1. 1

   וַיְהִיAnd-it-came-to-passאַחֲרֵיafterחֲמֵשֶׁתfiveיָמִיםdaysוַיֵּרֶדdescendedחֲנַנְיָהAnaniasהַכֹּהֵןthe-priestהַגָּדוֹלhighוְאִתּוֹwith-himהַזְּקֵנִיםthe-elders,וְאִישׁand-a-manדְּבָרִיםan-oratorאֶחָדcertainטַרְטֻלּוֹסTertullusשְׁמוֹnamed,וַיּוֹדִיעוּwho-informedאֶת־הַהֶגְמוֹןthe-governorאֶת־דְּבַרthe-matter-ofרִיבָםtheir-contentionעִם־פּוֹלוֹס׃against-Paul.

   And after five days Ananias the high priest descended with the elders, and with a certain orator named Tertullus, who informed the governor against Paul.

   וַיְהִיAnd-it-came-to-passכַּאֲשֶׁרwhenקָרְאוּ־לוֹhe-was-called-forth,וַיָּחֶלbeganטַרְטֻלּוֹסTertullusלְחַיֵּבto-accuseאֹתוֹhim,וַיֹּאמַרsaying,עַל־יָדְךָSeeing-that-by-youיָשַׁבְנוּwe-enjoyבְּשָׁלוֹםquietnessרָבgreat,וְתַקָּנוֹתand-that-worthy-deedsרַבּוֹתveryנַעֲשׂוּare-doneלָעָםunto-nationהַזֶּהthisבְּהַשְׁגָּחָתֶךָ׃by-your-providence,

   And when he was called forth, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, Seeing that by thee we enjoy great quietness, and that very worthy deeds are done unto this nation by thy providence,

   פִילִיכַסFelix,הָאַדִּירmost-nobleעַל־אֵלֶּהitאֲנַחְנוּWeמוֹדִיםacceptלְךָwith-all-thankfulness-to-youבְּכׇל־פָּנִיםalways,וּבְכׇל־מָקוֹם׃and-in-all-places,

   We accept it always, and in all places, most noble Felix, with all thankfulness.

4. 4

   וְלֹאNotwithstanding,-that-notאוֹגִיעֲךָI-be-tedious-unto-youהַרְבֵּהfurtherעַל־כֵּןwhereforeיִהְיוּshall-beדְבָרֵינוּour-wordsמְעַטִּיםfew,וְאֶתְחַנֵּןand-I-prayאֵלֶיךָyouשֶׁתִּשְׁמָעֵנוּthat-you-would-hear-usכְּחֶמְלָתֶךָ׃of-your-clemency.

   Notwithstanding, that I be not further tedious unto thee, I pray thee that thou wouldest hear us of thy clemency a few words.

   כִּיForמָצָאנוּwe-have-foundאֶת־הָאִישׁmanהַזֶּהthisכְּקֶטֶבa-pestilent-fellow,וּמְגָרֶהand-a-mover-ofמִדְיָנִיםseditionבֵּיןamongכׇּל־הַיְּהוּדִיםall-the-Jewsעַל־פְּנֵיthroughoutתֵבֵלthe-world,וְהוּאand-he-isרֹאשׁa-ringleader-ofכַּתthe-sect-ofהַנָּצְרִים׃the-Nazarenes:

   For we have found this man a pestilent fellow, and a mover of sedition among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes:

6. 6

   וְהוּאWhoגַם־נִסָּהalso-hath-gone-aboutלְחַלֵּלto-profaneאֶת־הַמִּקְדָּשׁthe-temple:וַנִּתְפֹּשׂwhom-we-took,אוֹתוֹhimוַנַּחְפֹּץand-wouldלְשָׁפְטוֹhave-judged-himעַל־פִּיaccording-toתוֹרָתֵנוּ׃our-law.

   Who also hath gone about to profane the temple: whom we took, and would have judged according to our law.

7. 7

   וַיָּבֹאBut-cameעָלֵינוּupon-us,לוּסִיאַסLysiasשַׂר־הָאֶלֶףthe-chief-captainבְּרׇב־כֹּחַwith-great-violenceוַיַּחְטְפֵהוּand-took-him-awayמִיָּדֵינוּ׃out-of-our-hands,

   But the chief captain Lysias came upon us, and with great violence took him away out of our hands,

8. 8

   וַיְצַוCommandingאֶת־שׂטְנָיוhis-accusersאֲשֶׁרthatיָבֹאוּthey-comeלְפָנֶיךָunto-you:וְאַתָּהand-youכִּי־תַּחֲקֹרby-examining-ofאֹתוֹwhomתּוּכַלthyself-mayestלָדַעַתtake-knowledgeמִפִּיהוּfrom-his-mouthאֵת־כׇּל־הַדְּבָרִיםof-all-thingsהָאֵלֶּהthese,אֲשֶׁרwhereofעֲלֵיהֶםof-themאֲנַחְנוּweמְחַיְּבִיםaccuseאֹתוֹ׃him.

   Commanding his accusers to come unto thee: by examining of whom thyself mayest take knowledge of all these things, whereof we accuse him.

9. 9

   וַיְמַלְאוּAnd-assented,הַיְּהוּדִיםthe-Jews-alsoאֶת־דְּבָרָיוto-his-wordsלֵאמֹרsayingכִּי־כֵןthat-soהוּא׃these-things-were.

   And the Jews also assented, saying that these things were so.

10. 10

    וַיִּרְמֹזThen-after-had-beckonedהַהֶגְמוֹןthe-governorלְפוֹלוֹסunto-Paulלְדַבֵּרto-speak,וַיַּעַןhe-answeredוַיֹּאמַרand-said,יַעַןForasmuchאֲשֶׁרasיָדַעְתִּיI-knowכִּיthatזֶהofכַּמֶהmanyשָׁנִיםyearsשׁוֹפֵטa-judgeאַתָּהyou-have-beenלָעָםunto-nationהַזֶּהthis,הִנְנִיI-doמִצְטַדֵּקanswer-for-myselfעַל־עִנְיָנַיconcerning-mine-affairsוְלִבִּיand-my-heartבָּטוּחַ׃the-more-cheerfully:

    Then Paul, after that the governor had beckoned unto him to speak, answered, Forasmuch as I know that thou hast been of many years a judge unto this nation, I do the more cheerfully answer for myself:

11. 11

    אַתָּהyouתוּכַלmayestלָדַעַתBecause-that-understand,אֲשֶׁרthatלֹאnotעָבְרוּthere-are-passedיוֹתֵרyet-butמִשְּׁנֵיםmore-than-two-andעָשָׂרtenיוֹםdaysמֵעֵתsinceעֲלוֹתִיI-went-upיְרוּשָׁלַיִםto-Jerusalemלְהִשְׁתַּחֲוֹת׃for-to-worship.

    Because that thou mayest understand, that there are yet but twelve days since I went up to Jerusalem for to worship.

12. 12

    וְלֹאAnd-neitherבַמִּקְדָּשׁin-the-templeמְצָאוּנִיthey-found-meמִתְוַכֵּחַdisputingעִם־אִישׁwith-any-man,אוֹ־מְעוֹרֵרneither-raising-upמְהוּמָהa-tumultבָּעָםof-the-people,וְלֹאneitherבְּבָתֵּיin-the-houses-ofכְנֵסִיּוֹתthe-synagogues,וְלֹאnorבָעִיר׃in-the-city:

    And they neither found me in the temple disputing with any man, neither raising up the people, neither in the synagogues, nor in the city:

13. 13

    גַּםalsoאֵיןNeither-haveלָהֶםtheyרְאָיָהcan-proveלְמַה־שֶּׁמְּחַיְּבִיםthe-things-whereof-they-now-accuseאֹתִי׃me.

    Neither can they prove the things whereof they now accuse me.

14. 14

    אֲבָלButאֶת־זֹאתthisמוֹדֶהconfessאֲנִיIלְפָנֶיךָunto-you,כִּיthatבַּדֶּרֶךְafter-the-wayהַהִיאthatאֲשֶׁרwhichיִקְרָאוּהָthey-call-itבְּשֵׁםby-the-name-ofכַּתheresy,בָּהּsoאֲנִיIעֹבֵדworshipאֶת־אֱלֹהֵיthe-God-ofאֲבוֹתֵינוּmy-fathers,בְּהַאֲמִינִיbelievingבְּכׇל־הַכָּתוּבall-things-which-are-writtenבַּתּוֹרָהin-the-lawוּבַנְּבִיאִים׃and-in-the-prophets:

    But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets:

15. 15

    וַאֲקַוֶּהAnd-have-hopeלֵאלֹהִיםtoward-God,כִּיthatעֲתִידָהthere-shallלִהְיוֹתbeתְּחִיַּתa-resurrection-ofהַמֵּתִיםthe-dead,לַצַּדִּיקִיםboth-of-the-justוְלָרְשָׁעִיםand-unjust,אֲשֶׁרwhichגַּם־הֵםthey-themselves-alsoיְחַכּוּ־לָהּ׃allow-it.

    And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.

16. 16

    לָכֵןAnd-hereinאֲנִיdo-Iעָמֵלexercise-myself,לִהְיוֹתto-haveתְּמִים־לֵבa-conscience-void-of-offenseעִםtowardאֱלֹהִיםGod,וְאָדָםand-toward-menתָּמִיד׃always.

    And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men.

17. 17

    וּמִקֵּץNow-afterשָׁנִיםyearsרַבּוֹתmanyבָּאתִיI-cameלְהָבִיאto-bringנְדָבוֹתalmsלְעַמִּיto-my-nation,וּלְהַקְרִיבand-to-offerקָרְבָּנוֹת׃offerings.

    Now after many years I came to bring alms to my nation, and offerings.

18. 18

    וּבָאֵלֶּהWhereuponמְצָאוּנִיfound-meאֲנָשִׁיםcertainיְהוּדִיםJewsמֵאַסְיָאfrom-AsiaאַחֲרֵיafterהִטַּהֲרִיI-was-purifiedבַּמִּקְדָּשׁin-the-temple,לֹאneitherבַהֲמוֹן־עָםwith-multitude,וְלֹאnorבִּמְהוּמָה׃with-tumult.

    Whereupon certain Jews from Asia found me purified in the temple, neither with multitude, nor with tumult.

19. 19

    אֲשֶׁרWhoעֲלֵיהֶםoughtהָיָהto-have-beenלַעֲמָד־פֹּהhereלְפָנֶיךָbefore-you,וְלַעֲנוֹתand-object,בִּיagainst-meאִם־יֵשׁif-they-hadלָהֶםto-themדְּבַרa-matter-ofרִיבoughtעָלָי׃against-me.

    Who ought to have been here before thee, and object, if they had ought against me.

20. 20

    אוֹOr-elseאֵלֶּהtheseבְעַצְמָםsame-hereיַגִּידוּ־נָאlet-say,מַה־מָּצְאוּif-they-have-foundבִיin-me,עָוֶלany-evil-doingבְּעׇמְדִיwhile-I-stoodלִפְנֵיbeforeסַנְהֶדְרִין׃the-council,

    Or else let these same here say, if they have found any evil doing in me, while I stood before the council,

21. 21

    בִּלְתִּיExceptאִם־הַדָּבָרit-be-for-voiceהָאֶחָדoneהַזֶּהthis,אֲשֶׁרthatקָרָאתִיI-criedבְּעׇמְדִיstandingבְתוֹכָםamong-them,כִּיTouchingעַל־תְּחִיַּתthe-resurrection-ofהַמֵּתִיםthe-deadאֲנִיIנִדּוֹןam-called-in-questionהַיּוֹםthis-dayלִפְנֵיכֶם׃by-you.

    Except it be for this one voice, that I cried standing among them, Touching the resurrection of the dead I am called in question by you this day.

22. 22

    וַיְהִיAnd-it-came-to-passכִּשְׁמֹעַwhen-heardפִילִיכַסFelixאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםthingsהָאֵלֶּהthese,וַיַּעֲבֵרhe-deferredאֶת־דִּינָםthemלְעֵתto-a-timeאַחֶרֶתother,כִּיforעִנְיְנֵיthe-matters-ofהַדֶּרֶךְwayהַזֹּאתthatנוֹדְעוּwere-knownלוֹto-himהֵיטֵבmore-perfectly,וַיֹּאמֶרand-said,בְּרֶדֶתWhen-shall-come-downאֵלַיto-meלוּסִיאַסLysiasשַׂרthe-captainהָאֶלֶףchief,אֶשְׁפֹּטI-will-knowמִשְׁפַּטְכֶם׃the-uttermost-of-your-matter.

    And when Felix heard these things, having more perfect knowledge of that way, he deferred them, and said, When Lysias the chief captain shall come down, I will know the uttermost of your matter.

23. 23

    וַיְצַוAnd-he-commandedאֶת־שַׂרa-centurion-ofהַמֵּאָהthe-hundredלָשׂוּםto-keepאֶת־פּוֹלוֹסPaulבַּמִּשְׁמָרin-ward,וְלָתֵת־לוֹand-to-let-him-haveרְוָחָהliberty,וּלְבִלְתִּיand-that-he-should-notמְנֹעַforbidאִישׁanyמִמְּיֻדָּעָיוof-his-acquaintanceמִשָּׁרֵתto-ministerאוֹתוֹto-himוּמִבּוֹאor-comeאֵלָיו׃unto-him.

    And he commanded a centurion to keep Paul, and to let him have liberty, and that he should forbid none of his acquaintance to minister or come unto him.

24. 24

    וְאַחֲרֵיAnd-afterיָמִיםdays,אֲחָדִיםcertainבָּאcameפִילִיכַסwhen-Felixהוּאheוּדְרוּסִלָּהwith-Drusillaאִשְׁתּוֹhis-wife,וְהִיאwhich-wasיְהוּדִיתa-Jewess,וַיִּשְׁלַחhe-sentלִקְרֹאto-callלְפוֹלוֹסfor-Paul,וַיִּשְׁמַעand-heardאֵלָיוhimעַל־דְּבַרconcerningהָאֱמוּנָהthe-faithבַּמָּשִׁיחַ׃in-Christ.

    And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, which was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ.

25. 25

    וַיְהִיAnd-it-came-to-passכְּדַבְּרוֹas-he-reasonedעַל־הַצֶּדֶקof-righteousness,וְעַל־הַפְּרִישׁוּתand-temperance,וְעַל־הַדִּיןand-judgmentהֶעָתִידwhich-isלָבוֹאto-come,וַיֶּחֶרַדtrembled,פִילִיכַסFelixוַיַּעַןand-answeredוַיֹּאמַרand-said,לֶךְ־נָאGo-your-wayעַתָּהfor-this-time;וְלִכְשֶׁאֶפְנֶהwhen-I-have-a-convenient-season,אָשׁוּבI-will-againלִקְרֹא־לָךְ׃call-for-you.

    And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.

26. 26

    וְהוּאHeמְקַוֶּהhoped-alsoלְפוֹלוֹסof-Paulכִּיthatיִתֶּן־לוֹshould-have-been-given-himשֹׁחַדmoney,לְמַעַןthatיַתִּירֵהוּhe-might-loose-him:וּבַעֲבוּרwhereforeזֶהfor-thisקָרָאhe-sentלוֹfor-himפְּעָמִיםthe-oftener,הַרְבֵּהmany-timesוַיְדַבֵּרand-communedעִמּוֹ׃with-him.

    He hoped also that money should have been given him of Paul, that he might loose him: wherefore he sent for him the oftener, and communed with him.

27. 27

    וַיְהִיBut-it-came-to-passמִקֵּץafterשְׁנָתַיִםtwo-yearsיָמִיםof-daysוַיָּקׇםcameפָּרְקִיּוֹסPorciusפֶּסְטוֹסFestusתַּחַתinto-the-room-ofפִילִיכַסFelix:וּפִילִיכַסand-Felix,חָפֵץwillingלְהַרְאוֹתto-shewחֶסֶדa-pleasure,אֶל־הַיְּהוּדִיםthe-Jewsוְלֹאnotהִתִּירloosedאֶת־פּוֹלוֹסPaulמִבֵּיתfrom-the-house-ofהָאֲסוּרִים׃the-prison,-left-him-bound.

    But after two years Porcius Festus came into Felix' room: and Felix, willing to shew the Jews a pleasure, left Paul bound.
