׃ha/a/hu/VIMbeloved

    Do not err, my beloved brethren.

17. 17

    כׇּל־מַתָּתkol-mat/TATevery giftטוֹבָהto/VAgoodוְכׇל־מַתָּנָהve/KHOL-mat/ta/NAand every giftתְמִימָהte/mi/MAcompleteמִמַּעַלmim/MA/alfrom aboveהִיאhiisוְיוֹרֶדֶתve/yo/RE/detand comes downמֵאֲבִיme/A/VIfrom the Father ofהָאוֹרוֹתha/o/ROTlightsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoאֵין־עִמּוֹen-im/MOis not with Himתְּמוּרָהte/mu/RAchangeוְאֵיןve/ENand there is noצֵלtsela shadow ofחֲלִיפָה׃cha/li/FAshifting

    Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

18. 18

    בִּרְצוֹנוֹbir/tso/NOby His willיָלַדya/LADbegotאוֹתָנוּo/TA/nuusבִּדְבַרbid/VARby the word ofהָאֱמֶתha/e/METtruthלִהְיוֹתֵנוּlih/yo/te/NUthat we should beכְּמוֹke/MOlikeבִּכּוּרֵיbik/ku/REthe firstfruits ofבְּרִיּוֹתָיו׃be/riy/yo/TAYVHis creatures

    Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

19. 19

    עַל־כֵּןal-kenthereforeאַחַיa/CHAYmy brothersהָאֲהוּבִיםha/a/hu/VIMbelovedיְהִיye/HIlet beכׇל־אִישׁkhol-ishevery manמָהִירma/HIRquickלִשְׁמֹעַlish/MO/ato hearכְּבַדke/VADslowלְדַבֵּרle/dab/BERto speakאֶרֶךְE/rekhslow ofאַפַּיִם׃ap/PA/yimanger

    Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

20. 20

    כִּיkiforחֲמַתcha/MATthe wrath ofאָדָםa/DAMmanלֹאlodoes notיִפְעַלyif/ALworkצִדְקַתtsid/KATthe righteousness ofאֱלֹהִים׃e/lo/HIMGod

    For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

21. 21

    לָכֵןla/KHENthereforeהָסִירוּha/SI/ruput awayמֵעֲלֵיכֶםme/a/le/KHEMfrom youכׇּל־טֻמְאָהkol-tum/Aall uncleannessוְיֶתֶרve/YE/terand the rest ofרֹעַRO/athe evil ofוּקְחוּu/ke/CHUand takeבַעֲנָוָהva/a/na/VAwith meeknessאֶת־הַדָּבָרet-had/da/VARthe wordהַנָּטוּעַhan/na/TU/aplantedבָּכֶםba/KHEMin youאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichיָכֹלya/KHOLis ableלְהוֹשִׁיעַle/ho/SHI/ato saveאֶת־נַפְשֹׁתֵיכֶם׃et-naf/sho/te/KHEMyour souls

    Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

22. 22

    וִהְיוּvih/YUand beעֹשֵׂיo/SEdoers ofהַדָּבָרhad/da/VARthe wordוְלֹאve/LOand notשֹׁמְעָיוshom/AYVits hearersלְבַדle/VADonlyוּמַשִּׁיאִיםu/mash/shi/IMdeceivingאֶת־נַפְשֹׁתֵיכֶם׃et-naf/sho/te/KHEMyour souls

    But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

23. 23

    כִּיkiforאִם־יֵשׁim-yeshif there isאִישׁisha manשֹׁמֵעַsho/ME/aa hearer ofהַדָּבָרhad/da/VARthe wordוְלֹאve/LOand notעֹשֵׂהוּo/SE/huits doerדּוֹמֶהdo/MEis likeהוּאhuheלְאִישׁle/ISHa manמַבִּיטmab/BITlooking atאֶת־פְּנֵיet-pe/NEthe face ofמוֹלַדְתּוֹmo/lad/TOhis birthבַּמַּרְאָה׃bam/mar/Ain a mirror

    For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:

24. 24

    כִּיkiforהִבִּיטhib/BIThe lookedאֶל־מַרְאֵהוּel-mar/E/huat his appearanceוַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand wentלְדַרְכּוֹle/dar/KOhis wayוּבְרֶגַעu/ve/RE/gaand in a momentשָׁכַחSHA/khachforgotמַה־תׇּאֳרוֹ׃ma-to/o/ROwhat his form was

    For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.

25. 25

    אֲבָלa/VALbutהַמַּשְׁקִיףham/mash/KIFthe one who looksבְּתוֹרַתbe/to/RATin the law ofהַדְּרוֹרhad/de/RORlibertyהַתְּמִימָהhat/te/mi/MAthe perfectוְעֹמֵדve/o/MEDand remainsבָּהּbato itוְאֵינֶנּוּve/e/NEN/nuand is notשֹׁמֵעַsho/ME/aa hearerשֹׁכֵחַsho/KHE/achforgetfulכִּיkibutאִם־עֹשֵׂהim-o/SErather a doer ofהַמַּעֲשֶׂהham/ma/a/SEthe workהָאִישׁha/ISHthe manהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisיְאֻשַּׁרye/ush/SHARshall be blessedבְּמַעֲשֵׂהוּ׃be/ma/a/SE/huin his doing

    But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

26. 26

    אִםimifאִישׁisha manמִכֶּםmik/KEMof youיְדַמֶּהye/dam/MEthinksלִהְיוֹתlih/YOTto beעֹבֵדo/VEDa worshiper ofאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodוְאֵינֶנּוּve/e/NEN/nuand does notשָׂםsamputרֶסֶןRE/sena bridleלִלְשֹׁנוֹlil/sho/NOon his tongueכִּיkibutאִם־מַשִּׁיאim-mash/SHIrather deceivesאֶת־לִבּוֹet-lib/BOhis heartשָׁוְאshavemptinessעֲבֹדַתa/vo/DATthe worship ofהָאִישׁha/ISHthe manהַזֶּה׃haz/ZEthis

    If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.

27. 27

    זֹאתzotthisהִיאhiisהָעֲבֹדָהha/a/vo/DAthe worshipהַבָּרָהhab/ba/RApureוְהַטְּהוֹרָהve/hat/te/ho/RAand pureלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodוְהָאָבve/Ha/AVand the Fatherלִפְקֹדlif/KODto visitאֶת־הַיְתוֹמִיםet-hay/to/MIMthe orphansוְהָאַלְמָנוֹתve/ha/al/ma/NOTand the widowsבְּצָרָתָםbe/tsa/ra/TAMin their distressוְלִשְׁמֹרve/lish/MORand to keepאֶת־נַפְשׁוֹet-naf/SHOhimselfנָקִיna/KIinnocentמִן־הָעוֹלָם׃min-ha/o/LAMfrom the world

    Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
