    כִּיbecauseזֶהthisמַלְכִּי־צֶדֶקMelchizedekמֶלֶךְking-ofשָׁלֵםSalemכֹּהֵןpriest-ofלְאֵלthe-GodעֶלְיוֹןMost-Highאֲשֶׁרwhichיָצָאhe-went-forthלִקְרַאתto-meetאַבְרָהָםAbrahamבְּשׁוּבוֹwhen-he-returnedמֵהַכּוֹתfrom-the-slaughter-ofאֶת־הַמְּלָכִיםthe-kingsוַיְבָרֲכֵהוּ׃and-he blessed-him

    For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;

    וַאֲשֶׁרand-whomחָלַק־לוֹgave-himאַבְרָהָםAbrahamמַעֲשֵׂרa-tenth-partמִכֹּלof-allשְׁמוֹhis-nameהוּאbeingמֶלֶךְKing-ofהַצְּדָקָהrighteousnessוְעוֹדand-after-thatמֶלֶךְKing-ofשָׁלֵםSalemהוּאwhich-isמֶלֶךְKing-ofהַשָּׁלוֹם׃peace

    To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;

    בְּאֵין־אָבwithout-fatherבְּאֵין־אֵםwithout-motherבְּאֵיןwithoutיַחַשׂdescentוּלְיָמָיוof-daysאֵיןneitherתְּחִלָּהbeginningוּלְחַיָּיוof-lifeאֵיןnorסוֹףendוּבְזֹאת־נִדְמֶהbut-made-likeלְבֶן־הָאֱלֹהִיםunto-the-Son-of-Godהוּאheעוֹמֵדabidethבִּכְהֻנָּתוֹa-priestלָנֶצַח׃continually

    Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.

    וּרְאוּand-seeמַה־גָּדוֹלhow-greatהוּאthis-man-wasאֲשֶׁרunto-whomגַּם־אַבְרָהָםeven-Abrahamאָבִינוּthe-patriarchנָתַן־לוֹgaveמַעֲשֵׂרthe-tenthמֵרֵאשִׁיתof-the-best-ofהַכֹּל׃the-spoils

    Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils.

    הֶן־בְּנֵיand-verily-they-of-the-sons-ofלֵוִיLeviנֹחֲלֵיwho-receiveהַכְּהֻנָּהthe-office-of-the-priesthoodיֶשׁ־חֹקhave-a-commandmentלָהֶםto-themעַל־פִּיaccording-toהַתּוֹרָהthe-lawלָקַחַתto-takeאֶת־הַמַּעַשְׂרוֹתthe-tithe(pl)מִן־הָעָםfrom-the-peopleמִן־אֲחֵיהֶםfrom-their-brethrenאֲשֶׁרwhichאַף־הֵםyea-theyיֹצְאֵיthat-come-out-ofיֶרֶךְthe-loins-ofאַבְרָהָם׃Abraham

    And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham:

    וַאֲשֶׁרand-whomאֵינֶנּוּthere-is-notמִתְיַחֵשׂcounted-descentלְמִשְׁפַּחְתָּםfrom-themהוּאheלָקַחreceived-tithesאֶת־הַמַּעֲשֵׂרthe-titheמִן־אַבְרָהָםof-Abrahamוַיְבָרֶךְand-blessedאֶת־אֲשֶׁרhim-thatהָיְתָה־לּוֹhadהַהַבְטָחָה׃the-promise

    But he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises.

    וְהִנֵּהand-beholdנָכוֹןwithout-contradictionהַדָּבָרthe-matterשֶׁהַקָּטֹןthat-the-lessיְבֹרַךְis-blessedעַל־יְדֵיofהַגָּדוֹלthe-betterמִמֶּנּוּ׃than-him

    And without all contradiction the less is blessed of the better.

    וּפֹהand-hereבְּנֵיthe-sons-ofאָדָםmanשֶׁיָּמוּתוּthat-dieלֹקְחִיםreceiveאֶת־הַמַּעֲשֵׂרtithesאֲבָלbutשָׁםthereלֹקְחוֹhe-receiveth-themמִיheשֶׁהוּעַדof-whom-witnessedעָלָיוit-isכִּיthatהוּאheחָי׃liveth

    And here men that die receive tithes; but there he receiveth them, of whom it is witnessed that he liveth.

    וְיִתָּכֵןand-one-mayלוֹמַרso-sayכִּיthatגַם־לֵוִיalso-Leviהַלּקֵחַwho-receivethאֶת־הַמַּעַשְׂרוֹתtithesהָיָהpayedמְעַשֵׂרtithesבַּעְשֵׂרinאַבְרָהָם׃Abraham

    And as I may so say, Levi also, who receiveth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham.

    כִּיbecauseעוֹדyetבְּיֶרֶךְin-the-loins-ofהָאָבhis-fatherהָיָהhe-wasבְּצֵאתwhen-went-outמַלְכִּי־צֶדֶקMelchizedekלִקְרָאתוֹ׃to-meet-him

    For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedec met him.

    עַל־כֵּןthereforeאִלּוּifהָיְתָהwereשְׁלֵמוּתperfectionעַל־יְדֵיbyכְהֻנַּתthe-priesthood-ofבְּנֵיthe-sons-ofלֵוִיLeviאֲשֶׁר־בָּהּfor-under-itנִתְּנָהreceivedהַתּוֹרָהthe-lawלָעָםthe-peopleלָמָּה־זֶּהwhat-furtherצָרִיךְneedלָקוּםshould-riseעוֹדanotherכֹּהֵןpriestאַחֵרotherעַל־דִּבְרָתִיafter-the-order-ofמַלְכִּי־צֶדֶקMelchizedekוְלֹאand-notיֹאמַרbe-calledעַל־דִּבְרָתִיafter-the-order-ofאַהֲרֹן׃Aaron

    If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?

  12. 12

    כִּיbecauseבְּהִשְׁתַּנּוֹתbeing-changedהַכְּהֻנָּהthe-priesthoodצָרִיךְthere-is-madeשֶׁתִּשְׁתַּנֶּהa-change-ofגַּם־הַתּוֹרָה׃also-the-law

    For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.

    כִּיbecauseאֲשֶׁר־מְדֻבָּרof-whom-is-spokenבּוֹhimכָּזֹאתthese-thingsהוּאheמִשֵּׁבֶטof-tribeאַחֵרanotherאֲשֶׁרof-whichמֵעוֹלָםno-manלֹא־שֵׁרֵתgave-attendanceאִישׁanyמִמֶּנּוּof-itבַּמִּזְבֵּחַ׃at-the-altar

    For he of whom these things are spoken pertaineth to another tribe, of which no man gave attendance at the altar.

  14. 14

    כִּיbecauseגָלוּיevidentלַכֹּלto-allאֲשֶׁרthatאֲדֹנֵינוּour-Lordצָמַחsprangמִיהוּדָהout-of-Judaמִן־הַשֵּׁבֶטfrom-the-tribeאֲשֶׁרwhichמשֶׁהMosesלֹא־דִבֶּרspakeאֵלָיוconcerning-whichדָּבָרnothingעַל־הַכְּהֻנָּה׃concerning-priesthood

    For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood.

  15. 15

    וְעוֹדand-againיוֹתֵרfar-moreבָּרוּרevidentהוּאit-isאִם־יוּקַםthere-arisethבְּדִמְיוֹןafter-the-similitude-ofמַלְכִּי־צֶדֶקMelchizedekכֹּהֵןpriestאַחֵר׃another

    And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest,

    אֲשֶׁרwhichאֵינֶנּוּthere-is-notעַל־פִּיaccording-toחֻקַּתthe-law-ofבָּשָׂרa-carnalוָדָםcommandmentאֶלָּאbut-ratherעַל־פִּיafterכֹּחַthe-power-ofחַיִּיםlifeשֶׁאֵיןthat-hathלָהֶםnoהֶפְסֵק׃end

    Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life.

  17. 17

    כִּי־הֵעִידbecause-he-testifiedעָלָיוupon-himאַתָּה־כֹהֵןyou-are-a-priestלְעוֹלָםfor-everעַל־דִּבְרָתִיafter-the-order-ofמַלְכִּי־צֶדֶק׃Melchizedek

    For he testifieth, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

  18. 18

    בַּעֲבוּרbecause-ofאֲשֶׁרwhichהַמִּצְוָהthe-commandmentהַקֹּדֶמֶתgoing-beforeהוּסָרָהis-disannulledבִּהְיוֹתָהּfor-theחֲלוּשָׁהweaknessוְקִצְרַת־יָדand-unprofitablenessמֵהוֹעִיל׃thereof

    For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof.

  19. 19

    כִּיbecauseהַתּוֹרָהthe-lawהִיאitselfלֹא־הִשְׁלִימָהmade-perfectדָּבָרnothingוְהִנֵּהbutנִכְנְסָהthe-bringing-in-ofתַחְתֶּיהָin-its-placeתִּקְוָהa-hopeטוֹבָהbetterמִמֶּנָּהdidאֲשֶׁר־נִקְרַבwhereby-we-draw-nearעַל־יָדָהּuntoלֵאלֹהִים׃God

    For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God.

  20. 20

    וּכְפִיand-inasmuch-asאֲשֶׁרwhichלֹאnotבְּלֹאwithoutשְׁבוּעָהan-oathהָיְתָה־זֹּאת׃was-this-done

    And inasmuch as not without an oath he was made priest:

  21. 21

    כִּיbecauseהֵמָּהtheyנִתְכַּהֲנוּwere-made-priestsבְלִי־שְׁבוּעָהwithout-an-oathוְזֶהbut-thisבִּשְׁבוּעָהwith-an-oathעַל־יְדֵיbyהָאֹמֵרhim-that-saidלוֹunto-himנִשְׁבַּעswareהָאָדוֹןthe-Lordוְלֹאand-notיִנָּחֵםwill-repentאַתָּה־כֹהֵןyou-are-a-priestלְעוֹלָםfor-everעַל־דִּבְרָתִיafter-the-order-ofמַלְכִּי־צֶדֶק׃Melchizedek

    (For those priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath by him that said unto him, The Lord sware and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec:)

  22. 22

    הִנֵּהbeholdבְּזֹאתin-thisמְעֻלָּהa-betterהִיאsurety-ofהַבְּרִיתthe-testamentאֲשֶׁרwhichיֵשׁוּעַJesusעָרַבwas-madeאוֹתָהּ׃of-it

    By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament.

  23. 23

    וְשָׁםand-thereנִתְכַּהֲנוּwere-priestsרַבִּיםmanyמִפְּנֵיbecauseאֲשֶׁרthatהַמָּוֶתdeathלֹאnotהִנִּיחָםsuffered-themלְהִוָּתֵרto-continueבָּאָרֶץ׃on-the-earth

    And they truly were many priests, because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death:

  24. 24

    אֲבָלbutזֶהthis-manיַעֲמֹדcontinuethלְעוֹלָםeverוַיְהִי־לוֹhathכְהֻנָּהa-priesthoodאֲשֶׁרwhichלֹא־תַעֲבֹרpasseth-notמִמֶּנּוּ׃from-him

    But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood.

  25. 25

    אֲשֶׁרwhichעַל־כֵּןthereforeיוּכַלhe-is-ableלְהוֹשִׁיעַto-saveבַּכֹּלto-theוָכֹלuttermostאֶת־הַנִּגָּשִׁיםthem-that-comeעַל־יָדוֹby-himלֵאלֹהִיםunto-Godכִּיseeingחַי־הוּאhe-ever-livethתָמִידcontinuallyלְהַפְגִּיעto-make-intercessionבַּעֲדָם׃for-them

    Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

  26. 26

    כִּיbecauseנָאֲוָה־לָּנוּbecame-usכֹּהֵןa-high-priestכָּזֶהsuchשֶׁהוּאwho-isחָסִידholyוְתָמִיםand-harmlessוְטָהוֹרand-undefiledוְנִבְדָּלand-separateמִן־הַחַטָּאִיםfrom-sinnersוְנִשָׂאand-made-higherמֵהַשָּׁמָיִם׃than-the-heavens

    For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;

  27. 27

    אֲשֶׁרwhichאֵיןneedeth-notעָלָיוupon-himכַּכֹּהֲנִיםas-thoseהַגְּדוֹלִיםhighהָהֵםpriestsלְהַקְרִיבto-offer-upיוֹםdayיוֹםby-dayבָּרִאשׁוֹנָהfirstעַל־חַטֹּאתָיוupon-his-sinsוְאַחֲרֵי־כֵןand-after-thusעַל־חַטֹּאתupon-the-sins-ofהָעָםthe-peopleכִּי־זֹאתfor-thisעָשָׂהhe-didבְּפַעַםonceאַחַתfor-allבְּהַקְרִיבוֹwhen-he-offered-upאֶת־נַפְשׁוֹ׃himself

    Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.

  28. 28

    כִּיbecauseהַתּוֹרָהthe-lawהֶעֱמִידָהmakethלְכֹהֲנִיםhigh-priestsגְּדוֹלִיםmenבְּנֵי־אָדָםwhich-haveחַלָּשִׁיםinfirmityאֲבָלbutדְּבַר־הַשְּׁבוּעָהthe-word-of-the-oathהַבָּאָהwhich-wasאַחֲרֵיsinceהַתּוֹרָהthe-lawהֶעֱמִידmakethאֶת־הַבֵּןthe-Sonהַמֻּשְׁלָםwho-is-consecratedלְעוֹלָם׃for-evermore

    For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore.
