   Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews:

   And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,

   Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ.

   וַיַּאֲמִינוּvay/ya/a/MI/nuand believedמִקְצָתָםmik/tsa/TAMsome of themוַיִּסָּפְחוּvay/yis/sa/fe/CHUand they joinedעַל־פּוֹלוֹסal-Po/LOSPaulוְסִילָאve/Si/LAand Silasוְגַם־יִרְאֵיve/GAM-yir/Eand also of those who fearedאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMtoward Godמִן־הַיְּוָנִיםmin-Hay/ye/va/NIMof the Greeksלָרֹבla/ROVin abundanceוְגַם־נָשִׁיםve/GAM-na/SHIMand also womenחֲשׁוּבוֹתcha/shu/VOTprominentלֹא־מְעָט׃lo-me/ATnot a few

   And some of them believed, and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few.

   But the Jews which believed not, moved with envy, took unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city on an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people.

   וְלֹא־מָצְאוּve/LO-ma/tse/Uand they did not findאוֹתָםo/TAMthemוַיִּסְחֲבוּvay/yis/cha/VUand they draggedאֶת־יָסוֹןet-Ya/SONJasonוַאֲנָשִׁיםva/a/na/SHIMand menמִן־הָאַחִיםmin-ha/a/CHIMbrothersלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeרָאשֵׁיra/SHEthe chiefs ofהָעִירha/IRthe cityוַיִּצְעֲקוּvay/yits/a/KUand they cried outלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdהַהֹפְכִיםha/hof/KHIMwho overturnאֶת־תֵּבֵלet-te/VELthe worldבָּאוּBA/uhave comeגַּם־הֲלוֹם׃gam-ha/LOMalso here

   And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also;

   וְיָסוֹןve/Ya/SONand Jasonאָסַףa/SAFhas taken inאֹתָםo/TAMthemאֶל־בֵּיתוֹel-be/TOinto his houseוְהֵםve/HEMand theyכֻּלָּםkul/LAMall of themאֵינָםe/NAMdo notעֹשִׂיםo/SIMdoאֶת־דָּתֵיet-da/TEthe laws ofקֵיסָרKe/SARCaesarבְּאׇמְרָםbe/om/RAMsayingיֵשׁ־מֶלֶךְyesh-ME/lekhthere is a kingאַחֵרa/CHERanotherוְהוּאve/HUand he isיֵשׁוּעַ׃Ye/SHU/aJesus

   Whom Jason hath received: and these all do contrary to the decrees of Cæsar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus.

   וַיַּחֲרִידוּvay/ya/cha/ri/DUand they alarmedאֶת־הָעָםet-ha/AMthe peopleוְאֶת־רָאשֵׁיve/ET-ra/SHEand the chiefs ofהָעִירha/IRthe cityאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoשָׁמְעוּsha/me/Uthey heardאֶת־זֹאת׃et-zotthis

   And they troubled the people and the rulers of the city, when they heard these things.

   וַיִּקְחוּvay/yik/CHUand they tookעֵרָבוֹןe/ra/VONa pledgeמִידֵיMI/defrom the hands ofיָסוֹןYa/SONJasonוּמִידֵיu/MI/deand from the hands ofהַנִּשְׁאָרִיםhan/nish/a/RIMthe restוַיְשַׁלְּחוּם׃vay/shal/le/CHUMand released them

   And when they had taken security of Jason, and of the other, they let them go.

    וְהָאַחִיםve/ha/a/CHIMand the brothersמִהֲרוּmi/ha/RUhurriedלְהוֹלִיךְle/ho/LIKHto sendאֶת־פּוֹלוֹסet-Po/LOSPaulוְאֶת־סִילָאve/ET-si/LAand SilasלַיְלָהLAY/laby nightלִבְרוֹאָהLiv/ro/Ato Bereaוַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uand they cameשָׁמָּהSHAM/mathereוַיֵּלְכוּvay/yel/KHUand they wentלְבֵית־הַכְּנֶסֶתle/VET-hak/ke/NE/setto the house of the assemblyלַיְּהוּדִים׃lay/Ye/hu/DIMof the Jews

    And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.

    וְהֵםve/HEMand theyהָיוּha/YUwereנְדִיבֵיne/di/VEmore noble ofרוּחַRU/achspiritמֵאַנְשֵׁיme/an/SHEthan the men ofתַסְלוֹנִיקִיTas/lo/ni/KIThessalonicaוַיְקַבְּלוּvay/kab/be/LUand they receivedאֶת־הַדָּבָרet-had/da/VARthe wordבְּכׇל־לֵבbe/KHOL-levwith all heartוַיַּחְקְרוּvay/yach/ke/RUand examinedבַכְּתוּבִיםvak/ke/tu/VIMthe scripturesיוֹםyomdayיוֹםyomby dayלָדַעַתla/DA/atto knowאִם־כִּדְבָרָםim-kid/va/RAMif as their wordכֵּןkensoהוּא׃huit is

    These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

    וַיַּאֲמִינוּvay/ya/a/MI/nuand believedרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyמֵהֶםme/HEMof themוְגַםve/GAMand alsoמִן־הַנָּשִׁיםmin-han/na/SHIMof womenהַיְּוָנִיּוֹתHay/ye/va/niy/YOTGreekהַיְּקָרוֹתhay/ye/ka/ROThonoredוּמִן־הָאֲנָשִׁיםu/MIN-ha/a/na/SHIMand of menלֹא־מְעָט׃lo-me/ATnot a few

    Therefore many of them believed; also of honourable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIbut it came to passכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenשָׁמְעוּsha/me/Uheardהַיְּהוּדִיםhay/Ye/hu/DIMthe Jewsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwho wereמִתַּסְלוֹנִיקִיmit/Tas/lo/ni/KIfrom Thessalonicaכִּי־גַם־בִּבְרוֹאָהki-gam-Biv/ro/Athat also in BereaפּוֹלוֹסPo/LOSPaulמַשְׁמִיעַmash/MI/awas proclaimingאֶת־דְּבַרet-de/VARthe word ofיְהוָֹהAdonaithe LORDוַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uand they cameוַיְעֹרֲרוּvay/o/ra/RUand stirred upאֶת־הָעָםet-ha/AMthe peopleגַּם־שָׁמָּה׃gam-SHAM/maalso there

    But when the Jews of Thessalonica had knowledge that the word of God was preached of Paul at Berea, they came thither also, and stirred up the people.

    וַיְמַהֲרוּvay/ma/ha/RUand hurriedהָאַחִיםha/a/CHIMthe brothersוַיְשַׁלְּחוּvay/shal/le/CHUand sentאֶת־פּוֹלוֹסet-Po/LOSPaulלָלֶכֶתla/LE/khetto goעַד־הַיָּםad-hay/YAMto the seaוְסִילָאve/Si/LAand Silasוְטִימוֹתִיּוֹסve/Ti/mo/tiy/YOSand Timotheusנִשְׁאֲרוּnish/a/RUremainedשָׁםshamthere stillעוֹד׃odstill

    And then immediately the brethren sent away Paul to go as it were to the sea: but Silas and Timotheus abode there still.

15. 15

    וְהַמְלַוִּיםve/ham/lav/VIMand those escortingאֶת־פּוֹלוֹסet-Po/LOSPaulהוֹלִיכֻהוּho/li/khu/HUled himעַד־אַתִּינַסad-At/ti/NASto Athensוְשָׁםve/SHAMand thereצִוָּהtsiv/VAhe commandedאֹתָםo/TAMthemלְהַגִּידle/hag/GIDto tellלְסִילָאle/Si/LAto Silasוְטִימוֹתִיּוֹסve/Ti/mo/tiy/YOSand Timotheusכִּיkithatיָבֹאוּya/VO/uthey should comeאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himבִּמְהֵרָהbim/he/RAquicklyוַיֵּלֵכוּ׃vay/ye/LE/khuand they went

    And they that conducted Paul brought him unto Athens: and receiving a commandment unto Silas and Timotheus for to come to him with all speed, they departed.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhileחִכָּהchik/KAwas waitingלָהֶםla/HEMfor themפּוֹלוֹסPo/LOSPaulבְּאַתִּינַסbe/At/ti/NASat Athensוַיַּרְאvay/YARand he sawוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdהָעִירha/IRthe cityמְלֵאָהme/le/Awas full ofאֱלִילִיםe/li/LIMidolsוַתִּתְחַמֵּץvat/tit/cham/METSand was provokedרוּחוֹru/CHOhis spiritבְּקִרְבּוֹ׃be/kir/BOwithin him

    Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry.

    עַל־כֵּןal-kenthereforeדִּבֶּרdib/BERhe spokeבְּבֵיתbe/VETin the house ofהַכְּנֶסֶתhak/ke/NE/setassemblyעִם־הַיְּהוּדִיםim-Hay/ye/hu/DIMwith the Jewsוְעִם־יִרְאֵיve/IM-yir/Eand with those who fearedאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodוּבַשּׁוּקu/vash/SHUKand in the marketplaceיוֹםyomdayיוֹםyomby dayעִם־הַנִּקְרִיםim-han/nik/RIMwith those who happened byאֵלָיו׃e/LAYVwith him

    Therefore disputed he in the synagogue with the Jews, and with the devout persons, and in the market daily with them that met with him.

    Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoicks, encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? other some, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached unto them Jesus, and the resurrection.

    וַיֹּאחֲזוּהוּvay/yo/cha/ZU/huand they took hold of himוַיְבִיאֻהוּvay/vi/U/huand brought himאֶל־גִּבְעַתel-giv/ATto the hill ofהַמִּשְׁפָּטham/mish/PATjudgmentהַנִּקְרָאָהhan/nik/ra/Athat is calledבְּשֵׁםbe/SHEMby the nameאַרְיוֹפָגוֹסAr/yo/fa/GOSAreopagusוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidהֲנוּכַלha/nu/KHALmay weלָדַעַתla/DA/atknowמָהmawhatהַלֶּקַחhal/LE/kachthe teachingהֶחָדָשׁhe/cha/DASHnewהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatאַתָּהat/TAyouמְלַמֵּד׃me/lam/MEDteach

    And they took him, and brought him unto Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new doctrine, whereof thou speakest, is?

    כִּי־דְבָרִיםki-de/va/RIMfor thingsזָרִיםza/RIMstrangeאַתָּהat/TAyouמֵבִיאme/VIbringבְאׇזְנֵינוּve/oz/NE/nuto our earsוַחֲפֵצִיםva/cha/fe/TSIMand desireאֲנַחְנוּa/NACH/nuweלָדַעַתla/DA/atknowמָהmawhatהֵם׃hemthey are

    For thou bringest certain strange things to our ears: we would know therefore what these things mean.

21. 21

    כִּיkiforהָאַתִּינִיִּיםha/At/ti/niy/YIMthe Atheniansכֻּלָּםkul/LAMall of themוְגַםve/GAMand alsoהַנָּכְרִיםhan/na/khe/RIMthe foreignersהַגָּרִיםhag/ga/RIMwho sojournedשָׁםshamthereלֹאlonotפָנוּfa/NUdid they turnכִּיkibutאִםimonlyלְסַפֵּרle/sap/PERto tellחֲדָשׁוֹתcha/da/SHOTnew thingsאוֹoorלִשְׁמֹעַ׃lish/MO/ato hear

    (For all the Athenians and strangers which were there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell, or to hear some new thing.)

22. 22

    וַיַּעֲמֹדvay/ya/a/MODand stoodפּוֹלוֹסPo/LOSPaulבְּתוֹךְbe/TOKHin the midst ofגִּבְעַתgiv/ATthe hill ofאַרְיוֹפָגוֹסAr/yo/fa/GOSAreopagusוַיֹּאמַרvay/yo/MARand saidאַנְשֵׁיan/SHEmen ofאַתִּינַסAt/ti/NASAthensהִנְנִיhin/NIbehold Iרֹאֶהro/Eseeבַכֹּלvak/KOLin allכִּיkithatיִרְאֵיyir/Efearers ofאֱלִילִיםe/li/LIMidolsאַתֶּםat/TEMyou areמְאֹד׃me/ODvery much

    Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars' hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious.

    כִּיkiforאֲנִיa/NIIעֹבֵרo/VERpassedוּמִתְבּוֹנֵןu/mit/bo/NENand observedאֶל־עֲבֹדוֹתel-a/vo/DOTthe objects of worship ofאֱלֹהֵיכֶםe/lo/he/KHEMyour godsוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdמִזְבֵּחַmiz/BE/achan altarאֶחָדe/CHADoneכָּתוּבka/TUVwrittenעָלָיוa/LAYVupon itלָאֵלla/ELto the Godהַנֶּעְלָםhan/ne/LAMunknownוְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowאֶת־אֲשֶׁרet-a/SHERHim whomעֲבַדְתֶּםa/vad/TEMyou have worshipedוְאֵינְכֶםve/e/ne/KHEMand you do notיֹדְעִיםyod/IMknowאֹתוֹo/TOHimאֲנִיa/NIIמַגִּידmag/GIDam proclaimingלָכֶם׃la/KHEMto you

    For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you.

    הָאֵלha/ELGodאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoעָשָׂהa/SAmadeאֶת־הָעוֹלָםet-ha/o/LAMthe worldוְכֹלve/KHOLand allאֲשֶׁר־בּוֹa/SHER-bothat is in itלֹאlonotיִשְׁכֹּןyish/KONdoes dwellבְּהֵיכָלוֹתbe/he/kha/LOTin templesמַעֲשֵׂהma/a/SEthe work ofיָדָיִםya/DA/yimhandsכִּיkiforהוּאhuHe isאֲדוֹןa/DONLord ofהַשָּׁמַיִםhash/sha/MA/yimthe heavensוְהָאָרֶץ׃ve/ha/A/retsand earth

    God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;

25. 25

    גַּם־לֹאgam-loand notיְשָׁרֲתוּהוּye/sha/ra/tu/HUis He servedיְדֵיye/DEby the hands ofבְנֵי־אָדָםve/NE-a/DAMmenכְּאִלּוּke/il/LUas ifיֶחְסַרyech/SARlacksדָּבָרda/VARanythingכִּיkiforהוּאhuHe isהַנֹּתֵןhan/No/TENthe One who givesלַכֹּלlak/KOLto allחַיִּיםchay/YIMlifeוּנְשָׁמָהu/ne/sha/MAand breathוְכׇל־דָּבָר׃ve/KHOL-da/VARand all things

    Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;

    וַיּוֹשֶׁבvay/YO/shevand He made dwellכׇּל־עַמְמֵיkol-am/MEall the peoples ofבְנֵי־אָדָםve/NE-a/DAMmenמִדָּםmid/DAMof bloodאֶחָדe/CHADoneעַל־כׇּל־פְּנֵיal-kol-pe/NEon all the face ofהָאֲדָמָהha/a/da/MAthe earthוַיַּצֵּבvay/yats/TSEVand He setזְמַנִּיםze/man/NIMtimesקְבוּעִיםke/vu/IMfixedוּגְבוּלוֹתu/ge/vu/LOTand the borders ofמוֹשָׁבָם׃mo/sha/VAMtheir habitation

    And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;

    לְמַעַןle/MA/anthatיְבַקְשׁוּye/vak/SHUthey may seekאֶת־הָאָדוֹןet-ha/a/DONthe Lordאוּלַיu/LAYperhapsיְמַשְּׁשֻׁהוּye/mash/she/shu/HUthey may grope for Himוְיִמְצָאֻהוּve/yim/tsa/u/HUand find Himאַףafevenכִּי־אֵינֶנּוּki-e/NEN/nuthough He is notרָחוֹקra/CHOKfarמִכׇּל־אֶחָדmik/KOL-e/CHADfrom each oneמִמֶּנּוּ׃mim/MEN/nuof us

    That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:

    For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

    וְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdבִּהְיוֹתֵנוּbih/yo/TE/nusince we areצֶאֱצָאֵיtse/e/tsa/Ethe offspring ofהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodלֹא־נָכוֹןlo-na/KHONit is not rightלָנוּLA/nufor usלַחֲשֹׁבla/cha/SHOVto thinkכִּיkithatהָאֱלָהוּתha/E/la/HUTthe Godheadדּוֹמָהdo/MAis likeלַזָּהָבlaz/za/HAVto goldאוֹoorלַכֶּסֶףlak/KE/sefsilverאוֹoorלָאָבֶןla/A/venstoneמַעֲשֵׂהma/a/SEthe work ofחָרָשׁcha/RASHa craftsmanוּמַחֲשֶׁבֶתu/ma/cha/SHE/vetand the design ofבְּנֵיbe/NEthe sons ofאָדָם׃a/DAMman

    Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device.

    לָכֵןla/KHENthereforeעַתָּהat/TAnowאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterעֲבֹרa/VORpassed overאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodעַל־דֹרוֹתal-do/ROTthe generations ofהַסִּכְלוּתhas/sikh/LUTfollyמְצַוֶּהme/tsav/VEcommandsהוּאhuHeאֶת־כׇּל־בְּנֵיet-kol-be/NEall the sons ofהָאָדָםha/a/DAMmenבְּכׇל־אַפְסֵי־אֶרֶץbe/KHOL-af/SE-E/retsin all the ends of the earthלָשׁוּב׃la/SHUVto turn

    And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:

31. 31

    יַעַןYA/anbecauseאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatקָבַע־יוֹםka/VA-yomHe has fixed a dayלִשְׁפֹּטlish/POTto judgeתֵּבֵלte/VELthe worldבְּצֶדֶקbe/TSE/dekin righteousnessעַל־יְדֵיal-ye/DEbyאִישׁisha manאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhomהִפְקִידוֹhif/ki/DOHe appointedוַיִּתֵּןvay/yit/TENand He gaveאוֹתota signלְהַאֲמִיןle/ha/a/MINto believeלְכֻלָּםle/khul/LAMto allבַּהֲקִימוֹba/ha/ki/MOin His raisingאֹתוֹo/TOhimמִן־הַמֵּתִים׃min-ham/me/TIMfrom the dead

    Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.

32. 32

    וְכַאֲשֶׁרve/kha/a/SHERand whenשָׁמְעוּsha/me/Uthey heardתְּחִיַּתte/chiy/YATthe resurrection ofמֵתִיםme/TIMthe deadאֵלֶּהEL/letheseהִלְעִיגוּhil/i/GUmockedלוֹlohimוְאֵלֶּהve/EL/leand theseאָמְרוּa/me/RUsaidלַדָּבָרlad/da/VARabout the matterהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisנִשְׁמָעֲךָnish/ma/a/KHAwe will hear youזְמַןze/MANa timeאַחֵר׃a/CHERanother time

    And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear thee again of this matter.

    וּבְכֵןu/ve/KHENand soיָצָאya/TSAwent outפוֹלוֹסFo/LOSPaulמִתּוֹכָם׃mit/to/KHAMfrom among them

    So Paul departed from among them.

    וּמִקְצָתָםu/mik/tsa/TAMand some of themדָּבְקוּda/ve/KUclungבוֹvoto himוַיַּאֲמִינוּvay/ya/a/MI/nuand believedוּבָהֶםu/va/HEMand among themדִּיּוֹנוּסְיוֹסDiy/yo/nus/YOSDionysiusהָאַרְיוֹפָגִיha/Ar/yo/fa/GIthe Areopagiteוְאִשָּׁהve/ish/SHAand a womanאַחַתa/CHAToneדָּמָרִיסDa/ma/RISDamarisשְׁמָהּshe/MAher nameוְעוֹדve/ODand alsoאֲחֵרִיםa/che/RIMothersעִמָּהֶם׃im/ma/HEMwith them

    Howbeit certain men clave unto him, and believed: among the which was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.
