   And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.

   וַיִּקְרְאוּvay/yik/re/Uand calledשְׁנֵים־הֶעָשָׂרshe/NEM-he/a/SARthe twelveאֶת־הֲמוֹןet-ha/MONthe crowd ofהַתַּלְמִידִיםhat/tal/mi/DIMthe disciplesוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidלֹא־נָאוֶהlo-na/VEit is not fittingלָנוּLA/nufor usכִּיkithatנַעֲזֹבna/a/ZOVwe leaveאֶת־דְּבַרet-de/VARthe word ofהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodוּנְשָׁרֵתu/ne/sha/RETand serveאֶת־הַשֻּׁלְחָנוֹת׃et-hash/shul/cha/NOTthe tables

   Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.

   לָכֵןla/KHENthereforeאַחַיa/CHAYmy brothersבְּרוּ־לָכֶםbe/RU-la/KHEMselect for yourselvesשִׁבְעָהshiv/Asevenאֲנָשִׁיםa/na/SHIMmenמִקִּרְבְּכֶםmik/kir/be/KHEMfrom among youאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwho haveשֵׁםshema nameטוֹבtovgoodלָהֶםla/HEMto themוּמְלֵאִיםu/me/le/IMand full ofרוּחַ־הַקֹּדֶשׁRU/ach-Hak/KO/deshthe Holy Spiritוְחׇכְמָהve/chokh/MAand wisdomוְנַפְקִידֵםve/naf/ki/DEMand we will appoint themעַל־הָעִנְיָןal-ha/in/YANover the matterהַזֶּה׃haz/ZEthis

   Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

   וַאֲנַחְנוּva/a/NACH/nuand weנִשְׁקֹדnish/KODwill devote ourselvesעַל־הַתְּפִלָּהal-hat/te/fil/LAto the prayerוְעַל־שֵׁרוּתve/AL-she/RUTand to the ministry ofהַדָּבָר׃had/da/VARthe word

   But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

   וַיִּיטַבvay/yi/TAVand was goodהַדָּבָרhad/da/VARthe wordלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeכׇל־הֶהָמוֹןkhol-he/ha/MONall the crowdוַיִּבְחֲרוּvay/yiv/cha/RUand they choseאֶת־אִסְטְפָנוֹסet-Is/te/fa/NOSStephenאִישׁisha manמָלֵאma/LEfull ofאֱמוּנָהe/mu/NAfaithוְרוּחַ־הַקֹּדֶשׁve/RU/ach-hak/KO/deshand the Holy Spiritוְאֶת־פִילִפּוֹסve/ET-fi/lip/POSand Philipוְאֶת־פְּרוֹכוֹרוֹסve/ET-pe/ro/kho/ROSand Prochorusוְאֶת־נִיקָנוֹרve/ET-ni/ka/NORand Nicanorוְאֶת־טִימוֹןve/ET-ti/MONand Timonוְאֶת־פַּרְמְנָסve/ET-par/me/NASand Parmenasוְאֶת־נִיקְלָסve/ET-ni/ke/LASand Nicolasגֵּרgera proselyte ofאַנְטְיוֹכְיָא׃An/te/yokh/YAAntioch

   And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:

   אֶת־אֵלֶּהet-EL/letheseהֶעֱמִידוּhe/e/mi/DUthey stoodלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeהַשְּׁלִיחִיםhash/she/li/CHIMthe apostlesוַיִּתְפַּלֲלוּvay/yit/pa/la/LUand they prayedוַיִּסְמְכוּvay/yis/me/KHUand they laidאֶת־יְדֵיהֶםet-ye/de/HEMtheir handsעֲלֵיהֶם׃a/le/HEMon them

   Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand wasדְּבַרde/VARthe word ofהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodהוֹלֵךְho/LEKHgoingוְגָדֵלve/ga/DELand growingוַיִּרֶבvay/YI/revand multipliedמִסְפַּרmis/PARthe number ofהַתַּלְמִידִיםhat/tal/mi/DIMthe disciplesבִּירוּשָׁלַיִםbI/ru/sha/LA/yimin Jerusalemעַד־מְאֹדad-me/ODgreatlyוְגַם־הָמוֹןve/GAM-ha/MONand also a crowdרַבravgreatמִן־הַכֹּהֲנִיםmin-hak/ko/ha/NIMof the priestsהִטּוּhit/TUinclinedאֶת־לִבָּםet-lib/BAMtheir heartאֶל־הָאֱמוּנָה׃el-ha/e/mu/NAto the faith

   And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

   וְאִסְטְפָנוֹסve/Is/te/fa/NOSand Stephenמָלֵאma/LEfull ofאֱמוּנָהe/mu/NAfaithוּגְבוּרָהu/ge/vu/RAand powerוַיַּעַשׂvay/YA/asdidאֹתוֹתo/TOTsignsוּמוֹפְתִיםu/mof/TIMand wondersגְּדוֹלִיםge/do/LIMgreatבְּקֶרֶבbe/KE/revamongהָעָם׃ha/AMthe people

   And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

   וַיָּקוּמוּvay/ya/KU/muand roseאֲנָשִׁיםa/na/SHIMmenמִבֵּית־הַכְּנֶסֶתmib/BET-hak/ke/NE/setfrom the house of the assemblyהַנִּקְרָאhan/nik/RAcalledעַל־שֵׁםal-shemby the name ofהַלִּיבֶרְטִינִיםhal/Li/ver/ti/NIMthe Libertinesוְהַקּוּרִינִיםve/hak/Ku/ri/NIMand Cyreniansוְהָאֲלֶכְסַנְדְּרִיִּיםve/Ha/a/lekh/san/de/riy/YIMand Alexandriansוּמִן־בְּנֵיu/MIN-be/NEand of the sons ofקִילִיקְיָאKi/li/ke/YACiliciaוְאַסְיָאve/As/YAand Asiaוַיִּתְוַכְּחוּvay/yit/vak/ke/CHUand they arguedעִם־אִסְטְפָנוֹס׃im-Is/te/fa/NOSwith Stephen

   Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen.

10. 10

    וְלֹאve/LOand notיָכְלוּya/khe/LUwere they ableעֲמֹדa/MODto standלְנֶגֶדle/NE/gedagainstהַחׇכְמָהha/chokh/MAthe wisdomוְהָרוּחַve/Ha/RU/achand the Spiritאֲשֶׁר־דִּבֶּרa/SHER-dib/BERthat he spokeבּוֹ׃bowith it

    And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.

11. 11

    וַיָּסִיתוּvay/ya/si/TUand they incitedבוֹvoagainst himאֲנָשִׁיםa/na/SHIMmenלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingשָׁמַעְנוּsha/MA/nuwe have heardאֹתוֹo/TOhimמְדַבֵּרme/dab/BERspeakingגִּדּוּפִיםgid/du/FIMblasphemiesבְּמֹשֶׁהbe/Mo/SHEagainst Mosesוּבֵאלֹהִים׃u/ve/lo/HIMand against God

    Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God.

12. 12

    וַיְעוֹרְרוּvay/or/RUand they stirred upאֶת־הָעָםet-ha/AMthe peopleוְאֶת־הַזְּקֵנִיםve/ET-haz/ze/ke/NIMand the eldersוְהַסּוֹפְרִיםve/has/sof/RIMand the scribesוַיָּקוּמוּvay/ya/KU/muand they roseעָלָיוa/LAYVagainst himוַיַּחְטְפֻהוּvay/yach/te/fu/HUand seized himוַיְבִיאֻהוּvay/vi/U/huand brought himלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeסַנְהֶדְרִין׃San/hed/RINthe Sanhedrin

    And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council,

    וַיַּעֲמִידוּvay/ya/a/MI/duand they stood upעֵדֵיe/DEwitnesses ofשָׁקֶרSHA/kerfalsehoodאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoאָמְרוּa/me/RUsaidהָאִישׁha/ISHthe manהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisאֵינֶנּוּe/NEN/nudoes notחָדֵלcha/DELceaseלְדַבֵּרle/dab/BERto speakגִּדּוּפִיםgid/du/FIMblasphemiesנֶגֶדNE/gedagainstמְקוֹםme/KOMthe place ofהַקֹּדֶשׁhak/KO/deshholinessהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisוְנֶגֶדve/NE/gedand againstהַתּוֹרָה׃hat/to/RAthe law

    And set up false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law:

14. 14

    כִּיkiforשְׁמַעֲנֻהוּshe/ma/a/nu/HUwe heard himאֹמֵרo/MERsayingזֶהzethisיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusהַנָּצְרִיhan/Na/tse/RIof Nazarethיִתֹּץyit/TOTSwill tear downאֶת־הַמָּקוֹםet-ham/ma/KOMthe placeהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisוִישַׁנֶּהvi/shan/NEand will changeאֶת־הַחֻקִּיםet-ha/chuk/KIMthe statutesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatמָסַר־לָנוּma/SAR-LA/nuhanded down to usמֹשֶׁה׃Mo/SHEMoses

    For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered us.

15. 15

    וַיַּבִּיטוּvay/yab/BI/tuand they lookedאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himכׇּל־הַיֹּשְׁבִיםkol-hay/yosh/VIMall who satבְּסַנְהֶדְרִיןbe/San/hed/RINin the Sanhedrinוַיִּרְאוּvay/yir/Uand they sawוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdפָנָיוfa/NAYVhis faceכִּפְנֵיkif/NElike the face ofמַלְאָךְ׃mal/AKHan angel

    And all that sat in the council, looking steadfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.
