   אֲנָשִׁיםa/na/SHIMmenאַחִיםa/CHIMbrothersוְאָבוֹתve/a/VOTand fathersשִׁמְעוּ־נָאshim/U-nahear nowוַאֲדַבְּרָהva/a/dab/be/RAand I will speakוְאֶצְטַדֵּקve/ets/tad/DEKand I will defend myselfלִפְנֵיכֶם׃lif/ne/KHEMbefore you

   Men, brethren, and fathers, hear ye my defence which I make now unto you.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכְּשׇׁמְעָםke/shom/AMwhen they heardכִּיkithatהוּאhuheמְדַבֵּרme/dab/BERwas speakingאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themבְּלָשׁוֹןbe/la/SHONin the languageעִבְרִיתIv/RITHebrewוַיּוֹסִיפוּvay/yo/SI/fuand they increasedעוֹדodmoreלַחֲשׁוֹתla/cha/SHOTto be silentוַיֹּאמַר׃vay/yo/MARand said

   (And when they heard that he spake in the Hebrew tongue to them, they kept the more silence: and he saith,)

   אִישׁ־יְהוּדִיish-Ye/hu/DIa Jewish manאָנֹכִיa/no/KHIam IטַרְסוֹסTar/SOSTarsusאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthat isבְּקִילִיקְיָאbe/Ki/li/ke/YAin Ciliciaמוֹלַדְתִּיmo/lad/TIis my birthplaceוּבָעִירu/va/IRand in the cityהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisגָּדַלְתִּיga/dal/TII grew upלְרַגְלֵיle/rag/LEat the feet ofגַמְלִיאֵלGam/li/ELGamalielוְלֻמַּדְתִּיve/lum/mad/TIand I was taughtתּוֹרַתto/RATthe law ofהָאָבוֹתha/a/VOTthe fathersכְּכׇל־מִשְׁפָּטֶיהָke/KHOL-mish/pa/te/HAaccording to all its ordinancesוָאֱהִיva/e/HIand wasמְקַנֵּאme/kan/NEzealousלֵאלֹהִיםle/lo/HIMfor Godכְּמוֹכֶםke/mo/KHEMas youכֻּלְּכֶםkul/le/KHEMall of youהַיּוֹם׃hay/YOMtoday

   I am verily a man which am a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, and taught according to the perfect manner of the law of the fathers, and was zealous toward God, as ye all are this day.

   וָאֲרַדֵּףva/a/rad/DEFand I persecutedאֶת־אֹחֲזֵיet-o/cha/ZEthose holdingהַדֶּרֶךְhad/DE/rekhthe wayהַהִיאha/HIthatעַד־מָוֶתad-MA/vetto deathוָאֱהִיva/e/HIand I wasאֹסֵרo/SERbindingוּמַסְגִּירu/mas/GIRand handing overלַכֶּלֶאlak/KE/leto prisonאֲנָשִׁיםa/na/SHIMmenוְנָשִׁים׃ve/na/SHIMand women

   And I persecuted this way unto the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women.

   כַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasגַּם־יָעִידgam-ya/IDalso will testifyעָלַיa/LAYabout meהַכֹּהֵןhak/ko/HENthe priestהַגָּדוֹלhag/ga/DOLhighוְכׇל־בֵּיתve/KHOL-betand all the house ofהַזְּקֵנִיםhaz/ze/ke/NIMthe eldersאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatמֵהֶםme/HEMfrom themקִבַּלְתִּיkib/bal/TII receivedמִכְתָּבִיםmikh/ta/VIMlettersוָאֵלֵךְva/e/LEKHand wentאֶל־הָאַחִיםel-ha/a/CHIMto the brothersלְדַמֶּשֶׂקle/Dam/ME/sekto Damascusלֶאֱסֹרle/e/SORto bindאַף־אֶת־הַנִּמְצְאִיםaf-et-han/nim/tse/IMalso those who were foundשָׁמָּהSHAM/mathereוְלַהֲבִיאָםve/la/ha/vi/AMto bring themיְרוּשָׁלַיִםYe/ru/sha/LA/yimto Jerusalemלְמַעַןle/MA/anso thatיִוָּסֵרוּ׃yiv/va/se/RUthey would be punished

   As also the high priest doth bear me witness, and all the estate of the elders: from whom also I received letters unto the brethren, and went to Damascus, to bring them which were there bound unto Jerusalem, for to be punished.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכְּעֵתke/ETabout the time ofצׇהֳרַיִםtso/ho/RA/yimnoonוְאָנֹכִיve/a/no/KHIand Iהֹלֵךְho/LEKHwas goingוְקָרֵבve/ka/REVand nearלְדַמָּשֶׂקle/Dam/MA/sekto Damascusוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdאוֹרora lightגָּדוֹלga/DOLgreatמִן־הַשָּׁמַיִםmin-hash/sha/MA/yimfrom heavenנָגַהּna/GAshoneעָלַיa/LAYon meמִסָּבִיב׃mis/sa/VIVall around

   And it came to pass, that, as I made my journey, and was come nigh unto Damascus about noon, suddenly there shone from heaven a great light round about me.

   וָאֶפֹּלva/ep/POLand I fellאָרְצָהAR/tsato the groundוָאֶשְׁמַעva/esh/MAand I heardקוֹלkola voiceמִדַּבֵּרmid/dab/BERspeakingאֵלַיe/LAYto meלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingשָׁאוּלSha/ULSaulשָׁאוּלSha/ULSaulלָמָּהLAM/mawhyתִרְדְּפֵנִי׃tir/de/fe/NIdo you persecute me

   And I fell unto the ground, and heard a voice saying unto me, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?

   וָאַעַןva/A/anand I answeredוָאֹמַרva/o/MARand saidמִיmiwhoאַתָּהat/TAare youאֲדֹנִיa/do/NImy Lordוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand he saidאֵלַיe/LAYto meאֲנִיa/NII amיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusהַנָּצְרִיhan/Na/tse/RIof Nazarethאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhomאַתָּהat/TAyouרוֹדֵף׃ro/DEFpersecute

   And I answered, Who art thou, Lord? And he said unto me, I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom thou persecutest.

   וְהָאֲנָשִׁיםve/ha/a/na/SHIMand the menאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwho wereאִתִּיit/TIwith meרָאוּra/Usawאֶת־הָאוֹרet-ha/ORthe lightוַיִּירָאוּvay/yi/RA/uand were afraidוְאֶת־קוֹלve/ET-koland the voice ofהַמְדַבֵּרham/dab/BERthe one speakingאֵלַיe/LAYto meלֹאlonotשָׁמֵעוּ׃sha/ME/udid they hear

   And they that were with me saw indeed the light, and were afraid; but they heard not the voice of him that spake to me.

    וָאֹמַרva/o/MARand I saidמָה־אֶעֱשֶׂהma-e/e/SEwhat shall I doאֲדֹנִיa/do/NImy Lordוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵלַיe/LAYto meהָאָדוֹןha/a/DONthe Lordקוּםkumariseלֵךְlekhgoאֶל־דַּמֶּשֶׂקel-Dam/ME/sekto Damascusוְשָׁםve/SHAMand thereיֻגַּדyug/GADit will be toldלְךָle/KHAto youאֶת־כֹּלet-kolallאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatצֻוֵּיתָtsuv/ve/TAyou have been commandedלַעֲשׂוֹת׃la/a/SOTto do

    And I said, What shall I do, Lord? And the Lord said unto me, Arise, and go into Damascus; and there it shall be told thee of all things which are appointed for thee to do.

    וַאֲנִיva/a/NIand Iלֹא־יָכֹלְתִּיlo-ya/KHOL/ticould notלִרְאוֹתlir/OTseeמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEbecause ofזֹהַרZO/harthe brightness ofהָאוֹרha/ORthe lightהַהוּאha/HUthatוַיַּחֲזִיקוּvay/ya/cha/ZI/kuand took hold ofהָאֲנָשִׁיםha/a/na/SHIMthe menאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwho wereאִתִּיit/TIwith meבְּיָדִיbe/ya/DImy handוַיּוֹלִיכוּנִיvay/yo/li/khu/NIthey led meוָאָבֹאva/a/VOand I cameלְדַמָּשֶׂק׃le/Dam/MA/sekto Damascus

    And when I could not see for the glory of that light, being led by the hand of them that were with me, I came into Damascus.

    וְשָׁםve/SHAMand thereאִישׁisha manיְרֵאye/REfearingאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodכְּפִיke/FIaccording toהַתּוֹרָהhat/to/RAthe lawוּשְׁמוֹu/she/MOand his nameחֲנַנְיָהCha/nan/YAAnaniasאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoקָנָהka/NAhad gainedלוֹlofor himselfשֵׁםshema nameטוֹבtovgoodבְּקֶרֶבbe/KE/revamongכׇּל־הַיְּהוּדִיםkol-Hay/ye/hu/DIMall the Jewsהַיֹּשְׁבִיםhay/yosh/VIMwho dweltשָׁם׃shamthere

    And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, having a good report of all the Jews which dwelt there,

13. 13

    וַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand he cameאֵלַיe/LAYto meוַיַּעֲמֹדvay/ya/a/MODand stoodוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵלַיe/LAYto meשָׁאוּלSha/ULSaulאָחִיa/CHImy brotherפְּקַחpe/KACHopenעֵינֶיךָe/NE/khayour eyesוּבַשָּׁעָהu/vash/sha/Aand in the hourהַהִיאha/HIthatנִפְקְחוּnif/ke/CHUwere openedעֵינַיe/NAYmy eyesוָאֶרְאֵהוּ׃va/er/e/HUand I saw him

    Came unto me, and stood, and said unto me, Brother Saul, receive thy sight. And the same hour I looked up upon him.

14. 14

    וַיֹּאמַרvay/yo/MARand he saidאֱלֹהֵיe/lo/HEthe God ofאֲבוֹתֵינוּa/vo/TE/nuour fathersבָּחַרba/CHARhas chosenבְּךָbe/KHAyouלָדַעַתla/DA/atto knowאֶת־רְצוֹנוֹet-re/tso/NOHis willוְלִרְאוֹתve/lir/OTand to seeאֶת־הַצַּדִּיקet-Hats/tsad/DIKthe Righteous Oneוְלִשְׁמֹעַve/lish/MO/aand to hearקוֹלkolthe voice ofמִפִּיהוּ׃mip/PI/huhis mouth

    And he said, The God of our fathers hath chosen thee, that thou shouldest know his will, and see that Just One, and shouldest hear the voice of his mouth.

15. 15

    כִּיkiforתִהְיֶה־לּוֹtih/YE-loyou shall be hisלְעֵדle/EDa witnessעַל־הַדְּבָרִיםal-had/de/va/RIMof the thingsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatרָאִיתָra/I/tayou have seenוְשָׁמַעְתָּve/sha/ma/TAand have heardנֶגֶדNE/gedbeforeכׇּל־בְּנֵיkol-be/NEall the sons ofאָדָם׃a/DAMman

    For thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard.

16. 16

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowלָמָּהLAM/mawhyתִתְמַהְמֵהַּtit/mah/ME/ahdo you delayקוּםkumariseוְהִטָּבֵלve/hit/ta/VELand be baptizedוּרְחַץu/re/CHATSand washחַטֹּאתֶיךָchat/to/te/KHAyour sinsבְּקָרְאֲךָbe/ka/re/a/KHAas you callבְּשֵׁםbe/SHEMon the name ofהָאָדוֹן׃ha/a/DONthe Lord

    And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

17. 17

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passבְּשׁוּבִיbe/shu/VIwhen I returnedאֶל־יְרוּשָׁלַיִםel-Ye/ru/sha/LA/yimto Jerusalemוָאֶתְפַּלֵּלva/et/pal/LELand I prayedבַּמִּקְדָּשׁbam/mik/DASHin the templeוָאֵרָדַם׃va/e/ra/DAMand I fell into deep sleep

    And it came to pass, that, when I was come again to Jerusalem, even while I prayed in the temple, I was in a trance;

18. 18

    וָאֵרֶאva/E/reand I sawאוֹתוֹo/TOhimמְדַבֵּרme/dab/BERspeakingאֵלַיe/LAYto meחוּשָׁהCHU/shahurryצֵאtsego outבִמְהֵרָהvim/he/RAquicklyמִירוּשָׁלָיִםmI/ru/sha/LA/yimfrom Jerusalemכִּיkiforלֹא־יְקַבְּלוּlo-ye/kab/be/LUthey will not receiveאֶת־עֵדוּתְךָet-e/dut/KHAyour testimonyעָלָי׃a/LAYabout me

    And saw him saying unto me, Make haste, and get thee quickly out of Jerusalem: for they will not receive thy testimony concerning me.

19. 19

    וָאֹמַרva/o/MARand I saidאֲדֹנִיa/do/NImy Lordהֵםhemtheyיוֹדְעִיםyod/IMknowאֵת־אֲשֶׁר־הִשְׁלַכְתִּיet-a/SHER-hish/LAKH/tithat I threwאֶל־הַכֶּלֶאel-hak/KE/leinto prisonוְהִכֵּיתִיve/hik/ke/TIand I beatבְּכׇל־בָּתֵּיbe/KHOL-bat/TEin all the houses ofהַכְּנֶסֶתhak/ke/NE/setassemblyאֵת־הַמַּאֲמִינִיםet-ham/ma/a/mi/NIMthose who believedבָּךְ׃bakhin you

    And I said, Lord, they know that I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue them that believed on thee:

20. 20

    וּבְהִשָּׁפֵךְu/ve/hish/sha/FEKHand when was shedדַּם־אִסְטְפָנוֹסdam-Is/te/fa/NOSthe blood of Stephenעֵדֶךָe/de/KHAyour witnessאַף־אֲנִיaf-a/NII alsoעָמַדְתִּיa/MAD/tistoodשָׁםshamthereוַאֲנִיva/a/NIand Iחָפֵץcha/FETSapprovingבַּהֲרֵגָתוֹba/ha/re/ga/TOhis killingוְשׁוֹמֵרve/sho/MERand guardingאֶת־בִּגְדֵיet-big/DEthe garments ofהֹרְגָיו׃hor/GAYVhis killers

    And when the blood of thy martyr Stephen was shed, I also was standing by, and consenting unto his death, and kept the raiment of them that slew him.

21. 21

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand he saidאֵלַיe/LAYto meלֵךְlekhgoכִּיkiforאֲנִיa/NIIאֶלeltoהַגּוֹיִםhag/Go/YIMthe Gentilesעַד־לְמֵרָחוֹקad-le/me/ra/CHOKfar awayאֲשַׁלְּחֶךָּ׃a/shal/le/CHEK/kawill send you

    And he said unto me, Depart: for I will send thee far hence unto the Gentiles.

22. 22

    וַיִּשְׁמְעוּvay/yish/me/Uand they listenedאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himעַד־הַדָּבָרad-had/da/VARuntil the wordהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisוַיִּשְׂאוּvay/yis/Uand they lifted upאֶת־קוֹלָםet-ko/LAMtheir voicesוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidהָסֵרha/SERremoveאִישׁisha manכָּזֶהka/ZEsuchמֵעַלme/ALfrom onהָאֲדָמָהha/a/da/MAthe earthכִּיkiforלֹאlonotרָאוּיra/UYfittingלוֹlofor himלִחְיוֹת׃lich/YOTto live

    And they gave him audience unto this word, and then lifted up their voices, and said, Away with such a fellow from the earth: for it is not fit that he should live.

23. 23

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passבִּהְיוֹתָםbih/yo/TAMas they wereצֹעֲקִיםtso/a/KIMcrying outוּמַשְׁלִיכִיםu/mash/li/KHIMand throwingאֶת־בִּגְדֵיהֶםet-big/de/HEMtheir clothesמֵעֲלֵיהֶםme/a/le/HEMoff themוְזֹרְקִיםve/zor/KIMand tossingעָפָרa/FARdustהַשָּׁמָיְמָה׃hash/sha/MAY/matoward the sky

    And as they cried out, and cast off their clothes, and threw dust into the air,

24. 24

    וַיְצַוvay/TSAVand commandedשַׂרsarthe captain ofהָאֶלֶףha/E/lefthe thousandלְהוֹלִיכוֹle/ho/li/KHOto bring himאֶל־הַמְצָדel-ham/TSADinto the fortressוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלַחְקֹרlach/KORto examineאֹתוֹo/TOhimבַּשּׁוֹטִיםbash/sho/TIMwith whipsלְמַעַןle/MA/anso thatיֵדַעye/DAhe might knowמַדּוּעַmad/DU/awhyעָלָיוa/LAYVagainst himהַצְּעָקָהhats/tse/a/KAwas the outcryהַזֹּאת׃haz/ZOTthis

    The chief captain commanded him to be brought into the castle, and bade that he should be examined by scourging; that he might know wherefore they cried so against him.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenאָסְרוּa/se/RUthey boundאֹתוֹo/TOhimלְהַכּוֹתוֹle/hak/ko/TOto strike himבִרְצוּעוֹתvir/tsu/OTwith strapsוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand he saidאֶל־שַׂרel-sarto the captain ofהַמֵּאָהham/me/Athe hundredהָעֹמֵדha/o/MEDwho stoodעָלָיוa/LAYVby himהֲמֻתָּרha/mut/TARis it lawfulלָכֶםla/KHEMfor youלְהַכּוֹתle/hak/KOTto strikeאִישׁisha manרוֹמִיRo/MIa Romanבְּלֹא־דִיןbe/LO-dinwithout a trialוּבְלֹאu/ve/LOand withoutמִשְׁפָּט׃mish/PATjudgment

    And as they bound him with thongs, Paul said unto the centurion that stood by, Is it lawful for you to scourge a man that is a Roman, and uncondemned?

26. 26

    וַיִּשְׁמַעvay/yish/MAand heardשַׂרsarthe captain ofהַמֵּאָהham/me/Athe hundredאֶת־הַדָּבָרet-had/da/VARthe wordהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisוַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand he wentוַיַּגֵּדvay/yag/GEDand toldלְשַׂרle/SARto the captain ofהָאֶלֶףha/E/lefthe thousandלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingרְאֵהre/Eseeמַה־תַּעֲשֶׂהma-ta/a/SEwhat you doכִּיkiforהָאִישׁha/ISHthe manהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisרוֹמִיRo/MIa Romanהוּא׃huis

    When the centurion heard that, he went and told the chief captain, saying, Take heed what thou doest: for this man is a Roman.

27. 27

    וַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameשַׂר־הָאֶלֶףsar-ha/E/lefthe captain of the thousandוַיֹּאמַרvay/yo/MARand saidהַגֵּד־לִיhag/GED-litell meהֲרוֹמִיHa/ro/MIa Romanאַתָּהat/TAare youוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand he saidהֵן׃henyes

    Then the chief captain came, and said unto him, Tell me, art thou a Roman? He said, Yea.

28. 28

    וַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand answeredשַׂרsarthe captain ofהָאֶלֶףha/E/lefthe thousandאֲנִיa/NIIבְּכֶסֶףbe/KHE/sefwith moneyרַבravmuchקָנִיתִיka/NI/tiboughtלִיlifor myselfמִשְׁפַּטmish/PATthe right ofהַחֻפְשָׁהha/chuf/SHAfreedomהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidפּוֹלוֹסPo/LOSPaulוַאֲנִיva/a/NIand Iיֻלַּדְתִּיyul/LAD/tiwas bornבָהּ׃vain it

    And the chief captain answered, With a great sum obtained I this freedom. And Paul said, But I was free born.

    אָזazthenהִרְפּוּhir/PUlet goמִמֶּנּוּmim/MEN/nuof himהָאֲנָשִׁיםha/a/na/SHIMthe menאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoבָּאוּBA/uhad comeלְחׇקְרוֹle/chok/ROto examine himוְשַׂרve/SARand the captain ofהָאֶלֶףha/E/lefthe thousandיָרֵאya/REfearedמְאֹדme/ODgreatlyכִּי־אָסַרki-a/SARbecause he had boundאוֹתוֹo/TOhimוְהוּאve/HUand he wasרוֹמִי׃Ro/MIa Roman

    Then straightway they departed from him which should have examined him: and the chief captain also was afraid, after he knew that he was a Roman, and because he had bound him.

    וּמִמׇּחֳרָתu/mim/mo/cho/RATand on the next dayבִּקֵּשׁbik/KESHhe soughtלָדַעַתla/DA/atto knowבָּרוּרba/RURfor certainעַל־מֶהal-mefor whatהַיְּהוּדִיםhay/Ye/hu/DIMthe Jewsשֹׂטְנִיםsot/NIMaccuseאוֹתוֹo/TOhimוַיַּתֵּרvay/yat/TERand he loosedמוֹסְרוֹתָיוmos/ro/TAYVhis bondsוַיְצַוvay/TSAVand commandedלְהָבִיאle/ha/VIto bringאֶת־רָאשֵׁיet-ra/SHEthe chiefs ofהַכֹּהֲנִיםhak/ko/ha/NIMthe priestsוְאֶתve/ETandכׇּל־הַסַּנְהֶדְרִיןkol-Has/san/hed/RINall the Sanhedrinוַיּוֹרֶדvay/YO/redand brought downאֶת־פּוֹלוֹסet-Po/LOSPaulוַיַּעֲמִידֵהוּvay/ya/a/mi/de/HUand set himלִפְנֵיהֶם׃lif/ne/HEMbefore them

    On the morrow, because he would have known the certainty wherefore he was accused of the Jews, he loosed him from his bands, and commanded the chief priests and all their council to appear, and brought Paul down, and set him before them.
