   Now when Festus was come into the province, after three days he ascended from Cæsarea to Jerusalem.

   וְהַכֹּהֵןve/hak/ko/HENand the priestהַגָּדוֹלhag/ga/DOLhighוְרָאשֵׁיve/ra/SHEand the chiefs ofהַיְּהוּדִיםhay/Ye/hu/DIMthe Jewsהוֹדִיעֻהוּho/di/u/HUinformed himאֶת־רִיבָםet-ri/VAMof their disputeעִם־פּוֹלוֹסim-Po/LOSwith Paulוַיִּפְצְרוּ־בוֹ׃vay/yif/tse/RU-voand they urged him

   Then the high priest and the chief of the Jews informed him against Paul, and besought him,

   וַיִּשְׁאֲלוּvay/yish/a/LUand askedמִמֶּנּוּmim/MEN/nuof himלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTto doחֶסֶדCHE/seda favorעִמָּהֶםim/ma/HEMwith themלַהֲבִיאוֹla/ha/vi/Oto bring himיְרוּשָׁלָיִםYe/ru/sha/LA/yimto Jerusalemוְהֵמָּהve/HEM/maand theyמִתְנַכְּלִיםmit/nak/ke/LIMwere plottingאֹתוֹo/TOagainst himלַהֲמִיתוֹla/ha/mi/TOto kill himבַּדָּרֶךְ׃bad/DA/rekhon the way

   And desired favour against him, that he would send for him to Jerusalem, laying wait in the way to kill him.

   But Festus answered, that Paul should be kept at Cæsarea, and that he himself would depart shortly thither.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלָכֵןla/KHENthereforeיֵרְדוּyer/DUlet go downאִתִּיit/TIwith meהָעֲצוּמִיםha/a/tsu/MIMthe mightyאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichבָּכֶםba/KHEMamong youוְאִם־יֵשׁve/IM-yeshand if there isמְאוּםme/UMa blemishבָּאִישׁba/ISHin the manהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisיִשְׂטְנוּyis/te/NUand accuseבוֹ׃voagainst him

   Let them therefore, said he, which among you are able, go down with me, and accuse this man, if there be any wickedness in him.

   וַיֵּשֶׁבvay/YE/shevand he stayedבְּתוֹכָםbe/to/KHAMamong themיוֹתֵרyo/TERmoreמֵעֲשָׂרָהme/a/sa/RAthan tenיָמִיםya/MIMdaysוַיֵּרֶדvay/YE/redand he went downאֶל־קֵיסַרְיָהel-Ke/sar/YAto Caesareaוּמִמׇּחֳרָתu/mim/mo/cho/RATand on the next dayיָשַׁבya/SHAVhe satעַל־כִּסֵּאal-kis/SEon the seat ofהַמִּשְׁפָּטham/mish/PATthe judgmentוַיְצַוvay/TSAVand commandedלְהָבִיאle/ha/VIto bringאֶת־פּוֹלוֹס׃et-Po/LOSPaul

   And when he had tarried among them more than ten days, he went down unto Cæsarea; and the next day sitting on the judgment seat commanded Paul to be brought.

   And when he was come, the Jews which came down from Jerusalem stood round about, and laid many and grievous complaints against Paul, which they could not prove.

   וְהוּאve/HUand heהִצְטַדֵּקhits/tad/DEKdefended himselfלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingלֹא־חָטָאתִיlo-cha/TA/tiI have not sinnedבִמְאוּמָהvim/U/main anythingלֹאlonotלְדָתle/DATagainst the law ofהַיְּהוּדִיםhay/Ye/hu/DIMthe Jewsוְלֹאve/LOand notלַמִּקְדָּשׁlam/mik/DASHagainst the templeוְלֹאve/LOand notלְקֵיסָר׃le/Ke/SARagainst Caesar

   While he answered for himself, Neither against the law of the Jews, neither against the temple, nor yet against Cæsar, have I offended any thing at all.

   וּפֶסְטוֹסu/Fes/TOSand Festusבְּחֶפְצוֹbe/chef/TSOin his wishלְהַרְאוֹתle/har/OTto showחֶסֶדCHE/seda favorאֶל־הַיְּהוּדִיםel-Hay/ye/hu/DIMto the Jewsוַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand answeredאֶת־פּוֹלוֹסet-Po/LOSPaulוַיֹּאמַרvay/yo/MARand saidהֲתַחְפֹּץha/tach/POTSdo you wishלַעֲלוֹתla/a/LOTgo upיְרוּשָׁלַיִםYe/ru/sha/LA/yimto Jerusalemלְהִשָּׁפֵטle/hish/sha/FETto be judgedעַל־אֵלֶּהal-EL/leof these thingsלְפָנַיle/fa/NAYbefore meשָׁמָּה׃SHAM/mathere

   But Festus, willing to do the Jews a pleasure, answered Paul, and said, Wilt thou go up to Jerusalem, and there be judged of these things before me?

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidפּוֹלוֹסPo/LOSPaulלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeכִּסֵּאkis/SEthe seat ofמִשְׁפַּטmish/PATjudgment ofקֵיסָרKe/SARCaesarאֲנִיa/NIIעֹמֵדo/MEDstandוְשָׁםve/SHAMand thereאֶהְיֶהeh/YEI should beנִדּוֹןnid/DONjudgedלֹאlonoהֲרֵעֹתִיha/re/O/tihave I wrongedלַיְּהוּדִיםlay/Ye/hu/DIMto the Jewsכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasיָדַעְתָּya/DA/tayou knowהֵיטֵבhe/TEVwellגַּם־אָתָּה׃gam-AT/tayou also

    Then said Paul, I stand at Cæsar's judgment seat, where I ought to be judged: to the Jews have I done no wrong, as thou very well knowest.

    אִם־הֲרֵעֹתִיim-ha/re/O/tiif I have done wrongוְיֶשׁ־בִּיve/YESH-biand there is in meדְּבַרde/VARa matter ofמִשְׁפַּט־מָוֶתmish/PAT-MA/veta sentence of deathבַּל־אֶחְשֹׂךְbal-ech/SOKHI will not withholdנַפְשִׁיnaf/SHImy soulמִמָּוֶתmim/MA/vetfrom deathוְאִם־אֵין־בִּיve/IM-en-biand if there is not in meדָבָרda/VARa thingמִכֹּלmik/KOLof allאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatהֵםhemtheyעֹנִיםo/NIMtestifyבִּיbiagainst meאִישׁisha manלֹאlonoיוּכַלyu/KHALcanלְהַסְגִּירֵנִיle/has/gi/re/NIhand me overאֶל־יָדָםel-ya/DAMinto their handאֶת־קֵיסַרet-Ke/SARCaesarאֲנִיa/NIIקוֹרֵאko/REcall onלְדִינִי׃le/di/NIfor my case

    For if I be an offender, or have committed any thing worthy of death, I refuse not to die: but if there be none of these things whereof these accuse me, no man may deliver me unto them. I appeal unto Cæsar.

    וַיִּוָּעַץvay/yiv/va/ATSand conferredפֶּסְטוֹסPes/TOSFestusעִם־יוֹעֲצָיוim-yo/a/TSAYVwith his counselorsוַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand answeredאֹתוֹo/TOhimלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingאֶת־קֵיסַרet-Ke/SARCaesarקָרָאתָka/RA/tahave you appealedאֶל־קֵיסַרel-Ke/SARto Caesarתֵּלֵךְ׃te/LEKHyou will go

    Then Festus, when he had conferred with the council, answered, Hast thou appealed unto Cæsar? unto Cæsar shalt thou go.

13. 13

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passמִקֵּץmik/KETSat the end ofיָמִיםya/MIMdaysוַיֵּרְדוּvay/yer/DUand came downאַגְרִפַּסAg/rip/PASAgrippaהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוּבֶרְנִיקָהu/Ver/ni/KAand Berniceאֶל־קֵיסַרְיָהel-Ke/sar/YAto Caesareaלִשְׁאֹלlish/OLto askלְפֶסְטוֹסle/Fes/TOSafter Festusלְשָׁלוֹם׃le/sha/LOMfor peace

    And after certain days king Agrippa and Bernice came unto Cæsarea to salute Festus.

14. 14

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכִּי־אָרְכוּki-a/re/KHUwhen were longלָהֶםla/HEMfor themהַיָּמִיםhay/ya/MIMthe daysשָׁםshamthereוַיְסַפֵּרvay/sap/PERand recountedפֶּסְטוֹסPes/TOSFestusלַמֶּלֶךְlam/ME/lekhto the kingאֶת־רִיבet-rivthe case ofפּוֹלוֹסPo/LOSPaulלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdאִישׁisha manאָסוּרa/SURboundבַּמָּקוֹםbam/ma/KOMin the placeהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhomפִּילִיכַסPi/li/KHASFelixהִשְׁאִירוֹhish/i/ROleft himאַחֲרָיו׃a/cha/RAYVbehind him

    And when they had been there many days, Festus declared Paul's cause unto the king, saying, There is a certain man left in bonds by Felix:

15. 15

    וּבִהְיוֹתִיu/vih/yo/TIand when I wasבִירוּשָׁלַיִםVi/ru/sha/LA/yimin Jerusalemדִּבְּרוּdib/be/RUspokeאֵלַיe/LAYto meרָאשֵׁיra/SHEthe chiefs ofהַכֹּהֲנִיםhak/ko/ha/NIMthe priestsוְזִקְנֵיve/zik/NEand the elders ofהַיְּהוּדִיםhay/Ye/hu/DIMthe Jewsעַל־אֹדוֹתָיוal-o/do/TAYVabout himוַיְבַקְשׁוּvay/vak/SHUand askedמִמֶּנִּיmim/MEN/niof meלְהַרְשִׁיעוֹ׃le/har/shi/Oto condemn him

    About whom, when I was at Jerusalem, the chief priests and the elders of the Jews informed me, desiring to have judgment against him.

16. 16

    וָאֹמַרva/o/MARand I saidאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themכִּיkithatאֵיןenit is notדֶּרֶךְDE/rekhthe way ofהָרוֹמִיִּיםha/Ro/miy/YIMthe Romansלְהַסְגִּירle/has/GIRto hand overאִישׁisha manלַמָּוֶתlam/MA/vetto deathבְּטֶרֶםbe/TE/rembefore thatיַעֲמֹדya/a/MODstandsפָּנִיםpa/NIMfaceאֶל־פָּנִיםel-pa/NIMto faceעִםimwithשֹׂטְנָיוsot/NAYVhis accusersוְנִתַּן־לוֹve/nit/TAN-loand is given himמָקוֹםma/KOMa placeלְהִצְטַדֵּקle/hits/tad/DEKto defend himselfמִן־הַשִּׂטְנָה׃min-has/sit/NAfrom the accusation

    To whom I answered, It is not the manner of the Romans to deliver any man to die, before that he which is accused have the accusers face to face, and have licence to answer for himself concerning the crime laid against him.

17. 17

    וְלָכֵןve/la/KHENand thereforeכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenבָּאוּBA/uthey cameהֵנָּהHEN/nahereחַשְׁתִּיchash/TII hurriedוְלֹאve/LOand notהִתְמַהְמָהְתִּיhit/mah/MAH/tidid I delayכִּיkiforמִמׇּחֳרַתmim/mo/cho/RATon the morrow ofהַיּוֹםhay/YOMthe dayיָשַׁבְתִּיya/SHAV/tiI satעַל־כִּסֵּאal-kis/SEon the seat ofהַמִּשְׁפָּטham/mish/PATthe judgmentוָאֲצַוֶּהva/a/tsav/VEand I commandedלְהָבִיאle/ha/VIto bringאֶת־הָאִישׁ׃et-ha/ISHthe man

    Therefore, when they were come hither, without any delay on the morrow I sat on the judgment seat, and commanded the man to be brought forth.

18. 18

    וַיַּעַמְדוּvay/ya/am/DUand stood upשֹׂטְנָיוsot/NAYVhis accusersוְלֹא־הִגִּידוּve/LO-hig/GI/duand they did not tellעָלָיוa/LAYVagainst himדָּבָרda/VARa thingרָעraevilכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasחָשַׁבְתִּי׃cha/SHAV/tiI supposed

    Against whom when the accusers stood up, they brought none accusation of such things as I supposed:

19. 19

    וְרַקve/RAKand onlyהָיוּha/YUwereלָהֶםla/HEMto themדִּבְרֵיdiv/REmatters ofרִיבֹתri/VOTdisputesעָלָיוa/LAYVagainst himבְּעִנְיַןbe/in/YANin the matter ofעֲבוֹדַתa/vo/DATthe worship ofאֱלֹהֵיהֶםe/lo/he/HEMtheir Godוְעַל־מֵתve/AL-metand about a dead manאֶחָדe/CHADoneיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusשְׁמוֹshe/MOhis nameאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhomאָמַרa/MARsaidעָלָיוa/LAYVof himפּוֹלוֹסPo/LOSPaulכִּיkithatהוּאhuheחָי׃chayis alive

    But had certain questions against him of their own superstition, and of one Jesus, which was dead, whom Paul affirmed to be alive.

20. 20

    וַיִּפָּלֵאvay/yip/pa/LEand was too hardמִמֶּנִּיmim/MEN/nifor meהַדָּבָרhad/da/VARthe matterהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisלַמִּשְׁפָּטlam/mish/PATfor the judgmentוָאֹמַרva/o/MARand I saidהֶחָפֵץhe/cha/FETSdo wishאַתָּהat/TAyouלָלֶכֶתla/LE/khetgoיְרוּשָׁלַיִםYe/ru/sha/LA/yimto Jerusalemוּלְהִשָּׁפֵטu/le/hish/sha/FETand be judgedשָׁםshamthereעַל־אֵלֶּה׃al-EL/leconcerning these

    And because I doubted of such manner of questions, I asked him whether he would go to Jerusalem, and there be judged of these matters.

21. 21

    וַיִּשְׁאַלvay/yish/ALand askedפּוֹלוֹסPo/LOSPaulלְהַנִּיחוֹle/han/ni/CHOto be leftבַמִּשְׁמָרvam/mish/MARin custodyעַד־צֵאתad-tsetuntil goes outמִשְׁפָּטוֹmish/pa/TOhis judgmentמִלִּפְנֵיmil/lif/NEfrom beforeאֲגוּסְטוֹסA/gus/TOSAugustusוָאֲצַוֶּהva/a/tsav/VEI commandedלְשׇׁמְרוֹle/shom/ROto guard himעַד־אֲשֶׁרad-a/SHERtillאֶשְׁלַחesh/LACHI sendאֹתוֹo/TOhimאֶל־קֵיסָר׃el-Ke/SARto Caesar

    But when Paul had appealed to be reserved unto the hearing of Augustus, I commanded him to be kept till I might send him to Cæsar.

22. 22

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאַגְרִפַּסAg/rip/PASAgrippaאֶל־פֶּסְטוֹסel-Pes/TOSto Festusגַּם־אֲנִיgam-a/NII alsoחָפֵץcha/FETSwishלִשְׁמֹעַlish/MO/ato hearאֶת־הָאִישׁet-ha/ISHthe manוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidמָחָרma/CHARtomorrowתִּשְׁמָעֶנּוּ׃tish/ma/en/NUyou will hear him

    Then Agrippa said unto Festus, I would also hear the man myself. To morrow, said he, thou shalt hear him.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passמִמׇּחֳרָתmim/mo/cho/RATon the next dayכְּבוֹאke/VOwhen cameאַגְרִפַּסAg/rip/PASAgrippaוּבֶרְנִיקָהu/Ver/ni/KAand Berniceבְּהוֹדbe/HODwith splendorגָּדוֹלga/DOLgreatוַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uand they cameאֶל־אֻלָםel-u/LAMinto the hall ofהַמִּשְׁמַעַתham/mish/MA/atthe hearingהֵמָּהHEM/matheyוְשָׂרֵיve/sa/REand the captains ofהָאֶלֶףha/E/lefthe thousandוּנְגִידֵיu/ne/gi/DEand the leaders ofהָעִירha/IRthe cityוַיְצַוvay/TSAVand commandedפֶּסְטוֹסPes/TOSFestusוַיָּבִיאוּvay/ya/VI/uand they broughtאֶת־פּוֹלוֹס׃et-Po/LOSPaul

    And on the morrow, when Agrippa was come, and Bernice, with great pomp, and was entered into the place of hearing, with the chief captains, and principal men of the city, at Festus' commandment Paul was brought forth.

    And Festus said, King Agrippa, and all men which are here present with us, ye see this man, about whom all the multitude of the Jews have dealt with me, both at Jerusalem, and also here, crying that he ought not to live any longer.

25. 25

    וַאֲנִיva/a/NIand Iכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenהִכַּרְתִּיhik/kar/TII recognizedבוֹvoin himכִּי־לֹאki-lothat nothingעָשָׂהa/SAhe had committedדָבָרda/VARa thingאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichבּוֹboin himמִשְׁפַּט־מָוֶתmish/PAT-MA/veta sentence of deathוְגַם־הוּאve/GAM-huand also heקָרָאka/RAcalled onאֶת־אֲגוּסְטוֹסet-A/gus/TOSAugustusלְדִינוֹle/di/NOfor his caseיָעַצְתִּיya/ATS/tiI decidedלִשְׁלֹחַlish/LO/achto sendאֹתוֹo/TOhimשָׁמָּה׃SHAM/mathere

    But when I found that he had committed nothing worthy of death, and that he himself hath appealed to Augustus, I have determined to send him.

26. 26

    אַךְakhbutאֵין־לִיen-liI have noלִכְתֹּבlikh/TOVto writeעָלָיוa/LAYVabout himדָּבָרda/VARa thingנָכוֹןna/KHONcertainלַאדֹנִיla/do/NIto my lordוּבַעֲבוּרu/va/a/VURand for the sake ofזֹאתzotfor thisהֲבִיאֹתִיוha/vi/o/TIVI have brought himלִפְנֵיכֶםlif/ne/KHEMbefore youוּבְיוֹתֵרu/ve/yo/TERand especiallyלְפָנֶיךָle/fa/NE/khabefore youהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhO kingאַגְרִפַּסAg/rip/PASAgrippaלְמַעַןle/MA/anso thatיֵחָקֵרye/cha/KERhe may be examinedוְיָדַעְתִּיve/ya/DA/tiand I will knowמָהmawhatאֶכְתֹּב׃ekh/TOVI will write

    Of whom I have no certain thing to write unto my lord. Wherefore I have brought him forth before you, and specially before thee, O king Agrippa, that, after examination had, I might have somewhat to write.

27. 27

    כִּיkiforלֹא־יִתָּכֵןlo-yit/ta/KHENit is not rightבְּעֵינַיbe/e/NAYin my eyesלִשְׁלוֹחַlish/LO/achto sendאַסִּירas/SIRa prisonerוְלֹאve/LOand notאוֹדִיעַo/DI/amake knownגַּםgamalsoאֶת־עֲלִילֹתet-a/li/LOTthe charges ofהַדְּבָרִיםhad/de/va/RIMthe mattersאֲשֶׁר־שָׂמוּa/SHER-SA/muthat they laidלוֹ׃loon him

    For it seemeth to me unreasonable to send a prisoner, and not withal to signify the crimes laid against him.
