1. 1

   וְכַאֲשֶׁרAnd-whenנִמְלַטְנוּwe-were-escaped,נוֹדַעthen-they-knewלָנוּto-usכִּי־שֵׁםthat-was-calledהָאִיthe-islandמְלִיטִי׃Melita.

   And when they were escaped, then they knew that the island was called Melita.

2. 2

   וְהַלֹּעֲזִיםAnd-the-barbarous-peopleלֹאnoהִמְעִיטוּshewed-littleחַסְדָּםkindnessעִמָּנוּus:כִּי־בִעֲרוּfor-they-kindledאֵשׁa-fire,וַיַּאַסְפוּand-receivedאֶת־כֻּלָּנוּus-every-oneאֲלֵיהֶםto-them,מִפְּנֵיbecause-ofהַגֶּשֶׁםthe-rainהַיּוֹרֵדpresent,וּמִפְּנֵיand-because-ofהַקֹּר׃the-cold.

   And the barbarous people shewed us no little kindness: for they kindled a fire, and received us every one, because of the present rain, and because of the cold.

3. 3

   וּפוֹלוֹסAnd-when-Paulאָסַףhad-gatheredלוֹhimעֲרֵמַתa-bundle-ofקֹצִיםsticks,וַיָּשֶׂםand-laid-themעַל־הַמּוֹקֵדon-the-fire,וַיֵּצֵאthere-cameאֶפְעֶהa-viperמִפְּנֵיout-ofהַחֹםthe-heat,וַיֹּאחֶזand-fastenedבְּיָּדוֹ׃on-his-hand.

   And when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks, and laid them on the fire, there came a viper out of the heat, and fastened on his hand.

4. 4

   וַיִּרְאוּAnd-when-sawהַלֹּעֲזִיםthe-barbariansאֶת־הַשֶּׁרֶץthe-venomous-beastתָּלוּיhangעַל־יָדוֹon-his-hand,וַיֹּאמְרוּthey-saidאִישׁoneאֶל־רֵעֵהוּamong-another,אָכֵןNo-doubtרֹצֵחis-a-murderer,הָאִישׁmanהַזֶּהthisהַנִּמְלָטwhom,-though-he-hath-escapedמִן־הַיָּםthe-sea,וְרוּחַyet-the-spirit-ofנָקָםvengeanceלֹא־הִנִּיחַsuffereth-notלוֹhimלִחְיוֹת׃to-live.

   And when the barbarians saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance suffereth not to live.

5. 5

   וַיְנַעֵרAnd-he-shook-offהַשֶּׁרֶץthe-beastמֵעַלfromיָדוֹhis-handאֶל־תּוֹךְintoהָאֵשׁthe-fire,וְלֹא־הֵרַעand-felt-no-harmלוֹ׃to-him.

   And he shook off the beast into the fire, and felt no harm.

6. 6

   וְהֵםHowbeit-theyהוֹחִילוּlookedלוֹfor-himאֲשֶׁרwhenיִצְבֶּהshould-have-swollenגוּפוֹhis-body,אוֹ־יִפֹּלor-fallen-downמֵתdeadפִּתְאֹםsuddenly:וַיָּחִילוּbut-after-they-had-lookedעַד־בּוֹשׁa-great-while,וְהִנֵּהand-sawלֹא־קָרָהוּcome-to-him,כׇל־אָסוֹןno-harmוַיֵּהָפֵךְthey-changedלִבָּםtheir-minds,וַיֹּאמְרוּand-saidאֱלֹהִיםa-godהוּא׃that-he-was.

   Howbeit they looked when he should have swollen, or fallen down dead suddenly: but after they had looked a great while, and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a god.

7. 7

   וּבִסְבִיבֵיAnd-in-the-quarters-ofהַמָּקוֹםplaceהַהוּאthe-sameשָׂדוֹתwere-possessionsאֲשֶׁרofלְרֹאשׁthe-chief-man-ofאַנְשֵׁיthe-men-ofהָאִיthe-island,וּשְׁמוֹwhose-name-wasפוֹבְלִיּוֹסPublius;הוּאwhoהֵבִיאreceivedאֹתָנוּusלְבֵיתוֹinto-his-house,וַיְכַלְכֵּלand-lodgedאֹתָנוּusבְּטוּבוֹcourteouslyשְׁלשֶׁתthreeיָמִים׃days.

   In the same quarters were possessions of the chief man of the island, whose name was Publius; who received us, and lodged us three days courteously.

8. 8

   וַאֲבִיAnd-it-came-to-pass,-that-the-father-ofפוֹבְלִיּוֹסPubliusנוֹפֵלlayלְמִשְׁכָּבsickבַּקַּדַּחַתof-a-feverוּבְמַחֲלֵהand-of-a-flux-ofהַמֵּעָיִםthe-bowels:וַיָּבֹאto-whom-entered-in,אֵלָיוunto-himפּוֹלוֹסPaulוַיִּתְפַּלֵּלand-prayed,וַיָּשֶׂםand-laidעָלָיוon-him,אֶת־יָדָיוhis-handsוַיִּרְפָּאֵהוּ׃and-healed-him.

   And it came to pass, that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and of a bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him.

9. 9

   וְאַחֲרֵי־כֵןSo-when-this-was-done,בָּאוּcame,גַּם־הַחֹלִיםothers-also-which-had-diseasesהָאֲחֵרִיםthe-otherאֲשֶׁרwhich-wereבָּאִיin-the-island,וַיֵּרָפֵאוּ׃and-were-healed:

   So when this was done, others also, which had diseases in the island, came, and were healed:

10. 10

    וַיְכַבְּדֻנוּWho-also-honored-usכָּבוֹדwith-honorsגָּדוֹלmany;וּבְלֶכְתֵּנוּand-when-we-departedמִשָּׁםfrom-thence,סִפְּקוּthey-ladedלְנוּusדֵּיwith-such-things-as-wereצָרְכֵּנוּ׃necessary-for-us.

    Who also honoured us with many honours; and when we departed, they laded us with such things as were necessary.

11. 11

    וְאַחֲרֵיAnd-afterשְׁלשֶׁתthreeחֳדָשִׁיםmonthsעָבַרְנוּwe-departedמִשָּׁםfrom-thenceבׇּאֳנִיָּהin-a-shipאֲלֶכְסַנְדְּרִיתof-Alexandria,אֲשֶׁרwhichעָמְדָהhad-winteredבָאִיin-the-isleבִּימֵיin-the-days-ofהַסְּתָוwinter,וְאוֹתand-the-sign-ofדִּגְלָהּwhose-banner-wasהַתְּאוֹמִים׃Castor-and-Pollux.

    And after three months we departed in a ship of Alexandria, which had wintered in the isle, whose sign was Castor and Pollux.

12. 12

    וַנָּבֹאAnd-landingאֶל־סַרְקוּסָאat-Syracuse,וַנֵּשֶׁב־שָׁםwe-tarried-thereשְׁלשֶׁתthreeיָמִים׃days.

    And landing at Syracuse, we tarried there three days.

13. 13

    מִשָּׁםAnd-from-thenceסַבֹּנוּwe-fetched-a-compass,וַנָּבֹאand-cameאֶל־רֶגְיוֹןto-Rhegium:וּבִנְשֹׁבand-after-blewרוּחַthe-windדְּרוֹמִיתsouthבְּיוֹםon-the-dayהַמׇּחֳרָתfollowing,בָּאנוּwe-cameבַּיּוֹםthe-dayהַשֵּׁנִיnextאֶל־פּוֹטִיּוֹלִי׃to-Puteoli:

    And from thence we fetched a compass, and came to Rhegium: and after one day the south wind blew, and we came the next day to Puteoli:

14. 14

    וְשָׁםWhereמָצָאנוּwe-foundאַחִיםbrethren,וַיְבַקְשׁוּand-were-desiredמִמֶּנּוּof-usלָשֶׁבֶתto-tarryאִתָּםwith-themשִׁבְעַתsevenיָמִיםdays:וּבְכֵןand-soהָלַכְנוּwe-wentאֶל־רוֹמִי׃toward-Rome.

    Where we found brethren, and were desired to tarry with them seven days: and so we went toward Rome.

15. 15

    וַיִּשְׁמְעוּAnd-when-heardהָאַחִיםthe-brethrenכִּי־בָאִיםthat-were-comingאֲנַחְנוּwe,וַיֵּצְאוּthey-cameמִשָּׁםfrom-thenceלִקְרָאתֵנוּto-meet-usעַדas-far-asלְשׁוּקthe-forum-ofאַפִּיּוֹסAppii,וְעַדandלִשְׁלשֶׁתThe-threeהַחֲנֻיּוֹתtaverns:וַיַּרְאwhom-when-saw,אֹתָםthemפּוֹלוֹסPaulוַיּוֹדֶהhe-thankedלֵאלֹהִיםGod,וַיִּתְחַזָּק׃and-took-courage.

    And from thence, when the brethren heard of us, they came to meet us as far as Appii forum, and The three taverns: whom when Paul saw, he thanked God, and took courage.

16. 16

    וְאַחַרAnd-whenבֹּאֵנוּwe-cameאֶל־רוֹמִיto-Rome,הֶעֱבִירdeliveredשַׂרthe-centurion-ofהַמֵּאָהthe-hundredאֶת־הָאֲסִירִיםthe-prisonersאֶל־שַׂרto-the-captain-ofהַצָּבָאthe-guard:וּbutלְפוֹלוֹסPaulהִנִּיחוּwas-sufferedלָשֶׁבֶתto-dwellלְבַדּוֹby-himselfעִם־אִישׁwith-a-soldier-ofהַצָּבָאwarהַשֹּׁמֵרthat-keptאוֹתוֹ׃him.

    And when we came to Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard: but Paul was suffered to dwell by himself with a soldier that kept him.

17. 17

    וַיְהִיAnd-it-came-to-pass,מִקֵּץthat-afterשְׁלשֶׁתthreeיָמִיםdaysוַיִּקְרָאcalled-togetherפוֹלוֹסPaulאֵלָיוto-himאֶת־רָאשֵׁיthe-chief-ofהַיְּהוּדִיםthe-Jews:וַיֵּקָּהֲלוּand-when-they-were-come-togetherאֵלָיוto-him,וַיֹּאמֶרhe-saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto-them,אֲנָשִׁיםMenאַחִיםand-brethren,לֹאnothingמָעַלְתִּיthough-I-have-committedמַעַלa-trespassבְּעַמֵּנוּagainst-the-people,וּבְחֻקּוֹתor-customs-ofאֲבוֹתֵינוּour-fathers,וַיַּאַסְרוּנִיyet-was-I-delivered-prisonerבִירוּשָׁלַיִםfrom-Jerusalemוַיִּמְסְרוּנִיand-they-delivered-meלִידֵיinto-the-hands-ofהָרוֹמִיִּים׃the-Romans.

    And it came to pass, that after three days Paul called the chief of the Jews together: and when they were come together, he said unto them, Men and brethren, though I have committed nothing against the people, or customs of our fathers, yet was I delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans.

18. 18

    וְהֵםWho,אַחֲרֵיwhenחָקְרָםthey-had-examinedאֹתִיme,אָמְרוּwouldלְהַתִּירֵנִיhave-let-me-go,כִּיbecauseלֹא־מָצְאוּthere-was-found-noלִיin-meמִשְׁפַּט־מָוֶת׃cause-of-death.

    Who, when they had examined me, would have let me go, because there was no cause of death in me.

19. 19

    וְהַיְּהוּדִיםBut-when-the-Jewsקָמוּ־בִיspake-against-it,וָאֱהִיI-wasמֻכְרָחconstrainedלִקְרֹאto-appealאֶת־קֵיסַרunto-Caesarלְדִינִיfor-my-judgment;וְאֵיןnot-that-I-had-oughtבִּלְבָבִיin-my-heartלִשְׂטוֹןto-accuseאֶת־עַמִּי׃my-nation-of.

    But when the Jews spake against it, I was constrained to appeal unto Cæsar; not that I had ought to accuse my nation of.

20. 20

    וּבַעֲבוּרFor-causeזֹאתthisקָרָאתִיtherefore-have-I-calledלָכֶםfor-you,לִרְאוֹתְכֶםto-see-you,וּלְדַבֵּרand-to-speakעִמָּכֶםwith-you:כִּיbecauseבִּגְלַלthat-forתִּקְוַתthe-hope-ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelאָסוּרboundאֲנִיI-amבַּכֶּבֶלwith-chainהַזֶּה׃this.

    For this cause therefore have I called for you, to see you, and to speak with you: because that for the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain.

21. 21

    וַיֹּאמְרוּAnd-they-saidאֵלָיוunto-him,לֹאneitherנִתְּנוּWe-receivedלָנוּto-usאִגְּרוֹתlettersמֵאֶרֶץout-of-the-land-ofיְהוּדָהJudaeaעַל־אֹדוֹתֶיךָconcerning-you,וְלֹא־בָאneither-cameהֵנָּהhitherאֶחָדanyמִן־הָאַחִיםof-the-brethrenאֲשֶׁרthatהִגִּידshewedאוֹ־דִבֶּרor-spakeעָלֶיךָof-youדָּבָרanyרָע׃harm.

    And they said unto him, We neither received letters out of Judæa concerning thee, neither any of the brethren that came shewed or spake any harm of thee.

22. 22

    אׇמְנָםButחֲפֵצִיםdesireאֲנַחְנוּweלִשְׁמֹעַto-hearאֶת־אֲשֶׁרof-you-whatבִּלְבָבֶךָyou-think:כִּיforנוֹדַעit-is-knownלָנוּto-usאֲשֶׁרthatבְּכׇלin-everyמָקוֹםwhereיָרִיבוּit-is-spoken-against,אֶל־הַכַּתas-concerning-sectהַזֹּאת׃this.

    But we desire to hear of thee what thou thinkest: for as concerning this sect, we know that every where it is spoken against.

23. 23

    וַיָּשִׂימוּAnd-when-they-had-appointedלוֹhimמוֹעֵדa-day,וַיָּבֹאוּthere-cameאֵלָיוto-himרַבִּיםmanyאֶל־מְלוֹנוֹinto-his-lodging;וַיָּעַדand-he-testifiedבָּהֶםto-themוַיְבָאֵרand-expoundedאֶת־מַלְכוּתthe-kingdom-ofיְהוָֹהGod,וַיּוֹכַחpersuadingלָהֶםthemעִנְיְנֵיconcerningיֵשׁוּעַJesus,מִתּוֹרַתboth-out-of-the-law-ofמשֶׁהMoses,וּמִן־הַנְּבִיאִיםand-out-of-the-prophets,מִבֹּקֶרfrom-morningעַד־עָרֶב׃till-evening.

    And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening.

24. 24

    וְיֵשׁAnd-someאֲשֶׁרwhichשָׁמְעוּbelievedאֶל־דְּבָרָיוthe-things-which-were-spoken,וְיֵשׁand-someאֲשֶׁרwhichלֹאnotהֶאֱמִינוּ׃believed.

    And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not.

25. 25

    וַיְהִיAnd-it-came-to-passכִּיwhenחָלְקוּthey-agreed-notבְדַעְתָּםamong-themselves,וַיִּפְנוּthey-turnedוַיֵּלְכוּand-departed,לְדַרְכָּםon-their-wayוּפוֹלוֹסafter-that-Paulמְדַבֵּרhad-spokenרַקoneהַדָּבָרword,הַזֶּהthisהֵיטֵבWellדִּבֶּרspakeרוּחַ־הַקֹּדֶשׁthe-Holy-Ghostלַאֲבוֹתֵינוּunto-our-fathersבְּפִיby-the-mouth-ofיְשַׁעְיָהוּEsaiasהַנָּבִיאthe-prophet,לֵאמֹר׃saying,

    And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the prophet unto our fathers,

26. 26

    לֵךְGoוְאָמַרְתָּand-say,לָעָםunto-peopleהַזֶּהthis,שִׁמְעוּyou-shall-hear,שָׁמוֹעַHearingוְאַל־תָּבִינוּand-shall-not-understand;וּרְאוּyou-shall-see,רָאוֹand-seeingוְאַל־תֵּדָעוּ׃and-not-perceive:

    Saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive:

27. 27

    כִּיForשָׁמֵןis-waxed-gross,לֵבthe-heart-ofהָעָםpeopleהַזֶּהthisוְאׇזְנָיוand-their-earsכָּבְדוּare-dull-of-hearing,וְאֶת־עֵנָיוand-their-eyesהֵשַׁעhave-they-closed;פֶּן־יִרְאֶהlest-they-should-seeבְעֵינָיוwith-their-eyes,וּבְאׇזְנָיוand-with-their-ears,יִשְׁמַעhearוּלְבָבוֹand-with-their-heart,יָבִיןunderstandוְשָׁבand-should-be-converted,וּרְפָאתִיו׃and-I-should-heal-them.

    For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

28. 28

    לָכֵןthereforeדְּעוּBe-it-knownכִּיunto-you,-thatאֶל־הַגּוֹיִםunto-the-Gentilesנִשְׁלְחָהis-sentתְּשׁוּעַתthe-salvation-ofאֱלֹהִיםGod,וְהֵמָּהand-theyיִשְׁמָעוּ׃will-hear-it.

    Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it.

29. 29

    וַיְהִיAnd-it-came-to-passבְּדַבְּרוֹwhen-he-had-saidזֹאתthese-words,וַיַּעַבְרוּdeparted,מֵעָלָיוfrom-himהַיְּהוּדִיםthe-Jewsוַיִּתְוַכְּחוּand-had-reasoningהַרְבֵּהgreatאִישׁoneעִם־רֵעֵהוּ׃among-another.

    And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, and had great reasoning among themselves.

30. 30

    וּפוֹלוֹסAnd-Paulיָשַׁבdweltשְׁנָתַיִםtwo-yearsיָמִיםwholeבְּבֵיתוֹin-his-own-houseאֲשֶׁרwhichשָׂכַר־לוֹhe-hired,וַיְקַבֵּלand-receivedאֵת־כׇּל־הַבָּאִיםall-that-came-inאֵלָיו׃unto-him,

    And Paul dwelt two whole years in his own hired house, and received all that came in unto him,

31. 31

    וַיִּקְרָאPreachingאֶת־מַלְכוּתthe-kingdom-ofהָאֱלֹהִיםGod,וַיְלַמֵּדand-teachingאֶת־דַּרְכֵיthose-things-which-concernיֵשׁוּעַJesusהַמָּשִׁיחַChrist,אֲדֹנֵינוּthe-Lordבְּלִיwithכׇל־פָּחַדall-confidence,וְאֵיןno-manמֹנֵעַ׃forbidding-him.

    Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him.
